1912
Ralph DePalma won the AAA sanctioned Vanderbilt Cup on the 7.88 Mile Wauwatosa Road Race Course in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

1921
Mike Nazaruk... Born ... AAA driver He raced midget cars, sprint cars, and IndyCars. He was nicknamed "Iron Mike." He won the track championships at Staten Island, New York, and Rhinebeck, New York in 1947. He scored over twenty feature wins at Middletown, New York enroute to winning the 1948 track championship. Nazaruk was the 1949 American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) midget car champion. [1] The series tours the East Coast of the United States. Nazaruk joined the AAA in 1950. He won 14 national midget tour events, including the 1950 Night Before the 500, and the first midget car event at Terre Haute Action Track in 1953. He finished fifth in the 1954 National Midget car points. Nazaruk finished second in his first Indianapolis 500 in 1951. He competed in two more Indianapolis 500, including a fifth place finish in 1954. Nazaruk was killed in a sprint car race at Langhorne Speedway on May 1, 1955.

1925
Paul Goldsmith... Born ... A motorcycle Hall of Famer and former USAC and NASCAR driver. Goldsmith was a famous AMA motorcycle racer during the late 1940s through the mid-1950s. He was the winner of the final stock car race at the famous Daytona Beach Road Course in 1958. He was also the only driver to win the Daytona Beach Road course both in a stock car and on a motorcycle. Goldsmith was the 1961 USAC Stock Car Champion, with 7 poles, 10 wins, 16 top-five finishes in 19 races. Goldsmith won his second consecutive USAC championship in 1962 with 6 poles, 8 wins, and 15 top-five finishes in 20 races. Goldsmith competed in 8 races in the USAC Championship Car series, between 1958 and 1963 with 6 of those starts in the Indianapolis 500. He finished in the top five twice at Indy, following up a 5th place finish in 1959 with a 3rd in 1960.

Bob McLean won the Hut Hundred USAC Midget race over Parnelli Jones and Don Branson at the Terre Haute Action Track , Terre Haute,IN.

Larry Dickson and Bill Brown won the ARDC Midget feature races at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds, Bloomsburg,PA.
Bobby Abel won the Super Modified race at the Lincoln Speedway, Hanover,PA. Rick Schmelyun finished second followed by Dizzy Dean, Jackie Faulk and Bud Folkenroth.

Bobby Hogle won the CRA Sprint Car race at the Ascot Park Speedway, Gardena,CA.
Ray Brown won the ARDC Midget race at the Nazareth Raceway, Nazareth,PA.
Mario Andretti won the USAC Joe James/Pat O'Connor Memorial 100 Sprint Car race at the Salem Speedway , Salem,IN. Roger McCluskey was second followed by Bobby Unser and Ralph Liguori.

Dick Zimmerman won the CRA Sprint Car race at the Ascot Park Speedway, Gardena,CA. Stan McElrath was second followed by Chuck Allen, Bud Gilbert and Bobby Hogle.
Dutch Schaefer ,wheeling the Mike Sheehan Sesco, won the ARDC Midget race at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds, Bloomsburg,PA. Jimmy Maguire was second followed by Jimmy Coy, Jimmy Kirk, Larry McCoy and Mitch Smith.
Billy Cassella, in the Al Hamilton # 77, won the "Big 71" Super Sprint Car race at the Selinsgrove Speedway, Selinsgrove,PA. ( Click here for the race report. )
Paul Becker won the Late Model race at the Hialeah Speedway, Hialeah, FL.
Jim Keppley won the 35-lap Modified race at the Penn National Speedway, Grantville, PA. Don Kreitz finished second followed by Johnny Botz, Ken Brightbill and Red Coffin. Gary Wolford won the 25-lap Super Sportsman race over Bobby Weaver.
