JEFF STRUNK, BRAD ARNOLD AND ANDY RESSLER WIN FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW SATURDAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. September 1, 2019 . . . Jeff Strunk, ten-time Grandview Speedway Modified point champion, came through the pack from his 11th starting berth in the TP Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified 30-lap feature on Saturday night and was able to catch up to first and second place runners Ron Kline and John Willman, somewhat hindered by lapped traffic, by the 22nd lap to make it a three-way battle for the lead.

Strunk finally cleared Willman with three laps to go. Seeing the white flag in starter Ray Kemp’s hand, Strunk passed Kline and went on to chalk up his fourth win of the season. Strunk was pleased with the track preparation and commented the victory was for No. 126 car owner Glenn Hyneman, who was not in attendance since he was not feeling well.

Brad Arnold overtook rookie leader Scott Kohler on the 15th lap of the 25-lap TP Truck Equipment NASCAR Sportsman feature and went on to become the 13th different winner in the division when he claimed his first win of the season over runner-up Jack Butler in the caution-filled event.

Former late model driver Andy Ressler, now competing in the X-cel 600 Modified class, “finally found a division he could win in at the track.” He passed leader Matt Warner with two laps to go in the 20-lap feature and went on to score the win.

The popular Blast from the Past Vintage racers are part of another tripleheader show on Saturday, September 7 along with the T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds and T.P.Trucks NASCAR Sportsman racers at Grandview Speedway. Racing gets the green at 7:30 p.m. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m.

Providing the feature winners met the necessary requirements, they received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers and a certificate from VP Fuels for product awards. The Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award recipients were Kline and Kohler. Wyatt Harrar, a rookie who just recently started in the division and placed 12th, received an extra $100 for being the highest finishing crate engine driver.

As usual it was Willman taking the early lead at the start of the Modified feature with pressure from Kline, Jesse Leiby, Mike Lisowski and Briggs Danner.

Kevin Hirthler spun in the second turn to bring out the yellow with four laps completed. A two-car second turn incident voided the restart. On the next attempt Kline charged past Willman to become the new pacesetter.

While Kline showed the way Willman and Ray Swinehart engaged in a side-by-side dual for second occasionally swapping paint.

By the ½-way marker the front runners now comprised of Kline, Willman, Strunk, Swinehart and Lisowski encountered lap traffic.

At the conclusion of the 22nd lap Kline, Willman and Strunk were all vying for the lead with neither one giving in.

Strunk overtook second on the 27th lap and set his sights on Kline, who was in search of his first career win in the division gathering many wins and even a championship in the Late Model division before making the switch to the Modified ranks.

Kline’s hopes of victory were erased by Strunk with one lap remaining. After several tries Strunk finally succeeded to pass him to claim his 73rd Saturday night career win. Posting his best finish was Kline trailed by Willman. Swinehart and Lisowski, fourth and fifth place finishers finally had a changed of luck to have their season best run.

Brett Gilmore, Brett Kressley, Jesse Leiby and Duane Howard won the four qualifying heats. The consies were won by Danny Erb and Kory Fleming.

Kohler took the early lead in the Sportsman feature with challenges coming from Steve Young, Kenny Bock, Nathan Mohr and Jimmy Leiby.

The red was thrown on the fifth lap after Mark Kemmerer was got into the first turn infield track tire which in turn caused him to make contact with the tire sending it onto the track and then he flipped up and over it. He was uninjured. Management deemed Andrew Kreis responsible for the incident and sent him pit side out of competition for the remainder of the race. Kohler resumed the lead on the restart with Beck, Arnold, Jesse Landis and Mike Mammana in pursuit.

Arnold moved into second to challenge Kohler on the seventh lap restart needed when Mohr was spun along the backstretch.

Within a few laps Kohler and Arnold were in a door handle to door handle battle for first and no matter how many bids Arnold made to get by him, they were unsuccessful.

The final caution period, in which there were several, was on the 15th lap when Lex Shive stopped in the fourth turn. At the same time Keith Brightbill, the current point leader went pit side with a flat tire while running fifth and never returned to competition. When action resumed Arnold charged into the lead.

In a few laps Arnold had a comfortable lead built up and was now being chased by Butler, Kohler, Landis and Ryan Beltz.

Arnold never looked back and went on to tally up his fifth career win followed by Butler, Kohler, Landis and Beltz.

Jimmy Leiby, Mammana and Bock were the heat winners.

In the X-cel 600 Modified feature Matt Warner was the early leader at the drop of the green with Ressler righty on his bumper along with Hunter Deihl, Brianna James and Jeff Sechrist.

Warner maintained the top spot until Ressler passed him with two laps remaining when lapped traffic slowed the front runners pace.

Ressler led the way for the final laps to claim the win. Finishing second was Warner followed by Korey Inglin, Jeromy Guistwite and Jon Josko.

Heat winners were Warner, Diehl and Sam Sciccihitano.

The final NASCAR point races of the season are set for Saturday, September 14 as WNPV-AM Radio Champion’s Night is presented. The T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds and T.P.Trucks Equipment Sportsman will battle it out for the lucrative championships and top point finishing positions.

LAUBACH FIRST TIME 2019 WINNER IN NASCAR 358 MODIFIED FEATURE AT GRANDVIEW, ROOKIE PARKER GULDIN EARNS SECOND SPORTSMAN FEATURE WHILE BRETT PETERS AND WES CASSEL WIN VINTAGE FEATURES SATURDAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. AUGUST 25, 2019 . . . Rick “Scooby” Laubach became a weekly competitor in the 2019 TP Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified season on a regular Saturday night basis at Grandview Speedway after only running the beginning of the season events other times. He was actually the point leader in the early stages of the year until hampered by motor and other mechanical issues as he struggled some weeks to even qualify and would actually run another competitors car just to be able to make the feature.

This Saturday “The Quaker Shaker” had a better engine ready for action and it paid off.

Following a torrid battle with John Willman, Laubach piloted the Gary Hermann-owned Blinderman sponsored 358 Modified into the lead on the 24th lap of the 30-lap Modified feature, coming from 12th starting spot, and went on to chalk up his first career Saturday night feature victory.

Rookie Parker Guldin made a clean sweep of the TP Truck Equipment Sportsman activities. First he won his qualifying event and topped the night off with his second 25-lap feature victory. Once again he picked up an extra $100 for being the highest finishing crate engine powered Sportsman.

In the 20-lap Blast From The Past feature, Brett Peters won the Modified portion while Wes Cassel was the winner in the Vintage class.

Providing the feature winners met the necessary requirements, they received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers and a certificate from VP Fuels for product awards. The Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award recipients were Willman and Guldin

Friday night, August 30th, 7 p.m. action features Enduro and Vintage racing. The Enduro racers will offer a Big Car and Small car race, Junkyard race plus Xcel 600 Modifieds.

Another tripleheader show of action packed stock car racing is set for next Saturday, August 31, with a 7:30 p.m. starting time. Included in the excitement will be the T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds, T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman and a first time visit of the XCEL 600 Modifieds. Adults pay $15 while youngsters under 12 are admitted free.

John Willman led the Modified feature for one lap before Richie Hitzler, a rookie, merged into first.

Jockeying for positions behind Hitzler were Willman, Ray Swinehart, Dylan Swinehart and Frank Cozze.

A homestretch tangle on the 11th lap between Justin Grim and Glenn Strunk regrouped the field as the yellow came out. The restart was void following a chain reaction tangle in the fourth turn. Hitzler continued to show the way when action resumed, but now second through fifth was comprised of Willman, Swinehart, Laubach and Cozze.

Willman was back in the top spot by the 14th lap and three laps later Laubach was in pursuit.

A three-way battle for third between Swinehart, Duane Howard and Cozze ensued ahead of Willman and Laubach.

In no time Laubach, in the Teo chassis mount, reeled in Willman and passed him for the lead on the 24th circuit.

Ryan Grim and Briggs Danner set up a one-lap shoot out to the checkered when they tangled in the second turn. Laubach wasted no time pulling away when the race went green again as he was determined to be in the winner’s circle at the conclusion. That’s exactly where he was earning a well-deserved triumph trailed by Willman, for the second week in a row; Howard, current point leader and last week’s feature winner came from 14th starting spot to gain fourth followed by Craig Von Dohren.

Heats were won by Willman, Howard, R. Swinehart and Jordan Henn. Justin Grim and Danny Erb won the consies.

At the drop of the green in the Sportsman feature Guldin was the early pacesetter. Behind him were Kenny Bock, Jesse Landis, Mike Mammana and Brad Brightbill, who was on a mission and came through the pack on the outside from the 14th starting spot to round out the top five.

Mammana inherited second on the sixth lap when Landis dropped out of competition allowing him to challenge Guldin.

Steve Young brought out the first yellow when he slowed coming off the fourth turn. Guldin held his own on the restart, but it was Brightbill making his presence known pullup a bit. Miller continued to show the way on the restart with pressure now coming from Chris Esposito, Bock, and Brightbill putting the pressure on.

The yellow was thrown again after a fourth turn multi-car tangle with 19 laps completed. The restart was thwarted when several cars made contact in turn one. Before the restart, Brightbill, running a solid second, pitted with a left rear flat tire. He did rejoin the race, but could only get back up to ninth. On the restart Guldin kept Mammana, Brad Arnold, Brian Hirthler and Ryan Beltz in tow.

The front running order never changed in the final laps as Guldin was triumphant again chased across by Mammana, Arnold and Beltz.

Young, Guldin and Mammana won the heats. The consi went to Mark Kemmerer.

Jeff Paulson led the Blast From the Past feature for seven laps before Andy Cassel moved in front on the eighth lap restart brought out when runner-up at the time Todd Lapp spun in the third turn.

In a few laps the front runners encountered lapped traffic and Brett Peters was closing in on Cassel very quickly. Peters took advantage of the situation to take over the lead on the 19th lap.

Peters never looked back and went on to take the win chased across the line by A. Cassel, Paulson, W. Cassel and Mike Garris Sr.

Lap sponsorships and heat race sponsorships for the September 21st Freedom 76 are available $20 for laps and $200 for a heat race. Check in with Tina Rogers or Tommy Kramer at the track. Telephone Ernie Saxton at 267.934.7286 for complete information.

LEVAN MACHINE AND TRUCK EQUIPMENT NIGHT BEATS ALL ODDS. . . . . .

AARON REUTZEL ROMPS IN THE RAIN FOR HODNETT CUP TRIUMPH, MIKE GULAR POCKETS $3,000 FOR MODIFIED CHECKERED FLAG AT GRANDVIEW

BECHTELSVILLES, PA (August 22, 2019) – It was a wet and wild night of racing at Grandview Speedway on Thursday night, as Levan Machine and Truck Equipment presented the Inaugural Hodnett Cup as part of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series. Aaron Reutzel was the winner of the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions feature earning $5,000 as Mike Gular won the NASCAR 358 Modified main event.

An unexpected rainstorm popped up just after All Star Sprint Car time trials, delaying the action for nearly 2 hours. Track crews worked vigorously, and with the help of drivers and teams, heat race events rolled out just before 10 PM. With a good crowd on hand everyone was determined to make every effort to get the show in and they did.

“We just want to race,” Reutzel said graciously thanking everyone during victory lane ceremonies. “I can’t thank the fans and the track team enough. We were lucky – and some days I’d rather be lucky than good.”

Luck was definitely on Reutzel’s side, starting the 35-lap event from the front row alongside Nashville, TN’s Paul McMahan. McMahan attempted to slide in front of Reutzel on the initial green flag start – but couldn’t complete the pass.

“I’m just glad I was able to get out in front of Paul,” Reutzel explained. “If he was able to get me at the beginning this would’ve turned out differently.”

Reutzel powered away to full straight-a-way lead, while Danny Dietrich, Ryan Smith, and Ryan Taylor battled for the third position.

With drivers settling in on an ultra-fast race track, lapped cars proved to a real challenge for Reutzel, a Clute, TX-native – closing the gap between him and McMahan, as laps clicked away.

“The lapped cars weren’t really cooperating with me today,” Reutzel offered in victory lane. “The track was fast and that was challenging.”

While McMahan, aboard the No. 13 machine, was able to lessen the leader’s advantage, he would pressure Reutzel, but couldn’t get close enough to really challenge.

The yellow flag flew for the final time on lap 26 – a huge benefit to Reutzel – who charged on to claim his second consecutive NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill All Star Sprint Car victory. Reutzel earned $5,000 for his efforts and added his name to the Hodnett Cup.

McMahan settled for the second position, Danny Dietrich finished in third, Ryan Smith finished in fourth, and Ryan Taylor rounded out the top five.

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Sprint Car Heats were swept by Pennsylvania drivers Ryan Taylor, Brock Zearfoss and Danny Dietrich. Aaron Reutzel set the quick time with 23 cars signing in for action.

Mike Gular of Harleysville, PA picked up the $3,000 win in the NASCAR 358 portion of the evening’s event.

Dylan Swinhart and Alex Yankowski made up the front row of the 30 lap feature event – but it was Gular who took the lead heading down the backstretch of the one-third-mile dirt track, with Duane Howard moving into the second position just one circuit later.

Gular and Howard dueled for the top spot for the first half of the event, before a lap 16 yellow flag slowed the action and reset the field.

A three-car battle for the win between Gular, Howard, and Jeff Strunk brought the event down to the wire.

Door-to-Door drag racing to the checkered flag, Gular picked up the win with Howard in second, Jeff Strunk in third, Craig VonDohren in fourth and Jared Umbenhauer in the fifth position.

Modified Heat races were won by Doug Manmiller, Jeff Strunk, and Dylan Swinehart. 29 NASCAR 358 Modifieds were signed in to compete.

The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series returns on Saturday, October 19 with the Modifieds in a Big Block and Small Block Showdown, Sportsman, and MASS 305 Sprint Cars.

HOWARD TAKES FIFTH NASCAR MODIFIED WIN AND INCREASES CHAMPIONSHIP CHASE POINT LEAD, BRIGHTBILL GETS FOURTH WIN AND CONTINUES TO LEAD SPORTSMAN POINT CHASE AT GRANDVIEW

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. August 18, 2019 . . . Five time NASCAR track champion Duane Howard, coming off a win in the rich Forrest Rogers Memorial the previous Saturday night at Grandview Speedway claimed back-to-back victories when he picked up his fifth victory of the season in the 30-lap TP Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified feature victory on Saturday night at Grandview.

The current point leader worked for this one battling with John Willman from the 15th lap through to the finish. Normally Howard tends to pick the inside groove to make a pass, but the second week in a row he took the outside path and was able to overtake Willman with five laps to go to park the Norm Hansell-owned No. 357 in the winner’s circle.

Brad Brightbill decided that after three straight second place finishes in the TP Truck Equipment NASCAR 25-lap Sportsman features it was time to change that status and move it up a notch. That’s exactly what he did when he posted his fourth feature win with runner-up Kenny Bock closing in on him, but didn’t have enough laps to get the job done.

Providing the feature winners met the necessary requirements, they received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers and a certificate from VP Fuels for product awards. The Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award recipients were Willman and Brightbill. Parker Guldin, who finished 14th in the Sportsman feature received an extra $100 from the track for being the first crate engine running.

On Thursday, August 22nd a Thunder on the Hill Series doubleheader, a Bob Miller/Rogers Family promotion, will be presented featuring Tony Stewart’s Ollie’s Bargain Stores All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprints and 358 Modifieds. Racing will kick off at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday night action returns on August 24th with a tripleheader show of T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds, T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman and Blast from the Past Vintage Racers. Action gets the green flag at 7:30 p.m. Adult admission is $15 and youngsters under 12 are admitted free.

Modified action saw polesitter John Willman, who has had more than his share of engine issues, grab the early lead with Dylan Swinehart, Richie Hitzler, Ryan Lilick and Eric Biehn in pursuit.

The caution flew with two laps completed after Mike Lisowski, another one having more than his share of misfortunes, was plagued once again and slowed in the fourth turn out of competition. After two false starts, Willman was still first, but now D. Swinehart, Joe Funk III, Hitzler and Howard completed the top five.

A three-way battle for second soon developed between D. Swinehart, Funk III and Howard with neither one ready to give up a position.

The red was thrown on the 13th lap when Hitzler hit the first turn wall with heavy impact and Nick DeSantis, left with nowhere to go, clipped the backend of the car. Thankfully no one was injured. Willman was still the leader, but now Howard was in the runner-up spot putting his bids in for first followed by D. Swinehart, Brett Kressley, who started deep in the 28-car starting grid in 24th and Funk III.

Howard made several bids for the lead underneath Willman, but none of them were successful.

With five laps remaining Howard switched to the high line to see if that would work. This attempt was a wise choice and he was now in first.

Howard never looked back once he became the new pacesetter and went on to chalk up another one in the win column. Chasing him across the line for his best finish of the season was Willman followed by Kressley, D. Swinehart and Kevin Hirthler.

A rarity in the Modified ranks was that ten time champion Craig Von Dohren, locked in a close point battle with Duane Howard, wasn’t an entry in the feature. Problems with his primary car in the heat forced him to switch to the back-up car for the consi. He also had issues with that and was forced to be a spectator the rest of the night.

Heats were won by Craig Whitmoyer, Hitzler, Willman and Hirthler. Briggs Danner and Kory Fleming won the consies.

Tom Miller, already a feature winner this year, took the early lead in the Sportsman feature with Parker Guldin, Bock and Sean Weiss in pursuit.

Jimmy Leiby hit the homestretch wall with heavy force which caused the red to be thrown. He was slightly shaken up a bit. Miller continued to show the way on the restart with pressure now coming from Chris Esposito, Bock, Brightbill and Guldin.

Esposito became the new leader on the tenth lap restart needed four a four-car tangle in turn four.

The lead changed hands for the third and final time when Brightbill charged ahead in the Leindecker powered mount on the 12th lap.

Bock overtook second on the 18th lap and set sail after Brightbill who had a slight edge built up over the field.

In the closing stages Bock was reeling in Brightbill, but time fell short and Brightbill was in the winner’s circle. Following Brightbill and Bock across were Esposito, Brian Hirthler and Ryan Beltz.

Kyle Smith, Bock and Guldin were the heat winners.

With Guldin finishing 14th in the Sportsman feature he earned a Crate Sportsman bonus.
