Sheldon Haudenschild wins Arctic Cat All Star finale, Chad Kemenah claims fifth career Arctic Cat All Star championship

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (October 22, 2016) - For the fifth time in his career and for the first time since 2005, Alvada, Ohio’s Chad Kemenah is an Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions titlist, earning his fate by finishing eighth during the championship finale at Atomic Speedway on Saturday, October 22. It is a first-ever title for team owner Rob Hunter.

Kemenah, pilot of the Rob Hunter-owned/Seneca Energy Corp/DKW Transport/JRC Transportation/Bonnell’s Rod Shop/ No. 10H entry, started 13th on the main event grid and gently worked his way into a top-ten finishing position; just one position ahead of championship contender and defending titlist Dale Blaney at the final checkers. Blaney, who fell short of a seventh championship by a mere 20 markers, finished second in the final standings, followed by Sheldon Haudenschild, Cap Henry and Kraig Kinser.

“I hope my car owner’s smile is as big as mine right now,” Chad Kemenah said. “I can’t thank Rob Hunter and his wife enough for giving my brother (Brian Kemenah) and I an opportunity with this race team. We didn’t have the season we wanted last year as far as consistency goes, but we were pretty consistent this year. We really take pride in our level of consistency. Sometimes we second guess ourselves, but we just really needed to focus on us and our results and not worry about where others finish. That’s what it takes to win a championship.”

Chad Kemenah ended his 2016 Arctic Cat All Star championship campaign with one victory on the season, occurring at the Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway in Bedford, Pennsylvania. The 2016 Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket champion also earned 33 top-ten finishes in 43 main event starts, 24 of which were inside the top-five.

“We definitely wanted to win more, of course. But to have the amount of top-five finishes that we have, no matter where we raced or who we raced against, says a lot about this race team. Sometimes point racing isn’t fun. Things were getting a little stressful here the last month or so. I’m not sure my car owner would admit that, but it is true. I don’t want this to be the first one for Rob Hunter, so hopefully we can repeat.”

Chad Kemenah won the war, but Sheldon Haudenschild won the battle on Saturday night at Atomic Speedway; scoring $10,000 during the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions season finale over a competitive field of 49 entries. Haudenschild started second on the main event grid and raced in a podium position during the entire 35-lap main event. The Wooster, Ohio, native took command for the first time on lap 32; surviving accidental contact with race leader Cole Duncan to inherit the top spot over Hunter Schuerenberg and sixth row starter Danny Lasoski. Duncan, the main event pole sitter who led every lap of the feature program until that point, would not return.

Haudenschild, the winningest driver with the Arctic Cat All Stars in 2016, drove ahead to score his ninth victory of season and 15th of his career, keeping, Schuerenberg, Danny Lasoski, Pennsylvania invader Brent Marks, and Spencer Bayston at bay.

“I felt bad about that contact with Cole Duncan. I definitely didn’t intend for that to happen. We were both racing really hard for position and ran out of race track,” Sheldon Haudenschild said. “This has been a really fun season. I can’t thank my team enough for their hard work and effort this year. Every time I get in my car, I know what I am going to get and I know what to expect. This win is pretty special. We’ll take this and move ahead.”

The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will celebrate the 2016 season with the annual awards banquet, scheduled for Friday evening, December 9, at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. In conjunction with the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) trade show, the awards banquet will be conducted in rooms 231-233 of the Indiana Convention Center. The evening will begin with cocktails at 6:00 pm, followed by dinner at 7, with the awards ceremony to follow. Additional news and information will be sent via email in the near future.

Rico Abreu takes non-stop Sprintacular! Dale Blaney cuts Kemenah’s point lead to 18

ROSSBURG, Ohio (October 8, 2016) - St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu secured his fourth Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions victory of the 2016 season on Saturday night at Eldora Speedway; leading all 30 circuits of the non-stop, Sprintacular main event to officially solidify his position on top of the feature podium. For Abreu, the Eldora Speedway victory was the second of his career at The Big E during Arctic Cat All Star competition, holding back a pair of Arctic Cat All Star championship point contenders, Dale Blaney and Chad Kemenah, for a cool $5,000. Blaney would cross under the final checkers just behind Abreu, followed by Chad Kemenah, a hard-charging Cap Henry, and Cole Duncan.

“Hats off to Eldora Speedway and the entire staff. There are a lot of cars here between all three of the divisions (118). That is definitely not easy,” Rico Abreu explained. “I especially want to thank all of you fans for sticking this out through the cold weather here tonight. I’m not real used to this. I’m used to California weather. This is so much fun, though. I enjoy getting to come here and being a part of everything at Eldora Speedway.”

Rico Abreu started third on the feature grid, taking command before the completion of lap one over Dale Baney and Sheldon Haudenschild. The California native wasted no time and began to stretch his advantage right from the drop of the green flag; extending his lead to nearly three seconds by lap three. Dale Blaney eventually settled into second, followed by Chad Kemenah and Sheldon Haudenschild.

Abreu, Blaney and Kemenah raced-on unshuffled, hitting their first obstacle in the form of traffic with just ten laps in the books. Rubber started to come into play by the mid-point of the 30-lap program, allowing the racing surface to narrow which ultimately shrunk Abreu’s racing lane and advantage. Abreu’s two to three second lead shrunk to less than one second over Blaney and Kemenah by lap 25, with all three eventually racing single file and nose to tail on a thin lane of rubbered-up racing surface. Abreu held on, earning a sixth career victory against the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, equaling that of Kerry Madsen and Kasey Kahne on the all-time win list.

“I knew Dale (Blaney) was getting close. I probably shouldn’t have, but I looked up at the big screen a few times and saw he was behind me,” Rico Abreu explained. “You just have to stay patient with the lapped cars. It was taking rubber and the racing line kept getting narrower and narrower. I was able to get around the lapped cars that I needed to. By that time, the lapped cars that were ahead of me weren’t passing anybody. I just had to make sure to hit my marks and stay patient.”

Dale Blaney’s runner-up finish allowed the “Low Rider” to snip away at Chad Kemenah’s Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions point advantage. Kemenah, a former four-time Arctic Cat All Star point champion, will lead Dale Blaney into the Atomic Speedway season finale with an 18-point margin. The Alvada, Ohio, native led Blaney by 20 points entering the Sprintacular at Eldora Speedway.

“Overall, it was a really good run for us tonight,” Dale Blaney explained. “Second is tough to take here. I mean, Rico runs really good here so I can’t take that away from him or us. We really started to get single file there, especially in three and four, which made things really difficult in terms of passing. I’m happy with second. Things are going to be interesting at Atomic.”

The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will wrap up the 2016 season with a two-day visit to the Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday, October 21-22. All Star championship weekend will feature a full, Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions program during the two-day visit, complete with qualifying time trials and heat races on Friday, followed by consolations, dash and a $20,000-to-win main event on Saturday.

As an added bonus, a “Race of Champions” will be contested during the Friday night portion of the All Star championship weekend at Atomic Speedway. Sprint car track champions, as well as series champions, from coast to coast are invited to participate, all battling for a $2,000 top prize. Ian Madsen scores Four Crown Nationals victory for first ever Eldora Speedway win,
Chad Kemenah reclaims Arctic Cat All Star championship point lead over Dale Blaney

ROSSBURG, Ohio (September 24, 2016) - Sometimes, being in the right place at the right time can make all of the difference. For Ian Madsen, that statement proved to be worth $5,000.

For the first time in his career, Ian Madsen is a main event winner at the world-famous Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio; scoring a victory against the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions during the 35th Annual Four Crown Nationals.

Climbing ahead from third on the feature grid, Madsen took command officially on lap 28, utilizing Rico Abreu’s misfortune while racing in the runner-up position. The victory was Madsen’s third against the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions during the course of his career, but his first in 2016. Chad Kemenah finished second, followed by Randy Hannagan, Kraig Kinser and Brady Bacon.

“It’s really awesome to get a win at this place,” Ian Madsen explained. “I’ve always dreamed of winning a race at Eldora Speedway. It’s really cool to be able to stand up here on this victory lane stage. I can’t thank my team enough for their hard work. Kyle, Mark, Jackson, and all of the guys back home, Brett and Matt; they all do so much. My crew chief, Kyle Ripper, gave me a great car tonight. We’ve been knocking on the door to get a big win, so this is awesome.”

A pair of California natives, Rico Abreu and Randy Hannagan, led the feature starters to green on Saturday night at Eldora Speedway. Hannagan earned the early advantage, leading Chad Kemenah and Rico Abreu by the flagstand for the first time. The “Hurricane” kept control for the first six circuits, eventually feeling some pressure from the duo racing directly behind him. A pair of cautions on lap seven would halt competition for the first time during the 30-lap main event, erasing Hannagan’s advantage at the front of the field. The cautions proved to be beneficial for second place running Rico Abreu; using the momentum change to drive by Hannagan when green flag action returned to officially lead the seventh circuit.

Abreu drove on to dominate the next 20 circuits, outrunning Randy Hannagan, Chad Kemenah and eventually Ian Madsen through two additional cautions and periods of intense traffic. Unfortunately, Abreu’s dominating performance would soon come to a halt; spinning all alone between turns three and four on lap 28, eventually adding Lee Jacobs to the pileup. Madsen, who battled his way forward after starting on the inside of row two, inherited command. His lucky strike would soon pay off, keeping Chad Kemenah and Randy Hannagan at bay for the last three circuits to secure $5,000 and a first-ever trip to the Eldora Speedway victory lane stage.

“I don’t think we had anything for Rico (Abreu),” Madsen explained. “We got a lucky break there, so we had to make the most of it.”

With his runner-up finish, Chad Kemenah officially reclaims the top spot in the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions title chase, now holding a 20-point cushion over Dale Blaney, and a 70-point cushion over Sheldon Haudenschild, heading into the next Arctic Cat All Star program. Blaney and Haudenschild each suffered from problems during the Four Crown Nationals main event; Blaney made contact with the turn four retaining wall, while Haudenschild suffered from engine failure.

“You have to finish every race. My crew always gives me a great opportunity to do that,” Chad Kemenah explained. “We just keep plugging away and we keep earning podiums. Ian (Madsen) had a really good car tonight. I actually felt like I was getting better and better as the race went on. We were able to move around quite a bit on the race track. We were good enough to run second to him and I’ll take it.”

With only two weeks to wait, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will return to The Big E on Saturday evening, October 8, for the Eldora Speedway season finale. Dubbed the Sprintacular, the sprint car triple-header will feature the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, NRA ‘360’ Sprint Invaders and the BOSS non-wing sprint cars, each conducting a full program including preliminary competition and main events. The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will battle for a $5,000 top prize, as well as full points, during the annual Sprintacular; the fourth and final Eldora Speedway appearance for the Arctic Cat All Stars in 2016.

ATTICA, Ohio (September 3, 2016) - After nearly giving it all away, spinning in front of the entire feature field after leading the first eight circuits at Attica Raceway Park, Wooster, Ohio’s Sheldon Haudenschild would recover; rigorously working back to the top spot around a pair of Ohio veterans, ultimately scoring the 40-lap, Inaugural Dirt Classic Ohio victory worth $10,000. The win was Haudenschild’s seventh of the 2016 season with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, tying for the series lead with defending Arctic Cat All Star champion Dale Blaney.

2016 Attica Raceway Park track champion Byron Reed finished second during the Dirt Classic Ohio main event, followed by Blaney, Pennsylvania invader Brent Marks, and Craig Mintz.

“The big thing was keeping myself in the race during the first half,” Haudenschild explained. “After that spin, I just needed to regroup, keep my tires from spinning, and really focus on hitting my marks. I’m just really proud of my guys and what they do for this race team. We work as hard as we can to win races. That is what keeps us on the road. We had a blast tonight. Hopefully we can move to Wayne County tomorrow and create a similar outcome.”

Originally scheduled to start on the outside of row two, Sheldon Haudenschild was moved to the outside pole position, the result of a false start by Bryon Reed during the initial green flag. The pilot of the Southern Pacific Farms/Finzer Farms/Haudenschild Racing/No. 93 jumped to the early advantage using the top line of the speedway, leading lap one over Dale Blaney and Tim Shaffer.

For the first eight circuits, Haudenschild seemed invincible; leaning against Attica’s curb at the top of the speedway, now maintaining an advantage over Dale Blaney and Byron Reed, who snuck by Shaffer with just three laps in the books. On his way to completing lap nine, disaster nearly struck Sheldon Haudenschild; spinning in front of the field while attempting to negotiate traffic. Luckily for Haudenschild, he was able to maintain control of the car while staying in the throttle, eventually completing a 360-degree spin to keep his spot in the running order without bringing out a caution. Dale Blaney would inherit the top spot, followed by Byron Reed and now Haudenschild.

Despite the near-total loss, Haudenschild quickly worked his way back up the running order, driving back by Dale Blaney on the low side during a battle in traffic with 15 laps in the books to take over the runner-up position. After working beyond Blaney, Haudenschild set his focus back on the point position, returning his momentum to the very topside of the speedway. By lap 20, Haudenschild raced to the back bumper of Byron Reed, eventually driving by the eight-time Attica Raceway Park track champion with a textbook slide job between turns three and four. At that point, the race was Haudenschild’s to lose; opening to a near-straightaway advantage even during traffic. The second generation racer went on to score his 13th career Arctic Cat All Star victory

“I just pinned the throttle and kept it running!” Sheldon Haudenschild said regarding his spin while leading. “I knew at this track, even if you spin and keep your momentum, you have a good shot to recover and still get it done. The track was just awesome, ya know. Hats off to the track prep team. Everything this car makes goes right back into the crew and car. We need to win races like this to keep us going.”

Byron Reed raced inside the top-five during the entire 40-lap main event, leading seven laps before finishing second to Haudenschild at the final checkers.

“With the track having a curb, we knew going in that Sheldon (Haudenschild) was going to be good,” Byron Reed explained. “He’s really good on a racetrack like this. At least we were able to beat Blaney.”

Dale Blaney’s third place finish was just enough to put the “Low Rider” back on top in the current Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions title chase. The Hartford, Ohio, native now holds a mere six point advantage in the championship chase over Chad Kemenah entering round two of Labor Day weekend on Sunday evening.

Labor Day weekend will continue for the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions on Sunday evening, September 4, at the Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio. The Pete Jacobs Memorial, honoring the late Wayne County Speedway founder and promoter who passed away in 1970, will award a $10,000 top prize on Sunday night at “Orrville’s Historic Oval,” the second of two, $10,000 top prizes for the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions during the holiday weekend. The September 4 program will be the fourth and final Wayne County Speedway appearance for the Arctic Cat All Stars in 2016.

Wayne County Speedway will open Pete Jacobs Memorial pit gates at 3:00 pm on Sunday afternoon, September 4. A mandatory drivers meeting will be conducted at 5:30 pm, followed by hot laps at 6:10. FINDLAY, OH (August 28, 2016) - Despite Mother Nature’s attempt to end the evening just after qualifying time trials, Wooster, Ohio’s Sheldon Haudenschild cruised on to score his sixth Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions victory of the 2016 season on Sunday night at Millstream Speedway, leading all 30 circuits over fellow championship contenders Chad Kemenah and Dale Blaney. Haudenschild, pilot of the Southern Pacific Farms/Finzer Farms/Haudenschild Racing/No. 93, survived six cautions, including a fuel stop, to clinch his spot in victory lane, increasing his career win total to 12 with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.

“This is huge, you know,” Haudenschild said. “We’ve struggled with qualifying here in the past. We never could get ourselves into a dash, so qualifying for the dash tonight was really important to us. That little bit of rain we got earlier in the night made the track pretty fast. It was definitely important to start up front. I can’t thank my guys enough for what they do. It wouldn’t be possible without all of them, as well as everyone else who is on the car.”

Sheldon Haudenschild jumped ahead during the initial start, taking advantage of his pole position to control the opening lap over a pair of fellow Ohio natives, Chad Kemenah and Dale Blaney. An early caution on lap five, as well as a pair of cautions on lap 10 and lap 13, may have stalled feature competition, but they never disturbed the top three in the running order. Haudenschild mastered his preferred line at the top of the speedway, which proved to be the dominant line around the Findlay, Ohio, half-mile. Chad Kemenah attempted to make the middle of the speedway work during segments of the main event, while Dale Blaney utilized the bottom groove; each proving to be unsuccessful against Haudenschild.

A late caution on lap 27 would force the feature field to refuel, setting up a four lap dash for Haudenschild, Kemenah, and Blaney. On the restart, Kemenah and Blaney each attempted to overtake Haudenschild from underneath, but a clear track and clean air proved to be too powerful for Haudenschild, driving away nearly unchallenged to score the $5,000 victory. The win, equaling his 15th top-five finish of the season, allowed the second generation racer to close in on the championship chase by another two markers, cutting Kemenah’s advantage to 68 points. Dale Blaney currently sits second, just eight points behind Kemenah.

“The track was just a little too fast to get by Sheldon (Haudenschild),” Kemenah explained. “The cushion was the fastest way around the race track and he’s good on the cushion.”

“I think we have a shot to catch Chad (Kemenah) and Dale (Blaney) in the championship,” Haudenschild said. “We just have to concentrate on winning these races. That’s what we come here to do. If things go our way, I think we’ll be OK.”

A pair of $10,000-to-win programs will headline Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions competition during Labor Day weekend, beginning with the Dirt Classic Ohio at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, on Saturday night, September 3. The event was originally scheduled for early August, but later moved and reassigned as an Arctic Cat All Star program.

In addition to $10,000, the highly anticipated, highly raved, inaugural Dirt Classic Ohio program will also award a golden ticket; an automatic A-main starting position in the $20,000-to-win/$1,000-to-start Dirt Classic finale at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, September 24.

The second $10,000-to-win showcase during Labor Day Weekend will be contested at the Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, on Sunday night, September 4. BROWNSTOWN, IN (August 27, 2016) - “Downtown” Danny Holtgraver nearly dominated Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions competition on Saturday night at the Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Indiana, leading all 40 circuits to capture his third Arctic Cat All Star victory of the 2016 season, as well as the first Arctic Cat All Star victory at Brownstown Speedway since June of 1999. Holtgraver, pilot of Pete Grove’s Premier Motorsports/Premier Pallets/Bonnell’s Rod Shop/DKW Transport/No. 70 entry, started from the outside-pole position at the quarter-mile bullring, eventually holding off charges by Dale Blaney, Randy Hannagan, and Sheldon Haudenschild to score the $5,000 top prize.

“Man, I can’t thank my guys enough for all that they do for me,” Danny Holtgraver said in victory lane. “Pete Grove gave me a great opportunity this year. I can’t thank him enough for that. He allows me to come out here and do what I love to do each and every weekend. Cody Jacobs, my dad, Mike, Al; they all bust their butts and I truly appreciate it. We needed another one of these. The last few weeks haven’t been too great for us for a number of reasons. We’ll celebrate this one and get ready to try again tomorrow.”

Holtgraver wasted no time getting to the front of the feature field, taking control after the initial green flag to lead lap one over Kraig Kinser and Arctic Cat All Star point leader Chad Kemenah. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native relied on Brownstown Speedway’s heavy curb for momentum, racing on top undistracted by a near-two second margin until traffic came into play, easing the pace for the first time on lap six.

Even as traffic intensified, Holtgraver kept his composure; using momentum to keep a lengthy advantage while negotiating lapped cars. Meanwhile, Chad Kemenah, Dale Blaney, and Sheldon Haudenschild created a three-car battle for positions two through four, a battle that would last for nearly 15 circuits. After multiple slide jobs and crossovers, Blaney eventually settled into second, followed by Sheldon Haudenschild and Chad Kemenah.

A caution on lap 18, and a late red flag incident on lap 35, proved to be no distraction for Danny Holtgraver, ultimately racing on to park himself in Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions victory lane for the 12th time in his career. Dale Blaney, aboard his familiar GoMuddy.com/Big Game Treestands/CH Motorsports/No. 1, finished second after starting fifth, followed by Randy Hannagan, who climbed from the outside of row five to earn his podium performance. The “Hurricane” made his first appearance in a podium position on lap 33, driving under the familiar No. 93 of Sheldon Haudenschild in traffic.

“I just felt really comfortable from the start. Cody and the guys had this thing exactly where it needed to be,” Holtgraver said. “The top was where I felt the strongest. It started to get pretty tricky; not a lot left toward the end of the race. You kinda had to tip-toe your way around there and make sure you didn’t get sucked over the edge. Traffic was tough at times, but we were able to get through it pretty well without too many hiccups. I’m just really happy to be back in this position. We’ll try to double-up on the weekend tomorrow night at Millstream.”

The 2016 Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions title chase continues to make headlines, as only 70 points separate the top three competitors in the current championship standings. Using his runner-up finish at Brownstown Speedway, Dale Blaney has chipped away Chad Kemenah’s advantage to just six points with only nine events remaining in 2016. Sheldon Haudenschild finds himself third in the championship standings, just 70 points out of the top spot. Cap Henry and Danny Holtgraver round-out the top-five, respectively.

The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will officially end the month of August with a visit to the Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio, on Sunday night, August 28. It will be the second and final Millstream appearance of the 2016 season for “America’s Series,” the 55th overall appearance by the traveling circuit since their first visit in 1982. Dale Blaney is the most recent Arctic Cat All Star winner at the Findlay half-mile, holding back Chad Kemenah and Kyle Larson during Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket on June 19. The victory, the fourth of Blaney’s Arctic Cat All Star career at Millstream Speedway, was worth $5,000.

All Star Enterprises, LLC, wholly owned by Tony Stewart, d/b/a the All Star Circuit of Champions, is a winged sprint car series. The All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series is one of the oldest traveling 410 sprint car organizations and is a staple of grassroots, open-wheel racing. Formed in 1970 by Bud Miller, the series has largely been considered the first 'outlaw' Sprint Car organization of the modern era. After a 10 year stint as owner of the All Stars, Miller passed control of the series to Bert Emick in 1980; a reign that would continue through 2002.
