Accord, NY- Danny Creeden Smokes The Field To Capture Accord Speedway Modifieds
By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
The 2017 racing season has all of the makings of the summer that was never was as rain, rain and more rain has continuously altered what many families have planned for the so-called summer vacation months. The same can be said for race track promoters as the unpredictable weather has left promoters scrambling for all that can be salvaged. This past Thursday finally saw a break in the weather and placed Promoter Gary Palmer in a total catch-up capacity in order to have the Accord Speedway ready for the Friday night racing action. Palmer accomplished his mission by race time and the seven division show went off without a hitch and produced positive results for some while for others it was back to the shop or garages to attempt to coax more speed out of their race cars. The evening of speed was presented by Williams Lumber. Their website is: www.williamslumber.com The checkered flag bonus was posted by Dreaming of the Mouse Vacations.
Securing wins at the sixth event of the season were "The DC Express" Danny Creeden as he blistered through the field to capture his first Modified win of the season at Accord. Brandon McGill put on a strong show and held off a group of top talent to go on and capture his first win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman division finale. Garden Stater Rich Mellor worked his magic off of the hub rail to earn his first win of the season in his Woodland Trucking sponsored Sprinter. Emerson Cargain Jr regained his winning form to wire the field in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature run. Tyler Banks led all of the way to capture the National tour win in the Want Ad Digest Junior Slingshot main event. "The Italian Stallion" Vinny Visconti earned a hard fought win in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature and it was his first victory at Accord in a full size division racer.
Richie Eurich blasted into the lead at the start of the United Pump & Tank Modified main with Scott Ferrier in tow. Eurich gave way to Scott Ferrier after some laps of trading the lead back and forth with the narrowest of margins. Jimmy Wells made some early move to become a player and Danny Creeden came hustling forward in his Smokers Choice Sponsored hot rod. Creeden made the most of the race track as he closed the distance between he and Wells and then set out after Ferrier. Creeden dogged Ferrier for a few laps and found the winning move off of turn four on lap twenty. Once in front, Creeden became the man with a plan as he led the remaining laps although the final laps produced a strong running Jimmy Wells and he closed the distance but it would be Creeden capturing the win with Wells in a runner-up role. Scott Ferrier was third with Jesse Marks and Danny Tyler from 17th position rounding out the top five. Heading up the second five were Brad Rothaupt, Joe Judge, Richard Smith, Brian Malcolm and Anthony Perrego.
The Arkel Motors Sportsman main proved to be another fantastic show. Brandon McGill outhustled Milton Mann at the start to assume command of the lead but Mann had ideas of his own and began to apply pressure to McGill from all angles of the raceway. At times Mann was able to pull even only to have McGill squeezing a bit more throttle to his racer to remain at the point. After troubles in his heat event relinquished Kyle Rohner to a 20th position start, the former two time track champion blasted forward and by lap seven had moved into the top five. By the midway point, the race was still a five car battle with McGill, Mann and Rohner now stepping away from the field. With five to go, Mann tried again to unseat McGill but McGill remained a tough hombre and fought off the advances to claim his first win of the season. Mann did a great job as he finally was able to finish a race with a fine runner-up performance. Rohner was third in a stellar drive with Jim Johnson and Tony Kowalchuk completing the top five. Tyler Johnston, Cole Hentschel, Robbie Knipe, Leo Fotopolous and Matt Shultz rounded out the top ten.
The Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature attraction found Emerson Cargain jump out front with a great start and although the field remained close it would be Cargain leading all laps on his way to his first victory at the speedway in a few seasons. John Hechinger was second with Chris Kanuk in an excellent run grabbing third place. Travis Brockner, Steve Williams, Ray Tarantino, Allen Tarantino, Harry Bachman and Tanner Granacker completed the field.
Eric Jennings led the first two laps of the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car finale but a slick running Rich Mellor slipped past him with an excellent move off of the baseline to take over the lead. As they raced back into turns one and two Jennings had climbed to the top of the speedway in an attempt to grab the lead but got sideways and ripped the tail tank off of his sprinter. On the restart, Mellor got a challenge from Heidi Hedin but Mellor turned up the wick and raced to his first win of the season. Jeremy Quick raced hard and grabbed up second late in the race with Heidi Hedin third, Larry Ricci and Larry McVay following. .
Vinny Visconti led the first two laps of the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman main but was overtaken by Ryan McCartney on a restart. McCartney would lead for three laps until Visconti would grab the lead back on a restart in lap six. A couple of laps later McCartney and Jake Granacker were seeking the same piece of real estate and got together. On the restart, Visconti was still in command but now would be pressured by Hunter Lapp. Lap twelve found McCartney hard into the Redi Rock wall. On the final restart Visconti held on and captured his win ever in the full size division race cars. Lapp was second in a great run for him, Jimmy Devitt was third, George Begg fourth and Jared Miller fifth. John Miller, Michael Corbin, Jake Granacker, RJ Daley and Tanner Johnson rounded out the top ten.
The National Tour for the Want Ad Digest Junior Slingshot main event found Tyler Banks hustling his JCO Environmental Services hot rod to the front from his outside pole start. Banks pulled away from the field and built up a good lead until young Brock Pinkerous became involved in a losing battle with the second turn boiler plated and getting upside down. Pinkerous was unhurt in the incident. On the restart, it was still Banks at the point but Jake Mason, who was on a five feature win streak at Accord, came a calling. Mason tried everything he had to unseat Banks and even ran side by side on a couple of laps but it would be Tyler Banks earning his first win at Accord and on the National Tour circuit. Mason was a solid second with Tanner VanDoren third, Tyler Ulsh fourth, Shelby McLaughlin fifth and Adam Buchel sixth. Nico Flammer has been a strong runner all season but as he made a bid in his heat event, something went amiss with his racer and withdrew for the evening.
GEMSTONES:
Racing began later than normal as Promoter Gary Palmer put in a ton of extra hours to have the track ready and racy for the evening's events. He accomplished his mission as the track saw four channels of racing taking place and some dared to go five wide. Unfortunately, lightning struck the lap counter during the week and was rendered unusable for the evening.
Heat races were run off quickly and Rich Mellor captured the lone heat for the sprinters. Tanner VanDoren and Tyler Banks captured the Junior Slingshot heats. Rookie heats were claimed by Vinny Visconti and Tanner Johnson. The lone Pure Stock heat was captured by John Hechinger. Sportsman heats went to Leo Fotopolous, Tony Kowalchuk and Robbie Knipe. Modified heats found Danny Creeden, Richie Eurich and Brian Malcolm capturing wins.
Mike Traver returned to action in the Sportsman. Allan Tarantino returned to action in the Pure Stocks. Junior Slingshot drivers included Nico Flammer, Tyler Ulsh, Tanner VanDoren, Adam Buchel, Shelby McLaughlin and Kyle Swart.
The fine folks at Williams Lumber brought out one of their trucks to pace the Modified feature and Sue and Gleason headed up the contingent of Williams folks enjoying the races. They brought along T-shirts, carry bags and hats that were handed out to the feature event winners while Miss Accord Speedway, Michelle Campbell offered shirt and hats out to the crowd.
Grandma Ann's Pies were also handed out to all of the feature winners.

PAUCH PICKS UP HIS FOURTH WIN OF THE YEAR AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY
New Egypt, NJ (June 4, 2017) – For the fourth time this year, Billy Pauch, Jr. won the 358 Modified feature at New Egypt Speedway. Jason Dunn was victorious in the Crate Modified main event. The Street Stock feature was taken by John Meyer. David Burns and Rick Wegner, Sr. picked up wins in the Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman features.
As the 30-lap 358 Modified feature got underway, Bryan Kuhl jumped to the front with Chris Grbac and Andrew Bohn next in line. By lap six, Kuhl had developed a comfortable lead over his rivals with Grbac and Bohn dueling for the runner-up spot. After ten tours, Kuhl’s advantage was a full straightaway with Grbac, Bohn, Steve Davis and John McClelland racing in the top five. On lap 13, Davis drove by Bohn to gain third and began to battle Grbac for second. Just as Kuhl was catching the rear of the field, the seventeenth place starting Billy Pauch, Jr. continued his ascent towards the front by moving into fourth place on the seventeenth circuit. By lap twenty, Kuhl was maintaining his lead by maneuvering through lap traffic with Davis in second and Pauch, Jr. in third. Two revolutions later, Pauch, Jr. worked his way by Davis with Ryan Godown in fourth. The first caution of the race took place on the twenty-third lap for Ryan Krachun. On the restart, Pauch, Jr. outgunned Kuhl to take command of the pack. The second yellow flag waved one lap later again for Krachun. When the green flag was shone, Pauch, Jr. kept his lead with Godown motoring into second and Kuhl slipping back to third. Pauch, Jr. survived one additional restart with two circuits remaining to secure his fourth win of the year. Godown, who started the race in thirteenth, was the runner-up. Kuhl’s strong performance resulted in a third place finish. Fourth place went to Steve Davis with veteran Willie Osmun taking fifth. The 358 Modified heat winners were Andrew Bohn, Rocco Infante, and Steve Davis.
In the Crate Modified feature, Jason Dunn took the lead on the second tour from Jordan Cox and paced the field for the remaining circuits to win the 16-lap event. The race, originally scheduled for 20-laps, was shortened when the thirty minute time limit was met. The win was Dunn’s first in the Crate Modified division after two previous victories in the Sportsman class. Dan Fleming was second. Eighteenth place starting Ryan Simmons finished in third. Cox was fourth and fifth was taken by John Criscione. Jason Dunn, Jordan Cox, and John Criscione won the Crate Modified qualifying races. Kyle Kania was the victor in the consolation contest.
John Meyer led from start to finish to grab his second career feature win in the 15-lap Street Stock feature. Ron Frees came home in second. A good battle for third place was earned on the last lap by Mick Search. Bill Liedtka, the heat race winner, was fourth and Billy Wroble completed the event in fifth.
In the first 8-lap feature for the Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman, David Burns overtook Joseph Brown on the fifth circuit to collect his fifth feature win of the year. Brown, Rick Wegner, Sr., Rob Mancini and Walt McIntyre completed the field.
Rick Wegner, Sr. was awarded the victory in the second 8-lap Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman feature after the car of the apparent winner, David Burns, did not meet the minimum post-race weight. Walt McIntyre, Joseph Brown and Rob Mancini rounded out the top four.
On Saturday, June 10, the May Modified Madness Finale takes place for the 358 Modifieds. Four drivers, Danny Bouc, Steve Davis, Ryan Godown and Billy Pauch, Jr., will battle it out for the May Modified Madness title with the top finishing driver in the feature taking home the 2017 title. The Hammer Sportsman, Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars, Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman and the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club will be in action as well. The pit and spectator gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Hot laps crank up at 6:00 p.m. and the first green flag flies at 7:00 p.m. Admission to the grandstand is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors 65 and older, $10 for teens 12-15, $10 for military personal and their spouses with ID, and kids 11 & under are FREE. WHITMOYER TOPS IN SUMMER SPLASH SPORTSMAN SPECIAL WHILE STRUNK AND KLINE GRAB FEATURE WINS IN NASCAR STOCK CAR RACING AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY SATURDAY NIGHT
15 DIFFERENT FEATURE WINNERS DURING SIX SATURDAY NIGHT SHOWS
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. June 4, 2017 – Craig Whitmoyer has been struggling with engine issues and other mechanical problems this season in the NASCAR Sportsman ranks at Grandview Speedway, but Saturday night the Hamburg leadfoot had his self-owned No. 99 in top notch condition for the Summer Splash 40-lap feature when he scored his season first win for a payday in excess of $1,500. Whitmoyer had to hold off numerous challenges from runner-up Joe Funk III, who posted his season best run and also deal with heavy lapped traffic.
The T.P. Trailers 30-lap NASCAR 358 Modified feature was quite a battle between Mike Kellner and eventual winner Jeff Strunk. The pair battled through restarts and lap traffic before Strunk took advantage when Kellner went too high off the third turn and Strunk dove the Keystone Racing No. 126 underneath him with two laps to take the lead. It was Strunk’s first win of the year at the 1/3-mile, banked clay oval and his 66th Saturday night career win. Through all the side-by-side racing Strunk and Kellner never made contact proving it can be done.
Ron Kline posted back-to-back victories in the BRC NASCAR 25-lap Late Model feature for his third triumph of the season chased across the line by Chuck Schutz in the car normally driven by Andy Cassel since he had problems in his car in the timed hot laps.
All three feature winners collected bonus bucks from TP Trailers and Truck Equipment and product awards from VP Racing Fuels provided they met various requirements.
There have now been 15 different feature winners this season with no repeat winners in the Modified division after six Saturday night programs.
Paul Houseknecht took the early lead in the Sportsman feature and held that spot until the ninth lap restart needed when Andrew Kreis spun in the third turn with Kurt Bettler also involved since he had nowhere to go. On the restart Brad Arnold motored to the front of the pack. That was short-lived however as a flat tire brought Arnold to an abrupt halt along the homestretch one lap later. This incident put Whitmoyer at the head of the pack when action went green again. Pressuring Whitmoyer were Funk III, Mark Kemmerer, Houseknecht and Brad Grim.
A flat tire slowed Ryan Lilick’s pace in turn two for the 12th lap yellow. After a quick pit stop he rejoined the race. Whitmoyer held his high line on the restart while Funk III ran the bottom groove in an attempt to take the lead away.
Funk III began to close in on Whitmoyer, who had a slight edge over the pack, with Kemmerer, Brian Hirthler and Ryan Lilick, coming on strong after his pit stop.
Whitmoyer and Funk III ran door-handle to door-handle for several laps without incident and dealt with heavy traffic.
Jeromy Guistwite spun in the fourth turn for the last caution on the 35th lap which meant a single file restart. Lined up behind Whitmoyer were Funk III, Hirthler, Lilick and Louden Reimert.
Whitmoyer never faltered and held off all competitors to pull into the winner’s circle for the first time since the opener April 2016. It was his seventh career win. Finishing second was Funk III trailed by Hirthler, Lilick and Reimert.
Heats were won by Kemmerer, Paul Houseknecht and Guistwite. Mike Mammana was the consi winner.
Modified feature action saw Kellner charge to the front of the 29-car starting grid to set the pace with pressure from several competitors.
Mike Mahaney slowed along the backstretch with a flat tire for the fifth lap caution. The restart had Kellner still the leader, but now the son-father team of Steve and Ray Swinehart, Strunk and Grim lined up behind him.
Strunk overtook second on the sixth lap caution brought out by a multi-car third turn tangle to put his bids in for the lead.
Kellner ran a high line while Strunk tried to dive underneath him several times, but to no avail as Kellner out pulled him when they were side-by-side. R. Swinehart made it a three-way battle for first at one occasion, but that didn’t last long.
With four laps to go S. Swinehart, running sixth, stopped along the backstretch as his bad luck continued.
Kellner kept Strunk at bay on the restart, but Strunk didn’t give up.
Coming out of turn three with two laps to go, Kellner was up high in the marbles and Strunk emerged as the new leader.
For the second week in a row the feature ended under checkered/caution but that didn’t change the outcome and Strunk was the victor this time. What triggered the checkered/caution was Frank Cozze dove underneath Kellner, hit the yuke tire and spun. Cozze lost his third spot and a few others were collected in the accident. Kellner hung on for second followed by R. Swinehart, Craig Von Dohren and Duane Howard, who put on quite a battle in the later stages for third through fifth.
Blaine Bracelin, R. Swinehart and Jared Umbenhauer won the heats. Consolation races were won by Kevin Hirthler and Kyle Borror.
Late model action saw Dave Ogin, driving the car normally piloted by Blaine Emery take the early lead followed by Steve Todorow, Kyle Merkel, Kline and Steve Wilson.
Kline took over second on the 15th lap and set his sights on Ogin. Behind them Schutz, Todorow and Merkel jockeyed for the remaining spots.
Lou Egrie Sr. spun in the fourth turn to bring out the final caution on lap 21. At the same time Merkel, in the thick of the battle dropped out of contention. Ogin was still the leader when action resumed, but Kline made his presence known.
Kline became the new leader with three laps remaining and never looked back to chalk up his 39th career win. Schutz was able to grab second followed by Ogin, Wayne Pfeil and Bryon Sipe.
NASCAR stock car racing action returns to Grandview Speedway on Saturday, June 10th with the running of Whelen Engineering Night featuring the TP Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds, Sportsman and BRC Late Models. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m. Adult admission is $15 while youngsters 11 and under are admitted FREE. Free parking is available on the speedway grounds.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS

By: Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media
Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer finally had a great Friday evening as a good burst of June weather allowed the promotional team to not look over the shoulder to see if any rain clouds were on the horizon. The Palmer Family hosted a seven division race card at their superb quarter mile speedplant located in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. A nice crowd was on hand to enjoy the evening of speed sponsored by the good folks at D&D NAPA while the Checkered Flag Bonus was sponsored by the Palmer Family.
Richard Smith rocked the house with an outstanding drive to capture his first win of the season in the United Pump and Tank Modified finale and his first win at the speedway since 2011. "The Otisville Outlaw" Corey Cormier captured his first Accord win of the season in a rim-riding effort as he won the Arkel Motors Sportsman main. "The Intimidator" Ray Tarantino made it two wins for the season as he captured the Upstate Auto Pure Stock encounter. "The Highside Hustler" Eric Jennings raced to his fourth win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature. Ryan McCartney was triumphant in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature event to claim his first ever win at the speedway. "The Cold Spring Kid" Jake Mason raced to his fifth consecutive win at Accord in the Want AD Digest Junior Slingshots. The return of the Empire Lightning Sprints proved to be a happy one for Zach Bennett as he winged his way around the speedway to capture the feature event with an exciting performance.
Richard Smith led the first eleven laps of the United Pump And Tank Modified feature before yielding to the high flying Brad Rothaupt on a restart. Rothaupt would lead for three laps before Smith, with a full head of steam, overtook Rothaupt to assume command of the point once again. Rothaupt and Danny Creeden would run second and third for quite a few laps but making his move into the top five was Danny Tyler. The "Showtime Kid" had himself a fast hot rod and slipped past Rothaupt and Creeden to drive into the runner-up slot with five laps to go. Tyler could not muster up a challenge with Smith with time running out and it would be Smith in his Smith Logging and Land Clearing sponsored machine. Tyler was second in a stout run from 11th position. Rothaupt, Creeden and Anthony Perrego would complete the top five. The second five were Brain Krummel, Brian Malcolm, Kyle VanDuser, Chad Loiodice and Ken Ferrier.
The Arkel Motors Sportsman event found Milton Mann jumping out into the lead at the start and he would lead for three laps before giving way to Rafael Carson who would lead from lap four through six. A restart would allow Mann to regain the lead and Mann was steady in trying to keep his Sedita mount ahead of a quick group of competitors headed up by Corey Cormier. Cormier worked the top and the middle of the raceway before pulling alongside of Mann for a few laps with driver seeking the advantage. On lap 15, an inside move from Corey Cormier off of turn two allowed him to burst into the lead. While Mann slid backwards towards the end of the event, the pressure was mounting as Kyle Rohner, who spun on the opening lap, worked his way from the rear of the field to become a player. Rohner moved into second place late in the race but the evening belonged to Cormier as he raced to victory in the 25-lap event. Rohner was second with Matt Shultz, Tony Kowalchuk from 15th position and Cole Hentschel rounding out the top five. The second five found Tyler Johnston, Robbie Knipe, Jim Johnson, Milton Mann and Jamie Yannone following.
Ryan McCartney led the first two laps of the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature attraction but would give way to Anthony Recchio who powered into the lead. McCartney would regain the lead on lap four and just as quickly would have the smooth running Hunter Lapp making his way into the runner-up slot. McCartney and Lapp would wage a dual until the end of the event as McCartney would nearly lose the lead on a couple of occasions but had more than enough foot to keep the car at the number one spot. McCartney would go on to capture his first ever win at the speedway with Lapp in a runner-up role. Kevin Stevens would come on strong for third with Jake Granacker and Vinny Visconti completing the top five. Recchio hustled back through the field to gain sixth place with Tanner Johnson, Jared Miller, Jamie Doolan and Michael Corbin completing the top ten.
John Hechinger led the first three laps of the Upstate Auto Pure Stock event before Ray Tarantino powered by with a run to the top of the speedway. Once in front, Tarantino pretty much held the field at bay as he led the remainder of the laps to claim his second win of the season. Hechinger has been a real surprise in 2017 as he enjoyed another fine run with a runner-up finish. Steve Williams, Emerson Cargain Jr, Travis Brockner (subbing for Bob Sleight), Harry Bachman, Tanner Granacker, James Goetchius and Chris Kanuk completed the field.
Jake Mason added his fifth consecutive win at the speedway in the Want Ad Digest Junior Slingshot finale. He did it in convincing fashion as won by a straightaway over Brock Pinkerous.
Corey Wood would jump into the lead in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint feature and would lead for three laps before yielding to the returning Thomas Radivoy. Radivoy would lead until lap nine when Eric Jennings blasted by with a top to bottom power move to claim the lead. Jennings would lead the remainder of the laps to claim his fourth straight win at the speedway. Jersey star Rich Mellor rebounded from a mid race spin to charge back and finish second. Larry Ricci, Larry McVay, Andrew Davis, Bob Tersillo and Brandon Gates completed the field.
The return of the Empire Lightning Sprints found an energetic group of drivers happy to return to their old stomping grounds. Doug Norrie would lead the first lap of the feature but on lap number two found himself making contact with the inside barrier and suffering front end damage. Clint Roehrs, a former three time champion at Accord, would lead the next lap before yielding to the high flying Zach Bennett. Bennett would quickly carve out a lead but Roehrs would detonate an engine bringing a red flag out to the field. On the restart, it was all Bennett as he winged his way around the speedway from the top shelf. Bennett would get the win and believed to be his first ever win at the speedway. Justin Phillips, Peter Dance, Alex Bell, Lou Torres, Canadian Charles Belanger, Jesse Pruchnick and Alex Adamsky completed the field.
GEMSTONES:
The hotly contested racing action was completed at 11 PM. Kudos to Gary Palmer and crew for whipping the speedway into excellent shape for the evening of racing action.
Heat wins went to Richard Smith, Danny Tyler and Brad Rothaupt in the Modified division while three heats were needed for the Sportsman with wins going to Corey Cormier, Matt Shultz and Brandon McGill. The Rookie Sportsman heats were claimed by Anthony Recchio and Hunter Lapp. Eric Jennings and Thomas Radivoy captured the sprint car heat wins. Jake Mason captured the Slingshot preliminary. Pure Stock heats wins were captured by Bob Sleight and Steve Williams. The Lightning Sprint heats were claimed by Clint Roehrs and Zach Bennett.
New drivers on hand for the evening besides the traveling Lightning Sprint roster included Alyssa Cody in the Modifieds. Shane Henion was a new addition to the Sportsman division. Tanner Granacker returned to action in the Pure Stocks. John Miller made his initial start with the Rookies. New sprinters on hand were Jeremy Quick and Rich Mellor. Mandee Pauch Relations – May 29, 2017 - Peter Britten recorded two top-10 finishes this past weekend at Sharon Speedway and Utica-Rome Speedway.
Britten opened his weekend with a victory in his heat race at Sharon Speedway on Saturday.
“We were charging pretty hard in the heat race,” he said. “It was a pretty close finish at the line. There were some smoother parts to drive through and I used it to my advantage.”
Britten started on the pole for the 25-lap main event.
“The first half of the race me and Rex King Jr. battled it out,” Britten mentioned. “He seemed like he was prepared to run through all the rough stuff down low. I didn’t really want to run down there so I set my car to run around that stuff and run up high.”
Britten felt the highline wasn’t fast enough to get the job done. “I could still go around and be fast but Rex was able to get through the rough stuff without getting screwed up and still run faster laps than me. I didn’t want to beat my car up so I wouldn’t run down there.”
Midway through the race a caution was brought out.
“On the restart I hit a rut the wrong way and just got all messed up,” he said. “It shoved me up the racetrack. I fell back to fifth. I had to claw my way back to third by the end of it.”
Britten is showing strong consistency, closing out his second top-ten finish at Sharon Saturday night.
“You never like to start on the pole and not win but considering the track conditions and everything else we were on pace to be able to win but circumstances weren’t in our favor. It feels good to have a competitive car and package down there.”
Due to Friday night’s race at Albany-Saratoga being canceled, Britten and the No.97 team hit the road for their first visit to Utica-Rome Speedway on Sunday.
Britten started seventh in his heat and finished sixth. “We weren’t set up right,” he said. “I don’t run there very often so it took me a little while to get going.”
Sunday night was a regular point show at Utica-Rome, which put Britten at a disadvantage. Due to the handicapping he had to start at the rear in both the heat race and feature.
Britten was able to advance from his 17th starting position in the feature to a 10th-place finish during his first visit at the track this season.
“We passed a couple of really good cars on the way,” noted Britten. “They weren’t pulling away from me and I was racing with them so I felt like I had a pretty competitive car.”
Britten plans to compete this Friday at Albany-Saratoga Speedway, Saturday at Sharon Speedway and Sunday at Weedsport Speedway for a special Big Block vs. Small Block show.

Mandee Pauch Relations – May 29, 2017 – The HBR team produced two solid top-five finishes Saturday night at the high-banked Fulton Speedway.
The team was set to kickoff their weekend Friday night at Brewerton Speedway but the race was canceled due to rain.
Jimmy Phelps opened up the night with a fifth place finish from his sixth place starting spot.
Phelps fifth place finish in the heat race locked him into the 14th starting position for the main event.
Phelps maneuvered his way through the field and was able to claim the second spot with five laps remaining. “We had a final restart with two laps to go,” Phelps noted. “I think we were good enough to win, we just needed some more laps to get going. I thought we had a really good car.”
For the second week in a row, Phelps capped off his Saturday night in the runner up spot at Fulton.
“It’ll come,” he said. “We just have to break that barrier.”
Teammate Max McLaughlin had a strong heat race. McLaughlin started third and ran off with the heat race victory.
McLaughlin started on the outside of the third row for the main event.
“I dialed the front brake in when I was running the bottom,” McLaughlin said. “When I moved to the top it was too much and my brakes locked up and I jumped the cushion.”
Despite losing a few spots, McLaughlin toughed it out and drove back through to finish in fourth.
Next on tap for the HBR team will be at Brewerton Speedway this Friday night, June 2, Fulton Speedway on Saturday, June 3 and a special show on Sunday, June 4 at Weedsport Speedway for the Big Block vs. Small Block Challenge.

DANNY ERB, RON KLINE AND RYAN HIGGS TAKE HOME CHECKERED FLAGS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY ON K&N PERFORMANCE FILTERS NIGHT SATURDAY
13 DIFFERENT FEATURE WINNERS SO FAR THIS SEASON
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. MAY 28, 2017 – Danny Erb, shut out of the winner’s circle since July, 2015, was close to victory lane on numerous occasions this season only to be plagued by mechanical gremlins, made his own luck on Saturday during K&N Performance Filters Night at Grandview Speedway. He took advantage of an opportunity to put the Terry Fasnacht-owned, Conestoga Valley Custom Kitchens No. 44 in the lead, when leader Mike Kellner got trapped behind two lapped cars racing side-by-side. Erb shot through a hole and into the first spot on the eighth lap of the T.P. Trailers 30-lap NASCAR 358 Modified Feature and went on to score his first win of the season.
In the 25-lap BRC NASCAR Late Model Feature, opening night winner Ron Kline, who has struggled to claim another victory, led from start to finish to finally “get the monkey off his back” and be back in the win circle. He is the first repeat winner in the division.
Sophomore racer Ryan Higgs overpowered one-time NASCAR Sportsman feature winner this season Dylan Swinehart on the eighth lap restart of the 25-lap event and withstood all challenges the rest of the way to capture his first career triumph at the track. The Nazareth, PA. native dedicated the victory to his late uncle John.
All feature winners in the activities sponsored by K&N Performance received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers, product awards from V.P. Fuels providing they ran gas and met all the necessary requirements and the Dan’s Deli ½-way Hoagie certificate.
Modified action saw Kellner charge from third to first at the drop of the green with challenges coming from Erb, Colt Harris, Blaine Bracelin and Ray Swinehart.
Kellner’s sizeable lead was being shortened when he approached lapped cars with runner-up Erb closing in fast waiting for the opportunity to take over the lead.
Despite being shown the move-over flag several times the back of the pack continued racing side-by-side as they were running for positions also. Their actions were the break Erb needed to make something happen. Erb squeezed the Nick Gatto powered mount between Kellner and the others to become the new leader on the eighth circuit.
Within no time Erb outdistanced himself and was now being chased down by Kellner, Harris, Swinehart and Kyle Borror.
Heavy traffic came onto the front runners again by the 19th lap and it was heads up driving.
The only caution of the race was when Blaine Bracelin hit the homestretch wall with heavy impact on the 21st lap. He was uninjured, however, the car sustained considerable damage. Before the restart Swinehart, while running fourth and Brett Gilmore, who earlier was in the thick of the battle, went pit side and were out of contention. The leader continued to be Erb, but Kellner lost momentum and fell back to fifth with Borror, Jeff Strunk, who was charging through the pack from 23rd after finishing second in the consi, and Jared Umbenhauer were second through fifth. Craig Von Dohren joined the front five on the 23rd lap.
In the later stages Erb hopped the cushion off turn four, had it sideways but still managed to stay in first.
Erb finally had a change of luck and pulled into victory lane for his third career win. Unfortunately his car owner Terry Fasnacht was not in attendance to see him park the Touch of Green Landscaping special in victory lane since he was feeling under the weather. This is the second win he missed. Turning in his best performance since the opener for a well-deserved second was Strunk followed by Borror, Von Dohren and Umbenhauer.
Kellner, Ron Seltmann Jr., Harris and Erb were the heat winners. Consies went to Doug Manmiller and John Willman.
Kline wasted no time putting the Jr. Grebe owned No. 3 into first at the start of the Late Model feature followed by Steve Todorow, Brian Shuey, Bryon Sipe and Chuck Schutz.
Shuey overtook second on the fourth lap to take chase after Kline, who had a hefty lead built up.
The field closed in on Kline several times during the numerous cautions, but on the 13th lap yellow when Jordan Knepp and Dirk Rimrott tangled on the backstretch, Shuey made a huge run to try and get underneath him, but to no avail and Kline was off and running.
Shuey’s solid run ended with five laps to go when he stopped in turn four with a flat left rear tire for the final caution. The lead never changed as Kline was still first.
No one was able to stop Kline from claiming his 38th career win. Finishing second was Todorow trailed by Sipe, Schutz and Steve Wilson.
Andrew Kreis set the pace for one lap in the Sportsman feature before Jeromy Guistwite took over the reins. That lead was short-lived since on the second lap caution needed when Mike Mammana and Jim Housworth tangled between turns three and four Swinehart motored into the top spot.
Behind Swinehart jockeying for positions were Guistwite, Dean Bachman, Higgs and Kreis.
Higgs advanced to second on the seventh lap to put his bids in for the lead.
Kurt Bettler brought out the final caution when he stopped in turn four on lap seven. On this restart Higgs outgunned Swinehart to become the new pacesetter in the outside groove, but Swinehart hung in there down low never giving up as he was all over his back bumper.
With five laps to go Higgs and Swinehart approached lapped traffic and fast approaching to make it a three-way battle was last week’s feature winner Ryan Lilick.
Higgs never surrendered the lead and went on to chalk up a hard-fought win chased across the line by Swinehart, R. Lilick, Bachman and Lisowski.
Heats were won by Guistwite, Swinehart and Bachman. Housworth won the consi.
The Sportsman stocks will be featured on Saturday, June 3 with a $1,500 to win 40-lap main event. Also in action will be the TP Trailers 358 Modifieds and BRC Late Models. Adult admission is $20 for this special event while youngsters 6 through 11 pay just $5 while kids under 6 are admitted free.
And on Sunday, June 4, 1 p.m. action will include Big Car Enduros (twin 60s), Small Car Enduros (twin 60s), Junkyard Car Enduro (50-laps), Ladies Race plus Blast from the Past Vintage Cars (two classes- two features)
