STEVE BUCKWALTER AND ADAM CARBERRY WIN FEATURES IN FIRST “OPEN WHEEL SPECTACULAR” AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA June 23, 2014 . . . The first Open Wheel Spectacular at the Grandview Speedway lived up to its name as fans saw some great racing by both the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) wingless midgets and the Hilborn Tri-State Race Saver Sprint cars as Sunday night open wheel racing made its return to the high banks of the Grandview Speedway after nearly a thirty year absence. The American Racing Drivers Club wingless midget feature had veteran Steve Buckwalter getting the win while the Hilborn Tri State Race Saver winged sprint car feature was won by Adam Carberry.

ARDC midget action saw 2012 ARDC Rookie, Brett Wanner lead lap number one from the pole. Billy Pauch Jr. took the lead on lap two, driving the RT Racing #20 on this occasion. Racing came to a stop with two laps scored as Tommy Kunsman spun in turns three and four, collecting Ryan Watt. Watt flipped the Fred Schell owned #75. All drivers were okay but Watt and Kunsman were unable to continue.
Pauch Jr. led the field on the restart with Steve Buckwalter in hot pursuit. Tim Buckwalter now ran in third with Danny Stratton and current ARDC point leader, Steven Drevicki completing the top five. With the two Buckwalters racing for second, Pauch was able to pull away from the field temporarily. Alex Bright and Bruce Buckwalter Jr. moved in to fourth and fifth as positions changed on nearly every lap.
Steve Buckwalter closed in on Pauch on lap eight and after a two lap battle, wrestled the lead from Pauch to score lap ten.
Wanner drew a caution when he came to a stop in turns three and four with thirteen complete. Steve led Tim Buckwalter, Pauch, Alex Bright and Steven Drevicki with half of the laps on the books.
Steve Buckwalter held off the challenge of Tim Buckwalter as Pauch, Alex Bright and Drevicki raced in the top five with ten laps remaining.
Bright took over third on lap sixteen and then moved in to challenge Tim Buckwalter for second. Bright had the runner-up spot by lap eighteen and he began to close the gap on the leader in the final laps.
Two restarts realigned the field nose to tail but Steve Buckwalter had the race in hand as he led Alex Bright and Tim Buckwalter to the checkered flag. Drevicki finished fourth with Pauch rounding out the top five.
The win was Buckwalter's second ARDC midget win of the season.
Qualifying heats were won by Pauch, Drevicki and Kobylarz.

Adam Carberry (WoS photo)
Adam Carberry and Ryan Stillwaggon led the TSRS Sprint Cars to the start with Stillwaggon taking control at the wave of the green.
The red flag was needed for a multi car incident in turns three and four that saw Ian Detweiler get out of shape and several cars had nowhere to go. Stephanie Steven got upside down in the incident that also involved the cars of Cody Jourdan and Bryant Davis. Only Davis was able to continue.
Stillwaggon returned to the lead on the restart with Adam Carberry in hot pursuit. Tom Carberry ran in third followed by Bob DeVault and Tim Tanner. Adam Carberry went to the outside of Stillwaggon on lap five and took over the lead.
Once in the lead, Carberry immediately put some distance between himself and his challengers. Tanner made his way to fourth with a pass by DeVault on lap eight as the duo raced down the backstretch.
DeVault drew a caution on lap ten after Kyle Reinhardt made a move by three cars to take over fifth. Tanner quickly moved up to third on the restart and then advanced to second with a move by Stillwaggon as Carberry drove ahead of the field.
Adam Carberry caught up to the back of the field on lap seventeen. While Carberry negotiated his way through traffic, Tanner began to close in on the leader.
On lap twenty-one, Carberry and Tanner crossed the start/finish line together. Carberry was back in control the next time around but Tanner was in hot pursuit. The leaders raced each other for position all the way to the checkered flag with Carberry earning his first win of the 2014 season. Tanner finished alongside for second with Tommy Carberry finishing third, preferring the high line around the Grandview Speedway. Joseph Kata won the battle for fourth with Stillwaggon rounding out the top five at the line.
The four qualifying heats were won by Tanner, DeVault, Tom Carberry and Detweiler with Jon Haegele taking the consolation.
Kelly Racing Fuels gave five fuel awards to each organization with each based on the #17 - the car number of former driver, Dave Kelly. Haegele received ten gallons of racing fuel for being the 17th driver to draw. Five gallons of fuel went to Cody Jourdan as the 17th entry, Tom Carberry who is 17th in points, Adam Carberry who led TSRS' last event on the 17th lap and to Mike Haggenbottom who finished 17th in the last TSRS race at Bridgeport.
Ten gallons of Kelly Racing Fuel went to Ryan Watt who started the feature in 17th position. Five gallon awards were given to Greg Fitzpatrick who was the 17th driver to draw, Billy Pauch Jr. who was 17th in points, Steven Drevicki who led the 17th lap of the last ARDC event and John Barnett who finished 17th in that race at Port Royal.
The next Open Wheel Spectacular, again featuring the ARDC midgets and Hilborn TSRS sprints, is set for Sunday, July 20th.

POINT BATTLES ARE TIGHT FOR STOCK CAR RACERS AT GRANDVIEW, NASCAR STOCKS IN ACTION ON SATURDAY, MIDGETS AND SPRINTS IN OPEN WHEEL SPECTACULAR ON SUNDAY
Bechtelsville, PA April 30, 2014 . . . It may be early in the stock car racing season at Grandview Speedway but the battle for the lucrative NASCAR point titles are about as tight as they could be. And the points could tighten up even more as NASCAR stock car racing will be the attraction at the Bechtelsville clay oval on Saturday (May 3) with the NASCAR 358 Modifieds, BRC Late Models and Sportsman stockers featured in a tripleheader show of racing action.
Mike Gular, without a feature win to his credit, sits on top of the NASCAR 358 Modified standings. Gular, who has not been a champion at Grandview, is in front of nine time track champion Jeff Strunk by just four points. Third is DIRT Hall of Famer Frank Cozze just 69 points behind followed by past champion Duane Howard. Less than 130 points separate the top four.
Jared Umbenhauer, a two time defending Sportsman champion, leads the standings in the Sportsman division by 111 points over Brett Kressley. Umbenhauer has three straight feature wins headed into the Saturday night action.
Randy Stoudt, winner of one feature this season and 58 during his career at Grandview, heads up the Late Model standings. He has an 11 point edge over six time champion Chuck Schutz. If Stoudt can win this Saturday night he will become the all-time leading Late Model career feature winner.
At least 12 events of stock car racing will make up the Saturday night show featuring the 358 Modifieds, BRC Late Models and Sportsman stock cars. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m., the new starting time in place for the balance of the season, with spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. As usual the a Low Down & Dirty Meet and Greet will feature a driver and car from each division at the main gate at 5:30 pm and this week it will be Jordan Umbenhauer, Jason Miller and Craig Whitmoyer.
Those fans of exciting short track auto racing, those who have been around for a while, will probably remember back years ago when American Racing Drivers Club midgets and United Racing Club (now called company) raced in doubleheader Sunday night shows are nearby Grandview Speedway and the Sunday night attraction is returning…..at least for four events this season.
The one-third-mile, banked clay oval was pretty much designed for midgets and sprints. It is a great track for that type of racing action. And the Saturday night NASCAR stock car racing action continues to offer some fan pleasing action.
Track owner Bruce Rogers has always been a fan of the midgets. It was he and long time midget owner Ed Darrell, now deceased, that formed a partnership to present the Sunday night doubleheaders dozens of years back and it developed into quite a successful weekly attraction.
Fans formed fan clubs for the racers. I can still remember a string band coming out one night to be part of the fun. The racers supported the events. Young midget racer Steve Howard did backflips on the main straightaway and that delighted fans. “The villain” Wayne Woodward dumped a bucket of water on the announcer one night. That announcer just happened to be this writer. There were handouts for the kids, coloring contests, banner contests and more.
Bruce Rogers hopes to recreate that kind of excitement as he brings the sprints and midgets back to Grandview Speedway for what he is calling “Open Wheel Spectaculars”. This Sunday will be the first of four such promotions.
The TSRS sprints, organized by Feasterville, PA’s Joe Grandinetti, long a fixture in area motorsports, ran one event at Grandview last season and presented quite an exciting night of racing. More than 30 cars were on hand for last year’s race and there is no reason that there will not be that many sprints returning for this night of open wheel action.
The ARDC midgets, celebrating their 75th year of competition, will race wingless. TSRS sprints will be the second part of the show. A full series of qualifying events will be presented with a 25 lap feature topping the show for each division.
With it being a Sunday night show, starting at 7:30 p.m., Rogers wants to present a fast paced show that is over and done with at a reasonable hour and leaves the fans looking forward to the next event. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. with a Meet & Greet featuring two midget and two sprint car drivers.
Tickets are reasonably priced at $15 for adults while youngsters 6 through 11 pay just $3 and kids under 6 are admitted FREE. Military personnel with proper ID are admitted free and there is free parking available on the speedway grounds.
Grandview Speedway is a one-third-mile, banked clay oval located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA 10 miles north of Pottstown. For information telephone 610.754.7688 or check in at www.grandviewspeedway.com.

OPENING NIGHT FEATURE RACES WON BY CANADIAN STEWART FRIESEN, BRETT KESSLEY AND SEAN MERKEL AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA April 6, 2014 Canadian invader Stewart Friesen clicked off his first career 30-lap regular season NASCAR 358 Modified victory at Grandview Speedway on a brutally cold Saturday night, while young Brett Kressley of Orefield, PA picked up where he left off last season, claiming another win in the 25-lap NASCAR Sportsman main event, and Sean Merkel of Boyertown, PA was the winner in a wild 25-lap NASCAR Late Model feature on the 52nd consecutive Opening Night at the Bechtelsville, PA based dirt raceway.
In spite of the very chilly weather, a good crowd was on hand to watch some fan-pleasing competition, with more than 80 race cars taking part in qualifying sessions. Since it was the first race of the year, all feature events started heads-up, as they qualified in their earlier qualifying heat races.
The opening night race served as a tune-up for the NASCAR 358 Modifieds as they race in twin 20-lap feature races on Saturday night starting at 7 p.m. Late Models and Sportsman will also be in action. Adult admission is $20 while youngsters 12 and under pay just $5.
In the NASCAR 358 Modified main, Stewart Friesen took the green from the pole after winning his heat race steering a No. 357 mount owned by Norm Hansell and the popular driver immediately pulled away. A quick caution on lap three closed the field up again.
Friesen immediately reclaimed the top spot with the new green on lap four over Justin Grim, who started from fourth-place in the 28-car starting field. Meme DeSantis started sixth and was already up to third at this point, with third-place starter Craig VonDohren running in fourth. A caution on lap six closed up the field again and another yellow on lap 10 tightened the field up as well.
A new green saw Friesen back out in front for lap 11 over DeSantis and the No. 1C driven by VonDohren. At halfway VonDohren slipped by DeSantis to steal the runner-up spot, dropping DeSantis to third with 15 in the record books. A caution again appeared after lap 15 when nine-time division champion Jeff Strunk headed to the pit area with his second left front flat of the event.
Again it was Friesen, VonDohren and, now, Duane Howard, the fifth-place starter with the Petruska No. 66 machine, vaulting into third, as DeSantis dropped to fourth for lap 16. With nine tours remaining Jon Kellner Sr. spun it around exiting turn four all alone and, once again, brought out the yellow flag.
Track Starter Ray Kemp waved the green again and Friesen retook the number one position over VonDohren and Howard, with DeSantis running fourth in front of Mike Gular, who was in fifth-place after taking the original green from second spot. Racing through some heavy lapped traffic on lap 26 through turns three and four, VonDohren got collected in a crash with a slower lapped car and the caution brought the field together again. VonDohren continued on, but had any chance at getting a win torpedoed after that unfortunate tangle with a lapped car.
With a single file restart, Friesen powered out in front with the green waving over Howard, DeSantis, Gular and Kyle Weiss in that order. On the final circuit Howard pulled up next to Friesen down the back part of the raceway, but Friesen held on and pulled off the popular win.
Howard finished a strong second at the checkered, followed by DeSantis, Gular and Weiss rounding out the top five finishers.
“The key was getting a good draw and getting the heat win to give us the pole to start the feature,” revealed Friesen afterwards. “This Norm Hansell car is a beautiful piece and this place is a cool joint to race at. It feels good to get this win and a lot of it is the preparation this team does in the shop. I was fortunate to hang on, honestly. The choppy track conditions tonight made it tough racing for everyone and all the cautions kept it clean in front of me as the leader. I am glad to win one for this team and I know the fans had to really enjoy it being out here tonight. It’s freezing for everyone tonight whether you’re watching or racing.”
Feature winner Stewart Friesen was handed an additional #250 bonus courtesy of T.P. Trailers of Limerick, PA.
In the Late Model feature Sean Merkel started from the pole and was the early rabbit, with defending division champion Jason Miller, who started third, and former division champion and fourth-place starter Randy Stoudt chasing Merkel early on. Yellow lights came out on the original start and once again on the following restart, plus on lap three, lap seven and lap ten, as Merkel pulled away to a big advantage each time. Another caution appeared prior to lap 11, as Merkel continued to show his muscle aboard the Kochel Equipment self-owned No. 118 Late Model.
Sammy Schlosberg, who started from fifth-place wheeling his unsponsored No. 70 car with the number taped on the doors and roof, moved into third-place on lap 11 and a lap later Schlosberg went to the outside exiting turn four to drive past Miller and suddenly find himself running in second-place.
By lap 17 Schlosberg began to pressure Merkel and on lap 20 Schlosberg drove into turn three underneath Merkel to become the new leader. On lap 21, again, Merkel repassed Schlosberg racing underneath Schlosberg through turns three and four. Schlosberg continued to pressure Merkel until a slower lapped car got in the way with a circuit remaining to give Merkel that break he needed. Merkel crossed under the checkered first to give him his seventh career win and earn his first win ever on Opening Night at the track.
Schlosberg settled for the runner-up position at the line in front of Miller, Wayne Pfeil and former track champion Lou Egrie Sr. finished out the top five.
In Victory Lane Merkel mentioned, “Sammy caught me sleeping, there. I got help from a lapped car to get back around him, but that’s what happens when you fall asleep. Some nights things just go your way. The car was real good tonight, but we finished the race with the motor running hot. We hope to get that fixed by next week, but we took full advantage of the starting spot and pulled it off, tonight.”
Merkel got an additional $100 bonus from T.P. Trailers of Limerick, PA.
In the Sportsman feature Jordan Henn started from the pole and immediately put the HigFab chassied family-owned No. 77H machine out in front with a wave of the green over fourth-place starter Brad Brightbill and outside front row starter Joe Funk. On lap three Craig Whitmoyer hopped a wheel battling as the fifth-place car and drove his self-owned No. 99 hot rod hard into the outside boilerplate wall in turn four to bring out a red flag.
It was Henn again out in front with the green over the high-flying No. 19K of Brett Kressley, who started from eleventh-place and raced past the competition running the high outside lane, after four rounds. Henn held on as the leader and Kressley was running second with ten in the books, as the race leaders got into lapped traffic. On lap 12 exiting turn four and racing down the front straight, Kressley used a lapped car to drive past Henn, who got caught behind a lapped car running the inside, with Kressley grabbing first as they crossed at the starters stand.
Kressley pulled away as the leader, but a caution on lap 16 brought the field together again. With the restart Kressley assumed the top spot over Henn, with the two-time defending division champion and eighth-place starter Jared Umbenhauer moving up to third. Brightbill fell back to fourth and Dean Bachman, who started from third-place with his self-owned No. 65 mount, now was running fifth. The top five remained that way as the checkered waved, as Kressley turned in a strong Opening Night performance to claim his sixth career feature win at the track to tie Umbenhauer at the top of the all-time career winners list.
Brett Kressley was awarded an additional $100 from T.P. Trailers for his win.
In qualifying events Late Model heat winners were Sean Merkel and former division champ Ron Kline. Sportsman heat race victors were Jordan Henn, Joe Funk and Dean Bachman. In the 358 Modified division qualifying event winners were Stewart Friesen, Mike Gular, seven-time point champion and the defending track champ Craig VonDohren, plus Justin Grim, with consolation triumphs going to Nate Christman and Don Norris Jr. There were no consolation races in Late Model and Sportsman divisions.
Coming up next Saturday night, April 12 at the Berks County track the NASCAR 358 Modified cars run a Twin-20’s program, with the NASCAR Late Models and NASCAR Sportsman running regular races. Racing gets the green flag by 7 P.M. throughout the month of April. Information on racing at Grandview Speedway can be found at www.grandviewspeedway.com or check Facebook or Twitter. ERICK RUDOLPH WINS SUN BANK CENTER INDOOR THREE QUARTER MIDGET FEATURE WHILE JUSTIN GUMLEY TOPS CHAMP KART FIELD IN TRENTON, NJ SATURDAY NIGHT
TRENTON, NJ February 9, 2014 . . . Erick Rudolph of Ransomville, N.Y., roared to victory Saturday night in the Battle Of Trenton Three Quarter Midget 40-lap feature race inside the Trenton (NJ) Sun Bank Center.
“The car was hooked up tonight,” exclaimed the race’s victor. “It was a case of reading the track before the race, getting the setup right and having the track stay consistent.” Rudolph led all forty of the race’s circuits.
The win for Rudolph was his first since a three-for-four near sweep of the 2012 Boardwalk Hall feature events.
Mike Lichty of Innerkip, Ontario finished second, battling back from a mid-race spin on lap 17 while running third. His run was eclipsed by that of Zane Zeiner, of Bath, Pa., who started twenty second, steered clear of the carnage that ensnared others, and finished third. Matt Janisch of Easton, Pa., was fourth, also fighting back from early race adversity. Jimmy Blewett of Howell, N.J. was fifth
The 25-lap Champ Kart co-feature was won by Justin Gumley of Howell, N.J. who led every lap. Rich Davidowitz of East Moriches, was a close runner up, ahead of James Hayden of Lake Grove, N.Y., Avery Stoehr of Lakeville, Mass., and Alex Colasanto of Lindenhurst, N.Y.
Jonathan Laureigh of Lanoka Harbor, N.J., crashed heavily while riding in fourth spot with 17 of the 25 laps completed. He was aided from his kart by EMTs but was not believed to have sustained any serious injuries.
Ryan Tidman of Levittown, Pa. outran a field of 57 TQ Midgets to set fastest time. Danny Bouc of Plumsteadville, Pa., outran two dozen other Champ Kart hopefuls to set quickest time.
In the first TQ Midget B-Main race, Paul Hartwig, Jr. of Brick, N.J., escaped injury when he flipped wildly in the first turn. His car overturned against the outside wall concrete barrier dislodging it. Once righted, Hartwig climbed out unhurt.
Undaunted, Hartwig returned to run in the Champ Kart feature and raced his way to a tenth place finish.
PNC Industries and Angela’s House Charity were sponsors of the first annual two-day card of Indoor racing produced and presented by Len Sammons Motorsports Productions.
Ryan Preece of Berlin, Ct., and Andy Jankowiak of Tonawanda, N.Y., shared honors in Friday’s TQ Midget Twin Twenties races and Gary Hieber, Jr. of Penndel, Pa., took the Slingshot feature,
The events were preceded by races inside Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall on January 24-25. The TQ events were both part of the Fatheadz Eyewear Indoor Series which rewarded the top three drivers from both weekends of action.
The outcome of the Fatheadz Eyewear chase was determined on the final laps of the Battle Of Trenton feature. Sixth place finisher Anthony Sesely, with 382 points, shaded Matt Janisch, who earned 381 points by way of his fourth place ride.

RYAN PREECE AND ANDY JANKOWIAK ARE INDOOR AUTO RACING FEATURE WINNERS AT TRENTON’S SUN BANK CENTER, ACTION CONTINUES TONIGHT
TRENTON, NJ – February 8, 2014 . . . Auto racing returned Friday night to New Jersey’s State Capital for the first time since the last race at the New Jersey State Fairgrounds in 1980 inside Sun Bank Center and in a rousing program of Three Quarter Midget indoor racing action, two immensely popular first time winners took home the victories in 20-lap main events.
Ryan Preece of Berlin, Ct., gained the lead after a frenetic 17 laps of non-stop action ended with a tangle that took out the top three leaders, Jonathan Reid, Jimmy Blewett and Andy Jankowiak.
Preece then ran out the last three laps to win over Patrick Emerling, Neal Williams, Shawn Nye and Matt Janisch.
“If anyone had told me I would win the first TQ 20-lap feature I would never have thought it possible,” said Preece, the 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Touring Series champion.
In the second 20-lap TQ Midget feature, an event punctuated with several accidents, Jankiowiak gained a measure of redemption by leading most of the distance. The Cheektowaga, N.Y driver was an emotional winner.
“I knew I had a chance when Lou Cicconi was behind me,” Jankowiak said. “Louie raced me clean and it gave me some room to work lapped traffic.”
Jankowiak’s ability to work his way through heavy lapped traffic proved to be the critical difference.
Cicconi was second at the end of the second feature with Reid, like Jankowiak, gaining some measure of satisfaction after his issues in the first feature by taking third. Ryan Tidman, who barely qualified into the Twin Twenties, had an outstanding effort to place fourth and Emerling, by earning fifth, was the only driver to gain a top five finish in the twin TQ main events.
The Slingshot 25-lap co-feature was won by Gary Hieber, Jr., of Penndel, Pa., who outran Matt Carman and Tiffany Wambold. Shannon Smith, who ran second to Hieber for the first half of the race, was fourth and Kevin VanValkenburg finished fifth.
Two drivers were transported to area care centers after mishaps during the day. Steve Kemery of Sewell, N.J., crashed heavily in TQ Midget practice after car’s throttle stuck. In the Slingshot feature, Lydia Rueckheim was extricated from her car after complaining of neck pain. Neither driver was believed to have sustained serious injuries.
PC Industries / Angela’s House sponsored the night of action which continues Saturday night as the Battle of Trenton concludes with a 40-lap TQ Midget headliner and a 25-lap Champ Kart main event. Racing starts at 7 p.m. Check for information at www.aarn.com or telephone 609.888.3618.

THE BATTLE OF TRENTON INDOOR RACE WEEKEND IS AT HAND, 700 FEATURE WINNER BILLY PACH AMONG THREE QUARTER MIDGET FAVORITES; SLINGSHOTS, CHAMP KARTS READY FOR BATTLE
TRENTON, NJ (February 1, 2014) - Billy Pauch, a tested tough racing veteran with nearly forty years of driving experience and 700 career feature wins to his credit, will lead more than five dozen Three Quarter Midget drivers into the Battle Of Trenton on February 7-8, 2014 inside the city’s Sun National Bank Center.
Much like George Washington 238 years ago, Pauch is battle hardened at age 56, that didn’t stop him from winning the 2013 New Egypt Speedway Modified Stock Car driving championship, outracing many drivers half his age.
Among the many entrants Pauch will need to contend with his son Billy Pauch, Jr., whose fast-rising driving career Pauch Sr. has mentored. Both will drive TQ Midgets owned and prepared by Colin Martin of Denver. Pa.
The Indoor events, a first for Trenton, are produced and promoted by Len Sammons Motorsports Productions. The Sun National Bank Center’s races are the first in the city of Trenton since August 19, 1979. Rick Mears, who went on to become a four time Indianapolis 500 race winner, was the winner of the final USAC Championship Car race at the former New Jersey State Fairgrounds.
The Battle Of Trenton weekend racing events call for Twin 20 lap features for the TQ Midgets and a complete program of Slingshots on Friday, February. 7 followed by a 40-lap for TQ Midget main event accompanied by Champ Karts on Saturday, February 8.
TQ Midgets are smaller, lighter powerful versions of Sprint and Midget cars specially prepared for the rigors of indoor racing.
Anthony Sesely of Matawan, N.J., heads to Trenton as the overwhelming favorite after sweeping the weekend in Atlantic City two weeks ago, winning the TQ Midget features on Friday and Saturday night. Mike Lichty, one of two Canadians (hailing from Innerkip, Ontario) who have entered the TQ Midget action inside Sun National Bank Center, finished second to Sesely in Atlantic City’s Gambler’s Classic two weeks ago and was a strong contender on Friday night before a late race crash. Jimmy Blewett of Howell, N.J., whose shift from asphalt Modified to dirt Modified racing in 2013 was among the year’s biggest racing stories, is also a popular entry. He came home with a pair of seventh place finish in the two nights of racing in Atlantic City but was a contender for the win each night.
Slingshots are closed cockpit cars that are identically built and purchased from one central source, Speedway Entertainment in Lebanon, Pa. Since the cars are theoretically identical, great emphasis is placed on driving skill. Simon Egan of Stroudsburg, Pa., winner of the Atlantic City Indoor Slingshot feature two weeks ago, will lead a field of nearly three dozen competitors into Friday’s Slingshot battle. The ‘Slingers’ will be competing for the Snyder’s-Lance Snack Bowl 25 title Friday night. In addition to being the title sponsor of both races, Snyder’s-Lance, with help and support from Walt Bennett of Bennett Motors has established a two-race Slingshot point fund.
The Champ Karts are lightning fast, caged versions of go-karts that compete regionally and nationwide on both dirt and paved surfaces and on both ovals and road racing circuits. Karts are agile, have no active suspension, and require a precise touch. Anthony Colandro of Islip Terrace, Long Island, N.Y., the Champ Kart race winner inside Boardwalk Hall two weeks ago, is among more than thirty drivers who will be seeking victory in Saturday’s Kart feature. One of his key rivals is likely to be Douglas Stearly, the Trappe, Pa. standout who took the lead on the next-to-last lap in Atlantic City only to spin out, costing him the race.
PRC Industries/Angela’s House Charity has come aboard to sponsor the first Battle Of Trenton Indoor races. PRC, located in St. James, Long Island, N.Y., is a returns-management agency. The company is dedicated to the philosophy that household appliances and computer products need not be throwaway goods.
Angela’s House is a charitable endeavor created to offer families and professionals an agency to call to help medically frail children and their families. Their Long Island locations are in Hauppauge and Smithtown.
The PRC Industries / Angela’s House Charity Battle Of Trenton Indoor races are the last of two Indoor events that comprise the Fatheadz Eyewear Series.
Fatheadz Eyewear along with Dr. William Lowe will pay bonuses to the top three overall TQ Midget drivers from the Battle Of Trenton and previous NAPA Know How Atlantic City Race Weekend events. Drivers will receive points based on their qualifying efforts and feature finishes from Friday and Saturday night at both events towards the overall series crown.
Over the last dozen years, Len Sammons Motorsports Productions’ racing events inside Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall have been much heralded happenings. The first Battle Of Trenton has the potential to bring the excitement of racing back to what was once a racing town.
