Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer once again rolled the dice and came up the big winners on Friday evening as they ushered in the Memorial Day weekend at their superb quarter mile speedplant located in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. With a less than admirable weather forecast for the evening, the Palmer Family had a great field of racers prepared to go racing and an enthusiastic crowd of loyal fans on hand for the event. WRWD Radio 107.3 FM was the headline sponsor for the evening and presented a show with live music from country music hopeful Bill Manis, along with the VFW Color Guard and the host of the show, radio personality Uncle Mike Hansen from WRWD Radio. The Checkered Flag bonus was sponsored by Insinger Fuels.
Not one of the fans left the house disappointed as defending 2016 Sportsman champion Jimmy Wells took advantage of a front row starting spot and wired the field to score his first ever Modified victory at the speedway in the United Pump & Tank Modifieds. Nick Johnson laid claim to his first win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman finale with a stellar run to the checkered flag. Eric Jennings made it three wins in a row in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Cars. Steve Williams put together a masterful run to triumph in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature. "The Cold Spring Kid" Jake Mason made it four wins in a row in the Want Ad Digest Junior Slingshots. Kevin Stevens captured the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman event to close down the curtain on an excellent night of racing.
Jimmy Wells and Joe Judge brought the United Pump and Tank Modified division starting field to the line for the start of the 30-lap headliner for the Modified division. Quick starting Wells would jump into the lead with fourth starting Ken Ferrier rocking the top of the raceway to move into the runner-up slot by lap four. Wells had a big lead early on that Ferrier would begin to nip away at and by lap twenty had closed in on Wells as they entered slower traffic. Wells was a bit quicker in slipping past traffic and Ferrier bobbled with five laps to go when he jumped the cushion and had to correct the racer. Wells would go on to capture the win with Ken Ferrier in for second place money. Danny Creeden ran a steady race to finish third with Joe Judge and Brian Krummel completing the top five. Krummel began the event in 11th position. Scott Ferrier headed up the second followed by Ed Dachenhausen, Richard Smith, Jesse Marks and Anthony Perrego.
Ryan McCartney was fast out of the blocks to kick-off the WRWD Radio Rookie sportsman event. A few jingles early on slowed the pace but on each restart McCartney proved to have the hot hand as he continued to set the pace. Vinny Visconti, Jake Granacker and Kevin Stevens provided strong opposition during the event. On lap twelve things unraveled quickly for McCartney as Brandon Daley got out of shape on the backstretch and fought the car into the turn with McCartney coming on the scene with the cars making contact and McCartney spinning towards the inside track barrier. The turn of events would put McCartney out of contention and place Kevin Stevens in the lead. Stevens would lead the final three laps to claim his first ever victory at Accord. Granacker raced to runner-up honors with Hunter Lapp, Vinny Visconti and Jimmy Devitt completing the top five. Newcomer Jeff Higham headed up the second five with the returning Tanner Johnson, Ryan McCartney and newcomers Michael Bull and Jared Miller completing the top ten.
The WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car finale found Corey Wood leading the first three laps of the event before yielding to the high flying Eric Jennings. Jennings would build from there as he built up a lead that would soon find Larry McVay pecking away at Jennings advantage. Jennings was able to keep McVay at bay and would go on to capture his third win of the season at Accord. McVay was strong in second place with the returning Larry Ricci third, Andrew Davis fourth and newcomer Brandon Gates completing the top five.
Jake Mason continued his winning ways by capturing his fourth win in succession at the speedway. Newcomer Brock Pinkerous was the runner-up with Ashton DeWitt third. Mason added to his winning total with a $100.00 bonus thrown in from Corey Cormier Racing for the winner of the Slingshot event.
The Arkel Motors Sportsman event was a barn-burner and head-turner from the drop of the green flag as Rafael Carson would lead the first two laps before losing the handle on his Pine Cone Resort sponsored hot rod. On the restart, Nick Johnson displayed a big right foot and took command of the event. Corey Cormier hustled his way from eighth spot to become a player and just as quickly Kyle Rohner raced from 12th spot to also challenge for the lead. As the laps clicked off, it became a four car race as Johnson, Cormier, Rohner and an emerging Tony Kowalchuk were duking it out. A jingle on lap-17 found a many car pile-up that took out Rohner, Ralph Ronk and Milton Mann. When the event went green, Johnson survived the strong challenge from Kowalchuk to score his first victory of the season with Kowalchuk second. Corey Cormier, Robbie Knipe and Cole Hentschel completed the top five. The second five was headed up by Tyler Johnston with Jimmy Johnson, Brad Horton, Matt Shultz and Mike Senecal following.
Steve Williams led wire to wire in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock finale to capture his first win of the 2017 racing season. The win didn't come easy as Emerson Cargain and Travis Brockner applied plenty of pressure on him as they would finish second and third respectively. John Hechinger and Austin Smith completed the top five.
GEMSTONES:
The hotly contested racing action was completed at 11:15 PM. Promoter Gary Palmer and crew worked overtime to bring the track to racing standards after the abundance of rain that fell on the speedway on Thursday.
Heat wins went to Jimmy Wells, Ken Ferrier and Scott Ferrier in the Modified division while Phil Goetchius, Corey Cormier and Nick Johnson captured the Sportsman heats. Rookie heats were claimed by Jake Granacker and Ryan McCartney. The Pure Stock heat was claimed by Steve Williams. Jake Mason captured the Slingshot heat. Sprint heat wins went to Larry Ricci and Eric Jennings. .
New drivers on hand for the evening included Terry Arnold, Jamie Yannone, Mike Senecal and Tanner Johnson in the Sportsman division. Patrick Murphy and Kevin Ward made their first appearances of the season in the Modifieds. New Rookie Sportsman drivers included George Begg, Alex Van Pelt, Mike Bull, Jeff Higham, John DeWitt and Jared Miller. Larry Ricci, former Quad champion Brandon Gates, and Geoff Quackenbush were new drivers on hand for the Sprint Cars. Austin Smith was a newcomer for the Pure Stock division.
Many thanks to Corey Cormier and Team for the generous addition to the Junior Slingshot purse. Corey enjoyed a fine win last Sunday at another speedway.
Thanks again to Uncle Mike Hansen and WRWD Radio for a wonderful night at the speedway. The presentation went well and plans are already underway to make next year's event even bigger and better. Uncle Mike and Announcer Steve Pados talked about the many activities WRWD Radio is involved with and of the great tie in with the Accord Speedway.
The Empire Lightning Sprints return to the speedway next week for their first appearance of the season and hope many of the stars of the series will be part of the action.

THUNDER SERIES OPENS SUNDAY, MAY 28 WITH $5,000-TO-WIN PIONEER POLE BUILDINGS MODIFIED BIG ONE
BECHTELSVILLE, PA (May 26, 2017) – Dirt track racing is Americana. Nothing speaks more to that statement than a Memorial Day holiday weekend and two nights of racing at Grandview Speedway.
The 1/3-mile dirt track in Bechtelsville, PA prepares for a double-header with their NASCAR racing program on Saturday, May 27, followed by the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill special event series kick-off on Sunday, May 28.
On Sunday, NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series presents the Triple Thunder Thriller presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings. The main event features the over 800 horsepower ground-shaking Big-Block Modifieds challenging the ultra-quick Small-Block Modifieds in a 40 lap duel to the finish, where a $5,000 jackpot waits in victory lane. The lucrative Modified kick-off event includes a $1,000 tenth place prize and $500 payday to start the feature.
With a special rules package, the region’s top Modified racers are expected to be in attendance. Hometown heroes like Craig Von Dohren, Jeff Strunk, Duane Howard and Doug Manmiller defend the Berks County oval against New Jersey invaders Billy Pauch Jr. and Ryan Godown. Young and hungry drivers like Danny Bouc, Jared Umbenhauer, and Ryan Krachun search for their first Thunder on the Hill Victory.
The rules package allows for competition from Big-Block and Spec 358 engines and both American Racer and Hoosier tires. No open small block motors are permitted. For further rule information visit www.thunderonthehillracingseries.com
Along with an exciting Modified main event, the Sportsman will compete in a $1,300-to-win, 25-lap feature event; and the MASS Sprint Car Series debuts.
Helping to celebrate the Memorial Day Weekend will be a stunning firework display prior to the start of the main event.
The Pioneer Pole Buildings Mobile Sales Unit will be on display in the mid-way along with all of the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series mainstay promotions including the Low Down & Dirty Radio Show pre-race Meet and Greet, pit area tours, the Inside/Out Experience – where fans can watch hot laps from the infield, Joe ‘The Pizza Dude’ offering up free pizzas to the rowdiest fans, give-a-ways, and appearances by Miss Thunder on the Hill, Lauren Fischer.
Spectator gates will open at 5 PM, with racing action set for 7:30 PM. Adult General Admission is $25, Children 6-11 are $10, and Children 5 and Under are Free of Charge. Pit Area pricing is $35 and a license is not required.
Saturday’s program includes the TP Trailer NASCAR 358 Modifieds, BRC Late Models, Sportsman and Blast form the Past vintage racers. Craig VonDohren leads the weekly championship standings heading into Saturday night action.
Adult admission for Saturday night racing is $15 while youngsters 11 and under being admitted free. Military personnel with proper ID are admitted FREE. Pit admission is $30 with a NASCAR license. Free parking is available on the speedway grounds.
Fans have the ability to camp out at the Speedway for the ultimate weekend experience. Campers are asked to park in the turn 4 parking area, there are no hook-ups available, and no box camping allowed. Track officials ask that all fires be contained. There is no fee for camping.
NAPA Auto Parts continues their long run with the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series as the title sponsor joined by Pioneer Pole Buildings, Quaker Steak & Lube, and GALCO Business Communications.

PAUCH, JR. POWERS TO HIS THIRD WIN OF THE YEAR AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY
New Egypt, NJ (May 21, 2017) – For the third time this year, Billy Pauch, Jr. won the 358 Modified feature at New Egypt Speedway. Connor King topped the field in the Crate Modified main event. Bill Liedtka was the victor in the Street Stock contest. The Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman features were taken by Joseph Brown and David Burns.
As the 30-lap May Modified Madness Round of 24 feature got underway for the 358 Modifieds, Steve Davis grabbed the point with Lou Cicconi in his tracks. PJ Oliver motored into third on the second tour and began to pursue Cicconi for second. As the battle for the runner-up spot was developing, the yellow flag waved on the fourth tour for a slowing Ryan Godown. When action resumed, Cicconi blasted by Davis for the lead. By the tenth tour after some great racing action and a few additional caution periods, Cicconi and Davis remained in the top two spots with Billy Pauch, Jr., Oliver and Danny Bouc next in line. Davis and Pauch, Jr. were in a spirited duel for second when Davis was forced to retire on the twelfth revolution with a mechanical failure. At the halfway point, Cicconi and Pauch, Jr. began a multi-lap side by side clash for the lead with Oliver in striking distance. With Cicconi in the high groove, Pauch, Jr. used an inside move and slid into the front running position with ten laps remaining. With Pauch, Jr. extending his advantage, Bouc rode into third on the twenty third lap and passed Cicconi for second one tour later. With five laps remaining and Pauch, Jr. nearly a straightaway ahead of the pack, the yellow lights illuminated one last time for Doug Ostwald. On the single file restart, Pauch, Jr. held off Bouc and paced the field for the final laps to capture his third win of the year. With the victory, Pauch, Jr. has qualified for the May Modified Madness Finale. Bouc completed the race in second. Oliver rushed past Cicconi on the twenty-ninth lap to finish in third. With Cicconi coming home in fourth, David Van Horn wound up in fifth. The 358 Modified heat winners were Steve Davis, PJ Oliver, and Danny Bouc.
After taking the lead from the early pacesetter Ryan Simmons, ninth place starting Connor King went unchallenged to win the 20-lap Crate Modified main event. The victory was the second of King’s career. Jeremy Martino drove by Simmons in the latter stages of the affair to finish in second place. Simmons, who led the opening eleven laps, finished in third. Tom Tanner and Steve Hicks completed the top five. Connor King, Steve Hicks, and Ryan Simmons won the Crate Modified qualifying races. The consolation contest was taken by Steve Kemery.
Bill Liedtka withstood a final tour surge from John Meyer to capture the victory in the 15-lap Street Stock feature. With Meyer taking second, Darren Cox finished third. A late race charge earned Mick Search fourth place. Joe Reid completed the contest in fifth. In addition to his win in the main event, Liedtka was victorious in the Street Stock heat race.
In the first 8-lap feature for the Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman, Joseph Brown was awarded the win after disqualifications of the top two finishers, Rick Wegner Sr. and David Burns. Completing the top three were Walt McIntyre and Rob Mancini.
In the second 8-lap feature for the Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Sportsman, David Burns took the lead at the halfway point from Rob Mancini and led the field for the remaining distance to take his third checkered flag of the year. Walt McIntyre was second. Joseph Brown crossed the finish line in third and Mancini came home in fourth.
The ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’, the World of Outlaw Craftsman Sprint Car Series, is set to invade New Egypt Speedway on Tuesday, May 23 for the 5th Annual Jersey Outlaw Classic. A star studded lineup of Daryn Pittman, Donny Schatz, David Gravel, Brad Sweet, Jason Johnson, Shane Stewart, Joey Saldana, Sheldon Haudenschild, Paul McMahan and more will be in action. Tickets are available now by visiting www.worldofoutlaws.com/tickets. Pit Gates unlock at 2:00 p.m. The ticket and will call windows will open at 3:30 p.m. Spectator gates open at 4:00 p.m. Hot Laps get underway at 6:30 p.m. with racing beginning at 7:30 p.m. A rain date of Wednesday, May 24 has been added in case there is inclement weather. General Admission tickets are $30, reserved tickets are $35, Teens 12-15 are $15, and Children 11 and under are free. Pit admission is $40.
Racing continues on Saturday, May 27 with the 358 Modifieds competing in the Remember Our Veterans 40. This extra distance event will also serve as the Round of 12 in the May Modified Madness Series. The Hammer Sportsman, Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars and Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman will be in action as well. The pits open at 3:00 p.m. with the spectator gates unlocking at 4:00 p.m. Hot laps crank up at 5:00 p.m. and the first green flag flies at 6:00 p.m. On this special night, military personnel will be admitted at no charge with proper identification. Adult admission is $22, Seniors 65 & up are $20, Teens 12-15 are $12 and Children 11 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $30 with a New Egypt Speedway license and $40 with no license.

KRUMMEL, PFEIL, LILICK, MYERS AND CASSEL SCORE FEATURE WINS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
Eleven different feature winners in NASCAR events so far this season
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. May 21, 2017 – Saturday night racing action finally returned to Grandview Speedway after two weeks off courtesy of Mother Nature with four different winners and one repeat winner in the respective classes in the T.P. Trailer and Truck Equipment sponsored night.
The T.P. Trailers 30-lap NASCAR 358 Modified Feature saw New York native Brian Krummel, who left his hometown track of Middletown, N.Y., mid-season last year to pilot the David Zubikowski Racing No. 17Z, finally had his dream come true when he captured his first career win at the track. An emotional victor, with tears in his eyes, thanked Zubi and the entire crew for giving him a wicked fast car. Being somewhat “gun shy” to go on the outside after what he encountered in the opener, Krummel was able to run the high line and felt at ease. An impressive field of 38 Modifieds were on hand can cut to 28 feature starters by four qualifying heat races.
Wayne Pfeil sporting a huge No. 7, dedicated to his father Wayne who passed away last year, with a smaller No. 72 in the middle; led the 25-lap BRC NASCAR Late Model feature from start to finish for his season first victory.
The NASCAR Sportsman division had their first repeat winner of the year when Ryan Lilick stood in the winner’s circle once again at the drop of the checkered in the 25-lap event.
All feature winners receive monetary awards from T.P. Trailers along with VP. Fuel merchandise awards providing they meet the necessary requirements.
The Blast >From The Past Vintage racers ran the Modified and Vintage Cars in a combined 15-lap feature event. Ron Myers won the Modified portion while Andy Cassel, who finished fifth, was declared the winner in the Vintage Car ranks with the highest finish.
Mike Kellner, appeared to be finally having a change of luck when he took the early lead at the onset of the Modified feature and wasted no time building up a healthy lead being chased down by Steve Swinehart, Danny Erb, Chris Esposito and Brett Kressley.
Kellner and the other front runners encountered heavy lap traffic with 11 laps in the books and had to use heads up tactics.
Kressley brought out the yellow on lap 13 when he stopped on the backstretch while running fifth. Kellner kept the momentum going for first with Swinehart, Esposito, Erb and now Krummel completing the top five.
Two laps later the yellow waved for a slow moving Blaine Bracelin in the second turn. Before action went green again Swinehart, running a solid second, went pit side out of contention turning the spot over to Esposito. Krummel advanced to second on the 17th lap to pressure Kellner.
Lady Luck wasn’t with Kellner as he came to a stop in the first turn for the 18th lap caution ending his solid run and surrendering the lead to Krummel.
The restart was void as Erb got somewhat out of shape going into turn one. Cars scrambled to avoid contact, however, he still was hit and spun putting a damper on his night, for the final caution. The front five were now comprised of Krummel, Jared Umbenhauer, Craig Von Dohren, Esposito and Jeff Strunk. Making bids for a top five spot was Kyle Borror and he made is stick on the 23rd lap when he got past Esposito.
In the final stages the first three were bumper-to-bumper, but in the end Krummel was the big winner for a hard-fought well-deserved win. Von Dohren narrowly edged out Umbenhauer at the line trailed by Strunk and Borror.
Bracelin, Krummel, Erb and Esposito scored the heat wins. The consies were won by Duane Howard and Doug Manmiller.
In Late Model action Pfeil charged past Kyle Merkel and into the lead at the drop of the green followed by Steve Todorow, Chuck Schutz and Bryon Sipe.
At the conclusion of nine laps Pfeil built up a comfortable margin over the rest of the pack and he had to bid his time with the lap cars.
The pack regrouped when Shawn Horning slowed in the second turn on the 14th lap for the caution. Pfeil wasted no time staying ahead while Merkel, Todorow, Schutz and Ron Kline waited for a miscue.
No one was able to overtake Pfeil as he went on to score his tenth career victory at the track chased across the line by Merkel, Todorow, Schutz and Sipe.
Schutz was the fastest in the timed hot laps, something new they are trying for the late models.
Sportsman feature action saw rookie racer Jeromy Guistwite grab the early lead at the drop of the green and set the pace for four laps before he almost spun. Nathan Mohr took advantage of the situation to pass Guistwite for the lead.
While Mohr, who was back in action after a horrendous homestretch flip April 29 showed the way, Guistwite, Ryan Shupp, Dean Bachman and Ryan Lilick diced for positions with it constantly changing.
Mohr’s sizeable lead was erased on the 17th lap after Joe Funk III rode the backstretch wall and came to a stop with a right front flat tire. On the restart Guistwite, Lilick and Craig Whitmoyer all charged past Mohr.
The lead changed for the fourth time on the 21st lap when Lilick got underneath Guistwite to take over the top spot.
Dylan Swinehart and Mark Kemmerer tangled along the homestretch for the 21st lap caution. On the restart Whitmoyer’s engine expired with a huge puff of smoke. Everyone was jammed up behind him and as a result Mike Lisowski flipped onto the inside homestretch wall with Guistwite also involved. Everyone was uninjured, but their cars were badly damaged. Lilick held on to first on the restart with pressure from Mohr, Brian Hirthler, Ryan Beltz and Shupp.
At the wave of the checkered Lilick won his seventh career feature followed by Mohr, Hirthler, Beltz and Shupp.
The heats were won by Guistwite, Jack Butler and Mohr. Kyle Lilick won the consi.
Ron Myers led the entire Blast From The Past feature. Finishing second was Ronnie Peck followed by Brett Peters, Todd Lapp and Andy Cassel.
Coming up on Saturday, May 27th is K&N Performance Filters Night featuring TP Trailers 358 Modifieds, BRC Late Models and Sportsman stock cars. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m.
The Sportsman stocks will be featured on Saturday, June 3 with a $1,500 to win 40-lap main event. Also in action will be the TP Trailers 358 Modifieds and BRC Late Models. Adult admission is $20 for this special event while youngsters 6 through 11 pay just $5 while kids under 6 are admitted free.
Grandview Speedway continues to be one of the most successful NASCAR short track operations in the nation having been presenting stock car racing events under the Rogers family promotion for the past 55 years. The season at Grandview continues from late March to November. The one-third-mile, banked clay track is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. A full line of concession and novelty items is offered. TRACK CHAMP ANTHONY PERREGO SCORES FIRST WIN IN ACCORD SPEEDWAY MODIFIED ACTION

The Catskill Mountain area of New York offers many spectacular views and exciting things to do for vacationers. However, Fridays are reserved for the exciting action only exciting high level short track racing can provide. The Accord Speedway has been doing just that, giving the loyal racing fans some great racing action when Mother Nature does not rain on their parade. The first really good weather Friday evening brought in another great roster of driving talent and the fans went away satisified they had witnessed another great night of dirt track racing. The evening of speed was sponsored by Powder Tech Powdercoating from Duanesburg, New York. Their website is: www.powdertechinc.com. The checkered flag bonus was sponsored by Behrents Speed Center.
When all was said and done, The "Montgomery Missile" Anthony Perrego clicked for his first win of the season in the United Pump & Tank Modifieds. Tony Kowalchuk led only the last lap in scoring his first win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman. Travis Brockner had the hot hand as he captured his first win in the Upstate Auto Pure Stocks. Eric Jennings made it two in a row in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Cars. "The Cold Spring Kid" Jake Mason made it three in a row as he once again dominated the action in the Want Ad Digest Junior Slingshots. "The Jersey Force" Anthony Recchio scored his second win of the season in claiming the win in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman. Dave Donovan captured another win in the Emmanuel's Marketplace 4-Cylinder Enduro finale at the speedway even though he was not the first one across the finish line.
Jimmy Wells and Tommy Johnson brought the United Pump & Tank Modified field down for the start of the 30-lap main event. At the drop of the green it was Well getting the jump on the field and grabbed the lead coming out of turn two on the initial lap. Wells would lead the event through lap ten when he was out-powered by the strong running Perrego. The action was hot and heavy as many drivers tried to punch their ticket to the number one spot. Perrego held off comers but as the race hit the latter stages, Brad Rothaupt was pesky and fast as he tried to wrestle way the top spot. Rothaupt would pull just about even at times but Perrego would prevail and in doing so, captured his first win of the season at Accord. Rothaupt did an excellent job and finished in the runner-up role. Danny Tyler hustled to a third place finish. Brian Krummel was fourth and Mike Ricci finished fifth. Jesse Marks headed up the second five with Danny Creeden, Richard Smith, Richie Eurich and Eddie Burgess rounding out the top ten.
In the Arkel Motors Sportsman action, "The Little Rock" Matt Shultz hustled into the lead at the drop of the green flag. Shultz would race to daylight ahead of the field and built up a huge lead. Things would change quickly on lap ten as two-time winner Kyle Rohner raced through the pack and became a contender until turned around by Phil Goetchius. The big lead evaporated for Shultz but as the green flag was displayed he once again ran to daylight but moving into second place with a good car under him was Tony Kowalchuk. The race slowed down with a few cautions but Shultz was steady and holding off the baseline advances of Kowalchuk. Shultz still held the lead on the white flag lap but bobbled a bit between turns one and two and Kowalchuk seized the opportunity to blast by and lead the final lap to score his first Accord win in quite some time. Shultz, although disappointed, was a strong runner-up with the returning Chris Stevens racing to third place, Tyler Johnston fourth and Cole Hentschel completing the top five. Rohner recovered from his early misfortune and raced back to sixth whil Jim Johnson, Winter Mead, BRandon McGill and Ralph Ronk completed the top ten.
Anthony Recchio put on a great show as he led all of the way in scoring his second win of the season in the WRWD Rookie Sportsman main event. "The Hurricane" Hunter Lapp was solid with a strong runner-up finish. Kenny Ryder was third with Kevin Stevens fourth and Bobby Flood fifth after running with the leaders, spinning and then making a solid comeback.
Jake Granacker headed up the second five with RJ Daley, Mike Corbin, Brandon Daley and newcomer Chet Doolan following.
Emerson Cargain led the first lap of the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature before yielding to a hot running Travis Brockner. Once in front, Brockner built up a healthy lead with Ray Tarantino giving chase late in the event. Brockner scored his first win of the season with Tarantino second, Emerson Cargain third, John Hechinger fourth and Steve Williams rounding out the top five.
The WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Cars found Eric Jennings starting up front and that was all he needed to score his second consecutive win at the speedway by leading all laps on his way to victory. Larry McVay was the runner-up for the second week in a row and Heidi Hedin scored her second straight third place finish. Andrew Davis was fourth.
Jake Mason was victorious in the Want Ad Digest Junior Slingshot event and he did it by leading all laps on his way to victory and score his third win in succession. Ashton DeWitt made his first appearance a good one as he finished second with Jaden Sleight third, Wyatt Hager fourth, newcomer RJ Sherman fifth and Brock Pinkerous sixth.
Jeff DeGroat crossed the finish line first but over aggression on the part of a few drivers resulted in some penalties that altered the outcome of the event. Dave Donovan was declared the winner of the event. Jerry Kinteger was second with Paul Harding, Gene Helms and Cody DeMarmels completing the top five.
Gemstones:
Modified heats were captured by Jimmy Wells, Mike Ricci and Danny Creeden. Sportsman heat wins were claimed by Tyler Johnston, Ralph Ronk and Matt Shultz. Eric Jennings claimed the NEWS Sprint heat win. Rookie Sportsman heats went to Jimmy Devitt and Ryan McCartney. Pure Stock heats were captured by Steve Williams and Emerson Cargain. Jake Mason was victorious in the preliminary for the Junior Slingshots.
New cars and drivers galore were on hand for the evening and included John Woinoski in the Pure Stocks, Bob Tersillo returned to the seat of the Porco Energy sprinter in the NEWS Sprints. Ashton DeWitt, Wyatt Hager and RJ Sherman were new in the Junior Slingshots. Sherman is related to noted retired Modified campaigner Stan Sherman, who competed at OCFS, Accord and Nazareth back in the day. Rookie Sportsman were Chet and Jamie Doolan. Chris Stevens, Austin Smith and Chris Van Duser made their first starts of the season in the Sportsman division.
Defending Pure Stock track champion Bob Sleight was driving the Kanuk Motorsports entry. "Flyin" Brian Malcolm returned to the speedway and had a great run going until a late caution put him to the rear. A few drivers were missing on Friday and hopefully will have their problems sorted out for next Friday's "Salute to the Veterans" event.
Promoter Gary Palmer had the track and the grounds in their usual pristine condition.
As intermission got underway, Announcer Steve Pados brought the Junior Slingshot winner Jake Mason into the tower for an impromptu interview session and the budding driving star handled the questions with ease.

The always unpredictable weather pattern in the Northeast had rain scheduled in the forecast at some point on Friday, but Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer threw caution to the wind and put on a great show last night at the speedway. A good sized racing crowd came out to witness the spirited action and rain did begin to fall as this writer headed home.
Hard working Accord promoter Gary Palmer continues to work overtime to give his driving roster the best possible racing facility he can and the race to the walls speed channels were a true testament to his dedication to his craft as the speedway offered many racing seams for the drivers to display their speed and guile. The evening was sponsored by HO Penn Machinery and Arkel Motors. The Checkered Flag Bonus was sponsored by Dreaming of the Mouse Travel.
The solid six feature race card found "The Statesman" Jerry Higbie returning to the WRWD Radio Victory Lane for the first time in many seasons after a torrid battle with early leader Ken Ferrier in the United Pump and Tank Modified division. "The Bushkill Bullet" Kyle Rohner made it two in a row after heat problems forced him to qualify through the consolation event and he came through the pack from 18th starting position to claim the win in the Arkel Motors Sportsman division finale. "The Intimidator" Ray Tarantino was fast and then some as he top-sided his way to victory in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock Division feature event. Eric Jennings was lightning fast as he grabbed up his win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Cars. "The Cold Spring Kid" Jake Mason made it two in a row as claimed the win in the Want AD Digest Junior Slingshots. Stan Vishinski IV captured the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature event in an event that changed leaders a few times before Vishinski took over the lead for good just before the midway point.
Ken Ferrier and Eddie Burgess brought the United Pump & Tank Modified starting field to the line for the start of the 30-lap main grind. Jimmy Wells shot between the two out of turn two to lead the first laps of the event. A restart brought the field together and Ken Ferrier assumed command of the event. Restarts would bring the field back together with Ferrier now holding on to the slimmest margin of the lead with Jerry Higbie making his presence known to all and pressuring Ferrier at every corner. On lap-26, Higbie found the sweet spot he needed to slip under Ferrier and take command of the event and go on for the win. Ken Ferrier was second in a great run with Jesse Marks finishing third after starting eighth. Scott Ferrier was fourth and Danny Tyler hustled from a 19th place start to claim fifth. Opening night winner Brian Krummel was sixth with Mike Ricci (20th), Ed Dachenhausen, Danny Creeden and Richie Eurich completing the top ten.
The Arkel Motors Sportsman event was a true to life barnburner as a fast field of race cars highlighted another great event. An eight car skirmish at the start would eliminate some cars but when the racing got rolling it was all-go on the speedway. Nick Plumstead would lead the event through the first ten laps until Phil Goetchius and he got together sending both to the rear. Kyle Rohner inherited the lead and would work his own brand of magic through slower traffic towards the end of the event to claim his second win in a row at Accord in 2017. Jimmy Johnson was the runner-up with Jared LaBagh, Tyler Johnston and Winter Mead completing the top five. Heading up the second five were the returning Daniel Morgiewicz, Greg McCloskey, Brandon McGill, Robbie Knipe and Tony Kowalchuk.
Eric Jennings led all fifteen laps of the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car division to claim his first Accord Speedway win of the season. Newcomer Larry McVay was second with Heidi Hedin third, Corey Wood fourth, Don Smith Jr fifth.
Jake Mason made it two in a row in the Want AD Digest Junior Slingshot event with a solid run over Tyler Banks. Jaden Sleight was third and newcomer Brock Pinkerous was fourth.
The Upstate Auto Pure Stock main event began with Ray Tarantino seizing command of the event on the first lap and driving to an easy win in the 15-lap feature. Emerson Cargain Jr was the runner-up with Travis Brockner third, John Hechinger fourth and Steve Williams completing the top five. Livy Johnson, Harry Bachman, Jimmy Sykes and Steve Kanuk followed.
The WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature found Ryan McCartney leading the way for the first five laps. He gave way to Jimmy Devitt who would lead the next two circuits. Stan Vishinski took over the lead on lap eight and would go to victory despite many challenges coming from Kenny Ryder. Ryder wound up second with McCartney third, Chris VanDuser fourth and Tighe Sherlock completing the top five. Hunter Lapp, newcomer Fred Smith, RJ Daley, Chad Jashembowski and Anthony Recchio completed the top ten.
Gemstones:
Heat winners for the evening included Jake Mason in the Junior Slingshots. Heidi Hedin captured the Sprint heat. Emerson Cargain and Ray Tarantino scored wins in the Pure Stock division. The Sportsman ranks found Phil Goetchius, Nick Plumstead and Rich Ricci III scoring victories. Enjoying wins in the Modified heats were Jimmy Wells, Jerry Higbie and Jesse Marks. Rookie heats went to Anthony Recchio and Tighe Sherlock. Two B-Mains were run with Danny Tyler winning the Modified and Robbie Knipe claiming the Sportsman.
New cars on hand included Jerry Higbie, Mark Pullen, Don Smith III and Robbie Rowe in the Modifieds. Daniel Morgiewicz, Mike Senecal, Dave Demorest, Jared LaBagh, Lem Atkins, Greg McCloskey, Brad Horton and Robbie Knipe made their first starts of the season in the Sportsman ranks. Tyler Banks, who has been running well at Hamlin and Brock Pinkerous made their first starts in the Junior Slingshots. Chad Jashembowski, Vinny Visconti, RJ Daley, Fred Smith, Jake Granaker, Brandon Daley, Chris VanDuser and Stan Vishinski made their first rookie starts. James Maroney, Don Smith and Larry McVay were new additions to the Sprint division.
A tip of the fedora to Promoter Gary Palmer for having the speedway groomed to perfection for the evening of speed. The track was racy from top to bottom and three and four wide racing were commonplace throughout the night.
HO Penn Machinery brought out a couple of pieces of equipment so the fans could see what they are all about. They also raffled off a garage stool and had giveaway items for the fans.

Friends of Mike Finale Coming Up At Bridgeport
The twelve year run of the Friends of Mike (FoM) event will come to a close on Tuesday, May 16 at the Bridgeport Speedway when it is run in conjunction with the Super DIRTcar Series event.
Friends of Mike all started back in 2006 when Danny Serrano, a racing fan, and several of his friends, set out to support Mike Rogie, an avid racing fan who was battling cancer. They came up with this event to give back to the drivers who put on the show for their enjoyment, week after week, and at the same time, honor their friend Mike. Serrano had not yet made the move into track management when he began this venture. “So many people wanted to be a part of it,” Serrano stated. “It was like a whirlwind.” No one would know then that this event would become a tradition that would extend through twelve racing seasons.
Sadly, Mike Rogie was never able to attend, his untimely passing came on the day of the inaugural FoM event. Brian Godown picked up the win in the first ever Friends of Mike.
Keith Hoffman put Pat Michael’s No. 51M into Victory Lane in the second FoM race a year later. “That race really turned our season around,” Hoffman offered. “We switched cars for that race and won.” Hoffman would be the first driver to repeat in FoM history when he won one of the four twenty lap events in 2008. Rick Laubach, Tim Tanner and Tad Cox were also twenty lap winners that year.
Billy Pauch picked up the win in 2009 and then Willie Osmun a year later. Another format change and it was Tim McCreadie who made a rare appearance for the win in 2011. McCreadie headed to a Late Model race the next day but not before collecting the checkered in the FoM event.
Danny Johnson was the 2012 race winner in the last event to be held at the New Egypt Speedway.
In 2013, Jimmy Blewett made history as the winner of the first FoM event at the Bridgeport Speedway as he earned his first ever Big Block Modified victory as he raced Billy Pauch for the win. In 2014, Stewart Friesen picked up his first FoM win which he promptly backed up with a second win the next year. In 2015, Serrano honored Sam Martz who was the only driver to compete in all ten FoM races. One year later, it was Martz who collected the victory as he raced to the win over Laubach, Dominick Buffalino and Ryan Watt.
Over the years, the format has changed as has the location, but the driver and fan support has never wavered. One year, Serrano engineered a horseshoe tournament among the drivers before the race. The fans and the drivers loved it! And every year, this race in run in conjunction with a huge Chinese Auction and this year is no exception! Tina Potts has been working hard with Serrano to make this year’s event the biggest one yet! Race car doors and roofs, driver t-shirts and all sorts of racing memorabilia have been collected and will be won by a lucky race fan on race night. Contributions for the Chinese Auction can be made by notifying Tina or Danny through Facebook.
Past FoM winners, Laubach, Pauch, Johnson, Friesen and Martz will be in the field, competing for a spot in the starting line-up of the final Friends of Mike. The DIRTcar series regulars with names like Hearn, Sheppard, Fuller, Decker, Wight and Ward, Britten, Mahaney, Flach, Phelps, McLaughlin and Scagliotta will be at Bridgeport for the second race of the Super DIRTcar series. They will have to meet the challenges presented by Bridgeport regulars led by reigning champion, Ryan Watt, past champions, Wade Hendrickson & Rick Laubach, back-to-back feature winner, David Hunt, Neal Williams, Richie Pratt, Jr., Dominick Buffalino and a host of others. Add in the invaders from the Tri-state area – Duane Howard who has already collected a Bridgeport victory with his Norm Hansell owned ride, Jeff Strunk who has been very competitive on the 5/8th mile track this season, Ryan Godown who recently picked up a second place finish with the Atlas Trucking No. 66 and then there’s the “Sensational One”, Jimmy Horton who has collected more wins than any other driver in the history of the Bridgeport Speedway.
This will be a night that every race fan dreams of – with all of the top names in Modifieds right here at the Bridgeport Speedway for the first Super DIRTcar Series event since 2005!
Racing gets underway at 7:15. Come early and enjoy! There will be musical entertainment before the races get underway. Bridgeport offers a wide selection of appetizing offerings at their concession stands. Pick up a new t-shirt to add to your collection.
