ATTICA, Ohio – For the first time in 2014, the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series regulars did not finish in the top three. Friday night at Attica Raceway Park Ohio drivers swept the podium on Kistler Engines Classic Night.

Hartford, Ohio’s Dale “The Low Rider” Blaney took the lead from Dean Jacobs on lap 30 and went on to score his third victory of the season at “Ohio’s Finest Racing” speedplant. The victory against the Outlaws is Blaney’s 20th career win at Attica, tying him for third on the track’s all-time win list. Blaney joins Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz as the only drivers to win two World of Outlaws features at Attica.

Defending Attica track champion Craig Mintz would storm from his 13th starting position to finish second while Dean Jacobs, a former Attica track champion who led the first 29 laps, would round out the all-Ohio podium.

“The first five or six laps I thought we were going to be terrible,” said Blaney beside his Tony Kennedy owned machine. “It got better and better as it went. Hats off to Tony Kennedy and George (Fisher) and Donnie and Skippy…they’ve been working hard. We’ve had a great start to the year. Hopefully we can continue it through the summer.”

“Pretty cool to see Craig and Dean up here too. I saw the 09 in third and I know how good he is here. I was happy to see the 97 in second with three to go because I know he (Craig) came from a long way back. For us three to be up here is pretty cool,” added Blaney beside his Kennedy Cattle/Ti22 Performance/Penske Shocks/GF1 Chassis backed #14k. “We’ve had a lot of success here. We’ve been here three times and won all three.”

For Mintz, it seems whenever Blaney is in town for a big show, he runs second. This time it was against the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series drivers as well and his runner-up finish garnered him an additional $500 as the highest placing Attica regular.

“We came here to put on a great show for the fans. Dale was strong. I knew it was going to be tough to get in front of him. We got past the 97 (Jacobs). GF1’s ran pretty good tonight,” said Mintz beside his Real Geese Decoys/Damschroder Roofing/KS Sales and Service/Design Graphics Group backed machine.

“When you run with Dale Blaney and Tim Shaffer and them guys every week it makes you step up your game and it makes you get better,” added Mintz. “We’ve heard a lot of it from the PA Posse but it’s nice to put all Ohio guys on the front stretch.”

For Dean Jacobs late race cautions kept him from winning his second career World of Outlaws feature.

“From what they tell me I just didn’t need the caution flags. I had a pretty good lead from what it sounds like. Everybody was fast. I got up to Chad Kemenah to lap him and he was going pretty fast and was running the same part of the track I was running,” said Jacobs beside his Joe and Diane Seeling owned machine.

“There’s no shame to running behind these two guys. These two guys on a track like this are really fast. They have their program going. It shows you that the local competition is pretty tough around here. I was really shock to see Craig pass me on the high side…that’s not him but he did an awesome job tonight,” said Jacobs about his Northwest Ohio Towing and Recovery/NAPA Truck Center/Blue Beacon/Kistler Engines backed #97.

In the Summit Racing Equipment UMP Late Models, Mansfield, Ohio’s Rocky Owens took the lead on lap three and pulled away for his first career Attica win.

“This means a lot,” said an emotional Owens. “My dad…he does a great job with this car. I can’t thank him and Doug Heath enough. Without them two I probably would be sitting at home right now. There’s no sponsors on this thing. It’s just my dad and Doug and a couple of friends help us out here and there. I’m very fortunate to be able to do this let alone stand here at my favorite race track.”

In the 40-lap Kistler Engines Classic, Jacobs and Joey Saldana would bring the field to the green but Travis Philo and Cap Henry would get together in turn three with both flipping. Both drivers were okay but done for the night. On the second attempt at a green Jacobs would rocket off the bottom to take the lead over Saldana, Cody Darrah, Brad Sweet, Kerry Madsen and Blaney.

Jacobs would pull away from Saldana as Darrah, and Madsen battled for third. Behind them a torrid battle was taking place between Sweet, Daryn Pittman and Blaney. Caleb Griffith would spin on lap six to bring out the caution, wiping out a big lead by Jacobs. When the green flew again so did Jacobs while Saldana had his hands full with Madsen with Darrah, Sweet and Blaney continuing their entertaining battle for fourth.

Jacobs was on a rail as he continued to build his lead over Saldana before catching the rear of the field by lap 19. Meanwhile Saldana, Madsen and Blaney were battling for second. Blaney executed a terrific move, splitting both Madsen and Saldana on lap 25 to grab second and immediately closed on Jacobs. Using the middle of the track in turns one and two while the rest of the field was glued to the bottom, Blaney drove around Jacobs into the lead on lap 30.

Meanwhile Mintz had quietly moved into the top five and when Madsen spun with 10 laps remaining, Mintz sat third. On the ensuing restart Darrah would get upside down in turn three, collecting Brian Lay. When the green flew again so did Blaney on the single-file restart as Mintz applied pressure to Jacobs with Sweet, Greg Wilson, Pittman and Donny Schatz, who started 23rd, in pursuit.

Blaney continued to pull away as the laps ticked off with Mintz driving around Jacobs to take second with two circuits to go. Mintz ran out of laps to catch Blaney as the Low Rider stormed to the victory. Mintz, Jacobs, Sweet and Schatz would round out the top five.

In the 25-lap late models feature Larry Kingseed and Owens brought the field to the green, but Bob Mayer would spin. On the next attempt at a start Brad Malcuit coasted to a stop. The third time was the charm as Kingseed grabbed the lead over Owens, Ryan Markham, Ky Harper and Matt Irey. Owens would drive under Kingseed for the lead on lap three just as the caution flew for a Brandon Perkins spin.

When the green reappeared Owens pulled away from Kingseed while Markham, Harper, Irey and Rusty Schlenk were locked in a tremendous battle for third. Markham grabbed the runner-up spot on lap seven but could not close on Owens until the caution flew on lap 10 for Harper. On the ensuing restart Markham stormed to Owens’ outside but could not make the pass. Meanwhile Schlenk had moved into third and was closing on the top duo.

With the green staying out the final 15 laps, Owens was glued to the bottom and pulled away while the battle behind him was fantastic between Markham, Schlenk, Kingseed, Irey and Jeff Babcock. Schlenk would finally take the second spot on lap 21 but Markham and Irey continued to hound him.

Owens would cruise to the win over Schlenk, Irey, Markham and Babcock.

Attica Raceway Park will be back in action Friday, June 6th on Croghan Colonial Bank/All Pro Aluminum Heads Night. The O’Reilly Auto Parts 410 Sprints will be in competition on a Kistler Racing Products FAST (Fremont Attica Sprint Title) Championship Series points night. The Foster Auto Body 305 Sprints and Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks will also be on the racing card.

ATTICA, Ohio – Dale Blaney rewarded his new car owner with a $10,000 victory Saturday to open Attica Raceway Park’s 2014 season. “The Low Rider” led all 40 laps of the HD Supply/Construction Equipment and Supply Spring Nationals to score his 100th career University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions win.

It wasn’t easy for Blaney, as reminiscent of the 2012 Spring Nationals when he and Craig Mintz put on an exciting show for the two nights, Mintz again challenged Blaney late. But, Blaney came alive the final seven circuits to score the win aboard his Tony Kennedy owned #14h. The victory is Blaney’s 18th career win at Attica of which 14 have been UNOH All Star triumphs.

“Thanks to George (Fisher) he does all the work on this thing. I’m awful happy to get number 100 with Tony…our first win together. To make it 100 and to make it here at this race is pretty special. I love this place. Western Ohio has been very good to me,” said Blaney beside his Ti22 Performance/Penske Shocks, Kennedy Cattle Company backed machine.

“We were really good on the short runs. I really wasn’t that great after about 10 laps. I kind of got stuck behind Sebetto (Bryan) and he and Chris Bell were racing. I saw the 09 beside me in one and two and I knew where he was running at so I just picked the pace up a little bit and was really, really fortunate to go down into three and Chris Bell moved to the middle and it left me with the bottom and after that I was running like a scared dog. Craig (Mintz) runs really good here so to get that one is cool,” added Blaney, a four time and defending UNOH All Star champion.

“I think Dale was kind of just pacing himself. When he picked up the pace I didn’t have anything for him. I burned everything up trying to catch him,” said Mintz beside his Real Geese Decoys/Erie Shore Propane/KS Sales and Service backed #09. “That’s why he has 100 victories because he got through that lapped traffic a little bit better than we did.”

Four time UNOH All Star champion Tim Shaffer would continue his early season strong runs with a third place finish in the Bryan Grove #45.

“Hats off to Bryan Grove, James Chambers and everyone that’s helping us. When you have everybody behind you 100 percent….it’s showing. We missed it a little bit in the feature but we’re in it every night,” said Shaffer beside his Canton Erectors backed machine.

In the Summit Racing Equipment UMP Late Model main Ashland, Ohio’s Ryan Markham held off several challenges from Rusty Schlenk and Chris Keller to score his second career Attica victory.

“I wanted to get into lapped traffic and kind of weasel my way through there. I think my car was pretty good on the bottom but I wanted to keep it up top to keep an eye on them on my inside,” said Markham beside his H & T Demolitions/Fultz Fabrications/Accu-Force Shocks/Innovative Graphics backed #5m.

“When you’re up there flirting with that cushion you don’t want to push it too hard but when a guy shows you his nose you have to give it everything you got. That was a pretty good race…two and three wide. My wife is going to be mad…it was too cold for her to come,” joked Markham.

John Ivy made a daring move late in the 25 lap Foster’s Auto Body 305 Sprint feature, splitting two lapped cars in turn one while holding off Jordan Ryan. Ivy would lead all 25 laps to score his 12th career Attica 305 sprint win.

“That was the only way I was going to win it. I saw him sticking his nose and I said ‘man I have to go for this one.’ It helps to start up front. I have to thank Joey, my brother, Sony…Big Kenny and Karen and everyone involved in this,” said Ivy beside his Nagy Equipment Sales/Fremont Fence/Little Bar on the Prairie/B&L Heating and Air Conditioning/Kistler Engines/Big D’s Pizza #8i

In the 40-lap UNOH All Star feature Blaney and Andrew Palker would bring the field to the green with Blaney gaining the advantage. Palker would run comfortably in second with Shaffer, Danny Holtgraver, Duane Zablocki and Mintz in tow. Mintz would move into fifth on lap five and would take fourth on lap 8 as the leaders raced into lapped traffic.

Blaney continued to lead unchallenged with Palker, Shaffer, Mintz, Holtgraver, Zablocki and Dean Jacobs in pursuit. Mintz grabbed third on lap 10 as the race’s only caution flew for Brandon Wimmer who stopped on the track. With a clear track, Blaney would drive away from the field as Palker now had his hands full with Mintz. Mintz drove into the runner-up spot on lap 13 with Palker, Shaffer, Holtgraver, Jacobs and Chad Kemenah in tow.

The leaders would hit lapped traffic again on lap 19 allowing Mintz to close the gap on Blaney. Palker, Shaffer and Holtgraver were also battling hard for third with Shaffer gaining the position on lap 22. The only change in the top five over the next few laps saw Holtgraver and Jacobs get around Palker.

With seven laps to go, Blaney was in heavy lapped traffic and Mintz closed quickly. On lap 34 Mintz drove to Blaney’s outside in turns one and two, but Blaney was able to hold him off and then picked up the pace to pull away fro the win. Mintz, Shaffer, Holtgraver and Jacobs – who flipped hard in his heat race – would round out the top five.

Cody Scott and Markham brought the field to the green in the 25-lap late model main with Markham taking the lead while Schlenk drove into second while Chris Keller, Scott and Matt Irey gave chase. With just four laps in, Schlenk continually challenged Markham for the lead, driving to his inside lap after lap. As the leaders hit lapped traffic on lap 7, Keller now joined the fun.

The caution flew on lap 7 for a Jeremy Canada and Josh Haynes tangle. On the restart Haynes would get into Doug Baird, necessitating another restart. Markham would get an excellent jump when the green flew as Schlenk had his hands full with Keller while Irey, Dona Marcoullier, Scott and Eric Spangler gave chase. A Canada spin on lap nine stopped the tremendous battle up front. But when the green reappeared, so did the fight for the lead with Markham, Schlenk, Keller and now Marcoullier.

The side-by-side and often times three-wide battle up front continued as the leaders raced into traffic again by lap 16. Keller would take second a circuit later and immediately drove to Markham’s inside. But, the caution would fly one final time on lap 18 when Jeff Babcock tangled with the lapped machine of Baird.

When the green flew again, Keller dove to Markham’s inside but couldn’t make the pass as Schlenk again joined the battle. But, with three laps to go Markham began to pull away slightly and went on to score the victory. Schlenk would rebound for second followed by Keller, Marcoullier and Irey.

John Ivy and Bobby Clark brought the field to the green in the 25 lap 305 sprint main with Ivy immediately grabbing the advantage. Clark, Jordan Ryan, Dan McCarron, Seth Schneider, Brandon Moore and Jason Keckler gave chase. Ryan would move into second on lap three and started to real in Ivy as they raced into lapped traffic by the 9th circuit.

On lap 11 Clark would tangle with the lapped machine of Jim Taddeo, bringing out the caution and ending Clark’s night. After the green flew and a lap later, Nate Dussel would end up on his side, collecting Dan Hammond. On the ensuing restart Ivy pulled away slightly from Ryan with McCarron, Keckler, Paul Weaver and Schneider in pursuit. Keckler would grab third on lap13, bringing Weaver into fourth.

Things would get very interesting on lap 21 as the leaders found lapped traffic. This allowed Ryan to move right in on Ivy’s rear bumper. Ivy was hung up behind two lapped cars who were battling as they flew into turn one with two laps to go. Ivy split the lapped cars as Ryan had to back off the throttle. Ivy would hold off Ryan for the win while Keckler, Weaver and McCarron rounded out the top five.

Attica Raceway Park will be back in action on Friday, April 11th on Bazel Race Fuel Night with the UMP Late Models, 305 sprints and dirt trucks in action.

FREMONT, Ohio – Dale Blaney has turned Fremont Speedway into his personal bank. The Hartford, Ohio driver took his third $10,000-to-win victory of the season Saturday to wrap up the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions 110th visit to “The Track That Action Built.”

Blaney led all 50 laps of the Sixth Annual Jim Ford Classic on JLH General Contractors Night, but Tim Shaffer didn’t make it an easy payday. Shaffer, who started 16th in the field, caught Blaney with six laps to go but a slight bobble in turn two on the white flag lap cost him a shot at “The Low Rider.”

For Blaney it was his sixth UNOH All Star win of the season and the 99th of his career to move him into first place in all-time series wins. It was Blaney’s 14th career All Star win at Fremont and the 19th overall at the track moving him into a tie for 28th on Fremont’s all-time win list.

Blaney had suffered mechanical issues the previous couple of weeks and was looking forward to the two-day Jim Ford Classic at Fremont.

“Fremont is like my second home. You guys have treated me great here and we always really good here. Rich Farmer (promoter) does a fantastic job with this place. People of Fremont are lucky to have him. The track was awesome and you could run any where. The top was prevalent but traffic was fun. I wish we could have stayed in traffic the whole race it was fun working through there. To get 99 here with the $10,000…it doesn’t get any better than that,” said Blaney beside his Ti22 Performance/GF1 Chassis backed #2.

“I always say I hate to lead early here but our car was really good. I knew he (Shaffer) was coming because when I got to the back of the pack I never ever saw him. I could see his crew guy on the yellows looking like he wasn’t far behind me. We are buddies and he races me clean. He probably could have slid me. I was just hanging on the last seven and getting really, really free. I was just trying to stay smooth and not spin,” added Blaney.

With one more UNOH All Star race remaining next month at Eldora Speedway, Blaney could wrap up his fourth career series championship to move into elite company with Shaffer, Chad Kemenah and Frank Kerr.

“We run good at Eldora. We just have to go over there and do the best we can and not have any problems and qualify well and have a good night. We have a couple of three weeks to prepare and we’ll be over to Eldora this Friday (for World of Outlaws show) to test a little bit,” said Blaney.

Who knows what the outcome of Saturday’s race would have been had Shaffer not jumped the cushion in turn two on the white flag lap. He would bring the Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook owned #83 home in second.

“It was like a storybook…everything was working just right…be aggressive and be patient, don’t get the tires sealed up. I was running Dale down there at the end and it was going to be perfect and I just entered too hard and tripped over the cushion and there went our momentum,” said Shaffer of his Kistler Engines/J&J Auto Racing/VRP Shocks/Champion Oil backed machine.

“My team has been doing a great job. Those guys have been sticking with me and it’s been great. At the beginning the car was sticking pretty good and I could be aggressive and not kill the tires. If I could just sneak on up there little by little and be patient and it would really drive forward,” added Shaffer.

Central Pennsylvania’s Alan Krimes made his first trip to Fremont Speedway memorable, bringing his #87 home in third.

“This place is awesome. I think this was the best racing surface we’ve run on all year. We like it when it gets slick like this and unfortunately back home it doesn’t get like this. When it gets slick like this I usually get rolling pretty good but those two cars in front of me are pretty good here,” said Krimes.

“My wing was stuck forward there the first 15 laps and that hurt us early and a couple of guys got by us. We were fortunate enough to get back by those guys. This is an awesome place and we’re tickled to death to come out here and run so good against a tough local field,” added Krimes.

Fremont’s Paul Weaver should crash his car more often when things aren’t going well. The driver of the #1w 305 sprint car crashed last week and he came out better than ever. Coming off a second place run Friday night Weaver would rocket into the lead on lap 15 and would pull away for his second win of the season. It was the 33rd of his career at Fremont moving him into 11th on the track’s all-time win list.

“That seemed like a 50-lapper if you counted all the cautions. We put extra fuel in it and it paid off…it kept some weight on the back end for the end of the race,” said Weaver beside his Buckeye Mobile Coatings/Weaver Performance/Hampshire Racing Engines/M&L Excavating/Schiets Motorsports backed machine.

“There’s such a long spell between wins when you finally get one you feel like a kid again. That was actually pretty fun. I have thank Dave Rice, Bob Hampshire, my wife, Evan Helle, Darl Schiets…so many people that helped me out after I tore the car up last week. I should have torn it up the first night out because this car is a whole lot better,” added Weaver.

In the AAA Ohio Auto Club Dirt Trucks Risingsun’s Shawn Valenti dominated leading all 20 laps for his third victory of the season and the eighth of his career at Fremont. Coupled with dirt truck wins at Attica and stock car wins at Lima Valenti has 10 victories in 2013.

“This all goes back to Jeff Babcock believing in me and putting me in the race cars. I can’t thank everyone enough who stands behind me,” said Valenti.

Krimes and Blaney would bring the field to the green for the 50-lap feature but a spin by Caleb Helms would necessitate another start. On the second attempt Blaney would bolt into the lead over D.J. Foos, Krimes, Chris Andrews, Andrew Palker and Friday night’s winner Byron Reed.

With a lap in Sheldon Haudenschild would stop to bring out the caution. When the green flew Blaney quickly pulled away from Foos, Krimes, Andrews and Reed. With just five laps in Blaney had caught the back of the field and they were racing side-by-side, allowing Foos to close. But, on lap 11, Danny Mumaw would spin to give Blaney a clear track.

On the restart Blaney set sail again as Foos now was challenged by Andrews with Reed moving into fourth with Krimes, Palker and Shaffer in tow. By lap 17 Blaney was once again in lapped traffic but Foos could not close until Blaney encountered heavy traffic on lap 23 which allow Foos and Andrews to close to his rear bumper.

Disaster struck for Foos on lap 24 as the lapped car of Sam Hafertepe spun, collecting Foos who exited the track with front end damage. On the restart Blaney had three lapped cars separating him and Andrews with three more lapped cars to third running Shaffer.

At the half-way point Trey Gustin and Caleb Griffith would spin which would bring about a fuel stoppage. When the race went back to green, Blaney had two lapped cars separating him from Andrews with Shaffer in third followed by Reed, Krimes, Palker and Broc Martin.

On lap 28 Rob Hunter would get upside down in turn four and now the top four ran nose to tail on the restart. Blaney would again pull away slightly as things settled down a bit for the top five. But once Blaney encountered lapped traffic again on lap 34 Andrews and Shaffer closed with Krimes also narrowing the gap. Shaffer would take second don lap 36 and a caution for another Trey Gustin spin on lap 37 would put ‘The Steel City Outlaw” on Blaney’s rear bumper.

When the green flew Blaney was able to put some distance between himself and Shaffer as Krimes drove into third and quickly closed on Shaffer. As the laps ticked off Shaffer began to close as the top two pulled away from Krimes with Andrews, Brock Martin and 23rd starting Jeff Swindell in tow.

With five laps to go, Shaffer was on Blaney’s rear bumper as they prepared to race into lapped traffic. As they raced to the white flag Shaffer was within half a car length of Blaney. Rocketing into turns one and two Shaffer slipped over the turn two cushion and Blaney drove off for the win. Shaffer, Krimes, Andrews and Martin would round out the top five.

Paige Polyak would storm from 21st starting spot to sixth with Swindell from 23rd to 7th while Palker, Cap Henry and Craig Mintz (up from 20th) rounding out the top 10.

Fremont Speedway put together a two-day, $5,000 point fund for the Jim Ford Classic that involved points for qualifying, passing points in the heats and feature along with heat and feature finishing positions and hard charger points. After the two days, Blaney would earn an extra $1,500 with Reed taking home an additional $1,000 with Palker getting $500; Andrews $400; Shaffer $350; Polyak $300; Sheldon Haudenschild $275; Henry $250; Mintz $225 and Krimes $200.

In the 25-lap Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprint feature, T.J. Michael and John Ivy would bring the field to green but a multi-car crash on the front stretch that saw Jamie Miller and Dan Hammond flip and Alvin Roepke tore up would necessitate another try. When the green flew again Michael took the lead over Ivy, Jason Keckler, Tyler Gunn and Jordan Ryan. The caution flew after a lap for a Jeremy Duposki and Mike Moore spin.

On the restart Michael pulled away from Ivy with Keckler and Ryan in tow. With six laps in Ivy had a front tire going flat as Ryan raced into second with Keckler taking third. Michael hit lapped traffic on the eighth lap just as the caution flew for Kyle Capodice who spun in turn four right in front of the leaders.

Michael again would take charge on the start with Keckler taking second while Weaver had worked his way from 11th to fourth. Keckler would drive to Michael’s outside to take the top spot on lap 11 with Weaver challenging for second. As Keckler raced into traffic on lap 14 Weaver was there to pounce and he drove into the lead on lap 15.

Only a caution for a Josh Harrison spin on lap 17 would slow Weaver’s march to the win. When the green flew he pulled away as Michael had his hands full with Ryan for second. Ryan would take the runner-up spot on lap 19 but couldn’t hunt down Weaver.

Weaver would take the checkers over Ryan, Michel, Keckler and Gunn.

Fremont Speedway would put a $1,500 point fund for the division over the two days of competition and Weaver earned the top prize of $300.

In the 20-lap dirt truck main, Kent Brewer and Ivy would bring the field to green but before a lap could be completed Dana Fry would spin. On the second try fourth place starter Valenti would rocket into the lead over Ivy, Brewer and Jimmy McGrath. But a Cory McCaughey spin after a lap was complete would slow the pace.

Another caution for a Fry and Loren Schwochow spin on lap three followed by a Brad Keckler spin on lap four kept the field close. When the green flew again though Valenti ran away from the field while Ivy, McGrath, Matt Foos, Daniel Roepke and Dustin Keegan waged a tremendous battle for second.

With Valenti stretching his lead, at the halfway point Ivy ran second with Roepke, McGrath and Foos in tow. Roepke would take second on lap 14 with Foos moving into third on lap 16. But no one was going to catch Valenti as he drove to the win over Roepke, Foos, Ivy and McGrath.

Prior to the races the 2014 Fremont Speedway Queen’s Pageant was held and the panel of judges chose Maria Gerber as the queen with Jessica Shanteau as first runner-up.

Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 28 when the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars come to town for a $10,000-to-win event. Reserved seating is available by going to www.fremontohspeedway.com and clicking on the World of Outlaws banner.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PORT ROYAL, PA (Friday, Sept. 6, 2013) - There's just something about the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions and Port Royal Speedway that brings out the best in Greg Hodnett.

Hodnett led all 30 laps Friday for the $5,000 victory in the Night Before The Tuscarora 50. It was his fourth career win in the event having also taken the Night Before checkers in 1998, 2002 and 2003. It was Hodnett's 16th career UNOH All Star win. The victory was the eighth of the season overall for Hodnett.

"We were lucky I guess. The cautions really worked out for us. We weren't very good in traffic so the cautions gave us clean air and the car reacted much better. We have some work to do for tomorrow to get the car better to be able to make passes. We need to put ourselves in a good position," said Hodnett beside his Trone Outdoor/Eagle Steel/Eagle Evergreens/Apple Chevrolet/Bricker's Fries/KTS/Macri Concrete/Energym backed #39.

Brian Leppo hasn't raced a lot this summer but once given the opportunity to drive the John Zemaitis owned Zemco Speed Equipment/Zemco Headers backed #1z, he has made the most of it. He would come home second Friday and is excited about Saturday's big race.

"I haven't raced a lot this summer but I was lucky enough to team up with John and Pee Wee and Tommy (Karl, crew chief) and I'm so thankful for the opportunity. We have been a little off this year and we made some changes to the car last night and it made it much better...I was able to drive it any where and manuever the car. I'm excited about Saturday," said Leppo. "You can't put Greg Hodnett on the front row and expect to beat him. He's just too good and doesn't make many mistakes."

Pittsburgh native Danny Holtgraver continued his solid performance with a third place finish. He had gotten around Leppo second but it was negated by a caution, putting Leppo back into the runner-up spot.

"I had gotten around Brian and the caution came out and they put him back in front of me and on the restart he went to the bottom and I couldn't get around him. I was worried about holding Shaffer off. That team has found something lately. We went out late in qualifying and got fifth quick which put us in a great position for the rest of the night. The car was good all night but toward the end of the race I was just okay. We have some work to do for tomorrow," said Holtgraver of his Bryan Grove/Rob Hunter owned #45 with Canton Erectors/Berlin Natural Bakery sponsorship.

Hodnett started second in the Night Before The Tuscarora 50 sprint car feature and drove into control over Brian Leppo when the green flag fell.

Only the first two laps were recorded when the first caution flag unfurled for a stopped Ryan Taylor in the first corner.

The next eight laps went non-stop with Hodnett opening up a straightaway over Leppo before the next caution occurred for a stopped Doug Esh.

Hodnett was trailed by Leppo, Danny Holtgraver, eighth starter Tim Shaffer and Dale Blaney for the restart.

Another lap was notched before another yellow unfurled, this time forcing a stoppage for refueling.

The restart saw Logan Schuchart surge to the front, making advances from his 17th starting spot to break into the top five with 12 laps to go.

And then another yellow slowed the pace for a stopped Brent Marks with 11 laps left.

Hodnett was nearly home free on the final lap when Caleb Helms laid his car over as he ran onto the front stretch, stopping the race short of the checkers.

The green-white-checkered restart saw Hodnett still easily in control for a cruise to the finish and victory that was his first of the season at the track and 33rd overall of his Port Royal career.

Leppo finished second followed by Holtgraver, Shaffer and Schuchart. After starting 10th, Blane Heimbach rode home sixth followed by Lance Dewease, TJ Stutts, Cap Henry and Chad Layton.

With his fourth place finish Shaffer, who has won the last four straight UNOH All Star championships, narrowed the gap between he and current series point leader Dale Blaney to just 15 points with only four races left in the season. With his 7th place finish Lance Dewease, the 2011 UNOH All Star Eastern Region champion, nearly locked up the $20,000 top prize for 2013 with just Saturday's Tuscarora 50 remaining in the points race.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ORRVILLE, Ohio Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013 – After the weekend he had, Cole Duncan and his family had thought about just sitting at home Sunday. Good thing the Lockbourne, Ohio driver changed his mind.

Duncan took the lead with just two laps to go after race-long leader Jac Haudenschild blew a left rear tire, and went on to score his first career University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions victory at the NAPA Wayne County Speedway. Haudenschild, driving for fellow hall-of-famer Rick Ferkel lead the first 26 laps of the 30 lap feature before his left rear tire blew.

During the two day show at Attica on Friday and Saturday, Duncan’s family own team suffered a motor problem Friday and then broke a rear-end on Saturday.

“Oh my God…I don’t even know what to say. We weren’t even going to come today. We woke up and unloaded it out of the trailer and we were going to leave it in the shop for the week and go at it next week. Holy crap I’m glad we came,” said Duncan, whose father Rodney was a staple on the UNOH All Star circuit in the 1980s and 1990s.

“I didn’t even see Jac leave the track. I saw the tire laying on the back stretch…man I hate that for Rick (Ferkel, Jac’s car owner for the night) and Jac and those guys. Especially Rick…he works so hard and he deserved this win. But we’ll take it after the weekend we’ve had,” continued Duncan beside his Bobby Labonte Racing/Motorcity Auto Transport/CnB Mushroom Farms/Wolfden Carbonfiber Products/Industrial Special Powdercoating/Hoosier Tire backed #22.

“We raced with Andrew (Palker) a lot here last year…he’s a good racer obviously as he’s won the track championship twice in the last two years…that’s pretty impressive. To get to race with him…we raced each other clean and it was a hell of a lot of fun,” continued Palker. “First I have to thank my Mom and Dad and my two grandpas and my crew…they worked their asses off to get us here. I’ve been waiting a long time for this.”

Local driver Dean Jacobs capped off a great weekend and celebrated his 50th birthday in style by bringing the Joe and Diane Seeling owned #97 home in second.

“They were telling me I was getting old and I had to prove them wrong. We were good…I actually thought I was better than Cole. You couldn’t hardly see to enter this corner (turn one) from the dust but if you could get in there you could run the crap out of the thing. Cole was doing the exact same thing that I was and that’s why he beat me I guess,” said Jacobs beside his Northwest Ohio Towing and Recovery/NAPA Truck and Auto Center/Sugar Street Bar and Grill backed machine. “We needed this. Joe and Diane Seeling have given me a nice race car and I try my hardest. Sometimes it bites you and sometimes you have good results like tonight. Now we’re going to go celebrate my birthday and have a lot of fun.”

“I thought I had run fourth and we came around and saw that Cole won. I don’t know if I was happy I ran second or just as happy that he won. I raced a lot of races with his dad and his dad beat me a lot. I was just telling him the other night because he was so good at Attica that as soon as he gets that first one they will start coming. Let me tell you…that boy is going to win a lot of races,” added Jacobs.

Track champion Andrew Palker kept his impressive run going with a third place finish after running second through much of the race.

“I just didn’t hear Cole up top and I should have put up there in the crap and cooled that tire off but I spent too much time on the bottom. And I got my right rear too hot and there at the end it was just too hot and I had nothing left. I can’t say enough about this team and Kistler Racing Products and Brian Kemenah and Paul Kistler…they are helping us out a bunch. We are sure learning a lot out here right now and it’s really showing when we came back home,” said Palker beside his Albreight Trucking/King Inspection/J&J Auto Racing/Weld Wheels backed #57x.

Newly crowned Lernerville Speedway champion Brandon Spithaler and Haudenschild would bring the field to green with Haudenschild rim-riding into the lead. Just three laps in third place running Lee Jacobs would spin with Brad Haudenschild stopping to avoid a collision. On the restart Haudenschild would rocket away from Spithaler with Duncan, Palker, Jacobs, Dale Blaney and Trey Gustin in tow.

Palker would move into third on lap six and would take second two circuits later. The caution would fly on lap nine for a Caleb Helms spin. On the restart Haudenschild would again blast into a commanding lead with Palker comfortably in second while Spithaler, Duncan, Blaney and Jacobs battled for third.

The caution would come out again on lap 12 as Lee Jacobs’ mount stopped on the front stretch with brake issues. The restart order was Haudenschild, Palker, Blaney, Duncan, Spithaler and Dean Jacobs. The field didn’t stay under green long as Jack Sodeman Jr. and Shawn Hubler got together on lap 12.

When the green reappeared Palker dove under Haudenschild in turns one and two, but “The Wild Child” rocketed off the cushion to pull away. As the laps ticked off Haudenschild built a sizeable lead over Palker as Blaney, Duncan and Jacobs battled for third.

The leaders would catch the back of the field on lap 18 and as most of the field ran the bottom, Haudenschild used the very top groove to pick off the lapped cars. Disaster nearly struck for Haudenschild with five laps to go as he jumped the heavy cushion in turn four and nearly got into the front stretch fence. That allowed Palker, Blaney, Duncan, Dean Jacobs and a closing Tim Shaffer to make up ground.

With seven laps to go Blaney would retire to the infield with mechanical woes, moving Duncan into third. As Haudenschild exited turn two on lap 27, his left rear tire would explode and he limped his mount back to the pits, handing the lead to Palker with Duncan, Dean Jacobs and Shaffer ready to pounce.

Duncan would drive around Palker for the lead with just two laps to go with Jacobs sneaking by on the white flag lap for second.

Duncan would drive to the win over Jacobs, Palker, Shaffer (from 11th), Rob Chaney, Danny Holtgraver (from 20th), Danny Mumaw (from 22nd), Brock Martin (from 16th), Spithaler and Gustin.

The UNOH All Stars will wrap up their Eastern Region points with a double-header at the Port Royal Speedway in Pennsylvania Sept. 6 and 7 before returning to Ohio for the Jim Ford Classic at Fremont Speedway Sept. 13 and 14.

After Sunday’s race at the NAPA Wayne County Speedway, the point’s battle for the UNOH All Star championship and the Ohio Region title are getting interesting with Dale Blaney’s lead shrinking as Shaffer seeks his unprecedented fifth straight series title. Blaney is also trying to earn his fourth career series championship.

FREMONT, Ohio (Saturday, June 29, 2013) – Who would have thought going into the final night of the 31st Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek Dale Blaney – a three time series and four time speedweek champion – wouldn’t have won a feature event during the six nights of racing? But Blaney remained confident…he knew speedweek was wrapping up at Fremont Speedway, where the “Low Rider” scored a $10,000 All Star win last month.

Blaney took the lead from Tim Shaffer at the half-way point of the 50-lap feature Saturday and held off a charging Kyle Larson to take home another $10,000 on Ludwig Propane Night. The win, the third UNOH All Star victory of the season for Blaney, is his 96th career with the series, just two shy of tying Kenny Jacobs for the all-time win lead. Blaney has more UNOH All Star wins at Fremont Speedway – 13 – than any other driver and now has 18 total wins at “The Track That Action Built.”

And while Blaney took home the big money, it was Larson and Shane Stewart who had the huge crowd on their feet. The pair started in row 11 – the 21st and 22nd starting spots and stormed to the front. Larson pressured Blaney the final seven laps as they raced through traffic. But “The Low Rider” held true to his name, not budging off the bottom groove to take the victory.

“On the red (on lap 32) I knew they (Stewart and Larson) were fourth and fifth and I knew there weren’t many lapped cars in there. To me those two guys are two of the best in the country no matter where you go. Shane’s been running so good this year and has been a threat every night. And Larson…I’ve watched him run a little bit…that guy is as talented a race car driver as I’ve ever seen in anything. It’s a good thing they didn’t start 10th and 11th,” said Blaney in the Engine Pro Victory Lane beside his Ti22 Performance/GF1 Chassis backed #2.

“It really wasn’t that demanding of a track. You just had to hit your marks. Every now and then the more conservative I got, especially down here (turns 1 and 2) I’d bounce through the holes and I knew they were coming and I was just trying to plug the holes,” added Blaney. “George (Fisher, crew chief) and all the guys are awesome. They make my job easy. I love Fremont…love the place, love the fans and to put on a great race like this is pretty cool.”

For Larson it was another runner-up finish for the month of June.

“We were really good. Once I got into second I was being too cautious. I could have tried to get to his inside once there in three but I figured I’d wait a little bit because I was getting off two better. But we got into heavier traffic and I wasn’t able to get that shot again,” said Larson beside his Abreu Vineyards/Butlerbuilt Seats/Stadelhoffer Construction backed #1k.

“To charge from 21st to second isn’t bad at all. Thanks to my crew, Dave Abreu, Rico Abreu, Jean and Brian Butler…everyone who helps on this 1k car. It’s always fun to come and race in Ohio. I love Ohio…I always do pretty well in Ohio. The fans are great. Maybe I’ll be able to run this race again next year. I was third last year and second this year…only one more way to go,” added Larson.

For Stewart, the charge to the front was fun, especially after flipping while leading the previous night at Limaland.

“I wouldn’t have bet a million dollars starting 22nd that I’d be standing up here. I felt like I had a good enough car to win the race last night and of course total driver error and destroyed the race car. My guys busted their butts all day long in the rain to put this other car back together. I can’t thank them enough. I was actually thinking after last night they would tell me they were going home. Kudos to Rich Farmer and the guys that work here at Fremont. They worked really hard. I saw the picture on Twitter at 6 a.m. and the sun was coming up and Rich was out here working. The rain Gods were on his side today and thank God Mother Nature stayed away. It’s been a heck of a week with the rain,” said Stewart beside his Tim Norman/Joe Gaerte owned machine.

“I had a lot of fun. This was a really good track and it’s good to see all the fans here and I’m happy would could put on a really good show for them,” added Stewart beside his Gaerte Engines/XYZ Machining/All Star Performance backed #3G. “I can’t thank all the people associated with the 3G enough for all the hard work they do for me.”

Meanwhile Shaffer’s fourth place finish would earn him the 2013 Ohio Sprint Speedweek Championship. The Aliquippa, Pennsylvania driver also captured the speedweek title in 2011.

Speedweek had five different winners over six nights of racing – Chris Andrews, Jac Haudenschild (2 wins), Brad Sweet, Shane Stewart and Blaney. Two shows were rained out.

“I just missed it a little bit tonight. I was a little too tight. It was standing up and the rougher it got the worse we were. This year just seems like one of those years where it’s hard to get a win. We’ll keep plugging away at it,” said Shaffer of his Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook owned #83.

“Hats off to my team. They did a great job all week and we had consistently good finishes. I just feel like I’m letting them down a little. We have been in position and just didn’t capitalize this week,” added Shaffer of his Kistler Engines/J&J Auto Racing/VRP Shocks backed machine.

Brandy Bacon and Shaffer would bring the field to the green for the 50-lap feature with Shaffer grabbing the point over Bacon, Justin Henderson, Danny Smith, Blaney, Byron Reed and Danny Holtgraver. A Travis Philo spin on lap three would halt the action with the running order Shaffer, Bacon, Henderson, Blaney and Smith.

When the green reappeared, Shaffer would pull away from Bacon as Henderson and Blaney were locked in a good battle for third. Shaffer would race into lapped traffic by the ninth circuit and Bacon would close. Just as the front two began to battle as they weaved through traffic, Brock Martin would bring out the caution.

Shaffer and Bacon would lead Blaney, Henderson, Reed and Holtgraver back to the green. Just seven laps later the leaders again raced into lapped traffic and Blaney began pressuring Bacon for second. Meanwhile Stewart and Larson had worked their way from 21st and 22nd starting spots to eighth and ninth. Blaney would grab second on lap 18 and used lapped cars to pull even with Shaffer on lap 22. Shaffer and Blaney battled over the next three laps before Blaney used a lapped car as a pick to pass Shaffer for the lead on lap 25.

At the halfway point the running order was Blaney, Shaffer, Bacon, Reed, Stewart and Larson. The caution would fly for a Jac Haudenschild 360 spin on lap 26 and on the restart both Stewart and Larson drove by Reed. Just as the leaders approached very heavy lapped traffic on lap 32, Holtgraver would stop exiting turn two. The field would then be stopped for refueling.

On the restart Blaney would pull away from Shaffer who was battling with Bacon while Stewart and Larson were prepared to pounce. Larson would drive around Stewart on lap 34 and would take third from Bacon on lap 38. As Blaney and Shaffer raced into lapped traffic again with seven laps to go, Larson blasted around Shaffer into second. With five laps to go Larson had caught Blaney and attempted several passes but just couldn’t get under Blaney for the lead.

Larson would give it one last try on the final lap, but Blaney held his bottom groove and drove to the win. Larson, Stewart, Shaffer and Bacon would round out the top five.

Not to be outdone, the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints also put on a fantastic show. Coming to the checkered flag, Dustin Dinan, who took the lead from Bobby Clark with only four laps to go, was held up by a lapped cars as Clark blasted to his outside with Jordan Ryan also in the fray. Dinan would move the lapped car out of his way and would storm to his second feature win of the season at Fremont.

“I’m sorry for doing that but I lost a race being too patient for a lapped car and I wasn’t going to let that happen again. I didn’t really want to do that but I had to,” said Dinan in the Engine Pro Victory Lane beside his Tanks Meats/Johnson’s Hunting and Fishing/Quality Welding/Hillside Pawn Shop/Quaintance Farms/Schiets Tender Touch Car Wash backed #6.

“I have to thank Rich Farmer and Shelly Liskai and my crew Dave Foos, Jamie Adams, Richard Sebastian, Tom Losher, Aaron Fought, Bryce, Brock, Rachel and my baby girl…Sleeker…everybody,” added Dinan.

Jason Keckler and T.J. Michael would pace the field to the green for the 25-lap feature for the 305 sprints, with Michael gaining the advantage over fourth starter Clark, Keckler, Dinan and Nate Dussel. Clark would drive around Michael for the lead on lap two before the caution would fly for Jeremy Shambaugh who suffered suspension damage.

On the restart Clark would pull away as Dinan blasted into second with Michel, Keckler, Dussel, John Ivy, Ryan and Alvin Roepke in tow. As Clark raced into lapped traffic on lap 13, Dinan closed and raced under him over the next couple of laps before Jess Stiger would break, bringing out another caution on lap 14.

When the green reappeared, Clark and Dinan picked up their battle with Keckler locked in a tremendous race with Dussel and Ryan. As the leaders raced into traffic with five to go, Dinan was close. A lap later he would execute a slider in turn two to grab the lead from Clark with Ryan closing. With two to go it was now a three car battle for the lead between Dinan, Clark and Ryan.

As they entered turns three and four on the final lap, a back marker was on the bottom where Dinan was running. Clark would jump to the cushion with Ryan following. Dinan would nudge the lapped car out of the groove, sending him spinning as Dinan drove to the win over Clark, Ryan, Ivy and Michael.

Maverick Wright, 13, of Delta, Ohio, would storm from last starting spot to take the win in the Computer Man Sports Compacts. It was the second win of his career at Fremont.

Fremont Speedway will be back in action July 6tth which is being touted as Local Heroes Night. On Fort Ball Pizza Palace Night, anyone in uniform from scouts to law enforcement to firefighters and EMTs to military personnel both past and present (with a military ID) will get into the races free.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LIMA, Ohio – There’s just something about high banked race tracks with a cushion inches off the wall that brings out the best in Jac Haudenschild.

The Wooster, Ohio driver took over the lead on lap six after the previous two front runners – Shane Stewart and Jac’s son, Sheldon – crashed, and drove away the remaining 33 laps for his second win of the 31st Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek. For Jac, who won Saturday at Eldora Speedway which also featured a slick groove inches from the outside wall, it was his 25th career University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions victory. The win was Haudenschild’s second career All Star win at Limaland which has now hosted the series 28 times since 1983.

“The car felt good and the track was definitely the way I like it…slick and to the wall. My mechanic Bonsai had the car really good tonight. Tom Leidig…I just want to thank him for putting me in a car this year. It’s nice to have a good ride,” said Haudenschild beside his Auto Electric backed #59. “It really is nice to be in Ohio racing during speedweek. I love racing around here….it’s where I started. It’s great to win at Limaland.”

For Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Danny Holtgraver second place continues his hot streak during speedweek of top 10 runs and puts him in contention to claim the Ohio Speedweek championship. It all will come down to Saturday’s $10,000-to-win finale at Fremont as Holtgraver and Tim Shaffer are within a handful of points of one another.

“I had a little bit of trouble getting through traffic…I got caught up behind one. This place is like a mini-Eldora and Jac’s best at Eldora so why not be good here. It was a fun race. I just wish I could have gotten closer at the end. The car was awesome. I have to thank my guys, Brian, Chris, Rob, my dad, Rob Hunter and Bryan Grove…a lot of awesome people who have given me a great opportunity and I’m having a good time here,” said Holtgraver beside his Canton Erectors/Berlin Natural Bakery./DKW Transport/Classic Ink backed #45.

After having to change a tire and go to the tail just 7 laps into the race, four time UNOH All Star champion Tim Shaffer charged to a third place finish.

“I think the tire went flat right off the bat. It was laying on the right rear hard. I was telling Cody (Jacobs, crew chief) on that yellow ‘I think my tire is low.’ And then when that red came out I asked that guy and he said it was really low. I didn’t know what to do…either we try to stay out or go get it fixed. It worked out great. I’m really proud of my guys, the whole CH Motorsports team. We’re banging on the door and getting closer and closer to getting a win. We’ll keep working harder,” said Shaffer beside his Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook owned machine with sponsorship from J&J Auto Racing, Kistler Engines/VRP Shocks and Champion Oil.

“Tomorrow is another race and we have to do our homework tomorrow. Everything seems to change. It’s about getting the car really awesome. Fremont has been good to me and it’s always fun to race there so hopefully we can come out of there with our first All Star win this season,” added Shaffer who inches closer to Dale Blaney for the UNOH All Star national and Ohio region point lead.

Sheldon Haudenschild and Shane Stewart would bring the field to the green for the 40-lap feature with Stewart bolting into the lead with Sheldon Haudenschild, Jac Haudenschild, Holtgraver, Danny Smith, Dale Blaney and Randy Hannagan in tow. Just three laps into the race Stewart would jump the cushion in turn one and flip, handing the lead to Sheldon.

Sheldon would lead on the restart over Jac, as Holtgraver and Blaney battled hard for third with Hannagan, Byron Reed, Smith and Cole Duncan staying close. As they came out of turn four on lap five, Sheldon would jump the cushion, flipping his mount. That handed the lead to Jac with Holtgraver, Blaney, Hannagan, Reed and Duncan in tow. On the restart, D.J. Foos would crash in turn. A lap later a multi-car pile-up involving Greg Wilson, Caleb Helms, Bryan Sebetto and Dallas Hewitt would necessitate a fuel stop during which time Shaffer went pit side to change the flat right rear tire.

The restart order was Jac Haudenschild, Holtgraver, Blaney, Hannagan, Reed, Smith, Duncan, Dean Jacobs, Brandon Martin and Cap Henry. With a clear track on the restart, Haudenschild rocketed away while Holtgraver battled with Blaney for second and behind them Hannagan and Reed were locked in a tremendous duel for fourth.

The race would go non-stop the remaining distance.

Haudenschild would move into lapped traffic on lap 15 and began picking them off one at a time as Holtgraver got a little hung up and couldn’t gain ground. At the half-way point, Haudenschild encountered heavy lapped traffic that was racing side by side in front of him. Holtgraver closed quickly with Blaney, Reed and Hannagan also making up ground. Once clear of the traffic with 15 laps remaining, Haudenschild pulled away.

Meanwhile Shaffer, who had restarted on lap 7 in the 17th position, had worked his way up to fifth by lap 30. With five to go Haudenschild had a comfortable lead over Holtgraver with Blaney, Hannagan and Shaffer giving chase. Shaffer would move into fourth with just three laps remaining and took third as they raced to the white flag.

Haudenschild would rim-ride to the checkered over Holtgraver, Shaffer, Blaney and Hannagan.
