NEW FACES IN VICTORY LANE AT SPIRIT AUTO CENTER SPEEDWAY
On a night with a full schedule of action, two drivers won for the first time this season while two other drivers scored their second win of the season. Matt Smith scored the victory in the wingless 600cc Micro Sprint feature while Colin Bustard scored his first win of the season in the 270cc Micro Sprint feature. The 2015 ServPro Four Cylinder champion, Chris Sammons won for the second time this season. Mike Haggenbottom, the consecutive four-time champion of the TSRS 305 Sprints won his second Friday night feature on the 5/8th mile.
In the Hilborn TSRS 305 Sprint feature, Haggenbottom started seventh after a three pill was drawn for the invert. Randy Wilbert and Ryan Stillwaggon battled for the lead on the opening lap with Wilbert gaining the advantage by the end of the first lap. Wilbert began to pull away from the rest of the field but by lap five Stillwaggon began to close the gap. Jeff Geiges slowed and pulled onto the 1/4 mile to bring out the first caution on lap eight. On the restart, Stillwaggon overtook Wilbert for the lead. The racing action was halted on the twelfth lap for a duel flip in the first turn by John Burnett and Zack Burd. Both drivers were uninjured. When racing resumed, Stillwaggon led Haggenbottom and Wilbert back to the green flap. Haggenbottom dogged Stillwaggon until moving to the high groove to complete the pass for the lead on lap 14. Haggenbottom recorded his second Friday night win. Kyle Purks finished second with Rick Stief gaining third on the last lap. Stillwaggon faded to fourth in the closing laps with Tim Tanner, Jr. finishing fifth.
Smith led the entire distance to record his first win of the season and second of his career at Spirit Auto Center Speedway. Nick Havens and Rich Mellor traded second back and forth until Mellor took the position for good at the thirteenth lap. Jermain Godshall took third from Haven with one lap remaining with Havens finishing fourth. Bill Thomas took fifth with one lap remaining to finish fifth.
Luke Fogg led the opening laps of the 270cc Micro Sprint feature until Lee Reinhardt took command on lap six. Reinhardt continued to lead as Bustard steadily moved from his sixth starting position to the runner-up spot. On a restart on lap 11, Reinhardt restarted the race but quickly slowed and headed to the pits. Bustard inherited the lead and then held off current point leader, Tyler Reinhardt for the win. Joe Bednarek, Ryan Wozunk and Fogg completed the top five.
Rick Burnham, making his first start of the season in the ServPro Four Cylinders, led the opening lap of the feature. Sammons passed Burnham for the lead on lap two and began to pull away from the field. Current point leader, John Webster moved into second on the fifth lap and chased Sammons for the rest of the event. At the checkered Sammons recorded his second win of the season followed by Webster, Joe Garey, Burnham and Todd Francis.

CHRIS ALLEN BECOMES FIRST REPEAT WINNER OF THE SEASON – BESTS FIELD AT BRIDGEPORT
By ERIKA PALMAI WAGNER
BRIDGEPORT, NJ June 18, 2016 ... In front of a very packed grandstands, filled with seasoned race fans as well as many newcomers who had the opportunity to check out South Jersey’s best kept secret on PACK THE HOUSE NIGHT at Bridgeport Speedway, Chris Allen dominated the twenty lap Hilborn Fuel Injection Tri-State Racesaver Series feature event, making him the first repeat winner of the 2016 season. Allen, who won his first feature of the year at New Egypt on May 28th, also earned an “ace” card that goes towards his chances of winning the Tanner Brother’s Dairy Farm/Thayer Performance Poker Series at the year’s end.
“I was nervous that tonight was going to turn into a repeat of what happened the first time we were at Bridgeport this year,” Allen explained of his misfortune at the Super Speedway back in late April, when he lost his lead late race due to engine issues, handing a feature win to Kevin Nagy. “I swear I heard someone coming up behind me, but I guess it was my headphones or just all in my head. We were really good in clean air, we just have to get a little bit better in traffic”.
Setting the pace of twenty-three cars, it was Allen and rookie Logan Diehl who led the field to the green flag. From that moment on, Allen showed his dominance, taking the front runner spot and never looking back. After reaching lapped traffic, Mark Bitner, who started in back in fifth, made some early moves earlier in the race to get up to second a little after the midway point. Without any cautions however, Bitner was unable to catch the E.H. Allen Trucking number 71 of Allen, and at the checkered flag it would be Allen, Bitner, Diehl, Rick Stief and Jeff Geiges, who started in tenth to make his way up to fifth, rounding out the top five.
“I really wanted to win here that night that we broke, because it would have been four years to the date from when I won my first and last race here at Bridgeport,” remembers Chris. “But the biggest goal, for the longest time in my life, and any drivers life I’m sure, is to get at least one win a year. And this is the first time since I’ve won more than one race in a season since Quarter Midgets, so it’s pretty cool to be able to start off our year so strong, and I can only hope that the second half will be this good as well”.
With it being a Poker Series event, Thayer Performance presented the hard charger, Dave Brown Jr., with the “Burning Rubber Bonus” courtesy of Hoosier Racing Tire. Brown advanced seven positions, after starting in 19th and finishing in 12th. Along with the brand new Hoosier Racing right-rear Racesaver Spec tire, Brown also earned the Bruce’s Auto Body $25 addition cash bonus for his hard charging efforts.
Drivers who received the Top Three Hilborn Fuel Injection cash bonuses were Chris Allen, Mark Bitner and Logan Diehl. Hilborn Fuel Injection, the TSRS series sponsor, will present a cash bonus of $50, $35, and $25 to the top three finishing cars each week, only if they are running Hilborn Injection Systems. If a driver finishes in the top three, and they do not have Hilborn’s on their motor, that position’s bonus payout will roll over in the next week.
This weekend, the Tri State Racesaver Series will have a “Double Header” race weekend, where they will be back at Bridgeport Speedway this Friday Night and then Grandview Speedway Inc. on Saturday. "If you build it, they will come" - everyone remembers that line from the movie Field of Dreams. The Bridgeport & Spirit Auto Centers Speedways opened the gates and they came! With numbers surpassing anyone's expectations, they came - young and old, entire families - they came to the Logan Township race track, many to see their first ever stock car race!
And they saw nine divisions of race cars with racing action taking place on both the 5/8 mile and quarter mile tracks!
The Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman staged their starting line-up behind the grandstands, giving everyone a very up close and personal view of the field of twenty-four stock cars.
Scott Hulmes and Billy Briggs led the field to the green flag with Briggs taking the lead from the start. Last week's feature winner, Matt Stangle made contact with the fourth turn, bringing out the first and only caution of the twenty lap main event.
Briggs led the way on the restart as David Crossman took over second. Jeremy Harrington was on the move, challenging Crossman for second on laps four and five and securing the runner-up spot as Briggs led the way on lap five. Dave Damiano took over third on lap six as he raced Crossman out of turn two. Briggs, Harrington and Damiano ran nose to tail on lap seven before Harrington made his move to take the lead.
At half way, Harrington led Damiano, Briggs, Bobby Lilick and Crossman.
On lap twelve, Steve Davis broke into the top five and then took over fourth on the next lap. Tommy Beamer, driving Jeramy Doerr's No. 3D, took over fifth on lap fourteen.
Harrington led the way to the checkered flag with Damiano, Bobby Lilick, Davis and Beamer trailing the leader.
Harrington gave the fans another thrill as he celebrated his second win of the season in Helio Castroneves style by climbing the fence at the start/finish line just as the Indy car driver is known to do.
Tom Sherby was the winner of the DA's Auto Body Rookie feature as he picked up back to back wins over four time feature winner, Chuck Sayres, Jr. Shannon Marshall and Tom Terry followed the leaders across the finish line.
Felton, DE driver, TJ Henry drove to his fourth win of the 2016 season after taking the lead from Scott Dugan on lap three of the PennCo Tech Outlaw Stock feature.
Henry drove to the checkered flag ahead of Jeramy Doerr, Brian Ludwig, Dugan and Tom Wills, Jr. who raced from the rear of the field after an early race incident.
After leading all but the final two laps of a race earlier in the season, Christopher Allen, Jr. earned a flag to flag victory in the Tanner Brothers Dairy/Thayer Performance Poker Series Tri State Race Savers Sprint Car twenty lap feature. Mark Bitner raced to finish second ahead of Logan Diehl, Rick Stief and Jeff Geiges. Both Allen and Diehl made later appearances in action on the quarter mile track. Allen picked up an "Ace" for his Poker Series hand in the second race of the 2016 series.
Racing moved to the quarter mile speedway as Travis Hill drove to the win in the 600 Wingless Micro Sprint feature. Hill has competed in both the Crate/Sportsman and Modified ranks, has been doing double duty this season, racing in both Friday and Saturday night action.
After starting third on the grid, Hill moved into the lead on the first lap and led all of the way to the checkered. Jim Tippin finished second with Jon Keller, Greg Stevens and Austin Quick rounding out the top five.
Robbie Watson was the winner of the 270 Winged Micro Sprint feature over Ryan Wozunk, Logan Diehl, Tyler Reinhardt and Alex Swift. Ryan Heim led the first lap with Wozunk leading laps two and three before Watson took the lead.
After a heated battle among brothers, Lou Partite picked up the win in the twenty lap Speedway All Star Bagel Slingshot feature. Joe Toth finished second followed by Dave McCullough, Dave Morrell and David Bell.
John Webster was the winner of the Serv Pro Four Cylinder Enduros over Chris Sammons and Justin Dunn. Lee Allen picked up the win and the $1000 prize in the Eight Cylinder Enduros followed by Chris Allen, Jr. and Tom Wolf at the finish.
Friday night action returns this week to the Spirit Auto Center Speedway with the Monster Truck Exhibition. The TSRS Sprint Cars will compete on the 5/8 mile track while the 270 & 600 Micro Sprints and 4 Cylinder Enduros will compete on the quarter mile. Racing gets underway at 8pm.
It's Spirit Auto Center Monster Truck Crush Cancer Night at the Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday night as the Big Block Modifieds, Crate/Sportsman, Outlaw Stocks and Rookies compete. It's also graduation night for the DA's Auto Body Rookies! Racing starts at 7pm.

Bridgeport Speedway “Friends of Mike” Poker Series #3
Posted by: | CommentsFriends of Mike Poker Series #3
Date: 6/15/2016
Whitehouse, NJ driver, Sam Martz is the only driver to have competed in every one of the eleven Friends of Mike events.
As a matter of fact, Race Director, Danny Serrano recognized Martz for his support during last year's event.
This year, Martz created his own "award" when he drove to the win in the 45 lap Friends of Mike race that also served as the third hand of the 811 Dig Safely 2016 Poker Series. In addition to the $5,000 check, Martz earned an "Ace" for his Poker Series win, joining Dominick Buffalino and Duane Howard who have been winners this season in previous 811 Dig Safely Poker Series events.
Martz, who is currently second in the Bridgeport Speedway point standings to 2013 Bridgeport Champion, Ryan Watt, had it all go his way. Martz had his son, Sammy draw for his starting position in the main event and Sammy came through by drawing the pole for his dad.
Martz and Craig VonDohren led the starting field to the green flag with Martz grabbing the lead as the leaders came off of turn two on the first lap. 2012 Bridgeport Champion, Rick Laubach moved into second on a lap two restart. Laqubach actually edged ahead of Martz on a lap eight restart but the caution flag waved before another lap could be scored and Laubach's efforts were negated. Martz went back out in front when the race restarted and never looked back.
Tenth place starter, Dominick Buffalino took over third on lap eight and after starting seventeenth in the field, Ryan Watt raced into fourth on the same lap. Eleventh place starter, Duane Howard broke into the top five one lap later.
Buffalino raced by Laubach for second on lap eleven.
After five cautions during the early laps, the remainder of the race went caution free, allowing Martz to stretch his lead before he caught up to the back of the field at the race's mid-point. Racing through lapped traffic allowed Buffalino, Laubach, Ryan Watt and Duane Howard to chase down the leader but Martz was able to keep a car length or two ahead of his challengers most of the way to the checkered flag.
On one occasion, Buffalino actually came within striking distance. "I never saw anyone but I could hear motors behind me," Martz stated. "But I didn't know who it was."
Martz led the way to the checkered flag and the win over the star studded field followed by Buffalino, Laubach, Watt and Howard. VonDohren, the winner of the last two Friends of Mike races, Stewart Friesen, Brett Kressley, Jesse Hill and Richie Pratt, Jr. rounded out the top ten.
Martz held the trophy high with pride. "I'm tired of the invaders coming here and winning," but Martz put a stop to that.
Brian Papiez has always wanted to win a race at the Bridgeport Speedway and Papiez did just that when he drove into the lead of the twenty lap Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman feature, taking the lead from polesitter, Adam Cox with on lap five.
Papiez led the rest of the way to the checkered, taking the win of Eric Kormann who was able to close the gap on the leader but not able to challenge for the lead. Kris Lilick finished third with Jeremy Harrington taking fourth over last week's first time feature winner, Matt Stangle. David Crossman, Stephen Kemery, Clyde Cox, Adam Cox and Bill Briggs completed the top ten in the running order at the finish line.
Action returns to the Bridgeport and Spirit Auto Center Quarter Mile this Saturday with Bridgeport's first Pack the House Night. Grandstand admission is FREE! Fans will get to see the Crate/Sportsman, Rookies, Outlaw Stocks and Sprint Cars of Tri-State Race Savers on the 5/8th mile track in addition to 270cc and 600cc Micro Sprint, 4 & 8 Cylinder Enduros and Slingshots on the quarter mile. All for FREE!! Racing gets underway at 6pm.

Bike Night is one of the most popular Saturday night events on the Bridgeport Speedway schedule and the first one of the season comes this Saturday at the Logan Township race track. Bike Night means different things to different people. For one, anyone riding a motorcycle to the track will be admitted for FREE! Bikes are displayed behind the grandstands for all of the fans to admire. Awards are given for special categories. And the kids love Bike Night because several boys and girls will be going home with brand new bicycles!
Saturday night action will feature the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds, Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman, the PennCo Tech Outlaw Stocks and the DA’s Auto Body Rookies. 2015 Modified Champion, Jamie Mills opened the 2016 point chase with a feature win and will be the man to beat when the Modifieds take to the track for their twenty-five lap feature event. Mills has two wins so far this season while three time track champion, Wade Hendrickson picked up one win in pre-season competition. Past champions, Rick Laubach and Ryan Watt are looking for their first Bridgeport wins of the season along with Dave Hunt, Sam Martz, Richie Pratt, Jr., Jesse & Travis Hill, and others.
Eric Kormann picked up his first win of the season in the Crate/Sportsman division during the last event. This division has yet to see a repeat winner this season. Brad Roberts, Steve Davis and Jeremy Harrington each of one win during the pre-season events and are seeking their second wins of the season while Kevin Belmont, Stephen Kemery, Dave Damiano, and others will be looking to add their names to the win list for 2016.
TJ Henry will be looking to add to his win total in the Outlaw Stocks after a solid start to the season. 2015 Poker Series Champion, Tom Wills, Jr., 2014 Track Champion, Jim Avery, Jeff Dirkes and a host of others will all be trying to get to the checkered flag first in Outlaw Stock competition.
Chuck Sayres has won the last two Rookie feature events – will twice prove to be thrice when the 2016 Rookies take to the speedway? Or will there will be a new winner – Bob Hartman, Shannon Marshall or Tom Terry?
Come out to the track early and enjoy the volleyball or basketball courts. The kids can play on the bounce house while you enjoy the live music or catch up the racing action in the official program of the Bridgeport Speedway – the Bridgeport Bullet. Take a ride with the Bridgeport Bandit on the Bandit Bus and visit your favorite drivers in the pit area. Or enjoy the tasteful delights of the Bridgeport Speedway concession stands!
