Bob Wente won the 50 lap USAC Midget race at the Chicago Ampitheater, Chicago, IL.

Jimmy Clark wins the Levin International race in the Tasman Series in a Lotus 33. He also set fastest lap and was hounded for much of the race by Jackie Stewart in a BRM P261. Stewart finished a scant 2.5 seconds behind at the finish, with Richard Attwood taking the third spot.

Billy Vukovich won the 30 lap USAC Sprint Car race at the Riverglade Speedway. Irwindale, CA.

Darrell Waltrip beat the rain to win the season opening Western 500 NASCAR Grand National race at Riverside International Raceway. Waltrip led the final 14 laps in his DiGard Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo, taking the checkered flag 3 seconds ahead of David Pearson in the Wood Brothers Mercury. Thunder clapped and rain began to fall in the closing laps. Cale Yarborough, Western Grand National star Bill Schmitt and polesitter Donnie Allison rounded out the top five.
Les Scott won the 100 lap USAC Midget race at the Cincinnati Gardens. Cincinnati , OH.

Dave Darland was second followed by Kevin Swindell, Brad Loyet, Daryn Pittman, Chris Windom, Cory Kruseman, Dakoda Armstrong, Danny Stratton and Johnny Heydenreich.

Kyle Larson won the 30-lap second night feature of the 34th Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals at the Tulsa Expo Raceway, Tulsa, OK. Jonathan Beason finished second followed by Michael Faccinto, Dillon Welch, Larry Wight, TJ Smith, Michael Moles , Derek Welch, Kaidon Brown and Alex Bowman.

Logan Seavey held off the charge of Tanner Thorson to win the 37th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire at the Tulsa Expo Raceway, Tulsa, OK. Tanner Thorson finished second followed by Cannon McIntosh, Shane Golobic, Emerson Axsom, Kyle Jones, Mitchel Moles, Trey Marcham, Tim Buckwalter and Justin Grant.
