WANNER TOPS ARDC FIELD ON BRIDGEPORT QUARTER MILE
Wanner Becomes Fourth Different Winner in ARDC Action
Brett Wanner of Shoemakersville, PA picked up the win in the twenty lap American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) feature on the Bridgeport Speedway quarter mile on Friday night. Wanner became the fourth different driver in four races to capture a win in 2015 ARDC competition.
Wanner is in his fourth season of ARDC competition, having been named ARDC Rookie of the Year in 2012. Wanner picked up his first wingless midget win during his Rookie season. After dealing with mechanical issues during the three previous events, everything went Wanner's way as he drove to the win.
It was a different sort of Victory Lane for Bridgeport announcer, Jeff Ahlum since Wanner is hearing impaired but there was no denying his enthusiasm and celebration!
Brenden Bright and Wanner made up the front row for the start of the feature event. Bright jumped out to the early lead but action quickly came to a halt when several cars tangled in turn two and Ryan Greth rolled off the backstretch. As the field began to form for the restart, Bright's Presidential HVAC #92 was leaking fluid. When it was determined that Bright was losing fuel, he was sent to the pits for safety reasons.
Wanner took the lead on the restart as PJ Gargiulo zipped between several cars to take over second at the end of the first lap. A move in turn four one lap later, had Gargiulo facing the wrong way as the caution came out for the Morton, PA driver who restarted at the rear of the field. Wanner led the way over Jimmy Radney, Bruce Buckwalter Jr., Tim Buckwalter and Nick Wean.
Wanner began to put some distance on the field as Tim Buckwalter moved up to third and Trevor Kobylarz moved into the top five. Kobylarz was on the move as he moved up to challenge Tim Buckwalter as the Wanner led Radney to the crossed flags to complete lap ten.
Mechanical issues found Tim Buckwalter stopped in turn three on lap twelve, setting up a single file restart. Wanner led Radney, Kobylarz, Bruce Buckwalter, Jr. and Steven Drevicki with nine laps remaining.
Kobylarz tried to make a move to the inside of Radney on the backstretch but Radney held his position. Kobylarz slid by Radney on lap thirteen to take over second and set his sights on Wanner who had begun to pull away from the field.
With five laps to go, Kobylarz was closing on Wanner as Radney ran third followed by Bruce Buckwalter, Jr. and Nick Wean. Kobylarz tried to slide Wanner for the lead in turn four but was unable to clear the leader. After contact was made, Wanner stretched as lead as Kobylarz continued in second. Bruce Buckwalter Jr. raced Radney for the third spot as Wean moved in to challenge.
With two laps remaining, Kobylarz had a rear axle break in turn two, setting up a two lap shootout to the finish. Wanner his lead as Wean began to advance through the top five. Radney pulled off the track with mechanical woes just a lap short of the finish as Wanner led Wean, Bruce Buckwalter, Jr., Steven Drevicki and Gargiulo to the checkered flag.
Bright and Gargiulo won the two qualifying heats.
ARDC action moves to the Grandview Speedway and the Thunder on the Hill opener on Sunday, May 24th.

EDDIE WAGNER MAKES A LAST LAP PASS FOR THE WIN AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY (May 2, 2015)
Bridgeport, NJ--Eddie Wagner, of Franklinville NJ, earned his first victory of the 2015 season, making a thrilling last lap pass to win over Dave Brown, Mike Haggenbottom, Jon Haegele, and Bob DeVault. This was Wagner’s first visit to victory lane since November of 2013, and by the looks of how well his season has started off, it does not look to be his last.
There were twenty-two TSRS sprint cars in attendance for the “Camera and Autograph” themed event, with two heat race triumphs going to Mike Haggenbottom and Adam Carberry. Before the night began, fans were able to meet and greet with their favorite drivers, receiving photos and autographs behind the grandstands at Bridgeport Speedway.
The field was inverted by 10, putting Dave Brown and Jon Haegele on the front row. As the field came around to take the green flag, it was Brown who shot to the lead going into turn one. Going down the back stretch and into turns three and four, Mike Haggenbottom and Eddie Wagner seemed to be on a mission, with Wagner advancing from fifth to third and Haggenbottom coming from ninth to the sixth position. The caution came out on lap two for the first time for Tim Smolenyak who spun out in turn four.
On the restart, Brown brought the field to the green and when entering turn one, Jon Haegele went to the high side making an attempt to capture the lead. Going down the back stretch it was Haegele and Brown drag racing for the top spot with Haegele once again sailing his bright orange number 61 CRC sponsored sprinter around the top, this time taking over the lead on lap three. A second caution was brought out on lap three for Scott Frack, who spun in turn three.
With the cars all bunched back together, Jon Haegele lead the field down the front stretch, again using the top side to his advantage, pulling away from the field as the race continued on. Although the 61 was making the high side look like the fastest way around the high speed oval, Eddie Wagner was making his way to the front by working the inside, taking second spot from Dave Brown on lap six. Mike Haggenbottom, who was also maneuvering his way on the bottom moved into fourth position, just in time to make it into the show that was unfolding between the top three.
“With this new clay, the racing is so much better,” says Wagner about the multi-groove racing. “We’re able to run where ever we want, making it a much better show for the fans, and a great time racing out there for us drivers. I can’t thank Danny, Keith, Brian and Dave enough for all they do to provide us with a great race track every time TSRS comes to Bridgeport”.
Lapped traffic came into play on lap nine, and Wagner, Brown and Haggenbottom began to gain some ground on the leader. On lap eleven, the AC Racing number 70 of Eddie Wagner seized the lead from Jon Haegele while chopping back and forth between the slower cars. On lap twelve however, Haegele captured the lead back from Wagner running again on the high side coming out of turn two. Wagner almost got tangled with the lapped car of Smolenyak, who was pulling off onto the quarter mile track down the front stretch, but was able to recover, not losing the second position or much ground on the 61 car. Dave Brown, who was running in third, seemed to have pulled a magic trick out of his hat, when he passed both Wagner and Haegele on the high side in turns three and four on lap thirteen, capturing his early lead back in a crowd pleasing way. Maneuvering through heavy lapped traffic continued with Dave Brown leading, Eddie Wagner second, and Mike Haggenbottom now sitting in third after passing Haegele coming out of turn three. The third and final caution of the night came out for Zack Burd, who was sitting on the front stretch after spinning.
When asked about his preference to the inside lane, Wagner explained “The leaders were running the top, and the bottom was left open, so I didn’t feel the need to go up there. My car always runs well on the inside groove, so I just focused on being fast down there, so when I caught the leaders, I would be able to pass them without any trouble”.

#70 Eddie Wagner #44 David Brown (WoS photo)
With six laps remaining, and no lapped cars in sight, the winner was soon to be determined with at least five possible contenders now in line ready to take to final green flag. Dave Brown took the lead, stretching it out over ten car lengths down the back straight away on the fourteenth circuit, with Eddie Wagner sitting in second, not showing any signs of giving up. Haggenbottom began putting the pressure on Wagner for second, but the number 70 did not let up and continued to hunt down Dave Brown and his Ennis Fuels & Burners Service number 44 machine for the front-running spot. While Brown worked the top and Wagner, again showing favoritism to the bottom, Eddie finally took the lead on lap nineteen and never looked back. With the checkered flag waving, Eddie Wagner took the win, with Dave Brown finishing a strong second place, Mike Haggenbottom coming home in third, Jon Haegele finishing fourth, and Bob DeVault rounding out the top five, finishing fifth.
Eddie, who has had a history of heart breaks throughout his six year sprint car racing career, took time to thank the ones who have helped him through the years. “Without the help of my dedicated crew guys, Mark “Shag” Dundon, Marco Michetti, and Brandon Weber, my family for all of their continuing support, the Purks Family at Langhorne Racing Engines for getting my engine program back in order, AC Racing & Palmco Race Car Repair, tonight would not be possible. I can’t forget my Dad who was unable to make it tonight because he was stuck at work, because without him, I would not be standing here today”.
The TSRS Sprints return this coming Saturday on May 9th at New Egypt Speedway for the second time this season. Pit gates open at 3 pm, front gates open at 4 pm, hot laps start at 5:15 pm, and racing starts at 6 pm. But there are plenty of talented drivers and fast cars who will challenge for the win on Saturday including past champions Ryan Watt and Wade Hendrickson. SATURDAY NIGHT RACING RETURNS TO THE BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
After three weeks of special Sunday shows, Saturday night racing returns to the Bridgeport 5/8 mile speedway as the championship point season gets underway on Dollar Dog night as the Spirit Dodge Big Block Modifieds, Crate/Sportsman, Stewart Stainless Outlaw Stocks and D.A.'s Auto Body & Repair Rookies take to the track for a full night of racing.
The new clay surface has provided a lot of close, exciting racing during the early weeks of the racing season and conditions only promise to get even better with the later race starts of the Saturday night schedule.
The 2015 Bridgeport Championships will be up for grabs as the point season gets underway. Former champions, Ryan Watt, Rick Laubach and Wade Hendrickson will be looking to add another crown to their collection while drivers like Richie Pratt, Jr., Dominic Buffalino, Sam Martz, Jesse Hill, Ron Roberts and Tommy Beamer will be looking for their first ever titles.
The Crate/Sportsman championship will be up for grabs this season with CJ Jones, Bobby Lilick, Kris Lilick, Kevin Belmont and Scott Hulmes among the drivers seeking their first Bridgeport Championship.
After contending for the Outlaw Stock Championship right down to the wire last season, Jeramy Doerr has exerted himself as the man to beat with his dominant performance so far this season but 2014 Champion, Jim Avery, Tom Wills, Jr., Jack Beaumont and the rest of the field will have a lot to say about that on race night.
A new class of Rookies takes to the track for their eight lap feature event as they gain more and more seat time and experience as the weeks go by.
Saturday night race time is 6pm. Fan Fest will precede the night's racing action, giving race fans the opportunity to meet some of their favorite drivers at the entrance to the speedway. The Bridgeport Speedway mascot, the Bridgeport Bandit will be on hand and offers his Bandit Bus for fans to tour the pit area throughout the course of the evening. There's plenty to do for the whole family at the Bridgeport Speedway.
The mighty Modifieds will take to the quarter mile track on Friday night as the first of five Open Modified shows lead up to the Romp in the Swamp event on September 26. The Modifieds on the quarter mile are always a popular feature. The 270cc and 600cc Micro Sprints and 4 cylinder Enduro cars will also compete with racing getting underway at 8pm.

Quick Draw: Rick Laubach Makes History As First-Ever ‘South Jersey Shootout’ Winner At Bridgeport Speedway; Hellertown, PA Driver Earns $5,400-Plus In Short Track Super Series Fueled By Hi-Tek South Region Opener
Written by Cody Manmiller
BRIDGEPORT, NJ - Rick Laubach was quickest to the draw and outgunned the competition on his way to a ‘South Jersey Shootout’ victory at Bridgeport Speedway on Sunday.
As the class of the field, Laubach took the pole starting position and cruised to the $5,400 payday plus contingency awards in the opening race of the Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled by Hi-Tek Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc. South Region presented by Scotty’s Speed & Diesel. Laubach, 44, of Hellertown, Pa., led all 40 laps of the big-block/small-block Modified feature event.
Sunday’s event at the spacious South Jersey oval kicked off the five-race STSS South Region, in its first season under the management of BD Motorsports Media LLC.
“It just all worked out,” said Laubach in the familiar Bridgeport Victory Lane. “The track was good tonight, it was more my style. Obviously it didn’t hurt starting first but then everyone behind you can go where they want,” noted Laubach.
With Laubach, in the Gary Hermann-owned No. 7, and much of the leaders running the bottom groove early in the race, it allowed cars from deeper in the pack to make some headway on the outside.
At the drop of the green, it was Laubach who snatched the early lead ahead of David Van Horn, the outside pole-sitter. He quickly widened his margin while Van Horn and Duane Howard battled for the runner-up spot.
The second caution of the night came on lap 15 when J.R. Heffner slowed in turn four, a fortunate time for the race leader, as Laubach just began to catch lap traffic. The big mover at the time was Ryan Watt, coming from the 12th position. Watt’s extreme outside lane progress landed the Boyertown, Pa., driver in sixth position at the yellow.
Shortly after the green waved, Watt jumped into fourth, roaring around the outside of Ryan Godown and Richie Pratt Jr. before a caution halted things again on lap 24.
Watt electrified the crowd on lap 26 when he blistered passed Howard and Van Horn to take the second spot with Craig Von Dohren, the 24th-starter, now following suit on the outside, in fifth, driving the Dick Biever-owned No. 14s.
On lap 31, Watt made his charge for the lead, reaching the back bumper of Laubach’s machine. But when Laubach moved to the outside himself, it was all over.
“My crew was waving their arms at me, so I thought I better get going on the outside,” Laubach said.
Van Horn, of Harmony, N.J., battled back for a second-place finish in a rare Bridgeport Speedway start. Van Horn, a New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway regular, earned the largest single-event payday of his Modified career as a result of the runner-up effort. Van Horn earned $3,200 plus other incentives for his efforts.
Oley, Pa.’s Von Dohren placed third. Von Dohren was leading his heat race when a right-rear tire went down. He ultimately had to qualify via a consolation. Von Dohren’s advance netted him $500 cash as the Touch of Green Landscaping (Boyertown, Pa.) Hard Charger. Von Dohren’s third-place total was $2,560-plus.
Watt settled for fourth in the Ron Roberts-owned No. 14W but not without leaving an impression on the crowd. His run to the front was the only significant challenge that Laubach faced on the night.
Rounding out the top five was a returning Jack Swain, who started inside row two. Swain, of Pilesgrove, N.J., hovered somewhere inside the top five all evening and was able to bring home a solid finish.
Finishing sixth through 10th, respectively, were Ryan Godown of Ringoes, N.J., a winner at Bridgeport already this season; Billy Pauch Jr. of Frenchtown, N.J., in the Pakenham Motorsports No. 18 Jr.; Milford, Del.’s Jamie Mills, the 20th-place starter; Mike Franz of National Park, N.J., another big mover from the 16th spot; and Montgomery, N.Y.’s Anthony Perrego, who had to drop to the tail end of the field when he suffered a right-rear flat on lap 24.
A total of 42 big-block/small-block Modifieds attempted to qualify for the STSS South Region opener. Drivers in the field represented New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New York and Massachusetts.
Heat winners - earning $50 each from C&S Equipment - were Wade Hendrickson (Lawrenceville, N.J.), Mike Iles (Medford, N.J.), Ryan Anderson (Peach Bottom, Pa.) and Perrego.
Consolation victors were Andy Bachetti of Sheffield, Mass., and Mike Barone of Hillsborough, N.J.
Brett Kressley continued his domination of the area’s Sportsman division, scoring a dominant win in the 20-lap Sportsman/Crate 602 headliner. Kressley, of Orefield, Pa., used a front-row starting berth to earn a $750 payday, holding off Pat Wall.
The win was Kressley’s third of the weekend and sixth of the very early ’15 campaign.
Brian Carber of Pipersville, Pa., drove from sixth position to win the 20-lap XCel 600 Modified main. Carber is a moonlighting Sprint Car and Micro-Sprint driver in Doug Borger’s traveling XCel 600 Modified series. He earned $1,000 for his efforts.
Jeramy Doerr of Richland, N.J., was the Outlaw Stock 20-lap victor.
The Short Track Super Series Fueled By Hi-Tek continues Tuesday, May 5 (rain date: May 6) at Pa.’s Big Diamond Speedway with the ‘Anthracite Assault’ special offering $5,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green flag for 50 laps. The event is a combination North and South Region event. Sportsman and XCel 600 Modifieds complete the program.

RYAN STILLWAGGON EARNS FIRST CAREER SPRINT CAR VICTORY WITH TSRS AT BRIDGEPORT (Bridgeport, NJ)
By Erika Palmai Wagner
Ryan Stillwaggon, of Burlington, NJ, earned his first career sprint car victory Friday Night with the Tri-State Racesaver Series at Bridgeport Speedway. Stillwaggon held off a hard charging Bob DeVault in a thrilling twenty lap feature event at the newly resurfaced South Jersey five-eighths mile. Adam Carberry, who was a close contender for the win as well settled for third, Mike Haggenbottom, who pitted early in the race, restarted twenty-second and came through the field and finished 4th, and Eddie Wagner round out the top five finishing fifth.
Three heat race events were presented for the field of twenty-two 305 Sprints with victories going to Brad Franks, Mike Haggenbottom, and Eddie Wagner.

#77 Jeff Geiges #11 Ryan Stillwaggon (WoS photo)
Ryan Stillwaggon and Jeff Geiges led the field to the green with Stillwaggon taking strong control of the top spot over Geiges. The first caution was brought out on lap 1, with Tim Tanner clipping the inside wall of turns one and two, side lining Tanner with front end damage, prematurely ending his attempt to challenge for the win.
Restarting the field in double file fashion, Stillwaggon checked out once again with Eddie Wagner climbing up the ranks very quickly from his 5th starting spot, obtaining two positions by lap 2, moving him up to third. Stillwaggon continued to show his dominance with a strong lead, followed by Jeff Geiges, Eddie Wagner, Adam Carberry and Bobby Devault who started back in 12th. Another caution was displayed on lap 5, with Samantha Lieberman spinning and coming to a stop in turn 3.
The green flag dropped to restart the race and Stillwaggon, Geiges and DeVault, who took advantage of the restart slicing and dicing his way to the 3rd spot, were the top three. Another caution was displayed on lap 6, with Dave Brown stopping in turn 3.
On the next restart, it was Adam Carberry and his green number 47 who took advantage of the very fast outside groove, jumping from 5th to 3rd, and then moving quickly to 2nd on the top by lap 10. Stillwaggon, showing the supremacy of his SEC Racing Engine power plant, continued to display his authority over the field with over a half a straightaway lead over the stout competition behind him. By catching up to lapped traffic, this allowed Carberry, DeVault, Haggenbottom and Wagner to reel him in. Bob DeVault, who started the feature back in 12th place, challenged Carberry for 2nd, defeating him and then set his eyes on the lead to which he conquered by lap 16. The caution was brought out for the final time due to a car stopping on the front stretch. Things were about to get interesting.

On the final restart, Bob DeVault lead the field to the final green flag, but Stillwaggon, who lost possession of the top spot a lap before, was not going to give it up without a fight. Stillwaggon challenged DeVault in a side by side dash down the back stretch, with the number 11 regaining the lead on lap 17. For the final laps, DeVault continued to challenge Stillwaggon, offering multiple runs at the lead, but Ryan prevailed. With the checkered flag in the air, Ryan Stillwaggon took his Quality Auto Body number 11 sprinter to victory lane with Bob DeVault finishing a close second, Adam Carberry third, Mike Haggenbottom fourth and Eddie Wagner finishing fifth.
