Last corner pass secures $10,000 for Dave Blaney during Open Wheel Championships
CHILLICOTHE, OH (August 27, 2017) - Utilizing a last corner pass to secure his place in Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions victory lane, the “Buckeye Bullet” Dave Blaney scored the Open Wheel Championships finale victory on Saturday night at the Atomic (OH) Speedway high banks, driving under race leader, Chad Kemenah, at the exit of turn four for a $10,000 payday.
Blaney, pilot of the familiar Mohawk Northeast/Motter Equipment/Beltline Body Shop/No. 71M, started from outside-pole position and raced within the top-three the entire distance. After swapping positions with Lee Jacobs to re-secure second after a lap 18 caution, Blaney’s focus was solely on Kemenah, soon chasing down the defending Arctic Cat All Star champion in traffic, ultimately setting up his last corner pass for the five-figure pay check. Kemenah led the first 29 and 3/4 circuits before losing the top spot to Blaney.
“I think his car was definitely better,” Dave Blaney said about Chad Kemenah. “He got hung up in traffic and I was able to get a lucky break. I feel bad for Chad. I’ve lost some races that way and it really sucks. Regardless, I’m really excited for my guys. We don’t get to race a whole lot, so to come out here and win is big for us; this is a big night.”

Despite starting from the front row, Blaney’s trip to victory lane was not conducted flawlessly. The Ohio native, who now calls North Carolina home, battled early with Lee Jacobs, actually losing the runner-up position to the 1881 Racing entry on lap 10 just as the leaders entered traffic for the first time. A pair of cautions on lap 18 and lap 19 bundled the field back together allowing Blaney to return the favor and slip back by Jacobs during the lap 18 restart.
By lap 26, Blaney worked his way to the rear bumper of Kemenah, closing a near-straightaway advantage. The pair raced nose-to-tail for the final five circuits, all before Blaney was able to poke his nose and drive under the Hunter Racing/Seneca Energy/DKW Transport/No. 10H.
“This is hard to do,” Blaney said. “These guys are good and they are racing from top to bottom. To end up standing here is pretty surprising and pretty awesome.”
Kicking off a holiday weekend that will feature back-to-back $10,000-to-win programs in the Buckeye State, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will return to competition on Saturday evening, September 2, at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio. Complete with a unique format that will utilize two rounds of heat race competition, the annual Dirt Classic Ohio will headline action at the Attica high banks during Labor Day weekend, highlighted with a 40-lap main event will award a $10,000 top prize; the peak of a purse exceeding $32,000.
In addition to the Dirt Classic Ohio main event, the evening schedule will also include the Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket make-up feature that was initially scheduled for June 16. The starting lineup is already set, Travis Philo and Cale Conley on the front row, and will award a $5,000 top prize.

All Star Enterprises, LLC, wholly owned by Tony Stewart, d/b/a the All Star Circuit of Champions, is a winged sprint car series. The All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series is one of the oldest traveling 410 sprint car organizations and is a staple of grassroots, open-wheel racing. Formed in 1970 by Bud Miller, the series has largely been considered the first 'outlaw' Sprint Car organization of the modern era. Rico Abreu takes Open Wheel Championships preliminary at Atomic Speedway
Open Wheel Championships continues Saturday with 10K-to-win finale
CHILLICOTHE, OH (August 25, 2017) - Withstanding persistent pressure from his summer landlord, “Smoke” Tony Stewart, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu earned his place in Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions victory lane on Friday evening at Atomic Speedway, capturing the Open Wheel Championships preliminary victory worth $5,000 over a field of 46 entries. The Arctic Cat All Star triumph was the seventh of Abreu’s impressive career; his first-ever at the Atomic Speedway high banks.
“I just gotta thank my guys for getting this car right where it needed to be tonight,” Abreu explained, pilot of the Abreu Vineyards/Priority Aviation/Alpinestars/Rhino Wipes/No. 24. “Our car has been really close the last few weeks. We put ourselves in really good position tonight in relation to how the track was. I felt like we were really good right away. My guys have been clocking in a lot of work. It all pays off when you are standing up here with the trophy.”

On a surface narrowed by its abrasiveness, Abreu led all but one circuit of the 30-lap main event, swapping positions with Tony Stewart just after the pair reached traffic for the first time. Stewart worked by Abreu to officially lead lap 11, but after a side-by-side battle during the entire following circuit, it was Abreu who would lead lap 12. From that point forward, it was all Abreu at the front of the field, chased to the final checkers by Stewart, Cole Duncan, Lee Jacobs and Joey Saldana.
“I caught him sleeping as traffic started to get him backed up,” Tony Stewart said. “I saw where he went, so I went in a different spot and got a run on him. I just wasn’t fast enough to hold him off. He got through traffic tonight a lot better than I did. He was definitely the better car and driver.”
“He lets me stay at his house in the summertime, so I had to be pretty nice to him there,” Abreu laughed. “You have to give Tony a lot of respect. He is just as hungry as any of us out here racing.”
“I think he got himself a little too high when he got around me. That allowed me to get back below him,” Abreu continued. “I was able to get through the center a little bit better than him. I think it would have been a really good race even if it didn’t take rubber. Towards the end, I was starting to worry about my tires. At that point, all you can do is race and pray.”
Open Wheel Championships competition will continue on Saturday evening, August 26, with a second, full Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions program, this time awarding $10,000 to the main event winner; the final Arctic Cat All Star appearance at the Chillicothe high banks in 2017.
Atomic Speedway officials will open pit gates by 1:00pm. The Arctic Cat All Star drivers meeting will take shape at 5:20pm, with hot laps to follow at 6:00pm, sharp. Those seeking additional news and notes should visit Atomic Speedway live on the Web at www.atomicspeedway.net.

Greg Hodnett takes Salute to the Troops victory at Susquehanna Speedway
YORK HAVEN, PA (August 20, 2017) - Snapping an Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions winless streak that dates back to June 7, 2015, Spring Grove, Pennsylvania’s Greg Hodnett made his return to Arctic Cat All Star victory lane by conquering the Salute to the Troops program at Susquehanna Speedway in York Haven, Pennsylvania. Hodnett, who led all 30 circuits on Sunday, nearly swept the entire evening program by earning victories during his respective heat race and dash before claiming his $5,000 payday. Lucas Wolfe chased Hodnett to the final checkers, followed by Lance Dewease, Anthony Macri and Brock Zearfoss.
“I’m really excited to be in this position,” Greg Hodnett said in victory lane. “I can’t thank Mike Heffner enough for what he does for me and this team. Most picture the ‘Month of Money’ as leading up to Knoxville, but for us here in Pennsylvania, the ‘Month of Money’ basically starts now. We have a lot of big paying shows coming up. This is a great way to head into the next few weeks.”
Greg Hodnett and Anthony Macri led the starting grid to green on Sunday night at Susquehanna Speedway. Hodnett earned the initial advantage and controlled the first two circuits before yellow flags waved for the first time on lap three. Anthony Macri raced second as caution flags waved, followed by Lucas Wolfe and Brock Zearfoss.
Green flag conditions resumed with Hodnett returning to his post at the front of the field. Wolfe drove by Macri during the lap three restart to advance into second, still followed by Zearfoss and eventually Lance Dewease.
Hodnett led the field to traffic for the first time on lap eight which narrowed his near-two second advantage that was built just before the front-runners found the back of the pack. Wolfe used traffic to his benefit and started to pick away at Hodnett’s lead while battling lapped cars. Despite Wolfe’s ability drive through traffic, Hodnett’s ability was just as impressive; keeping two to three lapped cars between himself and Wolfe as he navigated the bottom edge of the speedway.
As the lap counter continued to count up, Hodnett’s lead continued to grow, expanding to just over two seconds by the midpoint of the 30-lap feature program, eventually reaching four seconds just before caution flags reappeared on lap 26.
The main event’s second and final caution set-up a five-lap dash to the finish with Greg Hodnett still in control, followed by Lucas Wolfe, Anthony Macri and Lance Dewease. When green flag conditions waved, Hodnett returned to the bottom and wasted to time returning to a lengthy command, ultimately stretching the gap to nearly two seconds by the time the final checkers flew. Lucas Wolfe chased Hodnett to the flagstand, followed by Lance Dewease, Anthony Macri and Brock Zearfoss.
“It wasn’t the best place to race to gain a lot of straightaway speed, but it got us where we are,” Greg Hodnett said. “Traffic got kind of tricky there in some spots. There were a lot of guys racing pretty hard in front of us; chopping each other and driving all over the track. I’m just thankful to be up here.”
With the four-race, Central Pennsylvania swing officially in the books, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will switch gears once again and prepare for an Atomic Speedway doubleheader on Friday and Saturday, August 25-26. The 3rd Annual Open Wheel Championship will headline action at the Chillicothe 1/4-mile, complete with two, full programs awarding a total winner’s share equaling $15,000 over the course of two days.

Glenndon Forsythe earns $5,000 in the Pigeon Hills
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA (August 19, 2017) - York, Pennsylvania’s Glenndon Forsythe held off some of the best in the business on Saturday night in the Pigeon Hills, ultimately scoring a first-ever Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions victory in front of a packed house at the “Fabulous” Lincoln Speedway. Moving into the top spot for the first time on lap two, Forsythe led 29 of the 30 circuits to score his $5,000 payday, crossing by the flagstand for the final time with Chad Kemenah and Cory Haas in tow.
“I couldn’t be happier for this team right now,” Glenndon Forsythe said in victory lane. “Tonight was Dynatech Controls Night and they had their company picnic out in the parking lot before the races. Mark, the owner of the company, was here tonight and it was his first time so I’m glad to get this done for him.”
A pair of York natives, Cory Haas and Glenndon Forsythe, led the field to green on Saturday night at the “Fabulous” Lincoln Speedway. Haas got the early jump, soon overtaken by Forsythe as the pair raced through turns one and two on the following lap. Despite a pair of cautions during the first six circuits, Forsythe was able to maintain his command and stretch his advantage to nearly two seconds during certain segments of the first 15 laps.
Forsythe reached traffic for the first time just before the halfway point of the 30-lap main event, continuing to ring the topside of the speedway with Haas following less than one second behind. Danny Dietrich soon entered the picture after charging forward from ninth on the grid. The nearby Gettysburg native moved into third on lap 16, just before caution flags reappeared on lap 17 for Arctic Cat All Star Rookie of the Year contender, Tyler Esh. Esh, who started fourth, raced his way into third by lap seven, but during his later battle with Dietrich in traffic, lost the handle and ended his night upside-down in turn one. Esh walked away unharmed.
Green flag conditions returned to the speedway once again with Forsythe immediately returning to a commanding lead, extending his advantage to nearly two seconds by lap 24 over Haas and “Double-D” Danny Dietrich. Traffic came back into play on lap 25 setting up a three-car battle between Forsythe, Haas and Dietrich. As lapped traffic intensified, so did the battle for the lead. Forsythe continued to pound the cushion leaving the bottom open for Haas and Dietrich, soon joined by defending Arctic Cat All Star champion, Chad Kemenah.
Just as Forsythe took the white flag, caution flags appeared once again, this time setting up a green-white-checkered restart attempt. The first attempt failed as Danny Dietrich spun between turns one and two. The second green-white-checkered restart was a success for Glenndon Forsythe, holding back a final corner lunge by Chad Kemenah and Cory Haas.
“I looked up at the scoreboard at one point and saw that the ‘48’ and the ‘39’ were up there. The ‘39’ was up there the whole time, so I knew he wasn’t a slouch,” Forsythe explained. “To be honest, I was happy to see that yellow come out with just a few laps remaining. Traffic was getting intense and I was starting to fall out of the seat. But this is Lincoln; if you get going well, you’re going to hit traffic. That yellow gave me the break that I needed.”
A visit to Susquehanna Speedway near York Haven on Sunday, August 20, will conclude the Arctic Cat All Star swing through The Keystone State. Honoring the late Justin Snyder, Tony Stewart’s All Stars will take part in the Salute to the Troops program during their visit to the 4/10-mile oval, awarding a $5,000 top prize, as well as $500 to the evening’s fastest qualifier on behalf of Emory Transmissions, and $200 to the evening’s main event hard charger on behalf of Brown & Miller Racing Solutions.

Danny Dietrich beats the All Stars at Williams Grove Speedway for Jack Gunn Memorial title
MECHANICSBURG, PA (August 18, 2017) - Taking advantage of Rico Abreu’s misfortune, “Double-D” Danny Dietrich earned his way back to Williams Grove Speedway victory lane against the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions, this time claiming the 35th Annual Jack Gunn Memorial worth $5,000. After starting third on the feature grid, the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, native led the final 12 laps of the 30-lap program to claim his second Arctic Cat All Star victory of the 2017 season; his ninth career appearance in victory lane with “America’s Series.”
Sammy Swindell, aboard the Mark Coldren-owned No. 07, finished second on Friday night at “The Grove,” followed by Greg Hodnett, Lance Dewease and Lucas Wolfe.
“I can’t say enough about these guys who are standing behind me,” Danny Dietrich said. “They work hard and it really shows. We’re starting to get this season really turned around. We have two more races this weekend with Lincoln tomorrow and Susquehanna on Sunday. Those are tracks we are really comfortable with. Our goal is to get one or two more wins this weekend. That is the plan, anyhow.”
Lucas Wolfe and Rico Abreu led the 25 starters to green on Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway. Abreu earned the early jump and raced to the front of the running order ahead of Lucas Wolfe and Danny Dietrich. Those three battled in the same order for the first nine circuits, reaching the tail end of the field for the first time with just seven laps in the books.
Despite Abreu’s advantage stretching to nearly two seconds in clean air, heavy traffic eventually negated all of his earned momentum allowing Wolfe and Dietrich to close the gap in a hurry. By lap ten, Dietrich, who mastered the bottom groove of the speedway to navigate through traffic, was able to make a bid for second over Wolfe and succeeded, ultimately moving his focus ahead to the Abreu Vineyards/Priority Aviation/No. 24.
Fortunately for Dietrich, his hunt for the front flourished easier than predicted, as Abreu became victim of a flat left rear tire, turning the St. Helena, California, native completely around near the exit of turn two. Dietrich was able to avoid Abreu’s spin and inherit the lead with 18 circuits in the books.
After a failed attempt to resume action on the lap 19 restart, and open red conditions taking over the speedway as the result of a spectator injury in the infield, Dietrich led the field back to green now with Sammy Swindell and Greg Hodnett in tow. The trio raced in clean air until traffic reappeared on lap 27, allowing Swindell to close in on Dietrich for one final lunge. “Double-D” proved to be too strong in traffic, eventually separating himself from Swindell with two lapped cars just before the final checkers. The final margin of victory was nearly two seconds.
“We love when guys like Rico [Abreu] and Tony [Stewart] come to race with us in Central PA. It is good for the sport and it is good for the tracks in this area,” Dietrich explained, pilot of the Gary Kauffman Racing/Weikert’s Livestock/Sandoe’s Fruit Market/Pace Performance/Gsell’s Whitetails/Hickory Run Orchards/Carlisle Auto Salvage/CATS Used Truck Parts/Drop Of Ink Tattoo/Bowman Block & Head Repair/Sweeney Cars/Self Made/No. 48. “I knew Rico was going to be good, but we were really good around the bottom. Lucky for me, I have a lot of experience at this place and know what I have to do to get around it. This isn’t my kind of track surface tonight, but we were pretty fast all night. We’ll take this and move forward.”
Arctic Cat All Star action will move to the “Fabulous” Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown on Saturday, August 19. Much like Grandview, Lincoln Speedway will host the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions on one occasion in 2017. The last time the Tony Stewart-owned organization invaded the Pigeon Hills, it was “Double-D” Danny Dietrich scoring the victory, beating Alan Krimes and Lucas Wolfe to the final checkers.

BECHTESLVILLE, PA (August 17, 2017) – In front of a jam-packed NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series crowd, Freddie Rahmer of Salfordville, PA became a third-generation winner at Grandview Speedway collecting the victory in the 3rd Annual Thunder Cup presented by Levan Machine and Truck Equipment.
“My Dad won here, My Grandfather won here, I can’t begin to tell you how much it means to win here,” an elated Freddie Rahmer said in victory lane.
Mark Smith of Sunbury, PA and Ryan Smith of Kunkletown, PA led the 26 car field to the green flag. Mark Smith pulled to the lead quickly with Ryan Smith close in tow, and Freddie Rahmer powering past Swindell into the third spot.
The leaders hit heavy lapped traffic on the sixth circuit around the one-third mile – with Mark Smith weaving in and out of cars, extending his lead over the pack. Smith’s sizable lead was short lived as traffic closed the gap between the top runners giving Ryan Smith the opportunity to pounce on Mark Smith.
A Lap 13 red flag flew for Hunter Mackison, who got upside down in turn 2, clearing the boiler plate and landing off the race track. The incident that retired Mackison and Brandon Rahmer.
Mark Smith charged back to the top spot when the race resumed, while Ryan Smith fought hard for the second spot with Freddie Rahmer. Rahmer dove to the inside of the race track crossing under Ryan Smith, but Smith battled back on the inside.
The yellow flag flew on lap 21 for Brandon Spithaler. During the yellow flag, the right rear tire of leader, Mark Smith’s machine went flat sending the No. M1 pit side. Fortunately for Smith, a caution on the restart allowed him to change the tire and rejoin the field.
Ryan Smith inherited the lead and charged to the top side of turn one on the restart, maintaining control on the top side of the one-third-mile speedway. Smith held the top spot for four circuits before Rahmer was able to shoot toward the inside of the race track completing the pass on lap 25.
It was all Rahmer for the balance of the 35-lap feature event, maintaining a lead of five-car-lengths when the checkered flag flew.
Ryan Smith would settle for the second position, Spring Grove, PA’s Greg Hodnett in the third spot, St. Helena, CA’s Rico Abreu in fourth, and Phoenixville, PA’s Brian Montieth rounding out the top five.
Alan Krimes of Denver, PA took home a $150 hard-charger bonus. Chad Kemenah set Quick time of the evening with a lap of 11.545. Heat races were won by Sammy Swindell, Dale Blaney, Ryan Smith, and Mark Smith.
Minersville, PA’s Mike Lisowski scored a hard fought victory in the 25-lap Sportsman feature, collecting a $1,300 winner’s share.
Nathan Mohr and Jack Butler led the 24-car field to the green flag with Butler jumping out to the early lead and dominating the first-half of the racing event. Lisowski – from a fifth place starting position – moved into third in the early stages of the event, and despite multi-car battles took the lead just passed the halfway point.
Lisowski’s main challenge came mid-way through the race when Jordan Henn powered from a 12th place starting position to battle for the top spot. No one could dethrone Lisowski, who claimed the victory.
Ryan Higgs came home in the second position, Louden Reimert in third, Joe Funk in fourth, and current Grandview weekly point leader, Brian Hirthler.
The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series returns on Saturday, October 14 for Mods at the Madhouse. A Big-Block vs. Small-Block challenge event that also includes Sportsman, and MASS 305 Sprint Cars.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (August 16, 2017) - After a two-week intermission to allow teams the opportunity to enter the 57th Annual 5-hour ENERGY Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions will return to competition with a four-race stretch through The Keystone State, rejoining the notorious Pennsylvania Posse for four consecutive events from Thursday, August 17, to Sunday, August 20.
The Central Pennsylvania invasion will kick off officially on Thursday evening, August 17, with the third annual Thunder Cup at the Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania. The $5,000-to-win, Thunder on the Hill Racing Series program will feature the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions for the first and only time in 2017; the first visit since Dale Blaney tamed the 1/3-mile, high banked oval on August 18, 2016. In addition, Tony Stewart and Rico Abreu will each be on hand Thursday evening and entered for competition.
Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, will host the traveling Arctic Cat All Stars on Friday, August 18. The 35th annual Jack Gunn Memorial will highlight competition at the world-famous half-mile; the 32nd appearance by “America’s Series” since first making tracks in 1970. Williams Grove Speedway last hosted the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions on April 28 with Lance Dewease earning the big payday, bettering all 45 cars in attendance.
Action will move to the “Fabulous” Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown on Saturday, August 19. Much like Grandview, Lincoln Speedway will only host the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions on one occasion in 2017. The last time the Tony Stewart-owned organization invaded the Pigeon Hills, it was “Double-D” Danny Dietrich scoring the victory, beating Alan Krimes and Lucas Wolfe to the final checkers. Dietrich is the most recent winner during Arctic Cat All Star action, scoring $7,000 at Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, New York, just before the Knoxville Nationals break.
A visit to Susquehanna Speedway near York Haven on Sunday, August 20, will conclude the Arctic Cat All Star swing through The Keystone State. Unlike the three events prior, Susquehanna Speedway has not hosted an Arctic Cat All Star event since 1991.
Honoring the late Justin Snyder, Tony Stewart’s All Stars will take part in the Salute to the Troops program during their visit to Susquehanna, awarding a $5,000 top prize, as well as $500 to the evening’s fastest qualifier on behalf of Emory Transmissions, and $200 to the evening’s main event hard charger on behalf of Brown & Miller Racing Solutions.
Alvada, Ohio’s Chad Kemenah will lead the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions charge into Central Pennsylvania as the current Series point leader. The five-time and defending Series champion sits on top of the title chase with a 290-point advantage, also leading all full-time competitors with three victories on the season, as well as 25 top-ten finishes in 30 main event starts.
The “Kunkletown Kid” Ryan Smith, a former regular in Central Pennsylvania before joining the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions full-time in 2015, and again in 2017, will enter the weekend second in the championship chase. Smith recently captured his first Arctic Cat All Star victory of the season at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, New York, on Friday, July 28.
New Castle, Indiana’s Caleb Armstrong, a recent $15,000 winner during the inaugural Great Lakes Dirt Nationals at Mansfield (OH) Motor Speedway, will enter Pennsylvania third in the Arctic Cat All Star standings, followed by leading rookie contender, “Mad Max” Stambaugh, and Caleb Helms.
Grandview Speedway will open pit gates at 2:30pm on Thursday, August 17. The Arctic Cat All Star drivers meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm, followed by hot laps at 6:45pm.
