STRUNK WINS SECOND STRAIGHT FREEDOM 76 MODIFIED CLASSIC IN HONOR OF BRUCE ROGERS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY EARNING IN EXCESS OF $30,000
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. September 17, 2017 . . . Jeff Strunk, the defending winner of Grandview Speedway’s Freedom 76, now has the distinction of being the leading winner of the event at seven having been in a tie at six with Billy Pauch. Strunk took home the checkered in the 47th Annual Freedom 76-lap T.P. Trailers NASCAR Modified feature in honor of promoter Bruce Rogers who passed away earlier in the year. The ten-time NASCAR Modified point champion picked up a hefty paycheck of $30,000 in addition to $100 from AARN for being the half-way leader, the Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award plus lap money and a V.P. Racing Fuel award providing he met the necessary requirements.
Strunk made up for a rather dismal season at the 1/3-mile oval in which prior to the night only won one race and that was on June 3, 2017. Strunk and Craig VonDohren, the 2017 Modified point champion, put on quite a battle throughout the race and Strunk commented that VonDohren, who is tough as nails ran him clean while the pair battled throughout the race. There were several times Strunk didn’t know which lane to choose since VonDohren tried the outside and inside which made Strunk change lanes.
Through the luck of the draw, Bob Trapper Jr. started on the pole, but it was second-place starter Billy Pauch that charged into the early lead trailed by Doug Manmiller, Strunk, Scott Albert and Brian Krummel, who started third, sixth,, fifth and seventh respectively.
By lap eighth the top three approaching lapped traffic and had to use heads up driving.
Duane Howard, the winner four times, slowed his pace on the 11th lap for the first yellow and was through for the night. The restart had Pauch and Strunk side-by-side, but when action resumed Pauch washed up coming out of turn four. Strunk took advantage of the situation and motored the Glenn Hyneman-owned/All Fab No. 126 into first.
Within no time Strunk opened up a commanding lead while Pauch, Manmiller, Brian Krummel and Albert chased him down.
Godown looped it in the first turn setting up a seven-car accident in which Nate Christman, running for the first time all year, took a slow roll for the 21st lap red. All drivers were thankfully uninjured, but the same couldn’t be said for the cars of Brett Kressley and Tim Buckwalter as they were out of contention. Christman later returned during another caution, but he couldn’t continue because he was three laps down. Strunk maintained first on the restart, but Pauch, Manmiller, Von Dohren and Krummel gave him no margin to error.
Strunk was able to increase the distance as the race progressed since Pauch and VonDohren battled for the runner-up spot because VonDohren cleared Pauch on the 28th lap and took chase after Strunk.
By the 32nd lap VonDohren gained a tremendous amount of ground on Strunk when the front runners encountered heavy lap traffic.
VonDohren had just moved ahead, but before the lap counted, a mandatory pit stop on the 45th lap made the move void. The first five on the restart consisted of Strunk, VonDohren, Manmiller and Kevin Hirthler, who started 22nd and 21st place starter Jared Umbenhauer. It wasn’t long before Kenny Gilmore joined the mix and got past Umbenhauer for fifth.
Ryan Watt regrouped the pack with 16 laps to go when he stopped in the fourth turn for a yellow. Strunk wasted no time punching the accelerator on the restart because he knew VonDohren was just waiting to pounce if he faltered.
Strunk never gave up until he was in Victory Lane for his biggest win of the year followed by VonDohren, Hirthler, Gilmore and Mike Gular, who came through from 27th. Rounding out the top ten were Manmiller, Umbenhauer, Krummel, Frank Cozze and Brandon Grosso.
Cozze, Hirthler, Justin Grim, Brett Kressley and Krummel won the five qualifying heats. Mike Lisowski and Danny Erb won the consolation races to advance to the Schaeffer Motorsports Minuteman 20-lap race which was the last chance to get into the Freedom.
Brett Kressley garnered an extra $1,000 by winning the 10-lap Pioneer Metal Roofing Cash Dash.
Ryan Beltz, Willman, Billy Pauch Jr., Rick Laubach and Matt Stangle were able to earn starting berths in the Freedom by being the top five finishers in the Minuteman race.

RYAN BELTZ WINS FREEDOM 38’ER SPORTSMAN FEATURE AND KYLE SMITH TAKES MASS SPRINT CAR WIN AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY NIGHT
BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 16, 2017. . . Seasoned veteran Ryan Beltz fought it out with youngster Ryan Lilick right down to the wire to go on and claim a very popular win, Friday night at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA, pocketing $1,500 for his triumph in the fourth annual Sportsman Freedom 38’er. With his win, the 43-year-old Beltz became the 13th different driver to earn a Sportsman feature win this season, taking his first win this season, the second of his career and his first since May 28, 2016. The win makes Beltz the fourth different driver to win the event in its four-year race history.
In a companion 25-lap feature event for the Mid-Atlantic 305 Sprint Series at the high-banked third-mile dirt track, a dominating triumph was scored by Kyle Smith in his first visit ever to the track.
“I am certain I drove the only four coil car at the track tonight to victory,” announced Beltz, following a roof dance in victory lane. “I’ve got to give thanks to Ryan Watt for all the help he has given us this season, plus Bicknell Race Cars. We just went back to basics tonight. We had a different engine in and just haven’t had a lot of luck here the last few weeks. We had a good race car and everything just came together for us here tonight.”
Following the heat races the top 20 qualified cars, all, picked for spots in a blind draw, with Brian Hirthler, 35, out of Perkiomenville, PA picking the pole to start, with former 358 Modified racer Doug Pannepacker pulling outside the front row. Beltz picked third to start in the 26-car starting field.
With the green waved by starter Ray Kemp it was Hirthler setting the early pace aboard his self-owned No. 4* Four Star Letting Sportsman mount over Pannepacker and Beltz through the first five tours. On lap 6 it was Beltz moving into the runner-up role, dropping Pannepacker to third.
With seven in the record books, Hirthler had nearly a full straightaway lead over Beltz, steering his self-owned KAM Fueled Racing No. 221 entry.
Craig Whitmoyer, 42, of Hamburg, PA, who won the event back in 2015 and started from eighth Friday night, was on the move and by lap 13 he advanced into fourth-place behind Beltz and Pannepacker. A lap 19 caution slowed things and regrouped the field, erasing the big lead held by Hirthler.
When racing resumed it was Hirthler out in front again over Whitmoyer, who ducked underneath Beltz through turn 3 on the restart, and Beltz now running in third. Pannepacker fell back to fourth, with Lilick, who started fourteenth, moving to fifth.
By lap 25 Hirthler again started to pull away, holding a comfortable lead.
Lilick began to pick off positions and took fourth with seven circuits to go. A lap later, Whitmoyer saw his night come to an early end when his motor expired in a huge cloud of smoke to bring out the caution with six to go.
On the double-file restart Hirthler selected to start from the outside, putting Beltz on the bottom. With the green, it was Beltz outgunning Hirthler and becoming the new race leader for lap 33. Lilick advanced to third and took second a lap later, as Hirthler dropped back to third.
“He kept picking the top on the restarts and I just kept praying, eventually, I’d get the jump and we did,” Beltz said. “Everybody was going to the top and I figured, eventually, they’d rub everything away up on top and I still had good grip on the bottom. I got a good run on him the previous restart, but he held on.”
With a lap remaining, Lilick hit Beltz hard, but Beltz held on, as they battled for the win.
“When he hit me I wound up losing my brakes. That last lap I was driving it balls to the wall or else without brakes,” explained the driver out of Schwenksville, PA. “I figured at the end if he went high I’d go low and if he stayed low I’d go high. I wasn’t about to give it away and settle for second.”
Racing through turns 3 and 4 with the checkered waving, Lilick drifted up to the top to protect, as Beltz drove it in on the bottom. Beltz had the edge exiting turn 4 and crossed the line first, winning by a narrow margin over Lilick at the line.
Third went to Hirthler, trailed by Brad Grim, Brett Gilmore and Brian Papiez, who started the event from 21st with the original green.
Heat races for 50 Sportsman entries were won by Hirthler, Mike Lisowski, Ryan Higgs and Beltz. Twin consolations went out to Papiez and Matt Stangle.
In the 25-lap Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series (MASS) feature race it was Brian Krummel, who started outside the front row taking the early lead over pole sitter Steph Carberry and third-starter Austin Bishop. By lap 6, Krummel held a safe lead.
Lap 12 it was still Krummel setting a torrid pace, as Bishop slipped into second, as the leaders raced through heavy slower, lapped traffic. Carberry fell into third. A lap later, Samantha Lieberman spun out in turn 3, as Bishop tried to avoid the spinning car. Bishop darted to the outside and smacked the boiler plate wall hard to bring out the red at the crossed flags.
With the restart it was Carberry outracing Krummel off turn 4 to become the new race leader. Smith roared into second spot, with Krummel falling to third. Smith quickly went by Carberry to become the new race leader, with Carberry dropping to second on lap 15. A lap later Krummel spun it out in turn 2 to bring out a caution.
Smith retook the top spot in front of Carberry and by lap 21 Smith was nearly a full straightaway out in front of Carberry. Eddie Wagner was running third, with Dave Brown now fourth.
Smith easily secured the win, with Carberry, Wagner, Eddie Strada and Tim Tanner Jr. chasing him.
Heat races for 30 Sprint Cars were claimed by Wagner, Bishop and Krummel. The consolation win went to Stephanie Dodson.
Some 25 358 Modified cars were also on hand for several practice sessions throughout the evening of racing.

The Ulster County weather was warm and breezy although there still remained a threat of rain in the air. The Accord Speedway was in top form and a solid roster of drivers and a standing room only crowd proved to be a win/win for Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer to host their annual King of the Catskills event at the speedway. Working right up until race time, Gary Palmer had the pristine quarter mile clay speedplant in impeccable condition and the attention to detail enabled the solid field of Modified and Sportsman competitors to race wall to wall throughout the evening of racing events. The evening of speed was headlined by sponsor Bruce Insinger and his Insinger Fuel Team. Check them out on the web at: www.insingerperformance.com
When all was said and done, Modified short track specialist "Showtime" Danny Tyler jumped on the talented Modified field at the drop of the green flag and never looked back as he dominated the racing action in a wire to wire triumph at the speedway. The win for Tyler was his first King of the Catskills triumph and Tyler walked away with the $5,000.00 prize that went along with it. In the Arkel Motors Sportsman Joe Giachinta Memorial 30-lap shootout, "The Bushkill Bullet" Kyle Rohner dominated the event to capture the win and the $1,500.00 pay day that awaited him in the WRWD Radio Victory Lane. In the Nightcap for the Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball Cylinder Enduros, Johnny Bankich led and then he didn't, but he continued to challenge and was able to overcome all foes to go on and win his second Enduro event of the season and with the win walk away with a hefty haul of money.
Twenty-four Modifieds took off in a run for the roses in the King of the Catskills headliner with Danny Tyler wasting no time to blast out into the lead. Danny Creeden followed and stayed close to Tyler early in the event. A few early skirmishes dropped some quality talent from the field as Anthony Perrego, Mike Ricci and Richie Eurich were some of the early casualties. On each restart Tyler was able to get the great starts as he glued himself to the top of the stairs while Creeden was doing some solid work from the baseline.
Things were beginning to heat up as the two Dannys were up to the task to lead the way. From tenth starting spot came Scott Ferrier as he silently placed himself in contention. From 15th starting spot came former three time Accord Speedway Champion "The Statesman" Jerry Higbie. Higbie worked high and low to move in behind Tyler, Creeden and Ferrier.
As the laps clicked off, Tyler was able to separate himself a bit from the field but a jingle here and there slowed the speedway action. On the restarts Tyler was flawless and was able to click off some 13.1 second lap times. Tyler would go on and capture his first King of the Catskills win with Creeden in the runner-up role in the Loidice hot rod. Scott Ferrier was third with Higbie fourth and Kevin Ward giving the Montgomery Car Wash racer a great ride for fifth. Heading up the second five were Brian Malcolm, Andy Bachetti, Joe Judge, Richard Smith and Ed Dachenhausen.
Brandon McGill led the first lap for the 30-lap Sportsman main event named in honor of the late Joe Giachinta. Giachinta was a true gentleman and friend of the speedway and lost his life in an industrial accident two season ago. Matt Shultz took over on lap two and then it would be the high flying Kyle Rohner taking over the lead on lap three and the maneuver would act as the winning pass as Rohner, once in front, was never headed for the rest of the event. Rohner would receive the win and the big payday that went with it. Matt Shultz was solid in a runner-up role with Corey Cormier doing excellent work in third place. Tyler Johnston and Tony Kowlachuk completed the top five. The second five positions were steady Brandon McGill, Joey Bonetti, Connor Otten, Robbie Knipe and Mike DuBois.
The veteran campaigner and four time winner Dave Donovan wasted no time in charging to the front in the 50-lap Emmanuel's Marketplace Four Cylinder Enduro excursion. Donovan, who has excelled over the field in 2017, led through seven laps until yielding to Dan Curry. Curry was quick from top to bottom and would lead from lap eight until lap-40 when Johnny Bankich passed him by. Curry didn't give up and took back the lead on lap-44. Curry got a flat tire while leading and Bankich struck again as he slipped past Curry on lap-47 and Bankich would go on and win the event. Curry limped home second with former Street Stock campaigner Gene Helms enjoyed a solid run for third place honors.
GEMSTONES:
The showcased event of the season at Accord for the Palmer Family was another spectacular event for the successful New York promotional team now in their 17th season at operating their Ulster County facility. The racing was superb as every Modified and Sportsman heat resembled a mini feature event. The standing room only crowd came from far and wide with as many as eight states representing the statewide support of the tremendous racing activity. Parking was at a premium and the grounds were abuzz with excitement for the long awaited evening of racing at the "Gem in the Catskills". The turnstiles of fans filled the concession areas all night long as they devoured the great cuisine offered up by the speedway concessions.
24 Modifieds made their way to the pit area along with 42 sportsman and 23 Four Cylinder Enduros. Three heats were needed for the Modifieds with David Hunt, Andy Bachetti and Danny Creeden scoring wins. The Sportsman division cars ran six heats with Brandon McGill, Kyle Rohner, Connor Otten, Corey Cormier, Danny Morgiewicz and Matt Shultz scoring wins. Three Sportsman B-Mains were needed and won by Cole Hentschel, Joey Bonetti and Robbie Knipe.
Many drivers on this evening did not make the final transfer into the feature and the speedway management would like to thank everyone for making a fine effort to attempt to get into the lineup. Sportsman drivers included Mike Murphy, Ryan McCartney, Jeff Higham, John DeWitt, Lenny Helmich, Collin DuBois, Lem Atkins, Mike Senecal, Rafael Carson, Fred Smith, Jared Miller, Austin Helmich, Alex VanPelt, Jim Kraus, Mike Bull, Vinny Visconti, John Miller and Jason Armstrong.
The Giachinta Family was at the speedway and presented the Joe Giachinta Cup to the winner
Speedway management thanks all of our drivers and fans for a great season at the speedway.
Leni Fornino was back once again to belt a stirring rendition of hte National Anthem.
Good friend and Announcer Justin Beltrame joined Steve Pados and Tim Adams in the tower for the event.
Halloween Havoc is next up on the Accord Speedway schedule. The date is October 28th with a full itinerary of racing and fun things for the families of racing to enjoy. Tonight fans will be entertained with a doubleheader show of Mid Atlantic Sprint Series 305 Sprints and Sportsman stock cars as they get warmed up for the big show, the Freedom 76, on Saturday. Point leader Bill Stief has Tommy Carberry chasing him for the MASS title. Just two points separate the top two with Eddie Wagner, Tim Tanner Jr and Jeff Geiges close behind.
The Sportsman racers will be racing in the Freedom 38’er that pays $1,500 to the winner. Actually only those who survive the qualifying events will get to chase for the $1,500. Most of the track regulars are expected to see action with a number of visitors.
Racing will get the green flag at 7 p.m. with adult admission priced at just $12. Youngsters 6 through 11 pay $5 and kids under 6 are admitted for free. Pit admission, no license required, is $30. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Fans are reminded that advance tickets for the Freedom 76 will be on sale Friday night. Adult tickets are $35 while on Saturday the price is $40. Youngsters 6 through 11 pay $10 and kids under 6 are admitted free. Pit passes are $45 with no license required.
Bright and early on Saturday dozens of Modifieds will be making their way into the pit area to be inspected. Activities start with pit gates open at 9 a.m. Competitors must be registered by 4 p.m. while competitors will draw for starting positions at 4:30 p.m. A drivers meeting is set for 5:15 p.m. with warm-ups at 6 p.m.
Additional drivers, in addition to those already announced, include feature winners Clay Butler, Brian Krummel, Kevin Hirthler and Brett Kressley. Fan favorites entered include Bobby Gunther Walsh, John Willman, Joe “Geezer” Fanelli, Ken Gilmore, Mike Laise, Ron Seltman, Ryan Beltz, Kory Fleming, Nate Christman, Justin Grim, veteran Doug Pannepacker, and other surprise last minute entries representing a variety of area speedways.
Advance ticketholders will be admitted on Saturday at 3 p.m. with ticket windows open at 3:30 p.m. Racing gets the green at 7 p.m. A full slate of qualifying events, the Pioneer Metal Roofing Cash Dash, Schaefer Motorsports Minuteman 20 leading up to the grand finale the $30,000 to win Freedom 76.
Parking and camping is available on the speedway grounds. Some areas, not on the speedway grounds, will have fees.

BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 13, 2017 . . . Most are talking about the $30,000 to win 47th Annual Freedom 76 Classic In Honor of Bruce Rogers featuring many of the top names in dirt track Modified stock car racing at Grandview Speedway on Saturday, September 16th at 7 p.m.
The latest top talents to enter the Classic are Jimmy Horton, recently declared Modified champion at Orange County Speedway, and Stewart Friesen who has been racing in the NASCAR Truck Series along with winning in dirt track Modifieds. Friesen is a past winner of the Freedom 76. 2017 Grandview NASCAR Sportsman champion Brian Hirthler will be moving up to the Modifieds to challenge for the big win.
However there is actually two nights of racing excitement going on as the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series 305 Sprints are featured in doubleheader action on Friday night along with the Freedom 38’er Sportsman race paying $1500 to win.
The hard-charging Sprinters known for their action racing on the one-third-mile, banked clay track and the exciting Sportsman stock cars will get fans warmed up for the great racing action they will see on Saturday night with the Modified stock cars. Rick Stief leads Tommy Carberry by just 2 points in the MASS point standings. And Modified racers planning to be part of the Saturday action are welcome to run some practice laps.
Adult admission for the Friday night show is just $12 with youngsters 6 thru 11 paying $5 and kids under six being admitted free. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with racing starting at 7 p.m.

BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 10, 2017 . . . Many of the top names in dirt track Modified stock car racing have won the Freedom 76 Classic at Grandview Speedway. And there are many top names in the sport that are still without a win in the prestigious race. Many past winners and non-winners will be entered in the September 16th 47th Annual Freedom 76 Run in Honor of Bruce Rogers, the richest event of its type in the area, looking to grab the $30,000 first place money and the prestige that goes with the victory.
Some of the past winners of the Freedom 76 include Fred Rahmer, Doug Hoffman, Billy Pauch (six times a winner), Ray Swinehart, Stewart Friesen, Kenny Brightbill, Meme DeSantis (three times a winner), Craig VonDohren (a five time winner), Jeff Strunk (six times a winner including last year) Duane Howard ( four wins) and the list goes on. Some of them will be back trying to add to their impressive resumes.
And there will be many top names looking to gain that first win. Entered are Billy Pauch Jr., Ryan Godown, Ryan Watt, Mike Gular, Mike Mahaney, Jared Umbenhauer, Doug Manmiller, Mike Lisowski, Clay Butler, Bobby Trapper, Brian Krummel, Tim Buckwalter, Brian and Brett Kressley, with many more to come.
The Saturday, September 16th event will include a full schedule of qualifying events, a $1,000 to win Pioneer Metal Roofing Cash Dash, the Schaffer Motorsports Minuteman 20 and the 76-lap Freedom 76.

Bobby Gunther Walsh and his race team sponsors including Just Born Candies and Mrs T’s Pierogies has posted $500 for the Hard Charger Award while Len Sammons and his Motorsports 2018 Racing Trade Show and his Allentown indoor racing events have posted $100 for the leader at the halfway mark.
The night before the Freedom 76 there will be a doubleheader show featuring the Sportsman stock cars and Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series 305 Sprints. Sportsman will top their night with a 38-lap feature, the Freedom 38’er paying $1500 to win. Modifieds entered in the Freedom 76 will be allowed practice time. Adult admission is $12 while youngsters, 6 thru 11, pay $5 and kids under 6 enter free.
Racing both nights starts at 7 p.m.
Rain date for the Freedom 76 is Saturday, September 23rd while the night before events will not be rescheduled should there be a rainout.
Camping on the speedway grounds is permitted in the 4th turn area of the parking lot. There are no hookups available. No open fires are permitted. No saving of spaces allowed. Some areas for parking may have fees.
The 47th annual Freedom 76 will close out the regular Saturday night schedule of racing events except for the October 14th Thunder on the Hill Halloween Party that will feature the Mods at the Madhouse Big Block/358 Modifieds in a 40 lapper, Sportsman and MASS Sprints.
