Jimmy Reece... Born ... Reece was Midget, Sprint driver and a 6 time veteran of the Indianapolis 500, with Top Ten finishes in 1952, 1956 and 1958. He died in a racing accident during a 1958 champ car race at Trenton International Speedway.

Fireball Roberts won the inaugural NASCAR race on the 3 mile Augusta International Raceway Road Course in Georgia, driving a Ford.
Gary Bettenhausen won the Phoenix 200 USAC Championship Race on the 1 Mile Paved Oval Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale, Arizona. Lloyd Ruby finished second followed by George Snider, Billy Vukovich Jr and Sammy Sessions.
Mel Kenyon won the USAC Midget race over Sammy Sessions and Billy Engelhart at the Adobe Bowl, Tucson, AZ.
Kenny Weld, in the Bob Weikert # 29, won the Super Sprint Car race over Kramer Williamson, Bobby Allen, Lynn Paxton and Paul Pitzer at the Reading Fairgrounds, Reading,PA.
Don Hamilton won the CRA Sprint Car race over Jimmy Oskie, Clark Templeman, Bob East and Billy Allen at the Speedway 605, Irwindale,CA.
Bubby Jones won the CRA Sprint Car race at the Ascot Park Speedway , Gardena,CA. Eddie Wirth was second followed by John Redican, Jeff Heywood and Brent Kaeding.
Bobby Allen won the All Star Sprint Car race at the Dixie Speedway , Woodstock,GA. Sammy Swindell was second followed by Dave Blaney, Danny Lasoski and Rickey Hood.
Ron Shuman won the Don Peabody Classic CRA Sprint Car race over Cary Faas, Mike Kirby, Jerry Meyer and Rip Williams at the Ascot Park Speedway , Gardena,CA.
Terry Farrar won the USAC Midget race over Dave Strickland Jr, Sleepy Tripp, Ricky Gray and P.J. Jones at the Bakersfield Speedway, Bakersfield, CA.
Bobby Allen won the All Star Sprint Car race at the Dixie Speedway , Woodstock,GA. Steve Kinser was second followed by Joe Gaerte, Kenny Jacobs and Jeff Swindell.
Fred Rahmer won the Super Sprint Car race at the Lincoln Speedway,New Oxford, PA. Cris Eash was second followed by Steve Stambaugh, Meme DeSantis and Dave Hahn.
