Third Time's a Charm for Thomas at Pevely

Saturday, August 4th, Pevely, MO - Snapping a winless streak at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55, Tyler Thomas claimed the POWRi Lucas Oil National and West Midget League show, leading all 30 laps on his way to a dominant victory over a hard-charging Jason McDougal and POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League point leader Tucker Klaasmeyer. Thomas's victory in the 2018 Ironman is the 11th of his career and his first with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League in 2018.

Starting on the pole, Thomas wasted no time at the drop of the green flag, taking to the top side of the high-banked 3/8 mile while Ryan Robinson and Karter Sarff filled in the top three. Enduring several cautions, Thomas took advantage of every restart, deflecting early challenges from Robinson, and eventually Jason McDougal in the final laps.

As the laps wound down, a final caution setup a two lap, mad-dash to the finish, with hard-charging Jason McDougal in second behind Thomas, followed by Klaasmeyer. At the drop of the green, McDougal worked the bottom in one and two as Thomas remained committed to the top side. Never faltering, Thomas took the checkers followed by McDougal and Klaasmeyer. Zach Daum rebounded to take fourth, while Ryan Robinson completed the podium.

"It's been a trying year for us," stated Tyler Thomas. "We obviously changed a lot throughout the year. We've been behind it seems like and missed a lot of races. We finally got things rolling. This Spike Chassis is on a rail. We've got Bobby Barth here, he's helped us out a lot here over the years. He built us a really good set of shocks at Advanced Racing Suspensions. This Toyota motor built by Speedway, it rips. I just can't thank everybody behind me enough. It just feels good to get them all a win. It feels good to get a win at Pevely. We've started on the front row three times and couldn't get it done the first two times, so I guess the third time's a charm."

"The way yesterday went, how hard we rebounded today, I can't thank my team enough," Jason McDougal said. "I've got to thank Scott Petry for giving me this opportunity. This is where we ended up. On the podium's good."

"Just finishing is important," commented Tucker Klaasmeyer. "I always want to be a couple spots better. We had a good car, about halfway through under the yellows you could kind of see the right rears in front of you looking a little worn. I probably should have pushed it a little harder there at the end, but it was a good race. Hat's off to Tyler. I know him and his family team have had some bad luck lately. It's always cool to see someone come back from some unfortunate mechanical failures and get a win. Congrats to Jason, too. We've been racing a long time together; since micros. It was fun getting to throw some sliders with him tonight, too."

Friday, August 3rd, Pevely, MO - Jerry Coons, Jr. claimed victory over Holly Shelton and Tucker Klaasmeyer in the POWRi Lucas Oil National and West Midget League sanctioned show at the Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55. Starting outside the second row, Coons immediately took to the bottom of the high-banked 3/8 mile lurched into the lead over Tyler Thomas and Holly Shelton. As Coons rolled the bottom, Thomas took to the rim while the field battled on back.

The only caution in the 25-lap feature, Jake Neuman suffered mechanical woes and came to a stop exiting turn two. With the field returning to green flag racing, Coons quickly entered lap traffic on lap 14. Deep in heavy traffic, Coons diced his way through as Shelton followed closely. On lap 18, Shelton briefly held the lead, but Coons quickly shut the door on lap 19, leading the remaining six to victory.

Following Coons and Shelton, current POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League point leader Tucker Klaasmeyer took third. Pole sitter Tyler Thomas finished fourth with Ryan Robinson rounding out the top five.

"It's been a few years. I don't remember my last win in anything," said Coons jokingly. "It's great to put this Petry Motorsports car in victory lane. It's been a long time coming. I can't thank all these guys enough. The Spike/Toyota was running great. Got a good start fortunately and got to the bottom. I guess that's what happens when you're old and run the miles. You're used to the concrete wall. We were originally supposed to be out in Pennsylvania, but Scott our car owner said let's just come here and run. As for tomorrow night, I won't be here. We've got our own Junior Sprint and my son's going to run that tomorrow night. I really want to be with him the first time running that car."

"Jerry was real good around the bottom," commented Shelton. "I knew if I was going to have anything for him, it'd be in lap traffic and I got around him there for a second. I probably should have shut the door, but he's hard in lap traffic and he's not going to miss the bottom. The guys gave me a great car. The Sirius XM/Toyota car is on an absolute rail right now. I'm just grateful to be here."

"I've got to remember to finish these races and not try to pound the fence down every time," said Tucker Klaasmeyer. "Sometimes you've got to take second or third, even though you want to go for it all the time. I definitely think I was in the right spot. They were good tonight. Hat's off to Jerry and the Petry crew. Those guys are super cool dudes and they work really hard, so they deserve some good runs. Holly's been running up front lately. It's just a good part of the season. Hopefully everything keeps going like this."

Seavey Takes Night Three of POWRi Illinois SPEED Week

Jacksonville, IL - At the end of the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League show at Jacksonville Speedway, Logan Seavey stood victorious for his fourth career win with the League. Seavey's victory came in the third night of the Sixth Annual POWRi Illinois SPEED Week. Tanner Thorson, the SPEED Week point leader heading into Jacksonville Speedway dropped out with mechanical woes in the feature event, deflating any chances he had of going three-in-a-row.

Starting ninth on the grid, Seavey went to work at the drop of the green flag while his fellow Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports teammate Tucker Klaasmeyer jockeyed for the lead with Tanner Thorson who led the opening lap. Taking control on lap two, Klaasmeyer commanded an impressive lead as Seavey worked through the field. By the red on lap ten for a gaggle of cars, including eventual second place finisher Ryan Robinson, Klaasmeyer had already approached traffic.

On the restart, Thorson fell off pace and was forced to the work area, but the issues the team suffered were enough to relegate them to the pit area for the rest of the event, ending his bid. Coming back to green, Klaasmeyer distanced himself from the field, but on lap 16 the red was displayed for Terry Babb who flipped after making contact with Brayton Lynch who jumped the cushion in turns three and four. Cannon McIntosh also was collected.

Returning to racing, Seavey sat in third behind Klaasmeyer and Tanner Carrick. After catching Klaasmeyer, Seavey engaged Klaasmeyer in series of slide jobs, but coming out of four on lap 22, neither driver was willing to give an inch, resulting in contact and a flat right rear for Klaasmeyer after brushing the outside wall.

Coming to the restart, Seavey held the top position to the checkered with Ryan Robinson and Zach Daum in tow. Joe B. Miller took fourth, with Karter Sarff in fifth.
"Our car was really, really good there," stated Logan Seavey. "Never like getting into our teammate there, but I felt like I did everything I could there. I'll watch the video, but I felt like he probably should have crossed me over. If it's my fault, I take full responsibility. Overall, just happy get these KKM cars back in victory lane."

"We were really good there," said Ryan Robinson. "It kind of sucked turning over in the first few laps, but I knew we had a really fast car and I knew we could get right back up there."

"I guess we're getting a little closer," commented Zach Daum. "It was just fun to watch these idiots try to take each other out there."

Thorson Goes Two-in-a-Row in POWRi Illinois SPEED Week Competition

Brownstown, IL - If there was any question about last night's dominating performance with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League at Belle-Clair Speedway in the opening night of the Sixth Annual POWRi Illinois SPEED Week, Tanner Thorson doubled down and won night two at Fayette County Speedway. By virtue of the pole position after earning high point honors, Thorson led every lap of the feature event, stretching his lead during long green flag runs.

Enduring three yellows and one open red, Thorson handily covered the competition while the battle for position from second through fifth intensified. Eventual second place finisher Tanner Carrick fended off fellow Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports teammates Logan Seavey and Tucker Klaasmeyer, as well as Clauson-Marshall's Zeb Wise, throughout much of the feature event. Defending POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League champion Logan Seavey narrowly held off and shut out a hard charging Zach Daum from taking the final podium position in the final lap.

With 22 laps completed, Ace McCarthy took a hard ride in turns three and four, flipping end over end, collecting Presley Truedson who had nowhere to go. Karter Sarff and Trey Marcham were also involved. McCarthy's flip resulted in an open red, stopping the action and setting up an eight lap mad dash to the finish.

In the final laps, Thorson still had the field covered, while Tanner Carrick took second and Logan Seavey narrowly edged Zach Daum for third. Zeb Wise finished fifth. Thorson's POWRi Illinois SPEED Week victory was the 18th of his career and his eighth POWRi Illinois SPEED Week win.

"This 3C has been on rails the last few weeks we've been out here," said Tanner Thorson. "I can't thank this team enough, they built one bad to the bone piece. Between our motor package, shock package and chassis, we've got a pretty awesome piece. I can't wait for tomorrow night."

"He was pretty good on the restarts," commented Tanner Carrick. "We were pretty good early in the race, but once the track got slick and we got up top, we were a second place car. If I didn't make that mistake on the last couple of laps, I might have had a chance to get back up to him, but I don't know."

"That was a lot of fun," said Logan Seavey. "There's a lot of people complaining on social media right now about midget racing, but I think that was a heck of a race there. Second through fifth were all really hard, clean racing. I just have to thank my team for giving me a great racecar. I just took way too long to get into rhythm."

Thorson Tops Night One of POWRi Illinois SPEED Week

Belleville, IL - By the time the checkered flew with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League, Minden, Nevada's Tanner Thorson stood on the front stretch taking the win in POWRi's Sixth Annual Illinois SPEED Week opener at Belle-Clair Speedway. Thorson's win at Belle-Clair is his seventh win during Illinois SPEED Week competition, adding to his hefty hedge over Michael Pickens, the next closest with three Illinois SPEED Week wins.

Starting mid-pack in the 9th position, Thorson charged through the field, quickly working his way towards the front to challenge for the lead. Eventually chasing down Ryan Robinson, and brief race leader Alex Bright, Thorson overtook the lead on lap 13 after swapping slide jobs with Robinson and Bright for the lead.

Approaching Thorson's takeover, Alex Bright briefly held the lead on lap 12 after pushing past Robinson. However, Thorson who had closed on the duo as they battled, drove right by Bright and into the lead, leaving the rest of the field to jockey for position.
Riding high on the tall Belle-Clair Speedway curb, Thorson methodically worked his way through lapped traffic as the clock wound down, lapping up to the 11th position. Bright captured the second position, after Ryan Robinson threw a last corner slide job for position and after contact, was upside down coming to the checkered. Karter Sarff rounded out the podium after impressively driving to third, after starting 23rd by virtue of provisional. Pole sitter Terry Babb finished fourth with Logan Seavey in fifth.

"This team has worked their tails off to get this badass piece out here," said Tanner Thorson. "We ran USAC midget week and we probably should have walked away with a couple wins. This car is showing all the speed it has and tonight it definitely had a lot. I love the crowd here and I love this place. I think I've won five straight races here now. This place is awesome. I can't thank my whole team enough."

"We had a really good car there early on, but when the track slicked off we were a little loose and struggled a little bit," stated Alex Bright. "But, helluva job to Tanner and Ryan Robinson there up until that last lap. Running with these guys, we figured something out and went back to our old ways. I just want to thank everybody that came out tonight and we're looking forward to tomorrow."

"That was a lot of fun," commented Karter Sarff. "It's definitely good to get a podium for the first night of SPEED Week. We're ready for the rest of the week."
