Jimmy Vasser ... Born ... An American racing driver and race team owner. Vasser won the 1996 Champ Car champion with Chip Ganassi Racing, and scored ten victories in the series. Vasser was the last American to win the Champ Car championship.

Gary Patterson won the USAC Sprint Car race at the Ascot Park Speedway, Gardena,CA. Clark Templeman was second followed by Sheldon Kinser, Jimmy Oskie and George Snider.
Neil Bonnett won the NASCAR Winston Cup L.A. Times 500 over Richard Petty at the Ontario Motor Speedway, Ontario, California.
Rich Vogler won the USAC Midget race at the Mesa Marin Raceway, Bakersfield,CA. Pancho Carter was second followed by Mel Kenyon, Tommy Thomas and Chuck Gurney.
Steve Smith won the Super Sprint Car race at the Reading Fairgrounds, Reading,PA. Van May was second followed by Bobby Allen, Dub May and Kramer Williamson. Dick "Toby" Tobias won the Modified Stock Car part of the double show. Jimmy Horton was second followed by Dick Quallio, Jimmy Baker and MeMe DeSantis.

Brady Bacon won the $5,000-to-win wingless finale of the ASCS Canyon Region 43rd annual Kronik Energy Drink Western World Championship at the USA Speedway in Tucson, AZ. Levi Jones was second followed by Bud Kaeding, R.J. Johnson, Shane Cottle, Johnny Herrera, Robert Ballou, Jerry Coons Jr., Dustin Morgan and Stevie Sussex.
Kyle Busch won the NASCAR Nationwide Series Ford 300 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, Homestead, FL. Kevin Harvick finished second followed by Brad Keselowski, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Trevor Bayne, Carl Edwards, Joey Logano, Brendan Gaughan, Paul Menard and Jason Leffler.
