Charlie Musselman , driving the Traylor #5, won the AAA Eastern Sprint Car race at the Flemington Speedway in Flemington, NJ.

Jud Larson won the 50 lap USAC Sprint Car race at the New Bremen Speedway, New Bremen,OH. Red Riegel was second followed by Johnny Rutherford, Don Branson and Chuck Arnold.

Leigh Earnshaw won the ARDC Midget race at the Freeport Speedway, Freeport,NY.
Elmer Ruby won the Tuscarora 50 Super Sprint Car race over Steve Ungar, Lynn Geisler, Dick Swarmer and Tom Spriggle at the Port Royal Speedway , Port Royal, PA.
Jochen Rindt... Died ... Rindt was a German-Austrian racing driver. He is the only driver to posthumously win the Formula One World Drivers' Championship (in 1970), after being killed in practice for the Italian Grand Prix. Away from Formula One Rindt was highly successful in other single-seat formulae, as well as sports car racing. In 1965 he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, driving a Ferrari 250LM in partnership with American Masten Gregory.

Len Duncan won the ARDC Midget race at the Flemington Fair Speedway, Flemington,NJ. Earl Halaquist was second followed by Tommy McAndrew, Bryant Ingalls and Pancho Carter.
Joe Leonard won the USAC California 500 Indy Car race on the 2.5 Mile Paved Oval at the Ontario Motor Speedway, Ontario, California. Art Pollard was second followed by Gary Bettenhausen, Lloyd Ruby and Steve Krisiloff.
Bobby Unser won the USAC California 500 Indy Car race on the 2.5 Mile Paved Oval at the Ontario Motor Speedway, Ontario, California. Johnny Rutherford was second followed by Gordon Johncock, Wally Dallenbach and Tom Bigelow.
Tom Sneva won the CART sanctioned AB Dick Tony Bettenhausen 200 on the 1 Mile Paved Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wisconsin. Rick Mears finished second followed by Bobby Unser, Johnny Rutherford and Al Unser.
