Sammy Swindell... Born ... A three time World of Outlaws champion, winning the title in 1981, 1982, and 1997, with hundreds of A-main victories to his credit. He also competed in the CART series in 1985 and 1986 and failed to qualify for the 1987 Indianapolis 500 in a March-Pontiac. Swindell also competed in a full season of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 1995, finishing 12th in points with 1 pole and 5 top-tens in the series' inaugural season. He also counts 10 Busch Series and 2 Winston Cup starts among his NASCAR accomplishments.

Jerry Blundy won the 100 lap Super Sprint Car race on the 1 Mile Dirt Oval California State Fairgrounds in Sacramento, California. George Farmer was second followed by Jack Clegg, Billy Wilkerson and Bob Cleberg.
Gary Bettenhausen and Bill Puterbaugh each won features in the Twin 50s USAC Sprint Car races at the 1 mile dirt New York State Fairgrounds , Syracuse,NY.
Bob Wente won the USAC Midget race over Roger Branson, Bob Tattersall, Mel Kenyon and Billy Renshaw at the State Fair Speedway (1/4d), Oklahoma City,OK.
Gene Varner won the National Open Super Sprint race at the Williams Grove Speedway, Williams Grove,PA. Mike Lloyd was second followed by Bobbie Adamson, Smokey Snellbaker and Mitch Smith.
Jimmy Caruthers... Died ... USAC midget, sprint and Indy car driver from California. He won the 1975 USAC Silver Crown Series championship while suffering from cancer. He died of cancer before claiming his championship trophy.
Jim Linder won the Sprint Car race over Fred Linder at the Eldora Speedway, Rossburg,OH.
Robert Smith won the IMCA Sprint Car race at the Louisiana State Fairgrounds, Shreveport,LA.
Rip Williams won the USAC Sprint Car race at the Ascot Park Speedway, Gardena,CA. Mike Sweeney was second followed by Bubby Jones, Jimmy Oskie and Brent Keading.
Dean Thompson won the Pacific Coast Open Sprint Car race at the Ascot Park Speedway , Gardena,CA. Jeff Heywood was second followed by Bubby Jones, Dave Blaney and Rip Williams.
Brad Doty won the Sprint Car race over Tim Green, Terry Gray, Gary Wright and Eddie Gallagher at the I-30 Speedway , Little Rock,AR.
