BACON BURSTS TO VICTORY IN GRANDVIEW EASTERN STORM OPENER

Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania....June 14, 2018 - Brady Bacon seems to have a flair for the dramatics every time he arrives at Grandview Speedway.
For the second-straight year, the two-time USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car champ ran down the race leader on lap 38 of 40. Last year, C.J. Leary was the victim. This time, the target was Kevin Thomas, Jr., one of the hottest sprint car drivers in America at the moment. No small task to tackle by any means.
Akin to a buzzer beater at the end of a stick and ball sport, Bacon saved his most memorable shot for the end, staying loyal to his guns on the bottom of the one-third mile dirt oval to win Thursday night's "Eastern Storm" opener for the second consecutive year.
Late-race heroics are always a joy to witness from the grandstand. And it's certainly a joy to the one witnessing it through his own helmet visor as the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma native did - and he wouldn't prefer it any other way.
"It actually makes it little more special," Bacon said regarding the late-race pass for the lead. "It doesn't sound that great if you start on the pole, lead every lap and win the race without any challenges. That's an easy payday, but it gets your adrenaline pumping a little bit with the ups and downs. When you think you're going to run second, but then you find something, get excited and make that finishing move that gets you to the lead and the win at the end. That gets your adrenaline pumping and makes it a little sweeter, especially when you beat someone as good as they are right now."
As exciting as it was, perhaps it was more meaningful in the race that it came in. One year ago, Bacon's Grandview victory was the first for the Dooling/Hayward Motorsports No. 63 team since the passing of Bryan Clauson. Yet, the race also carries the name of 2009 Grandview winner, Jesse Hockett. Someone who Bacon felt a kinship with as they raced sprint cars together from coast-to-coast.
"I was really close with Jesse," Bacon remembers. "We had similar career paths. We ran a lot of non-wing, wing and 360 races together and became really good friends there when he had his accident. It's definitely special to win anything with his name attached to it."
Bacon started on the pole for the first of four 40-lap features on the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car calendar this season. Despite a track rework prior to the feature, the 2014 Eastern Storm champ wasn't deterred from his plans set-up-wise on the Brady Bacon Racing/Imperial Wagyu Beef - Fatheadz Eyewear - Tel-Star/Triple X/Rider Chevy.
"We set it up pretty much the way we had it before the track prep because we knew it was going to go away," Bacon recalls. "It actually lasted a lot longer than we thought. It definitely made for some good racing as it stayed faster and not quite so slow and slick at the end. Once it started cleaning off, we got to where we could move around the track a bit. Fortunately, I had a car good enough regardless of what it threw at us."

However, the early-going was all Chad Boespflug as he pounced to the lead on the opening lap from the outside of the front row. Boespflug cut a rug in the middle lane to lead the first 12 circuits with Bacon staged a lane lower on the bottom rail a car length back.
By the 13th lap, the leaders were working to put a lap on the tail end of the field. As Boespflug drifted high to get around the lapped car of Carmen Perigo, Bacon stayed glued to the bottom, which paid off handsomely as he followed Perigo off turn four, then shot to the right-side pocket in front of Boespflug to grab a solid lead at the stripe.
Following a Justin Grant flip on the 16th lap, Thomas repeatedly wreaked havoc with Bacon's lead up front, painting the outside wall with a pallet of brown dirt as he buzzed the outside of turn two on the 23rd lap, a move that very nearly paid off.
Thomas would apply layers of pressure on Bacon until lap 30 when he saw the door to the outside of Bacon swing wide open off turn two. Thomas took the welcome mat and slammed the door on Bacon, cutting down to the inside rail to steal Bacon's line heading into the third turn.
The race appeared to be over. The race was in the refrigerator, the door was closed, the lights were out, the butter was getting hard, the eggs were cooling, and the Jell-O was jigglin', to steal a line from Chick Hearn.
But, no! Thomas re-opened the door for Bacon with three laps remaining, drifting off the bottom to the middle of the track, allowing Bacon to scoot by on the bottom for the lead off turn four. Bacon dead-bolted the door and boarded it up with 2x4s on the final two circuits to secure his $6000 winner's share ahead of Thomas, Chris Windom, KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Tyler Courtney and fast qualifier Jarett Andretti.
With the victory, Bacon moves into the top-25 on the all-time USAC National Sprint Car win list to equal Greg Weld and, ironically, Kevin Thomas, Jr.
"He was in a better position than me when he was behind me because he could move around and try some stuff," Bacon explained. "I was stuck to the bottom unless someone proved me otherwise. (Thomas) got by me and he was actually pulling away a little bit. I moved around and found some stuff. We had our car set up pretty tight for the end of the race and once the track cleaned up and we got our tires hot, I moved up a little bit in three and four. When you're running second, there's nothing left to lose."

Swindell Triumphs With Lucas Oil ASCS In First Creek County Speedway Visit
Bryan Hulbert - SAPULPA, Okla. (June 14, 2018) It's not often that a there is a track that Sammy Swindell has not raced at, but Thursday night was indeed the case at Creek County Speedway. That, of course, didn't slow the wily veteran down as Sammy picked up his second victory of the season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com.
"You had to get on the wheel to race this place. We were lucky enough we had a good car that we could run a bunch of different lines, but I was worried there at the end getting on those lapped cars. They were all running together, and it seems like this week I've been on the wrong end, but tonight, I was on the right end.
Caution on Lap 1, the red followed on the restart as Alex Hill went flipping wildly down the front straightaway after contact with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. who had a run on the No. 77x exiting the fourth turn. Alex was unharmed, and the race resumed with Swindell in the runner-up spot to Scott Bogucki.
Bounding to the lead on Lap 2 with a high line pass on the Sawblade.com No. 28 off the fourth turn, Sammy shut down any move on the bottom through turns one and two to begin pulling away down the back straightaway.
Able to continue after the earlier contact from Alex Hill, the No. 15h of Sam Hafertepe, Jr. worked to second following a Lap 4 restart to begin hunting Sammy Swindell.
Taking the high line to build momentum, Hafertepe and Swindell began trading slide jobs at both ends of the quarter-mile oval. Across and under through several laps, Swindell was able to edge Hafertepe for the lead. Finally getting the advantage on Lap 11, Hafertepe's lead was short-lived. Swapping lines, Sammy was able the force Hafertepe on the brakes as the pair worked to the half-way point.
"I knew I was getting too slow off the bottom when he slid me, so I just had to go to the top and hustle the car," commented Swindell of the race with Hafertepe. "I'm just grateful for all the fans out here and truly blessed to be here. Another new track and I'm undefeated."
Into traffic shortly after, Sammy steadily pulled away.
Bottled up by slower traffic in the final five laps, it was not enough to allow Hafertepe a chance at the lead. Crossing 2.244 seconds to the good, Sammy Swindell was chased to the line by Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Entering the night 15 points ahead of Seth Bergman in the championship chase, Hafertepe left Creek County Speedway with a 35-point advantage over Blake Hahn, who claimed the show positions on the final lap over Scott Bogucki. Crossing in fifth was Roger Crockett.
Oklahoma's Alex Sewell moved from 12th to sixth with Chris Martin posting another strong finish in seventh. Dropping to third in tour standings, Seth Bergman had to dig his way from 14th to eighth. Kyle Bellm in ninth was followed by 15th starting, Travis Rilat, in 10th.
Through five rounds of the 2018 ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek, the final night of competition is Saturday, June 16 at Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan. Racing gets underway at 8:00 P.M. DADS TO BE HONORED AT WALL STADIUM AUTO RACES THIS SATURDAY (JUNE 16)
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ The Pete and Elda's Bar/Carmen's Pizzeria Modified stock cars in a 40-lap feature take center stage at Wall Stadium Speedway this Saturday night (June 16) as the shore speedway presents six divisions of stock car racing and honors fathers. Grandstands will open for this All American Auto Group Racing Series card at 5:00 p.m., qualifying is set for 5:45 p.m. with main events for all divisions starting at approximately 7:00 p.m.
On the speedway the Modified stock cars will compete in a 40-lap main event. Early season standouts Jimmy Blewett of Howell, Andrew Krause of Holmdel, Steven Reed of Jackson and Eric Mauriello will lead the way. Chas Okerson of Freehold, brothers Trevor and Zack Alspach, both of Willingboro, and Derek Hopkinson of Toms River are also expected to be in the field seeking their first win of the year.
Also in the spotlight will be the Center State Engineering Sportsman cars, the Mike's Performance Center Limited Late Models, the Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars, the Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stocks and the O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stocks. All five divisions are slated for 25-lap feature races.
Pit gates will open at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday; with practice starting at 3:00 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. and qualifying is then set for 5:45 p.m. Main events for all divisions to follow at approximately 7:00 p.m.
Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on Saturdays and Sundays through early-October with special post-season races in October and November. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. Scott Bogucki Breaks Through At The Devil's Bowl With The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series
Bryan Hulbert - MESQUITE, Texas (June 12, 2018) Becoming the fourth Australian to capture a win with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, McLaren Vale's Scott Bogucki captured his first career victory on Tuesday night in the Sawblade.com/Dissolvalloy No. 28 at the Devil's Bowl Speedway.
Bogucki is the 142nd driver to win with the National Tour of the American Sprint Car Series, and 10th different winner of the 2018 season. Scott joins Brooke Tatnell, Ian Madsen, and Jamie Veal on the list of Australian winners.
Holding off Sammy Swindell as the pair raced through slower traffic, Bogucki was like a Shark after his prey to keep the BMRS No. 3 at bay. Bobbling just one time through turns three and four just after the race's half-way point, Swindell mounted a charge but was unable to get by the No. 28 for the lead.
With traffic playing to his favor with five laps to go, Bogucki was able to put some breathing room between himself and Swindell. Clearing the slower cars with two circuits remaining, Sammy closed to within 10 car lengths before the drop of the checkered flag.
Asked what the win meant to Scott, the Brodix Rookie of the Year contender replied, "This is unbelievable. I came over six years ago as a crew guy and I worked for Sammy and as far as I'm concerned, he's as good as they come. To beat him, it makes it even sweeter."
Adding to the story, the first track Scott raced at in the United States was the Devil's Bowl Speedway.
"I came here four years ago and ran one night. Honestly, I never figured I'd get my first win on a half-mile, much less here. We've really struggled here a lot in the past, but this year's we've actually been good, just didn't have a lot of luck, but tonight just went our way."
Swindell in second is the 36th time the wily veteran has finished on the podium with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com. His fourth consecutive trip to the podium this season, Swindell was chased to the line by Blake Hahn. Falling to fourth in the early laps, Hahn was able to get back to the show position with two laps to go.
Challenging for the lead at one point with Swindell and Bogucki, a misstep in traffic relegated Sam Hafertepe, Jr. to fourth with Travis Rilat crossing in fifth.
A rebound performance after struggling as of late, Roger Crockett was sixth with Wayne Johnson in tow. Seth Bergman moved up to eighth after starting 10th with Tony Bruce, Jr. ninth. The night's CP-Carrillo Hard Charger, Oklahoma's Matt Covington made up the top-ten.
With three rounds of the ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek in the books, the series heads for Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla. on Wednesday, June 13. Admission is $20 Seniors with Military and Kids 12-15 admitted for $15. Kids 6-12 are $2. Access to the Pits is $30. The track is located at 3501 SW Sheridan Rd.
