A.J. Foyt won the 100 Mile Rex Mays Classic USAC Indy Car race on the 1 mile paved oval at the Milwaukee Mile, West Allis, WI. Parnelli Jones was second followed by Jim Hurtubise, Rodger Ward and Roger McCluskey.
Fred Lorenzen was declared the winner of the NASCAR Grand National 'Atlanta 500' after 328.5 miles. Heavy rain stopped the race but it took NASCAR officials five hours to declare the winner (a situation not helped by the fact that the scoreboard operator ran for cover when the deluge hit). It was the first superspeedway win for the Elmhurst, Illinois driver, who was driving a Holman-Moody Ford.

Bobby Allison won the 100 mile NASCAR Grand National race on the newly paved .625 mile Birmingham International Speedway in Birmingham, Alabama. Allison crossed the line just in front of Paschal, who was flagged the winner. Shortly after the checkered fell, Allison's car owner, Cotton Owens protested the finish, leading to the scoring check. Paschal, who won his 12th career pole and led much of the race in the Friedkin Enterprises Plymouth, was placed 2nd. It was the first win for Owens since David Pearson left in April and came in Allison's 6th start in the car.

Buck Buckley won the URC Super Sprint Car race at the Flemington Fair Speedway, Flemington,NJ. Leroy Felty finished second followed by Wayne Woodward, Harry Benjamin and Bob Pickell.
Johnny Coy won the ARDC Midget race over Jerry Stover and Hank Rogers Jr at the Islip Speedway, Islip,NY.

Richaed Petty won the Alamo 500 Winston Cup race at the Texas World Speedway in College Station, TX. Darrell Waltrip finished second followed by Joe Frasson, Cale Yarborough, Cecil Gordon, Buddy Baker, Benny Parsons, Ramo Stott, David Sisco and J.D. McDuffie.
Bobby Unser won the Rex Mays Classic 150 USAC Championship Car race at the Milwaukee State Fair, Milwaukee, WI. Roger McCluskey was second followed by Gary Bettenhausen, Wally Dallenbach, Johnny Rutherford, Lee Kunzman, Joe Leonard, Mario Andretti, Al Unser and Mike Hiss.
Dave Camfirld won the super sprint car feature over Dean Shirley, Ollie Runion, Ron Milton and John Myers at the Springfield Speedway, Springfield, IL.
Kenny Weld won the super sprint car feature at the Hagerstown Speedway, Hagerstown, MD. Randy Ruth was second followed by Dub May, Elmer Ruby, Smokey Snellbaker, Paul Pitzer, Jan Opperman, Kramer Williamson, Johnny Grum and Lynn Paxton.
Dick Gains won the super sprint car feature at the Kokomo Speedway, Kokomo, IN. Mike Johnson finished second followed by Bobby Kinser, Louie Mann, Ray Kenens, Red Bledsoe, Allen Barr and Larry Gorman.
Jerry Richert won the Midwest Sprint Ass'n sprint car feature at the North Star Speedway, Minneapolis, MN.
Jerry Cook won the 30-lap Modified feature at the Utica-Rome Speedway , Vernon, NY. Richie Evans was second followed by Sonny Seamon, Maynard Forrette and Eddie Pieniazek.
Bob Seelman won the 30-lap Supermodified feature over Nick Rowe and Pete Foltz at the Sandusky International Speedway, Sandusky, OH.

Jimmy Blewett won the 40-lap Modified feature over Steven Reed, Andrew Krause, Shannon Mongeau and Jason Treat at the Wall Stadium Speedway, Wall, NJ. The 25 lap Sportsman feature was taken by Jarrett Digiantomasso over Kevin Davison, Eric Lane, Jonathan Laureigh and Matt Langbein. The 25-lap Late Model feature was won by Cole Ormsbee, while the 3 25-lap Factory Stock features went to Bob Haberstick, Scott Riggleman and Scott Riggleman,
Josh Hohenforst was awarded the 30-lap Dirtcar Modified feature when Stewart Friesen came up light at the scales at the Fonda Speedway, Fonda, NY. Danny Varin was second followed by Mike Maresca, Ronnie Johnson and Jeremy Wilder. Wilder was given 5th place when Tim Fuller also came up light at the scales.
Frank Cozze won the 30-lap Modified race at the Grandview Speedway, Bechtelsville, PA. Ray Swinehart finished second followed by Craig VonDohren, Mike Gular and Jeff Strunk.
Brad Keselowski won the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at the Pocono Raceway, Long Pond, PA. Justin Allgaier was second followed by Kyle Larson, Elliott Sadler and Daniel Suarez.
Rico Abreu won the USAC Midget National Championship race as part of Indiana Midget Week at the Lawrenceburg Speedway, Lawrenceburg, IN. Tanner Thorson was second followed by Holly Shelton, Shane Golobic and Tyler Courtney.
Greg Hodnett won the 410 Sprint Car feature at the Port Royal Speedway, Port Royal, PA. Dylan Cisney was second followed by Aaron Ott, Lucas Wolfe and Blane Heimbach. The 305 Sprint Car feature was won by Drew Ritchey followed by Cale Reigle, Scott Ellerman, Tyler Reeser and Roger Irvine.
Danny Dietrich won the 410 Sprint Car feature at the Lincoln Speedway, Abbottstown, PA. Alan Krimes was second followed by Brian Montieth, Cory Haas and Matt Campbell. The 358 Sprint Car feature was won by Jordon Givier followed by Doug Hammaker, Ashley Cappetta, Brie Hershey and Troy Wagaman.
Andrew Bohn won the 30-lap 358 Modified Stock Car feature over PJ Oliver, Danny Bouc, Ryan Godown and Billy Pauch Jr. The 20-lap Sportsman feature was won by TJ Lilly followed by JR Fulper, Mike Lyons, Billy Osmun III and Bob Lineman Jr. The 20-lap Northeast Wingless Sprint Car feature was won by Ryan Godown followed by Lee Nardelli, Rich Mellor, Heidi Hedin, Jermain Godshall, Larry McVay, Duane Nixon, Larry Drake and Brian Spencer.
Justin Peck won the Artic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car race at the Macon Speedway, Macon, IL. Paul Nienhiser was second followed by Chad Kemenah, Carson Macedo and Tony Stewart.
Jamie Mills won the Modified Stock Car feature, Mark Pettyjohn won the Super Late Model feature and Tim Tanner won the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Car feature at the Delaware International Speedway,Delmar, DE. ( Click here for the race results. )
