HIRSCHMAN SWEEPS TURKEY DERBY MODIFIED RACES AT WALL SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Throughout the 2016 season Matt Hirschman lived up to his nickname “Big Money Matt” by winning many of the high paying races he entered. The Northampton, Pa. resident did it again on Saturday at Wall Stadium Speedway by winning both the Tour Type Modified and Wall Modified feature races during Turkey Derby XLIII. These two wins are added to the “Woody’s 105” race victory that he enjoyed in the summer here.
Hirschman collected a combined $9,000 by sweeping the 150-lap Tour Type feature and the 100-lap SK Modified feature.
“It’s a career day! That’s the only way to put it. I’ve been doing it for probably five or six years,” Hirschman said. “I’ve won each race on different years, but never in the same day. It’s incredible! It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I know Jimmy (Blewett) has done it before; I don’t know if anybody else has.
“I’m not the first to do it but it’s something I’ve wanted.”
Things seemed to be going Hirschman’s way early in the Tour Type Modified race when he was promoted to the inside of row one as a result of pole sitter Steven Reed failing to make the grid with a broken transmission. Hirschman dominated the majority of the event but nearly got tripped up late when former Turkey Derby winner Eric Mauriello of Howell jumped to the lead. Hirschman returned the favor on the following restarting jumping to the front and never again being headed.
Mauriello, Blewett, Brick’s Ron Frees, who had converted his Wall Modified to a Tour Type car, and Earl Paules of Palmerton, Pa. completed the top five in the 26 car field.
Things were not as easy for Hirschman during the Wall Modified feature. After losing a lap in time trials for being light at the scales in tech, Hirschman started in 13th. With a pack of cars around him, Hirschman made what would turn into a race-winning move near lap 25.
“We didn’t start up where I would’ve liked to and we were in a position that I didn’t like,” he explained after the race. “I thought something was going to happen. I thought it might not be the winning strategy, but let’s bail out of here, put our tires on, and hope it cycles through.
“The very next restart is when they all wrecked in three and four, so I went from last to eighth. It worked out, definitely the right thing to do, I don’t know why I felt like doing it, but it was a good feeling. From there I ran the car hard and it stayed with me.”
With Hirschman closing on the leader Jimmy Blewett, Blewett made what could’ve been a race-winning move when he went down pit road with just over 11 laps to go for new tires. Restarting around tenth Blewett charged through the pack to second before running out of time to challenge for the win.
Blewett, Matawan’s Anthony Sesely, Danny Bohn, and Holmdel’s Andrew Krause were second through fifth.
Blewett did enjoy a Modified win on Saturday taking top honors in the Dirt Modified 50-lap feature race. Krause came on to challenge later in the test before finishing second. Jim Brit, Mickey Kessler and Joey Payne wrapped up the top five.
Joe Ryan Osborn was a happy winner in Saturday’s 30-lapper for the Legend Cars over Mike Alcaro. Richie Davidowitz, Kyle Ellwood and Joe Graf completed the top five. In Sunday’s Legend Cars 40-lapper Alcaro took the win as Davidowitz, Noah Korner, Brandon Martinez and Kevin Nowak completed the top five.
Matt Roselli won Saturday’s TQ Midget 30-lapper.
On Friday, day one of Turkey Derby, Blewett was a winner in a wreck filled 50-lapper for the Sportsman cars holding off Mayetta’s Tyler Truex and Brick’s Dom Fattaruso. Andrew Bohn and Matt Langbein were fourth and fifth.
Shanon Mongeau of Manchester won Friday’s Limited Late Model 45-lapper over Wayne Coury. Chris Turbish, John Vullo and Marc Rogers were third through fifth.
Brick’s Joe Mongeau won Friday’s 40-lapper for the Factory Stocks over a challenging Rob McCormick. Richie Byrne, Scott Riggleman and Ron Booth were third through fifth. Sunday’s 50-lapper saw Union’s Joey Helberg take the victory with Shanon Mongeau, Tom Rajkowski, Tim O’Shea and Scott Riggleman completing the top five
Also on Friday Beachwood’s Todd Pilla won the 4 Cylinder Stock main event. Darren Burdge chased him across the line for second, while Christian LaCicero, Jason Lane and Jeff Loesch posted top five finishes. Shanon Mongeau returned to win the 75-lap main event for the 4 Cylinder Stocks on Sunday. Robert Sutphin, Dan Birdsall, Lee Allen and Jay Conrad wrapped up the top five.
On Sunday, day three of Turkey Derby, the Dirt Sportsman cars saw action with Joey Payne taking the win over Rich Coons, Dakota Kessler and Chuck Stone. The Dirt Outlaw Stocks were also on Sunday’s card with Brick’s Ron Frees taking the win with Brian Ludwig, Jon Meyer, Billy Wroble and Michael Creamer filling out the top five.
Jeff Henry won the demolition derby, final event of the season.
With the Turkey Derby now compete the 2016 season at Wall Stadium is in the record books. All attention is now turning to the 2017 season with the first pre-season testing session set for April 15.

LARGE FIELDS EXPECTED FOR WALL STADIUM TURKEY DERBY
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ If the overflowing number of cars that were in the Wall Stadium Speedway pit area for the two pre-race practice sessions are any indication, the 43rd running of the Turkey Derby stock car classic at Wall Stadium Speedway could feature a record setting field in both quality and quantity. The event is presented on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend during the daylight hours.
Among the Tour Type Modified standouts expressing interest in the annual classic are Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa., Jackson’s Steven Reed, Austin Kochenash of Danielsville, Pa., Dave Sapienza of Riverhead, N.Y., Howell speedster Eric Mauriello, Shaun Carrig of Little Falls, Les Hinkley of Windsor Locks, Ct., Holmdel’s Andrew Krause, Earl Paules of Palmertown, Pa. and Long Island racers Amber Fortin and Kenny Darch. Also planning to compete in Tour Type Modified action are Matawan’s Anthony Sesely, Jamie Tomaino of Howell, Brick’s Ron Frees, Tommy Catalano of Ontario, N.Y., Howell’s Jimmy Blewett, John Markovic of Bethlehem, Pa., Jonathan Mandato of Toms River and Freehold’s Chas Okerson. More entries are expected during the final two days leading up to the race.
The speedway’s own Downs Ford Modifieds will also be well represented by both local favorites and invaders. Ken Matlach of New Hyde Park, N.Y., Jason Hearne of New Egypt, Brick’s Marc Rogers, Dennis Perry of Pawcatwak, Ct., Derek Stachecki of South Harbor, N.Y., Buffalo, N.Y.’s Andy Jankowiak, Mike Benevides of Westerly, R.I., Howell’s Chris Lane, Derek Hopkinson of Toms River, Wall’s Jack Ely, Ricky Collins of Willow Grove, Pa. and Keith Rocco of Norwalk, Ct. are all reportedly planning to compete in the Wall Modified 100-lap feature. Howell’s Chris Reynolds, brothers Zack and Trevor Alspach, both of Willingboro, Shawna Ingraham of Brick, Adam LaCicero of Lavallette, Jackson’s Jason Treat and Manasquan’s Kenny Van Wickle also plan to be in the field.
Reed, Okerson, Sesely, Krause, Hirschman, Blewett, Mauriello, Carrig and Mandato are among those contemplating competition in both pavement type Modified races. In fact, both Blewett and Krause plan extra duty as they are also planning to compete in the Dirt Modified feature race. A healthy field of Dirt Modifieds has practiced during the two tune-up sessions.
In fact, each division that will compete in Turkey Derby action was well represented at both practice sessions indicating that large fields will be on hand for every class.
On Friday, November 25, day one of Turkey Derby, pit area gates will open at 6:30 a.m., practice will begin at 8:30 a.m. and grandstand seating will open at 9:30 a.m. Qualifying is set for 12:15 p.m. with feature racing scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. The Snap-on Sportsman cars will compete in a 50-lap main event, the Elite Maintenance Limited Late Models will battle in a 50-lapper, the O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stocks and the Surf Side Collision 4 Cylinder Stocks will each battle in 40-lap races.
On Saturday, November 26, the pit area will again open at 6:30 a.m. with practice at 8:30 a.m. and grandstands opening at 9:30 a.m. Qualifying will start at 11:00 a.m. with main events set for 1:00 p.m. The Tour Type Modifieds are set for a 150-lap, $5,000 to win feature race while the speedway’s Down Ford Modifieds will compete in a 100-lap feature race that offers $4,000 to the winner. Dirt Modifieds will also be on the Saturday card in a 50-lap feature and the Green Flag Driving Experience Legends cars will compete in a 30-lapper. The TQ Midgets will race on the inner oval in a 30-lap race.
The Turkey Derby weekend will then wrap up on Sunday, November 27, with pit gates opening at 10:00 a.m., practice starting at 11:00 a.m., qualifying at noon and main events set for 1:00 p.m. The Legend Cars will be competing in a 40-lapper and the Factory Stocks will race in a 50-lapper. The 4 Cylinder Stocks are set for a 75-lapper on Sunday while the Dirt Outlaw Stocks and the Dirt Sportsman cars have been added this season in 25-lap main events. A Demolition Derby will cap off Sunday’s action.
Among special awards offered for the weekend will be the Larsen Brothers Memorial Fast Time Award for both the Tour and Wall Modified divisions. The fast qualifier in each division will pocket $200.
A special commemorative Turkey Derby 43 sweatshirt will be available during the weekend and fans are reminded to bring small headset type radios to listen to the live call of the race events over the track’s 90.1 FM frequency. Campers are welcome but they are urged to call the speedway office prior to the event to make mandatory reservations.

The bright colors of the fall foliage were displayed throughout the area as the sun rays were shining early on at the Accord Speedway grounds on Saturday. The later afternoon weather turned chilly as the day wore on but it did not deter from the excitement or the enthusiasm of the combatants or the great crowd on hand as the Accord Speedway closed the curtain on their regular season with the running of the second annual Halloween Havoc event. The Palmer Family completed their sixteenth successful season of ownership and promotion of their pristine quarter mile facility nestled in the foothills of Ulster County in New York State. The multi-faceted show brought out 120 race car entries of all makes and sizes with both male and female driving stars seeking to close out the season in a fender banging blaze of glory. The event was sponsored by the John J Liggan Insurance Agency located in Rosendale, New York. Special assistance came from Marty and his Upstate Auto Group, located in Germantown, New York. Many special activities for the children in the Halloween themed event throughout the day took away the sting in the air and the exciting action on the track provided the fans with a day they can remember for some time to come.
When all was said and done, Craig "Hollywood" Mitchell was tricked up and rocking with his Freedom Plains sponsored hot rod as he captured the United Pump and Tank "Run What Ya Brung" division headliner. Connecticut ace Chris Lynch was spot on and richer for the experience as he worked his way through the field the field in the fifty lap Healey Brothers Group Sportsman event that paid $1,000.00 to win. The Arkel Motors Pure Stock division feature found Bob Sleight in championship form as the 2016 track champion wired the field as he drove to victory in the biggest payday of the season for the affordable racing division. Doug Norrie took no prisoners as he drove to daylight early in the combination POWRi Outlaw Midget/Lightning Sprint event at the speedway and came away with an impressive win. First time Garden State invader Rich Mellor captured the Northeast Wingless Sprint Car event with a wire to wire win. Dave Donovan started deep in the 38-car field and came storming through the filed to take over the point before the halfway marks and cruised to victory to capture the Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball Four Cylinder 50-lap Enduro finale.
The carnival-like atmosphere brought out a great crowd with plenty of children adorned in their Halloween attire. In a great gesture from the Palmer Family, the costume clad kids were all treated to a participation trophy and were further treated to some excellent candy treats administered from the drivers, fans and Accord staff during their Halloween parade through the grandstand area. Miss Accord Speedway, Michelle Campbell led the costume parade. Xavier McNeal, Kayla Ronk, Connor Maylan and Haylee Henneberry were the lucky recipients of bicycles donated by Upstate Auto. The Rich Roosa Family entertained the crowd with hayrides that traversed through the speedway grounds including the pit area so they could see the teams readying their racers for the day's events. "Uncle" Mike Hansen from WRWD 107.3 Radio joined in for the day's fun activities. Michael Hatzistergos provided the balloon sculpturing and pumpkin painting were some of the fun things to do at the speedway.
The "Run What Ya Brung" event proved to be interesting and entertaining as a nice field of unorthodox hot rods filled the pit area. Craig Mitchell scorched the track upon his arrival at Accord and it carried throughout the day as took the lead at the start of the event and was uncontested in his excellent drive to victory. Behind him was where the action was as up to six drivers all raced for runner-up honors. Mark Pullen ran an excellent race and held off all comers as he secured second place in his best run of the season. Danny Tyler was third in a hard fought battle with Randy Green finishing fourth and Kenny Ferrier racing to fifth in his conventional race car. Jimmy Becker was sixth with Richard Smith, Kevin Krom, Dillon Steuer, Brian Nelson and Dave Demorest following.
The Arkel Motors Pure Stock affair put the full fendered drivers to the ultimate test with a long distance event. Bob Sleight wasted no time in establishing the point and only the restarts brought the field in behind him as he owned the speedway from start to finish. Ryan Brockner ran an excellent race and came on strong to finish second. Former track champion Chris Streeter returned to action and finished up in third place with Livy Johnson fourth and steady Chris Kanuk completing the top five. Tom Southard, Curt Ayers, newcomer Zach Seyerlein, the returning Bob palmer and Harry Bachman completed the top ten.
Joey Bonetti took the lead at the start of the Sportsman fifty lapper after a first lap melee took some prisoners. Bonetti was pressured from the start by Stan Vishinski, Tighe Sherlock and Milton Mann. Making tracks of their own found Chris Lynch (13th), Brandon McGill (14th) and Danny Tyler (12th) moving quickly through the field. Chris Lynch was smooth as silk as his J&M Auto Repair sponsored hot rod was good whatever channel on the raceway he drove too. Lynch made his winning pass of Bonetti on lap-17 and led the rest of the way in claiming a great win at the speedway. McGill's solid second place finish went down the drain as he was found light at the scales and disqualified moving Danny Tyler into second in a great ride in the Mike DuBois owned racer. Joey Bonetti was third in a great run while Ryan Avery made the long tow down from New Hampshire and made the trip worthwhile as he drove from 22nd starting spot to finish fourth. Steady Leo Fotopolous completed the top five. Stan Vishinski, Milton Mann, Dave Demorest, the returning "Tommy Gun" Tommy Johnson and Nick Plumstead completed the to ten.
Jeff Champagne grabbed the lead at the start of the POWRi Outlaw Midget event that would be halted in turn three as Doug Norrie pulled a slider to grab the lead only to have Champagne run over his right rear wheel and send him into a series of flips. Champagne was unhurt in the incident. On the restart it was all Doug Norrie as he distanced himself from the field to go and capture the win. Keystone State ace Rohan Beasley made his first trip to the speedway a good one as he was a solid runner-up with Justin Phillips pushing him right to the checkered flag. Shilo Boyce, former track champion Peter Dance, Ricky Stone and Shea Montgomery completing the field.
Rich Mellor enjoyed his first ever trip to the Accord Speedway as the Wrightstown, New Jersey wheelman jumped out front at the start of the event and led all the way to capture the Northeast Wingless Sprint battle. Eric Jennings was second with Bobby Butler, Heidi Hedin, "Big" Al Cheney and 2016 track champion Jesse James Bartleson following.
The Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinder Enduro bombers began their event with a wild pile-up on the backstretch. While it didn't stop the event, negotiating the area made for some fancy maneuvering from all competitors. Early leader George Zeininger was slowed by a faulty sneaker and fell of the pace allowing Jeff DeGroat the lead. Dave Donovan began in 34th position but was hell bent for leather as he raced through the competition. Donovan finally caught DeGroat and the two traded off the lead for a few laps but DeGroat fell out of the event and Donovan was on a rail as he raced away through and around the field for the popular win. Joe Morris ran steady throughout and came away with runner-up honors while Johnny Bankich was a late addition to the field and came from scratch position to finish third in another great drive.

The fun-filled day at the Accord Speedway brought out a great crowd, a great group of competitors and despite the chilly challenges from Mother Nature proved to be a great day for all racing fans and drivers concerned. The crazy and outlandishly painted enduro cars provided a nice diversion from the grounding pounding full size race cars and the bumping and grinding of the on track competition provided for a delightful fall day in the Catskill Mountains. The fun and the entertainment value of the low-cost divisions has proven to be a tremendous opportunity for the budget minded competitors to enjoy their love of racing without having to dip so deeply into their pockets. Jim Bleau with his "Halloween adorned" and bright colored lights-on hot rod earned the best appearing theme based racer and earned a pie from the good folks at Grandma Anne's pies. All winners also received a pie in the Lucas Oil Products Victory Lane.
Miss Accord Speedway Michelle Campbell braved the cold weather as she greeted the winners in the Lucas Oil Products Victory Lane with her big smile and a few shivers as the temperatures dipped quickly as the sun disappeared.
Heat race winners included Jared LaBagh, Stan Vishinski, Tighe Sherlock and Joey Bonetti in the Sportsman. Run What Ya Brung heat winners included Craig Mitchell and Mark Pullen. Pure Stock heats were captured by Steve Williams and Bob Sleight. Eric Jennings captured the lone NEWS Sprint heat. Peter Dance and Jeff Champagne were the heat race winners for the POWRi Midgets.
The Chefs in the Accord kitchen were not to be outdone as a variety of hand-crafted sandwiches, chicken noodle soup, fried ravioli and churros proved to be big hits and the food lines were kept busy all day with the fans really digging into the great cuisine offered by the speedway chefs. By the end of the racing activity most of the cuisine filled many hungry bellies at the speedway.

KRAUSE SWEEPS SPOOKY MOD 50’S AT WALL SATURDAY
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. Andrew Krause fought off both heavy competition and mechanical trouble Saturday and won both 50 lap main events for the Downs Ford Modified stock cars during the annual “Spooky Spectacular” at Wall Stadium Speedway. The Holmdel resident, who finished third in regular season points that concluded on October 15, now has five wins this season.
In the first 50-lapper Krause fought off Howell’s Jimmy Blewett most of the way. When Blewett had late race trouble that forced him to drop from the race, Justin Gumley of Howell, New Egypt’s Jason Hearne, Timmy Solomito of Long Island and Howell’s Eric Mauriello all frantically swapped second through fifth spots before setting into the top five finishing spots in that order.
In addition to battling the competition in that first race Krause also battled a sour engine that ran on just six cylinders late in the event. Two broken rocker arms were repaired before the second race.
In that second Modified 50-lapper Solomito was Krause’s early challenger before the top runners started to swap positions in the second half of the race. Mauriello charged into second just past halfway while Zack Alspach of Willingboro raced home for third. Brick’s Shawna Ingraham and Gumley completed the top five.
“The car ran pretty good in the first race for only running on six cylinders near the end,” Krause said. “It was sounding like a diesel! Tom Martino and my crew fixed two broken rocker arms between races and it ran great in the second race! My family and my crew make this all possible.
“Right now Halloween is my favorite holiday!”
The O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stocks ran a pair of 30-lap feature races with newly crowned champion Joe Mongeau of Brick winning the first over Bayville’s Elliott Wohl. Ron Booth of Eatontown, Manchester’s Scott Riggleman and Whitey Miller of Jamesburg completed the top five.
Booth came back to win the second Factory Stock 30-lapper after taking the lead on lap five. Riggleman, Mongeau, Howell’s Richie Byrne and Wohl were second through fifth.
Tyler Truex of Mayetta won the 40-lapper for the Snap On Sportsman cars. Blake Barney of Jackson was the runner-up while Manasquan’s Kenny Van Wickle, Howell’s Kevin Davison and Ray Fattaruso of Brick wrapped up the top five.
West Milford’s Mike Alcaro won the 30-lapper for the Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars while Long Island’s Richie Davidowitz was second. Newly crowned champ Louie Keraitis of Toms River, Allan Pedersen and Peter Bruno were third through fifth.
The annual “Turkey Derby” will wrap up the 2016 season during the daylight hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. In preparation for the “Turkey Derby,” practice sessions are planned for November 12 and November 19. Once the “Turkey Derby” is contested all attention will be focused on the 2017 season, which will begin with practice sessions starting on April 15.

Nothing says champion like sweeping the weekend at The Dirt Track at Charlotte
CONCORD, N.C. - October 29, 2016 - Matt Sheppard, the driver of the FX Caprara No. 9s Big Block Modified, made a mark in history this weekend as he broke a record and won his fifth Super DIRTcar Series Championship. Sheppard proved once again that he was the man to beat Saturday night during the Bad Boy Off Road World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
"This place was so racy tonight," said Sheppard in victory lane. "These big blocks put on a heck of a show tonight. We were racing two, three, four wide there. Last time we started on the pole and led the whole race. I was happy to get that win and tonight was even more satisfying. Starting in the back a little bit further and driving through the field. I just can't say enough about this racecar. It was just fantastic."
Pat Ward and Justin Haers led the 29-car field to the initial green flag. On the drop of the green, a four-car battle for the lead emerged as Ward, Hears, Brett Hearn and Billy Decker all ran wire-to-wire - until Haers took the lead and pulled away from the field on lap two.
Decker, who started fifth, slid his way into third as he began to chase down Ward.
It didn't take long for eighth place starter, Sheppard, to make his way into the picture as he slipped his way under Tim Fuller and advanced into fifth on lap ten.
The first caution of the night was brought out due to a slow moving Mike Mahaney.
Racing once again resumed but not for long as Ryan Watt made hard contact with the turn one wall on lap 12.
Keith Flach, Erick Rudolph and Mike Maresca made contact going into turn three, sending Flach flipping on lap 14.
The third restart of the night saw Hearn running the outside line as Sheppard tried to sneak up underneath him. Hearn didn't give up that easily as he managed to close the door on Sheppard.
Justin Haers held a steady lead at the halfway mark over Ward, Decker, Hearn and Sheppard.
The battle for third began to heat up as Hearn and Sheppard started closing in on Decker on lap 24.
Wight soon made his way into the picture as four cars began to battle side-by-side for the third position.
As the battle for third continued, Haers caught the back end of the pack with just eight laps remaining.
Sheppard was a man on the move as he moved his way into third on lap 32 then soon began to close in on Ward.
Sheppard charged hard into one and slid up out of two to pass Ward for second on lap 35.
Haers got out of shape coming out of turn four and Sheppard was there to take advantage. Sheppard blew by Hears on the front stretch and went on to take the lead on lap 36.
Another yellow was thrown with two laps to go due to a slowing Tyler Dippel.
Ward took advantage of the lap 38 restart as he drove by Haers for second, setting his sights on Sheppard.
Ward ran out of time and fell one spot short as Sheppard crossed the line first over Ward, Haers, Hearn and Wight to sweep the weekend at The Dirt Track at Charlotte and to capture his fifth Super DIRTcar Series Championship.
"It's like we flipped a light switch there about halfway and that thing just took off like a missile," Sheppard said. "When I could see Justin and Pat there I wanted to win this race again. I didn't want to settle for third. Thankfully this car was good enough that we could do it."
Ward had a competitive car as it showed this weekend during World Finals by placing his No. 42p Big Block Modified in the top five in both features.
"Sheppard has had a very dominant car. You can't say enough about the way he's been running," Ward said. "Justin bobbled one time and it just happened to be when Matt was up under me and I was just kind of hoping Justin did that sooner so I could get by. It was a heck of a race between the three of us."
Friday nights second place finisher was looking to get the job done and move one spot forward but ended up closing out the season with a third place finish.
"We'll take it. We were on a little bit different tire than Pat and Matt," Haers said. "I wanted to move down because the top was getting so far out there, my right front was harder than both of these guys. I just couldn't turn anymore, then I'd get lose up off.
A true podium finish in Charlotte, we can't complain."
"I honestly didn't know how many laps were left," laughed Sheppard. "I knew there couldn't be a ton. I was running just as hard as I could and luckily we were able to get to the lead. When we got the lead it was kind of a sigh of relief. Again, I didn't want to see that yellow at the end but just like last night this car is so good. It felt good to win the race last night but to do it the way we did it tonight felt even better."
Sheppard proved early on in the season that his new team combination was a force to reckoned with. "It's kind of funny, we started off good in Florida and came out strong. Then the first series race at Fulton I think I finished seventeenth or something, it was awful. Then after that it was like we just really got rolling. I mean twelve series wins in one year, wow, that's unbelievable. I think we even had four or five seconds too. When you can finish first or second in 17 of the races that's pretty impressive. It just goes to show we built a potent team this winter. We had all the right parts, crew, car, engines, the whole deal. Everybody and everything did its job. It's just a dream season."
Matt Sheppard was no stranger to doing the confetti dance in victory lane this year as he broke the record for the most wins in a season and clinched the Super DIRTcar Series championship, for the fifth time.

Cruises to eleventh Super DIRTcar Series win

CONCORD, N.C. - October 28, 2016 - Matt Sheppard won his eleventh Super DIRTcar Series feature in style by setting a new series record for the most wins in a season Friday night at The Dirt Track at Charlotte during the Bad Boy Off Road World Finals.
Sheppard started off World Finals strong by winning his heat and drawing the pole for the 40-lap main event. It was smooth sailing from there on out.
"This car is awesome," said Sheppard in victory lane. "It's been awesome since we got here. We haven't had to touch a thing on it. When you have a car that good it makes my life easy.
We started our own team here this winter and to come out and have a record-breaking year like this, I never would have dreamed of it."
Sheppard and Justin Haers led the 28-car field to the initial green flag.
Mat Williamson was on the move early as he passed Dave Blaney for third-place on the third lap of the 40-lap feature event.
Sheppard drew off a sizable lead over Haers as he caught the tail end of the field by lap eight.
Sheppard worked his way through heavy traffic allowing Haers to close in by lap 15.
Haers began to put pressure on Sheppard in lapped traffic as he looked to make his move. Haers shot up high opening the door for Blaney to dive under him in turn one to take over second. Haers didn't give up though as the battle for second began to heat up.
"We got stock there behind a couple lapped cars and I got to his back bumper, I was going to try and take a couple laps and just try to roll him on the outside," Haers said. "As soon as I did it Blaney went by me so I had to try and get back by him. I was just trying to protect the bottom."
Sheppard led the field to the halfway mark over Blaney, Haers, Williamson and Pat Ward.
Ward made a flawless move as he slid under Williamson but Williamson didn't give up as he passed him back for fourth. It wasn't for long until Ward once again took fourth place.
The first caution of the night was brought out with eight laps remaining.
Ward took advantage of the first restart of the night as he advanced himself into third.
The second caution of the night was due to a tangle up between Mike Mahaney and Jimmy Horton in turns three and four on lap 35.
Racing once again resumed with five laps remaining as Sheppard led the way over Haers, Ward, Wight and Decker.
The caution flag flew once again as Max McLaughlin came to a complete stop on the backstretch with four laps remaining.
There was one more caution of the night and it was due to Keith Flach who spun in turns three and four with one lap to go.
On the ensuing restart Decker shot to the outside of Haers as he tried to make the move of the night but it didn't happen as Haers immediately closed the door for second-place.
At the checkered it was all Sheppard taking the win and breaking the all-time Super DIRTcar Series record which was set back in 2008 by Decker. Brett Hearn previously held the record before Decker which was set back in 2002.
"You feel like you're getting a good rhythm and you're rolling along there pretty good and you see the yellow come out," Sheppard said. "I really didn't want to see that yellow there on lap 39. The car was so good we were able to hold on. I'm just really excited to get this win down here in Charlotte. What a dream season."

Over 160 Cars Took to the Track for Qualifying During Night One of Bad Boy World of Outlaws World Finals
Thursday's Qualifying sets lineups for Friday and Saturday's Portion of Bad Boy Off Road World Finals
CONCORD, N.C. - October 28, 2016 - On a warm and clear October night, over 160 race cars from the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Cars, World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Models, and the Big-Block Modifieds from the Super DIRTcar Series took to the four-tenths-mile oval for night one of the Bad Boy World of Outlaws World Finals for qualifying.
Qualifying from Thursday's portion of the 3-day Bad Boy World Finals event sets the line-ups for Friday and Saturday's program.

Thursday's Big-Block Modified Qualifiers and Heats Set Line-Ups for Friday and Saturday's Events.
The Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds took on The Dirt Track at Charlotte Thursday night as they completed the first night of the Bad Boy Off Road World Finals with group time trials and heat races to help construct Friday and Saturday's feature events.
Forty-Six Big-Block Modifieds made the trek down to The Dirt Track at Charlotte to take center stage at the most prestigious dirt racing event in the country.
The Big-Block Modifieds were the first cars to hit the track during Thursday night's qualifying festivities. Larry Wight was the fastest overall in the Friday night group time trial session with a time of 15.582 seconds. In the Saturday night portion Justin Haers set fastest overall with a time of 15.860 seconds. Both drivers received the Pole Position Raceway Fast Time Award.
Four cars transferred out of the heat races and into each of the A-mains. The winners of each heat will redraw for their starting positions. Friday nights heat races were won by Mat Williamson, Dave Blaney, Justin Haers, Larry Wight and Matt Sheppard. Saturday nights heat races were won by Pat Ward, Haers, Brett Hearn, Wight and Billy Decker.
Day two of the Bad Boy Off Road World Finals will get underway on Friday at 4pm for hot laps. The two remaining consolations will be the driver's last chance to qualify for Friday night's 40-lap feature.

World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series
McCreadie and Richards Set the Pace for Qualifying at Bad Boy Off Road World Finals
The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series took to The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Thursday for the first night of the Bad Boy Off Road World of Outlaws World Finals. It was not a slow ease into the weekend of racing for the 69 Late Model drivers, as they had to hit the dirt hot and heavy to claim their spots in the feature for the next two evenings of World Finals right off the bat.
The night held one round of Hot Laps and two rounds of Time Trials for The Outlaw Late Models. The first round of Time Trials set the lineup for Friday's Heat Races and likewise the second round of Time Trials placed the drivers for Saturday's Heat Races.
Tim McCreadie hit the track with authority and showed no mercy to his opponents as he claimed the fastest time during the first round of Time Trials with a lap time of 14.761. Only seven drivers of the 69 cars entered were able to break a 15-second lap time including: Chris Madden, Shane Clanton, Dale Hollidge, Austin Smith, Josh Richards and Dale McDowell.
McCreadie held the fastest lap overall and the fastest in Flight A. Richards took the top spot for Flight B with a 14.809 lap time.
"You know qualifying means a lot and usually in the heats it's fairly tacky. It's hard to make a lot of time up so you know going out there and putting on a good lap it helps. That's why we're here -- we want to line up out front in the clean air," said McCreadie.
In round two of Time Trials, Richards held on to the fastest lap with a time of 14.876. He was the only driver to break the 15-second barrier during the second round. Richards was the fastest in his flight and the fastest over all. McCreadie held on to be the fastest in Flight B with a 15.052.
After taking over tonight's fastest time in his flight, ultimately granting him a starting position on the front row for both of his Heat Races on Friday and Saturday, Richards is gaining ground on beating the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series single-season win record which he is only one feature-win away from claiming. Although tonight McCreadie proved tonight he may be the man to beat as he and Richards claimed the top positions for both rounds of Time Trials.
"Everywhere we go we want to win, that's why we do it," said McCreadie. "We work pretty hard on this car and we put it together and did some practicing with it and it's been a lot of effort from everybody on this car so it's exciting to see it happen, well at least in qualifying so far. We want to win, we want them both, if we're lucky."

Hodnett, Stewart Record Quick Time at World Finals - Will lead the charge in heats Friday and Saturday
Greg Hodnett and Shane Stewart share the spoils of recording quick times for the first night of the Bad Boy Off Road World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. Both will lead their respective heats into the green flag during the Friday and Saturday program.
Hodnett, who recorded the third fastest time in hot laps earlier in the program, bested the field with a 12.633. The Memphis, Tenn. sprint car veteran placed second earlier this month at the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series show at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway. This time, Hodnett will lead the 49-car field into Friday's heat races.
"The track's really nice. They did a great job," said Hodnett, who learned in hot laps to cut through the bottom of turns three and four. "In hot laps we were running through the middle, but the bottom got a little better. In our last lap in hot laps, I moved down and it was pretty quick. We made it stick in [turns three and four]. I think that was the key in our qualifying lap."
Hodnett, 41, topped World of Outlaws frontrunner Daryn Pittman in the first of two flights. Pittman, who was second fastest in hot laps, was beat by a .079-second margin. Stewart eventually split the two, clocking-in at 12.644 in the following group. Stewart ultimately recorded the second fastest time of both flights behind Hodnett.
"I was able to watch Hodnett's lap before I went out," Stewart said. "Being low on the racetrack helped us a little bit. [The track is] tricky. You got to be low, but you can't be so low where you hit the tires. So, [turns] three and four I felt like I gave up a little time. I wish I would have been a little lower on the second lap in [turn] three and four. We probably would have had quick time."
In the second session of qualifying to decide Saturday's heat lineups, Stewart traded quick time honors with Hodnett. Hodnett, who followed-up his strong performance with the fastest time in the first flight, ultimately fell to Stewart and two other series regulars in the second flight. Stewart's 12.826 lap time was .101 seconds faster than Hodnett's mark.
Platinum drivers Pittman and Joey Saldana jumped Hodnett for second and third fastest.
Hodnett said in turns three and four the track was slick, but fast enough where it "induced grip" with the winged sprints. Stewart admitted he could have wheeled his racecar deeper into the corners, and for the second session he did just that.
"It honestly felt like people were losing a little ground in [turn] four," Stewart said. "I knew if I could get off that corner a little lower on the exit than the guys ahead of me, then I knew my lap was going to be pretty good. I knew the guys ahead were running the top in turns one and two and low in three and four. After I qualified, I felt like I could have run the car low in [turns] one and two. It's all about getting in the front row of your heat. Confidence is crucial, and hopefully we can capitalize."
