Len Duncan won the ARDC Midget race at the Old Bridge Stadium, Old Bridge,NJ.
Chuck Arnold won the USAC Midget race at the Santa Fe Speedway, Chicago,IL.
Ray Tilley, in the # 88 Bud Grimm Ford, won the Super Modified race over Kenny Weld, Troy Funck, Milford Wales and Ed Zirkle at the Williams Grove Speedway, Williams Grove,PA.
Richard Petty drove the Petty Enterprises Plymouth to victory in the NASCAR Grand National 'Islip 300'. The race was 300 laps on the 1/5 mile paved Islip Speedway in Islip, New York, that's right 300 laps on a 1/5 mile paved oval! . James Hylton was leading when he spun on lap 183 and Bobby Allison was on his way to victory when he collided with Wendell Scott with 20 laps to go and had to pit for repairs. Petty wound up winning by 3 laps over Hylton's Hartje Dodge.

Bob Evans won the CRA Sprint Car race at the Reno Fairgrounds, Reno,NV. Terry Nish was second followed by Lee Robison, Bobby Hogle and Ned Spath.
Mitch Smith won the Super Sprint Car race at the Port Royal Speedway, Port Royal,PA.
Jim Shampine won the Super Modified race over Jack Murphy, Todd Gibson and Bentley Warren at the Oswego Speedway, Oswego,NY.
Rick Schmelyun won the Super Sprint Car race at the Lincoln Speedway, Hanover,PA.
Fonty Flock ... Died ... NASCAR great and one of the central figures in the formative days of NASCAR. He was the brother of NASCAR pioneers Tim Flock and Bob Flock, and the second female NASCAR driver Ethel Mobley. The four raced at the July 10, 1949 race at the Daytona Beach Road Course, which was the first event to feature a brother and a sister, and the only NASCAR event to feature four siblings. Ethel beat Fonty and Bob by finishing in eleventh.

Gordon Johncock and Bobby Unser shared wins in the Norton Twin 125's , CART Indy Car race at the 2 Mile Paved Oval Michigan International Speedway, Brooklyn, Michigan.
Bubby Jones won the USAC Sprint Car race at the New Bremen Speedway , New Bremen, OH.
Doug Wolfgang, in the Howells # 4, won the World of Outlaws Sprint Car race over Bobby Allen, Steve Kinser, Tim Green and Jac Haudenschild at the Mansfield Motorsports Speedway, Mansfield,OH.
Bentley Warren won the ISMA Super Modified race over Bobby Stelter, Doug Heveron, Jamie Moore and Denny Wheeler at the Stafford Motor Speedway, Stafford Springs,CT.
Brad Doty, in the Bowers #28d, won the All Star Sprint Car race over Smokey Snellbaker, Keith Kauffman, Lee Osborne and Richard Lupo at the Sharon Speedway, Hartford,OH.
