Chet Miller ... Born ... AAA driver 1928 to 1953. Ran the Indy 500 sixteen times with a best finish of 3rd in 1938. He was killed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during practice for the 1953 Indianapolis 500.

Jimmy Bryan won the AAA Sprint Car race at the Terre Haute Action Track, Terre Haute, IN.

Gene Hartley won the USAC Midget race at the Berlin Raceway, Grand Rapids,MI.

Wayne Doerstler won the ARDC Midget race at the Allentown Fairgrounds, Allentown,PA.
Bobby Grim won the IMCA Sprint Car race at the Red River Valley Speedway, Fargo,ND.

Van Johnson... Died ... USAC driver. First name Dale, he was killed in a race at Williams Grove Speedway just 5 weeks after winning his first champ car race. Rodger Ward won the race followed by Eddie Sachs, Jim Packard, Johnny Thomson and A.J. Foyt.
Tony Bettenhausen drove to victory in the 150 mile USAC/ ARCA Stock Car race on the 1 Mile paved Oval Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wisconsin. Nelson Stacy was second followed by Darel Dieringer, Don White and Red Duvall.

A.J. Foyt, in his Sheraton-Thompson Watson Offy, won the Trenton 150 USAC Indy Car race on the 1 mile paved oval at the Trenton International Speedway, Trenton, NJ. Lloyd Ruby was second followed by Don Branson , Bob Harkey and Norm Hall.
Billy Wade, in the Bud Moore Mercury Marauder , won the NASCAR Grand National race on the Watkins Glen International Road Course in Watkins Glen, NY. LeeRoy Yarbrough finished second followed by Walt Hansgen, Buck Baker and Bob Welborn.
Greg Weld won the Sprint Car race over Junior Hower, Al Manning and RayLee Goodwin at the Olympic Stadium,Kansas City, MO
Steve Ungar won the Sprint Car race over Ralph Quarterson and Lou Blaney at the Sharon Speedway,Hartford, OH.
