HENDRICKSON PICKS UP SECOND BIG BLOCK MODIFIED WIN OF THE SEASON
The "Flying Farmer", Wade Hendrickson, drove the Pondish 358 small block powered #6 to a second feature win in the Spirit Dodge Big Block Modified feature event on Saturday night. 2013 Bridgeport Rookie Champion, Ian Humphreys raced to a flag to flag win in the 811 Dig Safely Crate/Sportsman Feature event while Alex Bright picked up another win in American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) action on the quarter mile track.
It was Hendrickson's second win in the last four weeks of racing. The driver from Lawrenceville, NJ has learned to read the race track and his competition, waiting patiently for the track conditions to come to him. "These guys go so fast at the start of the race," Hendrickson explained, "With the track watered before the feature, they can go so fast and it builds up a lot of heat. That works in my favor in the late stages of the race."
Tom Maccherone and Kyle Hieber paced the Big Block Modifieds to the start of the twenty-five lap main event. Hieber quickly took the lead at the wave of the green but Maccherone powered back underneath the Big Block rookie to take the lead. But neither driver would be credited with leading the first lap as Roco Infante drove to the inside of both competitors to take the lead on the first circuit. As the field came around to complete lap two, Maccherone and Dominic Buffalino split to either side of Infante with Buffalino taking the lead. After starting tenth, Buffalino was the race leader at the end of two laps.
Buffalino's advance to the front came as no surprise to anyone as the Sayreville, NJ leadfoot was the fastest car on the track all night. Buffalino set the fastest lap times in both warm-ups and his heat race - the only car to break the twenty-one second mark. His fastest lap in the feature was again 20.839 seconds.
Buffalino set a torrid pace in the caution free laps, stretching his lead over Infante through lap sixteen. Hendrickson was waged in a three way battle for second as Ron Roberts made it three wide in turns one and two on lap seventeen with Hendrickson taking over the runner-up spot. 2012 Bridgeport Track Champion, Rick Laubach took over third one lap later.
With five laps to go, Buffalino led with Hendrickson closing. Laubach ran third followed by Roberts and Infante.
One lap later, Laubach slowed on the backstretch with a right rear flat on his Benton Electric #7, bringing out the first caution of the race. Laubach pitted for a tire change and returned to restart in the rear of the field on the single file restart with just four laps remaining.
With Hendrickson on his bumper, Buffalino led the field in search of his first win of the season. Hendrickson looked to the outside on lap twenty-two but Buffanlino prevailed. On the next lap, Hendrickson powered by Buffalino as the pair raced down the backstretch. Hendrickson led the final two and a half laps to take the win over Buffalino. Tommy Beamer rallied in the closing laps with the Thornton #31 to finish third. Jimmy Horton raced his way to fourth after starting sixteenth. Roberts culminated a strong run with a fifth place finish.
2013 Rookie Champion, Ian Humphreys overcame a season full of disappointments as he earned his first win in the 811 Dig Safely Crate/Sportsman twenty lap main event. Humphreys led from the green to the checkered, surviving several complete restarts before even one lap could be scored. Justin Lilick, a recent graduate of the DA's Auto Body & Repair Rookie class of 2014, finished second. CJ Jones raced his way to a third place finish followed by Frank Holmes and Jesse James Bonaduce.
Collegeville, PA driver, Alex Bright led a field of ARDC midgets on the quarter mile track to pick up his second win of the 2014 season in ARDC competition as the wingless midgets returned to the Bridgeport Speedway after an absence of several seasons. It was deja vue for Bright who won his very first ARDC midget feature on the Bridgeport quarter mile. Trailing Bright across the line was his younger brother, Brenden Bright in second. Current ARDC point leader, Steven Drevicki finished third followed by Bruce Buckwalter Jr. and Nick Wean.
The fifty lap 8 Cylinder Enduro capped off the evening of racing with the win going to "The Animal", Mike Baldwin.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…
New Egypt, NJ (July 12, 2014) Billy Pauch Jr. of Frenchtown, NJ recorded his first win in the Rick Holsten owned #96 Saturday night as he captured the 30 lap Modified feature at New Egypt Speedway. Pauch Jr. impressed all on hand as he grabbed the lead on lap #5 and then pulled away from his dad, 6 time champion Billy Pauch, with ease on the final restart with 4 laps remaining.
PJ Oliver and DJ Ruppert brought the field to the start with Oliver leading the first couple of laps as Neal Williams & Gary Butler moved in to challenge. Pauch Jr. quickly chased those two with all three drivers battling for the lead. Pauch Jr. wrestled the top spot away from them as Pauch Sr. was already fifth after just 5 laps from his 14th starting spot. By lap 10, Pauch had moved in to second to chase his son while point leader Ryan Godown was up to third. Pauch and Godown raced hard nose to tail but could not make up any ground on the younger Pauch as he was flawless in traffic. As the laps clicked off it seemed that Pauch Jr was going to cruise to the victory when the final caution flag appeared with 4 laps remaining. However the restart was anti climactic as Pauch Jr. easily pulled away to win his first of the season at NES. Billy Pauch Sr. broke on the final lap going down the backstretch as Godown went on to claim the runner up spot. Gary Butler drove a nice race to finish third, with Willie Osmun and Neal Williams rounding out the top five.
Mike Haggenbottom of Levittown, PA won for the second straight week in the New Egypt RaceSavers 305 Sprint Car 20 lap feature. Haggenbottom did it a little bit easier than his last lap pass last week, as this time he got to the front early after a hard battle with Mark Bitner and set a pace that was difficult for the rest of the field to match. Phil Meisner Jr. finished second with a late race charge past Bitner and Bobby Devault. Bitner ended up third, followed by Devault and 13th starter Stefanie Palmai.
Mike Hendershot of Hackettstown, NJ won for the second time in a month, after going almost 20 years between wins. The event looked like it would be an easy win for Mike Lyons until his motor broke under yellow with 2 laps remaining. This gave the lead to JT Trstensky who was looking for his first ever win, however Hendershot had other ideas as he got by Trstensky going into turn 3 on the final lap and then held off Trstensky’s crossover move in turn four to win by a bumper! Mike Butler, Johnny Cornell and Jason Dunn followed the duo across the stripe.
Bill Liedtka rebounded this week to take top honors in the Street Stock 20 mlap feature. Leidtka drove a superb race holding off Todd Dige for the victory. Jason Saredy, John Carpenter and Dan Collamer rounded out the top five.
Next Saturday NES takes a break from its regular Saturday racing presenting a Demo Derby & Mud Hop starting at 5:30pm. There will also be a 4 cyl. Enduro on the slate. The following week, July 26th, The 358 Modifieds will return to action joined by the Sportsman and Street Stocks. It will be Bike night, as anyone coming to the track on a motorcycle will receive half price general admission. It will also be Powder Puff race night, with the ladies taking the wheel for their own races at the end of the evening. Gates will open at 4:00p.m. with the first race starting at 6:00 pm.

Wall Stadium Saturday night report
Posted by: | Comments
Wall Stadium
WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ- Jason Hearne returned to victory lane at Wall Stadium after a long absence by winning the Modified feature Saturday night.
Jason Hearne took the lead early in the 40-lap Modified feature and never relinquished it. Andrew Krause and Steven Reed fought for second place behind Hearne for several laps. Just past the halfway mark Krause was racing outside of Reed for position when he got loose coming out of turn four. Although he was almost completely sideways, somehow Krause managed to save it. The flagger anticipating the almost wreck waved the caution flag.
On the restart, Hearne resumed the lead with Reed and Eric Mauriello close behind and Krause in fourth place. Reed stayed close to Hearne’s bumper but was unable to find a place to make a challenge for the lead. Hearne took the checkered flag with Reed a close second. Mauriello, Chas Okerson and Krause rounded out the top five.
In victory lane Hearne said “ We fought all week on this car. My dad (Gil Hearne) made all the changes on it so this is his win. I just drove the car.”
Kevin Davison won the Sportsman feature. Davison started in ninth position but found himself leading on lap two with Ken Matlach in second place. A caution that came out on lap five for a two-car incident in turn one erased Davison’s sizable lead. On the restart, Andrew Krause drag raced Matlach for position and then took second place. Krause then closed up on Davison’s bumper and put pressure on Davison for the lead. Lap after lap Krause challenged Davison for the lead. Krause constantly looked low for a place to take the lead as they opened a gap on the rest of the field. On lap 27 the caution waved once more for a two car incident.
On the restart, Davison and Krause raced side by side for the lead. As they came down the frontstretch to complete a lap still side by side, Krause got a little loose and brushed against the outside wall, giving off a shower of sparks. Krause went to the pits to change a tire and then returned. It was now a three lap shootout for the win. It took three tries to get the race back under way as single car spins kept bringing out the cautions. Each time Davison and Matlach drag raced each other for the lead with Robert Sutphin close enough to almost make it a three-way battle for the lead. In the end Davison held off Matlach to take home the win.
Brian Spencer took a narrow win in the 25-lap Legends feature. Spencer had early lead with Robert French in second place. On lap eight the engine on French’s car burst into flames going down the backstretch and came to rest in turn three. The flames were quickly out and French quickly climbed out of his car and appeared to be okay. The red flag came out briefly to clean up the incident.
On the restart Spencer took the lead with Dan Roslin close behind doggedly challenging for the lead. On lap 18 the red flag came out again for a scary incident where Nick Van Winkle’s car rolled and flipped in turns one and two. He emerged shaken but apparently okay.
On the restart Spencer resumed the lead with Roslin behind. Roslin looked high and low for the lead but Spencer held Roslin off to take the win.
In the 50-lap Factory Stock feature Bob McCormick, a regular from Riverhead Speedway, took home to the trophy. Early leader Scott Riggleman started in eight place and quickly worked his way to the lead by lap 10. Riggleman led until lap 27 when McCormick made an outside pass on Riggleman to take the lead. A lap later the caution waved for the spun car of Ronnie Mullin. On the restart McCormick held the lead as a three-way battle for second between Riggleman, Joe Mongeau and Tiffany Olejnik took place. Riggleman slid back to fourth place in the exchange but would later re-pass Olejnik for third spot. McCormick sailed on to the win with Mongeau in second place.
Shannon Mongeau took the 4 Cylinder feature win over James Meyers to win. Although Mongeau has won many times in several other divisions at Wall Stadium, this is only his second win in the 4 Cylinder division.
In the 15-lap Powder Puff Ladies race, Nancy Hills held off Cassandra Denis to win.

Stevie Smith Trumps In Williams Grove Speedweek Mitch Smith Memorial
Posted by: | CommentsMECHANICSBURG, PA – Stevie Smith chased Brian Montieth through lapped traffic for the first 26 laps of the Mitch Smith Memorial Friday night (7/4) at Williams Grove Speedway.
Smith then drove under Montieth in turn three and emerged the leader on lap 27 and would control the final three laps to take home the $10,000 paycheck in the sixth race of Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek.
Montieth and Smith shared the front row for the start of the 30-lap main event and Montieth grabbed the lead off turn two.
“Fred and I talked about it and he said if Montieth gets the lead, just run your groove and get with him and we did and we were able to slide by him,” said Smith. “It was a really good night. These guys are good with the set-ups and they do a really good job with the car. I’m getting more and more confident and it feels really good.”
Brent Marks drove by Chad Layton and into third. Montieth was racing around heavy lapped traffic and Smith was able to close.
Montieth momentarily cleared traffic and so did Smith, who was now about 10 car lengths back. Montieth didn’t have clear track very long as he caught traffic again with 10 laps completed
Montieth cleared three lapped cars and had a clear track again on lap 13. Smith and Marks were still caught behind a few lapped cars.
Montieth had an open track and then Smith cleared traffic as well. Marks was up to third and Donnie Kreitz moved by Layton and into fourth. Lucas Wolfe also drove by Layton and into the top five.
Montieth continued to hammer the cushion and Smith was checking out the bottom just a few car lengths back in lapped traffic.
Montieth slid by rookie Austin Hogue in turn one and scrubbed some speed. Smith was right there and as they raced into turn three, he was able to slide in front of him and take the lead with 27 laps completed. Smith maintained the lead through the first and second turns and down the backstretch.
Montieth blasted under Smith entering turn three and they traded the lead. Smith led Montieth at the line. Behind the race for the lead was Grove point leader Donnie Kreitz closing in.
Very heavy traffic was in front of the leaders, but the first caution flag of the race flew with two laps remaining for Mike Wagner who blew a right rear tire and stopped on the frontstretch.
Smith got a good restart and no slider came from Montieth as he and Kreitz went to the bottom.
Smith led under the white flag and rolled right through the middle of the turns. He would score the win as Montieth just held off Kreitz for second. Brent Marks and Lucas Wolfe were in the top five.
“We were too good, too early,” said Montieth. “I knew we were going to be in trouble. The car was really good the first 10 laps. I was trying to get as many lapped cars between us as I could. We should have started with the car tighter.”
Greg Hodnett, Cory Haas, Dave Blaney, Chad Layton and Doug Esh completed the top 10.
Wolfe set fast time over the 39-car field with a lap of 16.811 seconds. It was Wolfe’s fourth fast time during Speedweek competition. Kreitz, Layton, Marks and Montieth were the top five qualifiers.
The 10-lap heat races were won by Blaney, Haas, S. Smith and Marks. T.J. Stutts won the B-main.

Duane Howard(WoS photo)
In the sixty lap PPB Race of Champions feature, pole sitter Stew Friesen led the first lap with Rick Laubach taking the top spot on lap two. The one and only caution flag of the race came out on lap two for Craig VonDohren who had a flat tire. On the restart, Friesen remained the leader with Laubach in the hunt. MeMe DeSantis passed Laubach for second on lap five, but one lap later, Laubach returned to second. Duane Howard, who flipped violently on Saturday night was in the hunt and running third.
On lap fifteen, a three car battle for the lead was unfolding between Friesen, Laubach and Howard. As the leaders approached lapped traffic, Friesen appeared to have an edge, pulling away from the rest of the field. As the field approached the halfway point of the race, Jeff Strunk was now reeling in the leaders, making it a four car race for win. As the field passed on lap thirty-eight, Friesen, Laubach, Howard and Strunk were now surrounded by slower traffic as the four drivers began to duke it out for the lead. Howard moved into second and began his job to reel in the leader.
It was a new race on lap forty as Rick Laubach became the new leader and by lap forty-two, Howard was second with Friesen third and hard charging Jeff Strunk was now running in fourth. With just ten laps to go, the race became more interesting as Laubach, Howard and Strunk were in the chase for the lead. Howard regained the lead on lap fifty-two and by lap fifty-six, Laubach was again back on top.
With three laps to go, Laubach, Howard and Strunk were not only dodging each other but a list of slower cars just ahead of the leaders. On lap fifty-eight, Howard took the lead with Laubach and Strunk side-by-side for second. With the checker flag waiving, Duane Howard took the victory to collect the $5,000 first place prize. Rick Laubach finished second followed by Jeff Strunk, Stewart Friesen and Keith Hoffman.
