1949
Fred Agabashian won the AAA sanctioned Golden State 100 on the 1 Mile Dirt Oval California State Fairgrounds in Sacramento, California. Rex Mays was second followed by Troy Ruttman, Myron Fohr and Johnnie Parsons.
Tommy Hinnershitz won the AAA Eastern Sprint Car race at the Tioga Motorsports Park, Owego, NY.

1951
Tony Bettenhausen Jr. ... Born ... Tony Lee Bettenhausen Jr. was one of three racing brothers and a son of two-time U.S. Auto Club national champion Melvin "Tony" Bettenhausen, who ran at the Indianapolis 500 from 1946-60 and was killed in practice in 1961. Tony Jr. drove Indy cars from 1979-93 and also competed in 33 Nextel Cup Series series events in his career, most coming in 1974 when he scored a career best 7th place effort at Richmond International Raceway. He raced in 11 Indy 500 with his best finish of 7th in 1981.

1954
Wilbur Shaw... Died ... AAA driver from the 1920's, 30's and 40's. He was a three-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 (1937, 1939, and 1940), and three times a runner up. He later served as president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Best known as the man who, with Tony Hulman, saved the Indianapolis Motor Speedway from becoming an industrial park; Inducted in 1991 into the Indianapolis Motor speedway Hall of Fame. Sadly, at the height of his power in the racing world, Shaw was killed in an airplane crash near Decatur, Indiana on October 30, 1954, one day before his fifty-second birthday. The pilot, Ray Grimes, and artist Ernest Roose were also killed.

Ned Jarrett and Junior Johnson retire from racing, both NASCAR Grand National champions each had 50 NASCAR Grand National wins.
Johnny Crawford won the Super Modified race at the Lincoln Speedway, Hanover,PA.

Billy Vukovich won the USAC Midget race at the Corona Raceway, Corona,CA. Tommy Astone was second followed by Gary Bettenhausen, Hank Butcher and Terry Caves.

Jimmy Oskie won the CRA Sprint Car race at the Ascot Park Speedway, Gardena,CA. Bob East was second followed by Ron Shuman, Billy Allen and David Fair.

Larry Rice won the Supermodified race at the Lakewood Speedway (1.0d), Atlanta,GA. Joe Saldana was second followed by Mack McClellan, Tom Corbin and Mark Alderson.
Jim Shampine won the Supermodified race as part of the Thompson Int. Speedway - World Series, Thompson,CT. Bentley Warren was second followed by Ollie Silva, Warren Coniam and Jimmy Winks.
Armond Holley won the NEMA Midget race as part of the Thompson Int. Speedway - World Series, Thompson,CT. Lennie Boyd was second followed by Gary Allbritain, Doug Craig and Drew Fornoro.

Finishing second to Sweet in the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by K&N Filters National Sprint Car race was Sam Hafertepe Jr. followed by Greg Wilson, Jason Sides and Brandon Wimmer.
Kyle Busch won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Mountain Dew 250 over Aric Almirola, Johnny Sauter, Matt Crafton and Ricky Carmichael at the Talladega Superspeedway, Talladega, AL.
Aaron Pierce won the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series (HOSS) feature over Tim Cox at the Anderson Speedway, Anderson, IN.
Bruce Buckwalter Jr won the ARDC Midget race at the Susquehanna Speedway Park, Newberrytown, PA. Steve Buckwalter was second followed by Billy Pauch Jr, Eric Heydenreich and Brett Arndt.
