Bill Brown won the URC Sprint Car race at the Utica-Rome Speedway, Vernon,NY.
Greg Weld won the Sprint Car race over brothers Jerry Weld, Kenny Weld and Junior Hower at the Olympic Stadium, Kansas City,MO.
Jerry Richert won the IMCA Sprint Car race at the Steele County Speedway, Owatonna,MN.
Jackie McLaughlin ... Died ... The immensely popular Northeast dirt modified stock car driver died in a racing accident at the Nazareth Half Mile Speedway, Nazareth, PA.
Steve Park ... Born ... Park began racing not in an entry-level class, but in NASCAR Modifieds on Long Island as the son of longtime National Modified Championship contender Bob Park. After establishing himself in weekly Modified racing at Riverhead Raceway, he advanced to the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series. He won several races and became a championship contender before moving on to the Busch and Cup Series.
Ralph Quarterson won the Western PA Championship Sprint Car race at the Mercer Raceway Park , Mercer, PA. Ted Wise was second followed by Buddy Cochran, Lou Blaney and George Sember.
Jerry Wall won the ARDC Midget race at the Freeport Speedway, Freeport,NY.
Bob Tattersall won the USAC Midget race at the Santa Fe Speedway, Chicago,IL.
Mitch Smith won the Super Sprint Car race over Lynn Paxton, Johnny Grum, Gus Linder and Smokey Snellbaker at the Williams Grove Speedway, Williams Grove,PA.
Al Unser won the USAC sanctioned Tony Bettenhausen 200 on the 1 Mile Paved Oval The Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wisconsin. Roger McCluskey finished second followed by Mel Kenyon, Bentley Warren and Mike Mosley.
Pete Hamilton drove a Petty Plymouth Superbird to victory in the NASCAR Grand National race at Talladega.
Parker Klingerman won the Allen Crowe 100 ARCA Late Model race at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, Springfield, IL. Ron Cox was second followed by Patrick Sheltra, A.J. Fike, Steve Arpin, Justin Lofton, Ken Schrader, Will Kimmel, Frank Kimmel and Matt Merrell.
