UMBENHAUER, SCHUTZ , HOUSWORTH AND CASSEL COLLECT FEATURE VICTORIES SATURDAY NIGHT AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. August 26, 2018 . . . Jared Umbenhauer has had to overcome several obstacles throughout the season at Grandview Speedway while trying to collect his first win of the year. Saturday night Umbenhauer finally got the monkey off his back when he parked the Kevin Brown owned No. 19 in victory lane in the 30-lap T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment NASCAR 358 Modified feature. “It felt so good to win commented the Richland Rocket.” “The crew and family stuck by me after the horrendous third turn fire in the early part of the season and Mike Harvey then left me drive his car until we rebuilt.” He also thanked his crew chief Jason Hernley for setting up the car which was really fast that allowed him to keep hitting his marks the last five laps.

The win set Umbenhauer to be a favorite when the Modifieds compete in the Pioneer Pole Buildings Forrest Rogers Memorial 50-lapper, paying $10,000 to win next Saturday.

Chuck Schutz finally had a change of as he was able to chalk up his second 25-lap NACAR Late Model feature win to hit the Big 50 in career wins.

Jim Housworth rejoined the sportsman ranks after missing several weeks and the hard work paid off. Shut out of the win column since April 16, 2016, he was determined to hold off runner-up Craig Whitmoyer’s challenges to post his first win of the current campaign.

All feature winners received a monetary award from T.P. Trailers, product awards from V.P. Racing Fuel providing they met the necessary requirements which also included the Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award. There have been 25 feature winners so far this season spread over the three divisions of racing that regularly compete at the Bechtelsville clay oval.

Andy Cassel was the victor in the 15-lap Blast From the Past Vintage car feature that was in memory of fellow racer Dave Smith who lost his life last year in a work-related incident.

Modified action had sophomore racer Briggs Danner sporting a new car and number, take the early lead trailed by rookies Brian Hirthler and Jordan Henn allowing with Dan Waisempacher and Justin Grim.

Henn’s bad luck continued as while running third he suffered mechanical problems that brought him to a stop in turn one for the first caution with nine laps completed. On the restart Brian Hirthler, who switched over to the Modified ranks from Sportsman in the beginning of July, charged into the lead followed by Umbenhauer, Danner, Ryan Grim and Duane Howard.

Heading out of the fourth turn on the 13th lap, B. Hirthler went a little too high and Umbenhauer scooted underneath him to become the new leader.

Once Umbenhauer was in front he began distancing himself from the others and in a matter of time he encountered lap traffic.

Battling for positions behind Umbenhauer were Howard and Jeff Strunk, who started 12th and 13th respectively, B. Hirthler and Ryan Grim.

The field regrouped putting the competition right on Umbenhauer’s bumper when Bobby Trapper Jr. was spun in the third turn. Umbenhauer wasted no time punching the accelerator when action resumed since he knew Howard, Strunk, B. Hirthler and R. Grim were in pursuit.

Strunk took over second with four laps remaining to attempt to pass Umbenhauer for the lead.

No one was able to overtake Umbenhauer after he held off all challenges to win the feature ending his winless drought since the last time he stood in the winner’s circle was June 24, 2017.Chasing Umbenhauer across were Strunk, Howard, Frank Cozze and Ryan Grim.

B. Hirthler, Howard, Danner and Umbenhauer were the heat winners. The consolation races were won by Brett Kressley and Kenny Gilmore.

These same drivers plus a host of others used this week as a tuning session for the Pioneer Pole Buildings Forrest Rogers Memorial 50-lap race with $10,000 going to the winner. Included in the show will be the Late Model and Sportsman classes.

Drew Weisser set the pace for three laps in the Late Model feature with Schutz chasing him until a three-car tangle in the second turn brought out the caution. On the restart Schutz shot into the lead to put the Ty Zeigler owned mount into first.

Within no time Schutz was walking away with the race making it look easy. Trying to track him down to pressure him were Weisser, Steve Todorow, Wayne Pfeil and Cory Merkel.

Despite a few more restarts Schutz never surrendered the win and went on to claim his second win of the season. Chasing him across were Todorow, Weiss, Pfeil and Lou Egrie.

Sportsman action saw Steve Young grab the early lead and show the way for eight laps until Kenny Bock stopped along the backshute bringing out the yellow. When the race went green again Housworth moved into the lead with Craig Whitmoyer following through for second to challenge. Behind them Young, Jack Butler and Andy Kreis diced for the remaining positions.

Butler’s bids went up in a huge plume of smoke while running third when a blown engine eliminated him bringing out the yellow on the 13th lap. Housworth held his own on the restart with Whitmoyer giving him as run for the money.

Housworth held the outside lane while Whitmoyer stuck to the low groove as the side-by-side battle continued.

Housworth managed to keep the competition behind him to claim the victory followed by Whitmoyer, Mike Lisowski, Brad Brightbill and Mike Mammana.

Young, Whitmoyer and Jesse Landis won the heats. Ryan Beltz won the consi.

In the Vintage feature Todd Lapp led seven laps before Bill Gerhart hit the wall bringing out the yellow. He was uninjured. On the restart Cassel overtook first and immediately began opening daylight.

Once Cassel was first he remained there until the drop of the checkered. Finishing second was Lapp followed by Ron Phillips, Bobby Hall and Rick Mutter.

Accord, NY- Perrego In Modifieds, Rohner In Sportsman Power To Wins In Accord Speedway Action
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media

Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer completed their thirteenth Friday night show of the season last evening after being bombarded with four consecutive rainouts. Mother Nature has been extremely unkind for the past two months to speedway promoters and the overall population in the tri-state area. The crazy weather weather pattern in the Northeast in 2018 has proved to be a nightmare for speedways, amusement parks and resort areas with flooding, storm damage, closed roadways and to the farmers and their crops. Undaunted, the Palmer Family carried on and an exciting seven division show Friday night brought out the largest crowd of the season to not only enjoy the thrill of witnessing the hot racing action but to also see the mighty stars at Accord with the annual Camera and Autograph night. The event was a resounding success as a large crowd went track side to be among their racing idols. For the great roster of drivers who compete at Accord the joy of making the special trip to the WRWD Radio Victory Lane is a highlight for each driver who has done his or her homework to enjoy the sweet celebration that follows. The weather fully cooperated and the enthusiastic crowd came out to the speedway to enjoy a superb evening of speed. The evening was sponsored by the good folks at Shackelton Auto and Mid Hudson Concrete. Their websites are as follows: www.shackeltonauto.com and www.midhudsonconcrete.com

When the final tallies were recorded, "The Montgomery Missile" Anthony Perrego had the hot ticket and went on to capture his second win of the season at Accord in the Insinger Fuel Modifieds. "The Bushkill Bullet" Kyle Rohner hung tough all night long and struck late with a hard charge towards the end to capture the Arkel Motors Sportsman "Joe Giachinta Memorial" main event for his sixth win of the season. Steve Williams was on point and scored his third win of the season in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature attraction. "The Captain" Jeremy Quick had a super fast hot rod as he overcame huge early lead by Mick D’Agostino to score his fourth win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature. Robbie Colbyrn's misfortune turned into a windfall for Michael Corbin as Colbyrn's car failed him on on a restart and Corbin raced to his second win of the season in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature. The Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinder feature was captured by Richard Smith as he scored his fourth win of the season. Smith came back for the Enduro event and captured the win in a race shortened by a gas spill after 22-laps were recorded in the books.

Mark Pullen and Nick Johnston brought the field down for the start of the thirty lap Insinger Fuels 30-lap headliner for the Modifieds. Pullen led the first two laps and then spun on lap three triggering a massive front stretch pile-up that eliminated a few cars from the event. On the restart Joe Judge flexed his right foot and grabbed up the lead with immediate pressure coming from Anthony Perrego, Danny Tyler and Andy Bachetti. Judge would lead until lap twelve when Perrego pulled a slider and took over control of the event. Perrego would lead but now would receive heavy pressure from Judge and Andy Bachetti. Bachetti would slip past Judge and chase Perrego but a collapsed front end put him into the concrete on lap-29. Perrego would prevail for his second win of the season. Joe Judge, who admitted had been struggling with set-ups during the season, found the correct dial as he stayed in the hunt for a runner-up finish, his best finish of the season. Danny Creeden rallied to claim third place while Mike Ricci and Rich Ricci Jr completed the top five. Allison Ricci headed up the second five with a great run after starting in 20th position. Jesse Marks, Rich Ricci III, Rich Eurich and newcomer Rich Coons completed the top ten.

The Arkel Motors Sportsman event pole sitter RJ Smith sprinting into the lead at the drop of the green flag as he out raced Daniel Morgiewicz for the early lead. Smith threatened to runaway and hide early on but a caution for the slowing Tyler Johnston brought out the caution. On the restart, Smith would lead but Kyle Rohner was on the march and began to size up the landscape as he pulled into the runner-up slot. Rohner tried the lowside at different ends of the speedway but Smith held tough and continued to lead. Rohner made the winning move on lap-22 as he got a great run off of the backstretch to push the nose of his race car into the lead. Once in front Rohner sped to the checkered flag and earned a $1,000.00 prize for his efforts. Smith was a strong runner-up with Cole Hentschel finishing third making it a 1-2-3 sweep for the Smith Team. Charlie Loiodice was fourth in a great run and his best finish since transitioning over from the Rookie ranks. Matt Shultz completed the top five after starting from twelfth position. Daniel Morgiewicz headed up the second five with Alex VanPelt, Leo Fotopoulos, Anthony Recchio and Chris VanDuser completing the top ten.

Robbie Colbyrn would lead from the first lap in the WRWD Rookie Sportsman headliner. Michael Corbin and Travis Green kept the pressure on but Colbyrn began stretching the lead until newcomer Zackery Murray spun in turn two. On the restart Colbyrn's car would not respond and Michael Corbin jumped into the lead. Travis Green came up quickly to challenge and the pair waged a war until the checkered flag with Corbin scoring the win with Green in second. John Brown raced to third with Brian Durbin fourth and Travis Cogswell finishing fifth. Zackery Murray and Erin Paulison completed the field.

In the Upstate Auto Pure Stock event, Steve Williams was textbook all of the way as he wired the field on his way to his third win of the season. Bob Sleight would score runner-up honors and Travis Brockner, John Hechinger and the returning Kevin Skelly completing the top five. Jay Samlley, Emerson Cargain, Rich Scott and Ray Tarantino completed the field.

A green flag scramble at the start allowed Mick D'Agostino to bust out to a huge lead early in the encounter. Jeremy Quick would go to work and would begin to shrink the margin. Quick hustled and closed in when D'Agostino got into slower traffic and Quick would take over the point on lap twelve. Once in front, Quick stepped away from the field to go and capture his fourth win of the season. D'Agostino was second with Andrew Davis, Jordan Lawrence, Gary Huston, Mike Traver, Mark Connolly and Kyle Pugliese completing the field.

In the Fireballers feature, Nicole Nelson grabbed the lead at the start and would lead the first four laps before Richard Smith found room at the top to slip past her. Once in front the show belonged to Smith as he led the rest of the way in the lap shortened event for his fourth win of the season. Brandon Conklin was the runner-up in a strong run while Jeff Degroat was third, Nicole Nelson fourth and Jerry Kingeter rounding out the top five in the 22-car field. Ed King headed up the second five with Jesse Torrens, Ryan Heady, Robert Phillips and Ken Barringer completing the top ten.

In the Enduro finale, Dave Donovan led the first lap before limping into the infield. Brandon Conklin took over the lead and would lead until lap number eleven when Richard Smith slipped past for the lead. Smith would carve out a big lead and would be declared the winner when one of the competitors encountered a leaky gas tank necessitating a long clean-up. Jeff Degroat was second with Matt Guadagno, Dave Bendell and Cody Helms completing the top five.

GEMSTONES:

The track was in impeccable condition from top to bottom as Promoter Gary Palmer had a perfectly manicured speedway. Many favorable comments came from the drivers during the interview sessions at trackside during the camera and autograph time allotment.

Heat wins went to Anthony Perrego, Danny Creeden and Danny Tyler in the Modified division. Three heats were needed for the Sportsman with wins going to RJ Smith,Charlie Loiodice and Tyler Johnston. The Rookie Sportsman heats were claimed by Robbie Colbyrn and Michael Corbin. Jeremy Quick captured the sprint car heat win. The Pure Stock heat wins went to Bob Sleight and Travis Brockner. Fireball heat winners included Jerry Kingeter, Willie DeGraw and Ed King.

Grandma Anne's Pies were distributed to the feature winners while two additional pies were handed out during the 50/50 raffle.

A big thank you goes out to Mid Hudson Concrete and Shakelton Auto Parts for their participation at the speedway. Additionally, much thanks to Mid Hudson Concrete adding extra money to the Sportsman feature payout.

LEVAN MACHINE & TRUCK EQUIPMENT ENJOY BIG NIGHT ON THE HILL. . . . . .

AARON REUTZEL DOMINATES ALL STAR SPRINT FEATURE AS BILLY PAUCH SCORES FIRST MODIFIED THUNDER VICTORY IN SMOKE ON THE HILL 2 AT GRANDVIEW THURSDAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA (August 23, 2018) – A pair of first-time NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series winners landed in victory lane Thursday night at Grandview Speedway when Levan Machine and Truck Equipment presented Smoke on the Hill 2. Clute, TX’s Aaron Reutzel picked up his eighth Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions win of the season and Billy Pauch – who holds eleven Thunder Sprint Car wins – picked up his first ever Modified Thunder win. Thirty sprint cars and forty-three 358 modifieds took part in the event that enjoyed sponsorship from NAPA Auto Parts, Levan Machine & Truck Equipment and Pioneer Pole Buildings.

“I’ve never had such good equipment in my life,” Reutzel said after his 8th All Star win of the season propelled him into the points lead. “All of my wins this season are thanks to my team.”

Reutzel led the field to the green, by drag racing side-by-side with Tim Shaffer down into the first corner of the one-third mile Berks County oval. Reutzel’s No. 87 pulled away in dramatic fashion before a lap five yellow slowed the field.

Positions maintained on the restart and four laps clicked off before the red flag flew on the ninth circuit when the No. 44 of Trey Starks ended upside down after an altercation involving Tony Stewart and Lucas Wolfe.

Reutzel held control on the restart with a thrilling battle for second between Tim Shaffer and Paul McMahan while Greg Hodnett challenged Chad Kemenah for the fourth place position.

#87 Winner Aaron Reutzel (Wheels of Speed photo)

While Paul McMahan closed in on Reutzel’s lead -- all eyes were on Freddie Rahmer. The defending Thunder Cup Champion charged into the fifth spot just prior to the halfway point and into the third position just a few laps later.

Lapped traffic hindered Reutzel’s momentum on the 20th trip around the Grandview Speedway closing the distance between the top five competitors. Reutzel held control through lapped traffic with a pair of driver duels behind him Paul McMahan and Freddie Rahmer battled side-by-side for second with Tim Shaffer and Kyle Larson in tandem competing for fourth.

The yellow flew on lap 27 when Shaffer spun while running in the fifth position.

Reutzel continued control on the restart with Rahmer on his rear bumper, while McMahan and Kyle Larson battled for the third position. Larson pulled around McMahan on the high-side – but the yellow flew relegating the Speedweek winner back to fourth position.

With Rahmer and Larson in a heated battle for the runner-up spot – making contact on the backstretch, Reutzel charged away with a sizable advantage and claimed his first NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series victory. Freddie Rahmer came home in second, Kyle Larson finished in third, Paul McMahan in fourth, and Chad Kemenah in fifth.

Kyle Larson #57 ran up against the wall most of the closing laps pounding the cushion in an attempt to get by #51 Freddie Rahmer, but Freddie held on for second. Larson finished third.(Wheels of Speed photo)

The event started off on a high note with Aaron Reutzel smashing a 10-year track record set by Jeff Shepard on May 21, 2008. Reutzel’s time of 11.243 was almost two-tenths of a second faster. Paul McMahan and Freddie Rahmer also set times under the original record with a 11.399 and a 11.402 respectively.

30 Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprint Cars took time. Heat races were won by Spencer Bayston, Danny Dietrich, and Cale Conley. Tim Shaffer scored the victory in the Dash and Mark Smith won the B-Main

#1 Billy ‘The Kid’ Pauch (Wheels of Speed photo)

Frenchtown, New Jersey’s Billy ‘The Kid’ Pauch scored his first NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series Modified victory dominating the 30-lap feature event. Pauch started on the pole and lead brothers, Kevin and Brian Hirthler to the drop of the green.

On the fifth lap, Jeff Strunk powered to third from the seventh starting position and moved around Kevin Hirthler six laps later. Pauch approached lapped traffic on lap 12 before the yellow flag flew for the first time when Brett Kressley spun.

On the restart Pauch took control and held off Jeff Strunk. Strunk closed but couldn’t muster enough to make the pass. Laps ticked off and Pauch claimed the checkered flag. Strunk settled for second, Kevin Hirthler in third, Duane Howard in fourth, and Ryan Godown in fifth.

NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series returns on Saturday, October 13 for the House of Thunder Halloween Party featuring the 21st Annual Big-Block/Small-Block Modified Traffic Jam, Sportsman, and MASS 305 Sprint Cars.

New Egypt, NJ (August 21, 2018) – With the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) having three consecutive appearances at New Egypt Speedway rained out and one held over feature still to be contested, officials from both parties worked together to add the popular winged Sprint Car series to Twin Night, presented by the Flemington Car & Truck Country Family of Dealerships, on Saturday, September 1. MASS will be competing in a regular show with a main event plus the held over feature from April 14.

In addition, the Modifieds will be participating in two 20-lap point races. Billy Pauch Jr., the defending Modified champion, is the new point leader following his second place finish in the race contested on August 18. David VanHorn, who had been leading the title chase for several weeks, dropped out of the feature on Saturday, August 18 with a mechanical issue and now trails Pauch by 23 points. Danny Bouc sits in third place in the standings with John McClelland in fourth and Brandon Grosso in fifth. The four-division racing program on Twin Night, where all twins arriving at the track together being admitted to the grandstand at no charge, will be rounded out by the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars and Crate Modifieds.

On Saturday, September 1 at New Egypt Speedway, the pit gates swing open at 3:00 p.m. and grandstand turnstiles unlock at 4:00 p.m. Hot laps get cranked up at 5:00 p.m. with the first green flag waving at 6:00 p.m. Admission to the grandstand is $25 for adults, $23 for seniors 65 and older, $15 for teens 12-15, $15 for military personal and their spouses with ID, and kids 11 & under are FREE.
