BEAVER DAM, WI – June 24, 2018 – World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series driver Jason Johnson has died from injuries sustained in an accident at Beaver Dam Raceway on Saturday, June 23, 2018.
During Lap 18 of the Jim Boyd Memorial at Beaver Dam Raceway, Johnson was involved in a crash battling for the lead on the backstretch of the third-mile oval. Emergency crews quickly attended to the situation and transported Johnson via air to Aurora Medical Center, where he later succumbed to the injuries.
Johnson, 41, of Eunice, LA, is survived by his wife Bobbi and five-year-old son Jaxx.
The Johnson family has conveyed their appreciation of the prayers and support expressed by the racing community and requests their privacy be respected at this time. Additional information will be made when available and appropriate.

Cole Duncan claims inaugural Rick Ferkel Classic title; Paul McMahan earns Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by C&R Racing championship
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (June 23, 2018) - An emotional victory to say the least, Lockbourne, Ohio’s Cole Duncan smoked the field on Saturday night at Atomic Speedway, not only capping off Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by C&R Racing with a trip to victory lane, but honoring his life-long racing hero in the process by claiming the inaugural Rick Ferkel Classic worth $10,000.
Starting from the pole position by way of dash victory, Duncan led all 35 circuits on Saturday night at the Atomic highbanks, keeping the “Buckeye Bullet” Dave Blaney and Lemoore, California’s Carson Macedo at bay. The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victory bumped his career win total to four with the Series, his second in Chillicothe.
“I just went over and told Rick (Ferkel) he is one of my all-time heroes,” a teary-eyed Cole Duncan said in victory lane. “To earn this, the inaugural Rick Ferkel Classic win, there are no words. To do this at my home track, in front of all of these great fans, with my family and friends here, means so much to me.”
Duncan was able to run away from the field right from the drop of the green flag, leading defending All Star champion Chad Kemenah, and fellow Ohio native Dave Blaney, by the flagstand for the first time. By lap eight, Duncan was already in traffic, eventually allowing Blaney to chip away at his advantage with Carson Macedo in tow. Although intense during certain segments of the main event, Duncan maneuvered through the lapped cars well, always keeping at least a pair between himself and Blaney.
The main event’s first and only caution appeared on lap 30 giving Blaney an opportunity to restart on the back bumper of Duncan. Blaney’s restart attempt was good, but not good enough, unable to work by the familiar No. 22. Duncan went on the score the five-figure payday; certainly the most sentimental victory of this young career.
“Being the leader, you never really know how far out ahead you are. I felt really good, so I felt really confident the entire race,” Cole Duncan continued. “It started to lay some rubber down in certain spots, especially in the exit of the corners. You can race anywhere you want, but you have to make sure you are in the rubber when you exit the corners. It made lapped traffic a little difficult, but we were really good in traffic. I was just praying the tires would stay under me. It all worked out.”
Cole Duncan won the battle, but Paul McMahan won the war, claiming the 36th Annual Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by C&R Racing championship worth $3,000. McMahan’s Ohio Sprint Speedweek campaign included one victory - the Speedweek opener at Attica Raceway Park - as well as a grand total of six top-ten finishes in seven starts. Four of McMahan’s top-ten finishes were inside the top-five. The Speedweek title was the first of McMahan’s storied career.
“People had me written off a few years back, so to come back and do this is pretty special,” Paul McMahan said while celebrating his Speedweek title with crew. “We only won one race this week, but this goes to show that consistency wins championships. To clinch this title during Rick Ferkel’s race makes things even more special. I had the opportunity to race for Rick at one point. He is someone I have always looked up to. I’m glad to be here.”
Atomic Speedway/Speedweek Night #6 Rescheduled Feature Report:
The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 kicked-off the evening program at Atomic Speedway by running the Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by C&R Racing night six feature that was originally scheduled for Wednesday evening, June 20. Mother Nature invaded Chillicothe just as feature cars were beginning to be pushed out onto the speedway. A heavy downpour forced officials to postpone the event until Saturday.
Utilizing patience to power himself to a 35th-career All Star Circuit of Champions triumph, Alvada, Ohio’s Chad Kemenah was the first to visit victory lane on Saturday evening at Atomic Speedway, leading all 30 circuits during the Wednesday make-up feature to clinch his first All Star victory since winning the 2018 Series opener in Ocala, Florida.
The driver of the Hunter Racing/DKW Transport/Seneca Energy/Bonnell’s Rod Shop/No. 10H earned the top spot right from the drop of the green flag, powering ahead of fellow front row starter, Justin Peck, as the pair raced into turn one for the first time. Although dominate from the start, Kemenah’s trip to victory lane was far from down an easy path. Kemenah was forced to survive six stoppages during the 30-lapper, two of which resulting in red flag conditions.
“My car owner, Rob Hunter, really messed up today; he took the night off and stayed home tonight,” Chad Kemenah laughed in victory lane. “This is really cool. It feels great to get this done. To say our Speedweek has been up and down is an understatement, but this team doesn’t give up. I felt like we got better after that first red. (Brian Kemenah) came out and made some adjustments that really helped out the car. I lost a race on the final lap here to Dave Blaney last year. I’d drive into the fence before I let that happen again.”
Although it was Kemenah in control, it was Ryan Smith and Paul McMahan who were putting on the show, battling almost side-by-side for the runner-up position for a multitude of laps. Continuing to substitute for Max McGhee, Smith secured the runner-up spot for the first time on lap six. McMahan, a two-time winner thus far in 2018 for car owner Tom Buch, powered into third for the first time on lap eight.
The duo exchanged positions four times between laps 16 and 26 beginning with McMahan getting by Smith after a restart on lap 16. Smith returned the favor on lap 21, but it would not last long, as McMahan was able to sneak back by the familiar No. 11 after a restart on lap 22. The caution on lap 22, waved for an upside-down Mitch Harble, was the final stop of the night. It followed a trio of yellow flags during the first half of the main event on laps five, ten, and fourteen, as well as a red flag on lap 18 for Parker Price-Miller who was battling inside the top-five. All drivers involved in all accidents walked away unharmed.
Once green flag action returned following the lap 22 caution, McMahan and Smith’s battle resumed. By lap 26, Smith was all over McMahan again, ultimately powering back around the Nashville native via Elk Grove, Calif., to officially regain second on lap 26. After gaining second for the final time, Smith set his aim for Kemenah, working as hard as he could to match Kemenah’s pace through the middle of the speedway. A late charge would put Smith within a half-second of Kemenah, but time was out. Kemenah held on for the $5,000 payday, followed Ryan Smith, Paul McMahan, Jac Haudenschild, and Cap Henry.

With Ohio Sprint Speedweek in the books, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will continue on down the highway and end the month of June with a pair of stops in the Midwest, first visiting Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind., on Friday, June 29, followed by a stop at the Dirt Oval at Route 66 in Joliet, Ill., on Saturday, June 30. If needed, Plymouth Speedway officials will utilize Sunday, July 1, as a rain date.
MAVTV Motorsports Network will be on hand to capture all of the action from Plymouth Speedway on Friday night. The second-ever All Star program at the northern Indiana oval will be aired on MAVTV later this year. A full broadcast schedule will be released later this summer.

Seth Bergman Wins The 47th Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup

(June 23, 2018) From a young boy watching the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup, to Victory Lane, Washington's Seth Bergman realized a lifelong dream Saturday night by winning the 47th edition of the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by the Skagit Casino Resort with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by www.Sawblade.com.
"I don't know if you could tell from my pre-race interview, I was a little emotional. These are big moments and we put our heart and soul into this. My whole team does. I've dedicated my life to driving a Racecar and it's nice when you can come to big events like this with the big money and the prestige and get it done. It's such a satisfying feeling," said Bergman of the win.
"I remember coming up here as a kid and playing in the grass where those kids are right now. Just having a ball and looking at those Dirt Cup Champions like they were Superheroes and I always dreamed of being one. Never really thought I could turn into reality, but I'm so proud of all these guys."
Earning the right of the front row with Scott Bogucki on the pole, the first two starts were a no go as contact slowed Matt Covington and Johnny Herrera on each attempt. A charm the third time around, Scott Bogucki jumped to the race lead.
Peddling with momentum on the second revolution, the race for the point went to the Corridor Electric No. 23.
Steadily pulling away, Seth found his way into slower traffic by Lap 6. Carefully picking his way around the backmarkers, Bergman worked to a comfortable advantage as Scott Bogucki and Travis Rilat squared off for second. Holding off the BDS Motorsports No. 1, traffic play to the advantage of Bogucki.
Still under green, as the half-way point came and went, Bergman was more than three seconds ahead with over a half-dozen lapped cars between himself and the Sawblade.com No. 28. With a half straightaway over third place, Rilat's position was about to come under fire as 18th starting, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., roared through the field.
Green to checkered after the first two attempts, Seth Bergman who would go unchallenged to the win by 2.841 seconds over Scott Bogucki. Earning the CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. was chased to the checkered flag by Travis Rilat with Logan Forler making up the top-five.
Brock Lemley in sixth was followed by Buddy Kofoid, who bounced back from a violent flip on Friday night. Trey Starks was eighth with J.J. Hickle and Blake Hahn charging out of a B-Feature to round out the top-ten.

RECENT HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE MOHR WINS SUMMER SPLASH 40 SPORTSMAN RACE WHILE STRUNK AND KYLE MERKEL ALSO VISIT VICTORY LANE AT GRANDVIEW SATURDAY NIGHT
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. June 24, 2018 . . . Nathan Mohr, a recent graduate of Upper Perkiomen High School, lost the lead twice during the running of the Summer Splash 40-lap NASCAR Sportsman feature on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway, but through the aid of restarts he jumped back into first. Mohr then proceeded to hold off the hard charges of Gary Wagner until the challenger was sidelined by tire issues, and then with two laps to go Mike Lisowski was on his bumper. Not knowing how really close challenger Lisowski actually was, he held his pace and went on to pull the Mohr-family owned No. 17M into victory lane for his first career win and it was worth $1,500.
The T.P Trailers 30-lap NASCAR Modified feature had its second repeat winner when Jeff Strunk, who recently won on June 9, survived a one-lap shoot out and was able to keep Mike Gular, who is currently at the top of the point race, behind to go on to record his 69th Saturday night career triumph. Gular also chased Strunk across the line during Strunk’s previous win.
Kyle Merkel, who returned to Late Model action a few years ago after being on other racing ventures, led the 25-lap NASCAR Late Model feature from start to finish to park the Dave “Crazy” Yost owned No. 26 mount in the winner’s circle. Merkel had been shut out of the win column since April 20, 2013.
All feature winners received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers and merchandise awards from VP Fuels providing they met the necessary requirements. The Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie recipients were Jack Butler, Sportsman; Bobby Gunther-Walsh, Modified and Merkel, Late Model.
The Saturday night NASCAR events were all part of the Safety Net Animal Sanctuary Fundraiser.
Mohr, starting from the pole position in the Sportsman event, wasted no time keeping Derrick Smith, Andrew Kreis, Kurt Bettler and Mark Kemmerer behind him at the drop of the green by starter Ray Kemp.
By the sixth lap Butler was chasing Mohr down from the runner-up spot.
Butler reeled Mohr in on the eighth lap and took to the outside path coming off the fourth turn and advanced into first.
Behind Butler, who was hoping to pick up his first career win as a birthday present, the battle for second d was a heated one between Mohr and Wagner while Smith, Kreis and Dylan Swinehart vied for the remaining top five spots.
Debris in the fourth turn, plus the stopped car of Ryan Beltz between the first and second turn brought the pack bumper-to-bumper with the first caution on last 18. Butler continued to show the way while Mohr, Wagner, Brian Hirthler and Swinehart continued their paint swapping battles.
Jesse Landis stopped in the fourth turn for the 21st lap yellow. This time Mohr outgunned Butler to regain first and it held with Wagner following through for second with Butler falling to third.
The lead changed again when Wagner moved to the front of the pack on the 24th lap.
Butler’s valiant efforts went up in a puff of smoke when a blown engine ended his night and the final yellow with 26 laps completed.
This time the restart was better than previously and Mohr was back in first.
Despite all the challenges Mohr held his composure and didn’t faltered to go on to claim a hard-fought triumph. Chasing him across the line were Lisowski, Swinehart, Hirthler and Craig Whitmoyer.
Louden Reimert, Mohr and Bettler were the heat winners.
Polesitter Mark Kratz took the early lead in the Modified feature and within no time had a commanding lead built up over Bobby Gunther-Walsh, Chris Esposito, Briggs Danner and Bobby Trapper Jr.
Brett Gilmore slowed along the homestretch to bring out the eighth lap caution. On this restart Gunther-Walsh overtook Kratz to become the new leader.
The ½-way point, the order behind Gunther-Walsh consisted of Esposito, Kratz, Strunk, who started 15th and Danner.
Strunk moved into second on the 19th lap and set sail after Gunther-Walsh who had to deal with lap traffic along with the others.
It didn’t take long for Strunk to erase the margin and by the 22nd lap he was the third different leader.
Coming on strong behind Strunk were Gunther-Walsh, Gular, Umbenhauer and Esposito. Esposito’s night ended when he pulled into the infield with three laps to go.
Umbenhauer, who was running a solid fourth, slowed in the third turn to set-up a one-lap shoot out to the finish that involved Strunk, Gular, Craig Von Dohren, Frank Cozze and Duane Howard, who came through from 28th. Strunk quickly punched the accelerator as he knew his fellow competitors wanted to be in victory lane also.
Strunk kept everyone behind to score the win with Gular, Von Dohren, Cozze and Howard in tow. Walsh, a fan favorite, held on to have his best night of the season finishing sixth.
Heats were won by Kratz, Gunther-Walsh and Clay Butler. Justin Grim won the consi.
Merkel started in the top slot in the 25-lap NASCAR Late Model feature and was off and running at the onset trailed by Steve Todorow, Lou Egrie, Chuck Schutz and Danny Snyder, the current point leader. Trying to into the top five was Drew Weisser and he accomplished that fete on the fifth circuit when he moved into fifth.
A flat tire with two laps to go ended Todorow’s night when he stopped in turn three out of contention. Now Schutz, the defending pint champion, was behind Merkel on the restart but Merkel managed to stay ahead.
No one was able to overtake Merkel and he went on to claim a well-deserved win. Finishing second was Schutz followed by Egrie, Snyder and Weisser.
Sprint car racing will be part of the big four division show of racing presented by Bechtelsville Car Wash on Saturday, June 30th at NASCAR sanctioned Grandview Speedway. The Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) 305 Sprinters will be making their first appearance of the season on the one-third-mile, banked clay oval with racing action getting the green flag at 7:30 p.m.
The battle for the NASCAR T.P.Trailers 358 Modified championship will continue with point leader Mike Gular leading the action. Sportsman stock cars and Blast from the Past Vintage cars will make up the balance of the exciting night of racing action.
And on Tuesday, July 3rd the Thunder on the Hill Series, a co-promotion between Bob Miller and the Rogers Family, will offer the 410 Pennsylvania Sprint Speed Week Series plus the 358 Modifieds. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m

WALL STADIUM RACES RAINED OUT SATURDAY, JUNE 23
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Light morning rain and a forecast that promised more rain throughout the day forced Wall Stadium Speedway officials to rain out the auto racing events planned for Saturday night, June 23.
All American Auto Group Racing Series action returns this Saturday night, June 30, with “Red, White and Blue BBQ Night” to celebrate the Independence Day holiday. The Pete and Elda's Bar/Carmen's Pizzeria Modifieds will be headlining in a 40-lap main event, while the Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder stocks race in a 50-lapper and both Center State Engineering Sportsman cars and the Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars have 25-lappers planned. Pit gates will open at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday; with practice starting at 3:00 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m., qualifying is then set for 5:45 p.m. with main events for all divisions to follow.
Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on Saturdays through early October with special post-season races in October and November. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B.
