LAUBACH NETS HIS FOURTH VICTORY OF THE SEASON AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY

Swedesboro, NJ (June 24, 2012) – On Hoffman Speed Supply Night at Bridgeport Speedway, Rick Laubach netted his fourth Big Block Modified victory of the year. Travis Hill topped the Crate Sportsmen field while Mike Haggenbottom collected top honors in the Hilborn TSRS Sprint Car main event.

After the original start of the 30-lap Big Block Modified feature was marred by a multicar accident, Scott Irwin pedaled to the front as action got underway. In the early going, Richie Pratt, Jr. was on the charge and he took over the runner-up spot from Jimmy Chester with four circuits completed. Pratt, Jr. tracked down Irwin and rocketed to the top position on lap 6. A flat on Jack Swain’s ride brought out the yellow flag with seven tours recorded. When racing resumed, Pratt, Jr. remained in control with Irwin in second and Eric Kormann sliding by Chester to gain third. After a restart on lap 8 for another incident involving several drivers, Pratt, Jr. was still in front with Irwin and Kormann battling for second. Pratt, Jr. had a comfortable lead when the yellow flag waved for Bob Sarkisian on lap 14. As green flag racing returned, Rick Laubach, who was collected in the original start accident, leapt to second place from sixth by using the outer groove.

With Laubach beginning to track down Pratt, Jr. for the lead, a spin by Don Cogdill, III on the sixteenth revolution caused the yellow lights to illuminate. On the double file restart, Pratt, Jr. held off Laubach to maintain the top spot. Laubach continued to apply the pressure on the outside and drove to the front on lap 18. After gaining the lead, Laubach switched to the low groove and began to pull away. With only five tours remaining, Laubach’s margin had reached a full straightaway with lap traffic on the horizon. Laubach’s very comfortable advantage disappeared on lap 28 due to a spin by Matt Harrell. Following the single file restart, Laubach drove away from Pratt, Jr. and the rest of the field to net his fourth victory of the year and his thirtieth career checkered flag at Bridgeport Speedway.

Pratt, Jr. came home in second with Kormann taking third. Jimmy Horton, who was involved in both of the multi-car accidents, came back through the field to take fourth. Irwin finished a season best fifth.

The Big Block Modified heats went to Richie Pratt, Jr., Jesse Hill, and Brett Ballard.

Travis Hill dominated the 20-lap Crate Sportsmen feature to rack his fifth win of the year. Ryan Wozunk set the pace for the first eight circuits of the event. Hill, who started the race in ninth, gained the lead on lap 9 and was never challenged during the remaining distance.

Second place went to Wozunk with Ricky DiEva taking third and Brett Kressley crossing the finish line in fourth. A last lap pass earned Matt Budd a fifth place result. Ricky DiEva and Brett Kressley were the winners in the Crate Sportsmen qualifying events.

In the 20-lap Hilborn TSRS Sprint Car main event, Mike Haggenbottom led wire-to-wire to take the victory. In the final circuits of the contest, Haggenbottom’s comfortable margin disintegrated as Kyle Purks and Rick Stief were charging towards the front. Purks wound up in second and Stief finished in third. Stephanie Palmai and Bob DeVault rounded out the top five. The heat races in the Hilborn TSRS Sprint Car class were won by Ed Newhouser and George Loux.
