Posted by: | CommentsHamlin, PA - The Cream Rises To The Top In Sensational Hamlin Speedway Racing Action
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Hamlin Speedway got back on track last night and in traditional fashion Promoters Randy and Denise Smith hosted another sensational event on Saturday evening as a standing room only crowd on hand witnessed a seven feature event show that was completed at 10:39 PM. All cylinders were clicking to perfection as the fifth week of the 2016 produced another well executed spectacle of speed in the Pocono Mountains. With superb weather acting as the backdrop, the top stars at Hamlin duked it out on the superbly conditioned 1/5 mile clay cushioned raceway. The show proved to be a blessing as all of the preliminary events and the seven features were run off quickly and once again the cream rose to the top for the 122 racers who converged at the speedway to battle in their quest to find their way into the coveted Hamlin Victory Circle. The event was sponsored by S&S Speedways Indoor Go Karts located in Snydersville, Pennsylvania.
Capturing wins during the exciting evening of speed were "The Ambassador" Wes Hearn who continues to flourish at Hamlin as he scored his fifth win of the season in the Super Slinger finale while securing runner-up honors in the All Star Slingshot main event. "Magic Shoes" Mike McLaughlin had the hot ticket in the All Star Slingshot main as he captured his first win of the season. Empire State driving star Damon Paul was scary fast as he racked up his second win of the season in the exciting Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified main event. The G-Man" Grady Johnston showed his competitors the short way around Hamlin as he baselined his way to his third win of the season in the Wingless 600 Sprint finale. Paul Richards Jr was spectacular in racing to his third win of the season in the 270 Sprint headliner. Former Slingshot star Joe Howey was spot on as he gassed his way to his first career win at Hamlin in the Rookie 600 Sprint twenty lapper. The Junior Slingshot feature was captured by "The Hurricane" Hunter Lapp as he earned his first career win at Hamlin with a stellar performance over a tough field of competition and marking his eighth win of the season out on the Junior Slingshot circuit.
The "Stars of Tomorrow" from the Junior Slingshot division have been sensational all season long and Saturday was no exception as Hunter Lapp, fresh off of a Friday night win at Accord, wasted no time in seizing the lead at the start with Jared Silfee immediately applying the pressure. A few skirmishes along the way slowed the event down at times but when the racing was go Lapp was able to clock off some 13.903 times and Silfee chasing with 14.006 times. Yes, they were that close! Lapp was able to get through lapped traffic a bit quicker than Silfee but a caution on lap-18 for a disabled Adam Buchel, brought out the caution and ending Buchel's great night as he was running fourth at the time. A two lap shoot-out followed and Lapp was able to hit his marks and go on to capture his first career win at Hamlin. the early laps. Jared Silfee followed closely for runner-up status. Cole Stangle continued his fine season with a solid third place showing while Jake Mason and Ty Kelly completed the top five. "Lil Miss" Shelby McLaughlin headed up the second five after starting eleventh while Emily Fleming, the returning Evan Van Valkenburg, Nathen Marold and Colton Geary completed the top ten. A solid field of 18-cars took the initial green flag.
The stars of the over-35 Super Slinger division found crowd favorites Wes Hearn and Dale Kober at their best as the veteran wheel twisters put on a great show as they duked it out over twenty laps. Kober turned a fast time of 13.903 seconds to remain close and Hearn was consistent with some 13.860 times. Hearn would go on to capture his fifth consecutive win of the season while Kober nursed his smoking machine to a close runner-up finish. Steve Pirone ran an excellent race to secure third place and his best finish to date in the division. The returning Greg Zellman ran a great race to finish fourth while steady Jim Conroy completed the top five.
The Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint main found 23-cars going to the post for the start of the twenty lap main event. Joe Howey quickly grabbed the lead and found the baseline of the speedway much to his liking as he was followed by a hot running AJ Hobbs. Before a lap could be completed, a spin by Jacob Balliet netted a "tommy-tip-over" for Tony Parlanti. Once the drivers settled in, it became the Howey-Hobbs show as for a few laps before the smooth as silk "Wild Child" Geordan Marrero came into the picture. Marrero found his mark from the catbird seat as he watched the action in front of him for a few laps before trading second place with Hobbs for a few laps. A four car skirmish on lap-16 ended Hobbs bid and placed Marrero nose to tail with Howey for the remaining four laps. Howey would repel the bid by Marrero and go on to capture his first career win at Hamlin with Marrero a close second. 14th starting "The Mack Attack" Mack Brink would hustle through the field to nail down third with Noah Zielinski fourth and Scott Rupp completing the top five. The second five found 65 year-old Carmen Leggio Sr, Jakson Ring, JR Williams, Jacob Balliet and Tyler Galatro finishing up the top ten.
The Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified action was thrills a plenty from the word go as "The Beast" Chloe Andreas grabbed the lead at the start of the event and paced the field through nine laps while holding off a hard charging Damon Paul. Paul found the space he was looking for on lap ten and made the winning move and a quick running Steve Darling was able to slip past Andreas for the runner-up slot. Paul and Darling ran nose to tail and side by side for the remainder of the event with Paul capturing his second win of the season. Darling was the runner-up followed by Bill Dianella, Joel Smith and Chloe Andreas.
The 270 Sprint main for the winged warriors got off to a slow start as the returning Brittany Erlsten broke before the event went green. Paul Richards Jr was was fast and furious as he blasted out of the starting gate to lead the entire way with "Deuce" Glenn Macomber taking up the chase and finishing second. Kyle Ferrucci and Tyler Galatro finished behind Macomber.
Mike McLaughlin and Taylor Mills brought the star studded All Star Slingshot field to the starting line for the start of their 20-lap headliner. McLaughlin won the drag race at the start of the event and kept the momentum going as he tried to step away from the field. From third starting position came Wes Hearn and he began to pressure McLaughlin with moves from the top and the bottom of the raceway. A caution flag for a disabled Colin White on lap eight negated a Hearn pass for the lead and kept McLaughlin at the point. On the restart, Hearn would try time and time again but McLaughlin kept his line and raced to his first win of the season at Hamlin. Hearn would finish a strong second with "The Oley Jet" Brett Bieber racing to third place. Taylor Mills would finish fourth while Chris Kurtz completed the top five. The second five found Russell Benke III, Tyler Peet, Justin Mills from 16th, Tyler Pirone from 23rd, and Austin Silfee from 17th completing the top ten finishers. Twenty starters finished all of the twenty laps as the racing was just that close.
Grady Johnston blasted out front at the drop of the green flag in the 600 Sprint main and was quickly hounded by "The A-Team" Brandon Azzalina. The pair began a chess match of who is going where with birthday boy "Radioactive" Robbie Hocker joining the battle and a lap later "The Nickel Man" Joel Smith would move into the picture. As the laps clicked off, Johnston remained at the point and the battle for real estate escalated as the great talent showed their best stuff to one another as they jockeyed for position. Johnston would not be denied as he drove to a close win over Azzalina to secure his third win of the season at Hamlin. Hocker was third with Smith fourth and "The Rockaway Rocket" Danny Buccafusca completing the top five. "Bad" Chad Sandt headed up the talented second five with Johnny Smith, Sam Kravitsky from 17th, Zac Azzalina from 22nd and Mick D'Agostino completing the top ten.
PEARL JAMS:
A tip of the fedora to Denise and Randy Smith and crew for their hard work and dedication as Accuweather was calling for a major thunderstorm at 5 PM but they stood their ground and ran a sensational show and having everyone heading home before 11 PM.

Three heats were run for the All Star Slingshots with Tyler Peet, Wes Hearn and Taylor Mills emerging victorious. Adam Buchel, Hunter Lapp and Jared Silfee captured the heat wins in the Junior Slingshots. Brandon Azzalina, Grady Johnston and Colin White were the winners of the three Wingless 600 Sprint heats.
Time trials were run for the 270 Sprints and Paul Richards Jr stopped the clocks at 11.587 seconds to nip Brittany Erlsten. Joel Smith was the top timer in the Stage One Modifieds with a 12.968 second time to nip Damon Paul who timed at 13.065 seconds.
New and returning faces were abundant in the pit area as Brittany Erlsten made her first appearance since the start of the season in the 270 Sprints. Greg Zellman and Ron Jablonka were new faces in the Super Slingers. Quarter Midget star Evan Civick tried a Stage One Modified for size and Dylan Martin secured the Smith Fabrications rental ride for the evening. Evan Van Valkenburg and Cooper Schoenly made their first Hamlin starts while Gavin McClure, Tommy Stillo and Jack Clancy were back in action in the Junior Slingshots. Joe Nemeth Steve Van Valkenburg, Kevin Weiand and Cody Powell returned to action in the Rookie 600 Sprints. Reigning 600 Sprint Champion Colin White secured a Slingshot ride for the evening in the John Mirabelli racer. Hunter Metzger was back in action in the Slingshots. Robbie Hocker, Mike Van Pelt, Jermain Godshall, Matt Roselli and Louie Horvath were back in action in the 600 Sprints. some time.
Jeff Haduck had the misfortune of getting upside down in the Super Slingers. he was unhurt in the incident and the crew went to work and had Tess Horvath ready to go when the All Star Slingshot heats went to the grid. A great job by the crew. Jack Clancy was forced to the sidelines in the Junior Slingshot main when his brake caliper froze and started a fire in his racer. JJ Rice, John Velde, Brittany Erlsten and Louie Horvath encountered mechanical issues and were forced out early in their respective features.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Posted by: | CommentsAccord, NY- Rich Ricci Rockets Away To Second Accord Speedway Triumph
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
With a week that began with rain, rain and more rain, Thursday finally saw the sun break through and left Promoter Gary Palmer in a total catch-up capacity in order to have the Accord Speedway ready for the Friday night racing action. Palmer accomplished his mission by racetime and the seven division show went off without a hitch and produced some results that had some younger drivers getting wins and some veteran performers gaining some luster after suffering through some problems at the beginning of the season. The evening of speed was presented by the fine folks at the Healey Brothers Car and Truck Dealerships throughout the greater Hudeson Valley. www.healeybrothers.com The checkered flag bonus was posted by AFCO Fuel Company located in Kingston, New York.
Securing wins at the sixth event of the season were "The Chairman of the Board" Rich Ricci Jr as he blistered through the field early to become the first Modified driver in 2016 to earn his second triumph of the season. "Jammin" Jimmy Wells put on a strong bid from night starting place and over took Brandon McGill to go on and capture his fifth win of the season in the Healey Brothers Group Sportsman division finale. "The Conductor" Bobby Butler worked his magic off of the hub rail to earn his third win of the season in his Short Load Concrete sponsored Sprinter. Bob Sleight regained some momentum from his opening night win to wire the field in the Arkel Motors Pure Stock feature. Samantha Muller had an easy run to capture her third win of the season in the Want Ad Digest All Star Slingshots. "The Hurricane" Hunter Lapp enjoys his trips to victory lane and added his fifth win of the season in the WRWD Radio Junior Slingshot main event. Youngster Tighe Sherlock only led one lap of the Ruge's Performance Center Rookie Sportsman feature but it was the last lap and it counted the most as he earned his first career victory at Accord.
"The Ice Man" Dom Roselli blasted into the lead at the start of the United Pump & Tank Modified main with Jesse Marks in tow. Rich Ricci wasted no time to establish himself as a man with a plan as he vaulted past Marks on lap three and went to work to challenge Roselli. Trying various channels of the raceway as he followed Roselli, Ricci challenged low and then took his race to the top only to find the bottom of the raceway to be faster. Ricci got a great run on Roselli down the backstretch and drove his car to the baseline in turn three to pull even and slip past Roselli in turn four on lap ten to assume command of the lead. Once he out in front of the field, Ricci was textbook as he raced away to a huge lead only to have a caution come out on lap-25 for a disabled Ryan Wood. On the restart, Ricci powered away and earned his second win of the season with Roselli a strong second place. Jesse Marks, in his best run to date, was third with Mike Ricci and Richie Eurich completing the top five. The second five were Anthony Perrego, Danny Creeden, Danny Tyler, Ken Ferrier and Brad Rothaupt.
The Healey Brothers Group Sportsman main proved to be Another Jimmy Wells show. Connor Otten, improving with each week, led the first eight laps before yielding to Brandon McGill. McGill raced away to a good sized lead but Wells was coming on strong as he raced to the front from ninth starting spot. A caution on lap-17 for a disabled Nick Johnson closed up the ranks for the restart. As the racing resumed, McGill remained in the front but was now being hard-pressed by Wells. With eight laps to go, Wells powered by McGill with a climb the ladder pass off of turn two and Wells would race away to another win at the speedway. McGill did a great job as he finally was able to finish a race with a fine runner-up performance. Phil Goetchius, Rich Ricci III and Collin DuBois completed the top five. Tyler Johnston, Robbie Knipe, Corey Cormier, Dave Demorest and the returning RJ Smith completed the top ten finishers.
The Arkel Motors Pure Stock feature attraction saw Bob Sleight jump out front with a great start and then drove away from the field at will to claim his second win of the season at the speedway. Hard-driving Jimmy Sykes earned a hard-fought second place finish with Livy Johnson third, Steve Williams fourth and Ray Tarantino in fifth and doing so with a left front flat.
Bobby Butler likes to race to the top of the speedway by the Redi Rock fencing, but on this night he found the baseline of the speedway much to his liking as he led all fifteen laps of the Ruges Parts Center NEWS Sprint Car finale to earn his third win of the season. Larry Ricci put on a close race but a later scramble for position cost him some real estate and he settled for runner-up honors. Brody Adamsky was a steady third with former Quad Champion Eric Jennings in fourth, Fred Proctor, Jesse James Bartleson and Don Smith following.
Jimmy Kraus had everything going his way in the Ruge's Performance Center Rookie Sportsman main but as he got into turn three on the final lap and spun into the fencing damaging his race car. Tighe Sherlock inherited the lead and led the final lap to earn a place in the Accord Speedway history books with his first ever triumph. Jason Feinberg was the runner-up with Matt Shultz, Ryan McCartney and John Dewiit completing the top five.
Samantha Muller led all of the way to claim her third win of the season in the Want Ad Digest All Star Slingshot main event.
Hunter Lapp has been a rocket ship all season long and he slipped past early leader John Kendall to claim his fifth win of the season at Accord. Kendall was second with Ryan Auchmoody, Justin Sleight, Michael Corbin and Ashton Dewitt the final finishers.
GEMSTONES:
Heat races were run off quickly and Bobby Butler captured the lone heat for the sprinters. A TRAIL OF DIRT LEADS RIGHT TO OUR DOOR
ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Posted by: | CommentsAccord, NY- It is "Show Time" As Danny Tyler Drives To Convincing Win In Accord Speedway Action
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer were forced to roll the dice again and came up the big winners on Friday evening as they hosted a seven division race card at their superb quarter mile speedplant located in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. With thunderstorms forecast for the area and rain falling at times during the day, the Palmer Family forged ahead and the events were both pleasing to the good crowd that came to watch and to the drivers who were recipients of contingency posted by Jimmy Winchell and Jody Servo and the DeCicco Family for the Vinny D Memorial event. The evening of speed was sponsored by the good folks at Want Ad Digest while the Checkered Flag Bonus was sponsored by Backwoods Blends.
"Show Time" Danny Tyler rocked the house with an outstanding drive to capture his first win of the season in the United Pump and Tank Modified finale. "Jammin" Jimmy Wells made it four wins for the season as he captured the $1,555.00 Plus prize in the 55-lap Vinny D Memorial event. Livy Johnson made it two wins in a row as she captured the Arkel Motors Pure Stock encounter. "The Young Outlaw" Jesse James Bartleson raced to his second win of the season in the Ruges NEWS Sprint Car feature. Jason Feinberg was triumphant in the Ruges Rookie Feature event to claim his first ever win at the speedway. Sarah Bohlin raced to her first ever win at Accord in the Want AD Digest All Star Slingshots while "The Hurricane" Hunter Lapp earned his fourth win of the season in the WRWD Radio Junior Slingshots.
Lem Atkins led the first lap of the United Pump And Tank Modified feature before yielding to the high flying Robbie Green. Green led for four laps before being overtaken by "Iron" Mike Ricci. That is when the real fun began as Ricci was strong but was being pushed hard by Tyler. Ricci would lead until lap eleven when Tyler slipped past him on a restart but Tyler would give way to Ricci one lap later. Ricci was in command but Tyler wouldn't go away and soon was knocking on the door. On lap-19, Tyler made his move as he drove off of the baseline to pull even with Ricci and then cleared him to take over the lead for good. Ricci stayed close but the event belonged to Tyler, who had gotten off to a problematic start at the beginning of the season. Ricci, Brad Rothaupt, Anthony Perrego from 11th, Danny Creeden from the back of the pack after pitting, rounded out the top five. The second five found tight quarters as well with lots of good racing taking place with Bob McGannon 6th from a 22nd place start, Robbie Green, Jesse Marks, Richard Smith and Richie Eurich rounding out the top ten.
The Healey Brothers Group Sportsman event in honor of the late Vinny DeCicco was a 55-lap barnburner and from the word go and the returning "Twister" Tyler Boniface jumped out into the lead at the start and was quickly followed by Wells. Boniface gave way to Wells on lap seven but remained close as did Greg McCloskey and quick running newcomer Brad Weaver. The racing offered good ebb and flow as Boniface gained some momentum and regained the lead on lap-17. Boniface would lead until lap twenty when he expired the motor on the Ken's Logging and Land Clearing hot rod. Wells inherited the lead and even though he led the remaining laps of the event to claim the win and the big prize that went with it, the racing racing close until the end of the event. Greg McCloskey was second in the Vinny D Tribute racer. "The K-Man" Robbie Knipe was third in a solid run at the roses while Phil Goetchius was fourth from 13th and Chris Stevens was fifth from 11th. The second five found Brad Weaver, Phil Johnson, Cole Hentschel, Leo Fotopolous and Collin DuBois finishing inline.
Jason Feinberg began the Rookie Sportsman feature attraction from the outside pole but powered into the lead as the field hit the second turn of the first lap. Feinberg had some missteps along the way but found the needed speed and control when he needed it to race to a close win over Jim Kraus, when went to the back of the field once during the event. The birthday boy Tighe Sherlock was third with Bobby Flood, newcomer Kevin Stevens, Tanner Johnson and Ryan McCartney following.
Livy Johnson enjoyed her time in victory lane so much last she decided to it again. Much the same as she did one week ago, Johnson led from the opening bell and it was just the ticket she needed to wire the field and claim her second consecutive Arkel Motors Pure Stock win at the speedway. Ray Tarantino stayed close for second place honors while Tim Southard, Bob Palmer, Steve Williams, Harry Bachman, Chris Kanuk and Bob Sleight completed the field.
Sarah Bohlin, a former four cylinder racer at the speedway, raced to her first ever Want Ad Digest All Star Slingshot win at Accord and she did it in convincing fashion as she won by a straightaway after fifteen laps of racing. Newcomer Brett Putnam was the runner-up.
Hunter Lapp was spot on in the WRWD Radio Junior Slingshot encounter as he slipped past Michael Corbin late in the event to race to victory, his fourth win of the season at Accord. Corbin, who was coming off a big win on Sunday at Shellhamers Speedway, was the runner-up with John Kendall in third and Ashton Dewitt finishing fourth.
Jesse James Bartleson missed a week of racing last week but more than made up for it with a wire to wire run in the NEWS Sprints to claim his second win of the season. Don Smith Jr debuted a new sprinter and finished in the runner-up role with Fred Proctor third, Andrew Davis Fourth and Eric Jennings completing the top five.

HAMLIN SPEEDWAY NEWS
Posted by: | CommentsHamlin, PA - Silfee Brothers Share Victories In Sensational Hamlin Speedway Racing Action
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Hamlin Speedway and the Smith Family got back on track on Saturday evening with a spectacular racing show that saw seven tremendous feature events presented as the speedway got back on schedule after suffering two consecutive rainouts in the previous weeks. A few of the features went to the wire with the outcome decided in the final moments of the heated racing action. Promoter Randy Smith presented a meticulously groomed race track in place for the more than one hundred entries that would do battle during the evening. After all was said and done, the seven feature race card was completed at 10:15 PM in the evening and the great crowd on hand enjoyed another monumental night of short-track racing excitement, Hamlin style! S&S Speedways was the sponsor for the evening of speed.
The Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified Tour was the headline attraction on this evening and Bill Dianella scored a wire to wire triumph in the initial tour event for the series. Austin Silfee found himself in the winners circle with his first win of the season in a hard fought All Star Slingshot main event over a stellar roster of driving talent. The high flying "G-Man" Grady Johnston captured his second win of the season in the exciting 600 Sprint finale. Paul Richards Jr jumped into the lead and put his hot rod on cruise control to capture the twenty lap spectacular for the non-winged warriors of the 270 Sprints. Jared Silfee outlasted a fine group of young chargers to nail down another victory in the Junior Slingshot finale. Jakson Ring rang his own bell as he was magical grabbing up his first win of the season and the division in the Rookie 600 Sprint main event. "The Ambassador" Wes Hearn was on point as he wired the field in the Super Slinger headliner to win his fourth consecutive win in the division.
The Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified feature saw Bill
Dianella take the lead at the drop of the green flag and race to his second win of the season to kick off his pursuit of the tour title. The win didn't come easy as defending track champion Joel Smith placed plenty of pressure on Dianella's back bumper in brand new Wentz Auto Body Auto Care sponsored hot rod. Smith tried time and time again to unseat Dianella from the top spot but Dianella would hold on to score the series win over a determined Smith. Caitlin Henneforth made her first start of the season aboard the family Stage One chariot and was solid with a third place finish over 69 years young Will Casazza, who was aboard the Smith Fabrication Rental machine for the evening. Damon Paul completed the top five. Young Michael Samony headed up the second five and captured the hard charger award put up by Gasoline Alley Motorsports Media. Behind him were Cole Stangle, Chloe Andreas, Janell Geary and Mike Marold Jr.
The All Star Slingshot main found Chris Kurtz and Austin Silfee battling hard for the number one spot in turn one with Silfee out-hustling Kurtz out of turn two on the initial lap to secure the point. Just as quickly, Wes Hearn would become a player in the battle and one lap later Justin Mills would join the action to make it a four car challenge for the point. As the laps clicked off, Silfee held his line and his ground and would cross under Russ Furry's checkered flag to secure the victory at the speedway. Kurtz was the runner-up with Hearn third, Mills fourth and Brett Bieber working hard to complete the top five. Mike McLaughlin headed up the second five with Russell Benke III, Dale Kober, Alan Selemba and Anthony Recchio completing the top ten.
Chris Kurtz and Grady Johnston made up the front row for the Wingless 600 Sprint feature attraction and while the entry numbers were down on this particular evening, the excitement level of 600 racing was through the roof and the driving roster didn't let the fans down. Johnston grabbed the lead at the start and would lead trade slide jobs with Kurtz early on while the remainder of the field for the most part were doing the same. Real estate was at a premium with the lead cars having their choice of property. Johnston was able to fend off the challenges of Kurtz as Brandon Azzalina became a player from his fifth place starting point. The trio of racers broke into the clear from the rest of the pack and ran nose to tail until the checkered flag with Johnston winning a close decision over Kurtz and Azzalina. JD Casazza shook off his early season woes to claim a hard fought fourth place and Chad Sandt completed the top five. The second five was a tightly knit pack with Sam Kravitsky, Colin White, Danny Buccafusca, Ryan Neil and Joel Smith finishing in that order.
The Rookie 600 Sprint event found Tony Parlanti taking advantage of the high side of the raceway to vault into the lead but he spun in front of the pack to bring out a caution. On the restart, Jakson Ring inherited the lead and made it pay off as he held off all challenges from a hard charging Joe Howey to claim his first win at the speedway with Howey a close second. Scott Slater Jr raced from 13th position to finish third with Mikey Smith fourth and Aaron Casterlin nailing down fifth. The second raced close together throughout the event with Brett Altemose in sixth followed by Scott Slater Sr, Scott Rupp, Tyler Galatro and Mack Brink.
Newcomer to the speedway Bryan Hess seized the lead at the start of the Wingless 270 Sprint main and would lead through four laps until a spill by Kyle Ferrucci brought the race to a halt. On the restart, Paul Richards Jr appeared to be shot from a cannon as he pulled even and then sped past Hess to take command of the race. Richards became quicker as the race progressed turning some fast laps in the 12.280 second bracket to win the event with Bryan Hess impressing everyone with a runner-up finish in his first appearance. Former track regular Louden Reimert showed he didn't forget the fast way around the speedway as he recovered from an early spin to race back through the field for third place. Jenna Schostkewitz, Glenn Macomber, Paul Richards Sr, Tyler Galatro and newcomers Matt and Troy Hoffman completed the top ten.
Wes Hearn grabbed the lead at the start of the Super Slinger feature and fended off the early challenges of Roger Collins early on in the event. Hearn was in a league of his own as he flirted with his own track record through the mid-portion of the race and went on to claim his fourth consecutive win in the new season at Hamlin. Collins, making his first start of the new season, was solid with a runner-up showing and Dale Kober raced to third. Donny Hockman made his first start a good one as well with a fourth place run and John Gilroy made his first start a good one with a top five finish. Ryan Lacoe, Jim Conroy, Steve Pirone and newcomer Jan Gensits completed the field.
The Junior Slingshot event took center stage as Announcer Steve Pados went trackside to introduce the "stars of tomorrow" to the standing room only crowd on hand for the event. After a resounding send-off, Adam Buchel led for the first lap but gave way to the high flying Jared Silfee who took command of the event. On lap seven, fifth place starting Cole Stangle found a burst of speed and drove past Silfee to lead the event. Stangle led through lap twelve when he was trapped momentarily behind a slower car and Silfee was johnny on the spot and reclaimed the lead. As the laps clicked off, Silfee, Stangle and "Junior Excitement" JJ Rice stepped away from the field only to get back into slower traffic with Stangle becoming a victim from contact and bouncing into the inside apron in turn three. The restart found Silfee leading Rice until another restart was needed for a Colton Geary mishap. On the restart the exuberant Rice jumped the start and would cross the line first only to be penalized two spots for the infraction and handing the win to Silfee, his second of the season. Ty Kelly shook off his early season woes to claim a runner-up finish with Rice in third, John Kendall Fourth and Shelby McLaughlin fifth. The second five was headed up by Emily Fleming with Nathen Marold, James Costlow, Colton Geary and Cole Stangle following.
PEARL JAMS:
Despite all of the rain that has been hitting the area of late, the speedway was in excellent condition for the evening of speed and Randy Smith and crew kept at it throughout the evening and gave the great roster of driving talent a superb track to compete on.
The time trialed sessions found Jared Silfee lay down the fast time for the Junior Slingshots at 14.179 seconds just nipping Cole Stangle who clocked a 14.184 time. Time trials for the Rookie Wingless 600 Sprints found AJ Hobbs knocking off a quick time of 12.428 seconds with Mack Brink second with a 12.536 time.
Wes Hearn nailed a heat win the Super Slingers while Colin White and Chad Sandt claimed heat wins in the Wingless 600 Sprints. All Star Slingshot heats were claimed by Wes Hearn, Justin Mills and Austin Silfee. 270 Sprint heats went to Paul Richards Jr and Louden Reimert. The Stage One Modifieds utilized the dual heat format to establish the starting lineup and the first round saw Bill Dianella and Stephen Darling claiming wins while the second round winners were Damon Paul and Joel Smith.
The heat was oppressive throughout the day with the temperature hitting 90 degrees and it was still 76 degrees when the racing ended for the evening.
With this being the fourth entry into the record books for the 2016 season, many of the speedway newcomers are becoming familiar with finding the fast way around the speedway. Impressive showings of the veteran talent had them finding at least three grooves to work their magic from.
Making their first starts of the season on Saturday night included Caitlin Henneforth in the Stage One Modifieds while the veteran campaigner Will Casazza took his first start in the Smith Fabrications rental racer. Ryan Neiger was on hand with his sharp looking Hollywood Towing hot rod. A surprise entry came from former track champion "The 38 Special" Jared LaBagh, but LaBagh retired early from the event with problems under the bonnet. "Thrillin" Dylan Martin made his initial start in a brand new creation. Cody Powell made his initial start aboard a sharp looking number 17. Matt and Troy Hoffman and Bryan Hess were new additions to the 270 Sprint ranks. Part-time campaigner in 2016, Shawna Winters continues to have her problems with her race car as the car suffered from problems through out the evening. Roger Collins, Donny Hockman and Jen Gensits were new additions to the Super Slinger ranks. Regular Accord Speedway performer John Kendall made his first 2016 Hamlin start and did well in his initial outing. Kendall is sponsored by former Modified hot shoe, Billy Eggars.
Former Modified talent Everett Haubrich was taking in the show and thoroughly enjoyed the action on the speedway. "The Sandman" Troy Langendoerfer was in the house and informed Announcer Steve Pados he was in the process of readying his racer for a return to Hamlin shortly.
The Hamlin Hundred scheduled for July 2 will be raising money for Vet Stock that is headed up by Tom Ryan. VetStock coordinates and promotes fundraising efforts for Veteran organizations in Pike and Monroe Counties in the Northeast region of the state. All race teams, fans and sponsors are encouraged to assist in this annual event.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Posted by: | CommentsAccord, NY- Ken Ferrier Rim Rides The Cushion To Capture First Career Modified Win At Accord Speedway
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer rolled the dice and came up the big winners on Friday evening as they ushered in the Memorial Day weekend at their superb quarter mile speedplant located in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. An early afternoon thunderstorm threatened the racing activity but when the rain subsided Palmer and crew went to work and had a super race track for the great roster of talent that signed in for the races. Although the racing started late, the racing was great and the large crowd on hand was treated to some excellent side by side racing in all divisions. The evening of speed was sponsored by Williams Lumber with eight great stores in the greater Hudson Valley to supply the customer with all of their lumber and hardware needs. Their website is: www.williamslumber.com Williams Lumber is celebrating their 70th Anniversary this month. The Checkered Flag bonus was sponsored by Elmo's Speed Supplies.
Not one of the fans left the house disappointed as veteran Ken Ferrier, in his first full season in the Modifieds did everything correctly as he rim rode the cushion to capture his first career Modified win at Accord. "Jammin" Jimmy Wells laid claim to his third win in the Healey Brothers Group Sportsman finale with a late charge for the win. "The Conductor" Bobby Butler made it two in a row in the Ruges Performance Center NEWS Sprint Cars. Livy Johnson put together a masterful run to triumph in the Arkel Motors Pure Stock feature. Marty Kelly made it two wins in a row in the Want Ad Digest All Star Slingshots while "The Hurricane" Hunter Lapp was back in form to score his third win of the season in the WRWD Radio Junior Slingshots. "Kid Ice" Cole Hentschel captured the Ruges Parts Center Rookie Sportsman event and Rich Wood made a successful return to the speedway to capture the Empire Lightning Sprint main event.
Lem Atkins and Ken Ferrier brought the United Pump and Tank Modified division starting field to the line for the start of the 30-lap headliner for the Modified division. Quick starting Richie Eurich led the first lap but a couple of jingles slowed the action momentarily. When racing resumed, Ken Ferrier was hammer down as he powered by Eurich and tried to put as much space between he and Eurich as he could muster. Eurich remained close and soon he was fighting off the advances of "Prime Time" Scott Ferrier and the "Rhinebeck Rocket" Brad Rothaupt. Anthony Perrego, Danny Creeden and Joe Judge were making tracks to the front but no one worked as hard as "The Chairman of the Board" Rich Ricci as the 11-time track champion moved into the top ten by lap ten after starting in 21st position.
A seventh lap crash claimed Perrego and by the midway Creeden brought out a caution with a spin in turn two. As the laps clicked off, Ken Ferrier remained at the point but bobbled in turn two to give Eurich a shot at him but Ferrier righted the ship and quickly found his rhythm to keep the field at bay and drive home with a much coveted victory. "The Legend" Richie Eurich enjoyed a fine run in second, with Scott Ferrier third and Rich Ricci driving hard to claim fourth while Rothaupt rounded out the top five. The second five included Joe Judge, Jessie Marks, Danny Creeden, Ryan Wood and Danny Tyler.
Jake Granaker led the first lap of the Rookie sportsman event but the fast moving "Otisville Outlaw" Corey Cormier showed his hand and grabbed the lead and would lead until lap five when the caution was displayed. On the restart Cole Hentschel pulled even and secured the top spot in turn three of lap six. Once in front, Hentschel did his homework as he was quick to the finish line to score a great win at the speedway. Cormier was the runner-up with "The Flash" Bobby Flood steady in third, Jason Feinberg was fourth after starting 12th and AJ Williams completed the top five. "The Junior Rock" Matt Shultz was sixth in his first appearance with Tighe Sherlock, John Dewitt, Sarah Smith and Jim Kraus rounding out the top ten.
The NEWS Sprint Car finale found Bobby Butler leading from start to finish as he used every inch of the speedway to drive away to victory, his second win in succession. Newcomer Fred Proctor made it interesting with a strong second place run in his first appearance and former many time Quad Champion at Accord, Eric Jennings took his first ever ride in a full size hot rod to finish third.
Former track champion Clint Roehrs led sixteen laps to mark the return of the Empire Lightning Sprints to Accord in quite some time but it wasn't enough as a restart on lap-17 brought Rich Wood to the forefront and the Connecticut hot shoe was quick to seize the lead and race to victory in the 20-lap event. Roehrs was second with Jon Moore third, Lou Torres fourth and Jerry Sehn in fifth. Rick Stone, Kathy Bellen, Jesse Pruchnick, Don Bellen and Jason Shedd rounded out the top ten.
Samantha Muller found the line she was seeking to lead the All Star Slingshot event for the first few laps only to give way to Marty Kelly who used the top of the raceway to blast into the lead. Newcomer Matt Ferris was able to slip past Muller and take up the chase after Kelly and although he got close, it would be Marty Kelly picking up his second consecutive win at Accord. Ferris, Muller and Sarah Bohlin finished behind Kelly.
Hunter Lapp was back in form in the Junior Slingshots as he drove to a close victory over Michael Corbin who has been getting closer to a win with each passing week. Jake Mason, Ashton Dewitt and John Kendall followed.
The Healey Brothers Group Sportsman event was a barnburner from the word go as Conner Otten finally worked out the bugs in his race car to lead through the first ten laps. Trouble with a slower car and continued heat from Nick Plumstead found Otten getting trapped and giving way to Plumstead. Plumstead would lead through lap-18 when ninth starting Jimmy Wells found the speed to pull even and take over the lead while the Plumstead machine broke while in second place on lap-20. On the restart, Wells would lead the final five laps to the finish and earning his third win of the young season. Greg McCloskey was the runner-up with Chris Stevens steady in third, the birthday boy Tyler Johnston in fourth and Nick Johnson rounding out the top five. The second five were Ralph Ronk, Rich Ricci III, Robbie Knipe, Zach Mead and Justin Brewster.
Livy Johnson led wire to wire in the Arkel Motors Pure Stock finale to capture her first win of the 2016 racing season. The win didn't come easy as Steve Williams applied the pressure from all angles of the racing real estate but couldn't find combination that would have vaulted him into the lead. Johnson was the winner with Williams second, Tim Southard third, Bob Palmer Fourth and Ray Tarantino rounding out the top five. Bob Sleight, Jimmy Sykes, Harry Bachman, Gary Ronk and Steve Kanuk completed the top ten.
GEMSTONES:
The hotly contested racing action was completed at 11:10 PM. Promoter Gary Palmer and crew worked overtime to bring the track around after the thunderstorm but the speedway offered many speed channels for the drivers to work their magic with.
Heat wins went to Richie Eurich, Ken Ferrier and Robbie Green in the Modified division while Brandon McGill, Nick Johnson and Nick Plumstead captured the Sportsman heats. Rookie heats went to Corey Cormier and Jimmy Kraus. Pure Stock heats were claimed by Bob Palmer and Livy Johnson. Samantha Muller and Jake Mason captured the Slingshot heats. Empire Lightning Sprints were claimed by Clint Roehrs and Justin Phillips.

It was great to have the Empire Lightning Sprints back at the speedway and quite possibly we will see them again before the end of the season.
Marty Kelly again assisted Steve Pados in the tower when his racing duties were completed.
Former Miss Accord Speedway Loralyn Brinster paid a surprise visit to the speedway. Loralyn is currently an Implantation Coordinator for a Specialty Pharmacy workflow platform and has done extensive traveling in the past year and when she has the time is a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the Vernon Township (NJ) FD

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS
Posted by: | CommentsAccord, NY- Creeden Sizzles In Mod Win While Butler, Cormier, Mason And Kelly Score First Career Victories at Accord Speedway
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
The crazy weather pattern surrounding the Catskill Mountain area and the Tri State region for the past three weeks finally settled down and offered superb weather under friendly skies last evening. With it, the Accord Speedway was able to resume their 2016 racing season. The three consecutive rainouts did not dim the spirits of the loyal Accord fans as the nice crowd on hand was very appreciative of the exciting racing action they were treated to in the blockbuster events throughout the evening. The evening of speed was sponsored by Powder Tech Powdercoating from Duanesburg, New York. Their website is: www.powdertechinc.com
The checkered flag bonus was sponsored by Backwoods Blends.
When all was said and done, The "DC Express" Danny Creeden captured the gold in the United Pump & Tank Modifieds, "Jammin" Jimmy Wells in the Healey Brothers Group Sportsman, "The Intimidator" Ray Tarantino in the Arkel Motors Pure Stocks, "The Conductor" Bobby Butler in the Ruge's Performance NEWS Sprint Cars, Marty Kelly in the Want Ad Digest All Star Slingshots, "The Cold Spring Kid" Jake Mason in the WRWD Radio Junior Slingshots, "The Otisville Outlaw" Corey Cormier claiming the win in the Escape RV Rookie Sportsman and George Zeininger capturing another win in the Emmanuel's Marketplace 4-Cylinder Enduro finale at the speedway.
Twenty Four hot-shoes brought the United Pump & Tank Modified field down for the start of the 30-lap main event. At the drop of the green it was Brad Rothaupt going topside and grabbing the lead coming out of turn two on the initial lap. Rothaupt would lead the event through lap six when on a restart he was out-powered by a strong running "Double J" Joe Judge. From fifth starting position Danny Creeden came calling and began to reel in both Judge and Rothaupt. Creeden was able to slip his Shackelton Auto Parts sponsored hot rod past Rothaupt before the midway point of the race and set sail for Judge.
Judge would lead until lap twenty when Creeden, who was working the baseline of the speedway to perfection, made his move as he pulled even with Judge in turn one and blasted by him coming out of turn two. Once in front, Creeden was able to keep his racer ahead of the field to claim his first win of the season at Accord. Coming on strong in the latter stages of the event was Anthony Perrego and he slipped past Judge at the end for runner-up honors. Judge enjoyed a solid third place run while Rothaupt and Danny Tyler completed the top five. Randy Green headed up the second five in his first appearance of the season while Ed Dachenhausen, Willy Auchmoody, Dom Roselli Sr and Chad Loilodice rounded out the top ten.
In the Healey Brothers Group Sportsman action, Nick Johnson hustled into the lead took the lead at the drop of the green flag with Conner Otten and Chris Stevens in hot pursuit. Johnson had the hot hand as he began to drive away from the field through the midway stretch of the event. Restarts slowed the pace on occasion and it kept erasing the lead Johnson enjoyed in each run under green. On lap-21, Jimmy Wells found the seam he needed and drove past Johnson to lead the final laps and claim his second win of the season. Johnson was second in an excellent showing with Chris Stevens, Greg McCloskey and Nick Plumstead rounding out the top five. Rich Ricci III, Collin DuBois, Ralph Ronk, Phil Goetchius and Justin Brewster completed the top ten.
Jason Feinberg led through the first nine laps of the inaugural Escape RV Rookie Sportsman main event. Feinberg spun while leading and on the restart it was Corey Cormier inheriting the lead. Cormier led the final laps to claim his first ever win at the Accord speedplant. Jim Kraus was second with Bobby Flood, Ryan McCartney and Keith Johannessen completing the top five. Mike DuBois from Above All Automotive added $200.00 to the initial purse for the Rookies in a fine gesture of sportsmanship. Mike has moved his business to 84 New Paltz Road in Highland, New York.
Livy Johnson led the six first laps of the Arkel Motors Pure Stock feature until a caution slowed the pace. On the restart, Johnson's car was hit from behind and the action caused a scramble on the front straightaway and knocked Johnson from the event. Ray Tarantino inherited the lead and drove away to victory with hard-riding Gary Ronk in second, Bob Palmer third, Bob Sleight fourth and Tim Southard fifth. Shawn Maloney, Harry Bachman and Tom Hausman completed the field of cars running at the end.
The Ruge's Performance NEWS Sprint Cars found Brody Adamsky leading the first lap and after that it was all Bobby Butler as he top-sided his Short Load Concrete sponsored racer to within inches of the Redi Rock barriers on his way to his first career win at Accord. Don Smith Jr was a strong runner-up with Don Smith Sr, Jesse James Bartleson, Brody Adamsky, Heidi Hedin and Larry Ricci completing the field.
Vermont's Marty Kelly led all of the way in driving his Domino Pizza Wagon to his first ever career win at Accord in the Want Ad Digest Outlaw Slingshot feature. Hard riding Jim Pollard was second with newcomers Dan Malley, Bryce Cherko and Spencer Cherko completing the top five.
Jake Mason was victorious in the WRWD Radio Junior Slingshot event and he did it the fast way in holding two-time winner Hunter Lapp at bay for the entire distance. For Mason it was his first ever triumph at Accord. Lapp finished second with Michael Corbin, John Kendall, Ryan Auchmoody and Ashton DeWitt completing the field. With the win Mason will add $50.00 to his bank account courtesy of bonus dollars put up by David Torchio of Torch Performance.
George Zeininger took a Friday night drive in the Emmanuel's Marketplace Enduro event. It wasn't easy though as Dave Donovan traded the lead back and forth with Zeininger until mechanical problems placed him on the sidelines. Zeininger led the final 27-laps to claim yet another victory at the speedway. Matt Curry and Ryan Brockner were second and third.
Gemstones:
Modified heats were captured by Ed Dachenhausen, Brad Rothaupt and Danny Creeden while Sportsman heat wins were claimed by Nick Johnson and Collin DuBois. Bobby Butler claimed the NEWS Sprint heat win. Rookie Sportsman heats went to Jason Feinberg and Corey Cormier. Pure Stock heats were captured by Mike DuBois Jr and Livy Johnson. Samantha Muller captured the All Star Slingshot heat event while Hunter Lapp was victorious in the preliminary for the Junior Slingshots.
New cars and drivers galore were on hand for the evening and included Tim Southard and Shawn Maloney in the Pure Stocks, Bobby Butler, Heidi Hedin and Larry Ricci in the NEWS Sprints. Spencer Cherko, Bryce Cherko and Jim Pollard were new additions to the Slingshots and all were sporting Dunkin Donuts sponsorship. Justin Sleight was slated to compete in the Junior Slingshots but problems prevented him from taking a lap. Randy Green, Dom Roselli Jr, Kurt Hundeland, Richard Smith, Lenny Helmich and Willy Auchmoody were new entries for the Modifieds. Justin Brewster, Mike DuBois Sr, Ralph Ronk and Keith Coulter made their first starts in the Sportsman.
Rookie Sportsman for the inaugural event included Jim Kraus, Ryan McCartney, Sarah Smith, Jake Grannacker, Bobby Flood, Corey Cormier and Keith Johannessen. McCartney, Flood, Cormier and Grannacker are former Slingshot stars at the speedway with Flood being a former Champion.
Former Legends Champion at Accord, "The Flying Dutchman" Richie Van Orden was taking in the races and informed announcer Steve Pados he was putting the finishing touches on a new Sportsman car for the speedway. Justin Brewster was another of the former Slingshot stars who took the step into the Sportsman ranks. Brewster borrowed the Ryan Wood hot rod for the evening and did an admirable job considering it was his first ever ride in a full size racer.
Two former Hamlin Speedway competitors were in the Sprint car field. Butler is a former Champion at Hamlin and Heidi Hedin competed in the 600 Sprints. "The Big Unit" Randy Johnston was to drive the second Lapp racer but problems shut him down early in hot laps. Jordan Lawrence escaped injury when his car got upside down in front of the grandstands.
"The Mighty Man from Mertztown" Barry White was on hand to watch his son in law Danny Creeden race to victory.
Butch Distal and Dylan Curso took in the races last evening and Tim Adams put Curso to work in the Lucas Oil Products victory lane in handing out the driver awards.
Marty Kelly not only captured a win at the speedway last evening but once again lent his assistance in the tower announcing races and he did his always great job.

HAMLIN SPEEDWAY NEWS

By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Hamlin, PA May 7th ... The 2016 racing season at the Hamlin Speedway continues to rock on into the new season even though a less than perfect Saturday evening greeted the racing drivers and fans. The unpredictable Spring weather once again tried to slip a "Mickey" into the scheduled events but the Smith Family persevered and offered a fabulous racing show in the Poconos Mountains. The speedway welcomed in 119 entries for an exciting night of racing activity. Promoter Randy Smith had the 1/5th mile clay cushioned facility in impeccable condition and all divisions put on a great show for the great crowd was on hand to witness the exciting side by side and nose to tail racing action. The sizzling racing action went of without a hitch and was completed at 10:50 PM. The evening of speed was sponsored by S&S Speedways indoor go karts located in Snydersville, Pennsylvania.
When the heart stopping racing action was completed, "Midge" Chris Kurtz led only four laps of the Briggs & Stratton Mid-Atlantic Gold Tour event but they were the last four as he captured the 30-lap finale. Garden Stater Cole Stangle raced to his second straight win of the season in the Junior Slingshots feature attraction. "The G-Man" Grady Johnston used all of the race track when he needed it to drive to victory in the Wingless 600 Sprint headliner. Mike Kalman raced to his first ever win at Hamlin in the 270 Winged Sprint main event. "The Beast" Chloe Andreas was just that as she led all laps to capture her first ever win in the Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified feature event. "The Ambassador" Wes Hearn raced to his third consecutive win in the Super Slingers headliner. Unheralded Nate Brinker made his first Hamlin appearance a notable one as he was was on his a-game and captured his first ever Hamlin win in the Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint headliner. The Smith Family continues to provide an unparalleled promotion for small car division racing and the 2016 racing season has been chock filled with over the top racing excitement.
The Junior Slingshots rolled out onto the raceway for their scheduled 20-lap feature excursion and a mad scramble ensued at the start. On the restart it was Jared Silfee flexing his muscles as blasted out front and would lead until after the midway point. Cole Stangle was applying the pressure hard as sought an inside line to make his move past Silfee. Silfee gave him too much room off of turn two on lap-12 and Stangle pulled even and slipped into the lead on lap-12. Stangle led the remainder of the event to score his second straight win at Hamlin early on. Silfee, who won on opening night, was second in a great run with "The Little Machinist" Nathen Marold turning in an excellent run for third place. "Little Miss" Shelby McLaughlin raced from 15th to nail down fourth place and "Junior Excitement" JJ Rice completed the top five. The second five included Emily Fleming, LJ Walbert, Colton Geary, John Velde and Michael Corbin.
The 270 Sprint main event found "The Deuce" Glenn Macomber setting a torrid pace. Macomber handled lots of pressure from Paul Richards Jr but Richards would spin and go to the rear on lap-16. Macomber appeared headed to victory with two to go when his racer let him down and He was forced from the battle. Mike Kalman inherited the lead and would drive to victory with Richards recovering and finishing in the runner-up role. Tyler Galatro and Kyle Ferrucci would follow the two leaders across the line.
The Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint main saw Scott Slater lead the first three laps of the finale. Storming to the front on lap-4, Nate Brinker drove by Slater and opened up a huge advantage over the field. A twist a turn a wrinkle and a jingle or two slowed the action in the mid stages of the event but Brinker was up to the task in his Torie Tile sponsored hot rod as he kept the field a safe distance behind him. The final four laps saw a strong effort from last week's feature winner Mikey Smith but it would be Nate Brinker hoisting the checkered flag on this evening. Smith was the runner-up with Jakson Ring turning in a strong performance in his Gary Lee Kia hot rod. Scott Slater Jr and Sr completed the top five. Brett Altemose, Joe Howey, Dylan Martin, Tony Parlanti and JR Williams completed the top ten.
The Super Slinger feature found invader Mike Toth grabbing the lead at the start and Toth would lead until lap-6 when Wes Hearn would drive by him. Once in front, Hearn distanced himself from the field while the action behind him was still a three car battle royal between Dale Kober, Mike Toth and Ryan Lacoe. Hearn would race to his third straight win with Kober putting on a killer rally at the finish to land in the runner-up role. Toth was third in a great effort while Steve Svanda rallied at the end to finish fourth with Lacoe in fifth. John Mirabelli, Jim Conroy, Steve Pirone and Jeff Haduck completed the field.
The Wingless 600 Sprint main was top-notch from the drop of the green flag as "The Rockaway Rocket" Danny Buccafusca found the bottom of the raceway to his liking and he blasted out in front of the highly competitive field. From sixth starting position came "The G-Man" Grady Johnston as used every inch of the raceway to find the proverbial sweet spot and inch his way through the field. Johnston attacked Buccafusca from all angles and reached to to the top of the cushion on lap-11 to slip past Buccafusca for the lead. Once in front Johnston encountered slower traffic and it became a game of wits to keep his race car in front as the close roster of drivers inched their way closer to the front. It was not to be as Johnston captured the win with Buccafusca a strong second, Johnny Smith third, Colin White fourth and Joel Smith in fifth. The rest of the top ten included Chad Sandt, Brandon Azzalina, Ryan Quackenbush, Sam Kravitsky and James Morris. The event was so competitive the fans were gathered talking about it long after the racing was completed.
The Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified feature found Chloe Andreas at the point for the start of the 20 lap event and she made the most of it as she led all 20-laps for her first win in the Stage One Modifieds but the win was far from easy. Mike Marold put pressure on Andreas from the start and was joined later on by Damon Paul, who seemed to have the fastest car on the racetrack. Paul ripped off some 12.8 second laps to close quickly on the leaders but this night was for the ladies as Andreas scored the win with Marold in second and Paul third. Steve Darling was fourth while Bill Dianella rounded out the top five. Janell Geary, Pat Van Varick, Michael Samony, Will Casazza and Jack Van Varick completed the field.
Thirty one cars attempted to secure a spot in the All Star Slingshot main attraction but only the top 27 made the grade through heats and provisional's to qualify for the 30-lap finale. Henry Anderson jumped into the lead at the drop of Russ Furry's green flag and he had his Mike Griffin State Farm Insurance sponsored chariot at the top of the game. Early challenger Wes Hearn was a in a semi skirmish and slipped back a bit while Tyler Peet, Russell Benke and Chris Kurtz duked it out behind Anderson. Peet used much of the racetrack to find a way past Anderson but Anderson was on a mission in his return to Hamlin Speedway racing.
The racing action was close and it was going to get closer as the laps clicked off. On lap-26 as Anderson and Peet came out of turn four, Peet got into Anderson and turned him around leaving both leaders assigned to the back of the bus for the restart. Chris Kurtz would inherit the lead and would go on to lead the final four laps to secure the victory and the $500.00 that went along with it. Wes Hearn rallied hard to nail down the runner-up slot with Russell Benke in third, Tyler Pirone fourth and Brett Bieber in for fifth. The second five included Justin Mills, Austin Silfee, Mike McLaughlin, Anthony Raisner and Dale Kober.
Pearl Jams:
Kudos go out to Randy Smith and his staff for preparing an excellent racing surface for the night of racing battles. With all of the rain that fell during the past week it was nothing short of a miracle the racing could take place at all. The show was able to move along swiftly even with Smith and company taking some breaks to constantly manicure the racing surface and gibe all of the competitors an equal track to race on.
Wes Hearn was fast timer for the Super Slingers with a 14.187 second time. The 600 Sprints had Joel Smith with a hot hand and a 11.853 clocking.
Heat race wins were captured by Hunter Lapp, Jake Mason and Emily Fleming in the Junior Slingshots. Dylan Martin, Brett Altemose and Nate Brinker captured the three Wingless Rookie 600 Sprint heats. Glenn Macomber nailed down a win in the 270 Sprint heats. Janell Geary and Chloe Andreas captured heat wins for the Stage One Modifieds. The dual heat format was part of the norm for the All Star Slingshot Tour events and capturing wins included Henry Anderson, Wes Hearn, Chris Kurtz, Russell Benke III, Brett Bieber, Anthony Raisner and Justin Mills.
New faces continue to emerge at Hamlin as new competitors included LJ Walbert, John Velde and Matthew Robidoux for the Junior Slingshot racers. Mike Toth, Steve Svanda and Jeff Haduck were new Super Slinger competitors. Nate Brinker and Joe Nemeth were new Rookie 600 Sprint racers. Pat and Jack Van Varick were new Stage One entries. Anthony Raisner, Don Schmidt, Tom Arntz, Joe Toth, Henry Anderson, Natasha Henn and Aiden Svanda were new additions to the All Star Slingshots.
Long distance expert Charlie Lawrence broke early and withdrew for the evening. Jacob Severn had problems with his won race car so hopped aboard the Aaron Casterlin machine for the evening. Gavin McClure and Ty Kelly had mechanical woes all evening in the Juniors and AJ Hobbs scratched from his 600 event as well. Cole Stangle and Aaron Henneforth encountered problems with their Stage One Modifieds.
Shannon Smith and Simon Egan were visiting the speedway for the first time in 2016. The happy couple resides in the "Tarheel" State of North Carolina.
The speedway management and staff send get well wishes to Speedway Videographer Barry Boyd who is under the weather at this time.
Youthful racer Cody Quagliato spent some time in the tower with Announcer Steve Pados. While still competing with his go kart at Snydersville, Cody will be aboard a Tom Arntz racer later in the season in the Junior Slingshot division.
