VON DOHREN AND BRAD GRIM CONTINUE TO LEAD NASCAR POINTS AT GRANDVIEW
MODS AND SPORTSMAN IN ACTION ON SATURDAY, MAY 25TH
BECHTELSVILLE, PA May 22, 2019 . . . The battle for the NASCAR championships in T.P.Trailers Modifieds and T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman will continue this Saturday night, May 25, at Grandview Speedway as a doubleheader show kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
Craig Von Dohren sits on top of the standings in the Modified division while Brad Grim has the top position in the Sportsman. However competition is close in both divisions as the racers battle for the lucrative titles.
Two wins this season has allowed Von Dohren, a ten time champion, to hold on to the top spot in the Modified division with 1300 counters while Rick Laubach is just nineteen points behind without benefit of a win. Veteran campaigner Frank Cozze is third with 1153 followed by Duane Howard’s 1130 and Kyle Weiss’ 1049 rounding out the top five.
The last few Modified races have attracted more than 40 entries per night.
Brad Grim has just a 25 point lead over last Saturday’s Sportsman feature winner. Grim has 1061 tallies while Hirthler has 1036. Jack Butler sits in third with 1023 followed by Brad Brightbill at 1016 and Mark Kemmerer with 1011.
On Saturday, June 1, there will be a first time appearance of Central PA Legends racers as they join the NASCAR Modifieds and Sportsman for a tripleheader that will be the first of the season to have RCN-TV coverage.
Featured in the Low Down and Dirty Meet & Greet this Saturday, starting at 5 p.m., will be Modified talent Skylar Sheriff and Sportsman racer Mike Mammana. The two racers will have their race cars on display just outside of the main entrance.
Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. Adult admission is just $15 while youngsters under the age of 12 are admitted free.
And coming up on June 8th is Whelen Engineering Night featuring the T.P.Trailers Modifieds and T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman.
The first Thunder on the Hill Racing Series event, now in its 30th year, is set for Tuesday, June 11th at 7:30 p.m. The night of racing excitement will include the United States Auto Club Non-Wing Sprint Tour along with the 358 Modifieds in the Jesse Hockett Classic. The Sprints will be racing for $10,000 to win.

KRESSLEY AND HIRTHLER WIN NASCAR FEATURES, BUCKWALTER TOPS IN USAC EAST COAST SPRINT FEATURE AT GRANDVIEW
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. May 19, 2019 . . . Brett “The Threat” Kressley, behind the wheel of the Kressley family owned No. 19K, scored his second 30-lap TP Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified feature victory on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway in a down-to-the wire battle with Skyler Sheriff, the leader since the beginning of the event. The pair had several laps of paint swapping battles, but with one lap to go the Orefield based lead foot muscled the lead away from Sheriff and went on to chalk up the win.
Brian Hirthler, who’s regular No. 4 Star was waiting for repairs, borrowed his Brother Kevin’s backup No. 117X with a crate engine in it and won his first TP Truck Equipment 25-lap Sportsman NASCAR feature of the season. It was the same car Kevin won the opening race in. Brian received an extra $100 from the track for being the highest finishing driver with a crate engine.
Tim Buckwalter, doing double duty driving Modifieds and Sprints piloted the GEI-owned No. 5G to victory in the 25-lap Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars feature. It was just the second time for Buckwalter in the car.
Providing all feature winners met the necessary requirements, the Modified and Sportsman feature winner got monetary awards from TP Trailers and a certificate from VP Fuels for product awards. Sheriff and Mohr won the Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award.
More than 100 cars took part in the three division show.
Modified action saw Sheriff motor ahead of rookie Steve Wilson, Ron Seltmann Jr., Ron Kline and Mike Laise at the start of the race to set the pace for the 31-car starting grid that included provisionals taken by Craig Whitmoyer, Jeff Strunk and Craig Von Dohren.
The yellow was out when Bob Trapper Jr. slowed in the fourth turn with ten laps completed. Sheriff was still the leader on the restart, but now Seltmann Jr. was second and when he put in a bid for the lead he was taken high into the first turn marbles. He stayed out of the wall, but fell back several positions.
By the 13th lap restart needed when Buckwalter slowed in turn two, Kressley, 13th-place starter, advanced to second to pressure Sheriff for the top spot.
Behind Sheriff and Kressley waiting for a slip-up were Duane Howard, Ron Kline and Jared Umbenhauer.
The red was thrown on the 23rd lap after Frank Yankowski hit the third turn wall with heavy impact and had flames coming out from underneath his car which was extinguished quickly. Alex Yankowski was along the third turn inside berm with both out of contention. Sheriff held his line when action resumed, but not he had to contend with Howard, who was in the runner-up spot making his presence known.
Sheriff and Howard exchanged paint on occasions and with five to go Kressley was back in second with Howard, Umbenhauer and now Rick Laubach in pursuit.
The battle for the lead continued between Sheriff and Kressley with neither one giving an inch as the race progressed. Both drivers swapped lanes several times, but the outcome remained the same.
Coming around for the one to go signal Kressley made a bold move and managed to take the lead away after using every inch of the track to find a way around.
Kressley didn’t give Sheriff another chance to regain the lead and pulled into the winner’s circle for his 11th career win. Following him across the line for his best finish was Sheriff trailed by Howard, Umbenhauer and Laubach. Sixth through tenth were Frank Cozze, Mike Laise, Von Dohren, Ryan Grim and Doug Manmiller.
Steve Wilson, Sheriff, Buckwalter and Bobby Gunther Walsh won the heats. Consies went to Kyle Weiss and Louden Reimert.
For the third straight week, ten-time point champion Jeff Strunk failed to finish the race.
Derrick Smith led four laps of the Sportsman feature before Brad Brightbill slowed with a flat tire in the first turn for the yellow. On the restart Nathan Mohr jumped into the lead to take control of the race.
It didn’t take Mohr long to build up a sizeable lead over Smith, Mike Mammana, Kyle Lilick and Nate Brinker.
Lap 13 was certainly an unlucky won for Mohr as his car seized up bringing him to a halt in turn two bringing out the caution. Mammana, who inherited the lead, wasted no time staying in front of the pack when action went green again with Smith, Brinker, Hirthler and Lilick in pursuit.
Hirthler overtook second on the 17th lap and set his sights on Mammana and the lead.
The lead changed hands for the fourth and final time on the 22nd lap when Hirthler overtook first.
Hirthler, whose contact in his right eye shifted earlier in the race and he had to rely on his left eye until it moved to a comfortable spot, never looked back once he was in front and proceeded into victory lane for his fourth career win. Mammana, Smith, Lilick and Brinker chased him across. Ryan Beltz, Brad Grim, Jack Butler, Brad Arnold and Brightbill rounded out the top ten.
Heats were won by Mohr, Mammana and Josh Adams. The consi went to Butler.
Joey Biasi led the USAC Sprint feature for four laps before Buckwalter charged to the front of the pack.
Chasing Buckwalter for numerous laps were Biasi, Carmen Perigo, Ryan Quackenbush and Steve Drevicki.
Quackenbush’s strong run ended when he slowed on the homestretch to bring out the seventh lap caution. It was still Buckwalter ahead with Chandler Leiby joining the mix.
Drevicki was on the move as he went from fourth to second in one lap to take chase after Buckwalter.
No one was able to reel Buckwalter in to challenge and he went on to take the checkered followed by Drevicki, Perigo, Biasi and Leiby.
Perigo, Biasi and Buckwalter won the heat winners. Zach Burd picked up the consi win.
Next Saturday, May 25, a doubleheader show of NASCAR T.P.Trailers Modifieds and T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman closes out the month of May as the battle for the NASCAR titles goes on. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Adult admission is $15 with youngsters 11 and under admitted free. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Coming up on June 1st is the first of two visits for the Central PA Legends as part of a tripleheader show that will also feature the NASCAR Modifieds and Sportsman stock cars. There is no increase in the admission price for this tripleheader.

PITKAT SURVIVES TO SCORE WALL MODIFIED TOUR WIN

PITKAT SRVIVES TO SCORE WALL MODIFIED TOUR WIN
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ The wait was well worth it for Woody Pitkat.
The Stafford, Connecticut, native outlasted all competitors in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour return to Wall Stadium Speedway on Saturday and took the checkered flag in the first event for the series at the third-mile oval in 12 years.
It was the fourth career Whelen Modified Tour win for Pitkat, and his first in four years. It was also his first win driving for Danny Watts Racing in his 21st start with the team. Pitkat took over the ride after the passing of Ted Christopher in 2017.
“The biggest thing I told the guys today was that I wasn’t going to be over-aggressive,” Pitkat said. “I figured we wouldn’t qualify that great, but I knew I just needed to be there at the end. I was just trying to ride as much as I could. I really wasn’t sure how it was going to work out.”
The race didn’t look like it was going to fall into Pitkat’s lap until the final stages. Justin Bonsignore and Andrew Krause took turns leading early before Doug Coby took control of the race on lap 66 after starting sixth. He led a race-high 72 laps.
Coby was in control of the field on a restart on lap 138, and after contact with home town favorite Krause entering turn three, both of their chances ended. Krause, who was fastest in practice and led 35 laps himself, was done for the night.
That handed the lead to former series champion Ron Silk, who looked as though he would score his second win of the young season driving for Kevin Stuart. But, a restart with just five laps remaining ended Silk’s chances as contact sent him spinning in a wreck that collected many of the cars left on the track.
From there, the battle for Pitkat was underway on a green-white-checkered restart in NASCAR overtime, Pitkat lined up to the outside of Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender Timmy Catalano on the front row. At the green, Pitkat powered by to the lead and never looked back, as the No. 82 Horton Avenue Materials Chevrolet started smoking when the nerf-bar starting rubbing on the right-rear tire.
In the end Pitkat made it around to the checkered flag at the top of the field.
In the late dash, rising star and local favorite Blake Barney powered his way to a second-place finish, his career best effort in Whelen Modified Tour competition. Veteran Rob Summers was third, followed by Catalano and Dave Sapienza. Sapienza crashed into an infield barrier at the finish, but no injury was reported.
Eric Goodale was sixth, followed by Ken Heagy, Ron Silk, Tommy Catalano and Doug Coby.
Kyle Scisco of Jackson won his second 25-lap main event of the young season in the companion Center State Engineering Sportsman main event. Scisco's win came after he and fellow Jackson resident Jarret DiGiantomasso touched and tangled on a couple of occasions during the closing laps. Mancester's Shanon Mongeau was able to slip into second spot in front of Carsten DiGiantomasso while Christian LaCicero of Lavallette and Howell's Kevin Davison wrapped up the top five.
Elliott Wohl of Beachwood led most of the way to top the 25-lapper for the O'Shea's Auto Repair Factory Stocks. Defending class champion Mike Montano of Freeport, N.Y. was the runner-up, while Farmingdale's Kenny Green, Tim Majek of Scotch Plains and Union's Joey Helberg wrapped up the top five.
Neil Rutt III of Edison took the lead on lap 17 and won the 25-lapper for the Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stocks. Early leader Jeffrey Loesch of Neptune City was second, with Alonzo Morales of Mt. Ephraim, Edison's Darianne McLaren and Brick's Randy Hart were third through fifth.
The 2019 Saturday night regular season then continues on Saturday (May 25) evening with the Modifieds, Sportsman cars, Legend Cars and the Limited Late Models in action The open cockpit Three Quarter Midgets will make their first appearance of the season.
In observance of Memorial day weekend, all active military and veterans will enjoy free grandstand admission when providing proper identification. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. Qualifying starts at 5:45 p.m. and main event action starts at 7:00 p.m.

TIM BUCKWALTER DOING DOUBLE DUTY AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY SATURDAY NIGHT
BECHTELSVILLE, PA May 16, 2019 . . . When the tripleheader auto racing action gets the green flag this Saturday night at Grandview Speedway local talent Tim Buckwalter will be doing double duty as he races in the T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds and the Rapid Tire United States Auto Club East Coast Wingless Sprint Cars.
The Douglassville, PA racing talent has been a winner at Grandview in the NASCAR Modifieds and, in addition, has been a two time champion at Kutztown’s Action Track USA and a champion with the American Racing Drivers Club.
The veteran racer will be wheeling a sprinter owned by Norristown’s Bill Gallagher and wrenched by multi-time United Racing Club champion Curt Michael. “It’s a good car. One of the best 360 Sprint cars in the area. It is a big opportunity to work with Curt,” said Buckwalter. “I’m excited to see how we do.”
This will be a first time appearance for the USAC East Coast Sprints at Grandview and a stellar field of racers is expected.
Buckwalter will also be going up against some outstanding driving talents in the Modifieds, something he is familiar with as he is a Saturday night regular. Ten time NASCAR track champion Craig Von Dohren is the current point leader and already has two feature wins to his credit this season.
In addition to the Sprints and Modifieds fans will be treated to the exciting action of the T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman stock cars.

NASCAR MODIFIED TOUR AT WALL STADIUM ON SATURDAY (MAY 18)
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ The stars of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will invade Wall Stadium Speedway this Saturday, May 18 for the Jersey Shore 150 stock car race. On Saturday gates will open at 2:00 p.m., with practice at 2:15 p.m., qualifying at 5:45 p.m. and feature races starting at 7:00 p.m. In the event of bad Saturday weather, a special Sunday rain date has been set for this event. Tickets and pit passes are now available online only at wallspeedwayracing.com. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the track starting at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
All of the top NASCAR Modified racing stars are expected for this 150 lap event led by early 2019 tour race winners including two-time victor Doug Coby of Southington, Ct., as well as winners Ron Silk of Norwalk, Ct. and Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y. Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, N.Y., Eric Goodale of Riverhead, N.Y., Craig Lutz of Miller Place, N.Y., Chris Pasteryak of Lisbon, Ct. and Woody Pitkat of Bellingham, Mass., all of whom are currently in the top ten of tour points, are on the official entry list. Dave Sapienza of Riverhead, N.Y., who enjoyed a Wall Stadium Speedway win in the Turkey Derby last November, is also among the entries.
Local fans should also have plenty to cheer for in this race as Howell's Jimmy Blewett and Jackson's Blake Barney, both of whom are in the top ten in driver points, as well as Holmdel's Andrew Krause and Matawan's Anthony Sesely are expected to try to defend their local turf.
In addition to the 150 lap Tour Modified Main Event, the Center State Engineering Sportsman cars, the O'Shea's Auto Repair Factory Stocks and the Surfside Collision 4Cylinder Stocks will all see action in 25-lap feature races.

UNITED STATES AUTO CLUB (USAC) EAST COAST WINGLESS SPRINTS HEAD UP SATURDAY TRIPLEHEADER AT GRANDVIEW WITH NASCAR MODIFIEDS AND SPORTSMAN STOCK CARS
BECHTELSVILLE, PA May 13, 2019 . . . This Saturday night at Grandview Speedway there will be exciting racing action for both the open cockpit and stock car racing fans. The tripleheader show will have a 7:30 p.m. start.
The Rapid Tire United States Auto Club (USAC) East Coast Wingless Sprints will be making their first ever appearance on the one-third-mile banked clay oval. Sprint cars are known for being able to provide fans with great excitement on the Bechtelsville oval. Heading up the action will be such 360 Sprint standouts as Steve Drevicki, Eddie Strada, Alex Bright, and a host of others.
And the NASCAR stock car action will give the fans some edge of their seat action with Rick Laubach, making his first full time Grandview title effort, looking to overtake Craig Von Dohren in the championship chase. The Hellertown based Laubach will be looking to gain his first win of the season in the T.P. Trailers NASCAR Modified action. Despite not having a win to his credit Laubach is just 56 points behind leader Craig Von Dohren, a two feature winner already this season. Oley, PA based Von Dohren is a ten time NASCAR champion and leads the feature win department with 107 victories. Von Dohren has 1070 tallies.
Holding down third in the Modified point battle is “over 60 Hall of Famer” Frank Cozze with 903 counters.
Each of the Saturday night Modified events has drawn more than 40 entries.
Joining the Sprints and Modifieds will be the T.P. Truck Equipment Sportsman led by Coplay, PA’s Brad Grim who has 864 points followed by Mark Kemmerer who sits just three points behind. Both will lead a large field of Sportsman talents in the Saturday night action.

It was South Jersey Overhead Door Night at the Bridgeport Speedway for the first race on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track.
Speedway management hoped for a big enough window in the weather to complete the Saturday night show but the window closed as the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman cars took to the track. One lap was completed before the rains came. The cars stayed on the track at first to try to preserve the surface. The starting line-up was then sent to the pits and returned a few minutes later when the rain stopped. But before the race could be restarted, the rain came again, forcing the cancellation of the rest of the show.
South Jersey Overhead Door competitor, Wayne Weaver was the race leader at the end of one lap. This race as well as the Spirit Auto Center Big Block feature will be rescheduled at a later date.
The DA’s Auto Body & Repair Rookies opened the show with their second feature event of the season. Scott Maher, Jr. jumped out to the early lead. Maher led every lap with last week’s winner, Justin Moench following in his tracks. Maher picked up his first victory over Moench and Kathy Buzby.
The Delaware Auto Exchange Mid Atlantic Sprint Series took to the track for their twenty lap feature event earlier in the evening. Jeff Geiges raced to the outside to take the lead as Mark Bitner, Jason Dunn, Andy Best and Tom Carberry followed.
Geiges led the way through the first eight laps with the first caution coming at the start of lap nine as third place competitor, Dunn, spun on entrance to turn one. Another caution followed when several cars tangled in turn two. The result was the No. 39x of Scott Frack taking a ride. There were no injuries.
Geiges restarted from the outside and maintained his lead over Bitner. Best, Carberry and Jon Haegele completed the top five at the half way mark.
The red flag was needed on lap thirteen as contact was made between the cars of Bryant Davis and Dave Brown. Brown ended up going over but neither driver was injured.
Geiges drove to his first win of the season and his first on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track. Geiges credited his family, his crew and his sponsors for the win. After making adjustments throughout the night, Geiges had the winning combination. “Clean air is so important in these cars,” Geiges explained after the win.
Rick Stief, 2018 MASS Champion, Tim Tanner, Ricky DiEva, Larry McVay and Eddie Wagner rounded out the top ten.
Jason Dunn, Geiges and Best were the winners of the three MASS heat races.
Matt Peck and Jim Gallagher, Jr. picked the victories in the qualifiers for the South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman.
David Hunt and Billy Pauch were the winners in the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modified heat races.
Racing will continue on the Design for Vision/Sunglass Central 3/8th mile track next Saturday as the Spirit Auto Center Big Block Modifieds, South Jersey Overhead Door 602 Crate Sportsman, Sunbelt Rentals Outlaw Stocks and DA’s Auto Body & Repairs Rookies. Sunbelt Rentals will be the sponsor for the first Bike Night of the 2019 season. Motorcyclists will be admitted free. Their bikes will be displayed throughout the night with awards being given in certain categories. A number of lucky boys and girls will go home with a brand new bicycle, courtesy of the competitors of the Bridgeport Speedway. Racing gets underway 6:30.
