Aaron Reutzel gets fourth All Star victory of season during visit to Plymouth Speedway
PLYMOUTH, Ind. (June 29, 2018) - Clute, Texas’ Aaron Reutzel made the most of his pole position on Friday night, leading all 41 circuits at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Indiana, to earn his fourth Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victory of the 2018 season, solidly on top of the Series’ season win count.
The main event, originally scheduled to go 35 laps in distance, was adjusted to 41 laps to honor the late, great Jason Johnson.
“This is a special win for me and my team. To win a 41-lap race in honor of Jason Johnson is very special, and really emotional, ” said Aaron Reutzel in victory lane, driver Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports/Folkens Brothers Trucking/Fischer Body Shop/No. 87 sprint car. “I’ve known Jason a long time. I watched him race a lot in the area where I am from, and when I started to build a race team, he helped me out a lot. My car actually had a fuel line come off tonight, but I was too stubborn to stop. I wanted to win this one.”
Reutzel’s campaign at the front of the field was nearly flawless. After withstanding a trio of cautions during the first 11 circuits, one of which resulting in open red flag conditions due to a lengthy caution clean up effort, it was smooth sailing for the former ASCS national champion, ultimately sneaking away just enough in traffic to keep anywhere between a half-straightaway and a full straightaway between himself and second place running Jac Haudenschild.
Although escaping unscathed, Reutzel’s only close call of the 41-lap program occurred on lap 29 when the Texan caught a trio of lapped cars at once, forcing Reutzel to take evasive action and split all three competitors. With clearer lanes ahead, especially his preferred lane around the topside of the speedway, Reutzel drove on to score the $5,000 payday by a margin of victory equalling 1.34 seconds.
Chasing Reutzel most of the way, Jac Haudenschild finished second at Plymouth Speedway, and although he was able to keep Reutzel within two seconds at the final checkers, the “Wild Child” was never in any position to take the top spot from Reutzel. Lemoore, California’s Carson Macedo finished third from tenth on the grid, followed by Brady Bacon and Chad Kemenah.
Continuing on down the highway, the Dirt Oval at Route 66 in Joliet, Ill., will welcome the All Star Circuit of Champions for the second time in Series history on Saturday, June 30. Joining the stars and cars of the IRA Outlaw Sprint Series, the “Summer Slash” event at the state-of-the-art motorsports complex, the first and only All Star visit to the Land of Lincoln in 2018, will be a “must see” experience for any open wheel enthusiast. The All Star Circuit of Champions will face-off against many of the IRA’s best including multi-time IRA champion, Bill Balog; current Series point leader and two-time winner, Scotty Thiel; 2018 championship contenders, Jake Blackhurst and Jeremy Schultz; and 2018 IRA opening night winner, Steve Meyer.
MAVTV Motorsports Network, the official television home of the All Star Circuit of Champions in 2018, will be on hand to capture all of the action from the Dirt Oval at Route 66 on Saturday evening. The entire program will be recorded for a tape-delay broadcast set for later in the year. An updated MAVTV/All Star broadcast schedule will be published later this summer.

Schatz Scores 12th Win of Year on Night One of the Brownells Big Guns Bash at Knoxville
KNOXVILLE, IA – June 29, 2018 – Even in June, Donny Schatz reigns supreme at Knoxville Raceway, as the 10-time Knoxville Nationals Champion led all 25 on the opening night of the Brownells Big Guns Bash to score his 12th World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory of the year. Ian Madsen and David Gravel completed the all World of Outlaws podium.
Schatz won the Sears Craftsman Dash, earning the pole for the 25-lap Feature alongside Australian and Knoxville regular Lynton Jeffrey. Schatz took command at the drop of the Green, but Jeffrey stayed right with the nine-time Series Champion until the first caution of the evening flew for Jordyn Brazier with three laps complete.
Six-time Knoxville winner in 2018 Brian Brown also headed to the work area with damage after heavy contact with the outside retaining wall. On the ensuing double-file restart, Schatz and Jeffrey made contact on the frontstretch with the latter going for a wild series of flips. Jeffrey emerged unscathed after the wild accident and brought the crowd to their feet with his endless positivity in his post-crash interview.
Schatz continued to lead on the restart with Brooke Tatnell assuming the runner-up position. With momentum on the bottom, Schuchart took second from Tatnell on Lap 10.
Brothers Ian and Kerry Madsen waged war for multiple laps behind them for the fourth position before younger brother Ian solidified himself in the position. Ian wasn’t done there as he reeled in both Tatnell and Schuchart to take second with five laps remaining. But there was no catching Donny Schatz tonight, as he was never truly challenged after the Lap 3 restart going on to win by 3.809 seconds for the 12th time in 2018.
The first thing Schatz did in Victory Lane was get on the wing and throw up the 41 in honor of Jason Johnson. “It’s been a very shocking week. I’m glad to be standing here tonight, words can’t describe it,” an emotional Schatz said before thanking his entire Textron Off Road team.
“My guys are incredible, I am blessed to be able to drive this thing. It’s great to win at Knoxville,” Schatz said next to his Tony Stewart Racing No.15. Two-time Knoxville Raceway Champion and the leading contender for Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Ian Madsen matched his season-best effort with his second-place finish.
“I had a great race car. I took a little while to get going, but [Kyle] Ripper and the guys gave me a fun car to drive tonight. It’s awesome to come back to Knoxville and have a solid showing and put the car up front,” Madsen said.
David Gravel charged from 11th to complete the all World of Outlaws podium and was pleased with his end to the evening. “We missed it a little bit in Qualifying, but after that, we were really good. We had a good car in the Heat Race and I think if we started closer to the front tonight, we could have contended,” the driver of the CJB Motorsports No.5 said.
Kerry Madsen and Logan Schuchart completed the top five with Shane Stewart, whose team was wearing Jason Johnson’s crew uniforms, getting the KSE Hard Charger honors coming from 20th to finish sixth. The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series return to Knoxville Raceway tomorrow night to with the completion of the Brownells Big Guns Bash weekend at the Sprint Car Capital of the World. Jason Solwold Triumphs In Fred Brownfield Classic Prelim
Bryan Hulbert - ELMA, Wash. (June 29, 2018) Capturing his fourth career victory with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Washington's Jason Solwold parked the Northwest Team Excavating/Anderson Motorsports No. 18 to open the Fred Brownfield Classic at Grays Harbor Raceway.
"We had a rough weekend last weekend, so we're trying to rebound a little bit here," stated Solwold.
Battling early in slower traffic with Henry Van Dam, the pair traded slide jobs throughout the seventh lap with Solwold gaining the edge as Seth Bergman rolled into the mix as the caution flew for Wayne Johnson who spun rolling into the fourth turn.
"I got a little nervous because we were so good early. I got stuck behind a lapped car trying to pick my poison and ended up not being very good on the bottom, but we made it through. Tonight, was about track position. We had good draws all night, and I didn't draw that two I can tell you that," chucked Solwold of his second career Brownfield Classic prelim win.
"I've won on Friday night here, but I haven't won both nights yet so hopefully we can pull that off tomorrow night."
Caution on the restart for Jason Reed, the return of the green light saw Solwold steadily pull away from the No. 33v of Van Dam. Contending with Seth Bergman, the runner-up spot remained in the hands of the Enumclaw native until Lap 15 as the leaders worked into slower traffic. Diving the bottom of the third turn, Bergman slid into second and began running down Solwold.
Consistently keeping a pair of lapped cars between himself and the Corridor Electric No. 23, Seth finally got a clear shot with just under four laps to run. Able to pick up some time on Jason, it was not enough as Solwold crossed under the checkered flag with a 1.118-second advantage.
Seth Bergman's 38th career podium finish with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, the driver of the No. 23 has three straight podium appearances in just as many nights. Retaining the National Tour point's lead over Sam Hafertepe, Jr., the driver of the Hills Racing No. 15h rolled through the field from 11th to claim third for his 69th career trip to the podium.
Slipping in traffic back to fourth, Henry Van Dam held on for the final transfer into Saturday's A-Feature event. Finishing one spot shy, Chase Goetz completed the top-five. Garen Linder crossed sixth with Skylar Gee advancing to seventh after starting 15th. Matt Covington followed from 16th with Kyle Miller and Travis Rilat from 17th to complete Friday's top-ten.
The Fred Brownfield Classic resumes on Saturday, June 30 with gates opening at 5:30 P.M. and Opening Ceremonies at 7:00 P.M. (PDT). Tickets are $27 for adults with discounts for Youth, Senior, and Military. Kids six and under are free. Grays Harbor Raceway is located at 43 Elma McCleary Rd. on the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds. SWANSON EQUALS HEWITT AS ALL-TIME SILVER CROWN KING WITH 23RD WIN AT MADISON

Oregon, Wisconsin....June 29, 2018 - History has been a major part of his story for quite a while, but now the record books will forever reflect the fact that Kody Swanson made good on two pieces of USAC Silver Crown history in Friday night's debut at Madison International Speedway.
Swanson won his 23rd career race to tie Jack Hewitt atop the all-time series' victory list. Meanwhile, it was also the Kingsburg, California's fourth-straight Silver Crown victory of the season, becoming the third driver to accomplish the feat and the first since Hewitt in 1986.
These are stats that the humble Swanson doesn't take for granted and is quick to spread the credit around to the teams who've helped him along the way from the first one to number 23: Six-R Racing, the team whose car he piloted to his first back in 2010 and the ride in which Kody has become synonymous with - the DePalma Motorsports/Radio Hospital - Hampshire Racing Engines/Beast/Hampshire Chevy - that he raced to victory lane at the Bytec "Dairyland 100" for the 23rd win of his career.
"I'm just extremely grateful," Swanson said. "There's 23, but I've done zero of them alone. That's how I feel about it. It takes a team, it takes a family and it takes support from people no one will ever see. I've been fortunate that 23 times those great people have carried me to victory lane. Racing's as big of a team sport as any. It's like a relay race and I get the baton last. This team puts in the work and deserves to win races. I take pride in being a part of that."
Though USAC's National Sprint and Midget divisions had made a smattering of visits over the years to the track, this was the first visit for the Silver Crown cars, putting everyone on mostly equal footing entering the gates of the half-mile paved oval.
"I put more into coming to Madison because it's such an opportunity to have a clean slate," Swanson explained. "No one's got any more laps than me. No one's got any more notes than me. You get a chance to go out and be the first one to get it done. But I was not getting it done early on. I didn't have the car handling very good. That's on me. These guys never quit on me. They jumped through hoops for me. We changed four springs during practice and changed another one before qualifying. We changed the left rear tire because I didn't think we were going to be good enough."
Despite the slight pessimism early on, Swanson sped to the lead from his outside front row starting spot, securing the lead from pole sitter Justin Grant by the time the two hit turn three on the opening lap.
Grant wasn't content to play it conservatively and let Kody ride into the Badger State sunset. Grant remained within arm's reach of Swanson, and on lap six, used an inside move to snare the lead away from Swanson at the stripe where he would remain for the ensuing 41 circuits.

Swanson had remained within five car lengths of Grant as the front runners began to encounter lapped traffic just prior to midway. Grant encountered the lapped car of leading series Rookie contender Travis Welpott and tried to race past him using the lower groove, but no room was vacant, and Grant's ride got squirrelly off turn two. All the while, Swanson was steadfast up top and smoothly drove by both to capture the lead.
"When racecars that are equal are battling up front, you have to look for opportunities. Lapped cars are opportunities," Swanson dissects. "Lapped cars are opportunities. As a driver, where I can help this team is being the best prepared I can be ahead of time to capitalize on those opportunities. I saw he was going to choose low, so we chose high. It's hard to know exactly where they're going to go, but it's your job to know the drivers you're racing against. You got to have that feeling, that instinct, that it was time to sail it around the top."
"I got lucky (Justin) got pinned in and I was close enough to capitalize and get alongside of him so that he couldn't change lanes and occupy the space," Swanson continued. "He's someone I love racing against because he races me clean every time. At that point, you're committed and it's your job to see it to the end. I was fortunate to have a good handling car through the middle to keep it going on a long run."
Once Swanson was clear of Grant, the space between grew incrementally to 1 second, to 1.5, to 2 and ultimately more than 2.5 seconds with 30 laps remaining following a lengthy 60-lap green-flag stint. The construction of the lead would meet the wrecking ball when Toni Breidinger's machine went up in smoke with 14 laps remaining.
That put second-running Santos right on the tail tank of Swanson for the lap 92 restart. Santos was able to mount a furious challenge as he pulled alongside Swanson to the inside on the front straightaway. Swanson was able to flex enough muscle to ward off the challenge into turn one.
With four to go, Kyle Hamilton slowed to bring out the yellow and set up one last restart for a green-white-checkered finish. This time, Swanson never allowed Santos an opportunity to make a move, jetting away to lock up the lead as Santos followed single-file into one.
"I didn't do a good enough job on the first restart," Swanson admitted. "You're not going to beat Bobby Santos very many times. If you give him an opportunity with five to go, you know he's going to be there. I didn't do a great job on that first restart. I maybe brought the pace down too slow and I spun the tires. When it stood up, I slid out, and I drove it all the way down there into turn one and plumb missed the corner. I just got lucky that he couldn't carve it good enough to get by me, just back to me, and I had another opportunity to do a better job in turn three than I did in turn one. I surely wouldn't make the same mistake twice, so I got in hard to make sure he couldn't get a run, got on the brakes well to hit the bottom and do it like I was supposed to. On the second restart, I didn't do it perfect, but I got it a little better and was able to bring it home."
It was game, set, match as Swanson went on to stamp his place alongside and atop the USAC record books with a victory margin of seven tenths over Santos, Grant, a career-best finish for Jim Anderson in fourth and Chris Windom rounding out the top-five.

BECHTELSVILLE, PA (June 28, 2018) - Hot off his first ever win at the Grandview Speedway last August, Freddie Rahmer, Jr. of Salfordville, PA is returning to the "Hill" next Tuesday night, July 3 to defend his $5,000 victory. But Tuesday night, the stakes are higher with $7,000 going to the winner of the 35-lap 410 Sprint Pennsylvania Speed Week Series main event.
This exciting doubleheader event is part of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series and is presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings. Joining the 410 Sprints will be the popular NASCAR 358 Modifieds competing in qualifying events leading up to the $3,000 to win 30 lap feature that is a NASCAR point race. Gates open at 5 PM with race time set for 7:30 PM.
Advance tickets are on sale now and may be ordered by calling 443-513-4456. Please provide your name and the number of tickets requested. Tickets may be picked up and paid for on race night after 4:00 PM. Advance ticket holders may enter the grandstands at 4:30 PM, one-half hour before the sale of General Admission tickets. Advance tickets will be available until 9 AM on race day. General Admission tickets go on sale at 5 PM.
In last year's July event, NASCAR driver Kyle Larson made a rare dirt track appearance, his first visit to Grandview Speedway and came home the winner to the delight of the crowd.
For July 3, Freddie Rahmer Jr will have his hands full with challenges Greg Hodnett, Danny "Double D" Dietrich, Ryan Smith, Alan Krimes, Brandon Rahmer, JJ Grasso, Lucas Wolfe, Brock Zearfoss and Ryan Taylor to name a few.
The Grandview Speed Week event features a 35-lap Sprint Car A-Main -- the fifth race of a ten-race stretch for the winged warriors. Drivers from across the region will compete for a $7,000 winner's share. Tenth place will pay $1,050 with $400 to start the A-main. Non-qualified cars will be rewarded with $125.
Time Trials for the 410 Sprint Cars will open the show on Tuesday, July 3 at 7:30 PM. The pit gates will open at 2:30 PM and the Grandstands will open at 5:00 PM. Fans can up-close to the drivers and their mighty machines with the Low Down and Dirty Meet and Greet kicking off at 5:00 PM.
General Admission Adult tickets are $28, Children ages 6-11 are $10, and Under 6 is Free of charge! Pit admission is $35, and no license is required.
Fans may camp out at the Speedway for the ultimate Speed Week experience. Campers are asked to park in the turn 4 parking area, there are no hook-ups available, and no box camping allowed. Track officials ask that all fires be contained. There is no fee for camping.
