MANSFIELD, OH (October 13, 2017) - The “Kunkletown Kid” Ryan Smith cashed in for a grand total of $10,000 on Friday night at Mansfield Motor Speedway, sweeping the entire “Double Down at Mansfield” program that included two main events, one of which a make-up feature that was originally scheduled for Sunday, May 28. Joining a short list of competitors who have accomplished two Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions main event victories in one day including Dave Blaney, Sammy Swindell, Bobby Allen and Fred Rahmer, Smith’s Friday night sweep raised his season win total to three with “America’s Series,” now with six over the course of his young career.
“This is a night to remember, for sure,” Ryan Smith said following his second main event victory at Mansfield Motor Speedway. “There are a lot of great people who helped put this deal together at the beginning of the year. Those same people have been working hard all season long. To close out our All Star schedule with a win was big, but to get two in the same night is a whole different story. I’m excited to get to Eldora tomorrow. There’s no reason why we can’t keep this momentum going.”
Double Down at Mansfield Feature Finale report:
Waterville, Ohio’s Travis Philo and Lemoore, California’s Carson Macedo led the 26 starters to green on Friday night during the “Double Down at Mansfield Motor Speedway” feature finale. Philo worked to the front early, chased to the flag stand for the first time by Macedo and Ryan Smith. Philo led the first 21 circuits of the 30-lap finale, withstanding two restarts after a pair of cautions on laps four and eleven, as well as periods of traffic.
While Philo set the pace, the battle for second was hot with Smith and Macedo exchanging positions on several occasions, twice during the first four circuits. By the midpoint of the 30-lapper, Philo’s command all but diminished as Macedo and Smith made their way to the back bumper of the Control Design Solutions/Banshee Graphics/No. 5T.
On lap 20, Smith worked around Macedo to take second, soon followed by a bid for the top spot on lap 22. The pilot of the Tom and Sherry Leidig/Warko Group/Speciality Rigging/Slade Shocks/Rick’s Auto Body/Auto Electric of Jupiter, FL./No. 59 used the bottom edge of the speedway to slingshot underneath Philo at the exit of turn two, ultimately making the winning move stick as the pair raced through turns three and four.
From that point forward, Smith raced on top of the field unchallenged, surviving a pair of cautions on laps 24 and 25 to earn the main event victory. Despite a late attempt to work back around Smith using the very topside of the speedway, Macedo would cross under the final checkers second, followed to the finish by Travis Philo, Chad Kemenah and Joey Saldana.
May 28 make-up A-main report:
Brad Haudenschild and Tim Shaffer led the make-up feature to green to kick-off the evening at Mansfield Motor Speedway. Shaffer earned the early advantage, leading Brad Haudenschild, Jac Haudenschild and Ryan Smith by the flag stand for the first time. Despite a caution on lap three involving T.J. Michael and Jordan Mackison, Shaffer’s command at the front of the field was uninterrupted for the first ten circuits.
Meanwhile, the “Kunkletown Kid” Ryan Smith was in hot pursuit of the “Steel City Outlaw,” moving into second by lap two, eventually allowing traffic to slow Shaffer’s momentum at the front of the field. By lap 10, traffic intensified enough to give Smith his first bid for the top spot; a slidejob between turns three and four. Shaffer’s momentum was enough to allow him to cut back under Smith, leading the pair in a drag race back to the flag stand. Unfortunately, red flag conditions took over the speedway, this time for Brad Haudenschild who was racing inside the top-five. Haudenschild walked away unharmed.
Green flag conditions returned on lap 11 with Shaffer still in command. Despite Shaffer’s ability to pull away during the restart, Smith was back on his bumper by lap 19, simultaneously navigating through traffic while tracking down the Aliquippa native. On lap 26, Smith made another huge bid for the top spot, but this time he succeeded; pulling even with Tim Shaffer as the pair raced down the backstretch, ultimately holding the position through turns three and four.
From that point forward, it was all Ryan Smith, withstanding a final caution on lap 27 to pull away by nearly two seconds at the final checkers. Tim Shaffer held on to finish second, followed by Lee Jacobs, Jac Haudenschild and Chad Kemenah.
“I can’t say enough about this team and how hard they work,” Ryan Smith explained following his first main event victory on Friday night. “It feels great to park this car back in victory lane. We’ve been hungry for another one of these since we got it done in New York a few months back. We have a new set of Slade Shocks on this car car tonight that Eric Slade allowed us to use. It has made a world of a difference so far.”
The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will officially conclude the 2017 season tomorrow evening - Saturday, October 14 - at the legendary Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Joining a field of non-wing sprint cars, as well as the NRA Sprint Invaders, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will headline #LastCallForMethanol at the World’s Greatest Dirt Track. A $5,000 top prize will be awarded, as well as the crowning of the 2017 Arctic Cat All Star champion.
Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, will open gates at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 14. A mandatory meeting for all full-time teams and staff will be conducted at 3:00pm, followed by a mandatory drivers meeting for all of those entered for action at 3:50pm. Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions hot laps will hit the historic half-mile at 4:30pm. 2017 MID-ATLANTIC SPRINT SERIES CHAMPION EDDIE WAGNER LOOKING FORWARD TO GRANDVIEW AFTER COMING OFF VICTORY AT BRIDGEPORT
NEWFIELD, NJ.. With the first inaugural season coming to an end, Eddie Wagner of Newfield, NJ was named the 2017 Engler Machine and Tool Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series point champion on September 22nd at Bridgeport Speedway after also winning the twenty-lap feature event. This Saturday, Wagner is looking to continue his streak by visiting victory lane at Grandview Speedway Inc. to claim the $500 to win pay day, which was upped from the regular $300 to win by series sponsor Freiberger Excavating.
“I always wanted to win a championship title, but I haven’t always had the chance to run a complete schedule, and when I have focused on points, I finished second and third each time,” Wagner said. “It really hasn’t hit me yet that I’ve won because the season hasn’t ended, and we’re focusing on coming out on top in the last string of events. But I am proud to have won this thing with such a small team of just me, my dad, and my buddy Mark, who’s stuck with me since the beginning. It takes a lot of dedication from not just my part, but from crew guys also, which are hard to find on a weekly basis, so I’m very thankful for the help that I have”.

Twenty-seven-year-old Wagner, who began his career racing quarter midgets at the age of thirteen, worked his way up to through the Micro Sprint ranks before purchasing his first full-sized Sprint Car in 2009, racing with the well-known and historic United Racing Club before joining the Tri-State Racesaver Sprint Series in 2012.
“I learned a lot racing with URC when I first started, but it just got to be too expensive, and when the Racesaver 305 Sprint Car division took off in this area, it only made sense to me to start running with those guys because of how close to home we were able to run, and also the cost to race a 305 was significantly cheaper then with the 360’s,” Wagner recalled.
Now, five years later, Wagner owns five victories all coming from Bridgeport Speedway, a 2015 Poker Series Championship from Bridgeport and now the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series Championship title. With the demise of the Tri-State Racesaver Sprint Series (TSRS) at the end of 2016, Eddie and his wife Erika along with fellow competitor Jeff Geiges and his wife Lindsey all took on a new role of managing the new series (MASS) to ensure that the Racesaver concept would be restored and continue to grow in the New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware regions for years to come.
“I haven’t had as much time to stress about my feature set-ups like I’ve had in the past because of the other obligations that Jeff and I took on this season, so everything has been pretty much basic and simple, which has probably benefited me this year to be honest,” Wagner said of his race day involvement as Regional Director over the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series. “We all work so well together, and Jeff and I have some good people behind us this year that have chosen to stick with us and support the series, so I think this year has been successful to say the least”.
With over fifty different competitors competing with MASS within the 2017 season, Wagner explained who he thought was his toughest competition this year, saying "Tommy Carberry is usually a force to reckon with at Grandview. He has a line around the top of the race track that not many people can run, but when he’s up there, he’s always super-fast. At Bridgeport this year, Rick Stief was always quick and you could always find him finishing within the top three there this year, and with that being one of my stronger tracks, I could always count on seeing Rick up there racing hard for the win. We have such a talented field, with guys who are very consistent like Tim Tanner Jr., Dave Brown and Mark Bitner, that it’s hard to just pick just one driver to list as my toughest competitor”.
Eddie looks forward to bringing out a new car for Grandview that he recently purchased and put together for the end of the year races.
“I’m busting out a completely different car for Grandview, a Mach 1, so I’m not really sure what to expect, but if I get a top ten, I will be more than happy with that result,” he said.

The Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series heads to Grandview for the final time this year, for the Thunder On The Hill Racing Series “Triple Thunder Thriller” Special Event, a much-anticipated event for many teams this season. FREIBERGER EXCAVATING BRINGS EXTRA RUMBLE FOR OPEN INVITATION MID-ATLANTIC SPRINT SERIES THUNDER ON THE HILL FINALE

This Saturday, October 14th, the Engler Machine and Tool Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series will be making their way for the final time this season to the high-banked Bechtelsville, PA famed Grandview Speedway. The Racesaver/IMCA sanctioned 305 Sprints will be one of three divisions competing during the Thunder On The Hill Racing Series “Triple Thunder Thriller”, along with the Big Block/Small Block Modifieds and Sportsman Modifieds.
Unlike past years, where this event was known to be “invitation only” to drivers who sat in the top twenty-five in points standings, this year, all teams who are members and non-members wanting to compete are invited to join without being subjected to handicapping and are eligible for all additional contingencies advertised.
Freiberger Excavating , who sponsors heat race number two has upped the purse an extra $750, making it $500 to win and $165 to start. Second through fifth place will be awarded with $325, $280, $250, and $220, with an increase in payout throughout the rest of the field will be seen as well.
Pat Freiberger, owner/operator of Freiberger Excavating is no stranger to the 305 Sprint Car scene, as he was a former competitor and team owner himself, and currently sponsors Stefanie Palmai Carberry, who drives the Palmco Motorsports #99.
“I love racing, everything about it I love,” Freiberger expressed. “I have been a part of racing since I was fifteen years old, and even though I am not behind the wheel anymore, I still have to be a part of it in some way, because I love this sport and I want to support a series that has a great concept of keeping Sprint Car racing affordable and fun for the little guys”.
Freiberger Excavating specializes in installing septic tanks, fiberglass pools and hydro seeding. Keeping busy with the pool installations, Freiberger recently began selling fiberglass pools, making it a “one stop shop” experience.
“I’m really happy to be a part of this new series as a sponsor. It's has been a fresh start for these guys, and I know how expensive racing can get, so any bit helps,” Freiberger said. “I think paid heat races is a great idea. It makes the drivers race a little harder in those short eight laps, making it more exciting for not only the fans, but for the competitors as well. I also love Grandview Speedway, and I believe that it's the perfect Sprint Car track. The shows that the 305 division have put on in the past have always put the fans on their feet, so I am thrilled with being able to be a part of not only the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series, but a Thunder on the Hill event is pretty cool also”.

GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY SET FOR HALLOWEEN PARTY SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14
BILLY PAUCH EYES FIRST EVER NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL MODIFIED WIN SATURDAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA (October 8, 2017) – Legendary Billy Pauch has achieved many accomplishments in modified racing, winning features and championships at almost every race track in the Northeast. Pauch has won the prestigious Freedom 76 at Grandview and won eleven Thunder on the Hill sprint car feature events, but going into the Saturday night, October 14 Mods at the Madhouse 40 lap Traffic Jam, he is still looking for his first Thunder Series modified victory.
Pauch is one of many drivers pre-entered for the season finale that will pay $5,000 to win, $1,000 for tenth and $500 to start the main event. And just for the record, Billy Pauch Jr is the defending winner of this event.
This haunting Halloween trick-or-treat celebration is on tap for fans attending Grandview Speedway’s ‘Triple Thunder Thriller’ 2017 Modified Traffic Jam finale on Saturday, October 14 with the green flag falling at 6 PM. The rain date is Sunday, October 15 with a 5 PM starting time.
The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series presents Mods at the Madhouse – the conclusion of the 28th season of Thunder action – featuring the popular Halloween Party, is a full-show with three divisions of racing action including a Big-Block vs. Small-Block Modified challenge Traffic Jam, the Sportsman division, and the MASS Sprint Cars.
Fans are invited to come dressed for the occasion, Halloween costumes will be the popular attire of the night with awards going out to best dressed for children and adults. Please expect some Halloween candy and of course, this night always provides some tricks and treats along the way.
The roster of pre-entries joining the Pauch family include Jeff Strunk, Craig VonDohren, Duane Howard, Ryan Godown, Rick Laubach, Ryan Watt, Mike Gular, Danny Bouc, Kenny Gilmore, Jared Umbenhauer, Justin Grim and Steve Young just to name a few.
There is no entry fee but drivers must pre-enter to be eligible for the posted payoff. Drivers may pre-enter by calling 443 513 4456.
A special rules package is offered as a ‘treat’ to the region’s competitors, with both American Racer and Hoosier tires allowed for competition, and either Big-Block or Spec Small-Block engines permitted.
The popular Sportsman division is also on the card, competing for a $1,300 top prize for 25-laps of competition on ‘the hill.’ A loosened tire rule is in effect for the Sportsman – competitors are allowed to compete on Hooser or American Racer rubber. Grandview Sportsman rules are in effect and competitors are allowed to run sail panels. Full rules are available on the Grandview Speedway website.
The MASS Sprint Cars will compete in heat race qualifying action and a 25-lap A-Main. Standard MASS club rules apply to competitors.
The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series Haloween Party has been a staple of the Grandview Speedway schedule for over 15 years and will once again include the fan Costume parade. Race fans young and old are encouraged to dress in costume to be eligible for special Halloween prizes.
‘Joe the Pizza Dude’ will offer up hot, delicious, and FREE pizzas to the rowdiest of race fans before the action kicks off. Make some noise when ‘The Pizza Dude’ comes around, to earn yourself a free pizza!
Fans interested in early admission can take part in our Advance Ticket program. Advanced tickets are available by calling 443-513-4456, where you can leave a message with your name, contact number, and the number of tickets you would like. Tickets may be paid for, and picked-up at the Grandview Speedway Will Call window on race night after 3:00 PM. Advanced ticket holders may enter the grandstands at 3:30 PM a full half-hour before General Admission tickets go on sale.
General Admission ticket pricing for Saturday, October 14 is $25 for adults, Children 6-11 are $10 and Kids 5 & Under are FREE! Pit Area admission is $35, and a license is not required.
The Pit gates open at 2:00 PM, Advanced ticket holders can enter at 3:30 PM, General Admission gates open at 4:00 PM and the first Green flag flies at 6:00 PM. In the event of rain, Sunday, October 15 will be the rain date with 5 PM starting time.
