Dick Frazier won the AAA Midget race at the Oak Ridge Sportsdrome, Knoxville,TN.

Tony Bettenhausen won the AAA sanctioned Phoenix 100 Race on the 1 Mile Dirt Oval Arizona State Fairgrounds in Phoenix, Arizona. Duane Carter finished second followed by Sam Hanks, Manny Ayulo and Bob Scott.
Jimmy Bryan won the USAC sanctioned Bobby Ball Memorial Race on the 1 Mile Dirt Oval Arizona State Fairgrounds in Phoenix, Arizona. Pat O'Connor finished second followed by Johnny Boyd, Art Bisch and Johnnie Tolan.
Jud Larson, driving the George Bignotti Bowes Seal Fast Special #9, won the USAC sanctioned Bobby Ball Memorial Championship Big Car Race on the 1 Mile Dirt Oval Arizona State Fairgrounds in Phoenix, Arizona. Tony Bettenhausen finished second followed by Eddie Sachs, A.J. Foyt and Rodger Ward.
Robert "Red" Byron... Died ... He was a NASCAR driver who was successful in the sanctioning body's first years. He was NASCAR's first Modified champion (and its first champion in any division) in 1948 and its first Strictly Stock (predecessor to NEXTEL Cup) champion in 1949.
Larry Cannon won the USAC Sprint Car race over George Snider, Sammy Sessions, Bruce Walkup, Ron Rea and Rollie Beale at the Ascot Park Speedway, Gardena,CA.
