WATT WINS HIS SECOND BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURE OF THE YEAR AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
Bridgeport, NJ (June 9, 2013) – On Nostalgia Night at Bridgeport Speedway, Ryan Watt won his second Big Block Modified feature of the year. Bob Lilick took the checkered flag in the Crate/Sportsman race while his brother, Kris, won the D.A.’S Auto Body and Repair Rookie race. Ron Frees was the victor in the Outlaw Stock Car feature.
At the start of the 30-lap Big Block Modified feature, Sam Martz grabbed the lead and was trailed by Scott Irwin, Bob Sarkisian, Ryan Watt, and Eric Kormann. After a first lap caution and restart, Martz remained on top. Watt, who started the event in ninth, migrated into third place on lap 4. With five tours recorded in the books, Martz had a half-straightaway advantage over Irwin, Watt, Kormann, and Sarkisian. One revolution later, Martz’s comfortable margin disappeared as Dave Witte’s spin in the fourth corner brought out the yellow flag. Martz maintained his lead when racing resumed with Watt slipping by Irwin for the runner-up position. Watt was closing in on Martz when the yellow lights reappeared for Mike Iles on lap 8. As action got back underway, Watt blasted by Martz for the lead and Kormann followed him to gain second place. The top three of Watt, Kormann, and Martz remained intact until the yellow lights flickered on during the twelfth circuit for Richie Pratt, Jr. and David Hunt. On the restart, Watt and Kormann waged a side-by-side tussle for the lead with Watt keeping the top running spot. Following a caution period on lap 13 for Scott Irwin, Watt repelled another attempt by Kormann for the lead. At the halfway point, Jimmy Horton drove into third place. Watt was beginning to pull away when the final yellow flag of the event came out on lap 17 for the slowing cars of Dom Buffalino and Martz. As the green flag waved for the last time, Watt continued to set the pace with Horton edging by Kormann for second and Rick Laubach climbing into fourth. With seven laps to go, Watt and Horton were in close quarters. As the final laps clicked off, Watt began to pull away from Horton and eventually, he comfortably crossed the finished line in front for his second win of the year. Horton wound up in second with Kormann coming home in third. Laubach was fourth and Pratt, Jr. completed the race in fifth place. Dave Witte, Bob Sarkisian, and Ryan Watt were the winners in the Big Block Modified heat races.
After taking the lead on the third tour, Bob Lilick paced the field for the remaining distance to win the 20-lap main event for the Crate/Sportsman. Prior to the win, Lilick’s last appearance in victory lane at Bridgeport Speedway was 2006. Kevin Belmont, who led the first two circuits, finished in the runner-up position. Marc Herman, Steve Searock, and Mike Cogdill rounded out the top five. The Crate Sportsman qualifying events were taken by Matt Budd, Steve Searock, and Marc Herman.
Kris Lilick captured the 8-lap D.A.’S Auto Body and Repair Rookie Series feature for the third time this season. Ian Humphreys, Tyler Hulmes, Jeff Bubori, and Jesse Bonaduce followed Lilick across the finish line.
In the 15-lap Outlaw Stock Car feature, Ron Frees held off a late charge from Jimmy Avery to record his fourth victory of the season. Frees inherited the lead from Brian Ludwig on the eleventh tour after mechanical issues caused Ludwig to retire from the race. With Avery taking second, Tom Wills, Sr. finished in third. Fourth went to Tom Wills, Jr. and TJ Henry took fifth. Jimmy Avery and Tom Wills, Sr. were the victors in the Outlaw Stock Car heat races.
The Night of Wings 2013 show takes place on Wednesday, June 12 featuring the 410 Sprint Cars in a 25-lap main event paying $7000 to the top finisher. The TSRS Sprint Cars round out the two-division special mid-week program. The gates to the pits open at 4:00 p.m. with the grandstand turnstiles unlocking at 5:00 p.m. Hot laps will get underway at 7:00 p.m. with action starting at 7:30 p.m. Night of Wings 2013 tickets for fans 16 and older will be $25 in advance or $30 on the day of the show. Admission for students (10-15) will be $15 and children 9 and under are free. Pit admission is $35. A raindate of Thursday, June 13 has been established for this event.

RAIN STOPS RACING AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY DURING BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURE
Bridgeport, NJ (May 12, 2013) – On Mother’s Night at Bridgeport Speedway, it took a third round of rain showers to finally stop the racing. With nine circuits completed, Ryan Watt was leading the Big Block Modified event. The remainder of this race will be concluded at a later date. The Crate/Sportsman main event was postponed and this race will be contested in the future as well. Prior to the third round of wet weather, Brian Ludwig won the Outlaw Stock Car feature with Ian Humphries picking up the victory in the D.A.’S Auto Body and Repair Rookie race.
At the start of the 30-lap Big Block Modified feature, Mike Franz grabbed the lead with Scott Irwin, Mike Iles and Matt Harrell in pursuit. By lap 2, Iles had just motored into the runner-up spot when he stopped in turn four with a flat tire. When action got back underway, Harrell blasted to the front of the pack. Ryan Watt, who started the event in twelfth, had just moved into second place when a slowing Stan Frankenfield, Jr. caused the yellow lights to illuminate the track with four circuits completed. On the restart, Watt charged to the front with Harrell and Richie Pratt, Jr. in his tracks. On lap 6, the caution flag was displayed as Frankenfield, Jr. began to slow down on the track. Following the waving of the green flag, the top three remained in order with Duane Howard driving into fourth. Dave Witte’s ride slowed in turn four and the yellow flag appeared with seven laps recorded. When action got back underway, Watt was still on top and was followed by Harrell, Pratt, Jr., and Howard. On lap 9, Rob Nixon’s spin stopped the highly entertaining racing action. Before the green flag could wave, a moderate rain shower began to pelt the track and the race was stopped. When the race resumes at a future date, Watt will be the leader with Harrell, Pratt, Jr., Howard, and Mike Barone completing the top five. The winners of the Big Block Modified heats were Scott Irwin, Mike Franz, and Dave Witte. Sammy Piazza was the victor in the consolation race.
In the 15-lap Outlaw Stock Car feature, Brian Ludwig paced the field for the entire distance to win his third career race at Bridgeport Speedway. Ed Tinsman and Tom Wills, Sr. had a good duel for second place with Tinsman coming out on top. With Wills, Sr. taking third, Jimmy Avery finished fourth and Spider Ensinger wound up in fifth. The Outlaw Stock Car heats were won by Brian Ludwig and Ed Tinsman.
In the D.A.’S Auto Body and Repair Rookie Series race, Ian Humphries visited victory lane for the fourth time this season. Kris Lilick, Jesse James Bonaduce, and Jeff Bubori followed Humphries across the finish line.
Due to the rain, the Crate/Sportman feature will be contested at a later date. Mike Cogdill and Steve Searock won the Crate/Sportsman qualifying events.
On Saturday, May 18, Bike and Scout Night takes place at Bridgeport Speedway. All bike riders receive free admission along with scouts in uniform. The TSRS Sprint Cars will be making their first appearance at Bridgeport Speedway this season. The Big Block Modifieds, Crate/Sportsman, and D.A.’s Auto Body and Repair Rookies are on the agenda as well. The Outlaw Stock Cars will not be competing on this night. BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY’S 2013 ROOKIE SERIES IS SHAPING UP AND GETS UNDERWAY ON SATURDAY, APRIL 6
Bridgeport, NJ – – On Saturday, April 6, Bridgeport Speedway will be back in action, as they will host their first regular season point event of 2013. Of course the Big Block Modifieds, Crate/Sportsman, and Outlaw Stock drivers will be anxious this coming weekend, as they start their quest for the 2013 point championship. However, nothing can quite compare to the eagerness of a ‘Rookie’ driver.
D.A.’s Auto Body and Repair is proud to sponsor this year’s Bridgeport rookie class. Dave Adams, who currently is part of the new management team at Bridgeport was more than happy to step up and become the sponsor of such a promising rookie contingent.
Adams is the president of D.A.’s Auto Body and Repair located in Feasterville, PA. Serving customers for more than 30 years, their reputation for quality and reliable auto repairs is second to none. There isn't anything that D.A.’s won't do! Whether you need a basic oil change or you've been in a fender bender, they'll keep your car working and looking as good as new. Routine maintenance, state inspections, collision work, engine work, brakes, transmissions, you name it and D.A.’s will take care of you. For more information you can reach Dave and his first-class repair shop at 215-357-2606 or log onto www.daautopa.com.
Dave Adams has raced for over 30 years across the northeast with most of his success coming at Bridgeport Speedway. With many wins and championships included in his resume, Adams has always been a Bridgeport catalyst. He’s also competed at tracks such as Nazareth, Flemington, and East Windsor. Unfortunately those tracks are no longer around and that’s exactly why Adams wants to continue the growth of the sport that he so loves. “I started out running Demo Derbies and then moved up to the Late Models, then Sportsman, then Small Blocks, and eventually the Big Blocks. We need guys to keep entering this sport….it’s very important,” eluded Adams. “I feel that if we keep injecting new blood into this sport then dirt racing will be okay and Bridgeport will be in good shape. I’m excited to be back at Bridgeport, it’s like my second home. The word on the street is that it will be one of the bigger rookie classes Bridgeport’s had in long time and I’m just glad to be a part of it.”
D.A.’s has put up a generous point fund for the rookie drivers. The D.A.’s Auto Body and Repair Champion will walk away from the Bridgeport Banquet with a $500 first prize check along with plenty of other hardware for their winning efforts. Second place in points will receive $300 and third place will receive $200 in prize money along with plaques and trophies all courtesy of D.A.’s Auto Body and Repair.
The rookie class will run 12 consecutive weeks starting April 6 and will continue until graduation night which will be held on Saturday, June 22. The D.A.’s Auto Body and Repair rookies will compete in an 8-lap rookie race each week. The winner of the each rookie race will receive a first place trophy and will automatically qualify for the Crate/Sportsman feature event. The rookie feature will serve as their heat race. The remaining drivers will then tag on the back of the consolation event(s) and try to race their way into the Crate/Sportsman 20-lap feature.
The first official driver to register for the new season was Rich D’Antonio. This 22-year old will be driving the No. 74 Crate-1 in his first season of competition. Rich is one of the few drivers to compete at the speedway who will make the tow from the state of Maryland (Elkton). D’Antonio will be steering a 2006 Bicknell in the rookie series.
The next driver is Ian Humphrey, who has turned a few heads already this season in just a few practice outings. The No. 90 machine will be driven by this second-generation driver out of New Hope, Pennsylvania. The 18-year old rookie will be behind the wheel of a 2001 Crate-1 Teo car. Ian’s main focus this season is to raise awareness for children stricken with Type 1 Diabetes and to show and prove that there are no limitations when it comes to this disease.
Scott Hulmes Jr. will be strapping himself into a racecar for the first time ever in 2013. Scott will be following in his father’s footsteps as Scott Sr. has been a fixture at Bridgeport over the years racing in the Sportsman and Modified divisions. Hulmes Jr. will be driving a 2003 Dirt Wheels No. 7 Crate-2 Sportsman this season. The 19-year old second-generation driver hails from Mantua, NJ.
Another second-generation driver to join this year’s rookie crop will be Chris Lillick. Chris’ father, Bob, and brother, Bob Jr., have and will continue to compete on the 5/8 mile clay oval. Chris will be behind the wheel of his No. 7 1996 Pauch-Olsen Sportsman car. The 21-year old rookie calls King of Prussia, PA his home.
The next driver in the D.A.’s Auto Body 2013 Rookie Series is Hellertown, Pennsylvania’s Jeff Bubori. The 31-year old driver has participated in both open-practices with his No. 28 and is very excited to be a part of this year’s rookie class. Bubori will be driving a 2001 Teo Crate-1 in his quest for the rookie title.
Chris Schaeffer has added his name to the list of possible rookie champions. Good friends with Dave Dissinger, who is a new modified addition to this year’s field, Chris has decided to also be a part of the Bridgeport rookie class. The 28-year old from Auburn, PA will be driving a 2011 Bicknell chassis. The No. 88x Sportsman will be looking to join his teammate Dissinger as first-time Bridgeport Speedway winners.
Jesse James Bonaduce was the last driver to officially enter this year’s field of rookies. You’d think with a name like Jesse James that he might be from somewhere in the Wild Wild West but, Jesse actually calls Somerville, NJ his hometown. The 20-year old snowmobile rider has teamed up with long-time car owner Jimmy Horton Sr. and former racer Mike Sena for his 2013 rookie assault. Bonaduce will be driving a 2005 Crate-1 Olsen machine numbered 43.
There are several other drivers who have expressed their interest in running a handful of rookie races this season, so don’t be surprised to see at least a half dozen or so extra rookie competitors turning laps at Bridgeport throughout the months of April, May, and June. Ryan Cox, son of Clyde Cox III will be in action this coming weekend, as well as the Dunn Brothers. Justin and Robbie Dunn are the sons of 4-cylinder Enduro winner Scott Dunn. Patrick Gold has already logged a lot of laps around Bridgeport at both practice sessions. George Gareis Jr. son of former Sportsman competitor George Gareis will also make select appearances this season. George Kohrmann and Jimmy Amato are two drivers that have also stated that they will be able to compete in a few of the rookie series races.
On Saturday, April 6, the pit gates swing open at 3:30 p.m. with the grandstand turnstiles opening at 4:30 p.m. Hot laps get cranked up at 5:30 p.m. and racing starts at 6:00 p.m. Adult (16 and older) admission for the season point opener will be $15 with students (10-15) being admitted for $10. Kids 9 and under are free. Admittance to the pits is $30 with a Bridgeport Speedway license and $35 without.
Bridgeport Speedway provides a safe and secure family atmosphere, free parking, giveaways, and fan participation games. As a premier racing complex, Bridgeport Speedway is a banked 5/8th mile dirt oval, featuring a dirt 1/4 mile oval embedded in the center, and is located in Southern New Jersey -- just minutes from Pennsylvania and Delaware at exit 14 off of I-295.

In the Big Block Modified ranks, Matt Sheppard, Eldon Payne, Jerry Higbie, Mike Mahaney, and Tommy Meier are slated to compete in the 60-lap Race of Champions feature that honors Doug Hoffman, the late promoter of the track. Other expected invaders for the race, which will serve as hand one of Bridgeport Speedway’s Poker Series, include Brett Hearn, Bobby Varin, Billy Decker, JR Heffner, Pat Ward, Larry Wight, Jimmy Phelps, Billy Pauch, Duane Howard, Craig Von Dohren, Jimmy Blewett, and Ryan Godown. Bridgeport Speedway stars such as Rick Laubach, Richie Pratt, Jr., Jimmy Horton, Ryan Watt, Eric Kormann, Jesse Hill, Mike Barone, Ron Roberts, Tommy Beamer, and Stan Frankenfield are ready to defend their home turf. New regulars to Bridgeport Speedway in 2013 including Dominic Buffalino, David Hunt, Sam Martz, and Mike McAleer are set to impress the fans. The winner of this event can go home with a cool $6,060.60 by enrolling in the “60 Over Challenge”, a $60 gambler’s fee. Through GuntherRacing.com, a 26-car field will now take the green flag for the 60-lap Big Block Modified feature.
The Crate/Sportsman Poker Series gets underway with a 30-lap feature. Similar to the Big Block Modified class, a large contingent of non-regulars will be on hand including Marc Herman, Bryan Kuhl, Mike Lyons, and Rich Rutski. The top five finishers in the Crate/Sportsman race as well as the Big Block Modified contest will take home trophies courtesy of HCI and Mike Lyons.
In addition, the new Outlaw Stock Car Shoot-Out Series cranks up with the 20-lap Bill Reynolds Memorial Race. This initial contest will honor the late Bridgeport Speedway novelty stand owner. Through Lee Hansen of First Class Painting in Williamstown, NJ, the winner of each of the five Shoot-Out Series events will take home $500.
For this special opening day event, several additional activities are scheduled to take place. Katie Todorow, Miss Motorsports 2013, will be on hand. An Easter Egg Hunt will occur in the quarter mile pit area near the main grandstand entrance. A balloon launch is slated to be held before the first qualifying race takes place. Introduced last season and very popular with fans, the Big Block Modifieds will be staged on the midway behind the spectator stands. After being on display throughout the day, a restored “60 Over” 1986 Olsen Modified formerly driven by Doug Hoffman will pace the feature line-up. Just before the 60-lap race begins, the missing man formation will take shape on the 5/8th mile. Joette Hoffman, Doug’s daughter, will wave the green flag to get the contest underway. All fans and crew members are encouraged to stand on the opening circuit and final tour of the race. Numerous new novelty items will be on sale during the day including a Doug Hoffman photo collage and memorial sticker. 2013 Poker Series shirts and hoodies can be purchased as well.
