GULAR, REIMERT AND SNYDER EARN NASCAR CHAMPIONSHIPS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
ALL ATTENTION TURNS TO 48TH ANNUAL FREEDOM 76 WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 14 & 15
BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 9, 2018 . . . For the first time this century there is a NASCAR T.P.Trailers 358 Modified Champion at Grandview Speedway not named Howard, Strunk or Von Dohren. Going back to the previous century it was 1999 when Terry Meitzler won the title. Veteran racer Mike Gular is the 2018 Modified Champion, his first championship, having tallied 3536 points without benefit of a feature win but earned with consistent strong finishes all season.
“My car owner provided us with great equipment,” said Gular. “Over the years my parents have been very supportive of my racing and sacrificed for my racing. My dad (former racer Rudy Gular) was there to see us race many nights and was so happy that we won the title.
“A big thanks goes to car owner Rich Stankiewicz and his roofing business along with Conestoga Valley Custom Kitchens and of course the great team effort. Our consistency paid off for us with the championship. We are hoping we can top off the season with a win in the Freedom 76 on Saturday.”
In the Sportsman division sophomore racing talent Louden Reimert earned the top spot with 2684 points and like Gular did it without benefit of a feature win. Danny Snyder led the Late Model standings all season after rattling off three feature wins early in the season. Snyder tallied 2211 points to win his first title.
Ten time Modified champion Craig Von Dohren won three features and had 3386 points to finish 150 points behind the new champion. Jeff Strunk, another ten time champion, finished third with 3351 points. He had two wins. And the third of the big three, Duane Howard, finished fourth in the final point tallies with 3057 points and no wins.
Defending champion Chuck Schutz finished second in the final Late Model standings with 2053 points and three wins. Wayne Pfeil was a close third with 2023 points and two wins while young Kyle Merkel finished fourth with one win and 2002 counters.
Finishing second to Reimert in the Sportsman standings was Brad Grim with 2549 points and one win. Mike Lisowski took third with 2448 points and two wins.
Unfortunately the final point event of the season, WNPV Radio Championship Night, was rained out as were eight other racing nights counting toward the championship standings.
All attention will now be centered on two big nights of racing action coming up on Friday, September 14, and Saturday, September 15. On Friday, 7 p.m., the Sportsman will race in the Freedom 38 and the Mid Atlantic Sprints will be performing in a full slate of qualifying events topped by a 25 lap feature. Modifieds racing in the Saturday night Freedom 76 will be permitted practice laps. Adult admission is $12 while youngsters 6 through 11 pay $5 and kids under 6 are admitted free. It will also be the last opportunity for fans to purchase the money saving advance adult tickets for the Freedom 76. Advance tickets are priced at $35 with race day tickets costing $40.
On Saturday, September 15th, 7 p.m. the “Granddaddy of Modified Stock Car Classics”, the 48th Annual Freedom 76 paying $25,000 to win, will be presented. A full series of qualifying events will lead up to the 76 lap finale. Adult admission is $40 while youngsters 6 thru 11 pay $10 and kids under 6 are admitted free.
The Freedom 76 has a September 22nd rain date while the Friday events do not have a rain date.

BACON BANKS $15,000 BC39 VICTORY AT IMS

Speedway, Indiana....September 6, 2018 - Brady Bacon has won quite a few big races thus far in his racing career, but Thursday night, he put himself into a stratosphere unclaimed by any other: feature winner on the dirt track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The Broken Arrow, Okla. native made his winning move in traffic with just eight laps remaining to score the Driven2SaveLives "BC39" presented by NOS Energy Drink victory worth $15,000, his first series win of 2018.
But if you're going to win one, and only one, all year, make it one to remember. Bacon relishes that fact for not only himself, but for his FMR Racing crew who've been through the battlefields with him for four years now, a group of individuals he doesn't take for granted.
"This is definitely up at the top," Bacon exclaimed. "It's a first-year event, but it's the first win on the dirt track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and no one can ever take that away. Obviously, there's a lot of things that make it special for me, the team, Bob (East), Brad (Noffsinger) and Frank (Manafort). As many years as those guys have been together and to still be winning, it's an honor to work with guys like that. To still want to work this hard takes a lot to be at the top. They've done all the work, made the investment in me and still think I'm at the top. This one's probably going to take a while to sink in."
After a lengthy rain delay that pushed the evening's event back several hours, the A-Main pushed off just after midnight for the Inaugural 39-lap race where Bacon set forth all the way back in the seventh position.
Pole sitter Kevin Thomas, Jr. was masterful early, spurting out front from the drop of the green to lead the first baker's dozen of laps, working the bottom as Tyler Courtney blitzed the top just about one to two car lengths behind Thomas in a lap-after-lap battle for supremacy.
Thomas created some separation between he and Courtney in the first-third of the event until a six-car melee ensued between turns three and four on the 14th lap, resulting in Tucker Klaasmeyer toppling over on the 14th lap. He was uninjured and did not restart.

Once racing resumed, second-place Bacon made his presence felt as a contender, serving as Thomas' largest foil thus far, putting pressure on the Alabama driver as the two gapped the field.
On the 20th lap, Bacon fired his first shot across the bow, going stride-to-stride with Thomas into turn three, but Thomas was able to muscle his way back to the bottom to secure the line and the position. Bacon's move for the lead seemed imminent and, a lap later, he took another jab at Thomas off turn two, this time pulling the wheels off the ground, with a tad too much tightness at the moment, as his Brown & Miller Racing Solutions - Black Watch Farms - Mobil 1/Beast/Toyota roared to life.
The pressure was on Thomas as the pair hit lapped traffic. Thomas' line swung a little wider off the bottom as time wore on while Bacon's arching line stuck him to the bottom on exit like glue. Thomas' lead clung to life as he ripped from the high side of four off exit, swinging low like a sweet chariot across the nose of Bacon into turn one on lap 24 to retain the lead.
Traffic was plentiful on the bottom, forcing Thomas and Bacon to occupy the unclaimed high side nearing ten to go as Chad Boat suddenly entered the fray in third. Thomas slid out in turn four on lap 31 as Bacon tethered himself to the bottom and powered to the lead by a car length at the start/finish line. Thomas immediately darted to the bottom entering turn one as both he and Bacon put on a dueling Tokyo drift display through the corner while Boat emerged on the bottom to make it three-wide for the race lead down the back straight entering turn three.
"He wasn't leaving the door open for me until it got a little slicker," Bacon recalled. "He kept opening it wider and wider, and I was getting a better run. I just had to time it right. I got under him once and I thought I might've given it away by not staying in front of him. We were able to put enough pressure on him and made him think and move around a little bit, which allowed me to sneak underneath him. It was not over by any means because he had a really good racecar too and traffic could've gone in a number of ways."

Indeed, it did, as Bacon remained on the high side and established some personal space, climbing the ladder to the top and ever-so-slightly, subtly pinning Thomas and Boat behind the lappers between turns one and two.
Boat's attack was relentless, and Bacon had to be as suave as possible down the stretch. The veteran two-time USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car champ was unflappable, keeping Boat at bay in the final laps to win by a half-second over Boat, Thomas, Courtney and KSE Racing Products/ProSource Hard Charger Christopher Bell from 17th.
"I thought we had a really good car from the start," Bacon explained. "I knew I was going to be a little tight at the beginning. We had some wheelies going on, but I knew it was going to come to me. I could see some black come in on the track. We had a really good line where we could throw it sideways and come off straight on the bottom."
Bacon, who is expecting to become a father once again in the coming weeks with baby number three on the way, is eager to look at the big picture of things through what has been a tumultuous season in some ways with switching Sprint Car teams in the middle of the season and a series of misfortunes in the Silver Crown car despite being strong the majority of time, but without the results to show for. The results came through Thursday at IMS as he and his crew came to the forefront to notch down a prestigious victory.
"It's been a season of adversity and overcoming obstacles," Bacon detailed. "Having a solid deal here in the midget helps a lot. Everyone who's involved has pitched in and done their part above and beyond what anyone should expect anyone to do.
Driver Robert Dalby of Anaheim, Calif. was transported to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for non-life-threatening injuries following his accident during the fourth qualifying race.

WISE WINS PURSUIT, BRIGHT HIGH POINT MAN IN BC39 OPENER

Speedway, Indiana.........Wednesday's opening night of the Driven2SaveLives "BC39" presented by NOS Energy Drink began a new era of racing at the Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, set inside turn three of the surrounding world-famous 2.5-mile paved oval.
15-year-old Zeb Wise captured the victory in the Stoops Pursuit, a 20-lap elimination race in which you would be eliminated if you were passed. Coming to the white flag, the Angola, Ind. native went on the offense, sliding by Alex Bright in turn four on the penultimate lap to win the $1500 payday. In doing so, he put the 39BC in victory lane at the BC39, a fitting tribute to the late, great USAC champ in which the event is named for.
In preliminary action, Tyler Courtney completed an IMS Dirt Track version of a spin and win to become the first official winner of a race at the quarter-mile dirt oval, sliding to halt midway through the ten-lapper while leading, but the Indianapolis, Ind. driver got up on the wheel and drove it back to the front to capture the win in heat race one. Meanwhile, David Prickett and Tyler Nelson were involved in a tangle that resulted in a double-flip. Both walked away.
In heat race two, Macdoel, California's Maria Cofer, subbing for the injured Spencer Bayston, became the first female winner in the history of the Dirt Track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, getting to the point on the second lap from her outside front row starting spot.
Cullman, Alabama's Kevin Thomas, Jr. shot from fifth to first by lap two and never looked back, dominating heat race three to take the victory.
Shane Cottle of Kansas, Ill. wired the field in heat race four, leading all 10 laps to score the victory. Behind him, a torrid battle ensued as Dillon Welch ripped the fence lap after lap alongside Brian Karraker, but Karraker was able to get the spot to finish second on the final lap behind Cottle.
Tucker Klaasmeyer drove from seventh to first by halfway as the Paola, Kansas driver cruised to a two-second victory in heat race five.
An enthralling heat six saw USAC Triple Crown champ J.J. Yeley and Shane Golobic dip and dive, exchanging the front spot numerous times, with Yeley spraying the concrete with soil as he flirted with the turn two concrete each time he exited turn two in his journey to victory lane.
Jason McDougal and Steve Buckwalter banged wheels, nerf bars, you name it, in their torrid battle for the lead for the majority of heat race seven. A wheel-to-wheel, slider fest raged on until McDougal slipped on the berm near the end. Buckwalter, of Royersford, Pa. took control and raced on to victory. Zach Daum walked away from a turn two flip during the heat.
When Norman, Oklahoma's Christopher Bell starts from the pole, it's trouble for pretty much everyone else. The 2013 USAC National Midget champ put it to the competition, winning heat race eight handily.
It was a tale of two different lines in heat nine between Chad Boat and Tyler Thomas. But, the difference in this one was the two repeatedly swapped the lead back and forth, exchanging slider after slider after slider before Collinsville, Oklahoma's Thomas rode the rim in turn four to nip Boat at the line for the victory.
Foresthill, California's Ryan Robinson controlled heat race 10 from the outset, leading every lap despite starting fifth. Brayton Lynch followed suit, advancing from eighth to a second-place finish, rapidly closing on Robinson during the final laps as Robinson biked it on the cushion and motored on.
Alex Bright of Collegeville, Pa. was the lone winner from the back row, taking heat race 11 from the ninth starting spot after engaging in a furious battle with Davey Ray in the early going. Bright became the night's high-point man heading into Thursday's finale.
Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. made a late rally to challenge Brady Bacon on the final lap, but Bacon, the two-time USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car champ out of Broken Arrow, Okla. was perfect, leading the final nine laps to win heat race 12.
The "BC39" continues Thursday night, September 6 at IMS with the final events taking place, beginning with the eight qualifying races before moving into the main events and concluding with the 39-lap A-Main. The pits open at 8am, drivers meeting in the pagoda at 3pm and cars hitting the track at 5pm. All times Eastern.

Klaasmeyer Leads KKM Podium Sweep at Lake Ozark
Eldon, MO - Picking up his sixth POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League victory of 2018, Tucker Klaasmeyer led a Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports podium sweep at Lake Ozark Speedway. Starting outside the front row,
Klaasmeyer lead the opening lap over pole sitter Kyle Craker and Tyler Thomas in third. As the field began to search for grooves, the topside of the high-banked third mile appeared to be the quickest way around.
With four laps down, Kyle Craker caused the action to come to a stop after clipping the outside wall and flipping wildly. He was alright, but the damaged sustained to his machine was enough to sideline him for the remainder of the event. Resuming racing, Tanner Carrick hounded Klaasmeyer as Logan Seavey worked his way through the field from his eighth place starting position towards Tyler Thomas in third.
11 laps later, the caution flew again, this time for Karter Sarff who cut a right rear down. Stacking the field back up, Klaasmeyer again held off Carrick as Seavey searched for ground to gain on third place Tyler Thomas. Pushing into third and past Thomas, Seavey took the spot and with 23 laps down, Karsyn Elledge brought out the caution as her machine sat spun in turn four.
Returning to a two-lap shootout, Klaasmeyer deflected any chance that Carrick had at the lead, as Seavey slipped past Carrick for second. Tyler Thomas finished fourth with Ryan Robinson in fifth.
"That was a really fun race," commented Tucker Klaasmeyer. "I was starting to get a little nervous on needing to make a late race lane change, but I just felt too good up there to change anything. I could put that thing anywhere tonight. Al had that thing on lock. This is awesome. Picking up six wins in a year and leading the points this late in the year is great. Getting them all throughout the year and not just one patch throughout the season is nice. I'm looking forward to next week."
"Overall, the track crew gave us a great racetrack tonight, so hat's off to them," said Logan Seavey. "Once again, the KKM sweep the podium of the show. This shows how good these racecars are. They're so fun to drive and on a good racetrack like this with two grooves, it makes it a lot of fun. We all basically run identical racecars and are all trying to rip the fence. It's tough to gain ground when it's your teammates you're racing against."
"It was a pretty good weekend," stated Tanner Carrick. "A good start to six nights of racing for us. We'll get ready for the next four nights and see if we can carry this momentum into it."

KKM Podium Sweep at Lake Ozark Speedway
Eldon, MO - When the dust settled at the conclusion of the 25-lap POWRi Lucas Oil National and West Midget League feature event at Lake Ozark Speedway, Keith Kunz Curb Agajanian Motorsports took a clean podium sweep with Logan Seavey leading the charge over Tucker Klaasmeyer and Tanner Carrick.
On the opening lap, Tucker Klaasmeyer lead the charge, narrowly leading the field to the stripe over Kyle Craker. As the field thinned out, Tanner Carrick mounted a charge on the brim of the sweeping 1/3rd mile following a restart on lap four and took over from Klaasmeyer, only to be docked a position for dropping out of line on the restart.
With Klaasmeyer back out front and Carrick in second, Logan Seavey locked in behind the duo and found a unique line in three and four that allowed him to propel past Carrick and then onto Klaasmeyer. With five laps remaining, Seavey made his move past Klaasmeyer off turn four and powered into the lead. Coming to the checkered, Klaasmeyer and Carrick followed Seavey, resulting in a podium sweep for Keith Kunz Curb/Agajanian Motorsports and Toyota. Kory Schudy took fourth with Sam Johnson in fifth.
"Early I was struggling really bad, just fighting the racetrack," commented Logan Seavey. "I made as many adjustments as I could with the shocks and was able to really get going there about halfway. It took a while for the race to get a rhythm and get going. It seemed like the longer the green went, the better my car got. I found the middle there and it was the only place I could get any speed through three and four. Just getting through the bumps right was key. Luckily that late yellow stacked us back up and gave me a shot at the lead. You're kind of a sitting duck when you're leading the race and the track changes like that and a different line comes in."

"I felt really good in the beginning," stated Tucker Klaasmeyer. "I felt really good once I went to the top in one and two. I was kind of a sitting duck in three and four. I thought I was on to something but it didn't work as long as I hoped it would. Once he got around me, I started hitting the bottom on entry and it felt like it was really good at that point. Second is good. It was a good point night."
"I think I had the lead about five, six different times and had to give it back because of yellows and the red. Then I got the lead and led 15 laps or something like that and they penalized me on the start. That's racing. You get calls on you and sometimes you should and sometimes you shouldn't. We have a long week ahead of us with five nights of racing. We'll be back tomorrow night and then we head to Indy for the Indy race for two days and then Friday at Jacksonville and Saturday at Spoon River."

Speedway, Indiana......... With 86 cars entered for the September 5-6 Driven2SaveLives "BC39" presented by NOS Energy Drink at The Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the prestige of winning is at a maximum and the stakes are mountainous.
As it stands now, with only a quarter of the field slotted to make Thursday night's A-Main, that essentially means the heat races, qualifiers and any race leading up to the feature will look like stacked feature events anywhere else for the USAC P1 Insurance National Midgets.
Therefore, with so much on-track action and a field laden with racing stud-status, a special format will be utilized to whittle the field down to 22 starters for the main event. You'll more than get your money's worth Wednesday.
General admission ticketholders will have first-come, first-served access to the Shaw Grandstand, the temporary grandstands built in the IMS infield, near the Dirt Track. Kids 15 & under are admitted free with paid adult ticketholders. Wednesday General Admission ticketholders can access the IMS infield and can purchase Pit Passes. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2018
The format for Wednesday's program on Sept. 5 will feature all cars hitting the track, not for qualifying as is usually done for the majority of USAC National events. Instead, all cars will draw for randomly draw for heat race positions and hot lap with their heat race. Two rounds of hot laps will be held, starting with the final heat and snaking back to conclude with the final heat.
The race for victory will certainly be one that everybody certainly has an eye on. But, the battle for passing points will be as essential, with each car gaining valuable points with each car he or she passes determining where you will start in the qualifying races come Thursday night.
One faulty move, mistake, or just being caught up in someone else's mess can derail an the entire two-days of racing for them. Drivers will have to be on their toes and on the gas to accomplish their mission. And that's only get into Thursday's 39-lap main event, which will boast more than $70,000 in purse and incentives, including a $15,000 winner's purse - the largest in Midget racing.
Heat races will be 10 laps each, with the starting lineups determined by random draw. Points for the heats will be accumulated by finishing position and total number of positions gained or lost. Cars will be positioned into qualifying races Thursday based on the points accumulated in Wednesday's heats.
The much-talked about pursuit race on Wednesday will include 24 Starters (the top-10 in qualifying points, the 10 heat race winners and 4 promoter option spots. Every four laps, USAC will throw a competition flag and cars that have been passed during that stage will be called to exit the track.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2018
All cars are eligible for Thursday's qualifying races, with up to 12 cars competing per race. Qualifying races will be 10 laps each, with top-six starting positions inverted with the top point earner from Wednesday's heat races starting sixth. Total points from the heat races and qualifying races will be added to set the feature starting lineup, along with transfers from the B-Main, C-Main and front of the D-Main races. The top 16 overall in accumulated points will start straight-up in the first eight rows of the feature.
G-Main: 10 laps. Includes cars 87th or higher in points, with the top four finishers transferring to the F-Main.
F-Main: 10 laps. Includes cars 73rd through 86th in points, plus the top four finishers from the G-Main. The top four finishers transfer to the E-Main.
E-Main: 10 laps. Includes cars 59-72 in points, plus the top four finishers from the F-Main. The top four finishers transfer to the D-Main.
D-Main: 12 laps. Includes cars 45-58 in points, plus the top four finishers from the E-Main. The top four finishers transfer to the C-Main.
C-Main: 15 laps. Includes cars 31-44 in points, plus the top four finishers from the D-Main. The top four finishers transfer to the B-Main.
B-Main (Semi-Feature): 20 laps. Includes cars ranked 17-30 in points, plus the top-four finishers from the C-Main. The top six finishers transfer to the night's A-Main feature event.
The 39-lap A-Main feature will have 22 starters, plus two USAC provisional starters (if applicable) and two IMS options.
