Bubby Jones ... Born ... A former driver in the USAC Sprint Car series, with 22 victories, and a member of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, inducted in 1998. He also raced in the USAC Championship Car series, in the 1977-1978 seasons, with 2 career starts, including the 1977 Indianapolis 500. He failed in qualifying attempts at Indy in 1978 and 1981.

Johnny Thomson helps his car owner Peter Schmidt get over the loss of his star driver Manuel Ayulo at the Speedway by scoring his first AAA Champ Car win in the Rex Mays 100 Mile Race at the "Milwaukee Mile in "West Allis, WI, driving the sister car to Jimmy Bryan's championship winning Kuzma/Offenhauser from the Dean stable, which can only finish fourth on this occasion. Indy winner Bob Sweikert comes second in John Zink's new Watson/Offenhauser dirt car, and third goes to the only roadster in the field, the Dunn Kurtis-Kraft/Offenhauser KK500B of Pat Flaherty. Fifth and sixth are Jimmy Davies (Clancy, '49 Ewing/Offenhauser) and Andy Linden (Fullerton, Kurtis-Kraft/Offenhauser KK4000).

Rodger Ward won the 100 Mile Rex Mays Classic USAC Championship Car race at the 1 Mile Paved Oval The Milwaukee Mile, West Allis, Wisconsin. A.J. Foyt finished second followed by Len Sutton, Tony Bettenhausen and Eddie Sachs.

Mel Hansen ... Died ... AAA driver . In 21 starts between 1939 and 1949, he won twice (1948 Atlanta in Ray Carter's '39 Wetteroth/Offenhauser, the 1941 Speedway winner, and 1949 Springfield in the '49 Bowes Lesovsky/Offenhauser), was second once (1949 Trenton) and fourth once (1947 Milwaukee). His best championship position was 9th in 1940. He was also a noted midget driver, and won the important Turkey Night Grand Prix in 1939 and the URA (blue circuit) Midget Championship in 1945. His career ended in 1949 after a bad midget crash in Detroit.
Bob Tattersall won the 50 lap USAC Midget race at the Kentucky State Fairgrounds, Louisville, KY.

A.J. Foyt crashes in flames during practice for the Rex Mays 100 Mile USAC Race at Milwaukee, ending his supreme reign of the USAC championship trail of recent years. Heir apparent Mario Andretti seizes the opportunity to snatch the win from Roger McCluskey and Joe Leonard , with the supercharged Gerhardt/Drake-Offenhauser of Art Pollard fourth and Chuck Hulse and Al Unser fifth and sixth, respectively.

Gary Bettenhausen won the 40 lap USAC Sprint Car race at the I-70 Speedway (1/2p), Odessa, MO. Todd Gibson finished second followed by Rollie Beale, Larry Dickson and Jerry Poland.

Truck Equipment Sportsman feature over Matt Clay, Cody Manmiller, Kenny Bock and Kenny Gilmore.
Andrew Krause won the 61st running of the 125 lap Garden State Classic at Wall Stadium Speedway., Wall Township, NJ. Steven Reed was second followed by Eddie McCarthy, Shaun Carrig and Tommy Mattino Jr., Johnny Carpenter won the 25-lap Factory Stock feature over AJ Jadacki, Scott Riggleman, Bryan O'Shea and Elliot Wohl.

Rick Laubach won the30-lap Vahlco Wheels Modified Stock Car feature at the New Egypt Speedway, New Egypt, NJ. Billy Pauch Jr was second followed by Mike Gular, Mike Butler and Bryan Kuhl. The Crate Modified feature was won by Justin Grosso followed by Ryan Simmons, Johnny Bangs, Nick Van Wickle and Pat Wall. The Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car Feature was won by Mick D'Agostino followed by Heidi Hedin, Rich Mellor, Larry Drake and Al Cheney.
Ryan Godown won the30-lap Foley Cat Modified Stock Car feature at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park, Swedesboro, NJ. Alex Yankowski, finished second followed by Ryan Watt, Neal Williams. and Dominick Buffalino. The 25-lap South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Sportsman feature was won by Ryan Godown Jr. followed by Steve Kemery, Matt Ellery, Sam Martz, Jr.and Howie Finch. The Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series feature was won by Dave Grube followed by Buddy Schweibinz, Kevin Nagy, Craig Pellegrini and Christian Rumsey.
Aaron Bollinger won the 410 Sprint Car feature at the Lincoln Speedway, Abbottstown, PA. Cory Haas finished second followed by Matt Campbell, Freddie Rahmer and Brandon Rahmer. In the USAC East Coast 360 Sprint feature it was Alex Bright over Steven Drevicki, Kenny Miller III, Christian Bruno and Damon Paul. The ARDC Midget race was won by Steve Buckwalter Tommy Kunsman was second followed by Jimmy Glenn, Kevin Woody and Michael Markey.
Jason Shultz won the 25-lap United Racing Club Kramer Cup for 360 sprint cars feature at the Selinsgrove Speedway, Selinsgrove, PA. Mark Smith finished second followed by Davie Franek, Josh Weller and Dallas Schott. The PASS/IMCA 305 Sprint Car feature was won by Nick Sweigart followed by Ken Duke, Austin Reed, Domenic Melair, Garrett Bard and Doug Dodson.
Jared Esh won the 410 Sprint Car feature at the Port Royal Speedway, Port Royal, PA. Logan Wagner was second followed by Jeff Halligan, Mike Wagner and Dylan Cisney.
