David Gravel, CJB Score 17th Win of Season at Fulton
Jason Johnson and Donny Schatz complete the podium in Super DIRT Week Showdown
FULTON, NY - October 7, 2017 - David Gravel inherited the lead on lap nine after race leader Daryn Pittman got into the back of a slower car and spun to a stop. Gravel survived a multitude of restarts and held off Jason Johnson and Donny Schatz to score his career-best 17th win of the season for CJB Motorsports at the Fulton Speedway Saturday night in conjunction with NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week.
Daryn Pittman muscled his way from fourth to second in his heat race, setting him up perfectly for the Craftsman Club Dash inversion of four. Pittman outdueled Jac Haudenschild in an entertaining Dash to earn the pole of the 25-lap Feature.
At the drop of the Green, Pittman and fellow front row starter Jason Johnson preferred the bottom line, while David Gravel was banging down the cushion.
Pittman had a healthy lead when he reached lapped traffic before disaster struck. Clyde Knipp was trying to pull off the racing surface, got on the brakes and Pittman hit the back of the Knipp and spun to a stop in front of the field off of turn four with eight laps complete. Pittman went to the work area and re-joined the field while Knipp called it a night.
Gravel assumed the lead and battled hard with Johnson on the ensuing restart as Donny Schatz maneuvered his way from his eighth-starting position to third. Another caution flag flew on lap 11 with Scott Kreutter, Parker Price-Miller and Paige Polyak, who qualified for her first ever Craftsman Club Dash earlier in the night, stopped in turn four.
Gravel continued to show the way on restarts and utilized the entire racing surface searching for the fastest way around.
A pair of yellows on lap 21 and 24 gave Johnson and the rest of the field chances to steal the win, to no avail as Gravel took the checkered flag nearly a second in front of Johnson and Schatz.
"The track got so technical. The top was good, then the bottom was good, then I thought the bottom was too slow," Gravel explained in Victory Lane.
"I ran just about every line you could run tonight," the driver of the CJB Motorsports No.5 said with a smile.
Greg Wilson charged from 14th to fourth with 'The Wild Child' Jac Haudenschild completing the top five. World of Outlaws Rookie Brent Marks had a strong night coming home sixth with 13th-starting Kraig Kinser finishing seventh.
Jason Johnson was pleased with his team's runner-up efforts. "We gave it our best shot tonight. I did my best to race clean and hard and finishing between [Gravel and Schatz] is an accomplishment in itself," Johnson said.
Brad Sweet, 22nd-starting Mike Mahaney and Sheldon Haudenschild completed the top ten. Mahaney, who is qualified for Sunday's Billy Whittaker Cars and Trux 200 at the Oswego Speedway, picked up the KSE Hard Charger award.
Donny Schatz, who extended his points lead, said, "We battled the best we could. That's what you have to do to win a championship.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to action next Saturday at the Port Royal Speedway for one final date with the Pennsylvania Posse before returning to New York for a pair of rain date events at the Weedsport Speedway and Ransomville Speedway Sunday and Monday October 15 and 16, respectively. POWRi Racing : BALLOU BEST AT SPRINT MANIA

FAIRBURY, IL. (October 7, 2017) - Robert Ballou made his POWRi Lucas Oil WAR East Sprint League debut in stunning fashion coming out victorious at the league's season finale event at Fairbury American Legion Speedway. Sprint Mania gathered a wide variety of drivers for the inaugural event with nine different states represented among the field of 31 cars. Ballou bested the group over Dave Darland, Joe B. Miller, Landon Simon, and League Champion Korey Weyant rounded out the top five.
The feature event was full of big sliders, close calls, and drama. Mario Clouser and Joe B. Miller led the 22-car starting field to green flag racing Saturday night with Miller leading lap one while Ballou sat third, but he didn't waste any time before throwing a slide job in turns three and four to take over second.
The yellow flag flew early on in the race for Mitch Wissmiller and Kevin Thomas Jr. who tangled and came to a stop in turns three and four. Kevin Thomas Jr. and Josh Hodges had originally travelled to Haubstadt, Indiana earlier that day for a race at Tri-State Speedway which got rained out. They loaded up and hauled directly to "FALS" where they tagged the back of the B-Main and both transferred into the feature event. Thomas won the B-Main from the back.
When the green flag came back out, a fierce battle within the top five continued to heat up. Joe B. Miller remained in the lead while Tyler Courtney challenged Ballou for second and then Dave Darland showed his nose to challenge Courtney for third. Courtney found enough momentum coming off of turn two and threw the slider at Ballou in turns three and four to make the pass for second leaving Ballou now in third.
As Miller began to catch lapped traffic, the red flag would wave for Terry Babb who got above the cushion in turns three and four and upside down. He climbed out under his own power but was done for the evening.
21 laps remained. The green flag flew, and Courtney was hot on Miller's trail as he followed him down the backstretch. Courtney threw the slide job for the lead, Miller crossed over and they drag raced down the front straightaway to the crowd's delight. Courtney was the new race leader.
Courtney remained in a comfortable lead while Ballou and Darland worked their way past Joe B. Miller. Ballou began reeling Courtney in as he caught lapped traffic. Ballou pressured Courtney in turns three and four, but Courtney remained in the lead until he made contact with lap car Kevin Thomas Jr in turns one and two and flipped with four laps to go. Courtney climbed out under his own power, but would not refire.
With an open racetrack and four laps left ahead of him, Ballou would go on to snag his first POWRi Lucas Oil WAR East win of his career and a stellar $4,000 payday over Dave Darland and Joe B. Miller.
Korey Weyant was crowned the 2017 POWRi Lucas Oil WAR East Champion Saturday night after wrapping up the title season over Terry Babb by 107 points, which makes him the first ever Champion to sweep both WAR regions in a season.
The POWRi Lucas Oil WAR East Sprints concluded their season with the Sprint Mania event and will begin planning the 2018 season immediately. Any racetracks interested in promoting an event can contact League Director, Casey Shuman.

Swindell Unstoppable With Lucas Oil ASCS At El Paso County Raceway
CALHAN, Colo. (October 7, 2017) Returning to Colorado after a nearly 20 year absence, Sammy Swindell made his return worthwhile at the El Paso County Raceway as the driver of the A.G Rains Motorsports No. 3 parked in Victory lane for the third time in 2017 with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.
Drawing the pole in Saturday's 25-lap feature event, Swindell outran Colorado's Jake Bubak into the first two turns to hold the race lead on a track that was slick but still had some rough spots in the corners that proved challenging for several teams.
Slowed with one lap complete for the spun No. 99 of Skylar Gee, Swindell held off any attempt at the lead.
Working to traffic by the seventh lap, Swindell had to move carefully as all lanes of the quarter-mile were occupied. Finally held up behind a pair of slower cars, Bubak closed from over a half straightaway to the back bumper of the Rossie Feed and Grain No. 3.
"Sometimes you just run up on a couple cars at a time. With it being a little bumpy, those slower guys would hit the ruts and really upset their cars, and sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time so it was a challenge, but it was fun. I'm very blessed to be able to do this. The Lord's been with me," commented Swindell of the race through traffic.
Unable to clear the slower cars, the pair began using lapped cars as picks with each looking to pin the other. Rushing the inside line off the fourth turn several times as the race approached the halfway point, Bubak pulled all but even, but the lapped traffic chess match would swing the way of Swindell.
Under caution for the final time with seven laps to run, Swindell was unchallenged the rest of the way, winning by 2.508 seconds. Jake Bubak held on to the runner-up spot with Aaron Reutzel coming up to take the final podium step. Taking advantage of restarts, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. came from seventh to fourth with Matt Covington fifth.

Seth Bergman was sixth with Johnny Herrera seventh. Jason Martin crossed eighth followed by Blake Hahn. Despite engine issues, Wayne Johnson rounded out the top-ten. Three Heat Races on the night were topped by Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Jake Bubak, and Matt Covington. The CP-Carrillo Hard Charger was Sam Hafertepe, Jr. No provisionals were used.
