Gene Force ... Born ... Gene Force raced migets and sprint cars in the 1950's and early 60's. He drove in the AAA and USAC Championship Car series, racing in the 1951-1952, 1954, 1956, and 1958-1960 seasons with 33 starts, including the 1951 and 1960 Indianapolis 500 races. He finished in the top ten 16 times, with his best career finish in 3rd place occurring on 3 occasions.
Keith Andrews ... Born ... He started racing on oval tracks in 1946 driving Roadsters, progressing to midgets in 1947 and winning three feature races at Lakeside Speedway. He won the Colorado Midget Championship three years running from 1952 to 1954. In 1955 he moved up to big cars and entered in the Indianapolis 500 in 1955 and 1956. Finishing 20th in 1955, in 1956 he was involved in an accident early on, but got restarted to finished 26th. He was killed after crashing his car during testing for the 1957 Indianapolis 500.
Ray Keech ... Died ... He was a board and brick track racer in the 1920s. He is best remembered for winning the 1929 Indianapolis 500, and for setting a land speed record in the Triplex Spirit of Elkdom. This monster featured three 27-litre Liberty aero-engines! He died in a racing accident at the Altoona 200-Mile Race in 1929.
Fireball Roberts scored his 6th NASCAR Grand National win of the season, driving his own Ford to victory in the 100 mile race on the 1/2 mile dirt Newport Speedway in Newport, Tennessee. Marvin Panch finished 2nd in his own Ford with Buck Baker 3rd in his own Chevy. The first Southern GN race in wake of the June 6th manufacturers pullout (a result of a car going into the crowd and injuring five spectators at Martinsville on May 19) saw Roberts' first win as a car owner. Most of the former factory drivers were sold their cars by the factories. NASCAR raised first place money to $1000 to help the newly independent drivers. Paul Goldsmith was the only former factory backed driver not on hand.

Eddie Sachs won the 100 mile USAC Championship race on the 1 Mile Dirt Oval Langhorne Speedway, Langhorne, PA. A.J. Foyt was second followed by Jud Larson, Don Branson and Tony Bettenhausen.
Hank Henry won the CRA Sprint Car race at the Manzanita Speedway, Phoenix, AZ
Bobby Unser won the 150 mile USAC Championship race on the 1 Mile Paved Oval Langhorne Speedway, Langhorne, PA. Art Pollard was second followed by Wally Dallenbach, Billy Vukovich Jr and Mario Andretti.
Rollie Beale won the USAC Sprint Car race at the Berlin Raceway, Grand Rapids,MI. Gary Bettenhausen was second followed by Bruce Walkup, Larry Cannon and Johnny Parsons.
Pancho Carter won the USAC Sprint Car race at the Toledo Speedway, Toledo,OH. Bruce Walkup was second followed by George Snider, Gary Ponzini and Sammy Sessions.
Bob East won the CRA Sprint Car race at the Ascot Park Speedway, Gardena,CA.
Jim Fearick won the ARDC Midget race at the Freeport Speedway, Freeport,NY. Doug Craig was second followed by Steve Howard, Billy Hughes and Jim Hettinger.
Buck Buckley won the URC Sprint Car race at the Orange County Fair Speedway, Middletown, NY.
David Pearson won the NASCAR Winston Cup Motor State 400 over Richard Petty at the Michigan International Speedway, Brooklyn, MI
Leigh Earnshaw won the ARDC Midget race at the Grandview Speedway, Bechtelsville,PA. Jim Hettinger was second followed by Wayne Woodward, Bob Cicconi and Jim Maguire.
Justin Grant won the 40-lap USAC Amsoil Sprint Car National Championship Eastern Storm opener at the Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA. Brady Bacon finished second followed by Tanner Thorson, Kevin Thomas Jr. and Robert Ballou. Click to watch the feature highlights video.
Jared Umbenhauer won the NASCAR 358 Modified feature as part of the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series at the Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA. Jeff Strunk was second followed by Craig VonDohren, Doug Manmiller, Mike Gular, Brett Kressley, Jack Butler, Alex Yankowski, Ryan Watt and Duane Howard.
