1932
Louie Unser... Born ... He was the twin brother of Jerry Unser, who in 1958 became the first of the famed racing family to qualify for the Indy 500. Louie served as chief mechanic for Jerry in that race and handled the same duties for younger brother Al Unser's 500 debut in 1965.
Jerry Unser... Born ... He was the 1957 USAC Stock Car champion. Jerry was the first of the Unser family to compete at Indianapolis. He died in a practice crash before the 1959 Indianapolis 500, leaving behind a widow, Jeanne Unser, and two sons, Jerry and Johnny Unser. His brothers Al and Bobby and his nephew Al Jr. have won the "500". His son Johnny and nephew Robby have also competed in the race.

Parnelli Jones won the CRA Sprint Car race at the New Ascot Stadium in Los Angeles, CA. ( Click here for the race report. )

Elmer Musgrave won the 100-lap USAC Late Model Stock Car race at the New Ascot Stadium in Los Angeles, CA. Roger Ward was second followed by Les Snow, Harold Smith, Jim Rathmann and Bill Cheesbourg.

Bobby Abel won the Super Modified race at the Lincoln Speedway, Hanover,PA.

1969
Al Unser won the Bobby Ball 200 USAC Championship Race on the 1 Mile Paved Oval Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale, Arizona. Lloyd Ruby finished second followed by Wally Dallenbach, Johnny Rutherford and Joe Leonard.
Dick Fries won the CRA Sprint Car race over Jimmy Oskie, Colby Scroggin, Curt Waters and Jan Opperman at the Ascot Park Speedway, Gardena,CA.

1980
Bob Mathouser ... Died ... Drove in the USAC Championship Car series, racing in the 1961-1966 seasons, with 30 career starts, including the 1964 Indianapolis 500. He finished in the top ten 4 times, with his best finish in 6th position in 1964 at Langhorne.
Benny Parsons won the NASCAR Winston Cup L.A. Times 500 over Neil Bonnett at the Ontario Motor Speedway, Ontario, CA.
Bubby Jones won the CRA Sprint Car race over Ron Shuman, Mike Sweeney, Bob East and Rich Vogler at the Ascot Park Speedway, Gardena,CA.

Taylor Andrews won the winged Sprint Car race over Roland Johnson, Rick Ferkel, Wayne Hammond and Jack Hewitt at the Florida State Fairgrounds, Tampa,FL.
Mark Passerrelli and Jack Yeley each won the Midget feature races at the Manzanita Speedway, Phoenix,AZ.

Mike Sweeney won the CRA Sprint Car race at the Ascot Park Speedway, Gardena,CA.
Rick Ungar won the winged Sprint Car race at the Battleground Speedway, Houston,TX.

1991
Jimmy Sills won the Dave Sanborn Classic CRA Sprint Car race at the Kings Speedway , Hanford, CA. Brent Keading finished second followed by Verne Sweeney, Brad Noffsinger and Rip Williams.
Mike Peters won the NCRA winged Sprint Car race over Johnny Herrera, Gary Wright, Doug Wolfgang and Jerry Stone at the Devil's Bowl Speedway ,Dallas, TX.

1992
Bill Elliott won the NASCAR Winston Cup Hooters 500 over Alan Kulwicki at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Hampton, GA. Six drivers entered the last race of the season with a chance of winning the championship. Alan Kulwicki clinched his first and only Winston Cup title by finishing second. This race also signified the end of one legend and the start of another; this was Richard Petty's last race as a driver and Jeff Gordon made his first NASCAR Winston Cup start.
Sammy Swindell won the Midget race at the Manzanita Speedway (1/3d), Phoenix,AZ. Ron Shuman was second followed by Mark Passerrelli, Eric Wilkins and Gary Howard.
Jac Haudenschild won the World of Outlaws Sprint Car race at the Manzanita Speedway (1/2d), Phoenix,AZ. Sammy Swindell was second followed by Tim Green, Stevie Smith and Bobby Davis Jr.

John Heydenreich won the Midget race over Dean Franklin at the Petro-Plex Raceway, Odessa,TX.
