The summer, if you call what we had was a summer, quickly turned to fall-like conditions yesterday at the Accord Speedway as the rain came in and went and cool weather filled up the rest of the evening. Nevertheless, the Catskills Mountains of New York State provided the backdrop for a great Friday evening as the Accord Speedway presented it's "Night of Champions" to a large enthusiastic crowd on hand for the event. All track champions were crowned in the final evening of points at the speedway for the 2017 racing season. The over the top event was sponsored by Upstate Auto (www.upstateautoinc.com) and featured a sensational evening paying tribute to all First Responders. The event portion for the First Responders was headed up by Jim Slinsky and the Ulster County Sheriff's Office K9 Team. An over the top presentation featuring music, bag pipes, 21 gun salute, narration, echoing bugles and a tremendous number of fire trucks and emergency equipment filled the speedway. The show was brought to a climactic close with an another fireworks extravaganza from Santore's Famous Fireworks.
The event brought out a nice field of drivers and racing equipment as the event served a dual purpose for the drivers who will be entering the spectacular "King of the Catskills" events scheduled for Friday, September 15th. When the final checkered flag fell from starter Jonathan McGibbons, new champions were crowned for five of the divisions for the 2017 racing season. Accord Speedway was the Checkered Flag bonus sponsor.
Heading up the list of champions is "Showtime" Danny Tyler who enjoyed a great 2017 season and finished strongly to capture the United Pump and Tank Modified division title. "The Bushkill Bullet" Kyle Rohner fought off a myriad of mid season problems to capture four wins during the season on his way to his third Accord Speedway title in the Arkel Motors Sportsmen division. "The High Side Hustler" Eric Jennings put his stamp onto the speedway title in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car division. The pure stock racers had as many as five drivers vying for the title and they raced hard throughout the season but it would be Travis Brockner winning the title in the hotly contested Upstate Auto Pure Stock division to earn his first driving title at Accord. "The Cold Spring Kid" Jake Mason enjoyed a break-out season with eight wins to capture the Want Ad Digest Junior Slingshot title.
The racing action during the evening was hot and heavy on the speedway with a few of the track titles still on the line. "The DC Express" Danny Creeden went out and borrowed a hot rod during the week from fellow racer Chad Loidice and was fast and furious as he captured his third win of the season in the United Pump and Tank Modifieds. "The Otisville Outlaw" Corey Cormier had a fast set of wheels under him as he claimed his second win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman finale. Livy Johnson struggled through a season when she was involved in a mid-season accident in which she suffered a foot injury and was on the shelf for a spell but she put all of the pieces together to capture her first win of the season in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock headliner. "Captain Quick" Jeremy Quick dominated the action to win his third feature of the season in Sprint Car action. Jayden Sleight inherited the lead when Jake Mason suffered mechanical difficulties to capture his second win of the season in the Junior Slingshot feature event. "The Hurricane" Hunter Lapp found a seam to drive to the lead and go and capture his second win of the season in the Rookie Sportsman finale.
The United Pump and Tank Modified division found the veteran Richie Eurich lead lap one of the 30-lap event but fifth starting Danny Creeden hustled and bustled his way into the runner-up slot and grabbed up the lead by lap two. Racing through the field came Andy Bachetti as the wild child started twelfth but was in the top four in just a few laps. By the time Bachetti moved into second, Creeden had checked out on the field. A skirmish or tow slowed the action and brought Bachetti to the back bumper of Creeden for the restarts but Creeden was in the zone and raced to his third win of the season at Accord. Bachetti was second in a great drive while Jimmy Wells raced from 14th to third. Danny Tyler was fourth and Richie Eurich finished fifth. Heading up the second five were Mike Ricci, Kyle VanDuser, Brad Rothaupt, Rich Ricci Jr and Richard Smith.
The WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature found Jeremy Quick grabbing up the lead at the start of event. Quick was quick and was all business as he opened up a sizeable lead through the first half of the race. A caution for the disabled car of Larry McVay slowed the action but on the restart again it would be Quick in command all of the way to his third win of the season. Andrew Davis was second with Bobby Tersillo, Eric Jennings and Corey Wood completing the field.
The Upstate Auto Pure Stock finale proved to be an exciting as well as entertaining event as Livy Johnson jumped into the early lead with sixth starting Bob Sleight finding the topside to his liking as he worked hard to get into the runner-up slot. While the leaders went nose to tail the rest of the way, the drivers vying for the track crown waged a wicked war behind them. Johnson would hold off Sleight to capture her first win of the season while Ray Tarantino would finish third, Travis Brockner fourth and Emerson Cargain fifth. Brockner with his finish would win the title by a mere two points. John Hechinger, Steve Williams, Steven Kanuk, Harry Bachman and Gary Gamble completed the top ten.
Corey Cormier raced into the lead at the start of the Sportsman feature and even though that proved to be the winning move, he would face heavy resistance the rest of the way from the new champion Kyle Rohner. Rohner tried high and he tried low to slip past Cormier but Cormier ran a great raced to capture his second win of the season. Rohner was second with the returning Greg McCloskey running strong from 15th to finish third. Cole Hentschel continued his great work in fourth and Dave Demorest was a solid fifth. Matt Shultz headed up the second five with Nick Plumstead, Tyler Johnston, Joey Bonetti and Jamie Yannone completing the top ten. .
Jake Mason grabbed the lead at the start of the Junior Slingshot feature and would find Jayden Sleight putting the pressure on him from the opening bell. As the laps clicked off the pair remained close and with a couple of laps remaining Mason broke and handed the win to Sleight for his second win of the season.
Kevin Stevens used his outside pole position start to grab the lead at the start of the Rookie Sportsman feature. Stevens would go on to lead past the halfway mark when a a very quick Hunter Lapp found a seam between two slower cars to drive into the lead and go on to win his second feature of the season. Stevens would finish second with Jeff Higham doing great work for third, Vinny Visconti fourth and John Brown rounding out the top five. John Miller, Jared Miller, Alex VanPelt, Brian Durban and Austin Helmich completed the top ten.
GEMSTONES:
Despite the weather, under the tutelage of Promoter Gary Palmer, help from many divisions at the speedway got the track in real good racing trim. Even though the show began late, the speedway staff along with the First Responders Staff put all of the components together to offer the fans a night to remember
The talented roster of drivers tested the many racing channels of the speedway throughout the evening in preparation for the blockbuster "King of the Catskills" spectacular coming up on September 15th and sponsored by Insinger Fuels.
The speedway took an extended intermission period to pay tribute to all of the First Responders who work so diligently to keep our home security safe. Headed up by Jim Slinsky and the Ulster County Sheriff's Office K9 Team, many pieces of equipment came out onto the speedway in darkness and hoisted a 70 foot US Flag through the use of ladder trucks and at the designated moment all lights came on and put up an amazing display that covered the speedway and the entire infield area. Many thanks are in order to all of those who played a part in putting the spectacular event together. Santore's Famous Fireworks once again lit up the sky with their over the top fireworks extravaganza. Special thanks to DJ Tim Adams for his work in the project and the great patriotic music.

"Uncle Mike" Hansen from WRWD Radio was back on board last evening with the WRWD Radio show truck and once again joined announcers Steve Pados and Tim Adams in the tower. Mike thanked promoters Gary and Donna Palmer for their hospitality as he thoroughly enjoys the great racing action taking place on the speedway.
Jerry Fornino was on hand to explain the flag flying at the speedway last evening. Jerry is a retired FBI agent and was at the first bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993 and on 911 in 2001. The flag flying was flown in front of the trade center grounds on February 26, 2003.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Lisa Agate from the Dibble Family and Accord Speedway.
Miss Motorsports, Taylor Albert was on hand at the speedway last evening helping in the victory lane presentations. She also interviewed with track announcer Steve Pados in regards to her reign as Miss Motorsports for 2017.
Heat race action in the Modifieds found Joe Judge, Jesse Marks and Danny Creeden capturing victories. Mike Senecal, Matt Shultz and Cole Hentschel scored heat wins in the Sportsman action. The Pure Stock heats went to Ray Tarantino and Travis Brockner. Eric Jennings captured the Sprint Car heat win. Rookie heat wins went to John Brown and Hunter Lapp.
Grandma Ann's Pies were a big hit with all of the feature winners and two were raffled off during the 50/50. Many thanks to Vinny Visconti Racing for the hat donation and to WRWD for the shirts.

The next event at Accord will be September 15th as the grandaddy of all Accord events, "The King of the Catskills" will take place, sponsored by Insinger Fuels and offering up a huge $5,000.00 pay day to the winner. The Joe Giachinta Memorial for the Sportsman will offer up $1,500.00 to the winner and the Emmanuel's Marketplace Four Cylinders with as much as $2,000.00 on the line will close the show. As summer leaves us and the incoming fall weather joins us, the change in the weather patterns provided the perfect backdrop for the mighty stars and cars of the Accord Speedway on Friday evening to do battle at the "Gem in the Catskills" racing facility. The quiet serenity of the Catskill Mountains gave way to the intoxicating sounds of fast hot rod racing action and an over the top Fireworks Extravaganza on Friday evening and a great crowd of eager racing fans came out to witness their racing heroes carve out a fabulous and entertaining seven division racing card at the speedway. When the final event was checkered, seven happy winners found their way to the WRWD Radio 107.3 FM Victory Lane on an evening sponsored by Emmanuel's Marketplace, the Orange County Fair Speedway, home of the Eastern States 200, Taylor Rental and Dig Safely New York.
In the United Pump and Tank Modified division, "Jammin" Jimmy Wells found all of the racing channels to his liking as he ran down early leader, his Uncle Mike Ricci, took control of the point and romped to his second win of the season and in doing so claimed the qualifying spot for the prestigious 56th running of the Eastern States 200 to be held in Middletown, New York from October 20th to the 22nd. Bob Sleight, the defending champion in the division, turned in a stellar performance as he tracked down early leader John Drake and went on to capture his second win of the season in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock division. Ryan McCartney had the hot ticket in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman finale as he captured his third win of the season. "Kid Ice" Cole Hentschel grabbed the lead early and then had to fend off the challenges of his teammate, "The Bushkill Bullet" Kyle Rohner in the final laps to claim his first win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman feature main event. Larry McVay put the finishing touches on a solid evening of racing as he claimed his second win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car headliner. "The Cold Spring Kid" Jake Mason captured his eighth win of the season in the Want Ad Digest Junior Slingshot division feature. Mike Houghtaling made it three in a row at Accord in the Northeast Vintage Modified feature. "Showtime" Danny Tyler was spot on in challenging and defeating all comers in the Modified Eliminator shoot out.
Mike Ricci and Jesse Marks brought the solid field of United Pump and Tank Modifieds down for the start of the 30-lap headliner. Ricci seized the lead in the second VanDuser Concrete machine and would lead early on although Jimmy Wells came calling from fifth starting spot and worked his way into the runner-up slot by lap ten. Wells was methodical from the baseline as he began his assault on Uncle Mike. Racing side by side for a couple of laps made for a great show between the family but it would be Wells seizing command of the lead at the halfway mark. Once in front, Wells had clear sailing and would go on to capture his second win of the season and with it securing the starting spot for the Eastern State Weekend event in October. Mike Ricci, who has racing sparingly in the 2017 racing season, showed he still has plenty of gusto left with a fine runner-up performance. Scott Ferrier was third with Ed Dachenhausen fourth and Danny Tyler fifth hustling hard to complete the top five. The second five consisted of 15th starting Joe Judge, while Richie Eurich, Jesse Marks, Tommy Johnson and Eddie Burgess.
The Arkel Motors Sportsman division headliner found Nick Plumstead and Cole Hentschel on the front row with Hentschel finding the hot spot on the speedway and grabbing the lead at the start of the event with Plumstead and Dave Demorest following. Kyle Rohner found his way forward and as the early laps clicked off made his way into third place. With the race remaining green Hentschel and Plumstead were all alone as one and two while Rohner made up ground quickly and slipped past Plumstead for second and then set sail for his teammate. The drivers raced around the quarter mile clay nose to tail for at least ten laps as Rohner pulled out all of the stops to slip past Hentschel. Hentschel had his own ideas about the outcome of the event and held of the determined Rohner for his first win at Accord. Rohner was second making it a one/two sweep for the Advanced Concrete Team. Plumstead was third in a great run while Tyler Johnston and Matt Shultz completed the top five. Jamie Yannone headed up the second five with Corey Cormier, the returning Joey Bonetti, Tony Kowlachuk and Rich Ricci III following.
The Upstate Auto sponsored Pure Stock event got underway with John Drake grabbing the lead at the start. Craig Cuneo settled into the runner-up role while John Hechinger and Steve Williams began to challenge. On lap four Cuneo found the room he needed to take over the point and he would lead for three laps until Bob Sleight found the sweet spot he was seeking and drove by Cuneo to take command of the lead. Sleight would go on to record his second win of the season and first win since opening night at the speedway. Hechinger continued his great work with a third place finish while Steve Williams and John Drake completed the top five. Travis Brockner, who was leading the points chase coming into the event, was sixth while Ray Tarantino, Livy Johnson, Jay Smalley and newcomer Jesse Murphy completed the top ten.
Kevin Stevens was shot out a cannon at the start of the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature event. He would lead the first five laps of the event. On a restart, Ryan McCartney and Stevens got together with Stevens slipping out of the racing channel and doing all he could to maintain control of the race car. Stevens lost valuable ground while McCartney would be the new leader. McCartney had himself a fast race car as he would lead the remaining laps to claim his third win of the season at Accord. Vinny Visconti was second while Hunter Lapp, Alex VanPelt and Fred Smith would complete the top five. An interesting note is the top four drivers all came from the Slingshot ranks. John Miller was sixth, while Jeff Higham, newcomer Brian Durban, Kevin Stevens and John Brown completed the top ten.
Larry McVay powered into the lead at the start of the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature. McVay withstood an early challenge from the returning Heidi Hedin and then would fend off the advances of the returning Rich Mellor for the rest of the feature events. McVay was in the zone and would race his way to his second win of the season with Mellor in for runner-up honors. Larry Ricci was third while Bobby Tersillo, Eric Jennings in a borrowed ride and Andrew Davis would complete the field.
The Want Ad Digest Junior Slingshot event found Jake Mason taking control of the event by the end of lap one. Jaden Sleight kept the pressure on for the first half of the race but Mason has enjoyed his best year in racing to date and walked away with his eighth win of the season at Accord. Sleight was second with Brock Pinkerous finishing third.
In the Northeast Vintage Modifieds, Al Houghtaling would lead the first four laps of the event until a determined Bob Schmidt would drive by him. Schmidt built up a lead and would quickly get into slower traffic. Mike Houghtaling seized the opportunity as he caught up to Schmidt in traffic and then used a slower car as a pick to slip past Schmidt for the lead on lap seventeen. Mike Houghtaling would win his third event in as many tries at Accord. Schmidt was second while Ray See Sr, Chuck Davies and Jimmy Halpin would complete the top five. Mike Cole was the first Sportsman across the line.
Danny Tyler put his showtime moniker to good use as he defeated all comers in the Modified Elimination event. Picking a random draw of ten cars, Tyler was guaranteed a spot and wasted no time in defeating one by one the talent placed up against him. Tyler picked up $300.00 for his efforts. Special thanks to Dave Rocket and Marty at Upstate Auto for the award money for the event.
GEMSTONES:
Through the determined efforts of Promoter Gary Palmer, the speedway was in excellent racing condition and the many racing channels provided the drivers a wall to wall track surface to compete on. The close side by side racing action that Accord is well noted for kept the fans on the edge of their seats all night long.
Many, many thanks to the good folks at Emmanuel's Marketplace for sponsoring the over the top fireworks extravaganza presented by Santore's Famous Fireworks. Just as in the Dire Straits song, they did turn the night time into the day. Also special thanks to DJ Tim Adams for a great song selection during the fireworks show.
Pure Stock heats went to Bob Sleight and Livy Johnson. Modified preliminaries were captured by Mike Ricci, Jimmy Wells and Danny Creeden. Cole Hentschel and Nick Plumstead captured the Sportsman heats while John Brown and Alex VanPelt were victorious in the Rookie heats. Larry McVay claimed the Sprint Car heat event. Jaden Sleight claimed the Junior Slingshot heat.
New faces arrived last night for their first Accord start as Joey Bruning was back in action and was solid in his heat but ran into problems during the feature and was an early retiree. Phil Recchio returned to the speedway in the car his son Anthony had been driving most of the season. Joey Bonetti returned to action in the Sportsman. Gary Gamble and Jesse Murphy were two new faces with the Pure Stock Division. Brandon Daley was back in the action in the Rookies and Brian Durban made his initial start with the Rookies.
"Uncle Mike" Hansen from WRWD Radio was on board for the evening and interviewed with announcer Steve Pados for the upcoming First Responders Night on September 8th as the speedway will once again offer a special dedication on the anniversary of 9/11 next week on September 8th as all police, firefighters, correction officers and EMT's will be admitted to the speedway free with their department ID. Upstate Auto will be the headline sponsor for the event which will also highlight the night of champions at the speedway.
The Accord Speedway is sending $688.00 to the Houston, Texas Food Bank as part of the 50/50 last evening. The award was for $344.00 and the Speedway matched in a nice gesture by the Palmer Family and the great fans at Accord.
A super amount of interest is already in place for the upcoming King of the Catskills weekend at the speedway. With some very big dollars in place, a banner field is anticipated. More information will be released as the countdown is coming quickly.
Wes Davis, the sound technician at Accord, brought along his Grandson Joshua for his first visit to the speedway.
Leni Fornino, a fifteen year old student at Roundout Valley, sang the National Anthem last evening and did a wonderful job.
Avery Bonesfell and Benjamin Curry won bikes at the Speedway. Congratulations!

While great weather has been at a premium for the 2017 racing season, the Hamlin Speedway has soldiered on and has produced great racing shows for their loyal fan base. Saturday night was no exception as cars and stars by the numbers brought a standing room only crowd to the Hamlin Speedway as the Smith Family and Staff presented a superb nine feature race card on Saturday evening. Hamlin Speedway Promoter Randy Smith had the 1/5th mile oval as "fit as a fiddle" and the 110 entries who signed in for battle used every inch of the raceway to carve out a wonderful night of entertainment for the appreciative crowd. The Smith Family orchestrated the nine feature event program by 10:55 PM in the evening that found some of the top stars at the speedway strutting their stuff while some new faces also found out it feels very good to be sitting at the top of the racing podium. JPA Masonry located in Mount Pocono and S&S Speedways Indoor Go Karts located in Stroudsburg co-sponsored the evening of speed.
With two feature events being curtailed last week due to a quick hitting storm, one holdover event was added to the Saturday show and it would be "The Nickel Man" Joel Smith capturing the held over event and later coming back to win the nightcap to bag a double in the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modifieds. The All Star Slingshot feature headliner was captured by "The Bloomingburg Bullet" Taylor Mills as he added his third win of the season. "The Gingerbread Man" Damon Paul had the hot ticket as ran away from the field to score his second win of the season in the JPA Masonry Wingless 600 Sprint headliner. Tyler Ulrich returned to Hamlin and scored his first win of the season in the Wingless 270 Sprint feature. Mike Taylor had the hot ticket in Super Slinger action as he wired the field for his fifth win of the season. "The Cold Spring Kid" Jake Mason claimed his second win of the season in the rough and tumble Junior Slingshot finale. The JPA Masonry Rookie 600 Sprints offered two feature events with a strong field of cars and "The Big Show" Joey Amantea drove to his fifth win of the season in the first one and Paul Richards Jr was spot on as he scored his fourth win of the season in the second feature.
Taylor Mills grabbed the lead at the start of the 23-car field All Star Slingshot feature event as he took advantage of his pole start to blast out front. Troy Langendoerfer and Josh Marcus kept pace early on with Austin Silfee hustling in to make his bid for the lead. Mills was able to step away from the field at times with lots of battles for position happening behind him. The two and three wide racing action at mid-pack was spectacular with driver after driver making his bid for the next position ahead of him. This was a night for Taylor Mills as he was in the zone and drove away to a safe margin over the Silfee Boys, Jared who was second and Austin who finished third. Cody Kline kept his eye on the prize as he drove from 14th place to finish fourth. Tyler Peet completed the top five. Early contender Josh Marcus was sixth with Samantha Muller, Ashley Kober, Tanner VanDoren and Greg Zellman rounding out the top ten.
The Super Slingers main event found the red hot Mike Taylor blasting out of the starting gate at the drop of the green flag battling with Jim Conroy for the top spot. Taylor secured the lead down the backstretch and was able to open up some distance with some very quick 13.850 second laps to drive away and capture his fifth win of the season. Conroy was second with a great finish while John Gilroy was third, Dale Kober fourth and Greg Zellman completing the finishing order.
Glenn Macomber led in the first twelve laps of the 270 Sprint main. Coming out of turn four Kyle Ferrucci tried to make the move for the lead but tangled with Macomber and got upside down in front of the flag stand. Ferrucci was not hurt in the incident. Tyler Ulrich inherited the lead and led all of the remaining laps to secure his first Hamlin Speedway win. Alex Reinsmith put on a whale of a show as he ran hard for runner-up honors. just nipping Macomber at the line.
The Junior Slingshot feature found James Benz on the pole for the start and Benz would lead through the first half of the event until Jake Mason found the spot he was seeking on the raceway and drove by Benz to control the point. After that, Mason found that was he needed as he drove away from the field to go on to record his second win of the season at Hamlin. Adam Buchel continued his solid efforts by finishing second while newcomer Ryan Conrad, Shelby McLaughlin and the much improved James Costlow completing the top five. The remainder of the field were Tyler Banks, Joey Kalafut and James Hendricks
The start of the first JPA Masonry Rookie 600 Wingless Sprint event found Joey Amantea putting it all together to lead all laps as he could place his race car from the baseline to the speedway's outer reaches enroot to his fifth win at the speedway. Tony Parlanti challenged throughout but would settle for runner-up honors in a great drive. Joe Nemeth was third in his return to the speedway while Ryan Lacoe and Jason Muldowney completed the top five. Cody Powell, Chloe Andreas, Aidan Borden, Ryan Stangle and newcomer Mike Traver completed the field.
On the second Rookie 600 encounter, Carmen Leggio Sr led for the first lap but a burst of power and an open inside line allowed Paul Richards Jr to drive by everyone in his wake to take the lead. While a few skirmishes slowed down the action, Richards was in command. A two lap to go restart allowed Noah Zielinski and opportunity to seize the moment as he closed quickly on Richards but Richards held on for his fourth win of the season with Zielinski in for runner-up honors. Zack Weisenfluh was third with Macy Litchauer, Carmen Leggio Sr, Savannah Leggio, Jack Hanna, Dennis Stawinski and Ron Bosga completing the field.
The held over Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified event found Anthony Recchio hustling out front at the drop of the green flag and leading through the first half of the event until being sidelined with mechanical woes. Joel Smith inherited the lead and led the remaining laps to capture the win with Cole Stangle a close second. Cody Motto was third while newcomer Andrew Vreeland was fourth and Joel Price nailing down fifth. John Mirabelli, Amanda Buchel, Mike Jablonka, Evan Civick and Mark Corna completed the top ten.
In the second feature, Mark Corna led the first lap before yielding to the high flying Cole Stangle. Stangle would set the pace while working hard to keep the hard charging Joel Smith behind him. As Smith drove up alongside him, Stangle encountered a slower car and allowed for Smith to slip past and take the lead. Smith would lead the final laps to garner in his eighth win of the season while Cody Motto hustled until the end to get by Stangle and finish second with Stangle third, Anthony Recchio fourth after starting 17th and Joel Price fifth. Amanda Buchel, in her first attempts at the Stage One Modifieds, was impressive as she headed up the second five with Mark Corna, Michael Samony, newcomer Mark Evans and John Mirabelli following.
Damon Paul took the lead at the start of the headline 600 Sprint event. His racer and he were working the racing channels to perfection with Mick D'Agostino, Danny Buccafusca and the returning Doug Snyder challenging. Paul was on rails and he stretched the lead at will turning laps under the twelve second mark. Buccafusca was able to slip under D'Agostino for the runner-up spot by the midway point of the race. Former two-time track champion Eddie Strada started tenth and with real estate at a premium, methodically worked his way forward. Strada was able to slip underneath current track champion Chad Sandt for fifth at the twenty lap mark but couldn't move up after that. Paul was the man of the moment of as he went on to score his second win of the season and perhaps the biggest win of his young racing career thus far.
Buccafusca did an excellent job for runner-up honors with Mick D'Agostino a very close third. Doug Snyder was fourth in his return to the speedway and Strada would complete the top five. The second five was headed up by Chad Sandt with Tyler Ulrich, Jacob Balliet, Joel Smith and Ryan Neil following. The fast paced event had 16 of the 21 starters completing the event a strong tribute to the drivers and to the crews who maintain the race cars.
PEARL JAMS:
The hotly contested evening of racing entertainment began on time and the staff kept moving the program along swiftly with a couple of breaks taken for track maintenance on the track surface to keep the track racy throughout the evening. Once again Smith and Company got the job done without reservation. The large standing room only crowd on hand for the event witnessed a great evening of racing entertainment.
Time trials found the Wingless 270 Sprints taking time with Tyler Ulrich just nipping Glenn Macomber for top honors with a fast time of 12.819 for Ulrich and Macomber posting a 12.953 time. Mike Taylor was the top timer for the Super Slingers with a 14.274 second time and nipping John Gilroy who timed at 14,395 seconds.
Jake Mason and John Kendall were victorious in the Junior Slingshot heats. Ashley Kober, Taylor Mills and Austin Silfee captured the Slingshot heat wins. Two rounds of heat action was needed to set the 600 Sprint field and winners included Danny Buccafusca, Damon Paul and Mick D'Agostino in round one while newcomer Kenny Miller, Chad Sandt and Duane White recorded wins in round two. Rookie 600 Sprint heats went to Tony Parlanti, Paul Richards Jr and Ryan Stangle. Stage One Modified heats were claimed by Cole Stangle and Joel Smith.
Newcomers made their way to the speedway last night in droves. John Gilroy Jr and Rachel Dickinson made their first starts in the Slingshots. Tyler Ulrich made his first 270 start at Hamlin since early in the season. Jason Muldowney and Mike Traver were new faces for the Rookie 600 Sprints while the returning for his second week was Rich Maguire, who was sporting new colors and numbers. Amanda Buchel looked right at home in the Stage One Modifieds as she was aboard the Smith Fabrications Rental car and earned a sixth and a seventh place finishes in her debut. Mark Evans was aboard the Motto family Stage One car. Eddie Strada, Doug Snyder, Jason Muldowney, Tyler Ulrich and Kenny Miller were among the outsiders list for the 600 Sprint entries.
Kyle Ferrucci in the 270 Sprints and John Bachetti Sr in the Stage One Modifieds were roll over victims during the evening but both drivers were ok from the incidents.
Ryan Stangle turned twelve years old so birthday greetings are in order.
The speedway is gearing up for some big events on the horizon with the 2017 racing season hitting the final stages. The annual Roy Smith Memorial for the Stage One Modifieds takes place on September 2nd as the speedway ushers in Labor day. Racing every Saturday evening from April through September. The next event on the Hamlin Speedway schedule is set for September 2nd when all regular divisions will be in action and highlighted by the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modifieds competing in the Roy Smith Memorial as the speedway pays tribute to one of the great pioneers of Modified racing. The event will follow a dual heat format. An All Star Slingshot event from August 19th will be made up as well.

The Accord Speedway has suffered through the 2017 with rainout after rainout and most recently two consecutive postponements. With a mixture of sun and clouds on Friday night and offering a great day in the Catskills, the speedway swung back into racing action on as promoters Gary and Donna Palmer were able to produce a great night of racing at the speedway. The talented roster of drivers were more than anxious to set their wheels in motion on the speedway after two weeks of sitting out race events. Despite the constant interference from the weather, Promoter Gary Palmer had the speedway in great shape and racing trim as the captivating racing action spread across the speedway with at least four distinct racing channels for the drivers to work their magic. The racing action was excellent in the eight divisions offered and he evening of speed was sponsored by the good folks at Tom's Repair Shop located in New Paltz, New York.
The hotly contested events found "Gentleman" Ed Dachenhausen sailing to his career win in the United Pump and Tank Modifieds and doing so by wiring the field. Tony Kowalchuk took advantage of a front row starting spot as he drove to his second win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman event. "The Italian Stallion" Vinny Visconti was cat-quick as he captured his second win of the season in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature event. "Captain Quick" Jeremy Quick was just that as he drove to his second win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car finale. The Want Ad Digest sponsored Junior Slingshot division found youngster Brock Pinkerous finding the hot ticket to victory lane as he scored his second 2017 win at the speedway. "The Intimidator" Ray Tarantino used a mid-race charge to become the victor of the Upstate Auto Pure Stock encounter for his fourth win at the speedway for 2017. Former track champion Peter Dance was spot on as he winged his way to victory in the twenty lap Lightning Sprint feature event. Dave Donovan added another notch to his win column as he claimed the Emmanuel's Marketplace 4-Cylinder Enduro night cap for his fourth consecutive win in a row.
Ed Dachenhausen and Mike Ricci brought the United Pump and Tank Modified field down for the start of the 30-lap headliner. Dachenhausen was a man possessed as he jumped out front and distanced himself quickly from the competition. A couple of skirmishes slowed the pace a bit but Dachenhausen was clicking off steady 13.3 second laps and with each restart left the remainder of the field in his wake. Brad Rothaupt broke into second place early on and took up the chase. When the leaders hit slower traffic, Dachenhausen moved through them faster than Rothaupt and built up a bigger lead and crossed under Rich Roosa's checkered flag for his first career Modified win at the speedway. Rothaupt was a strong runner-up with Richard Smith continuing to do great work at the speedway with a third place at the end. Rich Ricci Jr was fourth and point leader Danny Tyler rounded out the top five. Mike Ricci steered the second VanDuser racer to sixth place with Scott Ferrier, Danny Creeden, the returning Tommy Johnson and Ken Ferrier completing the top ten.
The Arkel Motors Sportsman headliner found Tony Kowalchuk with the hot foot as he grabbed the lead quickly with Tyler Johnston applying the pressure. Kowalchuk found a home at the top of the speedway and rim-rode his way off the cushion to lead all laps on his way to victory even though Johnston kept the pressure on throughout the event. Johnston would finish second with Rich Ricci III in third, Nick Johnson fourth and the returning Jamie Yannone nailing down fifth place. Robbie Knipe, Cole Hentschel, Greg McCloskey, Matt Shultz and the returning Rafael Carson completed the top ten.
The WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature main event found Vinny Visconti leading the first three laps until a spin slowed the action. On the restart Jeff Higham grabbed the lead and would lead a lap before a strong move by Visconti placed him back at the top of the heap. From then on Visconti found clear sailing throughout the remainder of the race to go on and claim his second feature win of the season at the Accord Speedway. Hunter Lapp continues to impress with a strong runner-up finish while the Jeff Higham was third, John Brown fourth and Ryan McCartney finishing fifth. Jared Miller headed up the second five with Alex VanPelt, Kevin Stevens, Michael Corbin and John DeWitt making up the remainder of the field.
The WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car main found Corey Wood getting upside down on the first lap. Wood walked away unhurt but severe damage was done to the race car. On the restart Jeremy Quick hustled to the top reaches of the speedway and grabbed the lead and found it an easy ride from there as he raced to his second win of the season. Larry Ricci finished second with Bobby Tersillo and Andrew Davis completing the field.
The Want Ad Digest Junior Slingshot main event was all Brock Pinkerous as the young speedster fought off early challenges from Jaden Sleight and Jake Mason to cruise to his second win of the season. Jake Mason hustled to a fine runner-up run with newcomer Amber Baccglini third.
The Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature kicked off with Steve Williams getting the drop on the field at the start of the event. Ray Tarantino grabbed up the runner-up slot early on and began to stick the nose of his race car under Williams letting him know he was there. Tarantino made the winning move off of turn two to take command of the lead and would lead the remaining laps to claim his fourth win of the season. Williams would finish second with John Hechinger third while Travis Brockner and Emerson Cargain Jr would complete the top five. Bob Sleight headed up the second five with the returning Jay Smalley, Steven Kanuk, the returning Shawn Maloney and Craig Cuneo finishing out the top ten.
The Empire Lightning Sprint feature found former three time track champion Clint Roehrs in the drivers seat for the first ten laps before another former champion Peter Dance drove his Pat Potter owned hot rod around him on the outside to take command of the lead. Dance would go on to capture the win with the hard charging Rich Wood finishing second. If Wood could have claimed the win there was a bounty waiting for him by he fell one short of the mark. Roehrs was third with Canadian Tony Moreau finishing fourth and Justin Phillips rounding out the top five.
The Emmanuel's Marketplace 4 Cylinder Enduro event closed out the show with Scott Gumaer leading the first six laps before yielding to the high flying Dave Donovan. Donovan was leading but a trio of racers were chasing him with each passing lap. Lap-29 would find Dan Curry taking over the and quickly stretched it out until lap-33 when he abruptly spun out and was out of the event. Donovan inherited the lead and would lead the remainder of the way to claim his fourth straight at the speedway. Gene Helms was the runner-up and contended throughout the event. Joe Rotella made it to the podium in third place.

Tom's Repair Shop located in New Paltz, New York was the headline sponsor for the evening and supported the speedway with three cars competing in three divisions at the speedway. "Tommy Gun" Tommy Johnson competes in the Modifieds, Nick Johnson in the Sportsman and Livy Johnson has been a fixture in the Pure Stocks. Many thanks to the Johnson Family for their support of the racing at Accord.
The eight divisions who made their way onto the speedway to do battle resulted in many exciting heat races that found John Miller and John Brown winning the Rookie Sportsman qualifiers. Modified heats were claimed by Richard Smith, Ed Dachenhausen and Brad Rothaupt. Jeremy Quick claimed the Sprint Car heat win. Ray Tarantino and Emerson Cargain Jr were victorious in the Pure Stock division heats. Tyler Johnston, Tony Kowalchuk and Brandon McGill captured the Sportsman heat wins. Jaden Sleight claimed the Junior Slingshot heat event. Rich Wood was victorious in the Lightning Sprint heat.
New cars and drivers that arrived for action last night included Austin Helmich and Robbie Colburn in the Rookie Sportsmen. Howard Jarvis, a strong contender for years at Accord, took a ride in the Plumstead owned Sportsman car. Joey Bruning broke in hot laps in the New York Truck Parts entry and Kyle VanDuser was sidelined early on with mechanical problems. The Pure Stock ranks were bolstered by Shawn Maloney and Shawny Hazel. Amber Baccaglini was a new addition to the Junior Slingshot ranks.
Speedway regular Heidi Hedin was missing in action as she took a hard tumble in the catch fence at the New Egypt Speedway last Saturday night. Heidi will return to action at Accord soon. Brian Malcolm had rough night at the speedway as through no fault of his own was involved in two incidents with heavy damage to the County Waste/Stafursky NAPA/Sharkey's Fuel sponsored hot rod. Eric Jennings also had some problems as his sprinter suffered heavy damage in his heat event, and Larry McVay and Corey Wood encountered problems in the Sprint feature
The Enduro event was exciting The drivers were quick as they raced through the disabled cars and really put on a super show for the fans.
With only a few weeks left in the regular season, it is imperative those seeking a point championship be at their very best in the last remaining events to be able to be in a position to make a run for the title. These are the championship weeks as the racing intensifies and leads to the "Night of Champions" on September 8th, which will be presented by Upstate Auto as a special tribute night for first responders.
Uncle Mike Hansen was back in the booth for the racing action and talked about the upcoming first responders event that is growing in leaps and bounds.

The splendid warm rays of the summer sunshine continued to latch onto the scenic Pocono Mountain landscape for most of Saturday but the weather quickly reared its ugly head after five features had been completed and turned the Hamlin Speedway grounds into a sea of mud. Promoters Denise and Randy Smith ushered in another fabulous edition of the 2017 racing season at Hamlin and with it another exciting night of racing entertainment. The large crowd on hand was treated to another all-out display of daredevil, seeking out the cushion activity from the more than one hundred racers that came to do battle on Saturday evening. The last event was checkered at 18-laps when the skies opened up and had everyone seeking shelter from the storm that followed. The five feature card was once again presented by JPA Masonry located in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania and S&S Speedways Indoor Go Karts located in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The remaining two feature events for the All Star Slingshots and the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modifieds will be added to next week's show making the evening a nine feature event spectacular.
When the final scorecards were tallied it was Mike Taylor racing to his fourth win of the season in the Super Slinger finale. Also claiming wins in the star studded events included "The Travelin Man" Mick D'Agostino as he ruled the roost from every angle around the speedway to capture his second win of the season in the JPA Masonry Wingless 600 Sprint main. "The Fearless One" Kyle Ferrucci added another notch to his gun belt with his fourth win of the season in the Wingless 270 Sprint main. "Junior Excitement" JJ Rice scored his second win of the season at Hamlin in the Junior Slingshot finale in an event where the final laps resembled a small car demolition derby. Paul Richards Jr was spot on as he sped to his third victory of the season in the JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 feature event.
The five feature events were exciting to say the least and the "stars of tomorrow" Junior Slingshot division began well with Abby Yates having the quick right foot as she jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag and attacked the race track as she quickly sped away from the rest of the field. A couple of cautions slowed the pace but each time Yates was able to hold the field at bay with some 14.7 second lap times. With two laps to go, Yates was spun out by Mikey Johannes causing a caution and ending Yates bid for her second win at the speedway. On the restart JJ Rice was the leader but was bumped by John Kendall. Kendall was the leader on lap-19 but Rice came storming back and additional contact caused more commotion and Rice was able to keep his momentum going and scored the win. Austin Homan, Joey Kalafut, Rachel Dickinson and John Kendall completed the top five. Adam Buchel headed up the remainder of the finishers followed by Abby Yates, Mikey Johannes, James Hendricks and James Benz.
The JPA Masonry Rookie 600 Sprints found pole sitter Tyler Lindsey out dragging Tony Parlanti into turn one. Lindsey would lead for four laps before yielding to the baseline hugging Paul Richards Jr. Richards owned the bottom of the speedway on this night and would go on to capture his third feature win despite solid performances by Tyler Lindsey in second and Joey Amantea finishing third in a new ride for him. Noah Zielinski was fourth and last week's winner Ryan Stangle rounded out the top five. Ryan Lacoe, the returning Scott Rupp, Jack Hanna and newcomer Dennis Chamberlain completed the field.
The Wingless 270 Sprint headliner found Alex Reinsmith getting the jump on Glenn Macomber when the green flag came out. The event settled into a high speed chase as third starting Kyle Ferrucci was on the move and slipped past Macomber and set sail for Reinsmith. Lap seven proved to be the winning move for Ferrucci as he drove by Reinsmith to take over the point. Ferrucci would lead the remaining laps to go and score his fourth win of the season. Reinsmith, Macomber and newcomer Nathanial Krotzer completed the field.
Super Slinger action found Mike Taylor getting the jump on the field at the start of the event. Taylor would build up a huge lead while Dale Kober and Jeff Haduck were lodged in a great battle for the runner-up role. This night was taylor-made as Mike Taylor would go on to score his fourth win of the season. Kober had more than enough power to land in the runner-up role with Jeff Haduck third in a great run, Wes Hearn fourth, the returning Roger Collins fifth and Jimmy Conroy sixth. and fifth.
The JPA Masonry Wingless 600 Sprint main found Mick D'Agostino grabbing the lead going into turn one as he outhustled Jacob Balliet for the point. While securing the lead, D'Agostino was put to work with Balliet, Joel Smith, Damon Paul and Colin White working every angle to try to make something big happen. D'Agostino worked his lane to perfection and turned in consistent laps of 12.3 seconds to drive to his second win of the season for the Massachusetts based speedster. Balliet was excellent in a strong runner-up performance. Joel Smith and Damon Paul put on an excellent show of racing and sportsmanship on the speedway for third and fourth place while Colin White completed the top five. The second five were close as well with Chad Sandt, Duane White, Mack Brink, Ryan Neil and Cody Smith completing the top ten.
PEARL JAMS:
Heat racing action at Hamlin continued to fuel the fires that make Hamlin Speedway the place to be on Saturday nights as Joey Amantea and Paul Richards Jr were victorious in the Rookie 600 Sprint heat events. Two heats were required for the Stage One Modifieds with Cody Motto and John Comandini securing wins. Mike Taylor captured the heat win for the Super Slingers. Damon Paul and Jacob Balliet enjoyed great nights all around as they captured heat wins in the Wingless 600 Sprints and had great finishes in the feature headliner. Glenn Macomber captured the heat win in the 270 Sprints. The All Star Slingshots ran two heats with Taylor Mills and CJ Fritz capturing the wins. The Junior Slingshots ran one heat with JJ Rice securing the win.
Newcomers or returning racers to the Hamlin Speedway for the Saturday night racing action included Ryan Neil and Adam Huff in the 600 Sprints. Roger Collins returned to action for the Super Slingers. Scott Rupp and Rich Maguire were first timers for the Rookie 600 Sprints with Maguire steering the former Jerry Rutledge racer. Meredith Howell put the Smith Fabrications Stage One Rental car through its paces for the evening.
Joey Amantea had a wreck at another speedway and returned to Hamlin on Saturday evening in another racer they recently purchased. Savannah Leggio expired a motor in her 600 Sprint.
With the heavy amount of precipitation that has fallen recently, another yeoman's effort was turned in by Randy Smith and Staff as they kept pace with the speedway all evening long until the storms rolled into the speedway.
Some big events will be coming to Hamlin in the last few weeks of the season. The added two postponed features will be run next week with the JPA Masonry Wingless 600 Sprint special taking place. A dual heat format along with a hefty payday should bring out a nice field of race cars to the Poconos for the event.
The Roy Smith Memorial for the Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modifieds will welcome in Labor Day weekend at the speedway. A dual heat format and a 30-lap feature will honor one of the pioneers of Modified racing on the East Coast.

As the summer sunshine continues to capture the beautiful scenic Pocono Mountain landscape, the drivers and crews of a special breed of racers continue to compete and put on great shows at the Hamlin Speedway and Saturday night was no exception. Promoters Denise and Randy Smith offered another fabulous edition of the 2017 racing season at Hamlin and the talented roster of drivers once again displayed their daredevil, race to the walls brand of racing excitement. A large crowd was on hand to witness the show as one hundred and eight racers came to do battle on Saturday evening. The seven feature card was presented by S&S Speedways Indoor Go Karts located in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania and JPA Masonry located in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania.
When the final scorecards were tallied it was "The Oxford Express" Dale Kober scoring his eighth win of the season in the Super Slinger finale. "The Angle" Cole Stangle continues to raise the bar as he sped to his second win of the season in the Hampton RV and Trailer Stage One Modified Division. Duane White led all of the way to capture his first ever career win in the JPA Masonry Wingless 600 Sprint main. "The Fearless One" Kyle Ferrucci added another notch to his gun belt with his third win of the season in the Wingless 270 Sprint main. Jack VanVarick, competing in only in a handful of events this season, was in the zone as he raced to his first win of the season at Hamlin in the Junior Slingshot finale. "The Ry-Guy" Ryan Stangle has only been competing at Hamlin a few times but he was spot on as he sped to his first career victory of the season in the JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 feature event. In the headliner event of the evening, "The Oley Jet" Brett Bieber led all thirty laps to claim his second win of the season at Hamlin in the All Star Slingshot finale.
The seven feature events were all excellent runs and the "stars of tomorrow" Junior Slingshot drivers continue to excel with each turn of the steering wheel as seventeen drivers began the feature on Saturday night. JJ Rice and Jack VanVarick brought the field to the line. VanVarick jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag and the move would prove to be the winner as VanVarick would withstand a full blown effort from Rice to lead all twenty laps to capture his first career win at Hamlin in his Bangor Steel Sponsored hot rod. A scramble on the final lap found Adam Buchel notching a runner-up finish in his Cole Polishing sponsored mount. Rice would finish third with Jake Mason and Shelby McLaughlin completing the top five. Heading up the second five was John Kendall with Mikey Johannes, Tyler Banks, Abby Yates and Kyle Swart all nailing down top ten finishes.
Mark Corna raced into the lead in turn one at the start of the Hampton RV and Trailer Stage One Modified main event. Corna would lead for a lap before yielding to Mike Samony as the mighty one used a strong top shelf maneuver to take away the lead from Corna. Samony would lead through lap nine as when he encountered slower traffic Cole Stangle was the johnny on the spot and grabbed the lead. That would be the only move Stangle would need as he controlled the point despite the fact he had Pat VanVarick and Joel Smith breathing down his tailpipes. Cole Stangle would race to his second win with VanVarick and Joel Smith behind him. John Comandini was fourth and Anthony Recchio rounded out the top five. Michael Samony headed up the second five with newcomer Andrew Vreeland, Cody Motto, newcomer Jacob Nemeth and John Bachetti Sr completing the top ten.
The JPA Masonry Rookie 600 Sprint feature found Ryan Stangle hustling out front at the start of the event. Stangle was able to find the line he wanted and stayed true to the line throughout the running of the event. Paul Richards Jr took up the chase at the halfway point and closed nose to tail with Stangle but a costly jingle with a slower car coming to the finish line created the loss of valuable real estate at the end. Stangle would capture the win with Macy Litchauer second, Joey Amantea third, Ryan Lacoe fourth and Chloe Andreas returning to action to nail down fifth place. Paul Richards Jr headed up the second five with Carmen Leggio Sr, Zack Weisenfluh, newcomer Mike Thompson and Jack Hanna completing the top ten.

Once in front, Kober was able to race to daylight while some heated racing action was going on behind him. Kober has had the hot hand all season long and sped to his eighth win of the season with Greg Zellman making a valiant effort to finish in the runner-up role. Mike Taylor was third with Donny Hockman grabbing up fourth in the Tess Horvath race car, Wes Hearn fifth and Jimmy Conroy making up the remainder of the field.
The JPA Masonry 600 Wingless Sprint main found South Abington Township resident Duane White driving to daylight at the drop of the green flag. White kept a steady pace with plenty of heated action going on behind him. Joseph Smith and Joel Smith had their own battle gong and Mack Brink and Mick D'Agostino would join the battle several laps later. This was a night when everything went (r)white as Duane White raced to his first career win at Hamlin. Joseph Smith outlasted Joel Smith for runner-up honors with Joel Smith, Mack Brink and Mick D'Agostino completing the top five. Damon Paul, Colin White, Danny Buccafusca, the returning Pat Bealer and the returning Ryan Quackenbush completed the top ten finishers.
Thirty three cars attempted to qualify for the next to last leg of the Slingshot Speedweeks event. Utilizing the dual heat format, Brett Bieber earned the pole start for the thirty lap headliner. Bieber out gunned Dylan Hoch into turn one and the move would prove to be the highlight reel as Bieber hit his marks constantly around the speedway and later in the race was able to drive away from the field in between caution flags. Bieber would earn his second win of the season with Hoch in the runner-up role. Cody Kline was third with Tyler Peet and Jared Silfee completing the top five. Dale Kober headed up the second five with Mike Taylor, Cole Stangle, Russell Benke and Seth Spayd following. The next five in line were Samantha Muller, Alan Kober, Amanda Buchel, Dakota Kohler and Anthony Raisner. Twenty of the twenty seven starters completed all thirty laps of the feature event.
PEARL JAMS:

Two rounds of heats were need to establish the starting lineup for the All Star Slingshots and capturing heat wins were Wes Hearn, Brett Bieber, Dylan Hoch and Troy Langerdoerfer in round one while Seth Spayd, Tyler Peet, Russell Benke and Alan Kober were victorious in the second round.
The Junior Slingshot ran time trials with Shelby McLaughlin holding the hot hand at 14.890 seconds over JJ Rice and Tyler Banks.
Newcomers or returning racers to the Hamlin Speedway scene for the Saturday night racing action included Brian Smith in the Junior Slingshots. Donny Hockman returned to action in the Super Slingers. The All Star Slingshots featured Dylan Hoch, Brett Bieber, Seth Spayd, Anthony Raisner, Kyle Herve, Dakota Kohler and Joe Toth. Tanner Jones was leading his heat event when he expired an engine in his racer. Mike Thompson, Dennis Chamberlain, Ryan Quackenbush, Pat Bealer and Eddie Strada were in action in the 600 Sprints. Chloe Andreas and Dennis Stawinski Jr returned to action in the Rookie 600 Sprints. Jacob Nemeth and Meredith Howell were on hand to do battle in the Stage One Modifieds.
Despite all of the rain that has inundated the Northeast, Randy Smith had the speedway in great shape for the evening of speed and three and four wide action in the heat events was commonplace. At intermission Smith brought out the grader to give the drivers an equal race track to compete on and the racing was over the top great.
Cindy Motto won the 50/50.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Ed Strada Jr on his 50th birthday.
Scranton Times writer Scott Walsh took in the racing action for the first time and came away very impressed with the professionally run speedway and the over the top talent that exists at Hamlin. Walsh is preparing some future stories regarding the Hamlin Driving roster.
Congratulations are in order for Hamlin drivers for the great showing on Tuesday night at the Reading Nostalgia Nationals with Shelby McLaughlin capturing the Junior Slingshot event and Jared Silfee winning the All Star Slingshot event in the Randy and Denise Smith owned Slingshot making it a clean sweep in the winner's circle.
"The Communicator" Matthew Gaughan took in the show this week as he drove in from Ohio.

On a warm summer day that found the temperatures dropping quickly when the sun disappeared, Hamlin Speedway Promoters Randy and Denise Smith turned up the heat on Saturday evening and hosted another excellent night of racing action for the large crowd on hand. Randy Smith and crew had the Hamlin Speedway in tip-top racing form as the stars and cars of the speedway rocked the house with their special brand of racing excitement and theatrics. One hundred racers were on hand for the seven feature event racing card and was wrapped up by 10:19 PM. The evening of speed was sponsored by JPA Masonry & Trucking located in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania
Heading up the list of winners on Saturday evening included "The Electric Man" Colin White as he raced his White Mechanical sponsored racer to his second win of the season in a wire to wire triumph in the JPA Masonry Wingless 600 Sprint competition. Additional winners included "The Taylor Tornado" Zack Weisenfluh as he each captured his second win in the JPA Masonry Rookie 600 Sprints. Austin Silfee gathered in his first win of the season in the All Star Slingshot feature headliner. "The Oxford Express" Dale Kober was spot on as he added his seventh Super Slinger win to his total for the season. "Deuce" Glenn Macomber wired the field for his sixth win of the season in the Wingless 270 Sprint headliner. "The Nickel Man" Joel Smith was throttle quick and raced to his sixth victory in the exciting Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified main. "Lil Miss" Shelby McLaughlin earned her fifth win of the season in the very competitive Junior Slingshot finale.
The evening of feature attractions found Dale Kober rocketing out front at the start of the Super Slinger finale. Kober reeled off some quick times in the 14.2 second range to gain a big advantage but Mike Taylor stayed close in the first half of the event. Kober would race on to earn his seventh win of the season with Taylor and the returning Greg Zellman and Roger Collins completing the field.
The Junior Slingshot twenty lap headliner found Jake Mason with the hot hand as he led for the first six laps of the event. Mason, who was coming off a win at Accord Speedway the night prior, would give way to Shelby McLaughlin on lap seven. While McLaughlin held the field at bay, a quadrant of New Yorkers fought tooth and nail for the remainder of the feature for runner-up honors. The budding stars John Kendall, Jake Mason, Tyler Banks and Kyle Swart provided some great racing action throughout the twenty lap run as the racing was fast and tight and the action was superb. McLaughlin would claim her fifth win of the season with Kendall, Mason, Banks and Swart finishing under a blanket at the checkered flag. The next five in line were Rachel Dickinson, Abby Yates, Adam Buchel, James Costlow and Austin Homan.
The 20-lap headliner for the All Star Slingshot racers proved to be a barn burner right from the start with equal cars and stars making up the first three rows of competition. Austin Silfee seized the lead at the start of the event and was able to handle the hot-heat placed on him by as many as six drivers all hoping to find the sweet spot that would propel them forward. Mike McLaughlin, Cody Kline, Tyler Peet, Damon Paul, Alan Kober and Taylor Mills raced together throughout the remainder of the feature mirroring every move by Silfee but it would be Austin Silfee capturing his first win of the season in a wire to wire triumph. Behind Silfee the outcome was in doubt as Kline and McLaughlin got together just before the start/finish line with Kline ending up finishing second, Tyler Peet sneaking in for third, McLaughlin fourth and Damon Paul fifth. Alan Kober was sixth followed by Taylor Mills, Dale Kober, Joshua Marcus and Dillon Emmons.
Carmen Leggio Sr jumped into the lead in the JPA Masonry Rookie 600 Sprint event but a third lap skirmish involving Ryan Stangle and Joe Nemeth with Nemeth getting the worst of it and needing wrecker service. Nemeth was unhurt in the incident and when green flag racing returned it was Leggio leading but being hounded by Joey Amantea. The drivers matched moves with Leggio preferring the top side and Amantea working the baseline to perfection as he got closer lap after lap. Amantea's bid was thwarted when he came off the turn too tight and clipped a tire and he too needed wrecker service. On the restart, Leggio powered on but Zack Weisenfluh began to put the pressure on. On lap fifteen, Weisenfluh powered into the lead when Leggio slipped up high and Weisenfluh would lead the remaining laps to claim his second win of the season. Ryan Lacoe was second with Macy Litchauer third, Hunter Metzger fourth and Tyler Lindsey fifth. Leggio was sixth with Ron Bosga, Tony Parlanti and Cody Powell following.
Colin White grabbed the lead at the start of the JPA Masonry Wingless 600 Sprint main and would open up a huge lead on the field early on. Danny Buccafusca and Jacob Balliet waged an early war with Buccafusca taking over the runner-up spot and Balliet dropping to third. Past the midway point Buccafusca began to reel in White and would continue to do so but the event belonged to White and he cruised in for his second win of the season. Buccafusca finished in the runner-up spot. Jacob Balliet was third with JD Casazza and Damon Paul rounding out the top five. The second five found Chad Sandt, Mick D'Agostino, Joel Smith, Joseph Smith and Mack Brink completing the top ten.
Glenn Macomber grabbed the lead out of the starting blocks and raced to his sixth win of the season in the Wingless 270 Sprints. Alex Reinsmith was the runner-up with newcomer Nathanial Krotzer third. Kyle Ferrucci suffered problems early in the event and retired from the racer early on.
Cody Motto controlled the Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified encounter from the first lap on with Cole Stangle pulling out all of the stops to roll by him. The pair raced together like that until lap eleven when they momentarily got together and the hard-charging Joel Smith drove by both of them. Joel Smith led the remaining laps to claim the win over Cole Stangle, Anthony Recchio, Pat VanVarick and Cody Motto. The second five were John Mirabelli, John Comandini, Joel Price, John Bachetti Jr and Evan Civick. Seventeen cars took part in the Stage One Modified event with many new cars appearing in recent weeks.
PEARL JAMS:
Randy Smith kept pace with the speedway all night long as the track remained super smooth and racy all evening long. A couple of short intermission sessions were all that was needed to manicure the speedway surface for the competitors. Short track racing is close competition at its finest and the drivers were negotiating the Hamlin Speedway in two, three, four and occasional five wide fashion for much of the evening.
Heat racing action in the Stage One Modifieds found Mike Samony and Joel Smith claiming wins. 600 Sprint heat wins went to Colin White and Danny Buccafusca. Dale Kober was the quick man in claiming the heat race win for the Super Slingers. The 270 Sprint heat win went to Glenn Macomber. Junior Slingshot heats were claimed by Adam Buchel and Tyler Banks. Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint heats went to Joe Nemeth and Hunter Metzger. All Star Slingshot heats found Austin Silfee, Mike McLaughlin and Cole Stangle recording wins.
Birthday wishes are in order for Paul Richards Jr.
New drivers made their way to Hamlin on Saturday. The Stage One Modifieds had John Comandini returning to action along with John Bachetti Sr, Mike Jablonka and Andrew Vreeland as Vreeland recently purchased the Billy Dianella owned hot rod. Steven Gully returned to action in the 600 Sprints. Ron Bosga and Zach Farleigh made their first appearances in the Rookie 600 Sprints. Jack Hanna returned for his second outing at Hamlin.
Nathanial Krotzer was a new addition to the 270 Sprints. Damon Paul made his first start in sometime in the Slingshots with his own car.
"The Hurricane" Hunter Lapp picked up a ride in the Sheldon Swart racer and finished 16th in the race car. Lapp, who is now in full size racers at Accord, was second the previous night at Accord. John Gilroy Jr and Shawn Hoffman were also new additions to the Slingshots. Joshua Reeder made his first appearance in the Super Slingers.
Former champion racer at Hamlin, Paul Ennes and his son took in the races at the speedway and Paul indicated he would be very interested in returning to action in the future. Car owner Kim Gaughan made a surprise visit and explained his son "The Communicator" Matt Gaughan is working closely with ARCA racer Sean Corr. Gaughan explained he has purchased a 600 Sprint to race in the future at Hamlin.
Speedway Announcer Steve Pados offered a prayer for Hamlin Speedway friend Bob "Bubbers" Patrick who passed away this week. Patrick was the Uncle of longtime racer Billy Weaver.
Pados also interviewed JPA Masonry co-owner Jenn Amantea as she explained the many new projects the JPA Group is working on and of the many new exciting things that will be happening later this year as Jenn will be opening her Real Estate office in Mount Pocono later this year. Thank you to JPA Masonry for all of your assistance at the speedway.
Good luck from the Hamlin Speedway management and staff to all of the racers who are in competing in Speed Weeks. For the 12th consecutive season Ed and Steve Pados and their Gasoline Alley Group will be supporting the Reading Fairgrounds Racing Historical Society with some great support from many of their good friends in racing. Slingshots and Junior Slingshots will be racing on Monday and Tuesday this year at the fair.
