UMBENHAUER FIRST TIME MODIFIED WINNER THIS SEASON, MANMILLER FIRST TO WIN TWO THIS SEASON IN MODIFIEDS, SCHUTZ AND SWINEHART WIN IN LATE MODELS AND SPORTSMAN ON A.D.MOYER LUMBER NIGHT AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. JULY 16, 2017 – Jared Umbenhauer, Doug Manmiller, Chuck Schutz and Dylan Swinehart were in the limelight in their respective divisions in Saturday night’s A.D. Moyer Lumber Co. NASCAR stock car racing action at Grandview Speedway.

Umbenhauer, shut out of the winner’s circle since his rookie win September 5, 2015, has been close on various occasions to claim a victory; but was always hampered with some kind of problem. Things turned around for the Richland Rocket when he overtook Kenny Gilmore on the 24th lap of the T.P. Trailers 358 NASCAR Modified 30-lap feature that was postponed by rain on June 24 to claim his first win of the season to become the tenth different winner.

Manmiller became the first repeat Modified feature winner in the A.D. Moyer sponsored portion of the show after a hard-fought battle with Brett Kressley and Mike Gular that went down to the wire.

The BRC NASCAR Late Model 20-lap feature wasn’t decided until the wave of the checkered. Bryon Sipe led from the start until the 18th lap when Chuck Schutz got by him, Sipe regained it the next lap, but in a drag-out down-to-the line dual off the final corner, it was Schutz chalking up his third win of the season. Sipe displayed sportsmanship by congratulating Schutz.

In NASCAR Sportsman action the 25-lap feature was up for grabs between Swinehart, Brad Arnold and Joe Funk III. Swinehart, who was sidelined the previous week due to engine problems, was back in top form and prevailed the victor for his second triumph of the current campaign.

All feature winners received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers and also product certificates from VP Racing Fuels providing they met the necessary requirements.

On the restart of the rained-out Modified feature Gilmore grabbed the early lead trailed by Steve Swinehart, Kyle Weiss, John Willman and Duane Howard, before Howard dropped out with mechanical problems.

Weiss took over second on lap six to put his bids in for the lead.

A second turn spin by Kyle Borror brought out the 12th lap caution. The restart was void after Clay Butler and Mark Kratz tangled in turns one and two. Gilmore maintained the pace, but now Umbenhauer was second trying to outmaneuver Gilmore.

Gilmore stuck to the inside trek while Umbenhauer ran the high line as the laps wound down.

The lead changed for the final time on the 24th lap when Umbenhauer switched lanes as he experienced trouble with the right front when he ran the outside and made the move stick.

Umbenhauer never surrendered first to capture the win. Chasing him across was Gilmore, who never gave Umbenhauer a chance to slip-up; Manmiller, Weiss and Jeff Strunk.

Once that portion was completed qualifying events were run with Howard, Harris and Gilmore winning the events. The consi went to Brian Krummel.

Brian Houseknecht was the early leader in the second feature that was red-flagged when Kevin Hirthler somehow was on top of the third turn boilerplate. He injured his elbow and the car was done for the night. Houseknecht was still first when action resumed while Esposito, Brett Kressley, John Willman and Frank Cozze tussled for positions.

The yellow was out on lap nine after Willman and Howard made contact off turn four and until things cleared Colt Harris hit the second turn wall and was out of contention. Behind Houseknecht on this restart was Kressley and he was trying feverishly to pass him.

While running third and fourth in the thick of the battle, Cozze and Gular made contact and Cozze spun in the third turn for the 13th lap caution. This restart saw the front three get together and kept going, but veteran campaigner “The Handler” Manmiller took advantage of this incident to put the Jason Miller-owned No. 44M at the front of the pack.

Manmiller ran the bottom while Kressley gained ground on the outside to pressure him.

Behind Manmiller and Kressley, the battle brewed between Gular, Howard and Strunk.

Manmiller never looked back and was in victory lane for his 26th career win followed by Kressley, Gular, Howard and Strunk.

Sipe charged into the early led of the Late Model feature pressured by Danny Snyder, Blaine Emery, Steve Todorow and Wayne Pfeil.

Sipe on the outside and Snyder down low were side-by-side for the lead and numerous times Snyder pulled even with Sipe, but each time Sipe emerged the leader.

Snyder’s bad luck continued when he slowed with a right flat rear tire for the final yellow on the 15th lap. Sipe was able to keep Schutz behind when action went green again, but he had his work cut out.

Schutz passed Sipe with two to go, but Sipe was back in front the next lap.

Coming off the final turn and the checkered in sight, Schutz gave it one last try and was successful in his efforts as he picked up the win with Sipe a very close second followed by Emery, Todorow and Pfeil.

The Sportsman feature was Joe Funk III taking the early lead at the onset.

John McGovern, while running second, spun between the third and fourth turn for the second lap yellow. On the restart Swinehart charged to the outside to become the new leader with Funk III giving him no margin to error.

It didn’t take long for a three-way battle to develop between Swinehart, Funk III and Brad Arnold. Right behind were Mike Lisowski and Craig Whitmoyer waiting for an opportunity for advancement’

Ryan and Kyle Lilick spun in turn four on the 13th lap. Jim Housworth was sent to the rear for starting the mishap along with the involved Lilick’s. The single-file restart was brought back to the line after Kyle Lilick spun Housworth. As a result of his actions, Lilick was sent pit side out of competition. Swinehart was still number one on the restart while Funk III and Arnold dueled for second.

Arnold took over the runner-up spot on the 21st lap and if he intended to pass Swinehart, he was going to have to take the long way around because Swinehart switched to the inside.

Swinehart hung on for his third career win which he thanked his skeleton crew since some were missing and also Bob Sheidy for his long hours in the machine shop. Capturing his season best finish was Arnold followed by Funk III, Lisowski and Ryan Beltz.

Swinehart, McGovern and Arnold won the heats. The consi was won by Ryan Lilick.

On the schedule for next Saturday, July 22nd, is Hatfield Quality Meats night featuring the NASCAR TP Trailers 358 Modifieds, BRC Late Models and Sportsman along with the Blast from the Past Vintage Racers. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. with racing getting the green at 7:30 p.m.

CHUCK SCHUTZ TAKES HOME MORE THAN $2000 AS WINNER OF FIRECRACKER 40 LATE MODEL RACE AT GRANDVIEW, WHITMOYER GETS SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON WITH NASCAR SPORTSMAN, MIKE GULAR GETS FIRST 2017 TP TRAILERS 358 MODIFIED WIN AND BRAD GRIM COMES HOME FIRST IN SECOND SPORTSMAN FEATURE. BRETT PETERS WINS VINTAGE FEATURE

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. July 9, 2017 Fans that attended the racing action on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway certainly got their money’s worth. All feature events had side-by-side, three to four wide action throughout their respective shows that produced two repeat winners, two season first winners that included a first career win.

The highlight of the night was the Firecracker 40-lap BRC NASCAR Late Model feature that was won by defending point champion and current point leader Chuck Schutz for a payday worth in excess $2,000. Schutz, who last won the event in 2010, dedicated the win to long-time supporter Carl Knauer who passed away. It was a long race commented Schutz in victory lane and he’s glad he could conserve his tires and that they held up in the battles with runner-up Ron Kline, who last won the race in 2011.

The 30-lap T.P. Trailers 358 NASCAR Modified feature wasn’t decided until the drop of the checkered. Brett Kressley appeared to be on his way to another win, but coming in for the checkered he had to go high to get around lapped traffic. It was all Mike Gular, who has been knocking on the door of victory lane for several weeks, needed. Gular took advantage of the situation and dove underneath Kressley and it was a drag race to the finish line, but Gular parked the Rich Stankewicz-owned No. 2 in victory lane for the first time this year ending a six-year winless drought.

In the 25-lap NASCAR Sportsman make-up feature rained out June 24, Craig Whitmoyer overtook the lead from Ryan Higgs on the 12th lap and was able to hold off the late race challenges of second-place finisher Brad Grim to chalk up his second win of the season.

Brad Grim finished one spot higher in the second Sportsman feature. He overtook Jack Butler on the 16th lap and proceeded to put the Mike Stringer-owned No. 23 in the winner’s circle for his first career win at the 1/3-mile banked clay oval.

All the regular feature event winners received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers and Truck Equipment and product certificates from VP Fuels providing they met all the mandatory requirements.

There have now been 22 different feature winners this season at Grandview in the NASCAR sanctioned divisions of racing.

Brett Peters won the Modified portion of the Blast From The Past 15-lap feature while Andy Cassel copped the Vintage Car section since all divisions were combined for their feature.

Brian Shuey led five laps of the Late Model feature before Kyle Merkel charged to the front of the pack on the sixth lap restart needed when Drew Weiss spun along the homestretch.

Within a few laps behind Merkel dueling for second were Schutz and Kline trailed by Bryon Sipe and Danny Snyder, winner of the event in 2012 and 2013.

Earlier leader Shuey, who was gradually falling off the pace, brought out the yellow on the 14th lap when he stopped in turn four with a right rear flat.

Merkel maintained his position when action resumed, but now Kline was second challenging for first.

After a while Merkel had a slight edge built up due to the fact that Kline and Schutz had their own battle going.

Schutz put the Ty Zeigler-owned/PPB No. ONE in second and set off after Merkel.

The lead changed on the 27h lap as Merkel hopped the fourth turn cushion and almost hit the boilerplate. By the time he corrected the mishap Schutz was past him and quickly out-distanced himself and was running away from his fellow competitors.

Numerous restarts were needed, but that didn’t deter Schutz and he went on to score another Firecracker 40 win and his second win of the season. Chasing him across were Kline, Snyder, Merkel and Sipe.

Mike Kellner grabbed the early lead in the Modified feature and set the pace for eight laps before he spun in the fourth turn. Kressley jumped the cushion, hit the wall, but was able to avoid the spun car of Kellner to become the new leader. John Willman, who was third at the time, wasn’t as fortunate and got involved in the mishap putting him out of contention along with Kellner. On the restart Kressley held on to the lead with Kyle Borror, Addison Meitzler, Kenny Gilmore and Ryan Grim in pursuit.

Gilmore, who battled with Borror for second several laps, finally broke free on the 14th lap and took chase Kressley who encountered lap traffic and had to thread his way through.

Coming through to the front of the pack from his 12th starting grid was Gular. He advanced to third with ten to go and was on the move.

Kressley was still ahead with three laps to go, but now Gular was second and charging with a full head of steam and lap traffic was in the picture.

Coming in for the checkered Kressley had to go up on the track to get around the cars, as did the others. Gular dove down low for the drag race finish and Gular emerged a well-deserved crowd-pleasing winner. Kressley crossed the line second, however after tech was placed last due to a fuel issue. Second was awarded to Gilmore, for his best finish of the season followed by Duane Howard, coming off a Tuesday night win; Frank Cozze and Kyle Borror.

Kellner, Meitzler and Kressley won the heats. The consi was won by Ray Swinehart.

In the make-up 25-lap Sportsman feature, left from a previous rained out event, Derrick Smith set the pace for one lap before Ryan Shupp took over.

Shupp’s lead was short-lived as Ryan Higgs got by him on the third lap restart brought out by a ten-car fourth turn melee. Whitmoyer followed through as the same time to challenge.

The lead changed on lap 12 when Whitmoyer motored into first and Grim overtook second to begin the battle.

Whitmoyer stuck to the high line and Grim ran the bottom in their side-by-side battle.

Whitmoyer thought he was running out of gas because he felt he was losing power, but he still hung on for the win followed by Grim, current point leader Brian Hirthler, Jim Housworth and Butler.

The June 24 qualifying event show winners were Grim, Higgs and Butler while Hirthler scored the consi win.

Once the rained out feature was completed, qualifying events were held. Brad Arnold, Paul Houseknecht and Ryan Lilick won the heats. The consi winner was Louden Reimert.

In the second Sportsman feature polesitter Shupp grabbed the early lead and held that spot for 11 laps before Butler took control. No sooner did butler pass Shupp going into the first turn, Joe Funk III, in third, made contact with Shupp and Shupp spun. Funk III was sent to the back of the pack for the mishap.

Lined up behind Butler on the restart were Grim, Kyle Lilick, Mike Lisowski and Mark Kemmerer.

The lead changed on the 16th lap when Grim succeeded to get past Butler and immediately began opening some daylight.

Grim, who felt the car ran better on the dryer track, never looked back and went on to chalk up a well-earned win. Second went to Butler for his best run, followed by Lisowski, Housworth and Ryan Beltz.

The Blast From The Past feature saw Todd Lapp lead the first lap and Mike Kelly lead the second through fifth until the caution came out for a first turn spin. On the restart Brett Peters took over first and never surrendered the position to take the checkered in the event in the Modified class. Doug Stepanchule was second with Andy Cassel third in the Vintage division trailed by Mike Garris Sr. and Todd Lapp.

Two TP Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified features along with Sportsman and BRC Late Model racing will be the attraction on Saturday, July 15th at 7:30 p.m. The night of action packed NASCAR stock car racing will be sponsored by A.D. Moyer Lumber Co.

Then on Sunday at 1 p.m. the Blast from the Past Vintage Racers will be in action along with the Outlaw Enduro racers. Enduros will feature 100-laps for Big Cars, 100-laps for Small Cars along with Junkyard Cars for 50-laps and a Ladies race.

KRESSLEY, KLINE AND LISOWSKI SCORE NASCAR FEATURE WINS AT GRANDVIEW SATURDAY

20 FEATURE WINNERS IN EIGHT WEEKS OF RACING

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. June 18, 2017 . . . Ma Nature was defeated at Grandview Speedway on Saturday as afternoon showers looked as if they would force another show to be cancelled. However management held off and the track crew did a great job to make racing possible.

Brett “The Threat” Kressley, the 2016 Grandview Modified rookie, struggled early in the season with numerous mechanical and engine issues. Making a rare Grandview appearance on Saturday night, the Orefield leadfoot took the lead on the fourth lap of the TP Trailers 358 NASCAR Modified 30-lap feature on Saturday night at the 1/3-mile oval. He then went on to capture his first win of the year to be the eighth different winner in the class. Runner-up Duane Howard was closing fast in the later stages, but ran out of time. Brett gave a shout out to his dad Brian as the victory was an early Father’s Day present.

The BRC NASCAR Late Model 20-lap feature saw Ron Kline lead from green to checkered and win his fourth feature behind the wheel of the Wanda Brown-owned No. 3.

Mike Lisowski, who has been having his share of bad luck, finally had things go his way for a change. The Minersville speedster pulled into the winner’s circle to chalk up his first triumph of the season in the 25-lap NASCAR Sportsman feature.

All events were televised by RCN-TV and every feature winner received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers and product awards from V.P. Race Fuels providing they met the proper requirements.

Bobby Gunther-Walsh led three laps of the Modified feature before Kressley made a bold outside move going into the third turn and emerged as the new leader when the pair came out of the fourth turn.

While Kressley began to pull away from the pack, Gunther-Walsh, Kenny Gilmore, Ryan Grim and Mike Gular diced for second through fifth.

Gilmore overtook second on the eighth lap and set said after Kressley to try to reel him in.

The pack regrouped on the tenth lap when last week’s feature winner Frank Cozze was spun in the second turn by Kyle Borror who was placed to the rear for the incident. Kressley held his own on the restart, but now Gular was the one pressuring him for first while Howard, Gilmore and Jeff Strunk were right behind waiting for a false move.

The front runners led by Kressley encountered lap traffic at the conclusion of 20 laps and had to use heads-up driving tactics.

After the tenth lap caution period, no more restart were needed and even though the pack closed in on Kressley through the slower traffic he never faltered and was able to record his second career with a rapidly closing Howard followed by Gular, Gilmore, for his season best finish and Strunk. Strunk’s fifth-place finish put him at the head of the point leader board since Craig Von Dohren, the point leader going into the show finished back in ninth.

Gunther-Walsh, Joe Fanelli and Kressley won the heats. The consi went to Borror.

Polesitter Kline ran off and hid at the start of the Late Model feature while Wayne Pfeil, Danny Snyder, Kyle Merkel and Steve Todorow diced for positions.

Todorow’s night ended when he slowed along the homestretch for the seventh lap caution putting him out of contention. It was still Kline in front when action resumed.

Snyder, who made his return for his first start of the season after missing several years, brought out the yellow on the ninth lap. Pfeil made a run on Kline on the restart, but within no time Kline was long gone being chased down by Merkel, Brian Shuey and Chuck Schutz.

More restarts were needed, but that didn’t deter Kline as he parked it in victory lane for his 40th career win. Finishing second was Pfeil followed by Merkel, Shuey and Schutz.

The late models will be out of action until Saturday, July 1 when they will compete in the Firecracker 40-lap Late Model feature.

Sportsman feature action had Steve Young set the pace for six laps until Lisowski got by him for the top spot on the seventh circuit.

With Lisowski now in command jockeying for positions behind him were Young, Craig Whitmoyer, Paul Houseknecht and Brian Hirthler, the current point leader.

Whitmoyer finally got by Young on the 13th lap to take chase after Lisowski who opened up a huge advantage over his fellow competitors.

The red was thrown with five laps to go setting up a single file restart when Mike Mammana hit the third turn wall with heavy impact. He was uninjured, but the car sustained considerable damage. Lisowski managed to hold the lead while Whitmoyer, Hirthler, Ryan Lilick and Houseknecht tried to change the status.

Lisowski’s and his crews continuous long hours prepping the car paid off as he was able to score his eighth career win chased across the line by Whitmoyer, Hirthler, R. Lilick and Houseknecht, for his best finish ever.

Heats were won by Young, Jeromy Guistwite and Nathan Mohr. Jim Housworth won the consi.

Next on the schedule at Grandview is the first appearance of the new Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series. The 305 Sprint group will be part of the June 24th Bechtelsville Car Wash Night featuring the Sprints, TP Trailers 358 Modifieds and Sportsman. Heading up the expected strong contingent of Sprints will be Doylestown’s Tim Tanner who is coming off a big win at Delaware Int’l Speedway. And fans will be looking to see who will be the next racer to join the long list of feature winners so far this season. Adult admission for the special night will be $18. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. And Bechtelsville Car Wash will also sponsor a Modified Cash Dash.

Grandview Speedway continues to be one of the most successful NASCAR WEEKLY short track operations in the nation having been presenting stock car racing events under the Rogers family promotion for the past 55 years. The season at Grandview continues from late March to November. The one-third-mile, banked clay track is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. A full line of concession and novelty items is offered. COZZE, SCHUTZ AND KYLE LILICK BECAME 16TH, 17TH AND 18TH DIFFERENT WINNERS OUT OF 21 NASCAR RACES PRESENTED THIS SEASON AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. June11, 2017 . . . Three different feature winners entered the record books on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway in their respective divisions in the Whelen Engineering sponsored racing events. The total different feature winners this season, out of 21 feature races presented, now stands at 18.

Veteran campaigner Frank Cozze piloted the Tom Umbenhauer-owned/Harry’s U-Pull-It No. 4 to his first win of the season in the TP Trailers 358 Modified NASCAR 30-lap feature. Cozze, a DIRT Hall of Famer, who had a disappointing finish last week, held off the last lap challenges of two others veterans of the sport Ray Swinehart and Craig Von Dohren to become the seventh different winner in the Modified division.

The BRC NASCAR Late Model division had a fifth different winner. Defending point champion and current point leader Chuck Schutz, who drove Andy Cassel’s car the previous week when the Ty Zeigler-owned No. ONE experienced problems, finished by a comfortable margin over runner-up and last week’s feature winner Ron Kline for his first 25-lap feature win of the season to be the fifth different winner in his normal ride.

Kyle Lilick was sidelined early in the NASCAR Sportsman 25-lap feature last week, but he more than made up for it on his next outing. The younger of the racing Lilick’s in the duo made up of older brother Ryan a two-time winner this year, overtook Jack Butler on the 18th lap and went on to capture his first career victory and become sixth different Sportsman winner of the season.

All feature winners received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers providing they met the requirements and product awards from V.P. Fuels if they run gas and have the proper decals and other specifications.

John Willman put the Dennis Bailey-owned No. 81 into the early lead at the start of the Modified feature with pressure from Colt Harris, Steve Swinehart, Cozze and Ray Swinehart.

By the conclusion of ten laps Harris erased the deficit Willman opened up to challenge him for the top spot.

The pack regrouped when Mike Kellner, who had a strong second place finish the previous week, stopped in the first turn for the 15th lap caution. On the restart Willman and now Cozze lined up side-by-side. When action resumed Cozze got somewhat out of shape. Willman ran over Cozzes’ front end and hit the homestretch infield tire for the yellow putting him out of contention and Cozze was the new leader. Cozze maintained the first spot on the next attempt.

Behind Cozze wheeling and dealing never giving up in their battle for positions were R. Swinehart, Mike Gular, Kevin Hirthler and Harris. In the thick of things for sixth through tenth were Doug Manmiller, Von Dohren, Ryan Watt, Jeff Strunk and Duane Howard.

By the 20th lap the order behind Cozze consisted of R. Swinehart, Von Dohren, Gular, Manmiller and Hirthler with the spots constantly being swapped back and forth.

Harris’ fine run ended when he found himself in the third turn wall bringing out the yellow on the 21st lap. Cozze didn’t falter on the restart leaving R. Swinehart, Hirthler, Von Dohren and Gular in pursuit.

While running third with five laps to go, Hirthler hopped the first turn cushion and lost valuable positions. By the time he got recollected, Von Dohren, Gular and Strunk already passed him.

Jared Umbenhauer, who got into the feature by virtue of winning the consi, and was on the move; set up a one lap shoot-out when he hit the homestretch wall with heavy impact for the final yellow. He was uninjured, but the car sustained considerable damage. Cozze kept the competition at bay on the restart and went on to chalk up his fifth career win at the oval. Chasing him across the line were Swinehart, Von Dohren, Gular and Strunk.

Kenny Gilmore, who was supposed the start fourth in the feature only to be towed off before the event started, Harris and Brett Kressley were the heat winners. Picking up the consi win was Umbenhauer.

Kyle Merkel set the pace for two laps of the Late Model feature before Wayne Pfeil stopped along the backstretch for the yellow. On the restart Merkel went too high off of turn four. Schutz took advantage of the situation and charged into the lead.

With Schutz now showing the way, Kline, Merkel, Steve Todorow and Andy Cassel diced for positions.

The comfortable lead Schutz built up was erased on the 16th lap caution needed when Steve Wilson and Lou Egrie Sr. tangled in turn three. When action went green Kline made a strong bid for first, but in no time Schutz pulled away again.

No one could catch Schutz to challenge him as he pulled into victory lane for his 45th career win trailed by Kline, Todorow, Merkel and Egrie Sr.

Jack Butler took the early lead at the drop of the green in the Sportsman feature with Kyle Lilick putting in his bids for the top spot.

Butler stuck to the high line while K. Lilick ran in the inside groove.

While Butler and Lilick jockeyed for first, behind them Ryan Higgs and Brad Arnold put on quite a dual for third. Waiting in the wings anticipating a false move in hopes of advancement was Ryan Beltz.

By the 18th lap the front runners came upon lap traffic. This aided K. Lilick since coming off turn four he got underneath Butler when Butler had to go up a bit to get around them and Lilick was the new leader.

The leader continued to be K. Lilick until he pulled into the winner’s circle for a well-deserved victory chased across by Butler, Arnold, Brad Grim and Higgs.

K. Lilick, Kurt Bettler and Butler won the heats. Mike Lisowski picked up the consi win.

Racing returns to Grandview Speedway with a Bob Miller/Rogers Family Thunder on the Hill promotion featuring the traveling United States Auto Club Wingless Sprint Cars and Small Block Modified doubleheader on Tuesday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m.

And on Saturday, June 17th, the NASCAR TP Trailers 358 Modifieds, Sportsman and BRC Late Models will be in action. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Adult admission is $15 and youngsters 6 through 11 are admitted FREE.

There has been a change made in the June 24th Bechtelsville Car Wash Night with the Blast from the Past Vintage cars removed from the night’s racing and moved to July 8th. The June 24th show will include TP Trailers 358 Modifieds, Sportsman and Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series sprinters. Admission is $18 for adults.
