FREMONT, Ohio – Dale Blaney always says he does not like leading early. But, when you know you have a good car and there’s $10,000 on the line….that can change a driver’s attitude.

Blaney led all 50 laps Sunday at Fremont Speedway on Budweiser Night to take his 95th career University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions victory and is now just three away from tying Kenny Jacobs for the most series wins. It wasn’t easy for Blaney as he had to hold off a charging Shane Stewart the last seven laps for his 17th career win at “The Track That Action Built.” Blaney, who finished a close second the previous night at Fremont Speedway, leads all drivers at the track with UNOH All Star wins with 12 as the series has visited the historic speedway 107 times.

“Any time you come here it’s always a good race and that had to be a good race for the fans. Ninety-five wins…that means I’ve been at it a long time. George has won a lot of races for me. He does a hell of a job and if it wasn’t for him doing all the work that he does and Ti22 and GF1…George is 98 percent of the team and I’m just two and sometimes it’s a good two and sometimes it’s a bad two,” said Blaney of his second UNOH All Star win of 2013.

“My car was so good in the dash and I thought I’m just going to get out there and see if I can put as many lapped cars between me and second as I could. I was decent early and George (Fisher, crew chief) kind of told me to look at the top and I did down here and I felt rubber a little bit getting off four and then everybody started to crawl the top and I kept hearing somebody and I was so tight getting in behind guys it was hard for me to get around and get on their right rear. And Shane (Stewart) was up there and I saw his nose wing and man, it was for $10,000 and he had a run around there and I was coming and it was tight but it was a cool race,” said Blaney beside his Ti22 Performance, GF1 Chassis backed machine.

Blaney made it look easy the first 20 laps of the event, but couldn’t run and hide as three cautions in the middle stages of the race kept Stewart, Tim Shaffer, Chris Andrews and Craig Mintz close. Also, fans were on the edge of their seats watching Greg Wilson, who last week came from 18th starting spot to collect his second win of the season at Fremont, as he charged from 17th to sixth by the half-way point. But, after the last caution flew on lap 26, the remainder of the race would go green and when Blaney found heavy lapped traffic with 17 to go, Stewart, Shaffer and others had found a little rubber on the high side of the track and closed quickly. With six laps to go, Stewart had pulled right on Blaney’s rear bumper as they diced through traffic.

On lap 46 Stewart drove to Blaney’s outside in turns three and four with Blaney squeezing him to the front stretch wall and breaking his momentum. This allowed 9th starter Craig Mintz, the track’s defending champion, to make it a three car battle. With two laps to go, Stewart was all over Blaney with Mintz driving inside of both to challenge. As the white flag flew, the large crowd was on their feet as the trio worked each other and traffic. Blaney was able to drive off the top of turn four to take the win while Mintz drove around Stewart for second. Shaffer and 11th starter Caleb Griffith – after a spirited battle with Wilson – would round out the top five.

“If that were a 55-lap race it would have been fun but hats off to Dale. Those guys got out front and it started taking rubber a little bit and the guys started playing follow the leader around the top…it was kind of hard to pass race cars. You just had to hope for someone to miss rubber,” said Mintz beside his Real Geese Decoys, R2C Filters, Design Graphics Group, Keller Chevrolet, Erie Shore Propane, Walby Construction, KS Sales and Services backed #09.

“I have to thank my mom and my dad and Kathy and my wife and Hoagie and Brad and Kevin and Steven Linder has been helping out a ton. I can’t thank all those folks enough,” added Mintz.

Stewart was disappointed he couldn’t bring home the win aboard his Joe Gaerte and Tim Norman owned #3G.

“I wasn’t here to run second and sacrificed a spot there trying to win. Man I don’t know what George and Dale do but when it gets slick those guys are pretty tough to beat,” said Stewart beside his Gaerte Engines, XYZ Machining, All Star Performance, Red Line Oil backed machine. “I can’t thank my guys enough. They worked hard for me. We had a little altercation…I actually yelled at them a little bit after the dash and I don’t ever mean to do that. But they kept working hard for me and they always give me a great car and I just came up a little bit short.”

“I knew I was going to be better than Dale was once it took rubber because he was better before the rubber laid down. I had one shot at him, maybe two and screwed up both times,” added Stewart.

In the AAA Ohio Auto Club Dirt Trucks, Fremont rookie Matt Foos would take the lead on lap two, but surrendered it to four time feature winner John Ivy in lapped traffic on lap 13. But a caution with three laps to go gave him another shot and he pounced. As Ivy, Dustin Keegan and Foos drove down the back stretch coming to the white flag, Foos drove his machine in hard and blasted under both to lead. But, Ivy and Keegan didn’t falter and the trio raced side by side the last lap with Foos edging out both for his first career win.

“There was a big puddle of water down there (in turns one and two) and I kept hitting it and getting tight and I was messing up left and right and John took advantage of it. I think he actually messed up once and I took advantage of that,” said Foos beside his Fremont Fence, M&L Excavating, Advanced Auto Parts, Kent’s Transmissions backed #2. “I wanted this one. These guys don’t get enough recognition for how much work they do on these things and Charlie Butler been helping me out a lot and it’s obviously been paying off. I have to thank Brian and Sherry Sorg, Cowboy, Keith, Charlie, Craig, and everyone that supports me.”

Not to be outdone, the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints put on a whale of a feature too. Jason Keckler would lead the first eight laps before Dustin Dinan would use a lapped car as a pick to take the lead, Dinan lead the next eight laps before a caution would fly and on the restart Paul Weaver would execute a flier to take the lead as he and Dinan banged wheels. Weaver would then hold off John Ivy the rest of the way for his 32nd career victory.

Weaver tied Wally Heminger for 11th on the track’s all-time win list.

“He (Dinan) missed the rubber on that restart and had her hanging out there and I thought he was going to go out the entrance there. I thought if I could at least get beside him in the rubber I’d be alright,” said Weaver beside his Weaver Performance, Hampshire Racing Engines, Buckeye Mobile Coatings, M&L Excavating, Schiets Motorsports backed machine.

Blaney and Shaffer would bring the field to the green for the 50-lap affair with Blaney grabbing the lead over Shaffer while Stewart and Andrews raced hard for third. Andrews would take third on lap two and would drove around Shaffer for second on the next circuit. With six laps recorded all eyes were on Wilson who had moved from 17th to seventh.

Blaney would drive into heavy lapped traffic by the 10th lap as Andrews and now Stewart battled hard second with Shaffer, Mintz, Jack Sodeman and Wilson in pursuit. Stewart would nab second on lap 12 but could not close on Blaney. The first caution flew on lap 21 for a stalled Adam Kekich. Blaney would have a lapped machine separating him from Stewart with a resurgent Shaffer, Andrews, Mintz and Wilson in pursuit. Just four laps later Andrews’ great run would end as he slid off the high side of turn two to bring out the caution. A lap and another caution for a stalled Stewart Brubaker kept Blaney from hiding from Stewart.

On the restart Blaney and Stewart pulled away while Shaffer and Mintz were left to battle traffic and each other. Shaffer and Mintz swapped the third spot several times over the next few laps as Blaney and Stewart drove away. On lap 33 the leaders again drove into heavy lapped traffic and Stewart closed on Blaney ever so slightly while Shaffer and Mintz continued their battle with Wilson and now Caleb Griffith in pursuit. Mintz would finally grab third on lap 37.

Blaney sliced his way through traffic like a surgeon until there were just six laps to go and as he struggled somewhat, Stewart quickly closed, setting up the exciting finish.

In the 20 laps dirt truck feature, Brad Mitten and Steve Sabo brought the field to the green but Dana Fry would spin necessitating a complete restart. When the green flew again Sabo jumped into the lead over Mitten, Dustin Keegan, Foos and Shawn Valenti. Foos could drive under everyone into the lead on the second lap, bringing Mitten to second. The caution would fly for a Brian Melnek spin on lap five. A lap and an Art Ball spin kept the field close.

Foos would continue to lead when the green reappeared as Keegan raced into second, bringing Sabo to third and John Ivy into fourth. Ivy would use the bottom groove to slide into second on lap 11 as he, Sabo and Keegan waged a tremendous battle. The caution a lap later put Ivy right on Foos’ rear bumper and on the restart he would vault into the lead. Keegan would drive into second on lap 14 as he stayed within striking distance of Ivy. The final caution flew on lap 17 for Kent Brewer and on the restart, Ivy, Keegan and Foos were locked in a torrid battle. Foos would drive under both to lead by a bumper on the white flag, setting up the dramatic three wide race to the checkered.

Keckler and Jimmy Colvin paced the field to the green in the 25-lap 305 sprint main, but Colvin would spin necessitating a complete restart. Keckler would then jump into the lead with Dinan, Ivy, Weaver, Jeremy Duposki, Nate Dussel, T.J. Michael and Roger Shammo in pursuit. Weaver would drive into third on lap two. As Keckler raced into lapped traffic on lap 7, Dinan closed and took the lead a circuit later. Weaver grabbed second on lap 11 with Keckler and Ivy staying close while Dussel, Shammo, previous night’s winner Jordan Ryan and Dean Jacobs in pursuit.

Jess Stiger would bring out the yellow on lap 16 with Dinan leading Weaver, Ivy, Dussel, Keckler, Shammo, Ryan and Jacobs. On the restart Weaver went for broke and took the lead as Dinan would spin a lap later trying to get back buy. Now, with just seven laps remaining, Weaver had Ivy, Dussel, Keckler, Shammo, Jacobs and Michael on his rear bumper.

Weaver was able to hold off Ivy for the win with Dussel, Keckler and Shammo rounding out the top five.

There is no racing at Fremont Speedway next weekend but the Track That Action Built will be back to racing on Saturday, June 8 for Vision Quest Night with the 410 and 305 sprints, dirt trucks and sports compacts. Prior to the racing the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame induction ceremonies will take place in the historic covered grandstands beginning at 2:30 p.m.

FREMONT, Ohio – Sometimes you just need to go back to the basics.

Fremont, Ohio driver Bryan Sebetto and his Hammer Racing team did just that recently and it paid off Saturday. Sebetto used a lapped car as a pick and drove around Dale Blaney with four laps to go and went on to score his fourth career University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions victory at Fremont Speedway. All of Sebetto’s All Star victories have come at his home track.

“Early in the race we just couldn’t get any laps going…all those guys kept screwing around and bringing out all these cautions. I was a little better than he (Blaney) was but I wasn’t good enough to pass him in clean air…I needed lapped traffic. I was glad we got a long green flag run and got into lapped traffic. It’s good to be second in lapped traffic because you can go where he doesn’t said Sebetto in the Engine Pro Victory Lane on Kear’s Speed Shop Night.

“This season has been awful. I can’t believe Randy and Lisa Hammer haven’t fired me as bad as I’ve been driving and as bad as we’ve been running. This just proves how much they are behind me. We got so far off on set-up stuff when we switched to these Hoosiers and me and Randy and Aaron and Guhn and Timmy just sat around talked and figured we just need to go back to what we know…back to what we were doing last year and fine tune it from there and that’s what we did and this thing’s been a rocket ship ever since,” continued Sebetto beside his Hammer Pallets, Gressman Powersports, Crown Battery, JLH General Contractor, Maxim Chassis, R3 Nutrition, Meggit Powdercoating, OC Shocks backed #24h.

“Just to turn our season around, it doesn’t matter if this was a $1,000 to win or $20,000. We needed this win to boost my confidence, our team’s confidence and to turn our season around,” concluded Sebetto.

In the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints, Castalia, Ohio’s Jordan Ryan drove under Seth Schneider and Dustin Dinan with 8 laps to go and then survived a late race caution to earn his first ever Fremont Speedway victory.

“I was thinking about going to the top and I was like ‘no I’m too good down on the bottom.’ My dad told me to run where it feels good,” said Ryan beside his Griff’s Engines, Kistler Racing Products, Village Pizza House, Frosty Frog, Walton’s Cutting Crew, J&J Automotive backed #5. “I hated seeing that caution (with three laps to go). I knew Dustin (Dinan) would be there. I put it on the bottom in turn one and it stuck.”

John Ivy continued his hot ways in the AAA Ohio Auto Club Dirt Trucks, picking up his fourth feature win of the season in the division. It was Ivy’s sixth overall victory of the year at Fremont as he also owns 2 wins in the 305 sprints. Ivy now has 42 career victories at Fremont, just 2 wins away from tying Wayne Maffett Sr. for 7th on the track’s all-time win list.

“To beat Art Ball like that…me and him race side by side like that. I remember watching him ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper. To drive by him that means we’re doing something right,” said Ivy beside his Level Performance, Diversified Machine & Welding, Sonny’s Machine Shop backed #00. “Charlie and the boys have this thing really good. It’s not spitting out drive shafts or anything so we’re doing good.”

Sebetto and Brady Bacon would bring the field to the green in the 30-lap feature with Bacon grabbing the top spot over Sebetto, Dale Blaney, Tim Shaffer and Caleb Helms. Bacon would pull away as Sebetto and Blaney battled for second with Shaffer trying to hold off Byron Reed. Blaney would pull into second on lap five.

Bacon would catch the back of the pack on lap seven and Blaney closed. Bacon would slip off the high side of turn three on lap eight, allowing Blaney to drive under and into the lead as the caution flew for debris. This would breed a rash of cautions.

On the restart Blaney would lead as Bacon was locked in a battle with Sebetto for second while Shaffer, Reed, Jody Keegan, Helms, Brian Lay, Cap Henry and Craig Mintz gave chase. Dan Kuriger would bring out the caution with a broken front end on lap 9. Another lap before the caution would fly for a Rob Chaney spin. Then on the restart Helms would loop his mount. On the ensuing restart Blaney would lead as Sebetto drove into second while Bacon, Shaffer, Reed, Keegan and Lay gave chase. D.J. Foos would tumble in turn two on lap 11, necessitating an open red for fuel.

When the green flew again, Sebetto drove to Blaney’s outside to challenge as Bacon and Shaffer were locked in a tremendous battle while Keegan, Henry, Lay and Danny Holtgraver were in pursuit. Henry would spin on lap 12 and Keegan would get upside down on the restart. On the ensuing restart, Paige Polyak would get sideways in turn three and collected Justin Henderson.

Each time on the restart Sebetto would charge to Blaney’s outside but could not make the pass for the lead while Bacon and Shaffer continued to battle hard for third.

Chris Andrews would spin on lap 14 for the final caution of the event as Shaffer pitted with a flat tire. When the green came back out, Blaney and Sebetto continued their war for the top spot as Danny Holtgraver moved into third with Lay, Bacon, Mintz, Caleb Griffith and Stuart Brubaker (up from his 21st starting spot in pursuit.

Blaney pulled away slightly as Sebetto stayed in striking distance as they drove away from Holtgraver. With eight laps to go, Blaney hit lapped traffic and Sebetto closed. With four laps to go, Blaney was having trouble getting around a lapped car that was in his bottom groove, and Sebetto drove around the outside to take the lead. Meanwhile Mintz was on the move and took fourth, bringing Griffith to sixth from his 13th starting spot.

Sebetto would use the extreme high line to drive around lapped machines, but as he took the white flag Blaney closed. As they raced through turns three and four the final time, Blaney dove under Sebetto, but Sebetto, a former Fremont track champion, kept his momentum and drove to his 23rd career Fremont win.

Blaney, Holtgraver, Mintz and Griffith would round out the top five, with Lay, Reed, who came from the tail after going pit side early with a broken suspension part, Bacon, Brubaker and Henry would complete the top 10.

“I was in the right spot. I just need to clear a couple of lapped cars. It was my fault for not being able to drive around the. I didn’t get patient and I was kind of on the wrong part of the race track a few times and just lost speed and he got by me,” said Blaney beside his Ti22 Performance backed #2. “He was hitting the right spots.”

For Holtgraver, the third place run continues his hot streak of late as he posted an All Star win last weekend.

“We were a little tight there at the beginning and Brian (Kemenah, crew chief) made a couple of adjustments under the red and it was a world of difference. I could drive it where ever I needed to go. Car was awesome at the end and I think we would have had something for them. I was at the wrong place at the wrong time in lapped traffic but we’ll take a third. We’ve needed this big time. We’ve been up and down and up and down and finally we’re getting something going,” said Holtgraver beside his B&R Motorsports, Berlin Natural Bakery, Canton Erectors, Classic Ink, DKW Transport, Kistler Engines backed #45.

In the 25-lap 305 sprint feature, Seth Schneider and T.J. Michael would bring the field to the green with Michael gaining the upper hand. Michael would race into lapped traffic by lap six with Schneider, Dinan, Ryan, Paul Weaver and Nate Dussel in pursuit. Michael would spin on lap eight trying to negotiate traffic, handing the lead to Schneider.

On the restart Schneider would lead over Dinan, Ryan, Weaver, Dussel and Ivy. With 10 laps in, Eric Duposki and Nate Reeser would spin. On the restart, Schneider would lead Dinan, Ryan, Weaver, Dussel and Ivy again. Duposki would spin again on lap 12. This time on the restart, Ryan would drive into second but Dinan would regain the spot a lap later. Dinan would drive to the outside of Schneider for the lead on lap 15 as Ryan made it a three car battle. On lap 17, Ryan would drive into the lead.

Ryan would drive into lapped traffic with six laps to go as Dinan applied pressure with Dussel racing into third bringing Ivy to fourth. Just as Dussel moved into second on lap 22, Reeser would spin setting up a three lap dash to the finish. Ryan hit his marks perfectly on the restart as Dussel and Dinan battled for second. Dinan would regain second on the white flag lap and drove to Ryan’s outside but couldn’t execute the pass. Ryan would take the checkered over Dinan, Dussel, Ivy and Jimmy Colvin.

The UNOH All Stars will be back in action Sunday at Fremont Speedway in a big 50-lap, $10,000 to win event on Budweiser Night.

MECHANICSBURG, PA. – When a dirt track’s racing surface is heavy and wet, it’s often the younger driver who show case their talents. But, when a track surface gets wide and slick like it did Friday at Williams Grove Speedway, it’s veterans like Don Kreitz Jr. who show they can still be tough to beat.

The Sinking Spring, Pa. resident ran the inside groove to perfection and would drive from his 10th starting spot to grab the lead from Fred Rahmer on lap 12 and go on to record his seventh career University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions victory. Kreitz has been running a limited schedule over the past few years, focusing mainly on Williams Grove Speedway. In fact, Friday’s UNOH All Star win is his first with the series since 1999.

“It was a great race for us. Davey (Brown) and the guys made a lot of changes from the heat race and had the car really hooked-up. He’s a big part of the team. He still does the engines and set-up on the car,” said Kreitz beside his Henry R. Sherman Builders, Kreitz Oval Track Parts/RV Workshop.com/Schannauer #69k.

Kreitz sliced through the field from his fifth row starting spot to grab third from four time UNOH All Star champion Tim Shaffer with 11 laps completed. Rahmer, who has been hot so far this season in his new Rob Sell owned team, had started on the pole and after trading the lead with Shaffer early in the 30-lap feature, was fending off Jac Haudenschild for the lead as Kreitz took third. Kreitz would get under “The Wild Child” for second off turn two and then slipped under Rahmer in turns three and four to grab the lead on lap 12.

“I just caught the leaders right,” said Kreitz. “They didn’t know the bottom was coming in and our car was really dialed-in there early and left us getup through.”

After taking the lead, Kreitz would build a big advantage in a race that had only one caution – that coming on lap 14. Kreitz would catch lapped traffic with a seven laps to go and Rahmer closed, but the bottom was the preferred groove and all Rahmer could do was follow Kreitz to the checkered.

“I didn’t want to chance going around them so I waited for them to make a mistake,” said Kreitz of the lapped traffic. “Fred would have deserved to win if he had drive around us. You’re always worried when you get into lapped cars.”

The victory was the 55th of Kreitz’ career at the Grove, to rank third on the track’s all-time win list. It was his first win at the track since September 2010.

“I haven’t won here in a little while and to get a win early here like this is good for our team,” said Kreitz, who was disqualified the last time he won an All Star race at the Grove in 2005 for being under weight.

For Rahmer, the second place run continues his early season great runs and keeps him in the William Grove Speedway points lead.

“Track took some rubber. But, I love these Hoosier tires…they have saved my ass,” said Rahmer beside his Don Ott Racing Engines/Triple X Racing/Art’s Radiator/TruLine Contractors/JM Bullion/Media Camping Center/Trevdan Building Supply/Blue Tree Landscaping/Aran Trading backed #20s. “Don was just too strong on the bottom.”

Shaffer, coming off an open competition win last week at Fremont Speedway, was confident the Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook Racing team has turned the corner and is set for a great season.

“We are communicating well and the driver isn’t screwing up,” joked Shaffer beside his Kistler Engines/J&J Auto Racing/ Weld Wheels/FK Rod Ends/VRP Shocks backed #83. “It was a good race…I may have started racing for the lead too early. But, hats off to Donnie…that’s the Donnie Kreitz of old. He put an ass-whopping to us.”

Shaffer’s third place run narrowed the gap in the UNOH All Star’s National points, moving him to within 27 of Dale Blaney for the lead. In the series’ Eastern Region, Shaffer climbed to within just 3 points of Blaney while Lance Dewease, a former Eastern Region champion and 6 time Williams Grove champion, closed to within 7 points of the lead with his fourth place run.

FREMONT, Ohio – Despite some mechanical woes over the past few races and some bad racing luck, Dale Blaney has remained confident. That was evident Wednesday at Fremont Speedway for night #6 of the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions’ 30th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek.

Prior to the night’s racing on JLH General Contractor’s Night, Blaney was calm and confident in the pit area, joking with fellow competitors, and letting them know he was taking ALL the money at “The Track That Action Built.”

“It was a great night…got a good qualifying lap and that just set the tone for it,” said Blaney beside his Ti22 Performance #2. “I’ll tell you what…to beat those two guys (Tim Shaffer and Kyle Larson) here…especially Larson. He’s unbelievable and we’re going to be watching him race on Sundays for a lot of years. It’s pretty neat to race with him right now. And to beat Shaffer…I saw that #83 on the board and I knew he was good. He gets up on the wheel for these races. We have a good time racing. Boy he shoved it in there in four. I thought I was okay…I was kind of getting held up there just a little bit…the 45 car kind of took my line a little bit. I don’t know if I was playing a little too cautious, but I got in there a little easier than I should of and he (Shaffer) got a run and boy I had to get between him and the curb and the curb was tall and I just caught it good. He could have just used me up but he raced me clean.”

Blaney, a three time UNOH All Star champion and four time Ohio Sprint Speedweek titlist, passed race-long leader Kyle Larson in heavy lapped traffic with just seven laps to go and then held off a valiant last lap effort from defending speedweek champion Tim Shaffer to score his fifth UNOH All Star win of the year. It was Blaney’s 10th career All Star win at Fremont, tying him with Jack Hewitt for the most all time series’ win at “The Track That Action Built.”

“It’s pretty cool to tie Jack. There’s no other place I really like to come to. This is one of my favorite places to come race. It’s a racing town and the fans are always great here. To win here is special and the fans have always treated me right,” said Blaney

Blaney’s 15th career win at Fremont Speedway, tightens the UNOH All Stars point standings for the national title as Shaffer came into the event with a narrow 12 point lead. The Ohio Sprint Speedweek points battle is also close as Stevie Shaffer and Blaney narrow the gap to leader Stevie Smith.

For Shaffer, the second place run just continues to show how his Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook Motorsports team continues to grow and gel.

“I was trying my damnest…that was a hell of a race. You get Larson out front…that kid is awesome; he’s got a lot of talent. To stay up front at this track…it’s tough, the track changes and you have to move around a lot. When I got to third I thought I might have a shot at this. I kind of slid Larson down there earlier and it worked so I tried it just to see how close I could get to Dale and I tried it and got next to him and thought I needed to save that for later. I just came up a little short. What a heck of a race…that was a lot of fun,” said Shaffer beside his Kistler Engines, VRP Shocks backed #83.

“I can’t wait to race tomorrow… I just love racing every night. We have a great team with Janet and Aaron giving us great tools to work with. The J&J chassis and VRP shocks and Kistler Engines…it’s just starting to come together and it’s a lot of fun,” added Shaffer.

For Larson, who has won two Ohio Speedweek features in his first ever appearance in the event, third place was a bit disappointing.

“The cushion got tougher and tougher to run. I figured the Low Rider (Blaney) would be down on the bottom in one and two...it really got slick down there and you had to make sure you hit your marks. I didn’t want to take a chance of missing the bottom like I did when he got by me. I don’t know what happened there after that yellow…I just kept messing up and let him get close to me. I felt like I was getting through traffic good so I really didn’t want to see that yellow (only caution was on lap 25) I wanted it to go 40 laps nonstop. We will take two wins and almost a third last night and a third tonight…it’s not bad,” said Larson of his Abreu Vineyards/Stadelhoffer Construction/Butlerbuilt Seats backed #1k.

Bradner, Ohio’s Nate Dussel would lead all 25 laps of the non-stop Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprint feature to easily earn his first win of the season at Fremont Speedway. It was his 7th career win.

“It’s about damn time. These guys hit it on the nose tonight. It’s been so frustrating this last month and a half. This racing deal is supposed to be for fun and we just haven’t had too much fun lately. This makes all those days in the shop worth it,” said Dussel beside his Berrier Fabrication/, Gressman Powersports/Kylynn Manufacturing/Dussel Welding backed #1. “Thank God I have a great motor that Scott Gressman puts under me. I could go up there and smack the cushion and just put my foot in it and it would save it. I can’t thank my crew enough…they do this for nothing and they are working their tails off.”

Woodville, Ohio’s Daniel Roepke Jr. powered into the lead on lap five and only a few cautions would slow his march to his second straight victory at Fremont in the Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks.

“We could really stick this thing on the bottom. When that last caution came out (on lap 18 of the 20 lap feature) I was kind of getting a little worried…I could hear some guys creeping up behind me. We really have something figured out here. I’m not really sure what we changed but it’s really working,” said Roepke in the Engine Pro Victory Lane. “I want to thank JLH General Contractor for the extra $100 bucks tonight, the Village Inn, Perkins Tree Service, Johnny’s Electric…they gave us some funds this year to help keep us going.

Larson and Blaney would lead the field to the green of the 40-lap feature with Larson blasting into the lead with Blaney, Shane Stewart, Sam Hafertepe, Shaffer, Stevie Smith, Lee Jacobs and Greg Wilson in pursuit. Larson set a blistering pace on the fast track, catching the rear of the field by lap seven. Looking like a seasoned veteran, Larson patiently worked his way through the heavy traffic and by lap 12 had some clear track and opened up a sizeable lead over Blaney, Stewart, Shaffer, Hafertepe, Smith and Craig Mintz.

But, just three laps later, Larson encountered traffic again, this time they were racing side by side in front of him. However, Blaney could not close as Stewart, Shaffer and Smith waged a terrific battle for third. Cap Henry and Jared Ridge would stop exiting turn four on lap 25 for the only caution. On the restart Larson had a lapped car separating him from Blaney who had two lapped machines between himself and Shaffer. On the restart Chris Andrews got upside down to bring out the red.

On the restart Larson used the clean air and the lapped cars to open up a lead again, but not for long as Blaney quickly disposed of the traffic. Larson handed Blaney the break he needed on lap 28 when the leader slid off the top of turn two. Meanwhile Shaffer got around Stewart and was closing on the top two cars.

Larson and Blaney raced into heavy lapped traffic on lap 31 with Shaffer closing, and after completing the 32nd lap, Blaney would dive under Larson in turns one and two and drive off the bottom into the lead. Larson would stay to Blaney’s outside and Shaffer joined the fun a lap later. With five to go, Blaney, Larson and Shaffer were within a car length of each other for the lead while Stewart, Smith and Wilson gave chase.

Shaffer would take second on lap 36 and quickly raced to Blaney’s inside. Blaney and Shaffer would battle side by the side to the white flag with Larson falling back slightly. As they raced into three and four toward the checkered, Shaffer blasted to Blaney’s inside and slid up, the two nearly banging wheels as they had a drag race to the finish with Blaney winning by half a car. Blaney, Larson, Stewart, Smith and Wilson would round out the top five.

“I hate to lead races early, especially with him (Larson) behind you. He watched me the other night at Wayne County…well he really didn’t watch me long, he just drove by me, but I watched him a little bit. He was really good on the bottom early in one and two and then he kind of stayed up top and after he run off the cliff there in two, I thought he’d move down a little bit but he didn’t. We just took advantage of him…we were running second and traffic just went our way,” said Blaney of his winning strategy.

Dussel and Dustin Dinan would bring the field to the green in the 25 lap 305 sprint feature, but before a lap could be recorded, third starting D.J.Foos would spin in turn four. On the second attempt, Dussel would grab the lead over John Ivy, Dinan, Jamie Miller, Alvin Roepke, Caleb Griffith, Steve Rando and Jimmy Colvin. Dinan would bobble on lap three, allowing Roepke, Griffith, Miller and Colvin to get by.

Dussel would catch the rear of the field on lap eight, but Ivy could not close as Roepke had his hands full with Griffith and Miller. The top five would continue to stay that way as they sliced and diced through lapped traffic. Griffith would finally steal third from Roepke on lap 16.

With five laps to go, Dussel held a commanding lead, with his only problem an occasional slip up against the cushion in turn four. But, Dussel would drive away for the win, with Ivy, Griffith, Roepke and Miller rounding out the top five.

Curt Kinks and Dustin Keegan would bring the dirt truck field to the green for the 20 lap affair, but Inks would spin before a lap could be completed. On the second start, Kent Brewer would grab the lead over Keegan, Art Ball, John Ivy and Roepke. Keegan would soon fade with mechanical issues as Ball, Ivy and a rapidly closing Roepke pursued Brewer. Ball and Roepke would drive under Brewer on lap three with Ivy grabbing third a lap later. Roepke would drive under Ball for the lead on lap five and pulled away as Ball had his hands full with Ivy and Jimmy McGrath Jr.

As Roepke continued to pull away, Ivy would steal second from Ball on lap eight with McGrath trying to hold off Cory Ward and Brian Sorg. The caution would fly on lap 12 for a Brewer spin with the running order Roepke, Ivy, Ball, McGrath and Ward. On the restart, Ball would take second back from Ivy as Roepke again pulled away.

The caution flew again on lap 17 when Bob Dible’s machine briefly caught fire under the hood. A lap and another caution, this time for Keith Sorg. On the restart, Roepke could not pull away from Ball and Ivy as Ward and McGrath in pursuit. As they raced to the white flag, Roepke now had to deal with Ivy and Ball as the three waged a terrific battle. But, Roepke would hold steady for the win over Ivy, Ball, McGrath Jr. and Ward.

Fremont Speedway will host the 30th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek finale on Saturday, June 30, paying the winner of the 50-lap feature $10,000. The dirt trucks and 305 sprints will be in action as well.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FREMONT, Ohio – Back in the 1960s and early 1970s, sprint cars mainly competed without the use of the wing bolted on the rollcage. And Fremont Speedway, which is celebrating its 61st season of racing, was no different. But, over the past three decades, sprint cars have mainly utilized the aerodynamics of the those top foils. That changes Saturday, May 12 at “The Track That Action Built.”

The Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series is gearing up for a historical tour of the Buckeye State that will kick off at Fremont Speedway on Root’s Poultry Night. In the storied history of Ohio auto racing, which began in 1897, there has never been a touring non wing sprint car series devoted to the state. The BOSS tour is excited to set the stage at one of the oldest and premiere facilities on the schedule, explained BOSS President Aaron Fry.

The traditional style BOSS sprint cars made their debut in 2011 with 2 events. Ione, California native Justin Grant scored the win at K-C Raceway aboard the Hery Motorsports #40. In October, 30 cars from 8 states competed at Wayne County Speedway where Russiaville, Indiana driver Dustin Smith scored a popular win piloting the #37 Lee's Hydraulics entry. The question now is when will the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series have it's first winner from the Buckeye State?

Drivers from 5 states have expressed interest in the Fremont opener which is being co-sanctioned with the Lane Automotive Michigan Traditional Sprint Series. Fans will delight in "Root's Poultry Night" which will also include the Kistler Racing Products FAST (Fremont Attica Sprint Title) winged sprint car series and the Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks. A full field of BOSS and MTS points runners will be on hand, gunning for the $2,000 winners share and to battle the best of the local non wing racers. Several 305 sprint teams have also expressed an interest in taking the wing off and the BOSS series is proud to announce that Kear's Speed Shop in Tiffin, Ohio has come on board to sponsor a $100 bonus to the highest finishing steel block motor in the main event.

In addition to the $100 cash steel block bonus, drivers will also be competing for a $50 cash Hard Charger of the race award sponsored by Letemgrow.org. This award will go to the driver advancing the most positions in the A-Main event. A "Hard Luck" Award $50 gift certificate is also being awarded by BOSS officials courtesy of Saldana Race Products and SBI Fuel Systems. 2Grafic Distributions will provide framed photos of the A-Main and B-Main winners.

Once again, Hoosier Racing Tire and American Racer have come on board to sponsor driver bonuses to the highest A-Main finisher on all four of their brand of tire. The Hoosier tire bonus will be a certificate for a free right rear tire and the American Racer bonus will be a $100 certificate toward the purchase of any American Racer Tire. The BOSS series has an open tire rule, but drivers are limited to using the same right rear in their heat race and the A-Main event.

In other BOSS news, several new sponsors have come on board to help with the 2012 season and the points fund. BOSS would like to welcome All Pro Cylinder Heads, Kears Speed Shop, 2Grafic Distributions, Pro Shocks, SBI Fuel Systems, Saldana Race Products, Cleanway Carpet Cleaning, E.A. Home Supply, Hoosier Race Tire, American Racer, Ham Signs, Letemgrow.org, French Grimes Race Systems, ProStar Web Design and Indy Race Parts to the tour. In addition, the BOSS series would like to welcome Rick Lane and Rick Rarer as the official photographers of the series.

For the Fremont Speedway event, gates will open at 4 pm with racing action underway at 7 pm. Drivers are reminded that Schoenfeld Mufflers are required at Fremont along with Raceceivers. Fremont also uses transponders to help accurately score and time the racing events. There are no membership fees or sign-up fees to race with BOSS. This event will go by pill draw for heat race line-ups. Drivers who plan to attend this, or any BOSS events should contact the series to be included in promotional materials. Driver Signups and Pill Draw will be done at the BOSS tent which will open at 4 pm on raceday. Fremont Speedway will be paying in checks for this event.

The complete payout is as follows: 1) $2000 2) $800 3) $600 4) $500 5) $450 6) $400 7) $375 8) $350 9) $325 10) $300 11) $280 12) $260 13) $250 14) $240 15) $225 16) $225 17) $225 18) $225 19) $225 20) $225. All cars who make an honest attempt at competing will be guaranteed $100 tow money, including all B-Main non transfers.

For more information on the BOSS series, please log onto the series website at http://www.buckeyesprints.com or call (740) 703-3768. The BOSS series is looking for sponsors interested in helping with the bonus programs at each event. Sponsorship packages start as low as $50 to be a part of the much appreciated bonus awards.

PORT ROYAL, PA (4-28-12) By Brian Liskai - Confidence. Simply put, it s important in any sport, but particularly in sprint car racing. And when Greg Hodnett of Thomasville, Pa. walks through the gates at Port Royal Speedway, he exudes confidence. He led 29 of the 30 laps of the Weikert s Livestock University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions Bob Weikert Memorial Saturday to take home $10,000 plus $2,900 in lap money.

I m very fortunate to have a team that has always run well here. We had a little racing luck tonight several guys didn t transfer from their heat and that put us in the dash and we were able to capitalize and start up front in the feature. I don t know what it is, but this place just fits my driving style. I ve been good here since the first time I raced here with the All Stars in 1998, said Hodnett beside his Trone Outdoor, Eagle Steel, Macri Concrete, H&H Excavating, Apple Chevrolet, Eagle Evergreens, Brickers backed #39.

It was Hodnett s second consecutive win of the Bob Weikert Memorial and his third win of 2012 at Port Royal. He now has 27 career victories at Port Royal. Hodnett now has six wins in 2012. The UNOH All Star victory is Hodnett s 15th career win with the series.

The UNOH All Star drivers fared well at the Juniata County oval, taking four of the top seven finishing positions against the Pennsylvania Posse.

Watertown, Connecticut s David Gravel and Hodnett started on the pole and flew the UNOH All Star colors high throughout the event after leading the first lap, as did third place starter Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania s Danny Holtgraver.

After Gravel led the first circuit of the race, Hodnett pulled a slider in the first corner to take the lead and began to pull away. Hodnett s pace was halted before three laps could be completed however when fifth starter Stevie Smith looped his car exiting turn two and got hit hard by Blaine Heimbach. The red flag unfurled for the crash that saw Heimbach s #12 turn over. There were no injuries, but both drivers were done for the night.

Hodnett restarted in control and flew away the final 28 non-stop laps.

Holtgraver blasted into second on lap 11 after a spirited battle with Gravel, and for a short time, was able to close on Hodnett as he worked lapped traffic. But, Hodnett s experience at the oval was just too much, as he was able to extend his lead over the last half of the event, taking the checkered with nearly a half track advantage. Holtgraver, competing at Port Royal for the first time in his career, would finish second followed by Gravel. The top three finishers would receive a jacket from the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum.

Fourth went to Sam Hafertepe Jr. with All Star regular Paul McMahan finishing fifth. All Star East Region point leader Daryn Pittman would come home sixth with three time series champion and current national points leader Dale Blaney seventh followed by Aaron Ott, Mark Smith and Fred Rahmer.

I caught him (Hodnett) once in traffic, but once he got clear he was gone. I m happy as hell to hold on to second having never seen this place before. It s a fun track very fast. I can t wait to come back here, said Holtgraver beside his Kargo Quality Cars, Alternative Power Source, Mel Bagley Auto Service, BKW Transport backed machine.

Gravel too expressed how impressed he was with Hodnett s performance. I don t know what they did between the dash and feature we beat him pretty good in the dash. What ever it was, he was gone. We will take third and continue to work hard. I know we have some wins coming our way, said Gravel beside his Musco Fuel, P&M Transportation, JRC Transportation, Model Craft backed #89G.

Heat races for the 38-car field worth $100 each in honor of late journalist Jerry Reigle as sponsored by hoseheads.com went to Tim Shaffer, Chad Layton, Brian Montieth and Doug Esh.

Jac Haudenschild set fast time over the stellar field with a fast lap of
15.693 seconds, just off of the track record of 15.652. Haudenschild pocketed $200 for his efforts.

Gravel won the dash to earn the pole for the feature and set a new six-lap track record with a time of 1:40.595.

Rahmer set a new 12-lap track record by scoring the B Main with a time of 3:30.028.
Mike Erdley, who suffered motor ills in warm-ups and scratched for the night, and Nate Snyder each received $100 as the highest drivers in Port Royal points who failed to qualify for the event. The awards were sponsored by Crankwerkz of Newville and Guisewite Moving Services of Paxtonville.

UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions

Mechanicsburg, PA (4-27-12) By Brian Liskai There's a new Pennsylvania Posse member in town and his name is Logan Schuchart. The high school senior scored his first career victory at the historic Williams Grove Speedway Friday and his first career win against the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions.

Schuchart, whose car is owned by his hall of fame grandfather Bobby Allen, held off Danny Dietrich to score the $5,000 Lawrence Chevrolet sprint car win. With that first win under his belt, Schuchart, 19, only has 42 more All Star wins to record to catch Allen who is ninth on the series all-time win list with 43 victories.

With the victory, Schuchart, who hails from Hanover, Pa., moves the Pennsylvania Posse's win streak against the travelling All Stars to 25-0 at Williams Grove.

Dietrich, who won the track s season opener in March, would stay within striking distance of Schuchart after the youngster took the lead on lap 3, but the youngster never altered, running smooth and straight along the inside line of the fast half-mile.

I could hear Danny back there, he had to be close I heard a motor behind me, said Schuchart beside his Shark Racing, Rick Fogle and Sons Custom Pole Buildings, Speedway 94, Don Ott Engines, Bealing Homes, C& B Mushrooms backed #1s. Then, when we got that caution with two to go there was water splashed up on the track in three and four and they threw a bunch of loose dirt on it and I had to change my line. But, the car was very darn good and it stuck.

Congrats to Logan on his first win. He was great on the bottom. I couldn t run down there we were just way too tight, said Dietrich beside his Sandoe s Fruit Market, APM Building.com, Route 30 Seafood, Kendall Motor Oil, Alwine Farms, Whisler s Dry Cleaning backed machine. All night it took two to four laps before our car would rotate through the corners and that probably cost us the raced tonight.

We have a first, second, fourth and seventh at the Grove this season and probably had two other top five runs but had rockers break. It s been a great season so far, added Dietrich.

UNOH All Star regular Paul McMahan would lead the field which saw 47 competitors sign in for the night to the green and took the early lead.

Schuchart, who started outside the front row, would use an inside move off turn two to grab the lead with two laps recorded.

Veteran Donnie Krietz and Dietrich were moving through the top five and as McMahan slid back with steering woes. Schuchart continued to run a smooth race as Krietz and Dietrich closed and raced each other hard for second.

Even in lapped traffic Schuchart maintained the lead, driving like a seasoned veteran one mistake and Dietrich was there to pounce.

The only caution of the feature flew with two laps to go as Steve Buckwalter stopped on the inside of the front stretch after flames erupted from under the hood.

That yellow was the last thing I wanted to see, said Schuchart.
I thought he might crack under pressure there. I ve been there. When you are trying to get that first win and you know you have someone fast behind you I had hoped to rattle his chains and get him thinking too much. But, he held his composure and hit his marks. He did an awesome job on that restart, said Dietrich.

But, Schuchart was up to the challenge on the restart and was able to hold on for the win over Dietrich, Kreitz, Greg Hodnett and Daryn Pittman.

Stevie Smith, McMahan, Dale Blaney, Tim Shaffer and Brian Montieth completed the top 10.
