Johnny McDowell ... Born ... AAA driver from the mid 1930's to 1952. He drove Midgets and Indy Cars. McDowell competed in the 1949 to 1952 Indianapolis 500 races. He died in a qualifying crash at the Milwaukee Mile the week after the 1952 Indy 500.

Parnelli Jones, bringing Dan Gurney's four year event win streak to an end, drove a Bill Stroppe prepared/Wood Brothers crewed Mercury to victory in the rain delayed NASCAR Grand National "Motor Trend 500" at Riverside International Raceway.
Mel Kenyon, driving the Kenyon Brothers # 61, won the 100-lap USAC Midget race at the Memorial Coliseum, Fort Wayne, IN.

Don O'Neal won the fourth night of the 11th annual Open Wheel Modified Winternationals Championship Stock Car race at the East Bay Raceway Park, Tampa, FL. Jared Landers was second followed by Jeff Mathews, Buzzie Reutimann and Dave Hess Jr.
Josh Richards won the second night of the Super Bowl VI Late Model feature race at the Golden Isles Speedway, Brunswick, GA. Dennis Erb Jr. finished second followed by Scott Bloomquist, Brad Neat and Jimmy Owens.
Ted Christopher won the preliminary TQ Midget/600cc Micro feature at the 8th Annual Gambler's Classic in Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, NJ. Billy Pauch finished second followed by Stewart Friesen, Matt Janisch, Ryan Smith, Tim Buckwalter, Mike Tidaback, Don Zrinski, Joe Lord and Chris Allen.
Danny Lasoski won the All Star Circuit of Champions Winter National Sprint Car race at the Ocala Speedway, Ocala, FL. Tim Shaffer was second followed by Dale Blaney, Fred Rahmer, Tim Kaeding, Bob Felmlee, Jac Haudenschild, Terry McCarl, Donny Schatz and Stevie Smith.

Donny Schatz won the All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 feature at the Screven Motor Speedway, Sylvania, GA. Aaron Reutzel finished second followed by Tyler Courtney, Carson Short and Sam Hafertepe Jr.
