ByAccord, NY- It is "Show Time" As Danny Tyler Drives To Convincing Win In Accord Speedway Action
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer were forced to roll the dice again and came up the big winners on Friday evening as they hosted a seven division race card at their superb quarter mile speedplant located in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. With thunderstorms forecast for the area and rain falling at times during the day, the Palmer Family forged ahead and the events were both pleasing to the good crowd that came to watch and to the drivers who were recipients of contingency posted by Jimmy Winchell and Jody Servo and the DeCicco Family for the Vinny D Memorial event. The evening of speed was sponsored by the good folks at Want Ad Digest while the Checkered Flag Bonus was sponsored by Backwoods Blends.
"Show Time" Danny Tyler rocked the house with an outstanding drive to capture his first win of the season in the United Pump and Tank Modified finale. "Jammin" Jimmy Wells made it four wins for the season as he captured the $1,555.00 Plus prize in the 55-lap Vinny D Memorial event. Livy Johnson made it two wins in a row as she captured the Arkel Motors Pure Stock encounter. "The Young Outlaw" Jesse James Bartleson raced to his second win of the season in the Ruges NEWS Sprint Car feature. Jason Feinberg was triumphant in the Ruges Rookie Feature event to claim his first ever win at the speedway. Sarah Bohlin raced to her first ever win at Accord in the Want AD Digest All Star Slingshots while "The Hurricane" Hunter Lapp earned his fourth win of the season in the WRWD Radio Junior Slingshots.
Lem Atkins led the first lap of the United Pump And Tank Modified feature before yielding to the high flying Robbie Green. Green led for four laps before being overtaken by "Iron" Mike Ricci. That is when the real fun began as Ricci was strong but was being pushed hard by Tyler. Ricci would lead until lap eleven when Tyler slipped past him on a restart but Tyler would give way to Ricci one lap later. Ricci was in command but Tyler wouldn't go away and soon was knocking on the door. On lap-19, Tyler made his move as he drove off of the baseline to pull even with Ricci and then cleared him to take over the lead for good. Ricci stayed close but the event belonged to Tyler, who had gotten off to a problematic start at the beginning of the season. Ricci, Brad Rothaupt, Anthony Perrego from 11th, Danny Creeden from the back of the pack after pitting, rounded out the top five. The second five found tight quarters as well with lots of good racing taking place with Bob McGannon 6th from a 22nd place start, Robbie Green, Jesse Marks, Richard Smith and Richie Eurich rounding out the top ten.
The Healey Brothers Group Sportsman event in honor of the late Vinny DeCicco was a 55-lap barnburner and from the word go and the returning "Twister" Tyler Boniface jumped out into the lead at the start and was quickly followed by Wells. Boniface gave way to Wells on lap seven but remained close as did Greg McCloskey and quick running newcomer Brad Weaver. The racing offered good ebb and flow as Boniface gained some momentum and regained the lead on lap-17. Boniface would lead until lap twenty when he expired the motor on the Ken's Logging and Land Clearing hot rod. Wells inherited the lead and even though he led the remaining laps of the event to claim the win and the big prize that went with it, the racing racing close until the end of the event. Greg McCloskey was second in the Vinny D Tribute racer. "The K-Man" Robbie Knipe was third in a solid run at the roses while Phil Goetchius was fourth from 13th and Chris Stevens was fifth from 11th. The second five found Brad Weaver, Phil Johnson, Cole Hentschel, Leo Fotopolous and Collin DuBois finishing inline.
Jason Feinberg began the Rookie Sportsman feature attraction from the outside pole but powered into the lead as the field hit the second turn of the first lap. Feinberg had some missteps along the way but found the needed speed and control when he needed it to race to a close win over Jim Kraus, when went to the back of the field once during the event. The birthday boy Tighe Sherlock was third with Bobby Flood, newcomer Kevin Stevens, Tanner Johnson and Ryan McCartney following.
Livy Johnson enjoyed her time in victory lane so much last she decided to it again. Much the same as she did one week ago, Johnson led from the opening bell and it was just the ticket she needed to wire the field and claim her second consecutive Arkel Motors Pure Stock win at the speedway. Ray Tarantino stayed close for second place honors while Tim Southard, Bob Palmer, Steve Williams, Harry Bachman, Chris Kanuk and Bob Sleight completed the field.
Sarah Bohlin, a former four cylinder racer at the speedway, raced to her first ever Want Ad Digest All Star Slingshot win at Accord and she did it in convincing fashion as she won by a straightaway after fifteen laps of racing. Newcomer Brett Putnam was the runner-up.
Hunter Lapp was spot on in the WRWD Radio Junior Slingshot encounter as he slipped past Michael Corbin late in the event to race to victory, his fourth win of the season at Accord. Corbin, who was coming off a big win on Sunday at Shellhamers Speedway, was the runner-up with John Kendall in third and Ashton Dewitt finishing fourth.
Jesse James Bartleson missed a week of racing last week but more than made up for it with a wire to wire run in the NEWS Sprints to claim his second win of the season. Don Smith Jr debuted a new sprinter and finished in the runner-up role with Fred Proctor third, Andrew Davis Fourth and Eric Jennings completing the top five.
