TSRS FEATURE “FOGGED OUT” AT NEW EGYPT – POSTPONED TO MAY 30TH
Posted by: | CommentsNew Egypt, NJ (May 9, 2015)...Due to fog and unsafe racing conditions, the officials of both New Egypt Speedway and The Tri-State Racesavers Series found it necessary to postpone the remaining fifteen laps of Saturday’s feature to a later date, which will be on May 30th, when the TSRS sprints make their return to New Egypt. Before the race was called, Adam Carberry, of Bensalem PA, was leading Gabe Fox, Karl Fryer, Tommy Carberry, and Joe Lord around the Central Jersey oval.
There were twenty-six TSRS/NERS sprints taking part of the “Mother’s Day” race, with three heat race wins going to Tim Tanner Jr, Mark Bitner, and Brad Franks. The consolation event was won by Dave Brown Jr. In honor of Mother’s Day, New Egypt Speedway gifted all of the ladies going into the front gates with a flower courtesy of John Gasko & Sons Farm and Greenhouses in Monroe Township, NJ.
The top eight finishers from each heat were qualified for the invert, allowing Gabe Fox and Adam Carberry to bring the field to the green. Gabe Fox led the first two laps of the feature, until Adam Carberry took over the top spot on lap three, charging hard on the outside. Carberry continued to lead heading into the fourth circuit, gaining over a half a straight away over Fox, with Karl Fryer now pressuring Fox for the second spot.
The red flag was brought out on lap five for Bob DeVault, who flipped violently down the backstretch after making contact with the number 99 of Stefanie Palmai, while exchanging for tenth position. Bob was darting through the field from his sixteenth starting spot, setting his sights on the top ten before the accident. DeVault thankfully walked away unhurt, but the condition of his All-State Auto Glass number 10 sprinter could not say the same. Meanwhile, Jeff Geiges exited his car in a hurry due to a fire occurring in his Hamill Flooring number 77, also walking away uninjured.
When the cars were all pushed off, in an attempt to begin the race again, officials decided to call the race, as the heavy fog settled, making it not only difficult for the drivers to see ahead of them, but it was impossible for fans sitting in the grandstands to see the front stretch.
Kody Kinser, cousin to sprint car great Steve Kinser, made his first start in a 305 sprint car this weekend at New Egypt, piloting TSRS rookie driver Zach Burd’s number 5Z. Kinser, who is a 410 sprint car regular, races primarily out in the Mid-West, made the hike from his Brownsburg IN hometown to race with TSRS after hearing about the popularity of the Series. Kinser commented on the difference between the 305’s and the 410’s, stating that even with the smaller motors, they are not easy to drive. At the time of the “fog-out”, Kody was running in 14th position. Kody is interested in coming back east hopefully this summer for the Jersey Rush in August with his 410 sprint car, also expressing much interest in racing with the Tri-State Racesaver Series again in the near future.
The next race on the TSRS schedule is set for Friday, May 22nd, at Bridgeport Speedway. Visit www.tsrs1.com or our Facebook page for more details on upcoming events.

LORD HOLDS OFF WAGNER & HAGGENBOTTOM TO WIN CO-SANCTIONED FEATURE EVENT AT NEW EGYPT
Posted by: | CommentsLORD HOLDS OFF WAGNER & HAGGENBOTTOM TO WIN CO-SANCTIONED FEATURE EVENT AT NEW EGYPT
New Egypt, New Jersey
By Erika Palmai Wagner
Joe Lord, of Allentown NJ, claimed not only his first victory of the 2015 season, but also the very first TSRS/NERS co-sanctioned feature event of the year. Lord led all twenty laps of the electrifying 305 sprint car showdown, with hotshot competitors Eddie Wagner and Mike Haggenbottom lurking closely behind, looking to capture their first win of the season as well. It was Lord though, who ultimately mastered the heavy lap traffic ahead, with Wagner, Haggenbottom, Tim Tanner Jr. and Dave Brown Jr. rounding out the top five.
There were twenty-nine competitors signed in for the night’s events, with three heat race wins going to Bob DeVault, Brad Franks, and Mark Bitner. The b-main event was won by rookie Randy Wilbert.
This was the first time the Tri-State Racesaver Series had returned to New Egypt Speedway in over a year, and what a way to come back!

#70 Eddie Wagner #9 Joe Lord (WoS photo)
Joe Lord and Eddie Wagner set the pace, front running the field to the green flag. Lord took charge of the lead immediately over Wagner. Mike Haggenbottom, who started in sixth place, sling-shotted his way to the top groove of turn one, finding his way to the second position coming out of turn two. By the time the lead cars were coming out of turn four to complete the first lap, the first and only caution of the race came out for Harris Kohen who spun out in turn two. With no laps completed, this meant the field was to return back to their initial starting positions.
On the restart, Joe Lord rushed to the lead with Eddie Wagner following in second. By lap two there was already some excitement beginning to erupt with the battle for third position between Tim Tanner Jr., Mike Haggenbottom and Chris Allen. The leaders reached lap traffic by lap five, but they were having no problem diving in and out of the slower cars. Samantha Lieberman made contact with the turn two outside wall, but saved her car enough not to bring out a second caution.
By lap 12, Lord had skimmed through some of the slower traffic and had clear sights ahead until reaching yet another pack of lapped cars. With the ten car length lead he had gained while running in clean air, Wagner was beginning to close the gap up, with Haggenbottom trailing not far behind.
"I didn't really think about who was behind me and how close they were during that time," stated Lord. "I figured my lead had shortened but it wasn't the main thing on my mind. With the deterioration of track conditions and the traffic, my main focus was to stay calm and patient, and to not force the situation."
In traffic, Wagner, who had reached Lord by lap sixteen, attempted multiple times to make the winning pass, but he could not complete the act. Both drivers showed their patience and skills throughout the feature, while still remaining determined to end as a victor. Mike Haggenbottom reached both cars by lap seventeen, throwing in his attempts to claim the top spot, but like Wagner, he too could not complete the pass.
Lord explained that he did not feel much pressure from Eddie and Mike the last few laps, even though they were closing in. "I knew where my line was and I knew where the lapped cars would be, and knowing that gave me the confidence to keep my cool and pull it off. For the last few laps, patience was the main thing on my mind. I knew I didn't have much tread left in my tires and with the unpredictable lapped traffic, I had to keep a cool head."
On the last tour around the Central Jersey D-Shaped oval, Wagner seemed to gain momentum going down the back stretch, coming up quickly on Lord going into turn three. Wagner dove in high and tried to come out low, peddling the car slowly enough not to break loose the back tires, but Joe Lord came out of turn four a car length quicker, grabbing the win.
Joe, who struggled the first few weeks of the season was very pleased with the outcome of the feature. "I'd like to thank Mark & Fred Bitner for all their help in getting this car dialed in over the past few weeks. I'd also like to thank Mark Smith at Mach 1 chassis, and my sponsors Hamilton Automotive, Lord Legal Nurse Consultants LLC, Bitner Automotive, and the entire Lord Racing Team, especially my cousin Mike Lord and my brother Rob Lord. Finally, I'd like to thank the man who made this all possible, my father, Joe Lord Sr."
Next Saturday, May 2nd, The Hilborn Fuel Injection Tri-State Racesaver Series returns to the “fastest dirt track on the East”, Bridgeport Speedway. The main gates are open at 4:40pm, hot-laps are set to begin at 5:20pm and heat races will be on the track by 6pm. Visit www.tsrs1.com or our Facebook page for more details on upcoming events.

Sammy Piazza Wins Season Finale, Godown Captures 2nd Championship
Five Divisions Crown Champs Saturday at NES
New Egypt, NJ (Sept. 27, 2014) – Sammy Piazza of Lawrenceville, NJ won his first feature event of the season on Championship Night at New Egypt Speedway. The 2014 champion was crowned earlier when former (2012) champ Ryan Godown clinched is second championship in three years when he drove thru the gate at the start of the evening, as his show up points put him out of reach of his competition. Piazza led wire to wire in what could be called a dominant performance in the 30 lap Modified feature claiming his second career victory.
Championships were on the line in all five divisions on this evening, and the four support divisions all had first time champions celebrating at nights end. Johnny Cornell III clinched his first ever Sportsman title by winning the 20 lap feature, as did NERS 305 Sprint car chauffeur Phil Meisner Jr. The other two champs won their first title on this evening by racing home second in the main event to the defending 2013 champion. Mike Butler won the Crate Modified title by virtue of his second place finish to Eric Palmer, while Bill Liedtka was crowned Street Stock champ when he ran runner-up to Dan Collamer.

#29 Sammy Piazza (WoS photo)
Piazza grabbed the lead from his pole starting position at the onset, controlling the field at the start as Tad Cox made his way to the front quickly. Piazza led by a comfortable 5 car lengths for the first 20 laps as every time the duo approached lapped traffic a caution would reset the action. With a late green flag run from halfway, Cox closed in on the leader with 5 laps remaining bringing the crowd to their feet. Cox caught Piazza in the heavy traffic and actually pulled alongside of him at one point before the red flag came out for 2 separate incidents as Billy Pauch Jr.’s car caught fire in the infield 1 lap after pulling out of the event while running third, & Chris Grbac’s car broke the driveshaft as he tried to stop in turn two causing him to exit his car quickly. With “clean air” in front of the leaders, Piazza went right back out in front by the same five car lengths over Tad Cox to the checkered flag. Neal Williams raced through the field to finish third, David Van Horn brought his fast #71 home fourth and Jimmy Blewett passed Billy Pauch on the final lap to grab fifth.

#87 John Cornell III (WoS photo)
Johnny Cornell III of Neshanic Station, NJ was crowned the 2014 Sportsman champion after he won his second feature of the season. Alan Bleacher was impressive with a strong second place run, with Brian Roemer third, Mike Hendershot fourth and defending champ and the point leader coming into the event Bob Lineman Jr. settling for fifth.

#1 Phil Meisner Jr. on his way to victory (WoS photo)
Phil Meisner Jr. started the night 22 points behind Mike Haggenbottom for the NERS 305 Sprint Car championship. He then took full advantage of his pole starting spot as he led all 20 laps of the non-stop feature event holding off a very fast Stef Palmai in lapped traffic for his first win of the season and collecting the first ever NES 305 Sprint Car championship. Palmai came home second, followed by Bobby Devault, Joe Lord and Tommy Carberry Jr. Four-time winner Haggenbottom, who needed to finish in the top four to clinch the title, was moving up quickly on the second lap from eighth to fifth when contact in traffic sent him bouncing high in the air. He quickly settled the car down finding himself out of the top ten and could only rebound to finish 8th.

#42 Dan Collamer on his way to victory (WoS photo)
Dan Collamer of Waretown, NJ had hopes of winning his second straight NES Street Stock championship, and he did what he had to do by winning the event; however it wasn’t enough as Bill Liedtka finished second and took his first ever title. Following these two across the finish line were Gary Klimeczek, Bill Connolly and Todd Dige.

#12e Eric Palmer on his way to victory (WoS photo)
In the Crate Modified event, 2-time defending champ Eric Palmer ended the season on a winning note with point leader Mike Butler of Milford, NJ finishing a strong second and earning his second championship in a week, as he was crowned the All-Star Cup Crate champ last Saturday here. Steve Hicks rebounded back from two tangles showing heavy sheet metal damage to finish third, with Mike Carman and Jimmy Martin rounding out the top five.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…
Billy Pauch, Jr. Wins $10K and NES All Star Cup Championship

Billy Pauch Jr. on his way to victory (WoS photo)
New Egypt, NJ (Sept. 20, 2014) – Billy Pauch Jr. of Frenchtown, NJ continued his breakout season Saturday night at New Egypt Speedway as he bested his dad to take top honors in the $10,000 to win 40-lap All-Star Cup Shootout and be crowned the 2nd All Star Cup champion. Pauch Jr. used the only restart of the event on lap 19 to grab the lead from Richie Pratt Jr. He then held off his father, 6-time champion Billy Pauch, with flawless driving thru heavy lapped traffic to post his 3rd win of the season at NES.
“Wow, what a great race, I am out of breath” stated the popular winner in victory lane, “I have to thank Rick Holsten and the whole crew, they have given me great equipment to drive.”
Richie Pratt and David Van Horn brought the field to the start with Pratt surging into the lead. Pauch Jr. started fourth by the luck of the draw and quickly worked into second chasing Pratt as the duo set a torrid pace. By lap 8 they approached lap traffic with Pauch Jr. on Pratt’s back bumper. Lapped traffic became very heavy by lap 12 with Pratt expertly handling it as he threaded the needle thru the back markers that were two and sometimes three wide in front of them. Pauch Jr. was equally impressive matching Pratt move for move and staying with the leader. When the only caution of the race waved on lap 19 Pratt chose the outside lane for the restart as is the leaders choice. As the green flag flew, Pauch Jr. won the drag race into turn #1 and assumed command as Danny Bouc and Pauch Sr. made their presence known charging into second and third. Bouc kept pace with Pauch Jr., keeping him in sight as lapped traffic loomed ahead. With 8 laps remaining, the top three entered heavy lapped traffic again with Pauch Sr. taking advantage of Bouc getting stuck on the outside of a lapped car and took over second. The final five laps saw the elder Pauch trying to school his son in the art of lapping cars, but Billy Jr. has already learned enough as masterfully sliced through the slower cars to capture the biggest race of his young career. Pauch Sr. settled for second, with Bouc a close third. Early race leader Pratt drove home fourth as Tad Cox rounded out the top five. Ryan Godown came home sixth followed by Jimmy Blewett, Neal Williams, Dominick Buffalino and David Van Horn.

Brian Papiez on his way to victory (WoS photo)
In the first ever Crate Modified All Star Cup Shootout, Brian Papiez took an early lead and then held off all comers as he led most of the 30 lap event to collect the $5500 top prize. Delaware invader Scott Hitchens ran up front the whole race and came home with a strong second place finish. Jim Housworth returned to NES and finished third, followed by Bryan Kuhl and Eric Palmer. Mike Butler won his first ever championship as his 8th place finish was good enough to make him the 2014 All-Star Cup champion.

Kyle Reinhardt on his way to victory (WoS photo)
The NERS 305 Sprint cars also had their first ever All Star Cup Shootout and Kyle Reinhardt of Neptune City, NJ rocketed from his 8th place starting position to take the victory in the 25 lap feature. David Brown Jr. led the early laps and held on to finish second, while Mike Haggenbottom took the All Star Cup Championship with his third place finish after starting 12th. Kyle Purks finished fourth and Mark Bitner was fifth.
One event remains on the 2014 schedule as next Saturday night, Sept. 27, it is Championship night at New Egypt Speedway. All five divisions will crown a champion as the 358 Modifieds, Crate Modifieds, Sportsman, NERS 305 Sprints and Street Stocks will all be in action. Gates open at 4pm with the first race at 6pm. Twenty-six sprint cars took part in time trials with Lance Dewease setting fast time with a time of 13.461. Heat race events were sponsored by Lentini Auto Salvage with $200 going to the winners that included Lucas Wolfe, Freddie Rahmer and Davey Sammons.

Ryan Smith on his way to victory (WoS photo)
In the 30 lap Jersey Rush sprint feature, Ryan Smith took the lead at the drop of the green followed by Mark Smith and Freddie Rahmer. Smith quickly established a comfortable lead with JJ Grasso and Lucas Wolfe on the move to the front. On lap ten, the first caution was displayed for Joey Hershey who stopped in turn four. On the restart, Smith now had to contend with Mark Smith and two time Jersey Rush winner JJ Grasso. At the halfway mark, Ryan Smith was on top followed by Mark Smith, JJ Grasso, Freddie Rahmer and Lucas Wolfe.
By lap nineteen, the battle was now between Mark Smith and Grasso for second. On lap twenty-one, Grasso moved into second and began the task of chasing down Ryan Smith.
Following a lap twenty-three restart, Lucas Wolfe made a strong run and advanced to second, passing JJ Grasso going into turn one. With five laps remaining, Wolfe was reeling in Ryan Smith as slower traffic was now making the race very interesting. On lap twenty-seven, Wolfe pulled along-side of Smith but the pass was not going to be completed this time.
Smith pulled a two car length advantage but with two laps remaining, Wolfe was back in the hunt. With the white flag waving, Wolfe took another run for the lead but Ryan Smith was not to be denied his first 410 win and a $5,000 payday. Lucas Wolfe finished second, JJ Grasso third, Kyle Reinhardt was fourth with Freddie Rahmer making up the top five.
The three Lentini Auto Salvage Modified heats were won by Dominick Buffalino, Billy Pauch and Ryan Godown.

In the 30 lap modified feature, Neal Williams set the pace for the first two circuits with Billy Pauch taking the lead on lap three. Williams fought back to try and regain the lead but Pauch held on to the top spot. On lap eight Doug Manmiller moved into second and by lap twelve, Manmiller was challenging Pauch for the lead.
At the halfway point, Pauch and Manmiller were at the front of the pack with Jimmy Blewett third, Williams fourth and Keith Hoffman. On lap eighteen, Blewett moved into second and now it was up to him to take the win away from Pauch. With five laps remaining, the top five was Pauch, Blewett, Manmiller, , Keith Hoffman and Duane Howard.
In the final two closing laps, Blewett caught Pauch and offered several challenges but at the drop of the checkered flag, the $3,000 payoff went to Pauch. Blewett was second with Doug Manmiller third, Keith Hoffman was fourth and Duane Howard fifth.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…
New Egypt, NJ (July 12, 2014) Billy Pauch Jr. of Frenchtown, NJ recorded his first win in the Rick Holsten owned #96 Saturday night as he captured the 30 lap Modified feature at New Egypt Speedway. Pauch Jr. impressed all on hand as he grabbed the lead on lap #5 and then pulled away from his dad, 6 time champion Billy Pauch, with ease on the final restart with 4 laps remaining.
PJ Oliver and DJ Ruppert brought the field to the start with Oliver leading the first couple of laps as Neal Williams & Gary Butler moved in to challenge. Pauch Jr. quickly chased those two with all three drivers battling for the lead. Pauch Jr. wrestled the top spot away from them as Pauch Sr. was already fifth after just 5 laps from his 14th starting spot. By lap 10, Pauch had moved in to second to chase his son while point leader Ryan Godown was up to third. Pauch and Godown raced hard nose to tail but could not make up any ground on the younger Pauch as he was flawless in traffic. As the laps clicked off it seemed that Pauch Jr was going to cruise to the victory when the final caution flag appeared with 4 laps remaining. However the restart was anti climactic as Pauch Jr. easily pulled away to win his first of the season at NES. Billy Pauch Sr. broke on the final lap going down the backstretch as Godown went on to claim the runner up spot. Gary Butler drove a nice race to finish third, with Willie Osmun and Neal Williams rounding out the top five.
Mike Haggenbottom of Levittown, PA won for the second straight week in the New Egypt RaceSavers 305 Sprint Car 20 lap feature. Haggenbottom did it a little bit easier than his last lap pass last week, as this time he got to the front early after a hard battle with Mark Bitner and set a pace that was difficult for the rest of the field to match. Phil Meisner Jr. finished second with a late race charge past Bitner and Bobby Devault. Bitner ended up third, followed by Devault and 13th starter Stefanie Palmai.
Mike Hendershot of Hackettstown, NJ won for the second time in a month, after going almost 20 years between wins. The event looked like it would be an easy win for Mike Lyons until his motor broke under yellow with 2 laps remaining. This gave the lead to JT Trstensky who was looking for his first ever win, however Hendershot had other ideas as he got by Trstensky going into turn 3 on the final lap and then held off Trstensky’s crossover move in turn four to win by a bumper! Mike Butler, Johnny Cornell and Jason Dunn followed the duo across the stripe.
Bill Liedtka rebounded this week to take top honors in the Street Stock 20 mlap feature. Leidtka drove a superb race holding off Todd Dige for the victory. Jason Saredy, John Carpenter and Dan Collamer rounded out the top five.
Next Saturday NES takes a break from its regular Saturday racing presenting a Demo Derby & Mud Hop starting at 5:30pm. There will also be a 4 cyl. Enduro on the slate. The following week, July 26th, The 358 Modifieds will return to action joined by the Sportsman and Street Stocks. It will be Bike night, as anyone coming to the track on a motorcycle will receive half price general admission. It will also be Powder Puff race night, with the ladies taking the wheel for their own races at the end of the evening. Gates will open at 4:00p.m. with the first race starting at 6:00 pm.
