Tommy Hinnershitz won the AAA Eastern Sprint Car race at the Shelby Fairgrounds, Shelby, NC.

Jimmy Bryan won the Bobby Ball Memorial AAA Championship Race on the 1 Mile Dirt Oval Arizona State Fairgrounds in Phoenix, Arizona. Manny Ayulo finished second followed by Bob Sweikert, Andy Linden and Sam Hanks.

Bobby Unser won the USAC Sprint Car race at the Ascot Park Speedway, Gardena,CA.

Art Arfons returned to the Bonneville Salt Flats in a revamped Green Monster, and shattered Breedlove's record from the previous year, when he raced to 576.553 mph across the one-mile course.
Bob Myers won the Super Modified race at the Lincoln Speedway, Hanover,PA.
George Benson won the 50-lap USAC Midget race at the Orange Show Stadium, San Bernadino,CA.

Cecil Sommers won the 40-lap NASCAR Late Model Sportsman race at the Jacksonville Speedway, Jacksonville, FL. Eddie MacDonald finished second followed by Frank Brantley, David Ezell and Eldon Yarbrough.
Jimmy Winks won the 151-lap season finale for Modified Sportsman over Lou Lazzaro, George Eli and Ron Narducci at the Maple Grove Speedway, Waterloo, NY.

Al Unser won the USAC sanctioned Bobby Ball 150 on the 1 Mile Paved Oval Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale, Arizona. Gordon Johncock was second followed by Mario Andretti, Wally Dallenbach and Roger McCluskey.
Dave Marcis won the NASCAR Winston Cup Dixie 500 over David Pearson at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Hampton, GA.
Steve Smith won the Super Sprint Car race at the Reading Fairgrounds, Reading,PA. Kramer Williamson was second followed by Smokey Snellbaker, Bobby Allen and Bobby Weaver.
Rich Vogler won the Supermodified race at the Winchester Speedway, Winchester,IN. Jeff Bloom was second followed by Sammy Sessions, Greg Leffler and Dick St.John.
