NASCAR SPRINT CUP STAR JOEY LOGANO TO BE PART OF HUGE 30TH ANNIVERSARY PPB MOTORSPORTS 2015 RACE CAR AND TRADE SHOW AT GREATER PHILA EXPO CENTER

OAKS, PA January 3, 2015 . . . Joey Logano, the man who could very well become the next NASCAR Sprint Cup champion will visit with fans at the huge Pioneer Pole Buildings Motorsports 2015 Presented by Sunoco Race Fuels Distributed by Insinger Performance Race Car and Trade Show which is set to take place at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, Oaks, PA January 23-25. Many have indicated strong feelings that 24 year old Joey Logano, recently married, could very well take the title in 2015 based on the improvement he has shown in recent years and the big year he had with five Cup wins this past season.

Joey Logano was part of the championship battle final race of the 2014 season for the Sprint Cup cars at Homestead-Miami Speedway that featured him and three others (Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, and Denny Hamlin) battling for the lucrative NASCAR title. Logano finished fourth while Harvick went on to win the championship.

The young racer is looking to improve on the number of wins and be around at the end of the season to claim the title with his Roger Penske owned Ford entry. He will be at the show which fills all 250,000 square feet of the Expo Center on Saturday, January 24th from 1 to 3 PM.

Fans will be able to talk with Logano and collect free autographs.

Logano will join NASCAR car owner Tom Baldwin Jr. and veteran NASCAR driver Steve Park along with popular TV broadcaster and journalist Dick Berggren along with a host of other well-known motorsport personalities and competitors at the three day show that will attract thousands of fans. Event sponsor, Pioneer Pole Buildings, will have Philadelphia Eagles legendary running back Brian Westbrook at the show also on Saturday from 12 to 1 PM to meet fans and sign autographs.

“We have finalized some exciting plans for the 30th Anniversary,” said Sammons. “All of us involved in the production of the show are working very hard to make this a great anniversary celebration.”

For the first time in show history, a selection of racing vehicles will be showcased including two of Richard Petty's early career No. 43 race cars, the No. 9 Dodge driven by Bill Elliott to victory at the Indianapolis Speedway Brickyard and a USAC Midget that helped make Jeff Gordon famous.

The show will feature just about everything there is to be seen that relates to motorsports. Racers will find an expanded "Hardcore" dealer/ manufacture section with the latest in the industry either showcased or being sold at special show prices.

Exhibitor space remains but is very limited as the 30th anniversary show has attracted a huge amount of attention. Details on being an exhibitor can be had by contacting Danny Sammons or Tim Hogue at 609.888.3618. They can also be reached at tim@aarn.com or danny@aarn.com.

The very classy Crowne Plaza Valley Forge will serve as the host hotel and will again offer a discounted rate of $89 per night (plus taxes). The hotel is located just 7.5 miles from the Expo Center and is within walking distance of the popular King of Prussia Mall, the nation’s second largest retail complex with over 350 stores and close to 100 restaurants.

Again, for the 30th Anniversary, the Saturday night post show will continue and will be held in one of the large ballrooms at the hotel with music by DJ Sound and Lighting and bar specials from show sponsor Miller Lite.

JANKOWIAK WINS BATTLE OF TRENTON THREE QUARTER MIDGET 40 LAP INDOOR RACE; SECOND PLACE CHANGED CONSTANTLY; GARY HIEBER TAKES COMPANION SLINGSHOT FEATURE

TRENTON, NJ December 21, 2014 . . . Buffalo, N.Y. driver Andy Jankowiak started up front and finished there at the end of the 40-lap Battle Of Trenton TQ Midget feature Saturday night in Sun National Bank Center. Jankowiak was challenged by any number of racers who made it as far as second place only to be taken out by accidents or mechanical problems. Ryan Flores of Mooresville, N.C., was the eventual runner-up in the Len Sammons Motorsports Productions (LSRP) event.

In the companion 20-lap Lentini Auto Salvage Slingshot finale, Gary Hieber raced to the win in a rugged race that saw the Langhorne, Pa., ace move in front at mid-race, then pull away from the pack.

“I had to be good on all of the restarts,” said Jankowkiak. “There were a couple of times when Teddy (Ted Christopher) got my rear wheels off the ground but I held on to it.”

Second place behind Jankowiak was not the place to be on this night. Kyle Reinhardt was in the hot seat for the first four laps before he fell back after Christopher passed him on lap five. Erick Rudolph then assumed second following a restart by getting under Christopher but his stay ended abruptly on lap 23 when his car shut off coming down for a restart. Ryan Flores, close behind, spun and went to the rear of the field as a result.

This put Jimmy Blewett in second, up from a 25th place start. Blewett then spun after contact with Anthony Sesely. Enraged, Blewett slammed into Sesely under caution, ending his race. Sesely went to the rear.

Ryan Susice was elevated to second on the next start, at lap 25. Matt Janisch then gained second only to be passed by Christopher. Flores, who had been involved in a lap 23 spin, charged back through traffic to pass Christopher with six laps left only to have Christopher take the spot back a circuit later.

Over the final laps, Jankowiak remained perfect with Flores a solid and remarkable second, the eleventh and final time second place changed hands. Christopher was third, Mike Lichty a quiet fourth and Janisch fifth.

The welter of mishaps included one serious accident. On lap 15, Lou Cicconi, Jr., who had spun one lap earlier, slammed the fourth corner wall, stopping the race. Cicconi was extricated from his car with great care and precaution and was transported from the arena. Cicconi’s injuries were determined not to be of a serious nature; indeed as he was being wheeled across the track, Cicconi saluted the concerned spectators with the classic ‘wave to the crowd’ who cheered lustily.

#56 Gary Hieber (WoS photo)

Hieber’s Slingshot win came in an event that slowed numerous times by spins.

“Once I had a clear track, the only thing I had to worry about was lapped traffic,” Hieber said.

Ricky Yetter was the runner-up followed by Kurt Bettler, Taylor Eccles and Nick Shaw, who thrilled the fans with his outside groove racing which brought him all the way to second only to fall back with a softening tire over the final laps.

Next on the LSRP agenda is the 2015 Pioneer Pole Building’s Motorsports Racecar & Trade Show January 23-15, 2015 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, Oaks, Pa.

The second Indoor Racing event on the LSRP schedule is set for January 30-31, 2015 with the running of the NAPA Know How Atlantic City Indoor races inside historic Boardwalk Hall. TQ Midgets, Champ Karts and Lentini Auto Salvage Slingshots will be on the calendar with the TQ Midgets racing in feature events both nights.

ERICK RUDOLPH AND TED CHRISTOPHER REGISTER POWERFUL THREE QUARTER MIDGET WINS ON BATTLE OF TRENTON PRELIMINARY NIGHT; CHRIS DALEY DOMINATES CHAMP KART CO-FEATURE

TRENTON, NJ December 20, 2014 . . . – Erick Rudolph of Ransomville, N.Y., and Ted Christopher of Plainville, Ct., flexed their muscles Friday in the Battle Trenton Three Quarter (TQ) Midget Twin Twenty Lap feature races inside Sun National Bank Center in Trenton.

In the companion Champ Kart 20-lap feature, Chris Daley of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., a karting veteran of fifteen years, outran a star studded field to win a highly competitive feature.

The split-field TQ Midget races were a prelude to Saturday night’s Battle Of Trenton, to be run over a 40-lap distance. Tickets still remain for the Saturday night racing action and can be purchased at the box office.

In the first TQ Twin Twenty lap race, Rudolph powered his way by leader Joey Payne not once, but twice, after the first early race double file restart pass was negated by an immediate caution flag. Once in front the second time, Rudolph outran his Mike Lafler chassis teammate Patrick Emerling, Canadian Mike Lichty, Pennsylvanian Zane Zeiner, and Payne, who faded late in the race.

The second TQ event was all Ted Christopher, who gained the lead on lap one and held off a determined race long threat from Howell, N.J., favorite Jimmy Blewett. Shawn Nye, driving a car that first saw competition in 1996, completed a last turn, last lap pass of Anthony Sesely to finish third. Geoff Sutton drove a remarkable race to finish fifth in Blu Metz’s vintage TQ.

Two spectacular accidents punctuated race two. In the first, Steve Craig overrode a spinning Brett Michalski in turn three, then flipped completely over the Jersey barrier fence. He was not hurt. Later in the race, Lou Cicconi, Jr., running third, hopped over Blewett’s wheel on a restart, became airborne and hit the outside turn two fence head on. Like Craig, Cicconi walked away with out injury.

Daley’s winning Champ Kart ride in the 20-lap feature was achieved over Joseph Pacovich, Andrew Swisher, Cale Ross and Danny Bouc. Pacovich led handily at mid-race only to become ensnared in a tangle with lapped traffic, forcing him to restart the race in mid-pack. He made it back to second but had nothing for Daley. Swisher, Ross and Bouc all ran as high as second at one point during the race before finishing in that order.

SUN NATIONAL BANK CENTER TRACK CONSTRUCTION NEARING COMPLETION FOR INDOOR AUTO RACING EVENTS SET FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

TRENTON, NJ December 18, 2014 . . . The transformation of the stark concrete slab that is the floor of Trenton. N.J.’s Sun National Bank Center into a highly competitive tenth-of-a-mile speedway began Wednesday, December 17 and is nearing completion as of Thursday afternoon, December 18.

The labor intensive job is in preparation for Battle Of Trenton II, two days of Three Quarter Midget racing on Friday and Saturday, December 18-19. TQs are joined by Champ Karts Friday night and by the Lentini Auto Salvage Slingshots Saturday evening.

The Len Sammons Motorsports Productions produced program racing events currently list 68 TQ Midgets, and 24 Slingshots and Champ Karts each - full fields - for the two days of action.

Track preparation is a two stage process. The most important element of the preparation of the track is the placement of nine truckloads of concrete ‘Jersey barriers’ that define the inside and outside edges of the racing surface. The Jersey barrier was developed at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., in 1950s, hence its name. All Barriers were in place Thursday morning.

The next most important phase of the track prep is the introduction of cola syrup onto the concrete floor. The syrup will combine with the rubber from the Hoosier tires to create adhesion, or ‘grip’ for the cars. Interestingly enough, the rate of adhesion actually increases over the two days of racing activity, the exact opposite of what happens at most outdoor venues.

The first on-track action starts at 1:00 p.m. Friday with closed- to-the-public TQ Midget and Champ Kart practice and time trials.

Spectator gates open at 6:30 p.m. with the first actual racing set to start at 7:30 p.m.

The next day, Saturday, on track action racing begins at 1:00 p.m. with closed-to-the public practice.

Gates for spectators open at 5:00 p.m. Saturday. The popular meet-and-greet session known as Fanfest starts as soon as the gates open, leading up to a 7:00 p.m. start time for racing with TQs joined by the Lentini Auto Salvage Slingshots.

Tickets for both events are available online at www.comcasttix.com and will be available at the arena box office the day of the event.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PLEASE WITH OUR THANKS….

BATTLE OF BECHTELSVILLE FREEDOM 76 MODIFIED CLASSIC WON BY STEWART FRIESEN AT GRANDVIEW

Bechtelsville, PA September 21, 2014 . . . Stewart Friesen started the regular Saturday night season at Grandview Speedway in victory lane behind the wheel of the Norm Hansell No. 357 and he closed it out by winning the 44th annual Freedom 76 Modified feature driving the Jeff Bailey & Sons sponsored/Teo No. 44F for a $25,000 plus payday. In addition to the top prize money Friesen, the second Canadian to win the prestigious event – Doug Carlyle doing it in 1977, collected the lion’s share of lap money leading laps 32 through 76. Next to winning Syracuse, this was Friesen’s biggest triumph. He commented that Grandview was a “cool track and to be out front was a real privilege.”

The race, billed as the “Battle of Bechtelsville”, pitted New York racers against Penna. Racers with Friesen, who is a winner on a regular basis at New York tracks, claiming the win for the New York contingent. Close to 70 racers took part in the 44th annual running of the Classic.

The next event on the schedule at Grandview Speedway is a tripleheader show of Enduro, Vintage and Slingshot racing starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 5th.

The top 26 cars in the 32-car field drew for starting positions with the other six getting into the main event via the Schaeffer Motorsports Minuteman 20.

At the wave of the green by starter Ray Kemp, Duane Howard, starting on the outside of the front row outgunned polesitter Ryan Watt to grab the front spot.

Howard held the lead for six laps before Watt charged ahead on the seventh lap restart needed when John Willman slowed with a flat tire.

Watt ran the highest line coming close to the boilerplate on occasion, while Howard stayed low trying to wrestle the lead away.

While these two diced for the lead and approached the obstacle of lap traffic, it allowed Friesen and Danny Johnson, the guaranteed starter for winning the Forrest Rogers Memorial, sixth- and tenth-place starters to close in and make it a four way dual for the lead.

New York invader Andy Bachetti slowed along the backstretch for the 31st lap caution. It took two attempts to complete the next lap, but when it finally counted Friesen was at the front of the pack trailed by Watt, Howard, Johnson and Anthony Perrego.

Howard regained second on the 35th lap and set sail after Friesen who was distancing himself from the competition.

Nate Christman regrouped the pack when he spun between turns three and four on the 44th lap. At this time a mandatory fuel stop brought out the red. When service was completed and racing resumed, it was still Friesen, running the inside groove, first while Howard, Watt, Johnson and Craig Von Dohren completed second through fifth.

The final caution was on the 50th lap when something on Rick Laubach’s car broke and he headed into the first turn wall collecting Keith Hoffman, who was left with no place to go, in the process. Friesen held his own on the restart, but Watt emerged with a full burst of speed running the outside lane and gave him a run for the money.

Once Friesen saw Watt’s front end, he picked up his pace and moved his path to the outside lane as opposed to staying low.

Howard was back in second on the 62nd circuit and set his sights on Friesen. The battle for fifth was a heated one between Doug Manmiller, Von Dohren and 2014 Modified point champion Jeff Strunk, who started 15th, 17th and 26th respectively.

No one was able to close in on Friesen as he wheeled through the lapped traffic and no more yellows were needed after the 50th lap restart and at the drop of the checkered Friesen was in victory lane for a well-deserved win to be the 25th different winner of the event. Following Friesen across were Howard, Johnson, Manmiller and VonDohren. Sixth through tenth were Watt, Strunk, recipient of the Bobby Gunther-Walsh and sponsored Hard Charger worth $300 since Strunk started 26th and advanced 19 positions; Tim Buckwalter, Perrego, Cargo Trailer product certificate recipient, and Jared Umbenhauer.

Buckwalter, Ray Swinehart, Willman, Jared Umbenhauer, Christman and Kyle Weiss were the heat winners. The consolation races went to Mike Mahaney, Justin Grim and Don Norris Jr. allowing them to advance to the Minuteman 20 and the final shot at making the main event. Weiss won the 10-lap Cash Dash worth $1,000.

Jon Kellner Sr. won the Minuteman 20 with Brett Kressley, Kevin Hartnett, Mike Mahaney, Jordan Umbenhauer and Ron Seltmann Jr. second to sixth to qualify for the Freedom 76.

Brett Kressley received an additional $500 from the Conrad Family in memory of their father Ray Conrad. The special Hard Luck award went to him because he was the first drop out of the event and finished 32nd.

44th Annual Freedom 76 Modified Feature Finish: 1. Stewart Friesen, 2. Duane Howard, 3. Danny Johnson, 4. Doug Manmiller, 5. Craig Von Dohren, 6. Ryan Watt, 7. Jeff Strunk, 8. Tim Buckwalter, 9.
