By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
As the summer sunshine continues to capture the beautiful scenic Pocono Mountain landscape, the drivers and crews of a special breed of racers continue to compete and put on great shows at the Hamlin Speedway and Saturday night was no exception. Promoters Denise and Randy Smith offered another fabulous edition of the 2016 racing season at Hamlin and the talented roster of drivers once again displayed their daredevil, race to the walls brand of racing excitement. A large crowd was on hand to witness the show as close to one hundred racers came to do battle on Saturday evening. Unfortunately, a quick hitting thunderstorm brought a sudden end to the racing activity after six events were completed and the remaining All Star Slingshot feature will be the first event on the speedway on September 9th. The six feature card was once again presented by S&S Speedways Indoor Go Karts located in Snydersville, Pennsylvania.
When the final scorecards were tallied it was "The Oxford Express" Dale Kober getting back in the win column in the Super Slinger finale. Damon Paul continues to raise the bar as he sped to his fourth win of the season in the Hampton RV and Trailer Stage One Modified Division. "Bad" Chad Sandt utilized all of the speedway real estate to capture his fourth win of the season in the Wingless 600 Sprint main. Paul Richards Jr added another notch to his gun belt with his seventh win of the season in the Winged 270 Sprint main. Jared Silfee was in the zone as he raced to his fourth win of the season at Hamlin in the Junior Slingshot finale. "The Mac Attack" Mack Brink was spot on as he sped to his second victory of the season in the Rookie Wingless 600 feature event.
The six feature events were all excellent runs and the "stars of tomorrow" Junior Slingshot drivers continue to excel with each turn of the steering wheel even though it was a short field taking the green on Saturday night. JJ Rice jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag but a three car jingle in turn three brought the field to a halt and eliminated three cars from the fray. On the restart it would be Rice leading for two laps but yielding to a high flying Jared Silfee on lap three. Silfee attacked the race track as he quickly sped away from the rest of the field. Hunter Lapp kept pace throughout but Silfee proved to have the hot hand on this evening of racing and would earn his fourth win of the season. Lapp, who also earned runner-up honors on Tuesday evening at the Reading Fairgrounds, added another runner-up finish to his expanding racing resume. Cole Stangle was third with JJ Rice in fourth and Emily Fleming fifth.
Damon Paul raced into the lead in turn two at the start of the Hampton RV and Trailer Stage One Modified main event. That would be the only move he needed as he controlled the point and the incoming storm that was about to hit the speedway grounds. The race would be called after 15-laps as a completed feature as in a matter of seconds the racetrack would be awash with a major storm hitting the area. Damon Paul was the winner with 69 year old Will Casazza doing great work in the runner-up role. Bill Dianella was third while Charlie Bodine and Cole Stangle completed the top five. Chloe Andreas, Janell Geary, Joel Smith and Evan Civick completed the field.
The rookie 600 Sprint feature found Brett Altemose hustling out front at the start of the event. Altemose was very good at the top of the raceway and withstood the early pressure from Noah Zielinski. Mack Brink found his way forward and slipped past Zielinski to assume the runner-up role and then began to pressure Altemose with some amazing runs off of the baseline of the speedway. On lap-17, Altemose would jump the cushion in turns one and two and allowed Brink to gain control of the lead. Brink would earn his second win of the season. The rest of the field scrambled at the end as Altemose slid out of the groove and Jakson Ring and Geordan Marrero would get by him for second and third. Altemose would finish fourth in a great run and Zielinski would round out the top five. The second five was headed up by newcomer Scott Myers with Tyler Galatro, newcomer Jared Lilly, the returning Jerry Rutledge and Cody Powell completing the top ten.
The 270 Sprint headliner found "Deuce" Glenn Macomber getting the jump on the field when the green flag was displayed. The event settled into a high speed chase as Paul Richards Jr began to chase Macomber around the speedway. Kyle Ferrucci slipped off the pace with problems in lap nine. On lap-13, Richards made the move of the evening as Macomber slipped past a slower car rolled a bit high on the speedway allowing Richards to also slip past the slower car and dive under Macomber to take control of the point. Once in front, Richards opened up a wide margin went on to capture the win with Macomber second, Randy Gombert third and Stephen Weirich fourth.
Super Slinger action found Steve Pirone getting the jump on the field at the start of the event. Pirone would lead the first four laps until Dale Kober found the inside line open and made a dash for the lead. Once in front, Kober was able to race to daylight while ten-time winner in 2016 Wes Hearn was locked in a battle with the returning Roger Collins and then Steve Pirone. Kober built up a huge lead and drove away to his second win of the season with Hearn making a valiant effort to land in the runner-up role. Pirone had a great outing in third while Collins and steady Jim Conroy rounded out the top five. Jeff Haduck, newcomer Mike Taylor and Ron Jablonka made up the remainder of the field.
The 600 Wingless Sprint main found Saylorsburg resident Chad Sandt driving to daylight at the drop of the green flag. Dylan Martin kept pace early on before he gave way to Danny Buccafusca. Buccafusca threw all he had at Sandt but soon had to contend with Brandon Azzalina as he worked the top of the raceway to perfection to make it a three car battle. Azzalina dogged Buccafusca until he made a clean pass to slip past him. Sandt withstood the heavy pressure from Azzalina for the last five laps to capture his fourth win of the season. Azzalina, Buccafusca, JD Casazza in a great run and Joel Smith completed the top five. Ryan Quackenbush headed up the second five with Mick D'Agostino, Mike Myers, Zac Azzalina and Mike Van Pelt completing the top ten.
PEARL JAMS:
Heat racing action at Hamlin continued to fuel the fires that make Hamlin Speedway the place to be on Saturday nights as Jerry Rutledge and Scott Myers were victorious in the Rookie 600 Sprint heat events. One heat was required for the Stage One Modifieds with Damon Paul securing the win. Jared Silfee captured the heat win for the Junior Slingers. Chad Sandt and Dylan Martin captured the two heats in the Wingless 600 Sprints and captured heat number two. Two rounds of heats were need to establish the starting lineup for the All Star Slingshots and capturing heat wins were Austin Silfee, Ashley Kober and Josh Marcus in the first round while Chris Kurtz, Brett Bieber and Mike McLaughlin were victorious in the second round.
The Super Slingers ran time trials with Dale Kober holding the hot hand at 14.302 seconds. Paul Richards was top timer in the 270 Sprints as he stopped the clocks at 11.820 seconds.
Newcomers or returning racers to the Hamlin Speedway scene for the Saturday night racing action included Tommy Stillo in the Junior Slingshots. Roger Collins returned to the speedway for the first time since his harrowing backstretch accident a few weeks ago and was solid throughout the evening in his return to action. Mike Taylor was a newcomer in both the Super Slingers and the All Stars. Randy Gombert was back in action in the 270 Sprints. Pat Bealer, who picked up a win last week in the 270 Sprints, had a 600 Sprint on hand to do battle and was strong until he encountered some problems late in the feature. Janell Geary returned to action in the Stage One Modifieds. The Rookie 600 Sprints were filled out with Jared Lilly, Jerry Rutledge, Cody Powell and David Trego, all new faces in recent weeks. Dylan Hoch, Anthony Raisner, Henry Anderson, Joe Toth and Sarah Bohlin were new additions to the All Star Slingshots.
A new PA system was installed for the racing action and still needs a few tweaks that retired racer Tex Snyder will help iron out in the upcoming weeks. Tex still has his race equipment for sale at reasonable prices and has an ad up on microracing.com.
Randy Smith had the speedway in great shape for the evening of speed and three and four wide action in the heat events was commonplace.
"The Flying Dutchman" Richie Van Orden was taking in the show and the former track record holder in the Slingshots is preparing for some Sportsman racing at OCFS and Accord Speedways.
The speedway paid their final respects to Bryan Clauson, who passed way last Sunday evening at the age of 27. The Bullet was a guest on the Gasoline Alley TV show five times that was hosted by Ed and Steve Pados.
The speedway will be dark next week to allow our racing families to enjoy some quality time off from the rigors of racing. The speedway will return to action on August 27th with a full seven division show of racing excitement, highlighted by a special event for the Wingless 600 Sprints.

By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Hamlin Speedway Promoters Randy and Denise Smith have been tortured by the whims of Mother Nature all season long but on Saturday evening had the good fortune to withstand an afternoon shower and be able to host another excellent night of racing action for the large crowd on hand. Randy Smith and crew had the Hamlin Speedway in tip-top racing form as the stars and cars of the speedway rocked the house with their special brand of racing excitement and theatrics. More than one hundred racers were on hand for the nine feature event racing card and was wrapped up by 10:30 PM. The only drawback to an excellent evening of racing was the fact the PA System was struck by lightning on Friday and rendered it inoperable for the evening. When the good lord says silence, He means it! The evening of speed was sponsored by S&S Speedways Indoor Go Karts located in Snydersville, Pennsylvania
Heading up the list of winners on Saturday evening included "Bad" Chad Sandt as he raced his Ron Sandt Motorsports sponsored racer to his third win of the season in a fierce drive to the front spectacular in the Wingless 600 Sprint competition. Additional winners included Justin Hartz and Geordan Marrero as they each captured wins in the Rookie 600 Sprints. "The Ambassador" Wes Hearn continued on with his "Summer of Wes Tour" as the veteran star captured a double, winning both the All Star Slingshot feature and also adding his tenth Super Slinger win for the season and it is the second time this season Hearn has been able to accomplish the feat. Cole Stangle scored his fifth Hamlin Speedway win in the Junior Slingshot finale. "The Icon" Pat Bealer returned to action with brand new race car and quickly wired the field in his first event back in the 270 Sprint headliner. Damon Paul was throttle quick and led all of the way to score his third victory in the exciting Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified main. Olivia Mease stepped away from her duties in the tower to climb back into a race car and dominate the action to score the Powder Puff victory
The evening of feature attractions found Wes Hearn rocketing out front at the start of the Super Slinger finale. Hearn reeled off some quick times to gain some advantage but Dale Kober and Donny Hockman had their own battle going and the three drivers stepped away from the rest of the field. Hearn would earn his tenth win of the season with Kober and Hockman following. Jim Conroy and the returning Greg Zellman completed the top five. Steve Pirone, Ryan Lacoe, Ron Jablonka and the returning Carl Bittenbender completed the field.
The Junior Slingshot twenty lap headliner found Cole Stangle and Hunter Lapp battling it out at the start with Stangle winning the point to lead the way. "TVD" Tanner Van Doren entered the battle quickly and behind him came Jared Silfee. The budding stars provided some great racing action throughout the twenty lap run as the racing was fast and tight and the action was superb. Cole Stangle would lead all of the way to gain the victory with Lapp close behind, Silfee gaining third late in the race and Van Doren was fourth and showing no fear to find the fastest outside line of the speedway. Ty Kelly completed the top five. Shelby McLaughlin headed up the rest of the field with Emily Fleming, JJ Rice, James Hendricks, Austin Homan and James Costlow following.
The 20-lap headliner for the All Star Slingshot racers proved to be a barn burner right from the start with equal cars and stars making up the first three rows of competition. Wes Hearn seized the lead at the start of the event, was able to handle the hot-heat placed on him by Brett Bieber, Taylor Mills, Russell Benke, Alan Selemba and Tyler Peet. The intense racing behind that six-some was something to behold as well as each driver had his own visions of how the final outcome would play out. Hearn zipped off some 13.6 second laps to keep everyone aware of the fact he was in the lead and he would cross the finish line just ahead of Bieber, Benke, Taylor Mills, and Peet. Alan Selemba was sixth followed by Tyler Pirone, Dale Kober, Matt Henneforth, and Justin Mills. Even with another Tour event going on at another facility, the roster of talent at Hamlin proved to be second to none when it come to putting on a great show.
"The Wild Child" Geordan Marrero jumped into the lead in the first Rookie 600 Sprint event. Marrero was quick and lead all laps to gain his third win of the season. Brett Altemose kept pace throughout the event but settled for second with newcomer Scott Myers, Paul Richards Jr and Noah Zielinski completing the top five and Mack Brink, Tony Parlanti and Savannah Leggio following.
The second Rookie 600 Sprint event was a challenging affair as Mikey Smith led the first eight laps until he and a slower car made contact. The bump allowed Joe Howey to slip past Smith for the lead and Howey would lead until lap 15 when he made contact with a slower car and disabled his racer. Justin Hartz became the new leader and led the remainder of the event to claim his second win of the season. Jakson Ring, Jacob Balliet, Tim Bauer and Jr Williams completed the top five with Joe Nemeth, newcomers David Trego and Jared Lilly following.
"The Rockaway Rocket" Danny Buccafusca led the first two laps of laps the Wingless 600 Sprint main but would yield the top spot to the high flying "Quack Attack" Ryan Quackenbush on lap three. Quackenbush was hammer down as he led the way but working the cushion to perfection was "Bad" Chad Sandt and he began to reel in Quackenbush with some 12.249 second laps. Sandt made a successful bid for the lead on lap seven took control of the point. The race was far from over as Buccafusca was back on the attack from the baseline and pulled event with Sandt on occasion only to have Sandt execute the use of the cushion to perfection to maintain his advantage. Sandt would race to his third win of the season with Buccafusca in the runner-up scenario. "The Travelin Man" Mick D'Agostino came back from a first lap spin to nail down third place in an excellent drive for the New Englander. "Thrillin" Dylan Martin finally had his new Mark Gray Automotive sponsored mount working to perfection and drove from 18th starting place to finish fourth. JD Casazza started in 15th place and enjoyed a fine drive to complete the top five. The second five found the returning Nick Corazzi (from 16th), Johnny Smith (from 19th), Ryan Neil, Brandon Azzalina and Joel Smith.
Pat Bealer grabbed the lead out of the starting blocks and raced his recently completed Neff's Construction sponsored mount to his second win of the season. Paul Richards Jr kept pace as the runner-up with Kyle Ferrucci, Stephen Weirich and Glenn Macomber following.
Damon Paul controlled the Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified encounter from the first lap on with "The Nickel Man" Joel Smith mirroring his every move for the entire 20-lap distance. Paul had enough steam to win in a close margin over Smith, "The Sunshine Gypsy" Charlie Bodine, Will Casazza, and Bill Dianella. Cole Stangle, Caitlin Henneforth, Evan Civick and Chloe Andreas completed the field.
Wendy Guest led the first lap of the fifteen lap Powder Puff encounter. After that it was all Olivia Mease as the former Quarter Midget star took over the lead on the second lap and reeled off some impressive times under the 14 second barrier to go on and capture the win. Guest was the runner-up and Lori Carper was third. Karen Mirabelli and Donna Jablonka both encountered problems before the green flag and were forced from competition.
PEARL JAMS:
Randy Smith kept pace with the speedway all night long as the track remained super smooth all evening long. A couple of short intermission sessions were all that was needed to manicure the speedway surface for the competitors. Short track racing is close competition at its finest and the drivers were negotiating the tight quarters of the Hamlin Speedway in two, three, four and occasional five wide fashion for most of the evening.
A series of time trials were held for two of the racing divisions and quick time for the All Star Slingshots was Justin Mills at 14.271 seconds as he narrowly defeated Tess Horvath at 14.298 and Tyler Peet at 14.196. Rookie 600 Sprint times found Geordan Marrero tops at 12.216 over Brett Altemose who timed at 12.455 seconds.
Heat racing action in the Stage One Modifieds found Damon Paul claiming the win. 600 Sprint heat wins went to Sam Kravitsky and Chad Sandt. Dale Kober was the quick man in claiming the heat race win for the Super Slingers. The 270 Sprint heat went to Pat Bealer. Junior Slingshot heats were claimed by "The Hurricane" Hunter Lapp and Cole Stangle.
Mike Jablonka escaped injury in his heat event when he got upside down on the backstretch in a scramble of a few cars.
Donny Hockman gave the Tess Horvath ride a great drive with a third place finish in the Super Slingers and it was great to see him back in the seat. Austin Homan returned to action in the Junior Slingshots. Justin Mills was back with his 600 Sprint with the new graphics and the car looked great but unfortunately was the first out in one of the Rookie 600 Sprint mains. Matt Massone was back in action as he borrowed the Ryan Lacoe mount for the evening. Louie Horvath borrowed Tony Parlanti's Brew House sponsored mount for the evening.
Newcomers to the Hamlin scene included Scott Myers who looked strong in one of the Rookie features with a third place finish. David Trego was a new addition to the Rookie 600 Sprint ranks as he purchased the former AJ Hobbs race car. Jared Lilly made his first appearance at the speedway in the Rookie 600 Sprints. Jason Van Doren returned to action in the Ray Merli owned hot rod. Mike and Alex Van Pelt also returned to the Hamlin scene. Evan Civick returned to action in the Stage One Modifieds.
It was a tough week for the Smith Family as the water retention pond was breached with the heavy torrential rains that fell in the area. To make matters worse was the faulty PA system. A promoter's work is never done. Kudos to staff members who tried in vain to restore the system to sound.
Retired racer Tex Snyder was a spectator last evening and told of his long journey to Alaska recently, roughly 9,600 miles. Retired racer Dale Reed and his wife Heather took in the show last night and it was great to see them back at the speedway.
Good luck from the Hamlin Speedway management and staff to all of the racers who are in competing in Speed Weeks. For the 12th consecutive season Ed and Steve Pados and their Gasoline Alley Group will be supporting the Reading Fairgrounds Racing Historical Society with some great support from many of their good friends in racing.
Thanks to all of the great Hamlin fans for understanding the matter at hand.

For One Week, The Hamlin Speedway Was The Silent "Pearl" In The Poconos
HAMLIN SPEEDWAY NEWS

By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
The Northeastern area of Pennsylvania has run the gamut for some very unpredictable weather in 2016 and this past week was no exception to the rule. Hot muggy weather that reached into the nineties truly tested the hearts and souls of the racers and the loyal fan bases who live for the spectacle of speed and support the speedway. Promoter Randy Smith and crew had the Hamlin Speedway racing surface whipped into impeccable condition and another spectacular racing program was presented to a good sized crowd who brave the heat to witness the best of the best in small car division racing perform at the top level of competition. The stars and cars of the speedway produced their own kind of heat through close side by side racing, slide-jobs and dicing through the pack to provide for a great evening of racing excitement. The final checkered flag waved at 9:27 PM. The evening of speed was presented by S&S speedways Indoor Go Karts located in Snydersville, Pennsylvania.
Some familiar faces were all smiles back in the Hamlin victory circle. "The A-Team" Brandon Azzalina found his way back into victory lane with a wire to wire triumph that saw him earn his third win of the season in the 600 Sprint finale. "The Bloomingburg Bullet" Taylor Mills was a bullet from the word go as he raced to his first win in the All Star Slingshot finale. Tim Bauer used "Bauer Power" to hustle to his second consecutive win in the Rookie 600 Sprint headliner. Paul Richards Jr was spot on as he claimed his sixth win of the season in the Wingless 270 Sprint feature attraction. Cole Stangle captured his fourth win of the season in the Junior Slingshot feature and second in succession. "The Ambassador" Wes Hearn captured his ninth win of the season in the Super Slingers. "The Nickel Man" Joel Smith utilized a fast hot rod race to win his second feature event of the season in the Hampton RV And Trailers Sales Stage One Modified main.
The evening of feature main events once saw an exciting Junior Slingshot twenty lap headliner that found Cole Stangle take off from his outside pole start and quickly found Hunter Lapp, Jared Silfee and Shelby McLaughlin applying the early pressure. Stangle was able to dial in some fast laps to move out to a four car length lead with second place up in the air until the end of the event. A banzai move late in the race from JJ Rice shuffled the deck as he made contact with Hunter Lapp and it shook Lapp loose and Lapp did a great job of holding on to the race car but lost valuable real estate in the process. Cole Stangle raced to the win with Silfee in second, McLaughlin in third, Rice in fourth and Adam Buchel completing the top five. Lapp recovered nicely to finish sixth with Ty Kelly, Tanner VanDoren, newcomer Tanner Jones, Emily Fleming and James Hendricks completing the field.
The 20-lap headliner for the All Star Slingshot racers found intense racing throughout the field and as always the event proved to be another classic run in the pages of the Hamlin Speedway history book. Taylor Mills utilized his pole start to his advantage for at the drop of the green flag he blasted into the lead and was banging out consistent 13.5 second laps to open up a small advantage over the field. "Magic Shoes" Mike McLaughlin was second for a good portion of the event but gave way to Russell Benke and Wes Hearn. As the laps clicked off, Mills was more than up to the task as he never waivered and went on to claim his first career victory in the All Star Slingshots. Benke was second with Hearn in third, Brett Bieber fourth and Chris Kurtz in fifth after starting in 12th position. McLaughlin headed up the second five with Alan Selemba, Tyler Peet, Dale Kober and Austin Silfee completing the top ten. 17 of the 21 starters completed all of the laps in the fast paced event.
Brandon Azzalina grabbed the lead at the start of the Wingless 600 Sprint main with Ryan Quackenbush, Danny Buccafusca and Sam Kravitsky applying the pressure. A small skirmish had Quackenbush getting turned around by Kravitsky and both cars went to the back of the bus for the restart. From seventh starting spot came "Bad" Chad Sandt as Sandt took the road less traveled as he heaved his racer to the to outer reaches of the speedway and began his assault to the front of the field. Sandt moved his racer into second place and began to close quickly on Azzalina who was working the baseline to perfection. Another caution slowed the pace and on the restart Azzalina made the move to work his magic at the top of the raceway and turned some fast 12.173 times to step away from the field and go on capture his third win of the season. Sandt was masterful in a fine runner-up drive with Buccafusca third, Joel Smith fourth and Joseph Smith completing the top five. Sam Kravitsky made a great recovery to race back to sixth with Rick Calvert, JD Casazza, newcomer Mike Myers and Mick D'Agostino completing the top ten.
Louden Reimert was quick to establish command of the point in the early going of the Wingless 270 Sprint encounter. Paul Richards Jr dogged him early and remained close and a bobble by Reimert out of turn four on lap nine was the move Richards was seeking as he moved his racer underneath Reimert to seize the lead. Once in front, Richards raced away to his sixth win of the season. Reimert enjoyed a great run for second with newcomer Jonathan Swift third, Randy Gombert fourth and Stephen Weirich and Glenn Macomber completing the field.
The Super Slinger shootout was another superb run for Wes Hearn as he blistered the speedway with consistent 13.2 second laps to step away from the field and go on to claim his ninth win of the season. Dale Kober was a strong runner-up with Steve Pirone, Ryan Lacoe and Jimmy Conroy completing the field.
Joel Smith controlled the Hampton RV & Trailer Sales Stage One Modified encounter at the start of the event and he enjoyed a non-contested run to the checkered flag to claim his second win of the season. Damon Paul raced to a fine second place finish with Chloe Andreas third, Charlie Bodine fourth, Michael Samony fifth and Bill Dianella sixth.
Jacob Balliet grabbed the lead in the Rookie 600 Sprint main and led the first nine laps until problems sidelined him from the event. Jakson Ring inherited the lead but before another lap could be scored Tim Bauer overtook him and Bauer would hustle away from the field to go on and claim his second consecutive win at the speedway. Ring was second with Geordan Marrero third, Mack Brink fourth and Joe Howey completing the top five. Newcomer Mike Myers headed up the second five followed by Noah Zielinski, Tony Parlanti, Kyle Exley and Brett Altemose.
PEARL JAMS:
Randy Smith kept pace with the speedway all night long as some short intermission sessions were needed to add some moisture into the speedway surface. The great track conditions created some excellent short track racing competition at its finest and the drivers were negotiating the racing channels of the Hamlin Speedway in two and three wide fashion for much of the evening.
A series of time trials were held for Wingless 600 Sprints and Sam Kravitsky posted the top time with a 12.366 second lap nipping Danny Buccafusca who times 12.396. The Junior Slingshots also timed and Jared Silfee posted the top time with a 14.182 clocking just ahead of the 14.343 second lap of Hunter Lapp.
A series heat events were in place for the All Star Slingshots and heat wins were recorded by Russell Benke, Wes Hearn and Mike McLaughlin. The 270 Sprint heat found Louden Reimert in victory lane. Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint heats were captured by Jacob Balliet and Jakson Ring. Wes Hearn captured the lone Super Slinger heat. Cole Stangle was victorious in the Stage One Modified heat event.
Some newcomers tested the Hamlin facility with Junior Slingshot driver Tanner Jones making his first start. Mike Myers and Matthew Swift were new additions to the 600 Sprints. Jonathan Swift made his first 2016 Hamlin start in the 270 Sprints. Scott Myers was a new addition to the Rookie 600 Sprints.
"The Sandman" Troy Langendoerfer was walking the grounds looking for a ride. He is hoping to return to action very shortly.
Announcer Steve Pados introduced his brother Ed to the crowd and engaged in a short interview with him regarding the upcoming Slingshot Speed weeks that will end at Hamlin with many stops in between including the Reading Nostalgia Nationals at the new Reading Fairgrounds. Ed Pados and his brother Steve have collected sponsors for the event going on twelve years now and are hoping some new sponsors can come on board for the next upcoming event. Any interested parties who want to get involved can contact Ed at: 610-739-0391. In the interview, Ed thanked for the Smith Family for their hospitality and for their long support of the Reading event.
Longtime friend "The Other" Billy Decker took in the show and is another who holds the Hamlin Speedway in high regards.
Young racer Alex Yankowski tried his hand at announcing at Hamlin and did a good job considering it was his first event to do so. Alex admitted it was much harder than it seems but he is looking forward to his next outing at the speedway.
Upcoming events on the Hamlin racing calendar include a regular show on July 30th which will include the NASCAR Crew Challenge. The first event was rained out so the Crew Guys will be looking to put on a good show as the winner will be seeking bragging rights in the NASCAR Garage area. The Hamlin Speedway Is The "Pearl" In The Poconos
HAMLIN SPEEDWAY NEWS
Posted by: | CommentsHamlin, PA - Cole Stangle Scores Big With Two Victories In Exciting Hamlin Speedway Racing Action
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
The beautiful warm summer weather of the Pocono Mountains was the perfect backdrop for an evening of speed presented by Hamlin Speedway Promoters Randy and Denise Smith. Getting back on track after suffering the fourth rainout of the season a week ago, the speedway was primed and in impeccable condition for the stars of the speedway to ignite the standing room only crowd. The evening ran off in machine gun like fashion and the last feature was completed by 10:30. More than one hundred talented race car drivers came to Hamlin on Saturday to ply their trade and when the final curtain came down it would be some newcomers plus some familiar names at the speedway rising to the top of the heap in the coveted Victory Circle.
One of the up and coming young stars in motorsports, Cole Stangle earned two wins on Saturday night as he captured the Hampton RV And Trailer Sales Stage One Modified win and then backed that up with a win in the Junior Slingshot division. "The Oxford Express" Dale Kober scored his first win of the season in the Super Slinger finale topping Wes Hearn who came into the event with eight straight victories in the division. "Kid Wicked" Tyler Pirone enjoyed a solid win in the All Star Slingshot main event narrowly defeating Chris Kurtz. "Bad" Chad Sandt made it two consecutive wins in the 600 Sprint main with a close win over Joel Smith. Paul Richards Jr added his fifth win of the season in the 270 Sprint main. "The Young Rustler" Jacob Balliet earned his second win of the season in one of the Rookie 600 Sprint mains and Allentown's Tim Bauer was spot on in winning his first Rookie 600 Sprint feature event.
The parade of eight feature runs for the evening began with the Stage One Modifieds. Cole Stangle grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag and that move proved to be the hot ticket as he led all twenty laps to capture his first Stage One Modified feature win. Damon Paul put tons of pressure on early in the event and then faced a stiff challenge from Joel Smith but managed to hold off Smith for runner-up honors while Smith settled for third. Bill Dianella was fourth and Chloe Andreas rounded out the top five. Will Casazza, Caitlin Henneforth, Charlie Bodine, Janell Geary and Michael Samony completed the field.
Dale Kober left nothing to chance as he jumped out front at the start of the Super Slinger feature, held off a stiff challenge from Wes Hearn early on and then cruised away to his first win of the season. Hearn was runner-up with the returning Greg Zellman finishing third, Steve Pirone fourth and John Mirabelli completing the top five. Ryan Lacoe, Mike Jablonka, Jim Conroy and Jeff Haduck completed the field.
The winged warriors of the 270 Sprint division moved onto the speedway for their feature attraction. Paul Richards Jr has owned the division in 2016 and he took off at the drop of the green flag and would lead all of the way in claiming his fifth win of the season. Glenn Macomber enjoyed a solid run to earn runner-up honors with Kyle Ferrucci third and newcomers Randy Gombert and Steve Weirich completing the field.
The "stars of tomorrow" in the Junior Slingshot division continued to put on another great show as "TVD" Tanner Van Doren led the first two laps before yielding to "The Hurricane" Hunter Lapp who would lead for two more. Cole Stangle made his first bid count as he seized command of the lead on lap five and would go on to win his third Junior Slingshot feature of the season. Lapp finished second with Jared Silfee third, the returning Reese Nowotarski fourth and VanDoren completing the top five. Shelby McLaughlin headed up the second five with Ty Kelly, JJ Rice, Emily Fleming and Jake Mason following.
The first Rookie 600 Sprint main event found Tim Bauer blasting into the lead at the start of the event and he showed his tailpipes to everyone as he cruised the speedway with consistent 12.3 second laps to claim his first ever main event at Hamlin. Jakson Ring kept pace but settled for second place. Kyle Exley made a great charge to finish third with Scott Slater fourth and Jesse James Bartleson completing the top five. "The Highside Hustler" Justin Mills shook down his new ride and finished sixth in the recently completed hot rod. Justin Hartz, Savannah Leggio and Ron Bosga completed the field.
The second Rookie 600 Sprint feature found Jacob Balliet in command from the start. Geordan Marrero kept the pressure on Balliet and took over the lead on lap thirteen but just as quickly came into contact with the slower car of newcomer Cody Powell and Powell went upside down in the incident with the officials placing Marrero to the rear of the field on the restart. Powell was uninjured in the incident. On the restart Balliet took off and raced to his second win of the season. Brett Altemose was second with Joe Howey racing from the rear to grab up third place. Tony Parlanti was fourth and Marrero fought back to complete the top five. Garden State Modified talent Clay Butler made a rare appearance and was sixth in his brother's hot rod. Carmen Leggio Sr was seventh.
The headliner for the All Star Slingshots found the best Slingshot drivers in the country duking it out on the Hamlin Speedway real estate in the MA Gold Tour event. The early going found Tyler Pirone blasting out of the starting blocks to lead the event but knocking on his door came "The Midge" Chris Kurtz as he found a racing channel he liked to pull behind Pirone and the chase was on. The two driving stars dominated the event as they hit slower traffic and Pirone lost the lead momentarily but a caution flag and a revert back to the previous lap put Pirone back up front. Pirone made no more errors as he executed a perfect game plan to remain in front as he scored his first Hamlin win of the season. Kurtz had a great drive for second with the returning Alex Yankowski in third, Dale Kober fourth and Tyler Peet fifth. Mike McLaughlin headed up the second five with Wes Hearn, Matt Henneforth, Austin Silfee and Russell Benke completing the top ten. Brett Bieber, Alan Selemba, Nick Vinciguerra, Josh Marcus and Henry Anderson completed the top fifteen and 19-cars finished all 30-laps of the main event.
Chad Sandt seized command at the start of the 600 Sprint main headliner and zipped off some 12.3 second laps to lead the way but a persistent and hard charging "Nickel Man" Joel Smith kept pace to make it a close fought contest. Sandt would score his second consecutive win with Smith close behind in second. Ryan Quackenbush was smooth as silk to run third with "The Rockaway Rocket" Danny Buccafusca fourth and "The Travelin Man" Mick D'Agostino completing the top five. "The Conductor" Bobby Butler rim rode the speedway for sixth place while JD Casazza, Colin White, Joseph Smith and Ryan Neil completed the top ten.
PEARL JAMS:
Randy Smith had the speedway in great shape and the kept pace with the speedway surface throughout the evening and his hard work made all of the feature events classic stuff in racing channels. A short rain shower halted the racing action for a few minutes and the staff hustled the Junior Slingshots off of the speedway to wait it out. Once the rain ceased about five minutes later the 270 Sprints ran their feature before bringing the youngsters back out to complete their event.
Dale Kober knows the short way around the Hamlin facility and posted the top time in the Super Slingshots with a 14.081 second lap just nipping Roger Collins who went 14.131 seconds. Joel Smith was the quick timer in the Stage One Modifieds with a 12.956 second time.
Two rounds of heat races were needed for the Tour event for the All Star Slingshots and winners of the heats included, Tyler Pirone, Alex Yankowski and Russell Benke in the first round and Tyler Peet, Wes Hearn and Austin Silfee earning victories in the second round. Jacob Balliet, Tim Bauer and Justin Hartz were victorious in the Rookie 600 Sprint heats. The 600 Sprints ran two heats with Joel Smith and Chad Sandt claiming victories. Paul Richards Jr emerged victorious in the 270 Sprint heat event. Junior Slingshot heats were won by Reese Nowotarski and Jared Silfee.
Roger Collins escaped injury when he was pinched into the outside Jersey barrier and executed a series of barrel rolls down the backstretch. Collins was shaken but climbed out of his wounded race car with a wave to the fans.
Some new names were added to the Hamlin roster list last evening with Randy Gombert and Steve Weirich in the 270 Sprints, Clayton Davey, Tom Arntz, Alan Kober, Alex Yankowski and Joe Toth in the All Star Slingshots. Slingers. The Butler Boys, Bobby and Clay, made rare appearances with both performing extremely well. Bobby is a former track champion at Hamlin and it is always great to see him return. Happy birthday wishes go out to Clay Butler as he turns 30 this week. Clay was accompanied to the speedway by his girlfriend former Miss Accord Speedway Loralyn Brinster. The crewchief for Clay Butler is former Lake Mocatek Speedway modified racer Bernie Kelly. Jake Fox was a new addition to the 600 ranks and the veteran Don Colaluce and "The Big Dogg" Steve Reynolds was back in action but Reynolds was slowed by a balky race car.
Matriarch Evelyn Smith was on hand to enjoy the racing action.

The Hamlin Speedway Is The "Pearl" In The Poconos
HAMLIN SPEEDWAY NEWS
Posted by: | CommentsHamlin, PA - Justin Mills Simply Magnificent In Dominating Win In VetStock Firecracker 100 At Hamlin Speedway
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
The Fourth of July weekend found the Hamlin Speedway swinging back into racing action after being dark and silent for a week of rest and relaxation. The hard working promotional team of Denise and Randy Smith was ready for the onslaught of 118 race cars and the standing room only crowd that arrived at the speedway. The management and staff at the Hamlin Speedway put forth a superlative effort and produced another great evening of racing in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. The eight feature card was sponsored by Hollywood Towing from Middletown, New York and the S&S Speedways located in Snydersville, Pennsylvania. The results were spectacular and the fans and drivers put forth a great effort to raise money for the VetStock Veterans Group in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The standing room only crowd witnessed an eight feature event card with the VetStock Firecracker 100 lap feature for the All Star Slingshots being the showcased event of the evening. Bloomingburg, New York resident "The High Side Hustler" Justin Mills was at the top of his game as he dominated the Hollywood Towing & Auto and S&S Speedways sponsored VetStock Firecracker 100 event by leading every lap to capture the more than $1,200.00 in prize money plus contingencies. "Bad" Chad Sandt was flawless in performance as he worked the speedway cushion to perfection in recording his first win of the 2016 season in the Wingless 600 Sprint finale. Jared Silfee made a profound statement as he drove through the field to capture his third win of the season in the Junior Slingshot feature attraction. Former track champion Nunzi Allegrucci returned to Hamlin for the first time in 2016 was all business as he wired the field and roared away to his first win of the season. "The Ambassador" Wes Hearn was in top form as he wired the field on his way to his eighth consecutive win in the Super Slinger feature. "The Wild Child" Geordan Marrero became the first driver in the Rookie 600 Sprints to capture his second win of the season and the second Rookie 600 Sprint feature was captured by first time competitor Lavar Scott as the Carney Point, New Jersey racer led all of the way to claim his first ever Hamlin triumph. "The Nickel Man" Joel Smith was on rails in the last portion of the Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified feature attraction as he overcame the lead of the "Sunshine Gypsy" Charlie Bodine to score his first win of the season. When the racing action was completed, the highs and lows of victory and defeat came to light but for all of the competitors, each and everyone of them should be applauded for their fine efforts on an evening where giving back meant as much as the thrill of victory. The VetStock event headed up by S&S Speedways, Hollywood Towing & Auto, Hamlin Speedway and the Rode Racing, put forth a solid effort that saw a good sum of dollars raised for the locally based charitable organization
Fast timers Justin Mills and Tyler Peet brought the 33-car starting field down for the start of the VetStock Firecracker 100 event. Mills had the hot ticket and was quick and showed it early on by racing out front with a gaggle of hot rodders chasing him down for real estate. Early skirmishes slowed the pace a bit but once the racers found their grooves the results were more than worth the price of an admission ticket as the racing throughout the field was incredible. Mills led through the first fifty laps when a break was taken for the racers to recharge and replenish their race cars. At the end of the first fifty laps it was Mills, Wes Hearn, Brett Bieber, Dale Kober and Chris Kurtz being shown as the top five.
As the race restarted for the second fifty, it was Mills again racing out front with Hearn faltering a bit and Brett Bieber making his bid to win the event. Samantha Muller, who was running ninth, had some problems under the hood of her racer ending her fine efforts for the evening. The jockeying for position behind Mills was incredible but each time a burst of speedway from Mills allowed him to remain at the top of the heap. Mills got very close to a track record as he clicked off a 13.076 lap to challenge closely the one lap mark of 13.024 set two years ago by Trevor LaBagh. Mills was in the zone as he was consistent with his strong lap times that ranged from his fast time of 13.076 to the 13.250 mark. Bieber and Kober also turned up the wick as they were turning laps in the 13.2 to 13.4 range.
There was no stopping Mills in this great run for the roses as he raced to a sweet and rewarding win over Brett Bieber, Dale Kober, Tyler Pirone and Mike McLaughlin. Sixth through tenth were Wes Hearn, Russell Benke, Chris Kurtz, Kyle Herve and Josh Marcus. David Burns, Nick Vinciguerra, Tyler Peet, Ryan Neiger and Roger Collins completed the top fifteen.
Seventeen drivers completed all 100 laps of the event.
In 270 Sprint action, the returning Nunzi Allegrucci grabbed the lead at the opening bell and led all of the way to capture his first victory at Hamlin in quite some time.through the first seven laps. Brittany Erlsten found a fast seam on the raceway to record her own great run for runner-up honors. Paul Richards Jr, Glenn Macomber, Kyle Ferrucci, Tyler Galatro and the returning Don Schmidt completed the field.
Chad Sandt powered into the lead at the start of the 600 Sprint main just as quickly had Joel Smith and Louie Horvath breathing down his tailpipes. The trio raced away from the field for a few laps but attrition would bring the field back together for restarts. Sandt was spectacular racing to the top of the cushion while Smith and Horvath were glued to the baseline of the speedway. A restart on lap-18 for the spinning Chad VanHorn brought the field together for one last restart. Sandt raced to the top of the raceway while Smith pulled even in turn one but got into the turn a bit hot and spun out. The restart found Sandt racing the final two laps while holding off a determined Sam Kravitsky to capture his first win of the season at Hamlin. Kravitsky was second in the Thornton owned race car followed by Danny Buccafusca, Joseph Smith and JD Casazza. The second five found the returning Steven Gully, newcomer Wayne Scott Jr, newcomer Taylor Troxel, Joel Smith and Carmen Leggio Jr completing the top ten.
JJ Rice won a drag race over Hunter Lapp at the start of the Junior Slingshot finale to hustle into the lead. Rice was quick as he led through the first half of the feature. From sixth starting place, Jared Silfee was on the move as he one by one slipped past his competition into the runner-up slot. Silfee used an inside move to pull even and then drive by Rice who seemingly had slowed a bit off of the pace. Silfee was in command the remainder of the way to pick up his third win of the season. Cole Stangle used a late charge to wind up as the runner-up with Hunter Lapp third, Rice fourth and Shelby McLaughlin doing a great job for fifth. Tanner VanDoren, Tyler Banks, Ty Kelly, Adam Buchel and Jake Mason completed the top ten.
The Super Slingers racing action found Wes Hearn hustling out to a comfortable lead early in the event with early pressure coming from Dale Kober. After the midway point of the event, Hearn stretched his lead with 13.384 second laps and drove away to his eighth consecutive win in the division. Dale Kober was second with Roger Collins, Steve Pirone and Ryan Lacoe following.
Geordan Marrero took the lead on the first lap of the first of two Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint main events and led all of the way but had to hold off a determined effort by Mack Brink to become the first rookie driver to secure his second win of the season. Brink was second with Kyle Exley doing great work in third place, the returning Tim Bauer Fourth, and newcomer Brevan Rothermal rounding out the top five. Rothermal was a first time competitor at the speedway who got upside down in hot laps and made repairs to come back for a good finish in an extremely up and down night for the teenager from Blandon, Pennsylvania. Carmen Leggio Sr was sixth with Ron Bosga, and newcomer Savannah Leggio following.
Lavar Scott, who is a regular at Airport Speedway, gave the Hamlin Speedway a try and the results were fantastic as he grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag and reeled off some 12.262 second laps to distance himself form the field and go on to capture his first ever win at Hamlin. Local star Noah Zielinski kept pace for runner-up honors with Mikey Smith, Jacob Balliet and Kevin Weiand completing the top five. Jakson Ring, JR Williams, Cody Powell and the returning Mark Berkenstock complete the field.
Charlie Bodine returned to Hamlin from his Florida residence and picked up a ride in the Smith Fabrication rental machine for the night of racing. Bodine showed he had not skipped a beat as he raced out to an early lead. Joel Smith broke free into the runner-up role and began trying to figure out a way around the high flying Bodine. On lap seventeen, Smith made his bid off of the baseline to pull even with Bodine and eventually slip past him and go on for his first win of the 2016 racing season. Bodine was the solid runner-up with Bill Dianella, Chloe Andreas and Damon Paul completing the top five. Cole Stangle, Will Casazza, Troy Langendoerfer, Janell Geary, Caitlin Henneforth, the returning John Lakatos and Evan Civick completed the list of finishers.
Pearl Jams:
Randy Smith had the speedway in impeccable condition as the multi-channeled facility was very racy throughout the evening and the Smith Crew can be proud of their efforts in keeping the speedway in top form and producing a great show for the fans.
The time trials for the 33 All Star Slingshots on hand found Justin Mills stopping the clocks at 14.115 seconds to lead all racers in the All Star Slingshots as he nipped Tyler Peet who timed at 14.183 seconds and Wes Hearn who timed at 14.192 seconds. Paul Richards Jr was top timer for the 270 Sprints with a 11.567 second time.
The heat racing action produced some great side by side battles with heat winners being Joel Smith, Chad Sandt and Louie Horvath in the 600 Sprints, Wes Hearn in the Super Slingers, Damon Paul and Joel Smith in the Stage One Modifieds. Cole Stangle, Shelby McLaughlin and Hunter Lapp recorded wins in the Junior Slingshots. Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint heat wins were claimed by Lavar Scott, Mack Brink and Jakson Ring.
Newcomers and returning drivers to the speedway included the racing Scott Family, Wayne Sr and Jr and Lavar, Mark Berkenstock, Nathan Smith, Brevan Rothermal, Taylor Troxel, Will Butler, Chad VanHorn, Steven Gully, and Tim Bauer in the 600 Sprints. Charlie Bodine and John Lakatos were new additions to the Stage One Modifieds. Nunzi Allegrucci and Don Schmidt were new additions to the 270 Sprints. The All Star Slingshot ranks swelled with big money on the line and the event brought back former regulars Corey Cormier, John Bockhorn, Daniel Morgiewicz, David Burns and Kyle Herve to the roster. Sarah Bohlin made her first ever appearance at the speedway and Marty Kelly rolled in from Vermont to do battle.
Once again the generous support from the racers and fans created the wonderful family atmosphere that exists at the Hamlin Speedway and this event proved to be another solid promotional effort for the VetStock Organization. A tip of the fedora goes out to Hollywood Towing & Auto, Hamlin Speedway, S&S Speedways, Allesson Rode and GA Motorsports Media in unison to market this great event and the racers and fan support was overwhelming and a huge thank you to everyone for their gracious support of the event including all of the sponsors who put up some hard earned dollars to sponsor every lap of the century long run.
Clock Drawing Raffle winners included Old Mill Pub ($100.00), Mary Lyn Williams ($100.00), Jessica Benke ($200.00), Olivia Mease ($100.00), Tim Krysiuk ($300.00), Pina Bennicoff ($100.00), Allison Stettler ($400.00), Glenn Spahr ($100.00), Kelsey Horvath ($500.00), Doreingos Oliveilla ($100.00), and Erin Burd ($1,000.00)
Some great prizes were offered up in the Chinese Auction and many happy fans walked home with some great gifts. A 50/50 auction from VetStock found John Madsen walking out of the speedway with $405.00.
The hard-charger award went to the returning "Big D" Daniel Morgiewicz as he made his first start of the season and passed thirteen cars on his way to 16th position after starting 29th. The $50.00 prize was sponsored by Vogel Designs. The hard-luck award went to Samantha Muller as she was sitting in a solid ninth place when her racer encountered some mechanical gremlins after the halfway mark that forced her to the sidelines. The award was sponsored by Ryan Smith Racing.
Ruth Hadley sang a stirring rendition of the National Anthem after a flag donated by the Rode Family was raised in the memory of Lester Marsh by members of the VetStock contingent headed up by Tommy Ryan.
The great evening of racing was brought to a bombastic conclusion with some rocking fireworks for the packed crowd on hand. The well-noted concession stand was kept extremely busy throughout the evening.

By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
The "Pearl in the Poconos" Hamlin Speedway ushered in their annual two-day "Spring Into Summer Sizzler" spectacular over the weekend and beautiful warm summer weather benchmarked the Tenth Annual two day affair. Both days of competition were filled with exceptional runs by the talented roster of individuals and the standing room only crowds on both days thoroughly enjoyed the close wheel to wheel driving exploits from a great roster of driving talent that ranges from the ages of 7 to 69. The Hamlin Speedway was in top form under the watchful eye of the Smith Family as the two day spectacular produced the great racing memories that will be talked about for some time to come. 222 entries took part in the two day event sponsored by S&S Speedways Indoor Go Karts located in Snydersville, Pennsylvania,
The Friday night action saw some new winners take center stage and a special event for the "Stars of Tomorrow" as the National Tour was part of the evening's festivities and found outside invader Kyle Smith from Kutztown, Pennsylvania upsetting a stellar field of young driving talent. The win was Smith's first career win at Hamlin. Austin Silfee captured his second win of the season in overcoming a strong run by Dale Kober to notch the victory in the All Star Slingshots. "The A-Team" Brandon Azzalina captured the Wingless 600 sprint win after a torrid battle with Joel Smith, Eddie Strada, Danny Buccafusca and Robbie Hocker. "The Sandman" Troy Langendoerfer returned to action with the borrowed car of Mike Marold and had the hot hand as he raced to the feature win in the Hampton RV And Trailer Stage One Modified excursion. "The Ambassador" Wes Hearn is on a roll at the speedway and added another win in the Super Slinger finale. "The Wild Child" Geordan Marrero captured his first win in the Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint main event. "The Aviator" Robbie Watson returned to action and captured his first win in the 270 Sprint main.
Geordan Marrero put all of the pieces together and his Friday win had him at the top of his game as won the Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint main event. Scott Slater Jr, Brett Altemose, Mikey Smith and Mack Brink completed the top five. Noah Zielinski from nearby Mount Cobb headed up the second five the returning JR Segar, Scott Slater Sr, Joe Howey and Jakson Ring completing the top ten.
It was business as usual for Troy Langendoerfer as he jumped back into a race car after sitting on the sidelines for some time while attending college. Langendoerfer drove the Mike Marold Stage One Modified to a win and it was far from easy as he had Joel Smith nipping away at him throughout the event. Smith was second with Damon Paul third, Stephen Darling fourth and Chloe Andreas rounding out the top five. Caitlin Henneforth, Bill Dianella, Michael Samony, Tyler Peet and Cole Stangle completed the top ten.
Super Slinger action had Wes Hearn rocketing into the lead at the start of the event and he would lead all twenty laps to capture his sixth win of the season. Dale Kober kept the pressure on and would finish in the runner-up slot. John Mirabelli had his best finish of the season with a third place run with Jeff Haduck, Ryan Lacoe, Steve Pirone and Tom Van Pelt completing the field.
Kyle Smith had the hot hand as the best of the best Junior Slingshot driving stars converged at Hamlin for the National Tour event. With an elite 18-car starting field, the action was fast and furious from start to finish as the "Stars of Tomorrow" put on a great show for the fans and can be quite proud of their accomplishments in their budding racing careers. Smith, who is the grandson to racing legend Charley Gilmore, led all of the way to secure the win but tons of pressure came his way as Cole Stangle, Jared Silfee, Hunter Lapp and Michael Corbin were nose to tail for most of the event. Gavin Santee, headed up the second five with Tanner Jones, TY Kelly, JJ Rice and Emily Fleming completing the top ten. Fourteen cars completed the event on the same lap showing just how tough the competition is for the youngsters in racing.
The Wingless 600 Sprint finale was a barnburner from the drop of the green flag. Brandon Azzalina won the race into turn one and it set up a cat and mouse game throughout the entire distance as Eddie Strada, Joel Smith, Danny Buccafusca and Robbie Hocker put on a whale of a show trading slide-jobs and each driver trying to out-power and out-wit his competition. Brandon Azzalina prevailed with his second win of the season while Strada, Smith, Buccafusca and Hocker would complete the top five. Chad Sandt, Colin White, Zac Azzalina, JD Casazza and Joseph Smith finished out the top ten.
Austin Silfee was on rails as he led all of the way to claim second All Star Slingshot win at the speedway in 2016. It wasn't easy by any means as Dale Kober, Wes Hearn Brett Bieber and Mike McLaughlin followed Silfee to the line. Anthony Recchio, Alan Selemba, Taylor Mills, Russell Benke and Tyler Peet completed the top ten.
Robbie Watson led all of the way to claim the win in the 270 Sprint main with Paul Richards Jr, Glenn Macomber and Kyle Ferrucci following Watson to the finish. Watson later asked his girlfriend for her hand in marriage in victory lane, a fitting end for a great night for "The Aviator." By the way, she said YES!
DAY 2:
The Saturday night racing action was fast and furious as Promoters Denise and Randy Smith moved the show along quickly and precisely as the track was in tip-top condition for the racing ahead. With eight features on tap, the evening of speed was checkered flagged with the final event at 10:57 PM.
Stephen Darling captured his first Stage One Modified main event at the speedway and in doing so had to defeat a solid band of marauders who pursued him. from the previous evening. Russell Benke punched his winning ticket for the first time in 2016 as he captured his first win at Hamlin in All Star Slingshot competition. Paul Richards Jr captured the Wingless 270 Sprint main. "The Hurricane" Hunter Lapp took advantage of the prime real estate offered to him and he drove to his second win of the season in the Junior Slingshot main event. "The Ambassador" Wes Hearn is seemingly unstoppable as he notched his seven consecutive win of the season in the Super Slinger headliner and in doing so broke his own one lap track record by stopping the clocks at 13.156 seconds, breaking his old mark of 13.311 seconds he set in 2015. "Radioactive" Robbie Hocker returned to the speedway in recent weeks and drove a flawless race to score his first win at the speedway in some time in the Wingless 600 Sprint main. With an influx of 24 Rookie 600 Sprint entries, the field was split into two features and "The Young Rustler" Jacob Balliet scored his first career win at the speedway with a nifty display of smooth driving. The second Rookie 600 Sprint main was captured by a former All Star Slingshot champion at the speedway, "The Mack Attack" Mack Brink as the Jefferson Township star secured his first career win in his new division.
Paul Richards Jr blasted out front at the start of the Wingless 270 Sprint main and raced out to an early lead while Louden Reimert, a former track regular, came through the field twice to challenge. Richards captured the win with Reimert in second, Jacob Hendershot third, Glenn Macomber fourth and Kyle Ferrucci rounding out the top five.
Wes Hearn started from the pole in the Super Slinger finale but would receive a stiff challenge from Dale Kober throughout the event. Hearn turned up the wick and broke the track record on lap four and in the twenty lap event broke the existing track record at least fifteen times to score his seventh win of the season. Kober was solid in second place with the returning Joe Bodenschatz third, Jeff Cosgrove fourth and Steve Pirone fifth just nipping Ryan Lacoe.
Mike McLaughlin out-gunned Russell Benke at the start of the All Star Slingshot feature and quickly attempted to run to daylight away from the field. The competition would not allow that to happen and Russell Benke in particular as he stayed glued to McLaughlin's bumper for five laps until he baselined his racer off of turn two to pull even and then ahead of McLaughlin in turn three. Benke was able to stay ahead of the crowd vying for his spot and in doing so cranked off some 13.291 second laps to remain at the head of the pack. Benke would go on to win the event with Kober grabbing up runner-up honors. Brett Bieber was third with McLaughlin fourth and Wes Hearn fifth. The entire field remained in close quarters throughout the event and the second five were Alan Selemba, Chris Kurtz, Anthony Recchio, and Justin and Taylor Mills.
Justin Hartz was a rocket at the start of the Rookie 600 Sprint main as grabbed the lead and led the way for the first six laps until recent winner Joe Howey slipped past him. Just as quickly a skirmish occurred and Howey got caught up in it. Jacob Balliet, who had a quick racer all night long, found himself at the head of the pack for the restart and the youngster made the most of it by leading the remaining laps to secure his first ever win at the Hamlin Speedway. JR Segar was second with Joe Howey recovering nicely to race to third, Scott Slater Sr was fourth and Tyler Galatro rounded out the top five. Newcomer Tyler Kehs was sixth and recent addition to the speedway Cody Powell was seventh.
The second Rookie 600 Sprint main found Brett Altemose with the hot hand early on as he led the first 14-laps of the event. Altemose bobbled off of turn two and Mack Brink seized the opportunity to pull event and then take command of the event in turn three. Brink would go on to win his first ever 600 Sprint feature at Hamlin while the hard riding Nate Brinker was the runner-up. Geordan Marrero was third with Altemose recovering for fourth and Aaron Casterlin recovering from an early spin to race back to fifth place. Jesse James Bartleson, Noah Zielinski and Kyle Exley completed the field.
Cole Stangle led the first two laps of the Junior Slingshot main but gave way to the slick running Jared Silfee. Silfee would lead until lap nine when Cole Stangle forged ahead but as the racers came upon slower traffic Stangle found himself off course in the mad scramble that occurred. On the restart, Silfee bobbled a bit and Hunter Lapp took command of the event. Lapp would lead the remainder of the event to secure his second win of the season at Hamlin. "Junior Excitement" JJ Rice would hustle in for second place with Silfee third, "TVD" Tanner Van Doren fourth and Ty Kelly rounding out the top five. The second five were headed up Emily Fleming, John Kendall, Tyler Banks, Jack Clancy and Evan Van Valkenburg.
Stephen Darling seized command of the Hampton RV and Trailer Stage One Modified feature at the drop of the green flag and led all of the way to win his first career feature win at Hamlin. It would be no cakewalk for Darling as Joel Smith dogged him every inch of the way and pulled even on occasion but Darling had enough in the tank to go for the win. Smith was second with Damon Paul, Bill Dianella and Cole Stangle completing the top five. Troy Langendoerfer was sixth while Michael Samony, Janell Geary, Will Casazza and newcomer Jim Hartz completed the field of racers.
The Wingless 600 Sprint main found Robbie Hocker with a fast hot rod as he led the field around the race track. Throughout the course of the event, Hocker was able to be the only racer to dip into the 13 second bracket for a lap. Sam Kravitsky put up a formidable challenge in the Thornton owned racer to finish second with Chad Sandt, Joel Smith and Chris Kurtz completing the top five. The second five found Louie Horvath shaking off his early season bad luck to nail down sixth place and JD Casazza, Danny Buccafusca, Ryan Quackenbush and Grady Johnston completing the top ten.
PEARL JAMS:
Promoters Denise and Randy Smith had the grounds in pristine condition for the two-day weekend and many of the crowd stayed over for both days of the fabulous racing action. Another tip of the hat goes out to the Smith Family for another great weekend of racing.

The Hamlin Speedway Is The "Pearl" In The Poconos
HAMLIN SPEEDWAY NEWS
Posted by: | CommentsHamlin, PA - The Cream Rises To The Top In Sensational Hamlin Speedway Racing Action
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Hamlin Speedway got back on track last night and in traditional fashion Promoters Randy and Denise Smith hosted another sensational event on Saturday evening as a standing room only crowd on hand witnessed a seven feature event show that was completed at 10:39 PM. All cylinders were clicking to perfection as the fifth week of the 2016 produced another well executed spectacle of speed in the Pocono Mountains. With superb weather acting as the backdrop, the top stars at Hamlin duked it out on the superbly conditioned 1/5 mile clay cushioned raceway. The show proved to be a blessing as all of the preliminary events and the seven features were run off quickly and once again the cream rose to the top for the 122 racers who converged at the speedway to battle in their quest to find their way into the coveted Hamlin Victory Circle. The event was sponsored by S&S Speedways Indoor Go Karts located in Snydersville, Pennsylvania.
Capturing wins during the exciting evening of speed were "The Ambassador" Wes Hearn who continues to flourish at Hamlin as he scored his fifth win of the season in the Super Slinger finale while securing runner-up honors in the All Star Slingshot main event. "Magic Shoes" Mike McLaughlin had the hot ticket in the All Star Slingshot main as he captured his first win of the season. Empire State driving star Damon Paul was scary fast as he racked up his second win of the season in the exciting Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified main event. The G-Man" Grady Johnston showed his competitors the short way around Hamlin as he baselined his way to his third win of the season in the Wingless 600 Sprint finale. Paul Richards Jr was spectacular in racing to his third win of the season in the 270 Sprint headliner. Former Slingshot star Joe Howey was spot on as he gassed his way to his first career win at Hamlin in the Rookie 600 Sprint twenty lapper. The Junior Slingshot feature was captured by "The Hurricane" Hunter Lapp as he earned his first career win at Hamlin with a stellar performance over a tough field of competition and marking his eighth win of the season out on the Junior Slingshot circuit.
The "Stars of Tomorrow" from the Junior Slingshot division have been sensational all season long and Saturday was no exception as Hunter Lapp, fresh off of a Friday night win at Accord, wasted no time in seizing the lead at the start with Jared Silfee immediately applying the pressure. A few skirmishes along the way slowed the event down at times but when the racing was go Lapp was able to clock off some 13.903 times and Silfee chasing with 14.006 times. Yes, they were that close! Lapp was able to get through lapped traffic a bit quicker than Silfee but a caution on lap-18 for a disabled Adam Buchel, brought out the caution and ending Buchel's great night as he was running fourth at the time. A two lap shoot-out followed and Lapp was able to hit his marks and go on to capture his first career win at Hamlin. the early laps. Jared Silfee followed closely for runner-up status. Cole Stangle continued his fine season with a solid third place showing while Jake Mason and Ty Kelly completed the top five. "Lil Miss" Shelby McLaughlin headed up the second five after starting eleventh while Emily Fleming, the returning Evan Van Valkenburg, Nathen Marold and Colton Geary completed the top ten. A solid field of 18-cars took the initial green flag.
The stars of the over-35 Super Slinger division found crowd favorites Wes Hearn and Dale Kober at their best as the veteran wheel twisters put on a great show as they duked it out over twenty laps. Kober turned a fast time of 13.903 seconds to remain close and Hearn was consistent with some 13.860 times. Hearn would go on to capture his fifth consecutive win of the season while Kober nursed his smoking machine to a close runner-up finish. Steve Pirone ran an excellent race to secure third place and his best finish to date in the division. The returning Greg Zellman ran a great race to finish fourth while steady Jim Conroy completed the top five.
The Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint main found 23-cars going to the post for the start of the twenty lap main event. Joe Howey quickly grabbed the lead and found the baseline of the speedway much to his liking as he was followed by a hot running AJ Hobbs. Before a lap could be completed, a spin by Jacob Balliet netted a "tommy-tip-over" for Tony Parlanti. Once the drivers settled in, it became the Howey-Hobbs show as for a few laps before the smooth as silk "Wild Child" Geordan Marrero came into the picture. Marrero found his mark from the catbird seat as he watched the action in front of him for a few laps before trading second place with Hobbs for a few laps. A four car skirmish on lap-16 ended Hobbs bid and placed Marrero nose to tail with Howey for the remaining four laps. Howey would repel the bid by Marrero and go on to capture his first career win at Hamlin with Marrero a close second. 14th starting "The Mack Attack" Mack Brink would hustle through the field to nail down third with Noah Zielinski fourth and Scott Rupp completing the top five. The second five found 65 year-old Carmen Leggio Sr, Jakson Ring, JR Williams, Jacob Balliet and Tyler Galatro finishing up the top ten.
The Hampton RV and Trailer Sales Stage One Modified action was thrills a plenty from the word go as "The Beast" Chloe Andreas grabbed the lead at the start of the event and paced the field through nine laps while holding off a hard charging Damon Paul. Paul found the space he was looking for on lap ten and made the winning move and a quick running Steve Darling was able to slip past Andreas for the runner-up slot. Paul and Darling ran nose to tail and side by side for the remainder of the event with Paul capturing his second win of the season. Darling was the runner-up followed by Bill Dianella, Joel Smith and Chloe Andreas.
The 270 Sprint main for the winged warriors got off to a slow start as the returning Brittany Erlsten broke before the event went green. Paul Richards Jr was was fast and furious as he blasted out of the starting gate to lead the entire way with "Deuce" Glenn Macomber taking up the chase and finishing second. Kyle Ferrucci and Tyler Galatro finished behind Macomber.
Mike McLaughlin and Taylor Mills brought the star studded All Star Slingshot field to the starting line for the start of their 20-lap headliner. McLaughlin won the drag race at the start of the event and kept the momentum going as he tried to step away from the field. From third starting position came Wes Hearn and he began to pressure McLaughlin with moves from the top and the bottom of the raceway. A caution flag for a disabled Colin White on lap eight negated a Hearn pass for the lead and kept McLaughlin at the point. On the restart, Hearn would try time and time again but McLaughlin kept his line and raced to his first win of the season at Hamlin. Hearn would finish a strong second with "The Oley Jet" Brett Bieber racing to third place. Taylor Mills would finish fourth while Chris Kurtz completed the top five. The second five found Russell Benke III, Tyler Peet, Justin Mills from 16th, Tyler Pirone from 23rd, and Austin Silfee from 17th completing the top ten finishers. Twenty starters finished all of the twenty laps as the racing was just that close.
Grady Johnston blasted out front at the drop of the green flag in the 600 Sprint main and was quickly hounded by "The A-Team" Brandon Azzalina. The pair began a chess match of who is going where with birthday boy "Radioactive" Robbie Hocker joining the battle and a lap later "The Nickel Man" Joel Smith would move into the picture. As the laps clicked off, Johnston remained at the point and the battle for real estate escalated as the great talent showed their best stuff to one another as they jockeyed for position. Johnston would not be denied as he drove to a close win over Azzalina to secure his third win of the season at Hamlin. Hocker was third with Smith fourth and "The Rockaway Rocket" Danny Buccafusca completing the top five. "Bad" Chad Sandt headed up the talented second five with Johnny Smith, Sam Kravitsky from 17th, Zac Azzalina from 22nd and Mick D'Agostino completing the top ten.

A great job by the crew. Jack Clancy was forced to the sidelines in the Junior Slingshot main when his brake caliper froze and started a fire in his racer. JJ Rice, John Velde, Brittany Erlsten and Louie Horvath encountered mechanical issues and were forced out early in their respective features.
