SHORT STORY
MIKE KELLNER WINS SECOND LATE MODEL FEATURE OF THE SEASON, RAIN WASHES OUT TWO FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA May 6, 2012 . . . Before the rains came wiping out the final two racing features ( NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Sportsman) Mike Kellner was able to wheel his own PowerWashers/Mary Kay No. 57 to victory in the 20-lap Mobil 1 Late Model feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night.
The NASCAR 358 Modifieds were coming out for their 30-lap feature when an unexpected rain started to fall. Officials tried waiting for the rain to stop but after at least a 30-minute wait the balance of the show was postponed.
This Saturday night, May 12th, the NASCAR 358 Modified feature that was rained out will be the first event on the track followed by a full show of NASCAR 358 Modifieds, Late Models and Sportsman all sponsored by Whelen Engineering. The rained out Sportsman feature will open the show on Saturday, May 19th as part of BPG Racing Night.
Doug Walton was the early leader in the 20-lapper for Late Models with Mike Kellner charging to the front on the sixth circuit
Chuck Schutz spun in the first turn with six laps completed but was able to continue. The five time champion was able to finish eighth in the feature race.
At the 10 lap marker Kellner and Ron Kline had quite a battle going on and for the next few laps swap positions back and forth. However on the 14th lap Kellner took charge and held on to the top spot right to the checkered flag picking up $900 for his second win of the season. The winnings included a $100 bonus from TP Trailers of Limerick.
Second spot went to Kline followed by Sean Merkel, Andy Ressler and Danny Snyder.

MIKE KELLNER WINS LATE MODEL FEATURE AT GRANDVIEW, RAIN WINS THE 358 MODIFIED AND SPORTSMAN FEATURES
BECHTELSVILLE, PA May 6, 2012 . . . Young Mike Kellner was able to beat the stellar field of Late Model racers in the 20-lap Mobil 1 feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night but rain beat the rest of the feature racing events
An unexpected rain shower started to fall as the NASCAR 358 Modifieds were lining up for the start of their 30 lap feature. Promoter Bruce Rogers kept the cars running on the track hoping to keep the clay track intact but finally the rain proved to win out and the scheduled Modified and Sportsman features had to be postponed.
The rained out 30-lap 358 Modified feature will now kick off the Saturday, May 12th Whelen Engineering sponsored night of racing which will also include a full show of Modifieds, Late Models and Sportsman stock car racing. The Sportsman feature that was rained out will open the BPG Racing Night on Saturday, May 19th before a full show of Modifieds, Late Models and Sportsman racing is presented.
Doug Walton was quick to put his racer in front of the starting field in the 20-lap Late Model feature race with Dave Ogin right on his rear. After six laps Mike Kellner, coming from fifth starting spot, took the top spot from Walton with Andy Ressler and two feature winner Ron Kline chasing.
Current Late Model point leader Chuck Schutz spun going into the first turn catching an infield tire marker bringing out the caution. Despite the “wrestling match” with the tire Schutz was able to continue restarting at the rear of the field and coming on to finish eighth.
At the midway point of the feature Kellner had Ron Kline right on the rear of his PowerWasher/Mary Kay No. 57.
For a few laps Kellner and Kline entertained the fans swapping positions back and forth on a track that proved to be super smooth and lightning fast.
At the 14 lap marker Lansdale based Kellner took complete control and set the pace for the balance of the 20-lap feature holding a comfortable lead at the finish. Ron Kline (Salford) came home second after having to hold off several challenges from third place finisher Sean Merkel (Gilbertsville). Andy Ressler (Macungie) had a strong effort, challenging for the lead early, and finishing fourth while Danny Snyder (Green Lane) came from 16th to finish fifth.
The strong effort by Snyder earned him the Salvage Transport Service Hard Charger award.
Kellner picked up the Dan’s Deli Halfway Leader award and two dinners courtesy of the Texas Roadhouse Restaurant in Trexlertown, PA. In addition Kellner earned an extra $100 for carrying the T.P. Trailers of Limerick decals clearly visible on his race car.
Cargo Trailer Sales of Lansdale presented a $50 gift certificate to Steve Nederostek.
Qualifying heat races for the Late Models, each eight laps, were won by Wayne Pfeil Jr. and Andy Ressler.
Sportsman qualifiers, each eight laps, went to Bobby Lilick, John Horvath IV and Corey Sechrist.
Twelve lap heats for the NASCAR 358 Modifieds were won by Duane Howard (coming from last), Doug Man miller (coming from last), Tommy Scheetz Jr. and Jon Kellner Jr. Two consolation races for the Modifieds, each 10 laps, were won by Chris Esposito and Meme DeSantis.
Racing action returns to the one-third-mile, banked clay oval at Grandview Speedway on Saturday, May 12th, 7:30 p.m. with the rained out 358 Modified feature followed by a tripleheader show of NASCAR 358 Modifieds, Late Models and Sportsman sponsored by Whelen Engineering. Modifieds run in a 30 lap feature while Late Models and Sportsman top their night with 20 lap features. Adult admission is just $15 while youngsters 12 and under are admitted FREE.
