BIG-BLOCK/358 MODIFIED $5,000 TO WIN MODS AT THE MADHOUSE AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15
BECHTELSVILLE, PA – A frightening chill falls over the Grandview Speedway as the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series presents MODS AT THE MADHOUSE on Saturday, October 15 -- a thrilling three-division show headlined by a Big-Block/358 Modified Monster challenge – plus action from the Sportsman and the TSRS Sprint Car Series. Race time is set for 6 PM.
A staple of the Thunder Series calendar for over 15 years, the Halloween-themed event presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings will feature a 40-lap Big-Block/358 Modified feature event with a possible $5,000 top-prize going to the winner. The treats don’t stop there, with tenth place offering a $1,000 payday and a possible $500 to start. All area competitors are encouraged to attend, and there is NO ENTRY FEE.
Regular Grandview ghouls are expected to defend the Bechtelsville home turf including 2016 Track Champion, Craig VonDohren and recent Freedom 76 victor Jeff Strunk. Outsiders expected to haunt the hill include Billy Pauch Jr., Ryan Watt, Rick Laubach and Ryan Godown.
There is no entry fee, but competitors are encouraged to pre-enter by October 10th by calling 443-513-4456. Pre-entered competitors will compete for a $5,000 top prize and $500 to start. While non-pre-entered competitors will compete for a $4,000 top prize and $400 to start.
A widened rules package allows participation from all area Modified competitors, including Big and Small Block engine packages and both American Racer and Hoosier tires. For further rules information visit www.thunderonthehillracingseries.com
Joining the Modifieds on Saturday, October 15 will be the Sportsman, competing in a 25-lap feature event paying $1,300 to the winner plus qualifying events. 2016 Track Champion Jordan Henn and the 38-lap Freedom Sportsman winner Brandon Grosso are expected to compete. The TSRS Sprint Car Series joins the action with a 25-lap event, and the Blast from the Past Vintage Cars are included in the night’s activities.
All Sportsman and 305 Sprint Car competitors are welcome to attend with full qualifying heat races and a consolation event on the schedule.
Race fans young and old are encouraged to dress in costume to be eligible for special Halloween treats, a tradition of this event for many, many years. The Halloween Party remains a big part of this event.
General Admission ticket pricing for Saturday, October 15 is $25 for Adults, Children 6-11 are $10 and Kids 5 & under are FREE! The pit fee is $35, and a license is not required.
Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Advanced ticket holders can enter at 3:30 PM; General Admission gates open at 4:00 PM, the first green flag flies at 6:00 PM.

Tickets may be paid for and picked-up at the WILL CALL Window on race night after 3:00 PM. Advance ticket holders may enter the grandstands at 3:30 PM a full half-hour before General Admission tickets go on sale.
Modified & Sportsman Tire Rules -- American Racer or Hoosier Tires are allowed. No mixing of tire brands, competitors must run four of one brand. Any Track Stamp is welcome. American Racer Compounds: Fronts - 33 or harder, Left Rear - 44 or harder, Right Rear - 48 or 50. No Harder than a 50 compound will be allowed. Hoosier Tire Compound must be D300.
Modified Rules - Weights: 358 on Gas: 2,275 lbs., 358 on Alcohol: 2,375 lbs., Big Block: 2,500 lbs. ** No oxygenated gasoline. Standard body, NO Sail Panels, NO Open Small Blocks.
Sportsman Rules - Weights: Open Sportsman w/ Steel Wheels: 2,450 lbs., Open Sportsman w/ Aluminum Wheels: 2,500 lbs., Crate 604: 2,375 lbs., Crate 602 w/ Aluminum Wheels: 2,375 lbs. SAIL PANELS ARE PERMITTED.
Celebrating the 27th season of racing action, the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series always includes fun for the fans with activities such as: Pre-Race Pit Tours, the Inside/Out Experience – where fans can sign-up to watch hot laps from the infield, the Low Down & Dirty Radio Show pre-race Meet & Greet, JOE “THE PIZZA DUDE”, giveaways, fireworks, and appearances by the Thunder Girls. Jim Gallagher and GALCO Communications always take part in offering some special fun for the race fans.

HALLOWEEN PARTY RETURNS TO THUNDER ON THE HILL
MODS AT THE MADHOUSE HIGHLIGHTS TRIPLE THUNDER THRILLER SATURDAY NIGHT OCTOBER 15 AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series will close out the 2016 season at the Grandview Speedway on Saturday night, October 15 with the MODS at the MADHOUSE Halloween Party getting underway at 6 PM.
This three division Triple Thunder Thriller program presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings will include the 358 Modifieds and Big Block Modifieds in a 40 lap trick or treat event paying $5,000 to win, $1,000 for tenth and $500 to take the green for all pre-entered drivers. Also on the racing program will be the Sportsman and TSRS Sprints with all three divisions taking part in a series of qualifying events leading up to the 40 lap Modified feature, 25 lap Sportsman feature and a 25 lap TSRS Sprint feature. Also on the program will be the Blast from the Past Vintage Cars.
On Saturday, October 15, pit gates will open at 2PM and the grandstand will open at 4 PM. The first green flag will fall at 6 PM to start the heat race qualifying. Adult admission is $25, children 6 to 11 $10 and children under the age of 5 will be admitted for free. The pit fee is $35 and a license is not required.
As tradition with the annual Halloween Party events, there will be a Halloween Parade for the children with prizes and even adults who dress for the occasion will be up for prizes. As usual, the Inside/Out activity and pre-race pit tours will take place free of charge. Spectators may sign in at the front gate to be part of the pre-race fun. As always, after the races fans are invited to take part in the victory lane celebration and visit the drivers in the pits after the races.
In the 2015 running of the MODS at the MADHOUSE, Duane Howard was the Modified feature winner as Brad Brightbill was the sportsman feature winner with Mike Haggenbottom of Levittown, PA scoring his first ever Grandview win in the TSRS Sprint feature.

JEFF STRUNK EARNS IN EXCESS OF $25,000 FOR HIS SIXTH FREEDOM 76 VICTORY AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. September 11, 2016 . . . Jeff Strunk, “the Bechtelsville Bullet,” had been having a rather mediocre season, at least by his usually high standards, at Grandview Speedway behind the wheel of the Glenn Hyneman owned No. 126 Modified. Saturday night the ten-time NASCAR track point champion rectified the 2016 campaign by pulling off his biggest win of the year the Freedom 76-Lap Modified Classic event for a hefty payday of $25,000 plus. He racked up a sizeable amount in lap money, the $100 half-way leader money from Area Auto Racing News and the Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award.
Strunk didn’t have an easy time in claiming his sixth win in the event, his last being in 2013, as he first dueled with Ryan Watt, who he lost the lead to earlier and then had to thwart off the challenges of second-place finisher and defending race winner Craig VonDohren.
Following the five qualifying heats won by Dan Bouc, Jared Umbenhauer, Bobby Varin, Rick Laubach, also the winner of the $1,000 Cash Dash, and David VanHorn plus the Schaeffer Motorsports Minuteman 20 captured by Kyle Borror the 32-car starting field was set for the main event – the 46th Annual Freedom 76.
Through the luck of the draw Jeff Strunk pulled the number one seed and he wasted no time maintaining the lead on the initial green from starter Ray Kemp. Thrashing for positions behind him were Watt, Ray Swinehart, Brian Krummel and Mike Kellner.
Duane Howard, the race winner in 2011, brought out the first caution on the fifth lap when he slowed on the homestretch. After a quick pit stop he rejoined the action. Strunk maintained first on the restart and within a matter of laps he had a comfortable margin built up over the rest of the competition.
Lapped traffic allowed Watt to reel Strunk in and gain some ground.
Finally on lap 20, Billy Pauch slowed in turn one after contact with the homestretch wall while running eighth bringing him to an abrupt halt and the yellow was out. This time Watt, who started third, outgunned Strunk to become the new leader.
By this time the order behind Watt consisted of Strunk, 12th-place starter Von Dohren, Swinehart and last week’s feature winner Doug Manmiller, who started eighth.
The field regrouped when Kellner, in the top ten, brought out the 34th lap caution when he slowed his pace in turn four.
When action went green again with Watt on the high lane and Strunk hugging the inside, the pair battled side-by-side for several laps with neither one lifting.
Strunk was back in front at the conclusion of the 37th lap.
Don Norris Jr. slowed in the second turn for the yellow shortly after Strunk regained control and that brought out a mandatory fuel stop.
After the seven-minute stop, Strunk was still first, but now Manmiller and VonDohren were second and third as Watt got shuffled to fourth and Rick Laubach fifth.
VonDohren was back in the runner-up spot on the 43rd lap and set his sights on Strunk.
Ryan Godown brought out the final caution on the 49th lap after contact with the homestretch wall brought him to a stop in turn two. Once again the restart saw Strunk stick with the inside path and VonDohren running his familiar high lane. The two swapped paint on occasion, but not enough to change the status. Waiting in the wings for a miscue in hopes of advancement were Laubach, Manmiller and Watt.
Lapped cars came into the picture again on the 66th lap and Laubach began gaining ground on the front two.
Strunk kept everyone behind him and went on to claim his third win of the season at the 1/3-mile oval followed by VonDohren, Laubach, Manmiller and Watt. Rounding out the top ten were Swinehart, Krummel, Umbenhauer, Kyle Weiss and Varin.
The $500 Hard Charger award sponsored by Guntherracing.com and all his sponsors topped by Square One Markets went to Howard as he started 32nd and finished 11th. Krummel, the seventh place finisher received the T.P.Trailers rookie of the race award while tenth place finisher Bobby Varin received the T.P.Trailers non-regular competitor award.
In the 20-lap Schaeffer Motorsports Minuteman 20, the last chance to qualify, Borror and Dom Buffalino battled back and forth for the lead lap after lap, but it was Borror that emerged the victor trailed by Buffalino, Godown, Kevin Hirthler and Howard putting them in the final starting spots for the Freedom 76.

GROSSO AND STRADA CLAIM SPORTSMAN AND SPRINT VICTORIES AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY IN FRIDAY NIGHT RACING ACTION
BECHTELSVILLE, PA SEPTEMBER 10, 2016 . . . Rising young racing talent Brandon Grosso hung on for an exciting Sportsman victory, Friday night at Grandview Speedway, while Eddie Strada blew the doors off the competition to take home the dominating win in the TSRS 305 Sprint Car main event, as part of the third annual Night Before the Freedom 76’er events at the high-banked third-mile dirt track in Bechtelsville, PA. For both it was their first career victory at the track.
With his win Friday night, Grosso now has 16 victories in 2016 at five different tracks, as he enjoys a tremendous campaign.
With the displaying of the green in the annual Sportsman 38’er, pole sitter B.J. Joly vaulted out immediately into the lead over Mike Koffel. On Lap 2, Brad Arnold, who started third, moved into second spot and Grosso, who picked fifth to start in the prerace draw, was fourth. After three circuits it was Joly in front of Arnold and Grosso as the top three.
Exiting Turn 4 on the high outside on Lap 5 it was Arnold going around Joly to become the new race leader. Two tours later Grosso advanced into the runner-up role.
A caution on Lap 12 regrouped the field after Todd Huffman spun in Turn 4 all alone.
Green again and it was Grosso surging ahead off Turn 2 running on the high outside, dropping Arnold to second, with Grandview 2016 Sportsman track Champion Jordan Henn, who started in twelfth, now up to third. Craig Whitmoyer of Hamburg, PA was running a solid fourth. Another yellow after 15-laps for a spinning Brad Roberts slowed things.
“I had to chase down that 830 car (Arnold) for a while to get out in front,” explained Grosso, 16, of Montgomery, N.J. “The track was great, though. You could run up on top or low down on the bottom and it produced great racing all-around tonight.”
The Lap 16 restart showed Grosso again out in front over Henn of Kutztown, PA and Whitmoyer, with Arnold now falling back into fourth-place. By Lap 21, Grosso started to stretch out his advantage, as he got into lapped traffic. The lapped traffic actually allowed Henn to start to close in again by Lap 30.
With two to go, Grosso was caught up in heavy traffic, with Henn and Whitmoyer right on his tailpipe.
The final go-round had a thrilling three-car battle to the checkered, with Whitmoyer ducking underneath Henn to steal second. Whitmoyer actually inched in front of Grosso at one point, but Grosso won the race to the flagstand over Whitmoyer, Henn, Arnold and Jim Housworth.
“I didn’t know which way to go those final 5-laps,” revealed Grosso, a third generation racer. “The lapped cars seemed to be all over there at the end and it made us really have to work hard to win this one tonight. I got stuck, there, for a while behind the lapped cars and it sure made it exciting at the end.”
Grosso took home $1,500 for his triumph and earned the Dan’s Deli Halfway Hoagie award as the race leader at the crossed flags.
Heat winners included Grosso, Roberts, Mike Lisowski and Huffman. The consolation races were won by Ryan Lilick and Brian Papiez.
The 25-lap TSRS 305 Sprint Cars feature showed Joe Kay jumping out in front from the pole over Scott Frack and Bryant Davis. A red on Lap 3 stopped the event after Chris Allen rolled it over in Turn 4.
With the restart it was Kay again on top over Frack and Scott Lutz, with Davis now fourth. On Lap 5 Davis advanced into third. By Lap 8 Davis was on the move taking second spot and on Lap 10 Davis roared by Kay to become the new race leader.
Strada started from eighth spot and was also advancing into third-place with 10 circuits in the books. Lap 11 saw Strada, a third generation racer, climb to second, as he slipped by Kay and on Lap 12 it was Strada using the high outside lane to race around Davis and become the new leader, as the yellow was waved for Davis spinning out all alone in Turn 4.
“I saw I had a shot going for the lead, there, and the car just stuck on the top,” explained Strada, 19, of Lake Ariel, PA. “First I thought that 15 car (Davis) was going to slide up and pull a slide job on me, but I hit the gas and the car just got away. Later, once I came around under yellow, I saw he was up near the wall and he had just spun out.”
With the new green Strada was off to the races, as he quickly advanced to a full straight-away lead by Lap 16. Three tours later Strada was a full straight-away plus out in front and by Lap 22 he had a full half-lap advantage over the competition. Strada easily won his first career TSRS 305 Sprint Car main over Lutz, Mike Haggenbottom, Tim Tanner Jr. and Tommy Carberry.
Heat races were won by Allen, Haggenbottom and Strada. No consolation was needed.
“Once I got out in front I thought I’d just hit the gas and run the hell out of it,” commented Strada. “I had a shot at racing another race tonight and winning a championship, but I thought coming to run at Grandview Speedway and winning here would mean a lot more.”

46TH ANNUAL FREEDOM 76 MODIFIED CLASSIC OFFERS $25,000 TO WINNER AT GRANDVIEW ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10
TSRS SPRINTS AND SPORTSMAN PLUS MOD PRACTICE FRIDAY, SEPT. 9
BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 4, 2016 . . . Craig VonDohren, Jeff Strunk, Meme DeSantis, Duane Howard and Billy Pauch Sr. have all won the Freedom 76 Modified Classic multiple times and it is quite possible that all of them will be competing for another opportunity to collect the $25,000 first place money when the Granddaddy of area big dollar Modified events is presented.
It all happens this Saturday, September 10 at Grandview Speedway when many of the top names in dirt track Modified stock car racing are expected to battle for a starting spot in the 76-lap race and then the win.
Veteran racer Ray Swinehart, a winner in 2005, will be looking to win the event for the second time as he leads a wide array of racing talent searching to take the win in the prestigious event.
Garden State racing talents Ryan Godown, Mark Pishock and Billy Pauch Jr. top a list of visitors that are expected.
Billy Pauch Sr. leads all the winners with six victories while VonDohren and Strunk have five wins. VonDohren won his first Freedom 76 in 1985.
Racing will get the green flag at 7 p.m. with a number of qualifying events, consolation races, Schaeffer Motorsports Minuteman 20, $1,000 to win Cash Dash leading up to the 76-lapper.
Advance ticket holders will be admitted at 3 p.m. with the ticket windows open at 3:30 p.m. Adult tickets are priced at $40 while youngsters 6 through 11 pay $10. Kids under 6 are admitted FREE.

Rain date is Saturday, September 17th.
On Friday night (September 9) the popular TSRS 305 Sprints will be in action along with the Sportsman stock cars. The Sprints, led by champion Mike Haggenbottom, will top their part of the show with a 25 lap feature while the Sportsman racers will run in a 38 lap main event. In addition the Modifieds taking part in the Saturday racing action will able to practice during the Friday night show.
Adult admission is priced at $12 while young people, 6 through 11, are admitted for $5. Kids under 6 are admitted Free. This is no rain date for the Friday show.
The next scheduled event at Grandview Speedway is Sunday, September 25th with Enduro racing and Blast from the Past Vintage racers in action. It all gets underway at noon. Adult admission is $10.

MANMILLER, TODOROW AND PAPIEZ WIN WNPV-1440AM RADIO NIGHT FEATURES ON SATURDAY
VONDOHREN, SCHUTZ AND HENN CROWNED POINT CHAMPIONS
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. SEPTEMBER 4, 2016 . . . Popular veteran racer Doug Manmiller has been grinding all year long in the T.P. Trailers 358 Modified class at Grandview Speedway. He lost his ride with the Dave Zubikowski No. 00 mid-season, then debuted his own mount and still struggled. He finally teamed up with Jason and Theresa Miller and after that things began to gel for the new team. Shut out of victory lane since August 30, 2014, the Shoemakersville, PA talent finally got the monkey off his back Saturday night. He was in fourth on the 22nd lap, shot past Ryan Grim and John Willman and proceeded to dive between a lapped car and underneath leader Justin Grim to take over the lead on the 23rd lap. He kept everyone at bay behind him the remainder of the race to win his first 30-lap Modified feature of the season behind the wheel of the Lee Miller Auto Sales No. 44M, in the event sponsored by WNPV-1440 AM radio. He also collected $250 from T.P. Trailers plus $150 in VP products for running gas.
Steve Todorow took over the driving reigns of the No. 93 NASCAR Late Model normally chauffeured by his dad Rick at mid-season. The team had their share of ups and downs, but he finally had Lady Luck on his side and was able to hold off five-time feature winner and two-time point champion Brian Shuey to win his first-ever career 25-lap BRC Late Model feature and pick up an additional $100 from T.P. Trailers.
It was Brian Papiez at the head of the pack for his fourth NASCAR 25-lap Sportsman feature win as he took the lead from Paul Kline and then held off the challenges of Mike Lisowski for the triumph in which he collected an additional $100 from T.P. Trailers.
The biggest winners of the evening were the three newly crowned 2016 Point Champions. Craig VonDohren won his ninth NASCAR T.P. Trailers Modified title with 4509 points over runner-up Mike Gular. It was championship No. 8 for Chuck Schutz in the BRC NASCAR Late Model division who finished with 3683 points ahead of Wayne Pfeil. In the NASCAR Sportsman class Jordan Henn captured his first champion with 3078 points over runner-up Mike Lisowski.
The season was one of the most competitive in years at the Bechtelsville, PA oval with 26 different drivers winning features.
Coming up on Friday, September 9th, 7 p.m. the TSRS 305 Sprints along with the Sportsman stock cars in a doubleheader show topped by a 38-lap feature for the Sportsman. Modifieds will also be allowed practice time.
And on Saturday, September 10th, 7 p.m. the biggest event of the season takes place with the running of the $25,000 to win 46th Annual Freedom 76 Modified Classic featuring many of the top names in dirt track Modified stock car racing.
It took several cautions before the Modifieds could string consecutive green flag laps together, but once they did Justin Grim was leading the 28-car starting grid trailed by John Willman, Kory Fleming, Ryan Grim and Ray Swinehart.
Manmiller joined the thick of the battle as he advanced into fourth on the fifth circuit.
Lap-after-lap the order continued to be J. Grim, Willman, R. Grim, Manmiller and Swinehart with neither one giving an inch. Trying to break into the top five were Fleming and Frank Cozze.
By the 21st lap the slower-moving cars entered the picture and the front runners had to use heads up defensive driving.
As the head of the pack came out of turn four to complete lap 23, Manmiller made a very daring maneuver. He went from fourth past the others and then proceeded to shoot between the leader and a lap car to take control of first.
Cautions were needed once Manmiller was in front and positions behind him constantly changed, but he made sure he was always first as the laps clicked off at the drop of the checkered he claimed a well-deserved 24th career win. Chasing him across were R. Grim, Cozze, Willman and Jeff Strunk. Rounding out the top ten were last week’s feature winner Duane Howard, Kevin Hirthler, who started dead last; Kenny Gilmore, Mike Gular and Craig VonDohren.
Heats were won by Brett Kressley, Manmiller and R. Grim.
Steve Todorow set the pace for two laps in the Late Model feature before the red was thrown when Joe Fanelli hit the backstretch wall with heavy impact and almost flipped. He was uninjured, but the car was badly damaged. When action resumed Todorow was still in front behind chased by Shuey, Dan Green, Bill Henning and Schutz.
Green relinquished third on the fourth lap when he spun in the second turn for the fourth lap caution. It was still Todorow running the high lane being pressured by Shuey on the inside. Shuey made several advances, but to no avail and Todorow pulled away.
The lead never changed and Todorow was victorious being followed by Shuey, Henning, Schutz and Ron Kline.
Shuey and Todorow were the heat winners.
Rookie B.J. Joly led the first six laps of the Sportsman feature before a multi-car fourth turn accident brought out the yellow. On the restart Papiez charged into first while Joly, Jack Butler, Kline and Lisowski diced for second through fifth.
Derrick Smith slowed his pace along the homestretch for the ninth lap caution period. This time when action went green again Paul Kline stormed into the lead.
Papiez just regained the lead on the 15th lap when Dylan Swinehart slowed in turn four.
Kline, Lisowski, Henn and Ken Eckert Jr. jockeyed for positions while Papiez held onto first.
Lisowski took over second on the 18th lap restart which was needed when Brad Arnold broke along the backstretch. Lisowski made several bids for first, but was unsuccessful.
Papiez kept everyone at bay to collect another win in his Grandview rookie season at the drop of the checkered. Second went to Lisowski followed by Kline, Henn and Ryan Lilick.
Kyle Lilick, Ryan Higgs and Kenny Bock won the heats. The consolation went to Joe Funk III.

BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 29, 2016 . . . The banquet scheduled for November 19th celebrating the 54th anniversary of Grandview Speedway has been canceled.
As most are aware track promoter Bruce Rogers suffered serious injuries as a result of an auto accident in Daytona Beach, Florida back in January. After a long stay in the hospital Rogers is now at home and does need constant care as he continues his recovery.
With that in mind, knowing the amount of time and effort needed to prepare for the annual banquet, the Rogers family has decided it is best for Bruce and the family to take a year off from presenting a banquet.
“It just would not be the same without him (Bruce) being there,” said track spokesperson Tina Rogers. “The banquet has always been a highlight of each year for my dad so if he can’t be there we will hold off on banquets until he can be part of it.”
Point fund checks from the track will be sent in November and NASCAR will send their point fund checks, as usual, in December.
“We appreciate the understanding of the situation by all involved with the racing at Grandview,” Tina continued. “We will be looking forward to the 55th anniversary banquet and my father being part of it.”
